Apperntly she was out with some friends drinking and they all went home and she decided to stay out. They found her body wrapped in a blanket and bound with packing tape the next morning.

How unbelievably awful.
I truly want to launch a public health and safety campaign that urges young people to have a buddy system when out driniking. How many stories have we heard about a young woman (usually) getting separated from her friends and then tragedy strikes.

I know and the thing is--she was a smart girl--she was studying at John Jay--she doesn't seem like the type of girl that would just go home with anyone ya know.

I have a friend who was out with some friends, had one too many, and was feeling ill. Her friends wanted to keep partying, so they did the responsible thing -- they put her in a cab, so she would not drive home in her condition. My friend gave the cab driver her address, and the next thing she knows, she passed out.
She awoke in severe pain -- the cab driver had raped her (apparently more than once) and was now raping her with an object (I won't go into more detail).

That was horrible! (both the original story and the story ysolde just posted)
I feel so bad for the girl's family :(

That's truly horrific. It's so scary. My cousin and her boyfriend were kidnapped at gunpoint while he was walking her to her car one night (for safety) and then murdered after being forced to withdraw money from their ATM accounts. It's hard to believe that there are people out there who do these cruel things.

This makes me sick - the poor girl, and her poor family for having to live with knowing how she died. :( Ugh.
It's been all over the news here in Boston (where she's from originally). The details are so gruesome that I don't think I can watch another newscast about it. I can't believe there are people in this world that could something so horrible to another human being. My heart goes to all of her family and friends.

DH was telling me about this yesterday, as John Jay is where he teaches! He has several friends in the Forensic Science Grad program, but no one knew her. They do go out to bars a lot at that school. While DH was still in the Grad program there it was normal for him to not get home until way after midnight because they'd go drinking after class. It's an intense, stressful program.
Things like this is exactly why my friends and I never let anyone go off alone ever. Especially if someone met a guy at a bar. It just wasn't allowed. How aweful! My heart goes out to her family now.

Update on this
According to the NY Post today they are looking for a man who I guess attacked a young girl a few months back around the area where they found the body. He was posing as a cab driver.
Also she was spotted at a bar at 3am by herself and after a few drinks, she left. So no one spotted her with anyone.
Her ex BFs family has offered an award for any information.

That is just unbelievable. It is horrific. I am from the midwest and did not hear anything about this. Seeing that noone is going into detail but it is already detailed enough. I couldn't imagine being told that news.
My heart goes out to her family and friends.
People are sick!

I hope they catch this maniac, and fast. This was definitely not a crime of passion. This killer knew exactly what he was doing. He already has his modus operandi established. He has obviously tried this before, and I'll bet that after all is said and done, we'll have more bodies from past months or years with the same types of atrocities performed on them.
What is really sad to me, is that it doesn't matter what we women do to try to protect ourselves. They will find women to victimize. I am by no means paranoid, but we can only try to protect ourselves as much as practically possible. If somebody wants to cut the power to my house and break my window, he'll be able to get in while I'm home alone. But my main point is, there are probably a few prostitutes who have already fallen victim to this guy. I would say he saw this young woman walking around intoxicated, and decided she was an easy mark- but I suspect that he was out looking for *someone* to victimize, and he was going to do it. It makes the news because the victim wasn't a prostitute, drug addict, or runaway. He was completely prepared. He had rope, a blanket, a sock, tape, and something to mutilate her with. He also had a dump site all picked out.
I really hope someone gets away or has gotten away at some point during the development of his technique, and can help identify him somehow.

Just wanted to update you guys on this
They are looking at a bouncer from the bar. I guess people saw them leave together. Also they found the tape that was used on her in the basement of the bar and the blanket she was wrapped in had cat hair on it and the bar has a cat.
He is has been in jail before for robbery. Here is some info from wnbc
http://www.wnbc.com/news/7738001/detail.html
As NewsChannel 4's Jonathan Dienst first reported, police have been questioning a bouncer of a trendy bar where graduate student Imette St. Guillen was seen hours before her naked and bound body was found in a desolate area of Brooklyn.
The man, whose name was not released but was described by police as a potential suspect, was on duty at The Falls, a SoHo bar, when St. Guillen was last seen alive on Feb. 25.
On Sunday, police officers, some in white laboratory suits, searched the bar and the entire two-story building that houses the bar for evidence.
The building is owned by the family of Geraldine Ferraro, the former Democratic congresswoman, vice presidential candidate and Queens prosecutor.
"They went into the basement, they went on the roof, they went upstairs to the second floor," Ferraro said. "We allowed them total access to anything that they wanted to see."
"I think they went in as much to eliminate any evidence as to search for anything in particular," Ferraro added.
St. Guillen, a student at John Jay School of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, visited The Falls in the early hours of Feb. 25, after walking there from the nearby Pioneer Bar.
Authorities believe someone accosted St. Guillen after she left The Falls. There are several security video cameras in the neighborhood, but police haven't found any showing her in the area at closing time.
The 24-year-old criminal justice student was raped, strangled and suffocated with packaging tape that was wrapped around her face. Her body was found later that night dumped on the side of a desolate service road in Brooklyn.
Friends and relatives at her funeral in her native Massachusetts on Saturday remembered her for her infectious smile, bold confidence, love of board games and penchant for high heels.
"You were and are the love of my life," said her mother, Maureen St. Guillen. "When I need to speak to you it will be private. I will go into my heart, where you will always be."
A $42,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
