batgirl I'm still worried that other celebrity couples are going to steal one of "my" names. Not like I should worry, with the current trends in names, I think I'm safe!!
Cosmic Congrats on the boy!!
Baby Names - I have a mental list, and I think DH does. We haven't really talked names all that much, I think we're waiting until we find out the sex so we can narrow down the pool. However, DH did point me to the Baby Name Wizard Name Voyager (http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/) Site, which is completely addictive to play around with!!
~~~
I'm feeling really, really great these days, even feeling a lot of movement! It definitely progressed from rolling movements to flutters, and I think I can tell when the baby's asleep and when he/she is awake and moving around (mostly morning and late evening). I even got woken up by a poke the other night!
I also rescheduled my u/s for April 28th, with my next OB appointment being May 1st.
{b}- it could a number of things like low blood pressure, high/low blood sugar. Make sure you eat protein for breakfast, with complex carbs. If it still happens I would talk to your doctor.
Cosmic- Congrats on your BOY!
2Jacks&Me-I love the name Eliza! But also like Reagan.
Suiej- We have the same appointment schedule and I think live in the same area! LOL. I live in good olde G-burg :)
My Level I ultrasound is tomorrow morning! I am really excited about the possiblity of finding out Fasolaki's sex. I'm hoping to add to the Pink Team. ;)
No flutters/movement yet, I don't think. Unless I brushed it off as gas. :o
Man, it scares me how few of you have noted kicking and punching. I felt this baby from the outside at 18 weeks, and had felt the first kicks at 14 weeks-- never have there been any movements I would describe as "butterflies." No. More like "wooden mallets." Or maybe, "boulders in a landslide."
What if my baby isn't a baby at all, but is just a ball of 10 legs, all rotating outwards and kicking at every opportunity???
Or what if it is a baby and it already has ADHD?
The daddy is a person in perpetual motion (has to fidget with something even while sitting still) so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.
Baby adds to this post: "hi-ya!" That was one I looked down in time to see. :rolleyes: I am so in for it.
Craft your story made me laugh and wince at the same time! I know what you mean, though, sometimes you honestly can't tell. I would have assumed the same thing if she had been listening intently to the baby conversation holding her belly!
We've all had foot in mouth moments. Mine was when I was teaching biology while in grad school. All the students came in on the first day and they were ALL women! Then one guy walks in and sits down. Bigmouth me says "I hope you don't feel uncomfortable being the only guy..." She looks at me and says "what?" I stammered, but it was too late. Now I never assume a thin, tall person with no boobs, a golf shirt, short hair and no makeup is necessarily a man!
suiej Boy, I have spent way too much time on that baby name wizard website, too. But its so cool!
Di Good luck today! Sending pink vibes your way!
Tom Cruise named his daughter Sari. His other two kids (with Nicole Kidman) have pretty standard names (connor and isabella) which is why I was so worried. Oh, and I normally don't care much about the happenings of Tom Cruise or any other celeb, but I read the news article this morning with the birth announcement... I don't know why I was so worried about their name! Just a weirdo I guess :D
ETA: Aletheia you crack me up! Now I am picturing a rolling ball of legs!
I'm sure you have nothing to worry about! But thanks for the imagery!
Whenever I think of the name "Grier" I think of that super scary fitness instructor on infomercials with the long stringy blonde hair. The one that smiles and nothing moves! Just her teeth miraculously appear... ohh man, she creeps me out!
Jeez, its so nice outside. I can do nothing here at work except procrastinate and anxiously await 4pm... and check cc, of course! Eww, but first have to get rid of the image of Grier smiling at me....
To those of you not yet feeling movement, don't worry. I was WELL into my 2nd trimester before I felt anything. (maybe 25-26 weeks?) Besides, the 2nd trimester is pretty uneventful, so this gives you something big to look forward to!!
I'm having a ton of braxton hicks all the time now. It is such a strange feeling, a really strong tightening. I'm also having occasional pinching type pains in the cervix area.
b I've been feeling light-headed recently too. I actually left church on Easter because I was afraid I was going to faint. I made DH come with to catch me just in case. :o
I felt horrible yesterday so I slept from 5:00 pm to 6:00 this morning. I did wake up for a few minutes to say hi to DH and get ready for bed, but man, was I exhausted! Unfortunately that means I didn't get any school work done, but oh well, there is always tomorrow.
Names DH and I haven't even thought about this, not until we find out if we will get to see if it's a boy or girl on May 5. Then the field will be a bit more narrow.
Kicks I spend some time each night with my hand on my belly and sitting quietly, but nothing yet. I'm trying to be patient.
Just an FYI if anyone is still looking for maternity clothes - I was at Target last night and they had a ton of maternity stuff marked way down. This is probably location specific, but I got 4 pairs of pants, a top, and a swimsuit for $80! And let me tell you, the pants are sooo comfy! :D
CosmicCongrats! When we found out DS was a boy, we both were so sure that boy was all there could be. Actually in the delivery room, someone said, " It could still be a girl." We both said seriously, " Better not be!" Can you imagine if the poor thing were?
Mommy2 Love Owen! But sadly enough I have a thing about it. I had a pyscho stalker boyfriend who I got a cat for and it was named Owen. I hate when things have bad connotations! It is so unfair. So for anyone else, great choice, for me- constant reminder, blah!
Batgirl I do like Ellie- which is funny since I had a college roommate whose sister was named that and I hated it then. Thank God I grew up ( a little anyhow). Have to say- Tom cruise can ruin anything these days! What a disaster should someone name their child the same as his!
Baby wish Naming is so hard! I never thought it would be so tolling. I lay awake at night! How pathetic! But it molds a person! Good for you to be able to move on!
CraftYou funny girl! I have had awful things happen too! I have never been THIN, but around 10-12 and I was working one day and had just run up the stairs to work on an elderly patient and she was like on and on about how glowing I was and with child blah blah. i was just like, " Well, no- I ran up stairs and am chubby..." So that taught me!
But I did tell a co-worker who was seeing a patient of mine that there was a new baby in their family and later she totally wanted to kill me since She asked about it and the woman lost the baby at 8 mos pg! EW! Incidentally, she is pg the 4th time with twin girls, but I was very nervous to ask about it but had to since she was needing to undergo dental tx and had to have anesthetic!
I myself just feel fat. I feel like I have to tell people that i am pg- not that I do that. But I wore these dorky gardening shoes out today and some lady was like "Cute Shoes!" I think she didn't mean it but they are hot pink and she saw me catch her staring. I felt I had to go into this whole thing about my feet swelling last pg and having to wear men's slippers and I was trying to avoud it at all costs this time... Did I go to far? She probably wanted to run!
HA! I am ADDICTED to starburst and Nerds Ropes! Me and my 12 year old nephew are having more and more in common these days. I have to eat a Nerds rope daily. AnastasiaK: Congratulations and welcome to the group. Be sure to post new info in red so that your stats can be easily seen and added .
Cosmic: Congrats on your baby boy!
Craft: Thanks for sharing that story. I am constantly smiling at ladies with round bellies in passing and assuming that they are expecting. Instead of me initiating a conversation I will now wait till someone says something to me.
Movement: Baby is moving everyday now and I've even noticed has a schedule. Very active after 10p for about 10-15min. I havent felt anything external yet. Ive also experienced a few BH contractions.
Maternity clothes: I frequent the CC pregnancy closet thread and took the advice of one of the ladies over there. I found some quality/inexpensive shirts and bottoms at Ross. I also bought some cute stuff from Motherhood over the weekend.
Hoo-hah: is that a medical term I am simply new to in this world of obstericalness? ;) I've got to agree, Althiea that's got to be insaney terrifying. What a whirlwind, both there and on the house.
Mom2: Not a fun thing to find. I hope it is random and harmless.
Boy we've gone heavy on boys! Need some girls to balance us out! I took advantage of Happy Half Priced Candy Day, but didn't really find anything I'm craving. I must be the most boring preggo ever. Even DH has complained I haven't had any cravings for him to run around about.
We've just been hanging out and enjoying the early spring weather and the quiet Spring Break days (over now, too bad). I read up more on disaster planning (thanks for your responses, ladies) and are trying to work out what we might need and why without going overboard.
The news hasn't help much, either. With all the rain in California and the anniversary stories about the San Franciso quake, I keep thinking we need to plan a trip out there before the Next Big One. I read way too many disaster stories for my own good, I think.
Babymovement: a bit. I too find myself sitting at my desk, hand on my mostly blubber belly, for no good reason.
Celeb baby names: "Suri" I read somewhere that it meant Red Rose and Princess. Anyone else reminded of the fairy tales of Rose Red, Snow White's sister?
http://www.familymanagement.com/literacy/grimms/grimms122.html
No idea what we're doing in the name department. But we've got months and months yet, right?
Trips before baby gets here: San Fran would be nice (as long as it doesn't slide into the ocean while we are there) but I just feel fine with staying close to home. We had one big trip planned this year but now I want to save up my time for leave.
Just stopping by really quick to wish ocgatita happy birthday!
Di - Congrats on your BOY!
Dang the Boys really are outnumbering the girls in here. I lurk in the August mommies thread sometimes and they have way more girls in there than boys.
For those of you having boys, have you picked out crib bedding yet? We are on the fence on this one. We like a two from landofnod.com and one at Target. Of course the Target one is cheaper, but we just can't decide. I think Boy bedding is harder than girl bedding for some reason.
Anyways, got to get back to work, the HORROR! Making me work on my b-day ;) LOL!
Take Care ladies.
Welcome to team BLUE Di. I know you had your heart set on a girl but you'll see, little boys have a way of stealing their mommy's hearts:D
I've been getting sick everyday. I can't believe this. I really thought I would be done all that by now. I'm used to it so it doesn't really phase me now. I am at my prepg weight right now. I was worried about that and spoke to my dr but she's not concerned.
A lot more boy then girls. Not sure if Dotsie remembers or not but the same thing happened in our group when we had our oldest. Then all of us who didn't know what sex we were having had girls, one after another. Kind of crazy.
ocgatita-happy birthday!
Dorothy- funny that you mention Kohls because I was there this morning looking for a pair of keds.
Afterwards I took my kids on a mini-hike & my 19 month old fell into some brush & had an immediate allergic reaction, head to toe hives. We ended up with an impromptu (as in emergency) trip to the pediatrican. He seems to be doing okay with a bath & some benedryl but we have no idea what caused it. The joys of motherhood:)
Suiej- I delivered my DD at Shady Grove and will most likely deliver at there again unless I have to be induced and have to deliver at Holy Cross. My doctors’ practice is a PITA having an office right near Shady but they prefer HC! I live very close to SG and I hope to deliver there again. How about yourself?
OCG- I did not pick out bedding yet and didnt for my DD. I just use a crib mattress. I figured I would save money on the big girl bedding instead. A lot of my friends had luck at Pottery Barn.
Mommy2AW-How scary. I heard the pollen count/allergies are at an all time high this season. Maybe that had something to do with it? I am glad Will is feeling better! I doubt they will do any testing unless it happens again. Hope it was just a fluke.
We had a busy day and luckily Ds went down about 7:30. I am getting ready to join him soon!
18 mos well baby this morning including vacinations. He only cried momentarily and then smiled at the nurse! WHEW! The ped said if his brace doesn't work we will have to be referred to Children's Hospital for Botox injections in his heel. ( he has increased tone in his right leg keeping him from being able to walk) We are increasing PT to 2x week and it takes over my life!
So then off to the place that made his brace ( it was made incorrectly) ARGH. and the guy was a little annoyed with me since DS was knocked out from the shots. So we couldn't have him stand etc. So now we have to go back another time. All of this making me want to cry since the first brace was $900 and it was started 6 weeks ago and the rate that kids grow we will barely get use out of it by the time they get it right! Plus he does better in plain shoes anyhow! ARGH again.
We hit the grocery store and since I felt bad for the little guy I let him eat two cookies and a fruit leather while there. We then took a drive out to my dad's lake house to see what was going on there. he is ripping out the bathroom, etc.
On th way home I stopped at Dairy Queen to get a burger. DS and I parked it at a picnic table and the darned burger was RAW! I was so annoyed that I wanted to cry!
So then my mom came over for dinner ( she is weight watchering) so I made a super healthy salad. Ds ate it! Asparagus and all!
She was here 20 minutes and left us to go to a Silpada party. i hate when people come over and run when you were hoping to visit.
So that was my crapola day- thanks for the ventilage!
I am 20 weeks today! Half through! Wow it is going fast.
I am perpetually thirsty and I swear our tap water is fishy! I want to drink it since bottled water has virtually no fluoride. So I bought some iced tea mix today with no sweetner and it seems ok.
DeliciousJones thanks for the pants recommendation. I am in desperate need of some clothes and I wanted to get a pair of capris since its (finally) getting warmer.
2Jacks whoooa, I got tired just reading your post! I hope today is a little bit better, or at least a bit more relaxing/stress free.
I can't believe that we are almost (or are) half way there already. Is anyone else getting scared?
Last night I actually felt the baby from the outside! I've finally decided that the gas bubbly feeling that I've been having is the baby (boy, I wasn't sure for the longest time). Anyway, I was reading in bed last night and felt a kick. I put my hand there for about a minute and felt something! Honestly, it kind of creeped me out! I felt like I was in the movie "Aliens" and that something was going to rupture thru my stomach, look and me and snarl "momma". (Shit, I need to lay off the sci fi! :) ) Anyhow, it was the weirdest feeling of my life...
Well, Monday is my u/s. I think I have decided to try to find out gender (DH really wants to). I'm thinking this babe can't be anything other than a boy with the way this thread is going! We'll see, we'll see....
Have a great weekend ladies!
ezl247 - My OB delivers at Sibley in DC. We only live 2 minutes from SG, so if there was an emergency they told us we could go there, but our kid will be born in DC! I had a friend who delivered there last fall and she was quite happy with it, so I'm hoping for a good experience as well. We will be taking chidbirth classes at SG, however, which brings up a point...
~~~
Will you take childbirth/childcare classes? If you are going to, when do you need to sign up? (Mostly directed at the first time mommas here!)
I think the ones around here fill up quickly, so we may register for them soon. Ah, what better way to spend those warm summer evenings...

