View Full Version : what foundation do you use?
what foundation are you currently using and would you recommend it?
please post your skin type too :)
------------------------
currently i'm using Jane's Stay Calm (drug store foundation - $4?)
i have combo skin - slightly oily t zone and some areas with dry flakes (but not cheeks).
it has thin coverage - i prefer medium. it doesn't cover that well but if you like thin coverage this isn't bad. easy to blend. and what i like most is that it's in a plastic squeeze bottle! great for travel, and easy to control how much you want to squeeze out to use.
would i buy again? probably not unless i have good skin and don't need the extra coverage. i usually don't powder (don't have enough time!) and in the afternoon if it's a warm day it may streak a little.
next i want to try almay's smooth skin or mary kay's medium coverage. (we're on a budget right now and i want to spend less than $15 for foundation) - I have tried higher end foundation samples (Georgio Armani, Lancome, MAC select 15+ etc) but don't feel the extra money is worth the difference the foundations make on my skin... well maybe when we're not on a budget anymore :)
I use Bare Minerals foundation. I have somewhat oily skin.
I would definitely recommend Bare Minerals. I absolutely love it!
I use MAC Studio Tech and MAC Select Tint. Generally the Studio Tech for fall, winter and night, Select tint for spring, summer and day. :p
I've used MAC in the past, but it was too clogging for my skin (major breakouts). Now, I've just started with Bare Escentuals. I've only used it a couple times, but I love how light it is, yet still covers up. Now I just need to find some quality brushes.

Another Bare minerals girl here! I have really fair skin, so drugstore brands don't cut it. I've tried MAC, but only fell in love with their blot powder. My forehead is only a touch oily.
The BM may seem expensive, but it lasts a really long time. I opened my jar in november and I still have about 75% left. I use this product every day--so I'd say that it's well worth the initial expense.

I don't use foundation for my face, but I do dab a bit on my undereye area. I use Cover Girl Clean Makeup.
I use MAC Studio Fix. I have oily skin so I use MAC Matte underneath to help control the shine.

I am using Prescriptives Virtual Skin (per a rec on WC), and I LOVE it. My face had started getting really oily, and this does help more than what I was using from Estee Lauder.
I have used Lancome Adaptive and liked it, but after a couple of years, it wasn't staying as well as I would have liked.

I use Loreal's Cashmere Perfect makeup. I really like it because it does stay on all day, but it is also easy to remove at night. And it's only about $10, super cheap!

I use Mary Kay's medium coverage. It goes on smooth and weightless. Plus the cost is really nice!

This is what I use now, and I love it. It really does stay in place all day. It doesn't rub off on clothes either.

I used to wear Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation, and liked it a lot. I just got tired of having to buy it so often.

I adore my foundation - MakeUp Forever. I buy it at Sephora and really like the coverage. I have combination skin and it does a good job of staying put.

Same as berry - Laura Mercier oil free foundation and when I need something with a little less coverage, I use her tinted moisturizer.
I have normal to oily skin.

I use L'Oreal Feel Naturale and love it. Very light and it works great for me.
I have normal skin - neither dry or oily.

I have combination skin, also. I have recently discovered L'Oreal Bare Naturale powdered mineral foundation. Its a powder and it's a one stop process--like a liquid and powder in one. I really love it. Someday I think it would be fun to try Bare Minerals, though.

I was a huge fan of MAC's Studio Fix for years, but for some reason it just wasn't staying put and was gone by the end of the day. I switched to Smashbox's cream-to-powder foundation, and I'm much happier.

Ditto!! I tried quite a few different brands of foundation (MAC, Laura Mercier, etc). MAC was way too clogging for my pores, and led to major breakouts for me too. I decided to try Bare Escentuals mineral makeup since I had heard such good things about it, and I am hooked. I have been using it for almost 2 yrs, and I won't try anything else!! :) I have oily skin btw.
i tried mineral makeup (not BE... everydayminerals) and it emphasizes my flakiness :( i think i'm prob better suited using liquid.

I have dry/sensitive skin and I don't like liquid foundation. I moisturize heavily, and then I use Stila pressed powder foundation. I like the coverage, and it doesn't seem to emphasize flakiness. The info that came with it indicates you can use it wet for heavier coverage, but I have not tried that.

I use Max Factor Pancake foundation. It's becoming very hard to find these days, though. I prefer it because it comes dry, and you wet a sponge to put it on, so I have more control over coverage. Also, it tends to dry skin out, and I have oily skin prone to breakouts, so it's double good for me. I cannot use any liquid foundation because for some reason they all seem to turn orange as the day progresses when it mixes with the oils in my skin.
In my purse, I carry a liquid-to-powder compact. Pressed powder just gets blotchy on my face. Right now it's Revelon. I haven't settled on a brand that I like best just yet, but the current one is very nice.

I use Shiseido Hydro-Liquid compact. It's a cake foundation, but goes on semi-wet--very creamy. I have pretty dry/sensitive skin, and this is the best I've used for my skin type.

ummm, i noticed this winter that my skin got pretty dry too, and in some spots it was quite flaky. but i usually put on moisturizer (neutrogena oil-free moisture with spf 15) before i put on my BM, and i never have a problem with looking flaky. it might just be your moisturizer. anyway, hth! :)

I use Elizabeth Arden creme makeup. I love the coverage and can use it as a concealer with ease if I don't want a full face on. However, with the full face, I definitely need finishing powder. It looks shiny by the end of the day. I've got combo skin.

I had been using Bare Minerals for a while, but it started making my face itch, even with regularly cleaning my brushes.
Lately I've been using Stila tinted moisturizer with Benefit Bluff Dust to set, but it doesn't last all day.
Thankfully, there's a Sephora opening soon in Des Moines, so hopefully I'll be able to go there and test out some different brands. I have *never* been able to find a foundation that:
1) covers well without looking overdone (I have a lot of redness and uneven skin tone),
2) lasts all day (it seems I'm an oil slick by the end of the day, and that's with blotting) and
3) doesn't irritate my skin.

Bump because I'm still looking for a good foundation. I went to Sephora a few weeks ago and tried a few. Got Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation ("http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P150747&categoryId=S10801&shouldPaginate=true) which looked fine in the store, but now looks completely wrong and heavy. I'm at a total loss and am beginning to feel I'll never find a good foundation.
i'm using neturogena skin enhancer (or something like that) right now. it has a pump, plastic bottle. it's more like a tinted moisturizer but i like the texture, not too watery and quite creamy. coverage is okay, prob less than medium.

Bumping this up -- I still rarely wear foundation, but I'm looking for one of those foundation sticks or something similar. Anyone have any recommendations?

I use the Shiesido stick foundation and I like it a lot. I can put it on directly from the tube, with my fingers, or a foundation brush depending on the level of coverage I want. I it has a very creamy consistency even though it sets quite well. (Compared to others I tried that were much drier and difficult to spread.) HTH!
