I used to have a Littermaid and after a few months it broke. I am thinking of buying another but I'm a little worried that the same thing will happen again. So while I was searching around online I saw this Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. It's under 25 bucks and seems to have good reviews.

Amazing! No more scooping! Just roll the boxes top to the floor and the tray is ready to empty.
I'm wondering if anyone here has one, or if you have some other Littermaid alternative. Also, if you have a Littermaid, how long has it lasted you? I don't know if I just had a bad experience or if breaking is a common problem.

My parents had one like that, but they stopped using it. I'm not sure why. Hmm, maybe the kitties didn't like the cover. I cleaned it for them a few times and I don't really find it any easier than scooping. The poop sits there until you roll the whole thing on its side. We had a littermaid and used it for about a year. I wouldn't say that it broke, but it just got nasty. It couldn't keep the box clean enough for my kitty. So now we're back to the regular old box.
I used one way back when and it seemed to work okay as long as nothing stuck (with cat urine and litter, it can happen). In that case, I had to scoop anyway. I ended up just scooping from this box after all was said and done.

When I was dealing with problem elimination, the woman I worked with at CI said self-cleaning boxes are not good for houses with multiple cats.
Because the box cleans on a timer (X minutes after the cat leaves the box) it could begin working while another cat is in the box, therefore scaring the daylights out of him and making him want to avoid the box.
Even if not for problem litter behavior, both of my cats pee against the back of their boxes every single time, and I need to scrape the clumps off and wash down the plastic, so the rake wouldn't help.

We're looking at buying that Omega litter box this weekend, and I was actually going to post here looking for opinions on it, but you beat me to it! :) It looks great, especially for the price.
We need something covered to help keep our Corgis out of it. We only have the one cat, and she's really small. But she kicks litter like crazy, and it's driving me crazy! So this box looked pretty good.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DH thougth it was the best thing ever when we first decided to purchase the litter maid. 6 months later we both hated it so much we chucked it and went back to a basic box.
We had 4 cats at the time and the littermaid just couldn't handle it. I'm surprised it can handle one quite frankly.
The best investment we made was a heavy duty METAL scooper. :D

We have two cats, and two litterboxes like the posted pic. (Different brand, I think, but same concept.) Love them! They're easy to use, and we luckily haven't had problems with "sticking" like kam described. We've been using them for about 4 years.
t3h_wookie, the opening is pretty big, so I don't know that it would keep a small dog out. Actually, the whole box is huge, so this isn't a box for a small space, in case that's a concern for anyone.

I won't get the automatic boxes because I insist on soaking and scrubbing the box and cover with Mr. Clean every week. We use box liners, but I like to know it's clean because the plastic itself absorbs smells. I did try a box with a similar concept as the one shown but I really just found it more work and messier with all the litter dust getting over everything than regular scooping. It wasn't the same design, though, so maybe that one works better.

We had that Omega Paw box. It is easy to clean, but it uses a lot more litter than a traditional litter box. We eventually went back to a regular scoop it yourself box.
We use this litter box and we're satisfied with it. There can be some clogging, and rolling doesn't work as thoroughly as scooping, but it does the job. We find if we roll it every other day, it works better than letting it get "dirty" longer than that.

I bought into the Littermaid thing and ended up sending one back to Petco and the other is being used like a regular litter box. What a waste!! We went back to the traditional box in place of the other (we have two litter boxes) and it seems like much less of a hassle than the headaches the broken/stuck automatic ones caused!! :)