classes We took childbirth classes and mostly it was geared towards moms going natural and how to get through it. There was a small portion about meds and the stages of labor. But honestly if you are doing any meds. You don't really recognize stages and they just tell you- ok let's push now.
But we will def take BF classes! i read all I could get my hands on and still feel that I needed more. I want to be better at it this time.

Actually, I asked the nurse practitioner about this at my last visit. She told to to start registering for lamazze (sp?) and I said, but I'm not going natural. She said... "you won't be able to receive your epidural until you are 4cm dialated. To get to that 4 cm, you will need lamazze." :eek:
So yes, I will be signing up. I should really be looking into this! Oh, she did tell me since I am not going natural to not consider the Bradley method (which is directed specifically towards women wanting natural childbirths).

I dont' know if you need lamaze or not to get 4cm. I know when my contractions started getting really bad I started lamaze type breathing on my own. I have no clue about lamaze. I think your body just knows what to do.

Ditto this. My contractions didn't really get to the point of horribly painful until around 4 cm dilated. If you just let yourself fall into a natural deep rythmic breathing, you will be fine. But, I have to say that breathing was the only thing that kept me sane and focused.
I just came from the Chiropractor, and we had a good laugh at my belly. While I was lying on my back, the baby kept moving, and at one point my belly was so lop-sided it looked like I had a growth on my side! She thought it was hilarious. She's a very close friend of mine, so I don't mind her laughing at my belly!

I need to vent a little with people who will understand what I'm talking about.
DH and I were discussing baby names last night and for some reason it is way more important to me to get "just the right name" than it is to him. He keeps trying to tell me that I'm too worried about it, that it's not a big deal, but I guess I'm just so freaked because with our other two, names came instantly. I am hoping that I can have a couple of names that we like and when the baby is born, we can see which name suits him. My DH keeps saying that "it's no big deal, it's just a name." But for me, it's so much more. To me, it's a huge part of our child's identity and as someone that HATES their name, it is pretty important to give my child a name that they won't be teased about, or sounds funny, is uncommon(but known), not too "out there," ect. I honestly don't know why I'm stressing so much about the name this time. I think it may have something to do with knowing this is my last baby, so I won't get to do this again, and I think A LOT of it has to do with the fact that I did not have any say whatsoever in naming my son. It was predetermined that he was going to be named after his father and there was nothing I could do about it (and I CANNOT STAND the name we gave my son! :o :eek: )

I didn't use lamaze really until 7cm, but for me, that seems to be my "breaking point." I usually deliver within an hour of hitting 7cm because I go from 7cm to crowning. Apparently my children don't know that there are numbers we like to call 8, 9, 10. LOL :p
Well it is official 'the Fatzy' is ...
Very healthy!
We of course got up late this morning, so it was a scrable to get out of the house in time. We didn't get out of there till 10 mins after we had planned so naturally I was a stressed mess the whole way to the hospital. I made S drop me off outside so I could run in and register. I waited maybe 5 mins before I was called in to get dressed. Let me just tell you there is nothing sexy about wearing one of those gowns with knee-high dress socks and heels I felt like such a fool but figured it was better than the old guy with his bum hanging out.
The u/s tech didn't say much as she took the measurements. She had me turn onto my side a few times as the baby was moving around like crazy and she couldn't get shot of its face. By the time the first hour passed I was praying it was over. My abdomen was getting quite sore. She brought S in and showed him the face, body, legs, feet and hands. Then the Dr came in to explain to me what we had been looking at. I really couldn't tell if I had been looking at the tush or the head. To me it looked like there was a dinosauor in there.
Needless to say we did not find out the gender but I do believe I spyed some boy parts, while the Dr was showing me the baby. He stopped for a while at what to me looked like a 'between the legs' shot. Didn't say anything and then moved on. Now of course I could be completely wrong. This machine was no where near as clear as the one we had the 13w u/s with.
They told us the baby looked very healthy but there were things, which could be missed on u/s. The baby was very active during the u/s so I really hope to be feeling stronger kicks and movements over the next couple of weeks. We did get one picture but it isn't very good. I will have to post it tomorrow, but honestly the 13w is much better.
One funny thing is the Dr thought it was strange the OB had us booked for a level II as we have had no problems with this PGcy and I guess it is not common to have a level II for a 'normal' PGcy. I always thought everyone had a level II around this time.

LMC ~ I totally understand where you're coming from. My first name is Dorothy:rolleyes: How many women under the age of 80 do you know with that name? It's horrid. My mother and grandmother were both Dorothy's as well. I was determined to name my child(ren) nice, attractive sounding names. When I was pg with my 1st DS my DH wanted him named after him...nooo way. I compromised and my DS and DH share the same middle name. I hated being a jr and couldn't put that on another person. With this DS it was sooo easy. We both found a name and loved it.
I hope you find a great name that you both love. It is hard to do that sometimes. Good Luck.
MSH ~ Yay for the healthy baby!!

Well, we had our 20w appointment yesterday and everything looks good, well we didn't have an u/s but heard the heartbeat and talked to the doctor about upcoming appointments. I am having my glucose test done next appointment 5/15, which I thought it was weird, for some reason I thought you had it done close to the 30w not at 24w, but what do I know, right?
Di- congrats on your baby boy!
ocgatita- happy belated bday
2Jacks- I am so sorry you had an awful day. I dong understand why the guy from the brace place was annoyed, he is the one that made it wrong in the first place! and I can't believe your son eats asparagus at 18 months, I always thought that is one of those vegetables you have to acquire taste for (at least that is how it worked for me). Too funny on the water tasting fishy, now that I think about it I have been drinking bottled water all along, I guess this poor baby is not getting much fuour, maybe I will buy some of that powder and start drinking it from the sink.
batgirl- I can't believe it either, things are moving along so fast I haven't even been able to cope with the idea that we are having a baby, can't wait til that one hits home! that is funny about being a boy, who knows there are still a bunch of you that haven't found out the sex, hopefully there are some girls coming.
craft- I am on the same boat, I had chick peas last night and the night before, and I had awful gas pains both nights. I am feeling much better today, so hopefully I wont need to take anything (I dont like to take any type of medicine if I can avoid to)
Suiej- I am definetly taking childbirth classes, I actually just got all the information on the mail on Wednesday, the lady told me that apparently during the summer they dont offer as many and September seems to be a very popular month to give birth, therefore I went ahead and I registered, I just didn't want to run into issues at the last minute. I am not doing it at the hospital where I will be delivering (this one is much more convenient, 3 min. from home) so I just wanted to make sure I got a spot there.
Dawny- I can't wait to experience that! seems like if my belly is not growing much... patience, patience, patience.
LMC- As you know that is the never ending story in my household, the problem for us that we both think that is very important which means we are both freaking out, at least your DH will be able to bring some sanity into the conversation. I think is completely normal that you are 'obssessed' about it, is too early to worry about labor and too late to worry about other things we have gone through now. I think someone else said it right 'second trimester is pretty uneventful' so pretty much we need to obssess about everything.
MSH- my friend didn't want to find out the sex of her baby (this is two years a go) and while we were looking at the video we could definetly see it was a boy, so I woudln't be surprise you saw what you thought you saw. As per the level II u/s; I know many people who had 'normal' pregnancies and had it done, not only that but my OB actually recommends that anyone between 30-35 gets it done.

4cm You always hear the stories about 30 hour labors and let me tell you that it is not exactly as it seems. i went into labor at 6am saturday and deliverd at 1pm sunday- BUT do not consider that a horror story. I felt something st morning- went to lunch shopped goofed off with a girlfriend. Still noticing something but convinced it was nothing. DH was so scared that he made me set up a plan just in case. ( he is a musician and played that night) I told him not to sweat it- I would send my dad should he not hear his cell.
I was on the phone with girlfriend around 9pm and she was like, " Heather- you are in labor I am timing the contractions and they are 9-7 minutes apart!" I totally brushed her off since they were so not painful at all!
DH got home at midnight. I was 6 minutes apart- I showered, laid down and by 2am they were 3 minutes. This is when I did the fetal position and got through it. I compare it to gas pains. Same feeling. We calle dr. he sent us to hospital and I was so sure I would get sent home.
The ride there my back hurt a ton- but I wasn't connecting it to labor at all. i relly thought that I could get comfy if I just moved. Got to hospital at 3am- was 4cm and got my epidural right an hour later. Had to wait for anestisologist. But so much was going on- I forgot about a lot of the discomfort
So I know not everyone had that experience, but it is possible to have an easy time. So don't let your friends scare you too much.
I have a patient who is a retired L&D nurse and she reccomends relaxing- however you need to- she said that was the key. For me it was true.
Dawny I too just caem from the chiropractor. I am loving it. I have never gone before, but this is good stuff for my sciatic. It seems like a miracle. I just finished my 3 week stint and the dr I saw today isn't my main one- so she suggested I set up an appt for next week to talk about what next. I really want to keep it up to help whe I get really big. Plus they said that it will help with the hips during labor. I hope so!
.babywish I am a hygienist- so I am all over the fluoride thing.... our babies form their teeth buds very early- but there is fluoride in lots of our foods too. Ice Mountain ( from michigan, there are two sources) has fluoride in a small enough dose. The Dannon worries me a bit because we should get 1ppm daily and I thnk one bottle is that. Too much fluoride can do harm to teeth too.. but don't sweat it too much.
DS eats tons of veggies. he is a green bean, broccoli, cauliflower lover. We gave it to him from the get go. I remember last summer- we were at a softball game and he was 8 mos old eating cold cooked broccoli and everyone was freaking out. We really try to have him eat what we do. i am no short order cook! But I did find that if I douse a little sesame oil on the asparapus he downs it. I like to put that on my rice too and have a asian flair to it. I am hungry now!

