QOTD - u/s
I don't think a 3rd trimester u/s is standard. In fact, you don't really want one - they usually seem to find something wrong (at least that's been my experience!) and they only do one if they are concerned about something.

Standrea - that's great about the end of bedrest!

Hi Ladies!

Caro Great that Chloe is coming home! So much hair!

Standrea Yeah being off bedrest! Just take it easy.

Smiles Cool that maternity leave has started for ya!

Groin Pain still have the occasional feeling like someone kicked me between the legs. Doesnt last long thank goodness!

U/S I've had one at every appointment since the 9th week- a total of 7. I've pictures from 4 scans that I've put into the baby book.

ok lets see if this works:

35 week belly shot

I'll have to get the nursery pics somehow rotated to post them up.

U/S- With my DD I had 2. One at about 12 weeks and one at about 20 weeks. I think that is pretty average- I actually know a lot of people that only have the 20 week one. My Dr "estimated" her weight by measurement and feel. Of course he said, "no bigger than 7 lbs" She was 8lbs 11oz! But, it really is a good thing that you don't need the extra u/s- like shortcake said it's usually only done if they suspect a problem. As far as placenta previa- it would have shown up on your 20 week u/s because placentas move upward as your pregnancy progresses. So, if it was not low at 20 weeks it will not be low now.

This time around I have had about 8 u/s. But, that is because of the placenta previa, the early bleeding/spotting, my gestational diabetes (growth scans to make sure the baby is not too big) and my "advanced maternal age". So, really be glad that you don't need additional u/s.:p

Utlra Sounds I've had a bunch but I don't think that's standard. Most people I know of that have a healthy pregnancy don't have an ultrasound after the "Big" one. I've had 2 since the Big U/S just because I've been measuring so big. Oh, and I had another one that I did on my own because I wanted the 3-D pictures.

Question What does sciatica feel like? I saw someone mention butt pain and thought maybe I have sciatica. The last two days I've been getting a sharp pain down my buttocks when I walk. It's not constant, just a few times, but would that be sciatica? That's the only spot I feel it but it stops me in my tracks.

Mrs U

Fats Sciatica for me starts in the lower back and the pain shoots down one leg. I have a way to realive it, but unfortunately with the belly in the way it doesnt quite work now.

Ok Nursery Pics! Our nursery is multi- purpose (closet/guest room/ baby's room) and rather small like the rest of our apartment (not even a full 70 m2)

fats - Yep! Sounds like sciatica to me. I get the pain in my buttocks and it radiates down the back of my leg and up to my back sometimes. It definitely always stops me in my tracks!

Mrs. U-the room looks great!! I love your crib!!

fats-(for some reason, i always feel so guilty typing that)...I think its your sciatica. Especially if its going down to a leg...the only relief I found was going to the chiropractor. It was REALLY bad during my first trimester.

U/S-I'm pretty sure I'm around 9 or 10. definately not normal, but I had at least 3 before the BIG ultra sound, then the big 1, one a few days later (she was in an odd position and they couldnt see the back of her neck, Then I have had 3 for my cervix (hence the bedrest), and I'll probably have 1 more in the next week or 2.

Bloomwood
04-20-2006, 12:01 PM
I'm so deflated today. I went to my dr's appt. no progress from last week. I am holidng steady at 1 cm and 30% effaced. My cervix is "soft." She said she expects to see me at my next appt (39 w) and the one after that (40w). :(

Mrs U - you are cute! and so is the nursery.

no groin pain here.

u/s - I had a couple of vaginal at my first appts and then the 13w NT u/s and the 20w u/s. Also had one at 25w to check the bright spot on the heart. I thought about requesting another one to check the heart thing, but the dr. was so confident about it being okay that I decided just to get over my paranoia.

Hope you're all doing well and there is some dilation happening somewhere in the group.

Also, anxious to hear from Guinness and Kristen on their babies!

AttyGrl74
04-20-2006, 02:03 PM
I've had like 80 u/s this time - but only had 3 or 4 with Nora - and really only 1 was standard (they couldn't see all 4 valves of her heart and I had a placetnta previa so I got bonus ones).

This time, I had an abruption so I was going in every 2 weeks at the beginning and now #2 is measuring small, so I've been going in every 2 weeks since 32 weeks!

Baby falling out With Nora being little, I do a lot of squatting down and lately it just feels like #2 is just going to fall right out. No one else seems to think that's funny - but I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about!

ga girl
04-20-2006, 02:04 PM
Ultrasounds- I've 9 this pg but that's only b/c I've had previous m/c. It seems most ppl only have 1 or 2 and not in the 3rd trimester.

Fats- That sounds like sciatica pain, I've had it off and on throughout the pg and it starts just like that. It eases up when he moves from that area but I feel your pain!

I just returned from my 36 week appt and the dr is estimating the baby's weight at 7.5 lbs! she said she really thinks it's 8 but to be conservative she'll say 7.5 so they did an internal (ouch) and I'm 80% effaced and 1 cm dilated. She said at my 38 week they'll talk about inducing if he keeps growing at this rate but that in her personal opinion I'll most likely only last another 2-3 weeks at the most. Dh was so disappointed, he really thought the baby would be late...he's getting so nervous and wanted that 4 week cushion . I'm feeling the pressure now- we don't even have a name!

Hope everyone is doing well, things should start picking up soon!

Typing one handed to announce the arrival of our little boy!

Ethan Eric was born at 6:22 PM on April 17th. He weighed 7lbs 7oz and was 20.25 inches long. He has dark hair and the cutest, most smoochable cheeks ever!

There's a pretty terrible picture online at www.baylorhealth.com/locations/grapevine. Click on Baylor Babies on the left hand side.

Will post later with more details....baby's hungry!!! :)

Congrats Kristin and welcome little Ethan!!!

Ugh, I've been having back cramps consistently since this afternoon. I always get back cramps with my period, never front cramps, and these feel the same. I've been laying on the couch with a heating pad since I got home from work.

So, does it hurt to have an internal exam? I have the option of having one at my next appt, and I think I want one so I can find out what's going on down there...but I'm nervous that it will hurt.

I had my 3rd shower last night, thrown by my co-workers. Again, people's generosity blows my mind. But, I have to say...this baby doesn't need any more clothes!!! I plan to start washing his things this weekend.

Congrats Kristen and Welcome Ethan!
He's too cute with the hat and facial expression!

Em I'm in the same boat as you with the back cramps. Warm baths seem to help me.

Good news! P has a job interview this afternoon for a permanent painter's position not too far away. Currently he works through a temp agency. Let's just say it's a good thing that he at least has an interview- permanent painter jobs are offered 1-2x's in a year- so there must have been well over 150 applicants. **fingers crossed all!**

Ok enough procratination. I need to clean the house and start up with dinner prep (even though it's 8am) for our dinner party with a couple from our child birthing class.

Have a great Friday!

Congrats Kristen!!! Love the name Ethan and he's adorable!!

So, does it hurt to have an internal exam? Obviously, I can't answer this since it's my first baby, but I've heard the same thing - that it hurts. Still, I figure nothing can hurt as much as labor and delivery, so I can't wait to start having internals and find out what he's doing in there!

Not much going on with me. I'm excited that I have only 1 more week left of work. Tonight Eco and I are taking our Newborn Care class and then on Sunday we have Breastfeeding 101. I'm really looking forward to that because I feel like I know NOTHING. I've been reading a great book on BF called So That's What They're For but I really want to be as prepared as possible.

I'm anxiously awaiting my next doctor's appointment because I want to talk to her about induction given the size of the baby. I'm really afraid she'll just say, "Let's wait and see" since I'll only be 36 weeks at that appointment and I know they won't do anything (induction or schedule a c/s) until at least 37, but I'd still like to get her opinion on what the likelihood is. I really feel like I can't walk around like this much longer. I want to get this party started already!

Congratulations Kristin!

U/S - 3, 2 in the beginning due to early bleeding and the 20w u/s. Had more with DD due to complications (couldn't find h/b, etc).

Internals - I wouldn't say mine were painful (even when they stripped my membranes....twice). But, very uncomfortable.

Congratulations Kristin he's adorable!!

internals I agree with Marchfamily, I wouldn't say they're painful but quite uncomfortable. I'd say they hurt more than a regular pap exam. At least they're over pretty quick though.

Mrs UCrossing my fingers P gets the job. Good luck!

I agree with the ROs who say that it's not that it hurts, but it is definitely very uncomfortable. I'm actually looking forward to my first internal with this one because I want to know if there's anything going on down there.

04-21-2006, 06:38 AM
I had my first one a few weeks ago, and it was very uncomfortable, but I think it was because of the pressure from her examining my cervix...It wasn't unbareable though!! and it was quick, and when it was over, it was over!!

04-21-2006, 06:55 AM
P.S. Re - Internals - I had spotting after each of my internals. In fact, after they stripped my membranes (maybe the second time), I lost my mucus plug the next morning.....not that I went into labor for another 8 days (had DD 10 days later).

We are doing well - feeding great waiting for my milk to come in. I am sore from the c-section, but glad to be home. Will catch up later.

Congratulations to Kristin and Guinness! What beautiful little boys :)

Internal's. I've had two so far and they didn't nother me at all. Maybe its because I'm still all closed up?!

Bloomwood
04-21-2006, 10:13 AM
internals - I've had 3 so far. One at 29 weeks. That one flat out hurt, largely because I just had no idea what to expect. The two I've had most recently, last Friday and yesterday, were not comfortable and didn't feel great, but as a pp said, when they're done, they're done. There is no residual pain.

In general though, if you aren't really sure you want one, IMO feel free to skip it. Everything I've read says they don't really mean anything any way. You could be closed up and still go into labor the next day. I'm too obsessive to not have one, but going from good news of 1 cm dilated one week to no additional progress the next week bummed me out. And, I know it doesn't mean I still won't go into labor at any time!

Sorry, long answer to a quick question!

Congratulations to Kristin and Guinness! Welcome to the precious boys!

Had another appt today, really nothing to report, bp is still good, which is a plus since at this point with DS it was rather high. He took the sample for the strep test, but didn't do an internal. He asked if I thought I needed one if I was feeling any progress, but I opted not to have it. No real sense at this point, the c/s is still on for may 4th.

Good luck to everyone, I expect more babies soon!

Sounds like Guinness and I will have pretty identical birth stories! I, too, had a failed induction followed by a C-section. I have to say, though, that C-sections aren't all that bad in my book. I'm still sore, but it's definitely workable.

internals I had them starting at 35 weeks and ending at my 38 week appointment that still showed no progress.

Still following along with you ladies and looking forward to see all the new ones arrive!

HUGE congratulations Crazycaro, Kristin and Guinness! A big welcome to Chloe, Ethan and Elliot! I'm so proud of you and your little babes are BEAUTIFUL! I can't wait to see more posts from you. Here's continued wonderful pregnancy/labor vibes to the rest of the May mommies!

On my end, Keegan is home! As of yesterday he weighs a beautiful 8 POUNDS even now. That's so far from his birth weight! Here's a post from my LJ today:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess Who's Home?
It seems like forever since this whole experience started at the beginning of March but I am happy to report that Baby K came home last week. It is hard to imagine as I ooh and aah over him that his actual anticipated birth date still has not arrived. Unbelievable. Such a dog and pony show and just not enough words. I am ready to come out of hiding though. The shower that was held at our home killed me and I assume only those that really understand me, get it. These 7 weeks were a roller coaster ride I hope to never have a ticket to again. I admit with a great amount of frustration the necessary isolation I needed to medicate myself with. I pulled away from everyone but a select few, and even then kept that contact quite limited. Last night was the first time I actually reconnected with a handful of girlfriends and I surprised myself with getting things off my chest. I have a knack for keeping a safe distance from my emotions and when B grabbed a hold of me and softly said to my face, "I am proud of you" I so lost it.

When I walked in the door last night to hug my husband and baby from my very first alone time since this started, I actually grinned. And from here it only begins to be better. Keeg's came home weighing an awesome 7lbs 3oz but still too gangly for his coming home outfit. I am DYING to put this on him after he fills out a bit more for a comparison.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/TheWickedWench/Keegan/goinghome041006.jpg

And of yesterday, he successfully hit 8lbs - we are quickly moving towards doubling his birth weight! Here he is enjoying his second bath at home. My inherited babushka cheeks have obviously found their way to the next generation. I adore this picture more than you can know, he looks like a full-term newborn rather than a premie. Although the sweet pudgy is more positional than actual, we'll take it! Okay, going down for a quick nap before it is time to feed again.

Hi there,
I'm sorry to jump back in after months MIA. I couldn't keep up there! But I had been thinking about you guys and hoping everyone was doing ok. I am now on maternity leave and *loving* it and have been silently lurking and catching up over the last week or so.

First--CONGRATS TO OUR FOUR NEW MOMMIES and your beautiful babies! I am so happy for you!!!

Unlike most of you it appears, I'm in no hurry to deliver early. Am I alone in this??? Granted, I don't want to go late either. But I am honestly nervous and scared and am enjoying the denial period!

