My sweet little kitty April is sedated at the vet's office by herself right now awaiting xrays to be taken of her leg. She's been limping for about a week and a half now and it seems that our vet misdiagnosed it as an infection from a play-fight wound (she and my other kitty Logan like to wrestle sometimes) when we first brought her in a week ago. He sent us home with some antibiotics and told us wait a week and bring her back in if she was still in pain. Well...she's definitely still in pain and now I'm worried sick that it's something serious. Especially since she wasn't treated for the correct problem right away. Trust me, I am not very happy with this vet and will be taking my kitties elsewhere from this point on.

So now I'm anxiously awaiting a phone call from DH when the vet calls him back with the results. April is about the sweetest kitty ever...she's normally extremely affectionate, playful, always happy...and seeing her go through all of this pain and suffering is killing me. Someone please help me cope with this. Waiting around for the phone to ring, not knowing what is wrong with her is kind of getting to me. I feel helpless, worried, and frustrated. Has anyone gone through anything similar with their cats?

Hi-
I haven't gone thru the exact same thing but have been anxious awaiting news on my kitty-- especially when he's been sedated. He had to have a tooth extracted a few months ago. He's a diabetic so the complications are possible and he's 12. I feel for you so I am sending you.. .and your kitty... a big hug of support!

Thinking good thoughts for your kitty!

We came back from a weekend away about a year and a half ago to find our Ollie limping badly. We were afraid that while we were go he had jumped or fall and broken his leg. It was so bad, we had to carry him to the litterbox a few times a day so he could pee because it was too painful for him to move around (he would pee on whatever soft surface was close by at the moment).

We rushed him to the vet the next morning, had the vet test his leg and do an x-ray. Turns out, he had a bone spur on his elbow caused by arthritis. A few doses of painkillers and some sort of arthritis meds (can't remember) and he's been fine ever since.

................................

My brother's cat Bob broke his leg a few months ago and the vet missed it because they didn't x-ray him properly. Sean took him back to the vet after he was still limping and the re x-rayed, found the break and casted the leg. Bob promptly tore off the cast and the one after that. The leg has healed and doesn't seem to bother him although Sean says you can feel where the break was because it never had the chance to be set properly.

Now, that story wasn't to scare you, just to say that even if something serious did happen and treatment was delayed, your kitty has every chance of still being perfectly fine! :)

Good luck and let us know the results!

Sending good thoughts for April! Knock on wood I've never had a problem with either of my two kitties, but my 9-yr old dog has had several limping episodes recently along with lethargy & it scares me to death. So far the vet hasn't been able to find anything wrong & she eventually gets better. I'm sure your kitty will have no problem with the X-rays, and I'm hoping they find something minor, so you can rest easy knowing she's receiving the right treatment.

Thank you all so much for the support! It definitely helps soooooo much to hear other's stories. I know it's silly, but the thought of her stuck at the vet's office all by herself, in pain, confused, and scared makes me really sad. I can't wait until we can bring her home. No word from the vet yet, but I will definitely update when we get any news.

Ok, now I'm really upset. You can read the whole day's progression on my journal. It is now almost 5:30pm...April has been at the vet since 10am and they still haven't x-rayed her. DH has been calling on an almost hourly basis and they've had one excuse after another for the delay. When she was originally brought in, DH was told she would be ready to go home at 2pm at the very latest! That deadline passed almost three and a half hours ago! DH and I are about to go down there and raise some hell so we can bring our poor April home. I can't believe they've had her for over seven hours and haven't had enough time to take some quick x-rays. I'm in tears over this... :(

Well, she's back home. Finally. And the vet has no clue why she's in pain. He couldn't tell us ANYTHING. She has no fractures or anything else that looks to be the cause. He said it most likely wasn't a muscle sprain because that would have healed by now. She had an elevated temperature when we first brought her in a week ago, which is one of the reasons he originally assumed it was an infection of some sort. He's just baffled. But he gave us prescriptions for a couple of medications that should lessen inflamation and discomfort, as well as orders to keep her confined to a bathroom to keep her off her legs.

I'm writing an email to the cat rescue group that recommended this vet to us and explaining everything that happened throughout this ordeal. Then I'm researching another vet for my kitties. If the medications don't help April in the next week, we're taking her elsewhere for a second opinion! Neither or them will ever be going back to this vet office!

And before I forget...I want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has provided support to me today. You ladies helped me get through this emotional and very stressful ordeal! It means a lot to me! Seriously!!!

I hope that April will now be on the road to recovery and whatever mystery illness/injury she's suffering from will be gone soon!

It sounds like you are very much on top of things. I definitely agree that a new vet is in order. You sound like a great furmom.