Lamaze / Childbirth classes - We took a child birth class that was about 1/2 childbirth, 1/2 relaxation stuff (though, during that, they talked about the stages of labor). I knew I wanted an epi, so I wasn't too concerned w/ the breathing, but it was really helpful just to be prepared with what to expect.
Labor for me came on VERY slowly...I knew I was having contrax at 7am when I woke up, but went about my day like normal (it was like having period cramps on an interval...but not even cramps that I would take Advil for.) By 10:30pm, they were like bad cramps, but still totally bearable, and had been coming for an hour at 5 minutes, so we went to the hospital (I don't feel like I needed to, but since it was getting late, we figured better be there, instead of freaking out at 3am!) I was admitted right away at 11:30pm at 3cm, and didn't get the epidural until about 4am at around 5cm...I don't think I really needed it then either, but the nurses told me the girl in the next room was getting hers and the anesthesiologist was awake, etc. For me, laying down made it hurt much worse, walking around felt the best (hard to do since they put the IV in right away when I went to the hospital...off the main topic here, but if the nurses can wait on the IV, I'd recommend waiting as long as you can!!!) :)

I don't post here often, but have been hanging around. We found out last week we're having a girl. We're so excited, but naming her is going to be diffcult. Here's my question: My MIL's name is Kathleen, and she goes by Kathy. I've alway liked the name Katherine, but would use Kate as a nickname. Is Katherine too close to Kathleen and Kate too close to Kathy? We're still tossing ideas around, but I wanted other opinions on this. We really don't want to reveal the final name to friends and family until after she is here.

Suiej- I delivered my DD at Shady Grove and will most likely deliver at there again unless I have to be induced and have to deliver at Holy Cross.
I'm in Burtonsville, and I'm using Holy Cross. I haven't been there, but I hear it's completely refurbished and state-of-the-art. :)
Congrats on your little girl, Kristibell!
Are you concerned your MIL will mind? Or that the family take it as you naming the baby after her? Not sure what your concern is. I think they are different enough that it's not really a concern. What about Catherine/Cate?
I was named Elizabeth after my Gram. She went by Betty, I have always been Betsy. No problems with the similar names.

Kristibell~ If I were a random person who heard that your daughter was named Katherine, I doubt it would even cross my mind to ask if she was named after your MIL. I think using Kate as a nickname is a great idea. I am a Kathryn and have always been called Kathy. I wish they had just called me Kathryn or Kate, but that is just my own hang up about my name. :p
Yeah, I really don't think Kathleen = Katherine. I think you'll be fine. If you love it, use it. Maybe use your mother's name or a variation thereof for a middle name?
After the Great Cat Debacle of 2006, FIL is acting like nothing was ever wrong, and DH is over there just as much as befre, despite saying several times a mere two weeks ago that he was never stepping foot in that house again. Glad it is blowing over and no big thing...
I think DH and I decided NOT to find out gender. We go Wednesday for the big U/S. Funny, I never wanted to find out, and he always thought he'd want to find out, and then we admitted a week ago we had both totally flip flopped our opinions. But we're both happy not to find out, looking forward to seeing and hearing the baby and hoping all is wwell and healthy! DH thinks I could never keep the secret if we did find out but tried not to tell anyone. I think I could. Maybe we'll try that experiment for number 2 someday!

Hello ladies!
Well, I got back from my "big" u/s and it went great! The baby is measuring very healthy, no signs of any abnormalities! I am so thankful. I have been having really bad dreams leading up to this u/s... And the baby is 12oz already! I didn't think it was that big, but I am feeling lots of movement now. Actually, the u/s tech said that we are going to "have our hands full" because the baby was squirming so much. So, we did decide to find out the gender. Shhhh, its a secret! And we're going to try really really hard to keep it IRL...
Threadmistresses, you can add me to Team....

I am very excited. I really didn't care about gender. I am a little worried because DH was pretty quiet after we found out. I know he wanted a girl really bad. I hope he's not too disappointed. I'm sure he'll get excited, right?

Congratulations!!
Can I just tell you guys I am in utter shock right now. DH and I are looking at furniture for the babys room and I just called a store for a quote on a crib ... $1000 CND!!! Is this thing made of gold or something?
I am getting so frustrated looking for furniture because everything, which is even half decent costs a forture here in Canada. I've seen a few really cute things at good prices, but they are only sold in the U.S. We are at the point where we are thinking of just ordering the items to a friend of ours in the U.S., then drive down and pick them up.
The way things are going the baby will end up sleeping in a shoe box.

Few SO's:
AnastasiaK Congrats and Welcome!
Kristibell I agree with the others. Katherine is not the same same as Kathleen. And I LOVE the name Kate! It has always been a favorite of mine. Congrats on a baby girl!
alliesmomma Congrats on a baby girl! I love the name you picked out!
I would like a few opinions about our top name choice. So please let me know what you think... Our (or my, since DH only picked out girl names) favorite boy name is Benjamin (or maybe just Ben). But we keep getting stuck on middle names (we want it to be a family name). We really like Benjamin James, but are really worried about the nickname "BJ" which we hate! And the other one we keep coming back to is Benjamin Gregory. Do you think that is too many syllables??? Thanks guys! (I can't believe I'm going to have a son!)
ETA: MSH yeah, I'm pretty amazed at how expensive everything is, too. How far do you live from the border? I don't see any reason why you couldn't get one down here, but they are still quite pricey. Luckily, my FIL offered to buy ours, so we won't be going the shoebox route!
Congrats, Batgirl!
MSH - where in Canada are you? Can you cross the border anywhere and get a cheaper US price?

Congrats batgirl!! Ya know? When we found out our DD was a girl, DH was VERY disappointed, but he quickly turned around and now she is the apple of his eye, so I'm sure that once the initial shock kinda wears off your DH will be happy with a boy! Just remind him how great it will be to have you outnumbered in the house! :p ;) I also really like Benjamin Gregory. It has a nice flow to it, I think.

HI girls!
Sorry not time for SO's today… busy at work. Just wanted to stop by and give an update on our weekend. Had a nice relaxing time, DH came back on Friday from a week trip (he was traveling for work) and took me on a 'shopping spree' to 'A Pea in a Pod'. I got a couple of cute outfits and a dress, DH wanted to get me more stuff but I just couldn't get myself to spend so much money for something I am only going to be able to wear one summer.
Other than that we didn't do much, spent time with the puppy, and just relaxed, the weather was beautiful all weekend, I can't wait until they open the pool (memorial weekend).
I am kind of bumped today, everyone told me how around the 20week I would pop out…. Still waiting, I have the 'fatty' look which I can't wait to get ride of. To top it off, I am starting to worry about my weigh gain. I was small to begin with and I know we are suppose to put on between 25-35 lbs, but back home they only allow you to put on 2.2lbs a month and my older sister didn't have an issue with that (she has a smaller build than me). On the first trimester I didn't put on any weigh, which I thought it was great (my goal was not to put more than 22lbs), well on the fourth month I put on 4 lbs, which I thought it wasn't too bad specially knowing how inconsistent I had been with my workouts and I had been eating pretty unhealthy. Well two weeks a go I got back on the workout wagon and started eating healthy again (I didn't even have ice cream this weekend!), well on Thursday's visit I had put on an additional 7 lbs.. in a month :eek: ! This morning I woke up and weigh in…. guess what, I am another 0.5lbs up, I am just very frustrated and really hope this is just the exception and not what I am going to be seen month after month.
Before I go, I wanted to ask Aletheia (I think you are the one that originally posted) for the month~ trimester cheat sheet you posted in our first trimester thread, I would have swore I printed it and saved it but can't seem to find it anywhere, can you please repost it? Btw you have a cute little preggo belly.. I am so jealous!

October mom delurking ...
babywish - Don't worry about the weight gain. With my first DS, I had a huge weight gain in the fourth or fifth month. It sort of shocked me, but then everything evened off. I think you and baby just hit a growth spurt every once in a while ... I'm smaller, too. I put on about 35 pounds overall, and lost all of it. So, don't be discouraged! You're doing fantastic!

I gained a whopping 75 lbs the first pg.... It came on in spurts. one month was 12lbs! I was sick a lot and ate a ton to make me feel better.
I lost it all by the time I was officially weighed at Ob a year later.
This time I am up 17 lbs so far. So I am doing great compared. But I have the " who cares " attitude. Since I know that it came off before , granted I am a different body than pre-baby. The most shocking thing was that flab belly for a few months afterward... my suggestion- don't look in the mirror below your breasts!

I'm pretty sure I felt the baby have hiccups for the first time today. With #1the baby had them 1-2 times every day, but I can't remember when I started feeling them. It's a really cool, rhythmic feeling!

What was the weights of everyones baby at there big us? Ours was only about 7 oz. I think. And I was measuring 19 wks 2 days. Is that okay?
Congrats Portland!
Cute belly, Alethia!
Mine looks nthing like that! Someday soon, I'm sure!
Alliesmom - I was just reading in one of the baby books that yo really shouldn't compare weights/measurements because there's no real, concrete, definitive way to measure so it varies based on who's doing t, plus, as we all know already, everyone's PG and baby is different. If you're worried about the measurement, call and ask.
Itchy BBs - try lotion?

batgirl Congratulations!
portlandbride Congratulations!
I think I felt the baby today for the first time. I wasn't really paying attention, but I felt something weird. So then I stayed still for a few minutes, but nothing after that. It was probably hopped up after all the sugar I ingested. :)
Has anyone else been reading the thread Everything you need to know about childbirth? Read at your own risk, but the link is here:
http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=15958&goto=newpost
I spent four hours reading it all this weekend and I am kind of freaking out from it. I had no idea about half the things people talked about! Before I was nervous about pooping on the table, now I realize that is the least of my concerns! Eeek! I would rather know about it than be surprised, so I am glad that I read it, but it was a real eye opener!

woo - team pink is catching up!
Itchy nips: Nope, but it can be 90 degrees out and I'll look as if I'm in a blizzard.
Birth classes: don't know. Need to see what my hostpital offers. I have a feeling I'll be reading that childbirth thread alot.
I should be okay on baby care: I've got a lot of family I can call and who has said they will be here (if I'm even allowed to change a diaper for the first month!)
GTT: Not yet, not sure when that is. Most of my appointments I schedule as late in the day as possible. I haven't had to wait more than an hour but I'm sure someday soon I'll be bumped to the next day or week. I hope they will give me warning so I can schedule it early and not go through a few long hours of wakefullness and no food!
Other than that, what is there to say? Boring pregnancy, boring baby. Spin, kick, flutter, whatever. I know I'm thankful for "boring" as I'm sure anything to worry would send me off in a Bridget Jones-like flurry. I'm cool with coooool. :cool:
Yeah, I hear ya on the "alert" nips thing. Lovely!
Try not to let that thread scare you too much. That's all pretty much stuff that might happen, that could happen. Chances are, you won't even notice if you poop on the table, or if there's a lot of blood, you know?

{b}The uterus massage was surprising to me, but I guess it makes sense. I wonder if they don't massage it enough, if it will go back to regular size or if it will always be big?

Alliesmomma, it sounds like you are right on track. My baby at 19 weeks 1 day measured in at 14 oz (but my son is darn near a giant, and this is another boy, so we aren't surprised.
Here is what I found at Pregnancy.org (http://www.pregnancy.org/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment2.php):
Week Nineteen
Your baby has the same awake and sleep patterns of a newborn. He has a favorite position for sleep and recognizable active and rest periods.
Throughout baby's body, nerves are being coated with a fatty substance called myelin, which insulates the nerves so that impulses can flow smoothly.
Scalp hair becomes apparent this week. It has sprouted and continues to grow.
The milk teeth buds have already developed and over the next few days the buds for the permanent teeth will begin to form behind the milk teeth.
If baby is female the uterus starts to develop. If you're having a girl, the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes are in place.
If it's a boy, the genitals are distinct and recognizable.
Your baby is swallowing amniotic fluid and his or her kidneys are making urine.
Your little one's size is around 6.02 inches (15.3cm) and 8.47 ounces (240gm).

Itchy BBs - try lotion?Lotion didn't work. :( I've now switched to aloe vera and to wearing large gauze dressings over my nips. :o I also stopped wearing my lacy bras. Just cotton for me!
I HATE the constant alert state of my nips. So embarassing.