Here are some (sort of) QOTD responses:

Weight Gain I have gained 50 pounds. Am I the grand prize winner? It's really hard to imagine. Fortunately, I either don't look like I did, or everyone happily lies to me which works too. You can see my progression on the Belly Shots thread p. 22 (along with Nettreefrog and AttyGirl's great shots!) http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=17091&page=22

Internals My health providers don't offer them until you are at least 40 weeks, so if I make it to May 1 they will do one. I'm still just doing the basic BP and urine 5 minute checks, and they only starting seeing me more than once a month very recently.

General Discomforts I've been very lucky so far (knocking on wood) and my major complaints in these last few weeks have been hip pain when I'm trying to sleep (both sides) and a weird pain in my left knee that almost feels like it's going to blow out (perhaps see weight gain above?). I'm also periodically getting quick shooting pains "down there"--on both sides actually. Not sure what that's all about, but I'm assuming it's normal.

Misc. Preparation I have my bags practically packed. I've met with our doula and drafted a short birth plan. I've washed a good chunk of baby clothes/blankets. I made four birth mix CDs to hopefully help me (again, LOVE being on maternity leave!--would never have had the time). What I haven't done is create a "labor space" in the house per my doula's suggestion or really done a whole heck of a lot of reading about childbirth, newborns, or bf because every time I start I freak out and have to stop!

Anyway, sorry for the book here... I'm just so excited to be caught up!

I do have an off-topic question for those of you who struggled with PCOS--I saw references throughout the thread to a few of you who have/had this. Two of my closest friends sadly and coincidentally, who both started TTC when I did, have just been diagnosed. However, seeing you here PG means you've had success!! So if any of you who have it could take a minute and PM me with any tips, advice, best resources, etc. that I could pass on, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Hope you are all having a relaaaaaaxxxing weekend! We are off to try one of those "dream dinner" places where you make a bunch of meals (they set out all the ingredients) and then freeze them.

Spellbound, I love that cute little outfit you put Keegan in! He looks adorable!

So I'm feeling a bit drained right now. The past few days since I stopped working Wed. night have been packed with errands and tasks--had both cars serviced, returned some 0-3 month baby shower clothing, saw my doctor and had my first internal exam (still closed tightly but my cervix is softening), got the hospital tour, and went to a local mothers' club baby gear sale (picked up lots of great stuff--a gymini, some pastel blue shelving, board books, a cute white wooden garbage can with a star/moon theme that matches the nursery, and a stuffed horse head on a broomstick--which I always wanted when I was a kid!). Whew!

I also got some more shots from the belly shot session I had back when I was 32 weeks along that I wanted to share here! I didn't like the shots with my face because of the double chin, so these were among my favorites:

Welcome home Keegan!

Great photos Smiles!

New QOTD: Do you sense any change in your body that would indicate that your baby is coming? [and] What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come?

I feel more pulls in my groin, and I feel slower. We have tried DOTD (not that fun now), walking, "spicy food" (but really my tolerance for spicy is quite high --so nothing really felt that spicy), and I just bought a huge pineapple (but I have been eating a lot of pineapple lately that has done nothing). Then, my DH has been trying to talk to Gabriel --and ask him nicely to come out and join us.

Smiles: Great shots! I especially like the middle one.

Smiles Those are great pictures-I love the little booties. You really scored on all those baby items.

I won't be encouraging anything until my mom is here. So come May 5th I will be taking long walks, eating pineapple and spicy foods and DTD. DH said he feels used but I'm sure he'll get over it quick.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. As soon as I eat my lunch I'm off for a nap!!

We had a hospital run this afternoon. I woke up again in full joint pain and this time my neck/face was starting to swell. Went to see the midwife on duty and she checked me out. Nothing wrong with my BP, baby D's heartbeat (nor his ability to hiccup!) and had only a little bit of protien in the urine which was nothing to worry over. Just need to call my OB/GYN tomorrow in regards to the bloodtest results.

What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come?
Started the eviction's tea today that I got from the midwife. Other than that nothing too out of the norm.

Hope ya'll are having a good Sunday.

Do you sense any change in your body that would indicate that your baby is coming? [and] What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come?

Sadly, I don't feel anything more like she is getting ready to come out. I do think she has dropped even lower and I think I can feel little hands (?) dancing around way low in my pelvis. I have been eating spicy food (also have a high tolerance), walking, eating pineapple and I think tonight we are going to DTD. I also picked up an exercise ball and have been bouncing on that and drinking raspberry tea (not at the same time ;) ). I think both of those are more for labor than induction.

I am starting to feel those groin/pelvis sensations you guys were mentioning a few pages back.

Mrs U - glad you are ok!!

Smiles - beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Ladies...I just saved us from the bottom of page 2!!

Since I was 35 weeks yesterday!! :D I decided to take a little "field trip" to the mall...i am still on the look for an outfit for my shower this weekend...I'm getting very excited. I've been registry stalking like crazy, and my BF called to tell me that almost everything is gone (well the big stuff besides the crib set and high chair)!! I'm very excited about this!!!

We had lamaze last night. We practiced pushing...wow what alot of work! I'm so sore today from it...i dont know if it was because i had to hold my own legs up, or because my jeans were digging into my tailbone, but i was hurting!! Being on bedrest for 3 weeks really took alot out of me...i need to start yoga again asap!!

I hope everyone is doing well, and that those that started the eviction process are getting some progress!!

Spellbound Baby K is absolutely adorable. So, so happy to hear he's home now :). I really like his coming home outfit too.

QOTD: Do you sense any change in your body that would indicate that your baby is coming? [and] What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come? I'm not going to do anything yet, but if the baby isn't here by my due date then I guess I'll start some of the things that you all have suggested.

We're so NOT ready to bring a baby home with us yet, so I'd rather it stay in there for a few more weeks. Our first birthing/lamaze class is this Wednesday. Luckily, the class is finished by next Thursday so I don't think we'll be missing any class time. And I'm really hoping that DH will be finished with most of the baby's room so I can put things away.

Smiles, I think your belly shots are gorgeous. Love the sweater.

Lolly, Standrea, & flyerwife - me too!! We won't have a crib till DD outgrows hers or we get desperate and have to buy/borrow another one (she's 3 in November so it's a toss up) so we'll be using a pack n play for a while. We still have pictures we need to hang on the wall, and I want to get some kind of shelves to put diaper changing supplies on over the changing table. We are getting closer though - at least we have a dresser now so I can put stuff away!

Smiles Love the belly shots!

Thanks to the ladies who PM'd me about PCOS, I know my friends appreciate the info (and just knowing that there are success stories)!

QOTD: Do you sense any change in your body that would indicate that your baby is coming? [and] What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come?
I've been feeling on/off mildly nauseous and have had to use the bathroom (not exactly diarrhea not exactly normal, sorry for TMI) like 5 times already today. I don't know if these are symptoms or I'm just have a weak stomach day! I'm not sure if I've dropped or am just bigger all around, but I feel like my lap is supporting the full weight of belly at this point as I sit here. I won't be doing anything to encourage labor until I go beyond 40 weeks, in which case my doula gave me a whole list 'o things to try.

I have a light QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close? My friend who had an unplanned c/s actually advised me to go wax it all off because that's where the incision goes and it's worse afterward from them shaving it. While I did do a bikini wax in January before going to Hawaii, I just don't think I can be bothered with my bikini line--much less a more "thorough" job--right now. (Out of MY sight, out of mind??) I did have my (lower) legs waxed about a month ago and fortunately that seems to be holding strong 'cause there's no way I can shave anymore. I know with all of the random gross stuff that will be flying out of me it doesn't (shouldn't) matter if I'm hairy or my toes aren't painted, etc., but it's still crossed my mind!!

Tomorrow morning is my next appointment with the OB. We'll see what he says about my groin pain, slowing down, extra leakage (sorry if that is TMI), etc. I just want him to say that I am dialating --is that too much to ask? Gabriel is still his active self too...

Yesterday, my DH's coworker dropped off the cosleeper --and we set it up. This is what it looks like:
http://www.armsreach.com/images/products/universal_intro.jpg

Today, I picked up a diaper bag that is acceptable for use by my DH--the Kecci Adventure bag (http://www.kecci.com/cgi-bin/TLSstore.cgi?user_action=link&dimgsrc=D20200-1/D20200-1-dt.jpg&link=detailmore&kvar=D20200-1)

QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close?

Yep - got waxed last week. I hadn't had it done in a while and let me just say - OUCH!! It hurt! I am really swollen down there from all the fluid (I imagine we all are at this point) and it just made it extra sensitive. I told her I would come back and tell her if it was worse than childbirth. :p I fully admit it was vanity. I also had a mani/pedi a couple of weeks ago. I am generally too hard on my hands so I always get clear polish, this time they just buffed them. My toesies are nice and painted though. This wasn't motivated by the baby, however, I treated a friend for her bday.

Thankfully I am still able to shave my legs without a problem.

Sneezy and others - I'd love to hear what your doula's recommend to help induce labor. I know sex and EPO and that some rec. castor oil. what else?

We have been encouraging the baby by talking to her. I had DH give her a "talking to" last night in hopes she'll listen to her dad. Today I was even more to the point and told her I wanted to feel contractions or my water breaking. All I got was a foot jabbing out at me.

I do feel like she is even lower these days. I feel her way down there now. Hopefully there'll be good news at my appt on Thursday.

I am so over strangers commenting on my belly.
"oh, you're large for your first."
"that's going to be a big baby"
"hope you go soon, you're big"

I am 5'4", I had 22% body fat going in. I have gained 30 lbs, some of that is other places, but it is mainly concentrated in my belly. I don't look any different from the back. I can't help that I am carrying all in front or that this baby is healthy. but these comments make me really self conscious and get me really scared that I am trying for a ncb with a 12 pounder!

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

Sneezy - I am glad you got some good info on PCOS. My sister was just diagnosed with it, but she isn't trying to get pg right now so I don't have anything to add.

Body changes - I am only 36 weeks so not hoping for baby to make an early appearance - but I do feel like things are still progressing along. More contractions, etc.

Grooming - I thought about shaving for my c-section. No way am I waxing though, ouch! I will ask my doctor if that is a good idea - I have heard others say that they don't want the patient to shave for fear of infection (they use sterile razors) but I have also heard that they do it dry and it is really awful coming back in! If I wasn't planning on a c-section I doubt I'd shave (didn't last time) as someone else said - out of my sight out of my mind!

Grooming-I have been shaving twice a week (usually sunday and wednesday) for a couple of months now, JUST INCASE...my legs though, that's a different story...its really hard for me to bend over in the shower to shave them...I have only gained a belly (according to everyone) and with it hanging down, its horrible...May i suggest the Venus razor to everyone...you can atleast skip a step!! Anyway, DH said he would help me if i wanted it...i'm very close to trying to take him up on it.

Anyhow...i COULD NOT get waxed!! I just had my eyebrows waxed yesterday and OUCH!! It's never hurt before...I can only imagine what it feels like otherwise!

I would also love to know the natural induction procedures that have been told to you! I have seen that castor oil is a bad idea, but other then that, i really dont know much about anything...

I had my pg portraits taken this afternoon, and it was so fun! We did some with just me, and then some with DH. Our photographer downloaded them while we waited, so we could watch the slideshow of the proofs in her studio. For the most part, they turned out really well. They should be available online later this week, so I'll make sure to post the link.

QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close? Good question...I can still shave my legs with relative ease (but lots of stopping to catch my breath, lol), so I'll continue doing that as long as I can. Shaving my bikini area was out about a month or so ago...I tried one final time and it was like Edward Scissorhands took care of me - not pretty. What is even less pretty is the lack of, ahem, maintenance that has taken place ever since (sorry if TMI!). I was thinking about getting a bikini wax before my due date...I have a spa pedicure date scheduled with my mom a week before my due date, so that should take care of my toes...It really doesn't matter much considering what will be seen and what I'll be going through in the delivery room, but whatever little things I can do to help myself feel better, I plan to do!!

Body Changes: I am already wanting to start things to move this kid along...I'll be 36w on this Wednesday, so I plan to start talking to him to "encourage" him to come out and meet us. As for body changes, my entire body is just so sore these days. My groin area is killing me again, as are my hips. More BH contractions too, and they last for a much longer time. They could be signs, but they could mean nothing, right?

Pads: I'm not a RO, but I bought two packs of Always pads. The extra long kind. Both are for heavy flow, but one pack is thin and the other is regular. I'm guessing it's just a matter of personal preference re: brand, as long as they're long enough and absorbant enough...?

I realized today that I still have three LONG weeks left of work. I honestly don't know if I'm going to make it. But, my co-worker is taking off the week before I leave (on purpose, to get it done before I leave), so I can't really stop working while she's gone. I just may have to talk to my midwife at my next appointment about reducing my hours.

QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close? Funny this was brought up, I was just thinking about this very thing the other day esp. after dh said to me "um, are you going to do something about all of that down there".....very brave man. It's like what was said- I can't see it so I don't worry about it! I'm having a lot of trouble shaving my legs but I at least want to keep that part up just in case I go at any time. I can't do the waxing, the thought of it pains me. I think I might do the pedi though- just for me :)

QOTD: Do you sense any change in your body that would indicate that your baby is coming? [and] What are you doing to "encourage" him/her to come?
Sneezy-I'm having the exact same symptoms as you, they've been going on for more than a week so I don't know what they mean.
The only thing I plan to do is dine at a restaurant that's been written up in several magazines and happens to be 5 minutes from my house ( what luck!) about the ability of their eggplant parm to induce labor- I love Italian food so I'll give it a try.

