I am curretly 4 weeks PP from a c-section and stil trying to BF. Long story short I have supply issues and DS has latch issues. I am willing to try and give it another two weeks-but at this point he is getting more formula then BM.

I went to the doc yesterday and she gave me the mini pill. I heard it can decrease you supply-The doc said it won't decrease my supply but I hate the idea of making things worse. They said it was better to take it to be safe so that I don't have to worry about an accident and that it won't decrease my supply and that it might increase. Also I was thinking about switching A's formula and if he has a reaction to it I don't want to be confused if it is the pill or the fomula.

Thoughts? should I wait the 2 weeks or just take the pill

I started on the mini pill at 6 weeks PP. I didn't notice any decrease at all in my supply. If you would feel better about waiting a couple of weeks, then just use other protection for the next two weeks and hold off on the pill.

That is what I was thinking but the doc said better to take it and be safe--

that it won't decrease my supply and that it might increase.

There is a lot of conflicting information about this. While that might be true for some, I would think that the possibility that it might decrease your supply would be a concern for someone who is struggling as you are.

All the documentation that I have read states that the "supply decrease" side effect is far less likely if you begin the mini-pill between 6-8 weeks postpartum.

Quite honestly I'm surprised that you got the all-clear for resuming 'activity' already, since a c-section is major abdominal surgery (my dr. was firm about waiting until at least 6 weeks after my c/s).

For everyone's sake I think I might just wait the 2-3 weeks, or use a barrier method of contraception if necessary. It's only 2 weeks after all.

One more thing and then I promise I'll shut up :D -- it is very important to take the mini-pill at the same time every day, even moreso than with the combination estrogen/progestin pills. So if that's something you might have trouble remembering at this stage of the game (I know I would never have handled that at 4 weeks PP) then it won't be of as much use protecting you from another pregnancy.

Oh no we didn't get the all clear yet-but since I am only BF some of the time they recommend starting it at 3 weeks PP

I believe that the mini-pill slightly decreased my supply, but my supply wasn't that great to begin with. So I stopped taking it after a month and my supply went back to normal. Now we use sheer physical exhaustion as our main contraceptive. ;)