Nothing much going on here. Still stressing about the furniture. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and links. I am just outside of Toronto, Canada so not far from the border at all. After we look a the cribs at one more local store we should have an even better idea of the price range and hopefully will find something we like. If not we have not rulled out the driving to the U.S. idea.
Also I am feeling the baby move from the outside now. It is so much fun. He/she seems to be more active right after I have lunch and also right after midnight.
This morning I work up and my belly was extremly lobsided. You could tell the baby was getting very comfy on my right side. I woke DH up to have a look also and we had a little laugh on the babys expense.
Lotion didn't work. :( I've now switched to aloe vera and to wearing large gauze dressings over my nips. :o I also stopped wearing my lacy bras. Just cotton for me!
I hear ya. I'm so darn itcy all day long. Sometimes I just scratch. I really don't care who is looking I just need relief for even just a moment.

babywish - WOW! Although your tummy seems to be poking out more than your last picture, you really aren't showing much at all !! You will probably be one of those lucky ladies who will have the baby and end up being the exact same size...if not smaller than you were before getting pregnant! I wish I was like that! But I must admit, I am pleased with my weight gain. As of my last appointment, I had not gained any weight. I am already heavy to begin with (I wear a size 14), so I don't need to gain anymore weight! My stomach is definitely bigger than it was before, but I'm not showing as much as some of the other ladies in this thread. I really wish I was showing more, but then again, I can't afford to gain much weight. I'm a little concerned about gestational diabetes, because of my weight and my age.

Pooping in labor I did it, you probably will to. BUT I had two lookouts who both reported back to me that they were tiny rabbit turds! and I only knew it because I felt the nurse wipe and then she walked away to the garbage! And by then I could have cared less, I remember thinking- I have to because if I don't then this kid wil never come out!
Uterus massage I actually never "delivered" the placenta. I think it was accesible and the Dr. just got it.
I did get the massage and since my epidural was sort of still in effect- it wasn't bad at all. But thye need to do that to start the contractions that help stop the bleeding. Nursing also helps that too.
I know I am the acdvocate of all going so well- but really I am so huge on wanting to tell everyone how well it can go- I seriously actually enjoyed it all! What a wierdo I am!

2Jacks, Im right there with you! I totally enjoyed my labor with my #1 (#2 was emergency Csec so I didnt have labor or anything) I started labor at 2am, we lived up in the Mtns at the time, I slept on and off til 6am, then we drove down the mtn to Boulder (CO) and went to a freinds house, I tried to cat nap some more as I knew I was going to be in for some serious work ahead. I got up off the couch around 10:30 am, took a shower etc.. we went to the birthing center just to make sure I was really starting labor, I was dialated 2cm, so they sent us away but said to stay close. We went to lunch and then walked around the Pearl street mall (an outdoor pedestrian mall in Boulder) my contractions were not bad at all, just like rythmic mentral cramps. At 4pm we went back and I was @ 5 cm so they checked me in and I got settled in my room. I watched Out of Africa and just tried to relax and let my body do the work. When we got to 8cm I went into a holding pattern, I stayed there for quite a long time, the nurse suggested I get into the bath to help me relax a bit more. I was in the bath a matter of minutes (like 15 or 20) and then WHOOSH! I went into transition! I was overwhelmed with the feeling and I called the nurse to get me outta the tub or we were going to have this baby right there! LOL! She helped me out, and helped dry me off, my contractions were coming like gang busters now, I cant say painfull, but INTENSE! Intense enough to buckle my knees, and make the walk from the bathroom to the bed (about 15 feet max) impossible without the help of my husband and nurse. I got situated on the bed, the nurse checked me, yup fully dialated and ready to rock and roll! My water still hadnt broken, the nurse called the Dr. and then broke my water. I panted til the Dr. got there, and then it was time do PUSH! I cannot explain what a wonderful feeling it is to push when its time! It feels SO GOOD! Dont believe what you see on TV and the whining "I cant" Now Im sure if you get stuck pushing for HOURS that would be the case, but if your ready its great! I pushed 6 times and Harrisons head was out, I panted out the shoulders, (that was the hardest thing, I REALLY wanted to push more! NOT PANT!) and then one more push and it was done! 8lbs 13 oz and 21 inches long! Harrison was born at 10 pm.

THANK YOU for saying that. My labor was nothing like the tv births that are "real". It was really a nice experience. I did have an epidural, but I could feel everything just not pain. I did push 2 hours, but I wasn't worked up about it at all and I didn't tire out!
Yee-haw for liking giving birth- it sure is better than fretting about it!

2jacks- sorry for the candy tip...you know you want to go though, don't you? Hee-hee
My $.02 on giving birth are much different because I had 2 c-sections. With the spinal I felt none of the after stuff at all. In fact with DD I said to my husband "do you hear that, they are stapeling me?" and with DS I could see them massaging my uterus in a mirrored reflection but couldn't feel it at all. The adreneline rush of a being a Mom reallly transfers your focus elsewhere anyhow. Oh & the before stuff, catheter, um shaving you (yes, for surgery they give you a partial Brazillian), etc, was fine too because you are so focused on what is about to happen. It wasn't bad at all.
Altheia & Babywish- you both look great. I am on my third kid but my belly didn't look anything like that the first time either;)
di, craft & all other nipple girls - I am with you. I have taken to wearing a cotton bra, a tank cami & then my regular shirts, every day. Won't be able to take that come August heat though.

I third the notion that labor wasn't bad at all. I was induced and labored for 24 hours. I pushed for about 3 1/2. While I was exhausted by the time Aidan was born (with the help of a vacuum) I never once said "I can't" or anything of that nature. I along with my mom and my DH was very surprised at how I dealt with everything. Normally I am a very high strung person. I was so laid back during the whole labor that I shocked the 2 of them:)
I also agree with Joann when she says that you are so jazzed up to become a mom that anything else pales in comparison.
Can I just say I am really enjoying every sharing their positive experiences of child birth. Often you hear all the negative (read painful) parts of giving birth. I think many 1st time moms go through PGcy thinking it is going to be this horrible experience and something you would want to forget ... I really aprecaiate hearing your points of view.

Ditto to what MSH said! I also appreciate all you RO's sharing such positive birthing experiences. It really helps calm alot of us first-time mommies fears about birth since like MSH said, you only really hear all the horror stories.
Thanks again.
Babywish - Don't worry about your weight gain. You are seriously tiny. I have already gained 10 pounds at 20 weeks and didn't start out anywhere near as small as you did. I think you will totally be fine.
Itchy Nips - Yes, I get them too from time to time. It drives me insane and I agree that lotion doesn't always help.
Eating - Has anyone noticed an increase in appetite? I feel like I need to be eating all the dang time :o
Take Care ladies, I need to go eat. I am STARVED.

Just a little more background on me for you ladies. My mother had my sister Kate at home, I was 10 at the time and I was a part of the pregnancy from day one. I went to appts, I went to a lamaze class with mom so I understood was was going to happen, and when Kate was born I was there to see it all, and be the first one to hold her, even before my mom. My mother was so calm and relaxed for the whole labor, so into her breathing that Dr. M actually had to coax my mom into pushing, " now on the next contraction, why dont you just try to push a little" (she didnt) "ok on the NEXT one, I would really like it if you tried to push okay?!" My mom is a yoga teacher and was in total meditaion mode. I think my witnessing of this peaceful birth really helped me have no fear when it was my time to have my first boy. My mom was 1100 miles away or so, and my (EX FOR A REASON OR 100!) Husband just sucked, thats part of why I watched Out of Africa, the main caricture(sp) reminds me of my mommy, so it was like having her with me when I needed her. I also was blessed with a WONDERFUL nurse, who was supposed to be off duty two hoursafter I was admitted, but she stayed on at my request with one exception, her 9 yo daughter would have to come to the birthing center as it was her husbands bowling league night. Of course I didnt mind! Thanks goddess for Nancy! She was my saviour! She was kind and kept coming in when the Dr. wasnt around and telling me how wonderful I was doing and to just relax and do it at my own pace (the Dr. tried to get me to hurry a few times, and talk me into a drip line to speed me up, as she was impatient that day (not my normal DR. and a total BITCH!)

catching up after being gone for a week...
my m/s is just about completely gone, i'm so freaking happy to have survived it again, i can't believe it's over :D dotsie i'm so sorry you're still sick, you're one tough woman!
boob troubles mine are still totally painful, which is great when your toddler is constantly climbing on you and elbowing you in the boobs. i think my nips are even bigger this time around, they're HUGE!
labor experiences i had a shockingly short labor with dd -- only 3 hrs. i won't lie, it was tough and i did say "i can't do it" quite a few times, but that was mostly during transition and i didn't have an epi. if you're planning on an epi then i think you have nothing to worry about, if you're planning on going natural, just prepare as much as you can. i don't feel like i was prepared enough, i wish i had gone with a bradley or hypno-birthing class, i'm wondering if i should do it this time.
Does anyone have little appetite? I don't know if it's just because food=scorching pain or if I'm just not hungry, but I can go seriously long hours without thinking about food. It just doesn't occur to me.

brenda - I don't have much of an appetite either. I think that I have actually lost weight instead of gained. My face is thinner and so are my arms. But from I am told, even if you aren't eating much, our babies will get what they need...even if we don't.

Eating. I have no appetite and when I do eat no matter how little it feels like I have eaten a complete Thanksgiving meal. I had lunch around 1pm today and I am still stuffed!!!
A week ago, I would have also said I had no appetite. But this week, I'm CONSTANTLY thinking about food - what's my next meal? What's to snack on? If I eat dinner now, am I just going to be hungry enough for another full meal before bed? Can I justify Wendy's AGAIN this week?
Sorry to hear about your heartburn, Brenda. That stinks!
I was getting ready for work today and DH looked at my belly, big smile on his face, and said "What happened overnight? You, like, popped or something!" LOL! How did he know that term, popped? hee hee.

I'm sorry for anyone else who can't eat. But, I'm glad to hear I'm not a total misfit. This weekend everyone was trying to make me eat more and I felt like a freak for not wanting anything. Well, I did have a huge honking slice of ice cream cake, but ice cream knocks down some of the heartburn and soothes my throat. So that's medicinal, right?

I too have loved reading folks' labor stories! I'm already getting full of anticipation... what will my story look like, I wonder?
Baby has not been as active the last couple of days and I have been EXHAUSTED. It's 9 p.m. and I'm seriously considering going to sleep. Does this mean growth spurt? What's going on in there? [poke poke]
My big US is a week away! I'm so nervous.
Oh, and add me to the list of people who were victimized by the ferocious Easter candy sales at Target. $.67 for a bag of Dove milk chocolate eggs? They might as well have just unwrapped them and crammed them down my throat for me. I brought home 8 packages of assorted Easter candy. Husband took one for himself and then ordered me to give the rest to my students. :rolleyes: I (sort of) complied.

Eating I am faminous too! But then not much fits in! Yesterday I actually ran out to Wendy's for lunch and got a bacon cheeseburger meal with a butterfinger fix -n-mix frosty. ( I normally detest butterfingers) I wanted to cry when I couldn't fit it all in. I am one of those eaters that eats one thing at a time so I had half my burger gone when I was full and hardly tasted the rest! So sad!
I even got up last night at 3am to eat a granola bar and milk! That is bad!
Speaking of crying Anyone else into that phase yet? Oh yeah - I am so there.

PortlandBride I don't think I've congratulated you yet! Congrats on the baby girl!
Boy, I'm trying to do SO's by memory... hope I got them right! I know there were lots of others but my brain is misfiring. Sorry.
DH gave me his cold, so I have been pretty sick ever since the u/s. Oh well, as long as the baby is fine, and with how much he moves, he is definitely fine!
Had a doctor's appt this morning. Up another 3lbs (6 total). I am very pleased with this, because I have eaten lots of ice cream in the past month, and now I don't have to stop!
Thanks to the fibroid, I am measuring 5 weeks further along than I am. So I have the belly of a woman 6 mos pregnant! She again warned me of pre-term labor... ugh, I refer to her as the "fear monger" luckily my real doc with be back next time.
Oh, and this is the scary part... she told me to start looking for a pediatrician. I said "already" her response... your going to have a baby in 4mos. 4 months! I'm not ready, I'm not ready....
Oh, thought of another so... thanks for the happy birth stories, ladies. I read that other thread (the one mentioned earlier) and it definitely freaked me out a bit. That, and too many episodes of "Birth Day" on the discovery health channel!
have a great day! Dotsie, I hope you feel better soon!

