View Full Version : St. Patrick's Day Snacks?
Does anyone have any suggestions on a snack I can provide for my students on St. Patrick's Day? I have to take allergies into consideration. TIA!

What kind of allergies are you dealing with?
As a kid, I was always partial to cupcakes with green frosting. :) I also love those shamrock-shaped gumdrops. I bet Pillsbury does slice-and-bake cookies with shamrock designs in the middle, too. Pretty much anything colored green will most likely be a hit.

What about Green jello (we call it Green Goo and we are doing it this week to tie in with our measurement unit but using a slightly different recipe).

You could do green rice krispie treats cut into shamrock shapes. Not sure about wheat/glutten allergies though.

What grade are you teaching? I have had high school and elementary and my students always loved the cupcakes with green frosting. Not one complaint- ever. :D
One thing you could always do is green popcorn balls or something- depending on what the allergies are...
I think kids will be happy no matter what the color, shape or size as long as it is a treat and a break from regular class.
I look forward to hearing what you do. :)
Thank you for all the responses. I hate making rice krispie treats so that's probably out! The allergies are to nuts, but I also have one who follows a diet according to her religion so she doesn't eat gelatin. I would love to do jello with pudding and green sprinkles, but I can't because of her. I suppose I could buy some cupcakes, but I was trying not to spend too much money. Hmmm...mint ice cream. I think they have ice cream sandwiches with mint ice cream. I did see a recipe in Family Fun, but I can't decide if it would be too time consuming.

Have you thought about DIRT CAKE? You could add green food coloring to vanilla pudding, layer with cut up chocolate sheet cake, top with a gummi worm for each kid and maybe crumble up some oreos for added "dirt". Every kid I know loves this dessert. :D
ETA: make in individual plastic cups and it is less mess. :)

If you have the time to make cupcakes, that's much cheaper than buying them. Then just stir some food coloring into vanilla frosting in a can. Voila! :)
