I was just diagnosed this morning with influenza (not sure which strain as the dr felt confident enough to not run the test). I didn't get a flu shot, which was stupid of me. I work in one of the most germ infested places on the planet-- a school. The good news is that DS got a flu shot a month ago, but I'm still worried about him catching it.

So, as I sit here feeling like I've been hit by a truck and praying the Tamiflu works soon, I'm wondering... anyone else have Influenza too?

I don't have it, but I did once, in grade 7 (after that I got a flu shot every year until about 2 years ago). I can definitely sympathize with you. I had horribly achy muscles, and felt like crap for quite a while. And because of my age, I had to be quarantined so I wouldn't give it to any of my friends; I wasn't allowed to leave the house, except to go to the doctor. And it took me a long time to recover (I was sick a lot for the few months after that).

I wouldn't be too worried about your son getting it-a month is plenty of time for the vaccine to start working.

Hope you feel better soon!

I'm really sorry you are sick!! The flu is awful. Our DS just got over it...he spiked a fever of 105 the first day and I flipped out!! How DH and I never got it is nothing short of a miracle...no one in the family got the flu shot...

Big hugs and get well wishes to you!!

myshel, you're not alone. I got a flu shot this year--and yet I still have the flu. What crap! It's a conspiracy I tell you! ;) In 2003 the same thing happened, got the shot, still got the flu. I can deal with the puking, I can deal with the aches, the fever isn't so bad.... but please, could my head stop feeling like it is going to explode?!

Thanks for the sympathy everyone (and I hope you're feeling betterSingleWhiteFemale). I'm feeling a lot better today. The tamiflu has made a huge difference. The fever isn't sky high. My biggest issue now is whether or not I should go to school tomorrow. I've slept a lot of the day today and I'm worried that I'll need an additional day of rest. The doc mentioned only being contagious for two days once the Tamiflu is taken. Hmm... what to do?