The wierdest thing happend with me here. My OB is in another city and I planned to have a ped in my city. Well where I delivered, they wanted the ped all set up- but my ped won't even pre-reg babies until they are born. So I had to have the ped on call at the hospital and then I called the day after DS was born to have our 3 or 4 day well baby. It worked great because the ped I thought I wanted was on matern leave and the one we got was GREAT! so I switched to her.
But es, it is coming up fast and believe me, even for an RO I am getting nervous- but more omportantly- whats' for lunch everyone?
I think i am stuck with PB&J. But I may run out for that yummy Nerds Rope!

lunch, I guess the gals are taking me out for admins day (secretarys day) so I am thinking INDIAN!!!! I just looove Palak Paneer mmmmmm.... Of course who knows how much I will really eat, I think it may be wise to get an acutal lunch instead of the buffet, as I can take home what I dont eat if its a lunch and eat it in a few hours when I get hungry again. It seems my life is all about grazing now, not big meals.
DH and I got into an arguement last night, well sort of an arguement. I was falling asleep on the couch and he was watching some dumb boy movie, so I decided to go crawl in bed. When I got to the kitchen it was A TOTAL MESS! My dear beloved soon to be 15 year old son, had once again done a total CRAP job of "doing the dishes" he didnt wash any of the pans and the leftovers from dinner werent even put away! ARGH!!!!! So I got pissy and started stomping and cleaning and I said totally to myself, "Oh I just loooove my family, yep I Loooove my family" well DH hears this from the other room and starts yelling at me that he had cleaned the bedroom so I needed to shut up! Remember that this is all happening as I WAS ON MY WAY TO BED!!! I am still working full time, and for the last month or so now every weekend is filled with moving furniture and painting rooms, and I am GETTING WORN OUT!!!! I also moved our office at the begining of the month, I am so worn out now, and is it REALLY annoying that my family doesnt seem to understand this. My house is a total shambles, I have done no cleaning in weeks, because every waking hour on weekends is spent preping and painting and painting and painting. I know the house needs it but COME ON! does it all need to be done right this minute? And my children are becoming worse than when pre pregnancy, they dont do any of thier chores, the argue with me and are rude to me, I am just so pissed off at all three of the males in my house at this time. ARGH!

since i'm daydreaming of vacations, i thought i'd ask if anyone has any vacations planned for this summer?
we planned on italy for a long weekend without our daughter but tickets are insane, so now we're thinking of a family trip somewhere, just dont know where.
my ob cleared me to fly domestically until 36 weeks and internationally until 32 weeks, so long as i have a full exam the day before i leave.
what about you guys?
Vacation plans I would love to go on vacation, even a long weekend before the baby comes. My first choice would be to go somewhere nice and warm. However, as I don't see my family very often I feel I should visit them if I do take a trip. This would mean I would either have to go to Europe (mom) or Jamiaca (dad). Neither of which I would mind but I am not sure we would be able to find the time for it. So I hope for a long weekend to Niagara or Ottawa.

Hey Ladies - I've been gone for awhile. DH and I took a long weekend getaway last weekend and went to San Diego - it was so nice and relaxing but now I'm back and, without having the weekend to get errands and chores done I'm feeling overwhelmed. Oh well.
I also had an OB visit last week right before I left. I met with the nurse practitioner (whom I love). She reviewed the results from my u/s the week before, measured me by pushing on my tummy, and promptly announced I'd be having another level 2 u/s.
Apparently the first one I had was with the radiology department, with a u/s tech, and a regular radiologist reading the results. They were not happy about that and instead are sending me to go to the maternal fetal medicine department to have an u/s performed and read by a perinatologist (ie someone who is a certified obstetrician AND radiologist). She said that the level of detail on the u/s wasn't good enough - especially because she thought that his measurement of how far ahead I am was off by as much as three weeks and, because by her guess I'm measuring a month ahead, she wants a more detailed look at everything.
Uh, ok. I don't really mind, it means I get another u/s and another peek at my little one. And this u/s will be on my birthday (5/11) so that will be fun.
I'm trying to think of what else we did - my weight is a little higher than I'd like (10 lbs already - since I'm so heavy to start with I didn't want to gain more than 15-20 max), but my b/p was really good so that's something. I had blood drawn for the AFP so hopefully no news is good news on that front.
Oh - random question anyone have a good remedy for heartburn? I've been getting heartburn so badly or acid reflux really I guess (are those the same?) that it's been making me throw up at least once a day. This sucks.
QOTD - Classes - Last time we took our classes in February/early March and my son was due mid-April. So we took them 1-2 months ahead of time and I think I signed up maybe 6-8 weeks before that. We took classes on childbirth, breastfeeding, and infant care. The infant care one was not too useful to me, but I think it was comforting and somewhat empowering for my husband who had never held let alone bathed or changed an infant before (you practice on dolls). Plus they gave some tips on when to call the doctor, things you should watch for etc. The breastfeeding class wasn't really helpful - I think more than anything it affirmed that you need to keep trying because sometimes is hard and there are people to help if you need help. But without a baby to put it into practice, it didn't do much. I had a hard time with nursing my son, this time I'm going to take a class again, but I'm going to see about taking one AFTER my son is born so I can practice and get IRL hands-on help if need be. I'm not sure if my hospital offers those, but I'm sure I can find a LLL class somewhere.
Regarding the childbirth class - our hospital offered two options, one that met for an hour or two one day a week for several weeks or one that was all day on a Saturday (like 8 hours or something). We took the all-day class and that was perfect for us. They discuss different types of medication and why you might or might not want them, they have you practice breathing (totally useless for me as my DH couldn't stop making moronic jokes so I couldn't concentrate), they have your DH practice massaging your back (made the class totally worth it!), they tell you what to expect stuff like that. Then there were movies - we watched three - natural childbirth, medicated childbirth, and c-section. The natural childbirth movie was very very scary and very different from the experiences of people I know who did med-free births. If that's something you're thinking about and you see this movie, don't panic. I think they also did some talking about what happens after birth (ie bonding time with baby then baby gets a bath and eye goop).
This time we won't be taking any of those classes but instead will likely take a "siblings and childbirth" class that is to help older siblings be better prepared for the arrival of a new sibling.
Labor Story - well, my labor was pretty rough for a while - not because of the contractions but because of the god-awful back labor. DS had his head down but was facing up (ie he was facing my belly button instead of my spine - or vice versa - whichever was the wrong way was what he was doing). The contractions didn't honestly bother me. The really awful pain on my spine did. And since that wasn't something that came in waves but rather a constant, it felt like I didn't have any relief. I was thankful for the epidural because, more than anything, it made that pain go away.
As for the pushing part, it took me awhile - about 2.5 hours of pushing. It wasn't that it hurt so bad (although it did hurt, just not awful screaming bad or anything like that) it was more that it was so exhausting (plus, and this is silly, I was feeling really guilty that I was keeping my OB from getting to her Passover celebration). At the end of 2.5 hours when my energy was just gone and I didn't have much muscle strength left, I was begining to feel like I would never and could never get the baby out. Thankfully, that was when they decided to use the vacuum puller thing and that gave enough extra oomph that I got him out.
Like I said, more than anything I was just exhausted. I don't remember the uterine massage thing, I do remember seeing kind of a lot of blood on my inner thighs and thinking "huh, lot of blood" but that didn't bother me. More than anything I just wanted to doc to finish sewing me up so I could stop showing my hoochie to the whole world and get on with holding my baby.
The one thing that I wasn't ready for, and which still kind of upsets me, was a side effect of the epidural. It made me throw up. Three or four times while I was in labor I had to throw up - sometimes while I was trying to push (and making those muscles go in opposite directions at the same time is hard). And then after the puking it made me really shivery and I couldn't stop my teeth from chattering. All that wouldn't have been a huge deal, but I was feeling so nauseous and shivering so badly, that I only held DS for a minute right after he was born because I felt so awful and I was afraid I'd throw up on him. That was NOT how I wanted my first moments with my son to go.
Hmm, enough blathering from me... hope everyone's having a good day.

I found the most comfortable maternity capris on earth. Well, technically they are "gaucho's" and I totally didn't think I would like the style, but they are SOOOO COMFY!! They are by Duo Maternity (JcPenney) and right now they are on sale for $19.99 to $24.99. I was so excited that my usual plus size body(20-22W) fit great in a normal XL(16-18)! They are considered "no panel" so you can fold it or keep it up, which ever is more comfortable for you. I swear I could live in these pants, I must get more before the sale ends!

Thank you ladies for the kind words about my weigh gain, today I feel much better I think is just a matter of not knowing how much weigh I will put that drives me nuts, but oh well as long as I eat healthy I should be fine, right?
Eating: I actually have not felt any difference in my appetite since I got pg, I can pretty much eat as much as I used to, even though for the last week or so I get fuller faster which of course doesn't mean I stop eating… that might be my 11lbs problem .
Personally I don’t see much of a difference on my belly yet, but I had a couple of people telling me that they definitely do, so that makes me feel good.
Lunch- DH surprise me at work (well kind of, he called and said he was coming to pick me up) and we went to CPK for lunch, had chicken chowder soup (if you have a CPK near by and have not tried their chicken chowder soup you must go) and a chix salad… of course I didn't stop when I was full and I ate the whole thing and now I feel so gross!
vacation planned for this summer we are definetly going up to Baltimore for the 4th of July weekend (MIL"s bday) but that I don’t really consider a vacation. I don’t have much time off since I am trying to hold to all my vacation/sick time for when the baby is born, but we are planning on going for a long weekend to the beach, still trying to decide where, we leave in Atlanta and seems like we always do Miami or Destin, any suggestions?
We are actually going to Spain in November (I will be there for three weeks with the baby and DH will meet us the last week), but it wont be the same… even though we can think of it as the first vacation as a family :)
I'm still eating all the time, and not gaining weight. Still, no one is worried about it.
Lunch - I had PB&J on whole wheat, split a can of soup with DH and had string cheese. And there's chocolate calling my name. I should have a cup of apple sauce, but ohhhh, that chocolate is talking to me, loud and clear!
Vacation - I think I'm cancelling our four-day annual family reunion trip. It'll suck, because we didn't go last year either (Had a wedding on the other side of the family to attend the same weekend). But I don't think at 8 months, I am going to feel like a 4-hour car ride each way, the heat, the crowds, my family... Oh! No! I mean... yeah, ok, I meant my family! And I also think I'll put those four vacation days to better use after baby is here, maybe going back more slowly, with a month of 4-day work weeks. We'll see what my boss is amenable to. (I work weekends, so a long weekend that might mean 2 days off for normal people is 4 for me.)
Had my 20 week U/S today. Everything looks good, no problems, measuring right on target, all looks good! So wonderful to hear that! Not that I'm going to stop obsessing or anything... anyways, it took about a half hour or a little more, we saw hands and feet, the head, profile, a yawn, the heartbeat, cute cute cute little feet, kidneys, limbs, etc. All looks good. We opted not to find out gender, though DH is now convinced it's a girl. We'll see!
So, you can add me officially to the SURPRISE category!
Holy crap - 4 months? REALLY? Oh my we have SO MUCH to do! We're buying our first house, and want to redo floors, tear out tile, resurface the kitchen, get new appliances, and all that before we move in. SCARY! Heck, just packing all our crappola sounds really scary!

Food - I could eat anything these days, except for spicy food. Of course, now that food is appealing again I'm trying to get back into healthy eating so I don't max out my weight right away. I do find that I fill up faster, but then I'm hungry again an hour later.
Lunch I'm working downtown today so I got one of my favorite sandwiches, grilled chicken with honey dijon and swiss. Mmm.
Vacation We're currently finishing up the details on our Europe trip at the end of May. We're spending three days in London, followed by 4 days with family in southern England for my cousin's wedding, then taking thje chunnel train to Paris for three days. We're finalizing hotels and railpasses and then we'll be set to go! I'm excited because it's not just a great trip, but it's also a great chance to see some of my family I haven't seen in years.
We may also be going away to a friend's house on the Chesapeake for a long weekend during the summer. Which means, maternity swimsuit. Ugh.
cosmic I've heard good things about HC. That's where they filmed the Discovery Birth Day shows, too, isn't it??
Heartburn Lots of water, a couple of Tums, and I avoid spicy food. I get HB like crazy lately, and I find that drinking milk or eating dairy helps, too.
Thanks to the ROs who have shared their birth stories, they've been enlightening!!

