I'm waiting for his freaking pedi to call back.

Baby oil is the only thing I can attribute this rash he has. I thought he had dry skin, so for the past two days I've lubed him up in baby oil.....well this morning when I bathed him his skin was red, irritated, and he has a small bumpy rash all over. My mom came by on her lunch break, and she sees it too(I was thinking it may be dry skin).

Have any of your children experienced the same reaction to baby oil? I'm so nervous, TIA:)

It might just ba a rash from dry skin. My ds gets that and I have been putting lanolin on it.
Or it might be fragrance in baby oil, baby oil usually is pretty highly fragranced and talks about being not for babies under 6 months. Some of the stuff can irritate my skin.

I would guess at the fragrances in the baby oil too. Even the natural stuff - lavender, chamomille,... - can cause an allergic reaction.

Don't feel bad about it, mommyhood is a trial and error experence.

We went through about three body washes for ds before I was happy.

It could also be clogging his pores, and if his pores are clogged and he gets warm/sweaty he could be getting a heat rash. Fairly common, especially if he's wearing polyester fleece pjs.

These things happen! Just try something more basic and keep him in 100% cotton clothes until it goes away. We've had great luck with Eucerine Original Lotion, and my DS has dry skin, prone to excema and heat rash.

Don't feel bad these things do happen. Its especially difficult when companies market something like 'baby oil' to use on your baby! Baby oil is the last thing we should put on our baby's skin. Not only is it juiced with a bunch of fragrance but its primary ingredient is Mineral oil which is made directly from petroleum - as in the same petroleum that is in gasoline.

I'm not saying this to scare you by any means! I just feel the need to tell people that baby oil - and anything with mineral oil for that matter - is very bad for anyone's skin, especially for babies.

Try to use something with more natural ingredients with little fragrance added.
I'm a big proponent of www.burtsbees.com or another not so well known company with great products is www.dakotafree.com - their baby balm is awesome.

ITA! My Ped huffed with annoyance when I asked him what I should use, since I got about 1,000 different bottles of lotions potions and bath stuff at my shower...he can't stand how many products are marketed as for babies, when they are loaded with chemicals, fragrances etc that irritate the sensitive skin. Its so misleading....