Does anyone else feel like the baby has slowed down lately? The dr estimated his weight at 7.5 lbs last week (something I'm REALLY hoping she's wrong about) so I know he doesn't have a lot of room to move but I only feel him turn or move in general once every 3-4 hours.

QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close? I was thinking about getting a wax but honestly I think it would hurt too much at this point. I do still shave down there and it still turns out OK, although uneven, lol! I can still shave my legs, its just a little harder. I also plan on getting another pedicure and getting my hair trimmed. I need a trim anyway, and I figure I better do it now because otherwise I don't know when it would get done after the baby gets here.

Pads, haven't bought any yet buy I think I'll get what Em bought. Oh and I need to go buy some bigger underwear. All I have worn for the past 12 years are thongs, so I don't have any regular underwear.

Actually I think I'll go out this weekend and buy the things I'll need for the hospital bag and for right afterwards: big underwear, pads, nursing bras and tanks, new pair of pajamas, etc.

Had my Dr. appt today but didn't get an internal. It wasn't with my normal Dr. so I had the option but decided not to bother. I figure it really doesn't make to much of a difference plus I don't want to stress out if I don't have to.
Dr. did feel my belly and said his head hasn't fully descended yet and was off a bit to the right so I don't think I would have been much more dialated than last week.

I gained 4 lbs since last Monday. But seeing as I just ate about 5 choc. chip cookies that shouldn't be a surprise.

I have the worst cold and my back is killing me. Poor Josh all he wants to do is play outside and I can't do half the stuff he can do with daddy. Oh well.

QOTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close I can't take the pain from a bikini wax when not pregnant so I won't even bother this time. DH helps me when I ask him to. I am getting a mani/pedi with my mom when she's here-hopefully I make it till then. Although last time I kept my socks on the whole time.

padsI think I have Always-you also get a few to wear in the hospital. Those ice packs they give you in the hospital are fantastic too!

It's nap time and hopefully when I wake up my back doesn't hurt as much and poor Josh can have some fun outside.

This place is hopping!

I'm happy to report that I've gotten over some of my mental issues where I seemed to be in denial about having this child!

We made our tour reservations for the hospital for this weekend (I'll be 36w on Saturday). And I made my appointment to get my maternity photos. I'm going to be including Nora in them.

However, I can't get DH to understand that the kid could come any day now. He's dragging his feet with regard to getting the rooms finished up. We have a beautiful cradle which my father built for Nora so that #2 can stay in our room, but I was hoping to have Nora in her big girl room and in her big girl bed before #2 comes so she doesn't feel like she's getting the bum's rush out of her old nursery!

Hope everyone's getting geared up!

I couldn't remember if I posted here yesterday or not. I went back and didn't see a post from me- so I hope this isn't a repeat!

Had my LAST Dr's appt yesterday. I gained a few pounds- total gain for this pregnancy is 4 lbs according to my Dr. But, I had lost some before my first appt so my actual gain was only 1.5 lbs (damn GD diet;) ). We are all set for the c/s on Friday at 7:30am. I have to be to the hospital at 5:30am and I can't eat or drink after 10:00pm the night before. Everything looks good- my BP was good, NST went well- so well in fact the Dr said I don't have to come in this Thurs for my regular NST. I am having a lot of swelling but the Dr isn't worried since my BP is good. For some reason I am much more nervous this time around about the c/s. I guess last time "ignorance is bliss" held true. This time I am very worried about reacting to the spinal again. But, it is all worth it in the end!

So, in less than 3 days I will get to meet my baby- and find out if it's a boy or a girl!

Good luck to everyone. I will try to be back on next week to update everyone. (I will probably be on again before Friday morning however.)

Morning all!

Had my appointment this morning with the dr. He suggest that we pull out all the possiblities to get this baby going because of my water retention. He even said that it's dr. orders for us to DTD.;) At least he didnt mention the CS word. I'm up another 2 kilos making it a total of 19 kilos (41.8 lbs:eek: - kilos looks much better!) My BP was low when I went in, but they retook it before I left and it was normal- must have been the walking and the sudden sharp jabs 2 minutes before the dr office.

Got to see baby D again via u/s. He had hiccups again. Still head down thank goodness. Gotta go back next Wed. for BP/urine/ finger jab (iron count) and to see how the swelling is.

QTD: is anyone doing anything in the "grooming/pampering" arena as your due date gets close
I have to call for a pedicure for next Wed since it's next door to my Dr. (2 birds/one stone trip into town). Not even going to attempt waxing- yikes thats gotta hurt!

Pads I have to admit it's been at least 13 years since I've bought them, so I have to go out and buy some. God I dread buying pads.:o

Hope ya'll have a great hump day!

Since yesterday was my first "official" day off of bedrest, i ran errands...I really needed to buy stuff for my hospital bag (i.e. nice fuzzy socks, nursing cami, toiletre's, a new pair of BLACK pajamas, pads, and underware). Around 10:30 last night, i started to have some pain, and it gradually got worse..i was up all night long, with it becoming regular around 2 am...I think im having CONTRACTIONS!!! I thought i was crazy at first, so I am going to call the Dr's office in 2 minutes when they open.

Ironic-if this really IS it (which i doubt), and the baby is born today, that would kinda creep me out. Smiles Love the pregnancy photos!! They came out so good!!

Missy Good luck on Friday!

Standrea Let us know what the doctor says!

I had my OB appointment yesterday and unfortunately there's not much to report. Oh, except that I tested positive for Strep B which sucks. Apparently, it's pretty common but I just hate having one more thing to think about - not to mention an IV hook up from the minute I get admitted.

Did the non-stress test and all was well but I'm not having any contractions. Honestly, I haven't even had any BH contractions (that I know of). Is that weird? has everyone been having them?

The hospital never sent my doctor the sonogram results from last week, which totally pisses me off because she couldn't comment on them at all. I told her he was 7 pounds, but she needs to know what percentile that is (wouldn't you think there's just some chart she can look at for that?) so she's going to call me today and let me know. Anything under 90th percentile is ok. My last sonogram he was 78th, so we'll see. In the meantime, she took out the tape measure and now I'm measuring at 41 weeks - about 4 1/2 weeks ahead of schedule as opposed to my usual 2 1/2.

QOTDs

Body Changes/Eviction Proceedings Basically, other than just being really uncomfortable and having a lot of groin pain when I walk, I haven't noticed anything that might signal his imminent arrival. It's still pretty early though. Personally, I'm afraid to start any eviction proceedings on my own. I mean, won't he just come when it's the best time for him to come? As much as I hope he comes early, I don't want to push him out before he's ready!!

Grooming I'm kind of in the "out of my sight, out of mind" camp, but it's mostly because I can't do anything on my own. Shaving was out a LONG time ago - not only can't I see anything below my belly, but it's too uncomfortable to bend over. I did get a full leg and bikini wax last month before my photo shoot and while I didn't think it was more painful than usual, it was just really uncomfortable to get into the positions I needed to be in to get waxed. Just lying on my back for too long hurt. So I think that's it for me - the doctor/nurses are going to see everything in it's natural hairy state!!

I will get a hair cut on Friday though - just so I won't have to worry about it for a while after the birth. And I'll still go for mani/pedis, but that's just for me, not for anyone else.

Fats In regards to BH-I said something to the OB I saw a few weeks ago and told her I couldn't remember what they felt like from my first and she said many women don't get them in their first pregnancy. So no it's not weird that you haven't had any.

It's hard to believe my Ethan is already 9 days old. He hasn't regained his birth weight back yet, but the doc says thats pretty common. I've been dealing with the baby blues, but I think I may have turned the corner on that. Ethan gave us 6 straight hours of sleep the other night (after stuffing him full with 12 feedings during the day) so that helped out a ton! We haven't had the film developed from our pictures (what a time to lose the charger to the digital camera!) but I'll post some pics as soon as we do!

Last night I awoke to practically losing everything I had eaten. I felt awful. I was on the floor, in the bathroom, just at a loss as to what to do. DH came in and convinced me that I needed to take today off and go to the doctors because my body is saying that I've had enough. So I was up a majority of the night and got up early to go to work to set up for a sub.

I called the doctor and they wanted to see me right away. They hooked me up and found that I was having some very minor contractions that are not even worth worrying about. She did check my cervix and found that I'm not dilated and that I'm 50% effaced. So the conclusion is that I'm probably having a kidney problem...I'm going to finish out the week at work. Then I'll decide if I work next week or not.

Oh, Standrea! Here's to a quick and easy L&D!

And good luck to Missy, too!

Fats, I only randomly get BH, like after a long walk.

As for me, DH's office staff is having a shower for me today at lunch, but I'm off to get our infant seat checked beforehand. I had to call 4 different places as our local fire depts no longer do checks and the California Highway Patrol, the only "official" agency doing them now, has a 3 week wait (which would be well after Baby J is here!).

And thanks to everyone for your kind compliments on the baby shots! I'm so glad I got them.

QOTD:
Body changes/eviction proceedings: None really, as I'm more a "wait-and-see" person and don't want to rush her out. I can definitely tell I'm getting cranky, though as I am more and more uncomfortable. The one good thing is that, for some reason, I'm able to sleep through most of the night with just 1 bathroom break around 6 am. YAY!

Grooming : I'm also in the "out of my sight, out of mind" camp when it comes to down there. I have had a few pedicures so far, as I like to have cute feet and I can still see them. :)

I'm home for now.

I am a little more then a centimeter dialated, and Abbie's head is REALLY low (that's how the midwife put it)...I am definately in labor. She said, go home, do errands, take a few baths and showers, have your husband take you for a long walk. I went to Target and was very frusterated because I couldn't find what I wanted, so my friend Maribeth is bringing me things like a crib mattress, sheets, take me home outfit, changing pad, etc. Typical stuff that i was waiting for my shower for.

When I asked the doctor if there was a chance it would stop, because my shower is sunday she said "honey, you'll be at your shower. Just with the baby! Your body has been trying to push the baby out for a month already, i really don't see this stopping"...

Ok, i'm off to clean, then to go buy some diapers and wipes. I'll try to come back later...

Hi all,
Echoing everyone else: Missy--good luck Friday!!!

Standrea Wow... so you are kind of in labor and kind of not? Well I'm thinking of you... Hoping the rest moves quickly and easily!!!

I'm with you Fats on no BH yet (my midwife said that's ok I may never feel one) and on being in no hurry to induce myself. However, ask me again if I'm at 41 weeks or something I guess...

BUT, since a few of you asked, here is some of what my doula told me would help:
--deep pressure below the ankles
--a few pressure points on the hands and feet, I can't really describe too well, but the hand one is basically where your thumb and first finger meet up, apparently it's the same spot that helps migraines?
--relaxation techniques
--tension release such as watching a really funny or tearjerker movie
--eating fresh mangos and pineapples
--nipple stimulation
--insertion of evening primrose oil gel caps (to prepare cervix)
She gave me like a 3 page sheet so there's tons more, broken down by uterus vs. cervix work, etc.!!!

I had my 39 week appointment yesterday, still no internal but they actually said they'd do one plus a membrane stripping at my 40 week next week. They did an u/s just for fun and the baby was moving around and doing fine. My BP and urine and all that was fine too. The midwife estimated an 8 1/2 pounder. Hmm!!! No signs of labor yet....

Hope you are all doing well!

Good luck Missy and Standrea!

Anyone else have crazy insomnia?
I've had RLS this whole time, but now I think it has moved well beyond that. Last night I went to bed at 10:30 and tossed and turned until 12:15, then I woke up at 12:45 when our smoke alarm went off - for some unknown reason! - I tossed and turned until I finally just got up at 1:30 and read until 3 am. Our dog barked for no reason at 5 and then I got up at 7 because she was having issues (we had to take her to the vet hospital). I realize there was alot going on last night, but really, I haven't slept well in ages. I'm going to try laying down now until the vet calls with the info on my "first baby." Hopefully I can try to catch up!

I just spoke with my doctor and it turns out the results from my sonogram last week showed the baby being in the 90th percentile. Apparently 90% is the cut off of where they start to worry. I'm really upset and I keep thinking that it's because of all the weight I gained and that I should have watched my diet better (forget the fact that my husband is almost 6'5" and rather bulky - I still feel like it's my fault).

Since I'm not 37 weeks yet, we can't really talk about induction or anything, but I guess we can discuss that at my next appointment. I also have another u/s scheduled for the end of next week, but I'm hoping she'll talk to me about induction before that.

I think my dog knows that something is going on...She is freaking out!!

When i left ofr the doctors earlier, she tried to get out, and then she's been extremely clingy since I've been home. My friend dropped off a bunch of stuff for me, and so i put her out on her leash...and she started "knocking" on the front door to be let in...she's nuts!! She took her "necklace" off somehow! Shes never done this before!!

My contractions are getting a little more intense, but the timing seems to be the same. I did get most of the house clean except for cleaning out the bathtub and Abbie's room. We will do Abbie's room when Stan get's home from work...