Food: my appetite fluctuates. Sometimes I'm starving, but can only eat a little before I'm full again. Sometimes I go hours without eating. Unfortunately, the second trimester has made my lactose intolerance kick into overdrive. Even a little ice cream without taking Lactaid has me moaning in the bathroom. :(
Vacation: we are going to the DC area in a month. We'll stay with SIL, go see a concert (Depeche Mode!), and visit some Civil War battlefields.
Heartburn: OTC ranitidine is a savior. I take prescription-strength due to overproduction of acid.

Jen- glad you stopped in. I think about you all the time and I hope you are doing okay.
Rosegarden- hang in there, sounds like you are having a rough time of it.
QOTD: vacations. Our origional plan was the Outer Banks in September with a group of friends but this surprise pregnancy has put an end to that. Instead we will be doing a long weekend down the shore & maybe one to the mountains with some days trips thrown in for good measure.
Kate- welcome back. Good luck with the Level II. It is really nice to have a specailist looking & reassuring. Hopefully you will get nothing but good news.
I totally agree about the breastfeeding class, I think it is much more useful after when you have the baby to practice with & you know what you are up against.. The childbirth class was more informative for my husband than for me and I ended up with a c-section anyhow, good thing thye covered that in one class. I think we went 3 months ahead of due date (total of 4 classes).
Babywish- I can suggest Tybee Island off the coast of Savannah. My uncle owns a house there & we go every two or three years, it is such a peaceful, relaxing place, probably my favorite place on Earth;) DH has family in Atlanta so we usually combine the trip & the drive between is about 4 hours, not too bad.
B- congrats on a good u/s and welcome to Team Surprise;).
Dawny- what a cute belly.
Well I had an OB visit yesterday that went well. First of all I was in & out which never happens, weight, heartbeat, measuring belly, all fine. The best news is that we are having a repeat Level II ultrasound in a few weeks to check on this cyst. I am so relieved to have the opportunity to check again & to meet with the perinatologist a second time, I felt a little blindsided last time & had no idea what questions to ask.

brenda - I don't have much of an appetite either. I think that I have actually lost weight instead of gained. My face is thinner and so are my arms. But from I am told, even if you aren't eating much, our babies will get what they need...even if we don't.
Hope you guys don't mind me chiming in every blue moon since Melanie doesn't have a j I come in here to check up on her :)
This was me during my pregnancy (aaaahhh only 4 months ago) I had only gained 9 lbs during my entire pregnancy and was worried didn't have much of an appetite either and my doctor reassured me that the baby was getting all of the nutrients from me. I was overweight so there was plenty of reserve calories on hand LOL! My little girl weighed 7 lbs 14oz at birth.
Hope you lasies are having a good day!:)

With regards to weight gain - I haven't gained much poundage, despite my huge belly. I was 107 when I weighted myself a few nights ago. My normal weight is around 95-98 lbs. I wouldn't worry about weight gain, so long as the babe is doing fine.
Very strange random question coming up.....
Anyone else having serious underwear issues? I can't stand the big old Granny pants type of maternity underwear. I can't stand anything at all constricting touching my belly, even the elastic of underwear! So, I've resorted to very teeny-tiny thongs, or going commando :eek: . I really don't know what else to do. I FORCE myself to wear underwear to work, but that's gonna stop soon, cause the bigger I get, the more uncomfortable they get. I have a couple of pair of boy cut, low rise in a size large, and they aren't too bad. maybe I'll buy some extra large ones.
My next OB appt. is on Tuesday, May 2nd. I can't wait to hear the heartbeat again!
Koala_Gurl

Dawny - I'm maybe not as annoyed as you (;)) but I do find smaller thongs to be most comfortable. Victoria's Secret has really low rise thongs in the "Pink" collection that have been the best for me (and I think 5 for $20 so not horrible.) They barely come up to the pubic bone, they are super low rise. :)
ocgatita
04-27-2006, 03:12 PM
Dawny - I am right there with you on the underwear thing. Definately needs to be low, under my belly and not dig into my sides like some of my "normal" sized thongs have been lately.
Anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

batgirl - Thanks to the fibroid, I am measuring 5 weeks further along than I am. So I have the belly of a woman 6 mos pregnant! She again warned me of pre-term labor... ugh, I refer to her as the "fear monger" luckily my real doc with be back next time
At my last appt I was measuring 2 weeks ahead because of my fibroids. My doctor hasn't mentioned the pre-term labor thing lately, but I am having monthly ultrasounds to check the size of the fibroids and the length of my cervix. Apparantly the length of the cervix is very important with regards to pre-term labor...my doctor said that they don't want the cervix to measure less than 3 cm this early in the pregnancy. As your pregnancy progresses the cervix length becomes shorter and shorter....and the fibroids can sometimes trick the cervix into shortening prematurely. Mine has measured 5.6 cm at the last two ultrasounds and the doctor says that is VERY good. Is your doctor having your cervix checked with each ultrasound appointment? My doctor also told me that if my cervix started getting too short, she would do some procedure that basically sews up the opening to the cervix. :eek: That doesn't sound like much fun...I hope it does not resort to that!
terry's wifey -That's what I had heard about the weight gain issue. I'm glad I haven't gained because I certainly don't need to gain any unnecessary weight! My friend is having her baby in two weeks and she has only gained 4 pounds the whole pregnancy!!!!!! And she was overweight to begin with also. Hopefully I'll be like that.
Vacation - HECK NO I won't be going on vacation this summer!!! I can barely get my husband to approve my trip to Houston next weekend!! And that's only a 4 hour drive away!!!!!!!!!!! Husband is very cautious. Plus I guess I am too. Especially with the threat of pre-term labor. My sister and mom are going to Florida to meet several of my aunts at one of the aunt's vacation beach home. I WANT TO GO SO BAD!!!!! They are going to have so much fun!!!!! But my mom and DH have told me that I can't go! :mad:

Vacation~ Doubt it. We are going to a wedding Memorial Day weekend out of state, but that looks like it. I have to try to get some of my thesis done before the baby comes and DH is finishing up his last few classes for his MBA, so I doubt we will have time.
Weight~ I am having the opposite problem as many of you. I am steadily gaining and have been since the end of the first trimester. I have been banned by my doctor from discussing my weight gain because he doesn't want me to be "obsessed" with it. Too late! :p He gave me a lecture this morning about being so worried about how much I am gaining, so I am going to try to be good and not stress about it.
I had my 1hr GTT this morning. It wasn't that bad at all. I was expecting the orange drink to taste a lot worse than it did. It wasn't good...it just wasn't as bad as I had it worked up to be. Heard the baby's h/b - 132 and I am measuring right on track. So very good appt. My next appt. is May 16th.

Vacation ~ Nope, we don't have the money for it. We have entirely too much on our plates this year. Next year I'm hoping to go on a cruise.
Weight Gain ~ I'm still at my prepg weight. I have a feeling it's going to be going up very soon. I'm not geting sick as often as I was (I actually had a sick free day yesterday :) ) so I'm sure when I go to my next dr's appt next week I will be up a few...if not more.

Vacation - currently we're planning to join my parents at their place on the Outer Banks over fourth of July week... Plans may change as I get a little panicky over having enough leave saved for after the baby is born.
Weight Gain - I'm really overweight to begin with, so I wish I weren't gaining but I am - 10 pounds so far. Last time I gained 42 and by my six week post partum check up I had lost 36 (and that's without really doing any exercise and certainly no dieting). So although I don't want to gain weight, if it happens it happens and I won't freak out.
Underwear - I am currently living in Old Navy maternity low-rise bikinis. I can't stand having anything cover or touch my belly so these seemed like a good plan and are working well. However, I don't really have enough so if anyone has any brilliant underwear suggestions I do need to buy more.
Maternity Clothes for the Office - I need help. I thought I had enough office wear clothes from last time, but I really don't (because too many things from last time are winter weight). I ordered a bunch of things from old navy, but I really feel like they are too casual for my office - people don't wear knit things like t-shirt material things here. Any suggestion where I can find some good office-appropriate clothes? I don't need suits, just nice pants and either blouses or short sleeve sweater type tops. And of course money is tight so don't go recommending anything too pricey!
GAH, speaking of work... I need to do some.
No time for SOs right now, gotta get a little bit of work done first ;)
I did however, want to drop off my most recent belly shot.

MSH - Aww, look at your cute belly! I think you've popped! :D
____________________________________________
Weight Gain- I have gained 10 pounds total. I started out a little on the heavier side since I was up 20 pounds more than I like to be when I got pregnant and now I have gained 10 pounds. It doesn't help either that my Dr. is super strict about weight and that everytime I go she gives me crap about putting on more weight :rolleyes: Hopefully I didn't gain too much this time or my Dr. will have a fit for sure and I'll get to hear it.
Vacation- We were going to go on a cruise but decided we should probably just save the money for whatever we may need for the baby. Next year we are DEFINATELY going on a cruise though! I just LOVE cruises and I know we will need the R&R :)
So my MIL bought our crib for us last weekend! DH and I are super, super excited. We should be receiving it in the next 2 weeks! DH has already made some wall letters of the baby's name to hang above the crib. I'll have to post a picture when we get the crib and bedding together.
Have a great weekend ladies & take care of those babies!

just came back from having lunch (and a short nap ) from home and saw my manager and three others going out for lunch, which to me is like a little vacation, so I decided to spend the hour or hour and a half they are at lunch here at the CC.
Weigh gain I have already talked about how upset I am about this, but after seeing everybody else I guess I am not so bad, I am just obsessed with my weigh and I really don't know how to stop thinking about it . I am really enjoying my pregnancy, but if I would change anything about it would be not worrying about the weigh... oh well.
Underwear issue I am with you ladies! but I found that motherhood (sorry, but so far is the only thing I have liked from there) carries maternity thongs and they are the best! they stay below your belly and I have the feeling they are going to last throughout the whole pregnancy. The only bad thing is that they run pretty big, so for someone as tinny as Dawny I really don't think they will work... sorry .
Dawny and MSH you guys have the cutest bellies!, by the way MSH I am not sure if you popped out but I would say you are definitely there!

I had my big u/s today. Add me to Team Blue. My due date has also changed toSept. 4. The baby was measuring at exactly 1 pound. I go back on May 30 for another u/s and appointment. I was in trouble for my weight again. So far I'm down 13 pounds from my first appointment. I was told if I have to live on choc. and ice cream for the next month I have to gain weight no matter what. They also are checking my blood counts because I've always had a problem with very low iron. I started craving ice (which is my symptom my iron is low) so they want to check it.

Just a reminder, if your doc is giving you crap about weight gain, you can give it right back. Just tell him/her that you KNOW you're gaining weight, but being lectured doesn't help you.
I hate people who try to tell you how to be pregnant. Even doctors. Ugh.
Also, a med prof cannot weigh you, take your BP, etc without your consent. Don't be bullied by someone who is supposed to be helping you.

Welcome to team blue cjones!!!
Suiej, Congratulations!
MSH your belly looks so cute in that pic!
UTchick I'm glad you mentioned the 1hr GTT. I got my orange drink yesturday and was seriously dreading drinking it. Hopefully it won't be too bad (I don't know why they gave it to me already. I don't have the test for 4 weeks... :confused: )
Craft They mentioned something about cervix length when they first discovered my fibroid. The NP (aka fear-monger) mentioned lots of scary details (including the stitching shut of the cervix to prevent it from opening!!! :eek: ). The only thing my doctor said is that he will be keeping a close eye on it, and haven't heard anything else. I know they measured the cervical length at my u/s, but I never asked about it and they didn't tell me how long it was.
Here's hoping that neither one of us with need our cervixes stitched shut!!! :D
Di I didn't know Depeche Mode was still touring! That's so cool! Have lots of fun. I am still very disappointed that I can't go to Lalapalooza this year. All my favorite bands are playing (of course). But there is no way I can stand in the sun for 3 days at the end of August. :( (or can I????? ;) )
Undies
I have fallen in complete love with Gap's low rise cotton hipsters. They sit right below my bump and are very comfortable. I highly recommend them.
Vacation DH and I are going to a scientific meeting in New York in June. I know it may sound boring, but since all of our friends are science geeks (us included) they are all going to be there. Its been a few years since I've seen everyone together, so I'm really looking forward to it.
I don't want to take too much time off, since I don't get paid maternity leave, and don't want to dip into my leave balances too much.
Well everyone, have a wonderful weekend! TGIF!

