i got this from eonline.com:
Meanwhile, show mastermind Burnett said he's already looking forward to a new edition of Rock Star with a different band. "We're in a lot of discussions with people," he told E! Online. "I think that you're very, very likely to see Rock Star: Season Two."
you can read the whole article here (http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,17414,00.html?fdnews)
i'm really curious about which band it will be...
I've heard the name Van Halen bantered about.

A prediction:
Marty and Mig will both go on to become big stars in their own right. INXS; fronted by JD, will release an album this year and go on tour in support of the album. The venues booked for the tour dates will have trouble selling the tickets and revenues from the show won't even be enough to cover JD's salary. The band will become ever more desperate; releasing two or more albums a year until their record company gives up on them completely and allows them no more studio time; ever. JD will leave the band in a rash of bad publicity. After the smoke clears; he will approach Marty and Mig about forming their own "Rock Star" band. By that time; Mig and Marty will be so famous they will have no time for JD's foolishness; but may feel sorry enough for him to throw him a bone and allow him to record 'guest star' vocals on their own albums. :D

Does that sound mean? I'm not trying to be, it's just how I feel. The band is free to do what they want.
I don't think that sounds mean at all. ITA with everything you said, including the part about Kirk.
I think it was a smart move for them to ask Marty to open for them on their tour, record sales will show whether people are attending to see Marty or JD/INXS.
I'm hoping that Marty and his band the Lovehammers do some shows in Chicago (or here!) before heading out on tour with INXS.

I think it turned out the way it was supposed to turn out! I honestly think INXS is trying to attract a different group of fans by picking JD. It's not that I don't agree that he should have been picked... but I just think that had to be lying in the back of their minds. I think JD had the best voice out of anyone in the final three. My husband can't stand JD because "he's cocky" and then I realized why... He's from Canada. (No offense to anyone from Canada on here... it's just that my experience with every guy from Canada was that they were cocky.)

Umm.. okay?? I've dealt with quite a few cocky American guys, but I don't think I'd rush to judge them cocky as a whole...

I'm glad Marty didn't win. As bad as it may sound, he's too fresh and talented for INXS. Ok, not singling anyone out, because this seems to be a common opinion here. But can someone please tell me why they think Marty is good? He sings in a monotone, he hits maybe 1 out of every 4 notes he tries for, and he changes his vocal style with each song in imitation of the original singer. I thought the song he wrote was pretty good, but he should really get someone else to sing it. His rendition at "Creep" was embarrassingly amaturish and off key, barely listenable, and his INXS song for the finale he sang one note for most of the verses. Am I the only one?!
I've heard the name Van Halen bantered about.
LOL, that's exactly who came to my mind!!
the idea of seeing a copy-cat covering his songs just doesn't have appeal to me.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but when the band first reformed after Michael Hutchence's death, didn't they find someone who looked and sounded just like him? I thought they tried it out but it gave fans the creeps and they stopped after a year or two and let the singer go. Anyone know?

I have not heard that. But if that was the case, that makes their choice just plain dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
FWIW, I agree with Scooter's comments about Marty.

I personally think Marty made leaps and bounds in his progression as a singer over the course of the show. You need only to look at his first performance and then review his rendition of "Wish You Were Here" to see that. I think he has a unique talent that will be welcomed by many fans and I also believe that he will end up being quite a bit more famous than anyone else who performed on Rock Star. BTW...I loved Marty's original song "Trees", which you can now buy as single online. And, his version of Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was pretty spectacular.
I do think that Marty will have people that will love him and hate him; as evidenced by this thread, KWIM?

I do agree that Mary has improved, and that is an important point. I hadn't realized how much until the finale when they showed previous clips of the "scary conductor" :p . He was really awful in the beginning. (as was JD with the crotch grabbing stuff. ) So, yes, I would say he gets the award for "most improved." He's not my style, but he did come a long way.

i just read this on rollingstone.com:
"INXS...have been without a permanent singer since charismatic frontman Michael Hutchence was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. The band had since tried a series of vocalists, including a tour with British R&B singer Terence Trent D'Arby."

that's the dude that sang "sign your name" and "wishing well," right? i'm not sure about the other singers, but he's pretty different from hutchence. maybe going too different didn't work out for them?
eta: i just read that they stuck with this one guy for a little while, jon stevens (http://www.jonstevens.com.au/), but he quit before releasing their first album, citing "creative differences." i don't know anything about him, but maybe this is the look/sound-alike you're thinking about?

Keep in mind, I did not mean to offend anyone. It was just a inside joke between my husband and myself. Also keep in mind that he used to play hockey and I used to work for a hockey team...

I agree with the above. I really did not like Marty at first - I wanted him out. He screamed to much and his demented conductor scared me. Plus, he was off on nearly every song he sang. But he honestly, won me over by improving so much. I loved what he brought to "Mr. Brightside" and "Hit Me, Baby..." and I really like the quirkyness of his original song, "Trees."
I do think he still struggles with the right note and key, but I think that will come with practice and experience. He's still rough, but I see potential.
BTW - JD does have talent, especially in arranging; but he still sounds like a lounge singer to me.
RE: Terrance Trent D'Arby: He was just a guest vocalist for a couple of concerts. He didn't become a member of the band. I thought he would have been a good choice, though.
Jimmy Barnes sang with INXS for a while (he had a duet with Michael called "Good Times" from the Lost Boys Soundtrack), and a few other Aussie artists.

icedwhite, yes I think that's who I was thinking of! Thanks for putting a name to him. :)
re:Marty
I can sort of see how some people might think he was entertaining to watch. My problem is it doesn't matter how much he improved, how talented he is as songwriting or performing. What matters is that he can't sing. He can't hit notes, he screams, he can't hold notes.
So I guess the question is, why would someone think he's good as a lead singer when he's missing the most important ingredient--the ability to sing?

OMG - INXS just released their tour dates: they've got two casinos booked, not counting Mandalay Bay Events Center. So three.
I know I said they'd be "coming soon to a casino near you" but I thought they'd hold out a bit longer.
Ick.

Yeah, they're scheduled to play here in February. Actually, not here in the city but in the county at the 'Family' (codeword) Arena, other upcoming "concerts" at that same venue... Sean Hannity with special guest Ollie North.