Fats - don't beat yourself up. I'm sure you just have a nice healthy baby boy growing in you. And, I know you've seen/read all those postings that the u/s can't say for sure how big he is. Plus, with a 6'5" husband - of course he's going to pass on some of that! Hang in there.

Do I really need to buy special pajamas and/or nursing gowns? Either for the hospital or for when we're back at home. Would love to hear from the ROs or others with opinions...

Standrea: Wow!!! Good luck and congratulations! Can't wait to hear from you after all is said and done.

BH Contrax: I have these all the time...They're increasing in frequency and duration, which makes them even more uncomfortable.

I have lost more of my mucous plug. And Stan and I went for a nice long walk tonight, then i took a shower. I went to bed at 11 and woke up just a few minutes ago, so that was a good 2 and a half hours...

Ok, I'm going to try to sleep somemore, I'll let you know if anything changes...

Thanks ladies for the thoughts and best wishes. Things are going really slow. It's too bad she wasn't born yesterday, DH and I both forgot it was FIL's Birthday!! The contractions are still the same distance apart, getting a LITTLE more intense, but nothing unbearable yet...

Em-your pics are gorgeous!!:)

Thank you Bloomwood, Standrea, Mrs U, Pink Converse, Sneezy, Southlooper, smiles33, nettreefrog, Jen1098, and Lolly for the warm welcomes home! I'm so excited to see everyone's progress. I want to try to keep participating in any applicable QOTD so I can offer a comparison from my end.

Sneezy, Smiles33 and Em7.31.04 - you look wonderful in your belly shots! You have no idea how jealous I am of your photos. I had planned on doing these but unfortunately Keegan had other plans. Well perhaps I can do this with child #2.

Body Changes
Absolutely none! When my water broke on March 3rd it was completely without warning. I never had indication of losing my mucous plug prior to this (or even really after when I was in the hospital). It seemed though the week prior, my belly had dropped some when I looked in the mirror. But I defintely didn't consider it significant.

Baby's Room
Count me in amongst those who say no. But now that we're starting to settle into "somewhat" of a schedule I'm getting ready to start working on it again this week. Keegan sleeps in our room with us so there won't be any issue of the baby having to smell fumes while painting gets completed.

I was fortunate that I had "groomed" with an electric (I don't do well with a regular razor and have never waxed) a week prior to everything happening. :p So uh yeah, I guess I'm included in the group that tried to take care of her business. Unfortunately though I hadn't shaved my legs and it just wasn't going to happen in the hospital while I was on bed rest so I delivered with a small amount of stubble. For those unsure about whether to groom/shave/wax etc. it's really not all that important except for your own sanity. My husband and friend who served as coach and doula during my birth totally didn't even notice.

[B]Pads
I made a list of things for DH to pack when I found out I would not be going home and that included a supply of large maxi pads with wings. A few girlfriends had recommended doing this as the hospital provided ones were crap. Well guess what? When post-partum came, I totally preferred the hospital peri pads! I also had him pack a set of maternity underwear I had bought for this particular purpose and they worked out great! Because I had been flat on my back for so long I embarrassingly got a rash, so when I was discharged I converted to using regular maxi pads (my bleeding was minimal at that point) as anything else was just irritating. At some point I had to be willful and do away with them all together because I was irritated down there.

Good luck to you Missy! Today is your day for your beautiful baby to arrive!

Hang in there jarm and fats I'm sorry you had such a rough week. You're in my thoughts.

Standrea good luck! I can't wait to read your next post. You could be our next mommy in the group.

Bloomwood I hope your doggie is ok! I poked my head in your journal to read about it and everything turns out well.

Everyone else...hope you're doing well! As for me, well here's to another night of we'll see how much sleep I get. ;)

Well, besides my little spat of non sleep between 2-3, i slept most of the night, which was fantastic!! If i felt contractions, I would try to change position, and it seemed to work. They aren't any closer together though.

For the girls that asked about Mucous plug a few weeks ago (I was one of them)-YOU WILL KNOW...i know its general, but its true. You'll be like, yup! that's it!!

DH went to work pissed off today, convinced that the doctors dont know what they are talking about. He said they got his hopes up:rolleyes: ...i really do feel for him, but he obviously isn't thinking about the person with the contractions!!

I really hope the baby comes today, because my shower is Sunday, and i'd like to make an appearance...Is that selfish of me?

I think I need to read the post I left for fats to myself over and over. I had my 39 week appt today and feel absolutely dashed. First, I have made no progress, maybe even negative progress, because she is now higher than she was last week. I remain at 1 cm and 30% effaced. As if that wasn't discouraging enough, the baby had a growth spurt - I was measuring 38cm last week and am now at 40cm. The dr. believes she is over 8 lbs now and is worried that I am not going to be able to deliver vaginally. The word csection sent me into a tizzy and I called DH crying right after the appt. I know that A) she could be wrong on the baby's weight and B) I could still maybe pull off a vaginal birth and C) w/o meds at that But, I am just really scared. I know the most important thing is the baby's health, but it is just so far from the birth I have envisioned and hoped for. I am going to think about this all rationally tonight with DH and call tomorrow with questions.

I'll try to be back with SOs later, right now I'm feeling a little self-centered. I'm sorry. :( I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi girls! Long time no see! We've been staying at my parents' house for the past couple of weeks since my husband decided it would be the perfect time to sheetrock the kitchen. Don't even get me started! Then there's also the fact that the baby's nursery wasn't even completed until a couple of days ago. I know we're planning on co-sleeping but it would be nice to have somewhere to put her laundry once I get around to washing it. Oh yes...I am so slacking! Ha! Anyway, for some reason I'm not able to log in to post from their computer which is why I haven't been around.

So, let me start off by saying Congrats to all of the new Mommies and babies!!! How exciting! :D

I had an appointment yesterday. Lots of contractionsfor the past few days-every 2-3 minutes according mt my NST and I'm 3 cm dilated. I know that pretty much means nothing since I was in the same situation with DD #2 for a good week or so before she was born. I'm hoping this little one follows suit because I am nowhere near ready for her to make her grand entrance. I actually got a little rteary eyed leaving the drs office because I'm not ready to do this quite yet. I just got around to installing the carseat today but I haven't even packed my hospitl bag or charged my camera batteries or washed the baby's clothes! Not to mention my house is still in a shambles from all of the contruction. I'm actually here now hoping to make some progress so we can move back home either tonight or tomorrow. I need some sense of normalcy in my life right now so I can feel ready for baby's arrival.

So, that's it for now. I better get cleaning. I promise to check in once we're all moved back home. Good luck to anyone who may go into labor while I'm away from the computer!!! :)

Hi guys! I don't know why sometimes I don't get the "alerts" of a new post...anyway it's been several days now since I've checked in.

Missy & Standrea - good luck guys! Standrea - it is so surreal to have you posting updates while technically you are in labor! I hope you get some changes soon b/c I imagine the waiting/wondering is crazy! Has your doc said anything about the baby being early? I mean, did they do any checks on the lungs or anything like that, or are they just assuming it doesn't really matter at this point. My due date is just the day before yours so I am curious.

Fats - Try not to worry about the size - it's certainly nothing you did! Sounds like you & your husband just make a big baby - 6'5" is quite big! My DD was small, the ultrasound measured her even smaller than she was and got everyone in a tizzy. But I am under 5' so what were they expecting? Turns out she was totally healthy but just had my stature - I'm sure the same is true in your case (plus u/s are notoriously unreliable for sizing at this late stage, as you know).

EM - Love the photos, especially the 2nd one. As for your pjs/nursing gowns question: with DD I wore the hospital gown in the hospital, it was just easier. At home I wore t-shirts and just lifted them for nursing (only nursed for a month though) and that is what my other mommy friends seem to have done most of the time. This time I'd like to bring something to the hospital since I"ll be there longer (having a c/s).

Bloomwood - Over 8 lbs doesn't sound so unusual these days! Try not to get disheartened, lots of my friends have delivered babies 8-9 lbs vaginally without complications. (Not sure about no drugs, but that was a choice they made - I don't think it really changes the pain THAT much).

Our update
I can't remember if I posted this or not! I think I must have. I'm pretty sure I did post that the baby had an irregular heartbeat at the appt last week...did I also let you all know that the following day during the fetal EKG it was totally normal? We were thrilled!

The other thing (again can't remember if I posted this) is that I am definitely having a c-section as the placenta hasn't moved at all. I hope to schedule that at my appointment tomorrow. Wow, can't believe I'll have a birthday on the calendar! I am a bit freaked out about having a c/s, mostly about trying to recover while also being mom to a 2 year old. Ugh! But at least my mom will be up here to help, thank goodness.

Still need to get some stuff for the hospital bag. And yikes, forgot to get some maxi pads for home (I'll use the hospital ones there).

Those of you who are R/Os who nursed - did you bring nursing pads, bras to the hospital? I think I just went without a bra while there - but I wasn't there as long as I will be this time.

Quick s/o before I head back to my parents' house-

Bloomwood-I'm sorry you're so upset but try not to stress yourself out! I know that you know u/s can be off but even if it isn't lots of women birth 8+ lb babies vaginally, with or without meds! My first was 8lbs, 5 oz and my second was 8lbs 7 oz and that was unmedicated. You can do it! Have confidence in yourself!

As for making little to no progress...read my last entry. It means nothing! You can be tightly closed and go into labor that day or 3-4 cm like me and hang out that way for a week or more. Hang in there! Your little one will be here before you know it!

shortcake-Good news about the heartbeat! I did bring nursing bras and pads to the hospital. I really needed the support because when my milk came in my boobs were so sore.

Standrea-Good luck if this is it!

Spellbound-Glad you're doing well!

Em-Beautiful photos! I was planning on getting some done with this pregnancy but looks like I'm running ou of time. Hopefully DH will be able to take some for me before our little bundle makes her arrival!

OK. I accomplished some cleaning and DH just called to inform me that he's leaving work easrly tomorrow to help get this house in order. Yippee! I'm off to put my feet up and feed the kids dinner. I'll check in when I can! :)

Kim - I don't think my milk came in till I was home (with DD) but I hear it comes in quicker with #2, plus I will be in the hospital longer. So sounds like I'll need them. Thanks!

So behind. . . sorry for not checking back sooner. Thank you all for the well wishes. So far everything is going great. Elliot is really very easy and I am loving not being pregnant anymore. DH took a couple weeks off, so we have just enjoyed being a family and hanging out. I haven't written my birth story, but DH did for someone, so I have pasted in his version of events.

Congrats to Kristin. Ethan is beautiful. Hope you passed the blues corner, but hang in there if not. Be good to yourself!!

Good luck Standrea and Missy!! Little ones for you in your arms soon.

All the rest of you, hang in there. Take good care of yourselves. The anticipation is crazy, but it is worth it.

As for me, I have been doing great. I am waiting to come down from my high, but maybe my hormones will be good to me. I am LOVING being a mom. Just feels very complete for me. I know my bubble may burst any second, but enjoying it while it is here.

Okay, DH's version of my Birth Story
So, here's what happened. Caroline and I checked into Labor and Delivery Monday night. They started the induction process shortly after arriving and we both attempted going to sleep while monitors beeped and whistled every few minutes. Very relaxing..... ugh.
When morning arrived Caroline was only a one. The doctor said another patient down the hall who started the same time as Caroline was a five, so he joked she was losing the race with her. A couple hours later Caroline got her epidural which turned into a slight adventure. Caroline faints easily and when they had her sit-up for the procedure her blood pressure dropped and she fought to not faint. When they got her settled and looked for the baby's heart rate it had dropped too low so we had people running all around the room. Almost went into a c-section at that moment but Caroline's blood pressure started to raise and so did the baby's heart rate. They attempted to put an internal monitor on the baby's head but Caroline wasn't far enough along so the multiple attempts ($1,000 bucks each I was told) failed. Caroline was having one contraction on top of another but after eight hours since the epidural she was barely a three. It was decided that enough was enough, this wasn't working. So, I got dressed in scrubs while they wheeled Caroline away. Her blood pressure again dropped when they moved her onto the surgery table which again resulted in the baby's heart rate dropping.
A nurse directed me in, holding both of my arms at my side and saying "DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!" Yes mama. I sat with Caroline and her doctor was very funny. When he delivered Elliot he said, “Its a boy!! And what a boy he is, look at those cow bells!" Later we learned that before starting the incision he drew a house with a family on Caroline's belly. After Elliot was born Caroline could not see him but I could. They flicked his foot a few times but he didn't start breathing. Caroline asked if everything was alright because she hadn't heard him cry. They had to bag him about 20 seconds before he started to breath on his own. However, I could also see that they were lifting his arms and legs and letting go, but they would drop straight down and wasn't moving them on his own. That seemed to last forever and had me really worried. That was an awful few minutes (you probably noticed how blue his hands and feet were in the first photos). Caroline kept asking me "is everything alright", but I couldn't answer her. Anyway, he eventually started moving and it was likely caused by her previous blood pressure issues plus the c-section.

And just because I am a proud mom - pics to share :D

Guiness Love the pictures. He's so cute. What a story-scary few moments there for you.