Orange Drink - I threw mine up with both of my previous pregnancies. I"m dreading it this time. I can't stand the taste. I know a lot of doc's give it to you at your previous appointment to take home with you. They say getting it ice cold makes it taste better. My doc keeps it in a fridge in the office so they just give it to you at your appointment. Be prepared to sit. I was told I had to sit in the waiting room and was to sit still. They told me if you move around in the hour your test results won't be accurate because you sugar level will drop if you start walking. My friend is diabetic and she walks when her sugar is high so it makes sense.

Orange DrinkMy doc keeps it in a fridge in the office so they just give it to you at your appointment.
I wish my Dr. gave me the stuff to take before hand. This time around I will have to bring my 13-month old DD w/ me, and keeping her in a waiting room for an hour??? Yikes!! Maybe I'll ask...(but the Dr. doesn't do the test, I have to go to an offsite lab.)
Oh, and I had mine ice cold...maybe it does help?

I am way behind, congratulations on to all who recently found out if they were having a BOY or a GIRL
We had our US today. Baby is measuring a week ahead and is healthy! Gender is a SUPRISE, but I saw a clear view of the legs and there was no 3rd leg! So I am 99.9% sure we are having another girl.

Orange drink~ Yeah, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. They gave it to me out of the fridge and with a straw. I think the straw helped because while I was drinking it, it just tasted like orange soda. It was after swallowing that I got that sugar punch.

Tee hee. Just have to share-- It's crunch time for me as a student/instructor, and I'm trying to relieve some pressure on my tailbone (that has been sitting quite a bit in these past few days), so I am slouched way back in my hair with my feet up on a tall stool, lap top in my lap, grading papers via the internet.
Now how's this for a distraction? My stomach keeps jumping around! Even when I make up my mind not to look, it keeps catching my eye since it is in my peripheral vision. :) Being pregnant has been pretty distracting thus far, but when I keep getting pulled out of a student's paper because my belly is actively vying for my attention... it's just funny to me.
I guess I should enjoy it! Soon enough, it won't be a belly jumping around that pulls me away from my academic work-- it will be a screaming infant, a bored toddler, or a teenager up to no good! ;)
But right now I'm one happy mommy with one bouncy baby.
Felt my first kick from the outside last night! :D
DH tried so hard to feel it too, but every time I was feeling something inside and he put his hand there, baby would stop. And once when he did feel something, it was gas... [blush]

octoberkate My suggestion for office maternity clothes is Liz Lange from Target (I find the best selection online). I have found three pairs of pants that are staples in my wardrobe as well as long sleeved tunics that are comfortable while still fitting in with the business casual environment of my office.
Vacation I wish. I will take a long weekend in the summer to see my friends from high school at a lake house. There isn't any air conditioning, though, so I may be happy to leave.
Undies None of mine are comfortable. I need to head out for some low rise thongs, maybe trying Motherhood like babywish suggested. Here's a question for thong wearers - what are you planning on wearing after you give birth? I have worn thongs for the last few years without fail and find regular undies uncomfortable. But I'm guessing that thongs will not work directly after birth.
Weight I definitely think I am gaining now. My last appointment, I was still under my original weight when I found out I was pg, but all the cheesecake has surely changed that. ;)
When does the GTT get performed? Anyone know what week (ish)?
Was just in Target today and was again totally underwhelmed by the selction. Did manage to find a pair of shorts and a pair of jeans. But there was very, very little selection. Maybe because it's not a Super Target?

My dr's don't order the GTT test until the 28th week. Target has the worst selection of maternity clothes. JCpenney's has a decent selection. I refuse to buy from Motherhood again. I bought a pair of work pants and after one wash on the gentle cycle the entire hem came out of one leg. I paid close to $30 for them!!!

Motherhood clothing The worst part about MM- the return policy! No returns or exchanges. I too have gotten some junky clothing there.
Kohl's carries Oh Baby! a motherhood line.
undiesSince MM doesn't return- i bought the high rise undie pack from Kohl's incase Iwanted to return them. I am on my 2nd pack. Theygo to under my belly button- I bought them larger since I know Iwill grow and also wanted looseness. Very little elastic- goodthing! Creepers- ocassionally!
BTW I still can use them- but my motherhood nursing bras are crap and I had to pin the flap cup to the part that stays ( you know the peek a boo part) while pg because it separates anyhow leaving skin showing between material and if you wear a light color the whole world can see.
weight at fridays 21 week visit I was up 19 lbs. I so don't care. This is better than last time by far. I forget when but I was so bloated that I lost 30 lbs of water weight 3 weeks after the delivery! My legs were gross!
when are yo ugoing to OB every 2 weeks? After my next visit the 6th month visit, i will be going every two weeks. This is what I had last time too. My girlfriend with the same Dr. didn't go so often. Hmm??? He is hot and I like going - so yay!

Motherhood - don't get me started!! Yeah, you can't return stuff because it falls apart! I have had OK luck with basic t-shirts (though the fit isn't great). I bought so much of that stuff when I was PG with DD, and I ended up tossing most of it after one cycle in the washer (on delicate.) This time around, I won't set foot in that store...I'd rather spend a few extra $$ at the Gap or Old Navy.
Oh, the one decent thing about Motherhood...their nursing bras. I have a few from there, and they actually have lasted really well. :)
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that stupid "initial here" return policy. Cheap bastids!

*raises hand* Another one who will never buy from Motherhood again. I bought two pairs of really cute cuffed cropped pants. I wore one pair and washed on delicate. DH wasn't thinking and dried them (I was warned not to dry their clothes) and they shrunk so badly. They were pretty big on me to begin with because I wanted them to last till the end of my pg. When I put them on, they were actually tight in the butt and legs. I held them up to the other pair that I haven't worn yet and I swear they shrunk 2+ inches in the waist/belly area and close to 2 inches in the legs. :mad: It just infuriates me!!
ETA: I did my 1 hr GTT at 22 weeks 3 days. That is pretty early, but my appts. are off a little from the norm. I had my big u/s at 18 weeks. I think it is because I had to go in a lot in the beginning (6weeks and 7 weeks) for bloodwork and 2 u/s so my appts got off. Most people don't even go for the first appt. until 8 weeks, but I was an "infertility" patient. So my point is, don't use my appt. timeline as the norm. ;)
I just wondered because at my 20 weeks U/S last week, the perinatologist doing the U/S said something like "Just regular monthly visits now, please don't skip them" at the end. Nothing has been mentioned about the GTT, and don't I have to fast for that? I thought it was done at 24 weeks, which my next monthly appointment will be. Maybe it's 28 weeks?
UTChick
04-30-2006, 09:03 AM
I did have to fast, and he told me at my u/s appt that the next one would be my GTT. I usually go in at 1:00 and he wanted me to schedule for 7am due to the fasting and be prepared to stay for over an hour. There must be a wide range of when you can do it and your doc may be thinking the 28 week mark. But...if you think it might be this next time, you might want to call in and ask just to be on the safe side.
Also, my doc switched me to appts. every 3 weeks now. RO's, is it already time for that? I will be 23 weeks tomorrow.

Mine's quite nearly flat, and when I push on it, it pushes back out! I've been playing with it. I worry that the belly ring may need to go soon. :(
Does anyone else have terrible, atrocious, killer gas pains? I've tried stretching, lying on my left side, peppermint tea, ginger in all forms, and very little helps. I'm so miserable, and have been for three days. I had a stretch of this a while ago and it went away. I'm sad to find it back again. :(

Undies Post-Birth - since twink asked and all... in the hospital you will likely get funky mesh undies. These are large, like granny panty size, but they are great despite that. They expand to fit your body perfectly. Plus, more importantly, those first few days you'll need to have mega gigantic pads and you may want to have ice packs (that look like mega pads) down there and these magical mesh panties can accommodate all of those things... plus if you don't get the pad changed fast enough or if there's just too much going on or something and you have a bit of a mess you don't care, because they are disposable mesh panties. When you come home you may want something with more of a crotch than most thongs. You'll need to wear pads for a while and, at least for the beginning, you may need the more substantial size pads rather than just liners. So my point is basically that twink, you might want/need something more than just thongs for a few weeks after the baby is born.
Belly button - mine barely popped out last time (and I got really big so that's not it). For the most part mine just sort of flattened out - which was really weird looking. Maybe because it's really deep and a really small "knot"?

Undies - I wore thong until I delivered. After delivery I wore the granny panties! I also took advantage of the disposable ones in the hospital. They were actually very comfy and I may steal a few to bring home this time around. I ruined several pairs of brand new panties the first few days I was home.
Belly Button Mine is almost flat right now. Last time it was flat but never popped out. I'm thinking this time it might actually pop out since it flattened so early on.
I bought a few things for the baby!! I wish I had the patience to wait until he was born but I just couldn't do it. It is kinda nice knowing so I can start some serious shopping. We also bought a new car on Friday. We bought an 06 Chrysler Town & Country. I'm in love!! We had to have a minivan with 3 kids. I am really going to miss my car but am loving the van so far. It has the stow-n-go storage so it has a lot more room then any of the other vans we looked at. I would highly recommend one.

Belly button~ Mine is still an innie but a lot more shallow than it used to be. And I think mine will be flat eventually also, by the looks of it at this point.
I was talking to my mom yesterday and she said she didn't get stretch marks with me at all and got just a couple of small ones with my brother that faded very quickly. So here's to hoping I take after Mom on this!

Panties: I wear my same old until after delivery & then it is granny panties for me too, they were packed away with my maternity clothes & boy are they BIG.
Belly Button: My inny is headed outward. Never did with #1 & did about 36 weeks with #2.
GTT: I will get my slip at my 28 week appointment & have to go to the lab before 30 weeks. I had GD with my first & not the second so I am sweating this already. Exercise absolutely effects your results. If I had to have pasta or other high sugar/carb stuff when I had GD I would take a long walk after eating it to lower my blood sugars.
Craft –yeah for more movement. It is the best, isn’t it?
Aletheia- Sorry, no gas pains but boy has the indigestion started on me. I guess I’ll be having one hairy kid;)
Someone asked, I start 2 week appointments at 30 weeks & every week at 36, I’ll have a c at 39 weeks, although I am hoping I can swing the end of 38 instead;)
Things are great here. I am feeling tons of movement which I love. So excited for our follow up ultrasound on Monday, May 22.
Happy Monday girls!
I am fianally starting to transition into mat wear. I bought 4 tops on Friday night and they are so comfy but boy do I ever look preggers now. I'm quite enjoying it :)
We also went shopping for the baby's furniture but came up empty handed. In the end we decided we are just going to get the PBK items we have liked since day one. In the end their prices are very comparable to anything else we liked.
Belly button I am not seeing much change so far

twink - I wore my norm size after delivery. The big round part of your belly will be gone and that is what seemed to me to be the problem with panties not fitting. Your tummy will still be a good size but it will be soft and flabby. If you wanted to go up a one size it probably wouldn't hurt. It's your own preference.

Panties I'm still loing my VS V-strings, they sit really low, but I switch to maternity bikinis at night. Old Navy has some comfy ones, and I found the bikinis from Motherhood on sale at Kohl's, too!
Belly Button I think mine is a bit shallower, now that you mention it! But not shallow enough that it didn't get full of goo during my u/s last week.

Twink - I think I wore one size up after delivery... of course, my "normal" size were probably a little too small before I got pg anyway (funny, apparently my ass grew while I was busy sitting on it over the last few years) and I should've up-sized but I didn't want to admit the need.

I had the most depressing shopping trip last June. DH and I went to an outlet mall and there was a trendy underwear store. So I went to get a few things. Well, it wasn't nearly as much fun once I realized I needed not one but two sizes larger!! I think it was just that store though as I am my old size anywhere else.

