DS has a bad head cold. DH took him to the ped today and she said to use a humidifier (already do that) and to elevate his crib mattress on the one side. I asked him how she said to do that and he said he didn't ask - he thought I would know. Of course, I don't. So, how would you do this? Wouldn't DS slide to the bottom of the crib?
While I'm at it, do you have any tips for helping to get DS over this head cold? The ped didn't give him any meds since his ears, throat and chest were clear. Basically he's just a sniffling, coughing mess.

you can elevate the mattress by putting a sturdy pillow underneath the matttress on one end...that's how i've seen our daycare do it. you don't need to elevate it that high..maybe about 6-8 inches?
DD has had the same head cold off and on for the past 6 months...it's b/c she's in daycare and someone's always sick in there. there's really not much that you can do, but continue with the humidifier. i also use the baby vicks on DD (rubbing it on her chest and back), not sure if it's making a difference, but the scent is soothing and calming. also, i've heard that the sniffles can also be a sign of teething?
good luck and i hope your DS gets better soon!

Hmmm... teething. I hadn't thought of that. DS is 4 months old and my mother SWEARS he is starting to teeth. The ped didn't say anything about that though. He's got the runny poops etc. and that's why my mom thinks he's started teething.
Anyhoo - thanks for the baby Vicks tip... so sorry that your kiddo has been battling a cold for so long - hope she feels better too!

Just an addition - when DS had a bad cold a few weeks ago - we had the humidifier running in there, but we were also told to put a sheet over the top of the crib (we only did it over maybe 3/4 of the top of the crib, with the slats open, etc, so that the mist would concentrate around him at night. It really helped. Let me know how it goes with elevating the mattress. I think I elevated mine too much when we had to mess with it - DS did end up at the bottom of the crib, diagonally. LOL

if you can't figure out how to elevate the mattress you can always let him sleep in his carseat! that's what we did

We rolled up a bath towel and put it under one side of the crib and then placed her about 3/4 of the way up. It seemed to keep her from getting an ear ache.

I stuck 2 phone books (one next to the other) under the mattress at the top of the crib.

Hey there, Sebski!
Matthew is dealing with a wicked cold right now too. We put a bath towel under his mattress. When it gets really bad we just bring him in bed with us and put his head up on our pillow so he is elevated. He isn't even close to rolling yet so it is a non-issue and he sleeps soooo much better with us. Hope your little one gets better soon!