MissyGood Luck tomorrow.

bloomwoodI'm sorry you had a disapointing Dr. appt. but you never know-your water could break at any moment. Although I did have an epidural Josh was 8lbs 5 ozs so over 8lbs isn't that bad.

shortcake Glad to hear everyone is good with baby. I didn't bring nursing pads with me last time but like you I also heard with #2 milk comes in quicker so I've included that in my bag for the hospital.

KIm I hear ya-I am not ready either. That's why I'm kinda glad I didn't get an internal the other day. Ignorence is bliss in my case.

Standrea Wondering how you're doing. Maybe you're at the hospital.:D

Fats Don't beat yourself up. Like you said you have a dh who is 6'5 it has nothing to do with how you've eaten. If that's the case then I have a 15 lb baby inside me with all the cookies I've eaten this time around. Try not to stress.

Nothing new here-feeling pretty good. I just need this baby to stay in one more week then he can come out to meet us. Well preferrably after my pedicure next Saturday. Well maybe after Sunday-DH and I are going on a date Sat. night.

Bought our double stroller today-I can't believe I'm going to be pushing around a stroller with two kids in it. Also picked up a swaddling blanket-I could not swaddle last time to save my life.

Alright ladies I"m off to shower-it's much easier when DS is sleeping b/c other wise he's peeking in on me and letting in all the cold air.

Lots of thoughts here as I just talked to my daughter's best friend's mom who happens to be a midwife. Here are some of our conversation points:

1. My first issue: I was a bit horrified at my appointment on Tuesday because the OB said that next Tuesday (May 2nd appointment) we are going to discuss induction dates. I had an induction with my daughter, and thought it was dreadful.

C's response: Women can go till 42 weeks generally without a problem. After that point, there may be placental problems --although not necessarily. An induction is generally performed on a Wednesday or Thursday because the doctors don't want to think about you going into labor on the weekend. She also noted that if this is your first child (or it has been so long since the first that you are noted as such), the doctors expect that on Pitocin your cervix will dilate according to a specific progression --but many doctors will want to perform a C-section after 12 hours (though your timing for the start of the IV with Pitocin will fluctuate depending on when it is actually logged). Women expecting child 2+ are expected to dilate much faster.

2. My second issue: I want a natural labor -- without an epidural. My doctor keeps pushing me to think about it even though it did not work the first time and I don't want to deal with any side effects.

C's response: L&D nurses will push you to get an epidural because although most only are dealing with 1 maybe 2 patients at one time, many are lazy and don't want to deal with a patient who is in pain because that requires more coaching and help on their behalf. Further, once the epidural is performed, it is easy to then have a C-section (again not what I want).

3. My third issue: I want natural remedies to start the process of dilation.

C's response: SEX, SEX, SEX! As this causes the prostaglandins in the semen (the same stuff that the doctor will use as a gel to ripen the cervix) and the orgasm will release oxytocin (hopefully resulting in contractions of the uterus). Nipple stimulation may help as well --but be careful how much stimulation as the contractions can potentially be quite intense.

4. My fourth issue: Is membrane stripping a good idea?

C’s response: You need to be dilated to the extent that the doctor can wiggle his/her finger up and basically swipe away the layer of membranes. He/she could rupture the membranes at that point –before the baby is ready to come out and potentially expose the baby to infection. (All in all, I am opting against it although there is the potential for some dilation because of it.)

--

Shout-outs to all…and a few responses…

Fats -- Sending you warm wishes –and if you need to chat, definitely send along an email.

Missy/Standrea – Hope the births are going along smoothly.

Guinness – What wonderful photos! The one with the dogs is too cute!

Bloomwood – Hope the doctor is wrong about delivering naturally. The human body is truly amazing—and you may be just fine!

Kim – Fabulous about the contractions –I hope that they get closer together and that labor is right around the corner.

Shortcake – Fabulous about the EKG! And, yes I would bring a nursing bra and pads to the hospital. If nothing else, a lactation nurse can help new mommies with leakage, bra fitting, and so on…

Jen – Neat about the stroller – What did you end up getting?

Hi ladies! Just popping in to report I am now officially "miserable." Baby J has been beating up on my organs all day, which has never happened before. She used to kick a bit earlier in the pregnancy, but lately it's been mostly squirmy. Today, I feel the most discomfort/pain I've had thus far....my stomach feels like it's going to explode. Ugh.

Guinness: Elliot and the pups are SO adorable! And I love that wrap...where did you get it?

OK, going to curl in a fetal position and try to ignore this....

Hang in there Smiles!! The blanket is from Zutano. Different stores carry it online, or you can do a search to find online sources. They have very cool fabrics, but it is a little pricey. I have found that the blanket is a great swaddling blanket though!!

Marchfamily I don't think the mucus plug equates to labor very well. I lost mine a couple weeks before I went in, and at that point I had zero progress - so it meant nothing for me.

Nettreefrog Very frustrating for you. I am sorry you are having to think about all these things. Try to focus on getting things progressing naturally and then just go with how you feel in the moment. I had every single thing on your list, and I will tell you my doc did discuss continuing to try to labor, not getting the epidural etc. While he may have suggested it, there was always room for me to say - nope not comfortable doing it that way, I would prefer to continue laboring. I chose not to go that route and was happy I did, but I can understand the flip side too. Just voice your thoughts, trust your instincts and trust your doctor's medical opinion when the time comes. They really do have you and the babies best interest at heart I believe. HUGS!!

Bloomwood and Fats Hang in there. Don't worry about the big baby statements, they really don't know. They also don't know what your birth canal can take. My sister in law is 5'2" max and weighs nothing and she vaginally gave birth to a 10lb, 10 oz baby, I on the other hand in 5'8" big hips, and fat stores to boot and a 7lb baby wouldn't fit through my pelvis. I had no idea that would be a problem for me. So hang in and go with your plan and let what happens happen. You will know when the time comes what feels right.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. This enters us officially into May :D Yippee! This is your month.

Good morning!

Guinness Those photos are ADORABLE. I love the "obligatory" naked baby. So reading your DH's description of you almost fainting reminded me--did you say much earlier that you frequently have vasovagal reactions? Because I do too. One of my biggest fears is that I'm going to go all VV when I first go into labor (just at the concept), when they try to do labs when I get to the hospital, when they try to give me an IV, and then obviously anything beyond that like an epi or actual c/s if it came to that. It sounds silly since I haven't experienced the pain yet, but I'm more worried about the VV than the pain right now!

big babies I'll just throw in that I was told at my 39 weeks appointment Tuesday that I'm likely to have an 8 1/2 pounder, and no one seem phased... should I be???

random vent I hope this is ok. I just need to put it out there. So my MIL (who is VERY well-meaning and sweet) sent me a guided imagery for labor and delivery audio CD. I listened to it, and essentially cried hysterically for the first 10 of the whole 30 minutes. Here's why. It's all zen and peaceful and talking about how my ancestors are all around me supporting me and breathing my baby's name and guiding me, and my cervix is a flower, etc. etc. Well I had a two part strong reaction: first, I couldn't help but find it really lame and hokey. Second, I felt totally guilty, and thought: yeah, but it's exactly the people who aren't as closed-minded and skeptical as me who can use this stuff and truly have a less scary and painful birth. So why can't I be like that? The clash of the two thoughts just made me totally break down. Anyway, random vent (or whatever you'd call that) over...

Otherwise, still feeling relatively good for being this huge! And that's certainly something to be happy about! Hope the rest of you are doing well too.

Good morning!

Smiles33 Hang in there. The end is in sight!

Guiness Love the baby photos! I'm so jealous right now. You get to play with your baby on the outside! Hope things are going well.

Sneezy Vent away! Don't feel bad about the CD not working for you, I can't imagine it would work for me either.

As for me, physically I'm doing fine. There has been almost no progress for me in the past 3 weeks. I was a little scared, and a little excited, when I found out at 35wks that I was 80% effaced. Turns out, three weeks later, I'm still 80% effaced, and maybe 1 cm dilated. Ugh. Come on baby boy! I guess the good news is I'm not any more uncomfortable either.

However, I am increasingly impatient. Why isn't anything more happening! I'm not even at my due date yet and I'm already getting antsy. And I know people mean well, but it's frustrating to call friends or family and have them say, oh I thought you were calling to tell me you had the baby, or I dreamed you were at the hospital. They think that they're getting impatient. Not to mention the fact that I'm much more emotional these days. It's amazing how the littlest things will bring tears to my eyes. Can't be too much longer...

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. I am feeling much better about it today. First, no one can say I can't deliver a 8lb+ baby vaginally until we try. I may look small in stature, but I've always thought my hips were "plentiful" ;). Second, I have become less anxious about the c/s. Yes, it is a major surgery when I've never so much as sprained an ankle (knock on wood!), but I have a very capable doctor. The most important thing is delivering the baby safely.

A few shoutouts.
Spellbound - thanks for the thoughts on my doggie. She is doing better. She is definitely my "First baby" so it was really scary!

nettie - yep, the impatience has been with me for a while too. You're almost there! Glad you are feeling well though!

sneezy - I doubt I could take that seriously either! No, you don't need to be concerned about a big baby. My dr just mentioned it b/c she is afraid the baby will get stuck on the way out (a la Guinness), but as everyone has posted there is no reason we can't deliver biggies. (and as my DH mentioned, big babies tend to sleep better! although take that with a grain of salt :p )

marchfamily - the plug has no bearing on labor. I am going on 3 weeks since having lost part of mine and my dr. said as well no impact. Hope it is soon for you though!

smiles - hope you survived batting practice.

nettreefrog - glad you have another resource to discuss your concerns.

Jen - haha - hope baby cooperates and you and DH get your date night!!

Guinness - Elliot is so freaking cute. I just want to gobble him up. Sounds like things are going very well for you! And, wow! What an amazing birth story. I would've been a basket case.

To our alreay mommas - please keep sharing the photos! It definitely keeps me motivated and excited!

By the last day of March, there were 9 April babies. 12 March births before March 1. We only have 4! Maybe 5 if Standrea has given birth.

I think our little Taurean babies are being true to their sign - stubborn. :p

Maybe we'll have some weekend arrivals.

Happy Friday Everyone!

I had my first internal today. 0 dilation. I start going in every week now. I had a tiny scare while at the doctor. It was time to listen to the heart and my OB couldn't find it. She finally found it on the right side of my belly. However, just as she got a fix on it DD knocked the doppler away and retreated to the left.

She was wanted to be alone. That or is a practical joker.

We are doing our baby bootcamp/everything you need to know about L&D tomorrow. It seemed so long ago that I booked this class and now it is here. We attended an infant/child CPR class last week which was very informative. I hope tomorrow is the same.

Already Mommies: Thanks for sharing your pictures! I'm jealous! They're all so beautiful!

VENT/Thinking aloud:My mother informs me that my dad has a plan to come and visit us once a month to help us with the baby. They live 15 minutes away from my brother and babysit my nephew 2 days a week. We live 5 hours away. While it would be wonderful if my mother came, I don't know about my dad. My mother is an easy houseguest and I wouldn't mind having her around. My dad, on the other hand, can be picky and overbearing (not to mention he is allergic to dogs and would have to stay in a hotel, which I would have to research and book.) He is very concerned about us being overwhelmed and me going through PPD. Honestly, having him around is enough to make me psychotic. I know he is feeling the loss of not being able to be as close to DD as he is with my nephew because I feel it too. But then I remember, there is a reason why I chose to live 5 hours away...

Hope everyone has a great and restful weekend!

Wow, hadn't even thought of horoscope! I don't even know what sign my DD is - anyone know November 29th?

Anyway I have big news - we have a c/s scheduled for May 17th! Well actually it's not officially scheduled, the doc agreed to the date and will set it up with the hospital. She was a little reluctant as I'll be a few days shy of 39 weeks, but since I turn 39 weeks on a Saturday (and she's not on call) I'd have to wait till the Monday, and that's just getting too close to the due date for me to feel comfortable. We picked Wed b/c then she can also do the circumcision on Friday, and check me to see if I can go home or need to wait till Saturday. I am still unclear as to how long I should expect to stay! But that's ok I'll get all that figured out.

Oh, this little girl is a PITA already!! She is playing games with us. She is frusterating her daddy very much so!! Contractions seemed to have stopped!! So, I think we may have a May baby instead of April!! Sunday will be 36 weeks, so the closer we get to 37 the happier I'll be!!

Guinness Thanks for the pictures - he is such a beautiful baby!!!

I had my last day of work today - in the office anyway. I'm supposed to work from home next week but I don't think it'll be that much work.

I'm really feeling uncomfortable so I stopped commuting just in time. I don't even like sleeping anymore because I can't stand having to get up and 'roll' out of bed every few hours.

I'll see my OB on Tuesday and then have a sonogram on Thursday and I'll know more about whether they want to induce me early. Part of me really wants that but another part of me is so afraid of labor that I'd rather just put it off as long as possible!!

I'm so stinkin' miserable. I posted more details in LJ, but basically I've been getting the awful backaches very sporadically. Tuesday is going to be my last day at work. They're going to be throwing me a shower that morning. While I want to have this baby, I'm not ready at the same time. It's so crazy! I think I better pack a bag, though, just in case.