Not much going on here, other than my back is hurting pretty bad today (I guess I can consider this my first pregnancy symptom which at 22 weeks is not bad at all) :D .
I was exhausted the whole weekend, I went to a BBQ on Saturday (DH decided to stay home at the last minute) and met some friends for brunch on Sunday, they just had a baby 1 and 2 months a go, the babies were so cute, but it seems unreal to think that a couple of months a go we were four people preggo at one of my friend's babyshower and now I am the only one left.
Belly Button: so far, I don’t see a difference.
Maternity-Motherhood: I hate that store, I am sorry but I do. I had gone there a couple of times and never bought anything because I could tell they would not resist one wash. A week a go I went back, because I really need shirts for work and I am not willing to spend $80 on a shirt that I will only wear for 4-5 months. I end up not buying any shirts because of the whole quality thing, but I bought a 'maternity support' belt to wear at the gym (I heard your back does a lot better if you wear one of these). The thing is I couldn't find the one someone had recommended so I bought the one there, I end up finding the other one online and went on Saturday to return the one from Motherhood that I had never wore. This is our conversation:
- Me: Hi, I wanted to return this item, the receipt is in the bag
- Saleslady: OK… ohh hmm, I am sorry this is a final sale we don’t return final sales.
- Me: this was not on sale, you can tell I paid the full prize, is on the receipt and you can see the tag on the bag.
- Saleslady: it is a final sale.
- Me: I don’t understand, a sale is when you pay less than the full price, I paid full price
- Saleslady: well, it is a final sale and we can't take it back.
… this went on for like 15 min. I wanted to kill her and then she goes;
- Saleslady: well, all our accessories are considered final sale.
- Me: well, I wish you would have told me that before!
I stormed out from the store and I am never shopping there again, ugh!

Re: Motherhood Maternity - I actually have quite a few motherhood shirts from last time and two-three pairs of pants that held up quite well... the difference, however, is that I'm pretty sure I bought them all at Macy's. The Macy's near me stocks their maternity section with Motherhood items. The bonus of buying from there is that the return policy isn't so inane and, maybe for some reason they hold up better? I don't know why they would, but I probably wore these shirts and pants at least 20 times last pregnancy and I've already worn each of them maybe 4 times this pregnancy and so far so good.

Oh, and ditto 2jacks on the taking the mesh undies. Take whatever they give you and ask the nurse for more. They are seriously the best things. And if you spill and bleed on them you can easily wash them out and hang them to dry to wear again. Because they are disposable they don't hold up for more than 2-3 wearings, but they are so comfortable and so convenient. Seriously, even if you think we're nuts, take as many as you can and decide later if you want to use them or not.

I agree w/ everyone else, Motherhood sucks! Unfortunately, I have quite a few things from there since other than Old Navy, its one of the only places I have had luck finding anything remotely cute to wear that wasn't $90 per item.
Belly button- Mine is pretty deep but it has gotten significantly shallower in the past few weeks. I am not sure if it will completely pop out but we'll see.
Question - has anybody's DH felt the baby move/kick from the outside yet? My DH hasn't and he is super anxious to feel something. I hope he gets to soon.

I have been getting lots of movement from the baby, which is very exciting to me. He's especially active in the morning. Unfortunately, hubby can't feel it from the outside yet. I know he'll be happy when he can do that.
And- another Old Navy fan here! I just haven't found any other maternity clothes that measure up. Literally. Every now and then I'll get a random piece of clothing from Liz Lange in Target. But mostly Old Navy maternity pants, a few tops, and my trusty Bella Band are helping me hold it all together for work.
DH has been complaining about my nighttime wardrobe though, since I've just been wearing whatever mother-hubbard gowns that were too big before, lol. If anyone has recommendations, please pass them along. :D

Maternity Clothes:
About the only place that I do shop is Motherhood. I have outfits that are now on their 4th pregnancy and still going strong. Everyone else's stuff has fallen apart on me so quickly . In fact, I have 3 shirts from Liz Lange at Target that need to be returned right now because they fell apart after the first washing. I never even got to wear them. I don't know if there is a huge difference between their plus-size and regular clothes, but perhaps this is the case?
Undies: I am all about the granny panties when I'm preggo. I cannot handle having anything pressing on my belly, so I'm a total Urkel until my stomach returns to normal. And ITA about the hospital panties, stock up, they are the greatest for recovering!
Well, I had my heart re-check ultrasound today and they said everything looks good. It just must have been a shadow last time, so that is a HUGE weight lifted off our shoulders. I will see my doctor on Wednesday for the full report. Here is a picture from today:

LyLMyss That is the cutest baby profile!
I've just been wearing whatever mother-hubbard gowns that were too big before oh YEAH 2ND THAT! Loving the granny moo-moos! I never stopped wearing them from first pg! Poor Dh! Of course I stopped shaving the legs too!
Here is a moo-moo story! beware of clutziness as you grow. I swear I was falling down more than I stood up! I fell 3 times in the shower- thank god just to my knees etc.. but still!
So- When pg with DS, mom and Dh were painting the basement and I came down teh stairs in my 2x pink night shirt carrying laundry. Now the part that gets me is that I was "carrying laundry" making normal people think you might be going towards the laundry area! right?! Well they just painted teh floor that i had to walk over and sure enough I walked right through it, slipped, did the whole flailling arms thing and landed on my rear. I was at least 8 mos! I had grey paint all over the moo-moo, my undies and even in my butt cheeks- yep I said in!
I was so mad since no one did anything for a while until I demanded that Dh help me up . I made him scrape the paint off me in the shower etc.
Recently- my mom saw in the paint stained moo-moo again and burst into a fit of laughter- remembering the incident. I was mad all over again!
belly button mine is about flat now. it is a deep innie usually. Good to see it is clean in there!

For everyone having your first baby, hang in there - in a few short months your heart is going to be ripped right from your body. The days and weeks may feel painfully slow now, but revel in them. As soon as your child is born the minutes, days, months and years feel like sand pouring through your fingers and, desperate as you might be, there is nothing you can do to slow them down. And after the pain of childbirth wore off, I felt a whole new kind of pain - I had no idea that I could love someone so much that it would make me feelactual physical pain. It is strange and wonderful and difficult and simply amazing. And I'm doing it again!!

And after the pain of childbirth wore off, I felt a whole new kind of pain - I had no idea that I could love someone so much that it would make me feelactual physical pain. It is strange and wonderful and difficult and simply amazing. And I'm doing it again!!
Booksie ~ You are so right with this quote. It is the most amazing thing. Pregnancy seems to go on forever but the moment they are out, time starts to fly. My DS will be 3 next month:eek: It doesn't seem that long ago that I had him.
The other day I was watching t.v. and they were talking about kids picking on other kids, I actually started to cry thinking about someone being mean to Aidan. I wish I could shield him from every kind of pain in this world. The thought of him hurting absolutely kills me.
It is 3 am and I am up...why you ask? Because my DS woke up constipated screaming that he had a "poo ball stuck in his hiney". DH just went to Rite Aid to get him something to help him out. Ah, the joys of motherhood:p

koala- congrats on a healthy looking baby & welcome to the surprise group.
Dorothy- hope Aiden is better. Cute stuff, that was so sweet of your Mom. I have the Fischer Price take a long swing & it has lasted 2 kids (plus been lent out to a friend) I am hoping it has 6 more months left in it. The one thing I really need to get a bounceroo thingy because Will loved the one we borrowed, but our friend no longer has it.
LMC, cute u/s. Glad you got a good report.
Craft- I love the second one too, is that PBK? So cute.
Maternity PJs- I have a cute pair from Mimi but they were very $$$. I also bought ON sleep pants in bigger sizes & wear with there maternity camis.
ETA: In rereading my post it occured to me that I must be having a girl because apparently I am turing into a teenage chic & using the word "cute" every other sentance. With my son I had the humor of a 10 year old boy...fart jokes were so funny:)

Feeling lots of punchs - kicks twitches and turns! I love that!
She seems to really respond to DS when he is in a babling frenzy! I am so in love with the thought of siblings now! I am getting over my worry and starting to anticipate good things! Yea!

i want to second, third, fourth, whatever the suggestion to take the mesh undies from the hospital. this was some of the best advice i got! take the pads, too, they're super absorbant (way more absorbant than the kind at the store).
for pregnancy, the only undies that fit me are the body by victoria hipsters and they fit like a dream. well worth the money.

maternity clothes: i love love love the maternity clothes from the gap. they're way better quality than old navy (especially the tshirts) and not all that expensive since they have good sales. their sizes run big, though.
i do have a pair of jeans from motherhood that i LOVE and fit great and are good quality, but i think they're the rare exception. :)
movement: i've been feeling regular punches and kicks for the last week or so.
~~
i had my ultrasound last week and unfortunately did not receive good news. after 1.5 hours, they were unable to locate a stomach in the baby. the babe is also measuring 10 days behind. this is very worrisome, although my doctor said that it could be a tech or imaging error. i have a repeat u/s in two weeks to rule out error and again two weeks after that (assuming it's not an error) to see if they can get more information on the extent of the problem. we were pretty freaked out for a few days but now we're doing okay. i will say one thing, it's given me a lot of perspective. i don't think i'll ever complain about my daughter's ear infections again.

deliciousjones - Oh, my heart goes out to you!! How scary!! Hang in there and please keep us posted. You and your baby are in my thoughts and prayers.
Dotsie - The "poo ball" story cracked me up!! Poor kid!
And I know exactly what you mean about other kids picking on DC. I was thinking the other day about how my daughter will have to go through so many dissapointments in her life. All the regular things like finding out she's not good at something or hurting herself really badly or finding out that someone doesn't want to be friends with her or that there are scary things happening in the world and the death of people she loves, etc. I know it's all character building, but man oh man it's gonna suck to watch her go through it!!

DH got to feel the baby kick for the first time this morning. The look on his face was amazing. With our first DD she would run when he would touch. So he never felt her kick at all. He just got to see my belly move. Have lots of energy now. Been cleaning house the last two days. With only one more room to go. The babies room. Now for just keeping it all clean. And with a 3yo that is going to be fun.

delicious so sorry about the u/s. i really hope it's just an error, how hard it must be to have to wait 2 wks, i'd be a wreck.
dotsie what nice parents you have! i'm think i'm gonna get that swing, too. i definitely need 2 swings this time. that other thing looks interesting, is it really big?
as an fyi to the new moms, fisher-price has awesome customer service, just call them whenever something isn't working right. my dd burnt out her swing (she napped in it until she was a year old) and they just sent me a whole new top part with no problem.
maternity pj's uh, i usually wear dh's pj's, not cute. i don't know why maternity jammies are so hard to find and when you do find them, they're so expensive. i could try larger on pj pants, but they're already so long on me.
i have a dr's appnt today, i'm not sure if i'm getting an u/s, i'm almost 19 weeks.
DeliciousJones I'm so sorry about the news you got at your u/s. I hope it was just a technical error.
Not much going on here. The Fatzy is really active, rolling around like crazy. I keep trying to call DH over when he/she is moving so he can feel it too but DH is too slow getting there :)
I have an OB appt this afternoon. I doubt there will be any exciting happenings, probably just the usual.

deliciousjones - Thinking of you. Hoping it's something as simple as an imaging error.
PJs - Uh, I always just wear like big tshirts to bed, so those are still comfy. I have some cute summer weight shorts and cami or pants and tanks type pajamas, and those are OK for now. And, uhm, the other day when I got into bed nekkid, DH really didn't have anything negative to say!

I usually wear my dh's tshirt and underwear to bed. Although I am starting to hate all forms of underwear. Elastic is now my enemy:mad:

we ended up having the u/s today! all measurements were right on and everything looked good. we're so excited to be having a boy! we really didn't care b/c it would be so fun for dd to have a little sister, but we're really happy and it gets me off the hook for having any more kids ;)

HA! That is Dh's dream! I can't stand my ta-ta's hanging out! So too bad for him. I am starting to hit that stage where I can't stand a bra and I can't stand not to have one on either! Ah- how annoying.

I'm 21w 0d today. Friday and Saturday I was feeling what I thought was regular movements, it was like popcorn and fluttering. Since Sunday I haven't felt anything. Is it normal for it to come and go for days at a time at this stage? It doesn't take much to make me worry, should I be worried? I'm guessing it's normal, and I am just insane.
twink
05-03-2006, 09:24 AM
Kristibell I have no idea what is normal, but every so often I think I feel something and then nothing for the next five minutes. I am trying not to be paranoid but it is kind of strange. I always thought that once you could feel it moving, it would be moving around a lot and be noticeable. Maybe that comes later on?

movement - It can take several weeks to feel movement all the time. Don't worry!! I'm 22wks, been feeling movement since 16 weeks (my 3rd child so I felt it early) and still go some days when I feel no movement. My husband has also been feeling kicks and you can see my shirt move with kicks for almost 3 weeks now so don't worry!
