I could really use prayers for my dad, Philip. He’s been in the hospital for one week now and they don’t know when they’ll be able to discharge him. He’s 30 lbs underweight for his body because he’s been barfing up EVERYTHING for 3 months. He’s on dialysis as only 2% of his kidneys were working. He’s had 3 surgeries to correct the kidney problems. One kidney is working again the other, well, not yet.

Also, my dad’s toxicity level should be around 25. However, it was 209. His hemoglobin count is at a 5.4 and should be around 16-18. They’ve given him a lot of blood this week but somewhere internally he’s bleeding and they’re not sure where yet.

They are also testing some areas in my dad for cancer.

My dad was stubborn for a LONG, LONG time and refused to acknowledge anything was wrong. Finally, my mom took him to the ER last week after he was passing out.

Please pray for my dad. Thank you.

Oh sweetheart. I went through a health scare with my dad earlier this year too. It's awful and I know how you are feeling. Please know I am praying. And I believe in prayer. I'm not just saying it.

I'm so sorry. I went through something similar with my father about 15 years ago, and I know how hard it can be. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you all for your prayers. I cannot express to you how much it means to me, and my family.

My dad is going on day 11 in the hospital today and they’ve made some progress but still don’t know everything.

He was negative for liver and bone cancer. They are doing a lung biopsy today and did a biopsy on his prostrate on Friday. We’re still waiting those results but believing for a good report.

His left kidney is still being stubborn and not working. However, they will try a fifth surgery sometime this week. He’s still on dialysis but hopefully for not much longer.

Since my dad has been in the hospital, and I’m sorry if this is TMI, his urine bag had been a dark red color due to all the blood in his kidneys. However, last night it was almost back to a normal color. I cannot tell you how thankful to God we all are.

Also, my dad had started to joke around w/us again, which is a great sign. For the past couple of months, he could barely say two sentences to us. His color is also coming back. He was SO jaundice for SO long. Now he’s doing better and better.

He’s still throwing up a few times a day but hopefully they’ll be able to find out why and get it to stop.

Thank you again for all your prayers. I believe my dad is going to make a total and full recovery!

My mother went through something similar about 4 years ago. Caused by massive kidney infection. They ended up having to remove a kidney and she did lose total use of them, and is therefore on dialysis. But she's here and living very well. We didn't think she would make it - but dialysis was a godsend. Without it she wouldn't be here with us. PS - the vomiting in her case was because of all the toxins not being cleaned out by the kidneys.

You and your family will be in my prayers - hoping for the best.

Low hemoglobins are common in dialysis patients.

Your dad is like all men: they all suffer from the big boys don't cry syndrome; it's a bitch to get men to go to a doctor, period.

That his color's picked up is a good sign. I am most certain they'll wait for his hemoglobin to be a lot higher before they take him into surgery.

Health and happiness to you all. God bless.

I just came across this thread and I wanted to say I'm sorry your dad was going through this. How is he now? Any progress?

My dad is doing better in a lot of ways. He was in the hospital for about 3 weeks, came home for a week and then was back in for 9 days. Now that he's home and starting to get into a routine, he's gained two pounds, but still needs to give over 25 lbs more to be at the lowest weight of his “ideal” weight.

He was tested for blood cancer, liver cancer, prostrate cancer, bone cancer, and lung cancer (he has ALWAYS been a NONsmoker). All but the lung came back negative, THANK GOD! The lung test showed “something” that the doctor believes is cancer. The doctor has been wrong before, and we're believing that the biopsy he'll have in the next week or so will also be negative. Please keep praying for a good report.

He's still on dialysis three times a weak as his kidneys are still not working yet. That is the BIGGEST thing holding him back now.

We're all believing that my dad's kidneys will start working again. The doctor wants to start talking transplant but my dad's not ready to do that yet.

My older sister got married this past weekend. I was amazingly beautiful to see my dad walk her down the aisle, when just two months ago he couldn't walk and was passing out and doctors couldn't understand why he wasn't dead.

I thank God for all he's done and will do and for all of you wonderful ladies and your support and prayers! Please continue to pray for my dad's lungs and kidneys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God your dad is doing better! I know how scary this is. My father, one of the healthiest people I've ever seen & definitely a NON-smoker, was diagnosed with lymphoma 3.5 years ago. They removed a large part of one lung in surgery, and after several rounds of chemo, he's solidly in remission & actually jogging again :). So even if the "something" on the lung is actually something, feel confident that your dad is now strong enough to fight it.

Glad to hear your Dad is doing better. I do hope they figure out what's wrong with him soon. I bet it was a very emotional time at your sisters wedding. So glad he was well enough to do that! :)