Standrea - Sorry for the frustration! Probably good if you can hang in there till 37 weeks but still it's so hard to get yanked around like that!

Jarm - Ugh about your back! Glad you're going to get to go home and rest - have fun at your work shower!

Fats - Hurrah for no more work! I hear you about not liking sleeping. (speaking of which, why are there no more insomniacs like me up right now on CC? I can't believe I'm so wide awake - I was exhausted and went to bed at 8:30, now it's a little after 3am and I'm not sleepy at all.) I can't seem to lie down comfortably at all, so I sleep semi-upright on the couch. And then roll out for bathroom breaks. I hope the ultrasound shows that the baby is fine and can come out when ready...try not to let your doc (or yourself) overreact to size issues! I had planned to be much firmer this time around and not let them just tell me what to do about that - make up my own mind - turns out it's a moot point with the c/s.

Smiles - Thanks!

Now I'm developing a fever! I was up each hour through the night and feeling like I was getting a fever. I took it at 3 and it was 98.6 and I just took it a little bit ago. It's up to 100. Does anyone know what an unsafe temperature is for pregnancy? I'm going to try and get a little more sleep and then I'll take it again. If it goes up, I'll call the doctor. If it stays the same, I don't know what I'll do and if it goes down, I won't call the doctor. I am exhausted so I want to try and sleep for a bit. I did start packing my bag just in case. I don't have a good feeling about this...the good news is that I'm 37 weeks today.

Sneezy Yep I have the vasovagal response bad and it kicked my butt during the whole process. Started with the epidural, but everytime the nurse moved me (literally from right to left side) it made the response happen and me throw up. Needless to say, I thought to myself - if I can roll from right to left without passing out and getting sick, how am I going to push a baby out - I was destined for a c-section, but all in all it wasn't that bad and my recovery has gone well. I think the worst part is I have to pull off the steristrips tomorrow and my hair is growing back. It is going to be painful. Nurse said better I do it then come in where the doctor will do it all but gently. Anyway, I don't think you will know how you will respond until you get there. My advice is go with the flow as much as possible. Good luck.

Off to feed - MOOOO ;)

Jarm: Wow, you had not had it easy these last 9 month. Hope you're feeling better and that everything is ok.

We had our 1 day baby bootcamp session today. It was very interesting. DH got really into it, took pages and pages of notes (I forget that he has not done as much reading or has as much experience with babies as I have.) We took a tour of the hospital and was made aware of the many different amenities available to us (refrigerators in the room, wireless internet access, birthing balls, squatting rails for the bed, and of course the array of drug that are available.) It got me thinking about other things I have to do before L&D like adding things to my bag, making freezable meals, buying more diapers, nursing pads, and sanitary pads because there is no way either of us are doing laundry the first 2 weeks.

Off to Target...

Why oh why does my body like to have these long drawn out, early labors???? I had an appointment today. Contractions are now 2 minutes apart but stronger than they were at my last appointment on Wednesday. I'm just a tad more than 3 cm dilated which really surprised me since I thought with all these darn contractions I had made a lot more preogress. I had some bloody show today but the contractions haven't really picked up in intensity. They're still frequent and annoying though and at times painful. C'est la vie. I guess this is just how my body likes to labor because this is almost identical to my labor with #2. I'm hoping baby stays put until after the weekend because I still have lots to do. Maybe it's time to pack my hospital bag?

I'm very happy to report that we've finally moved back home! Yay! :D It feels so good to be home. My Mom has been a major help with the clean up effort and she was also kind enough to drag loads and loads of our laundry to wash at her house which is very helpful since she has a commercial washer and dryer (one of the perks of being one of six kids). ;) The house is pretty much immaculate. I just have to finish up with the master bed and bath and I have to wipe out the fridge and go grocery shopping. The nursery is looking good. I'll have to take some pics when I get a chance.

Southlooper-Your hospital sounds great!

AMEN to that!!

I went ot the mall to finish up some last minute "just in case" things, and then got a pedicure. I went to Target and JoAnne's (to get fabric to finish the curtains in the babies room), and started to feel not right. My girlfriend brought me home, I laid down started to feel better, then low and behold out of nowhere, I got contractions again...5 minutes apart. DH took me out for some soup, and then italian ice, and things seemed to be getting more intense (i really can't stand the thigh contractions), so when we got home i showered, and what do you know...they are almost non existant!! There is only 6 more hours until my shower, and i'm so excited to see everyone. I dont have an exact count, but I know that there are going to be ALOT of people there, many who i haven't seen in a really long time!!:)

I hope everyone has a good sunday!

Standrea: You know, I've been experiencing almost the same symptoms; consistent contractions then nothing. This happens mostly when I'm active. Since my last appointment showed no dilation so I attributed this to BH.

Frustrating nevertheless.

I didn't come in here to update. I ended up at the hospital last night for dehydration. I literally slept a majority of the day. I only got up to go to the bathroom and change sleeping locations. I couldn't eat anything and I barely drank anything. Definitely not good! So DH called the doctor and she told him to make me drink at least 1 quart of water and some orange juice and then head to the hospital. They had me laying down and gave me an IV. I had to give a urine sample, and now they're pretty sure I don't have a kidney infection or anything within those means. So we were there a total of three to four hours and I started having contractions. I'm glad I was hooked up to the machine because I would've had no idea they were contractions with as crappy as I was feeling.

I've been trying to do better today, but yesterday took a lot out of me. DH and I are going to be arguing in a bit because I am supposed to work tomorrow and Tuesday and I'd really like to go tomorrow because I'm supposed to meet the sub in the afternoon and then I can get some various other things accomplished. I definitely want to go in on Tuesday because I have two parent meetings and the sub is coming in to see our daily routine. Oh yeah, and they're throwing me a shower in the morning. I just don't know if I have the energy to go tomorrow. What to do? What to do?

Happy May Day! Too bad our canton doesnt have the day free, but we do get the gazillion other Catholic holidays off.

Nothing new to report. Since we've had a cold spell, my swelling went down. Have had a few hard belly moments and I think a few contractions, but since I'm a 1st timer it could have also been gas...

Sat we drove to Interlaken to visit P's grandparent's grave sites. Had lunch at Hooters- lets just say Philly Cheesesteak is only good in Philly from Geno's. At least the prices are the same as stateside.

Sun we had lunch with his mom and 2 uncles since she's housesitting 10 minutes away- meaning she'll drop by without notice this week to check up on me. I need to stay on top of the housecleaning before she comes over with the white glove test.

My shower was fabulous. We got mostly everything that we need, with the exception of a few things (Crib set, sling, breastpump), so I am going to return some doubles today, and buy those. Abbie has so much clothes too, I hope she IS a girl, because it will be a big problem if she ends up being a boy!! I did get a few gift certificates to the spa too, so im so excited to make an appointment for after the baby is born!!

Yes, let's start hatching these babies!

As much as I was convinced early on that I would deliver early, I am now just as convinced this little one is going to need to be forcibly removed. DH is going with me on Thursday to my dr's appt and we'll discuss my status/progress in terms of scheduling an induction. I hope that she makes her appearance before it comes to an induction though.

Add me to the swelling list. My face is okay, but fingers and feet are a different story. Someone mentioned feeling like they have arthritis - I have that same feeling.

Jarm - hope you are feeling better! You are almost done!

Kim and Standrea - sounds like your little ones will be here soon.

Mrs U - I was confused for a minute when you started writing about Hooters and cheesesteak; I thought you were in Switzerland, but then reading about Philly. Guess I need to read more carefully if I'm going to get on here before coffee. :p

Welcome, May!!!! It's time to start meeting our little ones!!!!

Standrea: Welcome to the cankles club! I swear, it is a cruel joke that it's warm enough to wear capris and skirts, but I don't want to because of how heinous my ankles & feet look. Plus, the only shoes that (barely) fit are my flip flops...

I too have been feeling like I have arthritis...I swear, I feel like I am 95 years old when I try to get out of bed. Not fun.

I have an appointment this afternoon for my GBS test and my first internal exam. Will check in afterwards.

I'm supposed to be at a conference for work today and tomorrow...I went to the conference this morning, signed in, and then left to go complete our registry at Pottery Barn Kids. Tsk, tsk. What can I say, I'm completely checked out of my job. Only 8 more work days...and counting...I just might be the world's worst employee...

YEAH IT IS MAY!

After giving it our all this weekend (DTD 4 times, ate pineapple, walked a ton, etc.), Gabriel is still basking away in the glory of my abdomen. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning --and keep hoping to see "plug"! Oh and I have some swelling as well...So-- not pretty!

At lunchtime, I bought another nursing bra, a nursing shirt, and a nightgown for the hospital. Gotta love Target!

In the meantime, I am suffering from horrible allergies (but ooooh I still love trees) and working. I plan on working up until the last second. Of course my coworkers are freaking out that they need a plan of action should I spontaneously go into labor while here at work. They talk about it constantly -- despite me having explained to them that the chances of my water bursting unexpectedly is around 15%. I'd rather listen to them though that sit at home...

Okay need to go be productive... HUGS TO EVERYONE!

I really feel for those of you waiting eagerly for labor! I have never had that, since DD was induced at 36 weeks and this one will be c/s at 38.5 weeks. Since it's getting hard for me to wait now...16 days...and I KNOW what day I am shooting for, I know it must be even more nerve wracking for those of you just waiting and waiting.

Today went and bought a nursing bra & nursing tank at motherhood. I don't want to get too much (especially there since their return policy sucks - no returns at all on bras) since BFing didn't work out next time, but I want to have enough to start out! Have also looked for nightgown type things for the hospital but not found anything I was happy with. What are you all (those who are buying something) using for that?

Just SIX DAYS to go until my EDD! :)

Bloomwood, I think my baby is going to be late, too. My doctor already said we'd talk about scheduling an induction at my next appt, just in case we need it.

Em7.31.04 did you find some good stuff at PBK? It was pretty crowded when I dropped by today, but I didn't see anything that made me want to spend my GC yet. Hope your internal went ok--I found my first one more uncomfortable than expected!

Wow, nettreefrog, that's dedication! We haven't tried any induction strategies yet, as I don't even like my internal exams and DH hasn't (and isn't likely) to get any action for a while. I bought a few Liz Lange nursing tank tops, but when I went and tried one on earlier today, I found it a bit small. I bought the M, which is usually my pre-pg size, so I wonder if they run small....

Standrea, I know what you mean about GC. Our family and friends were so generous that after returning some duplicates and a lot of the 0-3 month size clothing, I have more than $600 in GC from BRU, Pottery Barn Kids, Baby Gap, and the Right Start. Yikes! I can't even imagine spending that much but I'm sure we'll figure out a way to use them. Hope your BF class goes well.

Hey Shortcake, I actually bought the YES nursing bra off eBay and it's sooo comfortable. The seller was great and I think I first learned about them from Baby Bargains. Check out the breastfeedingisbest seller. She's great!

So these last 6 days before my EDD are probably going to be soooo slow. Yet, I just LOVE the sunshine we're FINALLY getting out here now! I had a great day strolling the local outdoor shopping center, buying a few things but mostly browsing at Gymboree, Baby Gap, Pottery Barn Kids, and BRU. I know, I am turning into 1 of those moms who only buys stuff for her kids but once I'm back to my pre-PG size I'm sure I'll be out buying more clothes and shoes for myself! Speaking of which, my shoe size has gone up 1/2 size but I'm hoping it's just swelling!

Today was one of my better days, as the pain from pubic bone pressure was minimal. We had planned to visit SF yesterday and peruse the farmer's market and food vendors at the Ferry building (which was recently featured in the NY Times and made me really want to go), but I was so uncomfortable yesterday I didn't want to leave the house. Plus, Baby J was squirming all day and I just felt so beat-up again.

So, on to another random point, I don't fit any of my maternity pants anymore--some are too tight in the waist/butt area and others are now too loose because Baby J has dropped. I'm pretty much wearing sweats/boxer shorts around the house and the 1 maternity dress I have when I go out. What about the rest of you? Are you still fitting in your maternity clothes?

Finally, last random point, I AM SO BORED AT HOME. I think it's a good thing I didn't take the full month off before my EDD (even though that meant forgoing some paid disability leave which can't be added on after the baby is born). I've only missed 8 days of work but I'm already ready to go back to the office. Still, I'd rather be bored than distracted or stressed at work!

Smiles, between this and your maternity clothes not fitting, I think we have a lot in common! I broke down and bought a polo, a tshirt and black skirt at ON after my 38 week appt and a long sleeved t at the gap last week. I have a few pants options still (but live in juicy sweats), but shirts are just so tight/short. I think I have 3 that fit properly.

As for being bored. Yep. Thank goodness for the sun. Today I had a pedicure, lunch outside at a cafe and went for a walk to get a milkshake. Tomorrow I have lunch with a SAHM friend and Wednesday I am going to the MOAD museum in SF. I guess we should enjoy being bored, because from all I hear, it might be the last time!!

QOTD: this may be a weird question, but for anyone that has had one, if I end up with a c/s will I still have all that bleeding?

I've been reading, but not taking the time to respond. Things here are still fine. I'm miserable with my sinuses yet again because of the allergy thing. I figure that I started this way, so I have to end this way too. I'm concerned about taking anything at this point since the c/s is Thursday morning. I went and did my pre-admission testing today, which made things very real!

