I posted in the 1st birthday thread and searched here, but I am hoping all of you chefs can help me out.

I am doing a pink and green 1st birthday party for my DD. So far we are serving cupcakes (white, pink & green frosting), M&Ms (easter package), hot dogs (pink?), Smartfood, veggie platter (brocoli, cauliflower, cucumbers), soda (sprite, raspberry gingerale, fresca), but would love some other ideas.

Our guests will range in age from 6 months to 65 years old, so any suggestions will be great appreciated! :)

Thanks in advance.

Pink: Ham, strawberry cream, salmon

White: cauliflower, mashed potatoes, rice

Green: spinach, pesto sauce, peas

You could also do pinwheel sandwiches to go with your theme, since cold cuts are pink!

looch~ thanks for the input! You got me thinking about combining some of those...

Sandwich Wraps - Ham, romaine lettuce, white cheese- bite size, cut side up.

Rice/Orzo Salad~ with peas and maybe HAM if I can use something else for the wraps...

Salmon- yum, I'll take it any way. :)

My mom used to make a yummy punch for parties all the time. I believe it was just 7-up and a carton of raspberry serbert (in a really large punch bowl). There's no real recipe you can just do it to taste and it will taste good regardless of the proportions. It get pink and frothy.

You could do something with procuitto and peas, that's a yummy combination.

I would probably wander the grocery store and look for ideas. Sometimes I do a lot of wandering the grocery store.

For any of the wraps or sandwiches, use cream cheese and add a wee bit of food coloring to make the cheese either pink or green.

I've never done this, but if you are having egg salad sandwiches, try adding some food coloring to the mayo - you'd have green eggs! (NOT sure how that would go over though - so just throwing ideas out there!)

My DH makes a similar punch all the time. Only his is made with champagne, although I'm sure you could do it without.

Anyway, his reciepe is 3 bottles of champagne, 1-2 liter of ginger ale, raspberry sherbert. You can add more sherbert as it melts. It is so yummy. You could also add lime sherbert and the froth would be both pink & green. We had the pink & green punch for my bridal shower. Everyone loved it.

Again, you have kids so maybe you could do one of each. Pink for the kids and then green for the adults. Just a thought.

Can I just say how much I appreciate your input ladies! I love this place. :D

jenjunum, how could I forget about that punch?! It is the staple at so many parties and I never think to make it when I host an event. Thanks for reminding me. :) I will definitely serve it. Now to find a punch bowl...

SunnyAB~ you are so funny! Green eggs. :p I love egg salad, so I may serve it if I am in the mood, but my crowd is not big on it... Cool idea about the food coloring. We have lots of red left over from the holidays, to make PINK of course! :D

Chris~n~Jen~ pink for the kids and green for the adults?! What a smashing idea! You are brilliant. :) Yummy, too. That punch is such a standard, yet I always forget to make it. Oh, now I want some NOW. ;)

I just had a spinach wrap today for lunch and it was green. If you make any kind of wrap you should buy the spinach flavor. It actually didn't taste like spinach at all though, just a regular tortilla.

I want some of that punch too. It was on my mind because I just bought a pint of Haagen Daz raspberry sorbet. I should have picked up some 7-up too darnit.

Sounds so yummy Jen! I was looking yesterday at the market but came up short for the wraps. I will look again because that sounds really good. You are making me want to prepare that punch now!

Instead of punch bowls, I bought green beer pitchers from the $1 section at Target. We may only have KIDS punch and then plain, chilled champagne for the adults. The party starts at 1PM, so I know most of our guests will think it is too early for drinking. I disagree. ;) :p

I bought the Easter M&Ms yesterday at our market in the bulk section. I tried only getting pink and green and DH started teasing me because I was picking through the container with the scoop, (not with my hands!), taking forever. I ended up getting all the colors.

I think my theme is fading quickly. DH is insisting on including carrots and tomatoes in the veggie platter. :p and pretzels instead of Smartfood... Ay, yi yi! :p

* How about some sort of pasta dish using spinash pasta and a light salmon-cream sauce?

* Green salad with radish roses as garnish

* Buy some inexpensive pink serving dishes to play up the pink part of the theme, as it might be more difficult to incorporate into the food than the green part of the theme (which is easily doable w/veggies).

granted strawberries are more red on the outside, they are pink when sliced... how about a spinach salad?

easy schmeasy spinach salad

two packages of fresh spinach leaves (green)

one package of feta cheese (white)

one pack of fresh strawberries (pink)

one package of honey glazed nuts (walnuts, i think)

3/4 jar of girard's rasberry salad dressing (more pink)

instructions: crumbe feta, slice strawberries and toss everything together... yum!

You've got some great suggestions already! I just wanted to add (although I'm sure you already know) I'd also keep some traditional things...like pasta salad, chips, dip, ect... Because lets face it - how many kids actually like green foods like veggies?..lol I'm sure some do (I did) but there will probably be a lot of kids that will be looking for regular party type foods.

I like the idea of the "adults punch"..lol...and I think it's fine to serve it at 1pm! :D

You could make a cake like this w/ pink and green, bettycroker.com has the pan:

What about a caprese salad for the older guests?

sue-bert, radish roses?! So cute! Wanna come over and make them for me? :p I am hopeless when it comes to something like that, but it sounds so adorable. I am using pink linens as well as lots of pink decorations, DH would kill me if I bought MORE serving dishes as I barely use the ones we already have. :o

clammyinsf~ that salad sounds so good! you are making me hungry. I am hosting an informal lunch/playgroup tomorrow in semi-honor of DD's birthday, so I may be preparing that!!! Although, I will be adding chicken breast, but that is white when cooked- no pink chicken. ;)

ManteoChik~ I agree on the drinking at 1PM. I will ask a few friends if they will imbibe with me because I would never want alcohol to go to waste. :p The punch sounds so delish. I do plan to include chips/dip and also pasta salad. The pasta will be orzo, so I am going to add green peas and diced ham - I am determined to keep my theme (sorta) happening. Maybe I can get those organic chips that are pink/red in color, I forget the name but they also make sweet potato and yam chips... Do you know what I mean?

alienhost~ I want a slice of that cake NOW! Yummy. :p We ordered cupcakes to save us the time of making/decorating cake. Thanks for the suggestion! So pretty and looks so good.

gokatgo~ my DH will be eternally grateful to you!!! That is his favorite, I can't believe I never thought of that. der. ;) Our market has the best fresh mozzarella, too.
