View Full Version : Look Who I Found

I found this little guy this afternoon running around in the street. He doesn't have a collar, so I put up "Found" signs all over the neighborhood. So far no one has called. I think he's a pekingese, but if you ladies have any other ideas, let me know. I'll be taking some of the flyers to the neighborhood vets tomorrow when they open.

Aww! It looks like a Pekignese to me! Another idea would be to take him to the SPCA just to get scanned by their microchipper scanner.
My dog has a microchip but I always worry about my dog getting lost without his collar and no one thinking that he may be microchipped and taking him to find out.

ITA about checking for a chip.
Also, check the paper for "missing" ads.

Good call. I'll take him in tomorrow to get scanned. I hope he can go home soon, my cats aren't really digging him

You can also file a "home found report" with your local humane society. That way if anyone calls to tell them that they lost a pekinese they can have your info handy. If you don't want to keep him at your home your local pound can take him from you and keep him for the stray wait period, but I'd be careful to inquire about their eval. process and euthanasia rate incase they euthanise adoptable animals after a certain amount of time.

We took him in to get scanned this morning and he did have a microchip. Unfortunately, he was never registered with the microchip company, so it's completely useless. :(
I'll drive around the local vets and shelters and leave a flyer in case someone calls or comes by.

If you don't get any answers from your fliers and signs, you could also call a Peke rescue. A quick google search found one in Houston (www.houstonpekerescue.com), maybe they have some contacts in Dallas.
You're so great to help him out! :)

Two years ago I found a beautiful black lab wandering around with no collar. I got her in my car, and drove her to the ASPCA to see if she ahd a microchip (she didn't). Then I drove to the Police Department of the town where I found her and they offered to keep her in their pound. I told them I'd rather take her home (their holding area is outside and it was cold!), but left all my contact info and the dog's description (they even took a polaroid).
Honestly, part of me was hoping I could get to keep her, she was the sweetest girl! But the day after I got a call from a woman who was her owner. She was able to correctly identify some of her markings on the phone, and told me how her 3 sons were devastated at losing their dog (it was right before Christmas). So she came to pick her up and the doggie was happily reunited with her family.
I hope this little guy has a similarly happy outcome. Check in with the PD of the town where he was found to see if they can help.
Good luck!

ITA with katiadarling about making sure he doesn't end up somewhere that could euthanize. I know you wouldn't do that but those places just break my heart. How frustrating that he has a non-registered microchip!! Good luck and good for you for taking the initiative to help this pup!!:)

Good news!!!! We found his owners :D
The owners live about a mile from me and saw the flyers when they were driving around looking for him. I'm glad he had a happy ending (althought I will miss the little guy). :)

Lucky dog!
Did you tell them about the microchip? Silly people. It was good of you to do all that.

Thank you ladies for all of your kind words :) I have 2 kitties and always hope that if they happen to get out, someone would do the same thing for me.
Jesvet - I told the owner the microchip wasn't registered and he didn't even realize the dog was microchiped. I think the previous owner/breeder must have had it chipped.

Awww, I love hearing stories like this. :D I figured he was probably just lost since most strays are mutts. I can't imagine losing an animal

YAY! Good for you for making posters! :D
I am worried now that my dog's microchip isn't registered. Although I know it is. I did it with the SPCA. I am paranoid. There was this extra thing you could pay for through the microchip company and now I am worried that because I didn't pay for the service that his microchip isn't actually registered.
I am SO scared of losing my dog one day. He is a runner and we are working on heel/come/stay and all that but I am still scared one day he will slip out the door or something. :(
Yay a happy ending!!! As for microchipping, I'd highly recommend it and make sure, at all costs, you keep your info updated.
Our dog ran away from my FIL's while we were on our honeymoon and even though my FIL was listed as a contact (about third contact down on the list), they told us that they only give out the first contact info. If they don't get a response in a week, then the open it up to the other contact info. So please, make sure ALL your info is current and up to date with every possible way to contact you (home, cell, work, fax, email, etc.)

I have this fear too. When I called them to change my name, I made sure our names were in the system. I think next time we're at the vet, I'll ask them to scan her too.
I'm glad his owners found him :)