We are finally finished with the babies room :) I think we have what we need, but only time will tell for sure. I'm getting excited to meet the little guy, but more concerned by the minute how DS is going to deal with everything. Any one else have kids clinging to them more now than ever???

As far as a c/s and bleeding, yep I had it last time, but I will say that from what I've heard if it's scheduled your body is suppossed to deal with recovery better, I'll find out later this week. Last time I was induced, had pitochin and then a c/s.

Anyway, hopefully we'll have lots of May babies soon!!! Good Luck to everyone!

Woohoo- Happy May!!

I haven't posted in forever, but I've been reading along. Any guesses on who's the next lucky girl?

I went to the dr. today and had my first internal (ouch!). Only 1 cm and no effacing. I was disappointed but oh well. I may have to try some of these natural induction techniques.

Happy May! (Or as my friend pointed out, no more diamonds for my baby--not that this was really an issue for me, but kind of funny.)

Well I'm officially 40 weeks tomorrow, wow! I'm still feeling really good. I had my dr. appointment today and my first internal/membrane stripping (OUCH! And then I thought, if I think THIS is bad...) but I was surprised to be told I'm 2cm dilated and 50-60% effaced. Since I haven't felt any contractions, my doctor thought it's because the baby is low and heavy and just working it open. Hmmm!!! Oh, and then I got home and peed and a little chunk o' something came out. Nice. I guess that's a little piece of plug? I got a little lightheaded with the reality check, but I'm hanging in there.

clothes not fitting Ditto. Unfortunately, my MIL is now staying with us so I feel obligated to wear clothing. For a few days there I was essentially cruising around in a big shirt and nothing else. It was nice!

bored on maternity leave NOPE. Love it. It's not that I don't love my job, 'cause I actually really do. But I love not being at work too! I just read, relax, watch TV, do projects I never thought I'd do (sorted through some wedding stuff from 3 years ago and finally actually tossed some), etc. It's been nice!

Ok--that's about it. Hope everyone is doing well and I'm looking forward to hearing some announcements soon. Er, am I officially one of the next ones due?? So maybe you'll be hearing mine, but I'm looking forward to all of yours!!!

c/s and bleeding I have been wondering about this! I assumed the bleeding would be the same, but I asked my postpartum doula if she knew and she thought that it was less than with a vaginal birth. I'll add that to my question list for the doc on Wed.

gotta get DD to bed so no time for more shoutouts right now...

smiles33: I found great stuff at PBK today! I went ahead and did the 10% off registry completion, since I don't plan on buying anything else there after the baby arrives...The sales girl offered to change our event date so that I could do the completion, because technically you can't do it before the event date. So now, our PBK registry shows the event date as 5/1 - I wish that were true!! :-) I bought a stroller blanket, curtains, towels, and a pillow...

I had my GBS test and 1st internal exam today. I barely felt the GBS, but my goodness was the internal uncomfortable. Not painful, but just really, really uncomfortable. I'm 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. My midwife estimated his size at 7.5 lbs right now. I've gained 3lbs in the past 2 weeks, for a grand total of 13. I am starting to feel HUGE!! I think I've had a growth spurt - and my clothes aren't fitting as well. I can't get my jeans to stay up for the life of me.

QOTD: this may be a weird question, but for anyone that has had one, if I end up with a c/s will I still have all that bleeding?

I had a csection with DD1. I had "heavy" bleeding for maybe 7-10 days and residual spotting up until week 3. Nothing too bad. But, I had been in labor for 22+ hours before the csection.....think I'll still have PP bleeding with a schedule csection too.

Ohh this thread is much busier then it has been lately. Gee could it be b/c it's May and we're all anxiously waiting our babies.:D
Guess we're not going to follow in the steps of the March and April groups-they had so many babies come early. We've only had four.
HOpefully we hear from Missy soon.

I'm thinking Kim will be next then Standrea.

I have an appt today and he'll be doing in internal. I feel like I've dropped a little and I've got so much pelvic pain/pressure that I just have to be more than 1/2 centimeter that I was last time but what do I know.

flyerwife I haven't noticed ds clingier than usual-on weekends he's all about daddy which is good b/c soon they'll be spending lots of time together. I have a feeling once all our help leaves and I'm trying to nurse the baby that's when DS will want all his loving

Bloomwoodohh now you've got me craving a milkshake. I'll wait until afater I get weighed at my appt for that.

My clothes aren't fitting anymore either. I threw on an old navy denim skirt I had from last time and it was so comfy but not practical with a 22 month old to take care of.

I"ll check back this evenign at my appt.

Come on babies!!!!

Definitely a busy thread for us now!! I haven't posted in a while, but I guess I haven't had much to post!

I've also got an appointment today and it'll be my first internal. Kind of nervous given all the talk about how uncomfortable it is. I'm also really curious to see if I've started any progression although honestly, I feel like I'm going to be tight as a drum. I don't feel like the baby has dropped at all, although I do think that my shape has changed a bit. I feel like my belly is much more oval than round now - has that happened to anyone else?

I've been having horrible reflux for that past few days. And I've also been feeling some cramping. My friends have told me that early labor feels like PMS cramps, but I'm sure I'm not anywhere near early labor so I'm not sure what it is. I still haven't felt any contractions whatsover (at least that I recognize as contractions!).

I think we'll be talking to the doctor today about scheduling an induction although I'm not sure she'll want to put anything on the calendar until after my sonogram on Thursday - they want to see if he's still as big as he was at the last one (in the 90%).

Eco and I put together the rest of the 'baby stuff' this weekend (Pack n Play, bouncy seat, extra car seat for the second car) so we're definitely ready for this guy. Now it's just a waiting game.

Clothes Fitting: Considering that I wear the same thing almost every single day, I can't really comment on this. All I can say is Thank God for Old Navy Gauchos. They're the most comfortable pants ever and since I've been home, that's all I wear. And flip flops - the only shoes I feel comfortable in given the swelling situation. I'm not complaining though - one of the best things about not working anymore is not having to figure out what the heck to wear every day!!

Bored at Home: Me too!!! Yesterday was my first day home from work and by 10am I didn't know what to do with myself. Granted I'm supposed to be "working from home" but I was so careful about getting as many things wrapped up before I left as possible that I really don't have much to do. It's kind of a dilemma - I'm getting paid for the week, yet I feel like I have to do something to show for it. Too much pressure!!

I'll check in after my doctor's appointment.

Oh, QOTD about induction/C-Sections: I'm really afraid that I'm going to end up with a C-section even if I'm induced. For those of you who had a c/s, how was the recovery? And if you were breastfeeding, was it difficult to breastfeed (ie. positioning the baby over your belly)? And if you were induced first - how bad were the pitocin contractions? And how long did it take between getting induced and the contractions starting?

Standrea

Wow!! This place is BUSY!!

I had the breast feeding course last night, and it was great. We watched a video, and had alot of handouts with great information. There is a round the clock lacation consultant at our disposal, and they are right in the room with you right after the birth to get the baby to BF ASAP after birth. We learned alot about the difference between breast milk and formula, jaundice, and development of the baby. There was also a nutritionist there that talked to us about how our diet needs to change, or lack of....It really was informative. NOT ONLY THAT, but they had food for us too!! There was a nice platter of veggies and dip, crackers and cheese, and fruit! Right infront of us 5 preggo's, it was fantastic!! A girl that was in our lamaze class was there too, and we got talking, shes' going to be a SAHM too, so we exchanged phone # and email address's so we can get together for play time with the kids!

Clothes-I'm not sure what fits and doesn't. Since I've been home, I've been living inthe same 3 pairs of gauchos, and a pair of sweats. I do have 3 dresses I can wear too...

Who's next-I'm definately going with Kim!!

Bored at home-not even close. When i get the house finally clean, i turn around, and its a mess again!! I dont get it!! DH is such a slob i guess!! Plus, there are still so many last minute errands I need to run!

I'm jstu over 36 weeks - been having growth u/s every two weeks b/c this bebe is measuring small whereas Nora measured big.

They estimate she'll be about 6 lbs. I wonder if after birthing out a bit 8 pounder, if a 6 pounder will just kind of fall out.

Just got to work after my doctor's appointment. I am only 1 cm dialated --and I told the doctor that I want to wait to discuss a possible induction. It is so frustrating to not be progressing especially when everyone (friends, coworkers, random people on the train, etc.) is asking me when. Today, I have said that I do not want to talk about it anymore. Enough is enough --.

We'll go back to natural methods tonight and see if anything transpires before my next appointment next Tuesday. At that point, they will do an u/s and hook me up to the monitor.

QOTD: Is anyone else feeling frustrated?

QOTD: Is anyone else feeling frustrated?
uh, yeah...39w4d and as of Thursday no more progress since my FIRST internal at 37w (so who knows how long I've been at the same state). Not to mention the possible need for a c/s instead of my hoped for NCB.

Hang in there.

05-02-2006, 08:36 AM
Frustrated? Heck yeah! I had my first internal at 35wks. I was 80% effaced, not at all dilated, baby not engaged. It kind of freaked me out that things were happening already, before the baby was full term. At the next internal 1wk later, I was 80% effaced, barely dilated, baby at -2. One more week, still barely dilated, still 80% effaced, baby still at -2. In addition to not progressing, by BP is inching up some. I have yet to have a contraction. My next appointment is Thurs, just over 39wks. Come on baby!

Work I'm glad to not be home all day, because then I would have even more time to think about how I'm not progressing, but I'm definitely distracted at work. Co-workers, and even random strangers ask about the pregnancy. It's nice that people are concerned and I know that they're being friendly, but sometimes I want to talk about something else. I have the same "it's a boy, he's due next Weds, we haven't chosen a name" conversation many times every day. Can't we talk about the weather? sports? anything else? :)

Despite my frustration and growing impatience, I'm having a hard time trying the natural induction methods. What if they actually work? Am I really ready? Is baby boy ready?

I'll answer this because I am in the midst. Once pitocin was started contractions started immediately. They weren't that bad for me, I did get an epidural about 4 hours in and didn't feel a thing - on the monitor they were intense and frequent, but I didn't progress - Hence a c-section. Recovery has been pretty good. I will tell you that after (literally 1 hr or less) the nurses do a uterus massage - ouch!! It freaked me out, but I had 2 nurses go hard core at the massage. I think this helped my bleeding and recovery in the long run, but short term - it sucked. I bleed heavy for maybe 5-7 days and since then it has been light. I am still bleeding, but not more than 1-2 thin pads a day. Your uterus contracts with BF, so sometimes that hurts a little. My Dr. said I could bleed up to 8 weeks and to come in if I pass a clot larger than and orange  So I guess that gives you an estimate of how much it could be.

BF positioning hasn't been a problem for me. We do normal, football, laying down. The incision is numb/tingling - so some laying down positions are more uncomfortable than others. You also get a wonderful belly pouch (so clear how they could tuck that in). My Dr. says everyone gets it no matter their size, and it will decrease with time.

All in all I found c-section recovery pretty okay, but I don't have anything to compare to. The transitions are the hardest (sit to stand, laying to sitting), so with a crying baby - it can be slow.

Good luck to all the mommas to be!! It is here. . . .

Wow! I can't keep up either! I've been reading along but haven't had much to say lately.

Frustrated?- As of yesterday, YES! I'm over the whole pg thing at this point! It was nice and I enjoyed parts of it but now I'm ready, the nursery's ready, everything's done. I think it's the having to roll out of bed part that I'm most excited to be done with. That could be another qotd:

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg?
For me it's lying on my stomach and standing up without needing support. Oh yeah, the wine too ;)

I'm still working until next Wed although I'm exhausted and have zero motivation but I really want my maternity leave to stretch until August. I have another internal on Thurs but I haven't really had anymore bh and my feet have stopped swelling- odd.

This is an exciting time around here!!!!

Congrats to JennyDinny!

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg?

Definitely stomach sleeping, not having RLS (although I'm sure I still won't be sleeping, but for other reasons!), being able to wear shoes other than my flip flops (and not having sore feet), having a few more clothing options (down to 3 publicly acceptable shirts), a big ol' glass of wine (we're taking champagne to the hospital), and in general, just not sharing my body anymore.

I just really can't wait to meet this little girl. I am getting so excited to see whose features she has. Dh has the cutest little ears, I hope she gets those.

Nettreefrog - yeah, the phone calls and emails have started "is she here yet?" It is getting old.

Guinness - thank you so much for taking the time to provide that response. It is really helpful to know what might be in store. Any new photos of your cutie pie?

milkshake - I forgot who commented on it and can't see that far back, but yeah, it was pretty darn good. Just the right consistency to sip through the straw. It was strawberry. I first decided I deserved one in February, but the weather has been so crappy, it never seemed appropriate. Now I realize it was a good thing I waited because It Was So Good, I might have indulged multiple times with pg as an excuse. :D I highly recommend one to everyone.

Csection recovery/BF - My first labor was 22+ hours long - complete with tons of pitocin, 2 narcotics and 2 epidurals...ending in a semi-emergency csection. The recovery was actually better than I would have imagined (and I hear it will be even easier without the long labor beforehand). I was off pain meds by day 5 and remember feeling nearly 100% 2-3 weeks after the surgery. I had positional difficulties with BF until a lactation specialist helped me with the football hold. Much better for csection mamas. In fact, I ended up liking it so much (its recommended for larger breasted women too) that I did the football hold until DD was nearly 6 months old.

All is well here -- just waiting...

QOTDs

Bored at home? - Not a chance! I am loving it. I have been off since 4/17 and I am constantly busy. The 1st 2 weeks were spend getting the nursery started and finished and getting the house in order (we moved in mid March so there was (is) a lot to do!)

Clothes not fitting? - Some certainly fit better than others. I stick to wearing those ones. I broke down yesterday and bought some men's "A shirts" (aka "wife beaters") and I LOVE them. The weather turned hot here and I couldn't even stand wearing T-shirts.

Feeling frustrated? - Nope. Not yet. She can feel free to stay in there as long as she wants (I know, I'll be eating these words in a week, right??)

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg? - WINE!!!!!!!!!

Had a check-up yesterday -- 1st non-stress test and 1st internal. I am a fingertip dilated, 80% effaced, and the baby is at negative 2 station. I thought "OH MY GOD, SHE IS COMING!" but then talked to some people and realized that none of these numbers mean that birth is imminent. So, I will continue to enjoy my time off :)

One week 'til maternity leave. I cannot wait!!

Frustrated: Yes, very much so. Besides the feet swelling I developed a lovely case of hemerroids. I am not in a good mood.

Clothes not fitting: I'm still able to wear a couple fo shirts and one pair of pants that go over my belly. As for the rest of my maternity clothes I put them all away. Luckily it's getting warmer so my wardrobe has consisted of those items plus some wrap around skirts, 2 dresses, and DH's shirts.

Post Pregnancy: Oh to be able to wear normal clothes again! Also, to be able to sleep in a comfortable position and to get out of bed without help. I also want a Margarita.

I just got back from my doctor with NO PROGRESS!! I'm exactly the same as last week...however, i did gain 6 pounds:eek: !! The mw did try to reassure me that it was all waterweight, since I'm so swollen, and haven't been swollen at all...So, maybe I won't be within the next few ladies to go!! Watch, i'll go well into June now...I'm so ready for this to be over.

I'm really annoyed. I feel bad, but every little thing DH does pisses me off, and i just let him know how mad he makes me. Ugh

After delivery-I'm so excited for a mudslide from TGIFriday's, to wear my cute sandals again, be able to walk the mall without getting winded, sleep on my belly, and to be able to get out of bed without moaning and groaning.

Hello May Mommies! Wow, this thread is moving FAST!

Congrats to JennyDinny! Hope you'll be by soon to post photos of your DS!

QOTD:

Frustrated? Occasionally. It depends on the situation, but I find myself frustrated when I'm feeling big/awkward--like when I have to roll myself off the couch. Plus I'm bored now as I finished the nursery long ago and have even gone back in and added all the extra little things I could think of so that there's absolutely nothing left to do.

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg? I do love my raw oysters, sashimi, and champagne, but I'm planning to BF so I don't think I get to eat those until I wean DD. Someone confirm, please? So the only thing I can really look forward to is sleeping on my stomach again.

I need to tear myself away from the computer, as I have been surfing eBay for board books, Whoozit toys, and other things that Baby J really doesn't need right now.

I did manage to take a 15 minute walk with my dog this morning, but came back early as I'm just not comfortable walking very long (all that pressure and BH too!). I find it's not as distracting as walking a mall, but I'm supposed to be cutting down on expenses. :)

Last night, someone asked about alcohol and raw fish (i'm dumb, i have no clue what sashimi is), and the lactation consultant said you can have everything in moderation. She said that by the time your body processes it, the BM equalizes.

I've heard the same thing about eating and drinking. In fact, I've heard that a beer helps milk production. Not sure if it's true or not, but definately worth a try!

Congrats Jennydinnyhopefully lyou'll come back with pics and your birth story.

Standrea I was totally surprised to read you didn't have any progress. Funny about your dh annoying you. I get so mad at DH in bed b/c he falls asleep so fast and his breathing annoys the heck out of me. It's not like with snoring where I can hit and say stop breathing. Poor guy.

Bloomwood That was me who mentioned the milkshake and b/c of you my dh is off to get me one. Vanilla-yumm can't wait.:D

In regards to drinking and nursing-it can be done just time it right. I belive such a small amount gets into the milk too.

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg?

Like everyone else-sleeping on my belly, drinking wine-in fact I'm going to have a big ole glass of sangria soon after the baby is here. Although I'm sure one sip and I'll be out.
I also can't wait to cuddle properly with my toddler. I'm always telling him be careful of mommy's belly etc.

So I had my appt. today and had an internal and my God did this one hurt. Sheesh. He said I'm 1 1/2 centimeters dilated, I forgot to ask about effacment.

Last time with Josh I was 1 centimeter for two weeks, had my appt. on a Wed. and my water broke Saturday and I showed up the hospital 4 centimeters.

Alright off to get in my comfy clothes so I can eat my fattening dinner and milkshake soon.

(Copying this from my LJ because I'm too tired to post it all)

Just back from the OB. Unfortunately, there's not much to report. They set me up to the monitor again and while we were sitting there (Eco came with) my doctor came in to discuss what's going to happen going forward. She was great because she answered all of the questions I had without me having to ask any of them!!

As I expected, I'm sealed up pretty tight!! She did an internal and I'm not at all dilated or effaced. The exam wasn't as uncomfortable as I had expected, but I couldn't believe how much I bled afterwards. My doctor said to expect some spotting later on - that the cervix is really sensitive to irritation, but that it shouldn't be anything more severe than "panty liner" stuff. Well I got up and there was already blood on the sheet I was sitting on and then I could even feel the blood coming out and when I wiped with the paper sheet there was so much of it that I made Eco go get her because it seemed like a lot more than "panty liner stuff" to me. I was starting to wonder if she'd loosened my mucus plug or something, but she said it was normal for the initial bleeding after the exam. YUCK. (TMI: I was even dripping blood on the floor!!) I can hardly wait to see what post partum bleeding is like.

Anyway, she said that they don't schedule anything before 39 weeks so unless he decides to come on his own (which at this point doesn't seem likely), we're not going to be meeting this guy until the week of the 15th. A lot will depend on Thursday's sonogram and then my next appointment. She said she doesn't expect the sonogram to change anything and if he is still in the 90% then that'll be the last sonogram. Then depending on the state of my cervix at my next appointment we can schedule an induction or talk about a sheduled C Section. If I'm still closed up pretty tight then I think we'll just go for the C. If I'm 2 or 3 cm dilated and somewhat effaced then we might want to try for a vaginal birth (by induction). Of course all of this will be moot if he gets his act together and starts this whole shebang on his own!!

I'm kind of disappointed because I am just SO uncomfortable right now that I want it to be over. But at the same time, it's also pretty exciting to know that regardless, we'll be seeing him in about 2 weeks (I highly doubt she'll let me go to my due date, unless the sonogram has him shrinking or something!) At this point, I'd almost rather have a C-section. I know people say the recovery is sucks, but I'm not sure who "people" are, because other than one friend of mine, all of the people I know have said it wasn't really that bad. And in my friend's case, she was trekking across town every day to see her baby in the ICU, so she had special circumstances. But at least with a C/S, you know what's going to happen and when it's gong to happen and it's over in 1/2 hour and then you're holding your baby. And he doesn't looked all deformed and squooshed.

Otherwise, the good news is everything looks great, his heartbeat is perfect and we're all healthy (albeit one of us is extremely uncomfortable and ready to be done with all of this!!)

I guess I won't know anything more for another week. :(

Hello Everyone!

Well, our suprise baby is here! And it's a GIRL!! Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie) was born on April 28, 2006 at 7:55am. She weighed 7lbs 7oz and was 19.25" long. She is absolutely perfect!

The C/S was a bit worse than normal. I lost a lot of blood- enough that there was talk of giving me a transfusion. Luckily I didn't need it but I am having to take iron and have to have my blood levels re-tested on Friday. My husband said he saw my bp go to 90/42 and that was when he stopped looking at the numbers. But I am home now and feeling much better. It is much harder to recover this time around with a 2 year old in the house.

Here's a ray of hope for all of you with big babies on u/s- Maggie was measuring at 8.5lbs on her last u/s. The Dr's all thought she would be about 9lbs because my first dd was 8lbs 11oz. But she came in much smaller than estimated. So, don't get too upset by the u/s estimates.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts. Here's a picture or two of Maggie-

Congrats JennyDinny and Missy!! Missy Maggie's measurements are exactly the same as Elliot's w/ a c-section too.

Today we had our two week appointment. Elliot is up in weight to 8.2 and has grown 2 inches (someone measured wrong somewhere I believe).

Here is a pic from today - his two week photo with his stuffed animal to watch him grow.

Hi Ladies!

Congrats Missy! Maggie is too adorable!

Congrats Jennydinny!

Had my weekly appointment today. Nothing new- swelling is coming back due to the warm weather.I'm up 500 grams from last Wed. Otherwise everything looks a ok- dr told me to try this "contraction cocktail" that consists of vodka, oj and a smidge of glycerin. I'll give it a whirl- anything to get his lazy bum moving. ;)

What will you be most excited about doing when you're no longer pg? besides turning while sleeping in bed, putting on socks, shoes, heck even underwear without asking P to help me.

Anyone else getting strange looks from strangers? I swear every person I passed in town today gave me the look like "god don't let her go into labor here".

Another question- anyone elses boobies leaking? Man I hope that it's a good sign that he's coming soon!

I did get something accomplished today- bought P a tee that says Midwife (in training), but in German so he can wear it when we are in the hospital.:D

Ok gotta eat. Hope ya'll have a great day!

I am feeling better this morning, but I was very bummed last night after my appointment. My cervix is closed tightly and I'm now trying to think of the positives of waiting until May 23. Unfortunately, I can't think of any at this point. Maybe, maybe, maybe there will be progress next week! Maybe!

I was also bummed because it was my last day of work and that means that I have three weeks with NOTHING (totally not true) to do. I was totally disheartened. But then when I could barely move after my appointment and after falling asleep at 9:30 and basically sleeping until 7:30 (and still being exhausted), I realized that my body just can't handle going into work day after day anymore, which is probably in part why I was so sick last week. Yeah, it might be a stretch, but I'm looking for the positives!

That's what's going on here. Not much else to report.

Congrats and welcome to the new babies and their families!

Congrats and welcome to the new babies!!!

Jarm - sorry you're frustrated! I'm still not sure why they want to induce you at 39 weeks anyway - but at least it's nice to have an end date! Is it just b/c they are thinking about baby's size? And try to enjoy your time off! If you really have nothing to do...well heck, rent some movies or go enjoy the sunshine or something. It will be your last truly alone time for a long while.

Last night DD had some trouble sleeping and woke up with a bad dream or something. I snuggled her and she fell asleep in my lap, so I lay down with her (she sleeps in a crib, but we have a bed in her room for when she's ready) and couldn't bring myself to leave (until my discomfort, since I can't lay down flat anymore, got the better of me) because I kept thinking I wouldn't be able to do this for a long time anymore, since the baby would be needing me all the time. Feeling so sad about losing her only-ness. :(

shortcake - I think they're thinking of inducing fats at 39 weeks. I have an ERC scheduled. I wanted it for the 17th, but they scheduled it for the 23rd. I will be 40 weeks then. There are a myriad of reasons as to why I want to have this baby before or by May 20. My stepmom is coming up for her nephew's wedding and will only be here from the 22-24 and my brother is leaving for his vacation on the 24.

Today I have work to do, as well as tomorrow. I'm still sending DD to the sitter's although now I'm questioning why I'm doing that. I guess I need to get some work done and I'll have the evenings with her.

shortcake I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the same way about our 1st kids. I've been trying to spend more time with DS lately knowing that he won't be the only one soon.

The hormones are flowing here today! I'm excited about tomorrow and worried too. My sinuses are still really messed up, but when I called and talked to them, they told me not to worry about it unless I'm running a fever, which I'm not. Hopefully they will treat the sinuses after I have the little guy.

Congrats to Missy and Jennydinny, the babies are really starting to arrive now!!! Good luck to everyone and congrats!

jarm - Oh shoot, you're right! I'm so sorry for mixing you & Fats up. Hard to keep everyone straight! I totally understand why you'd be frustrated with the c/s at 40 weeks. I managed to convince my doc to do mine on the 17th actually, which is 38.5 weeks, and she was definitely reluctant. It seems like with a c/s at least you should get the convenience of scheduling (since you have to go through the surgery and stuff!). :( I will think progress thoughts for you - b/c if you go into labor they'll just have to do it sooner!

Lolly HAD HER BABY!

from her LJ

Our surprise baby is a GIRL!
Mary Elizabeth was born Saturday, April 29 at 7:27 AM. 6 lbs 5oz and 20.25 inches long!

Jane, or really, anyone else on CC, can you post all of this to my cc journal and to the May Mommies for me?! (For some reason I can never log in to cc from home with AOL. It just never works, so I can't post there. frustrating).

I went to my OB appt. last Tuesday. My BP was up and I had protien in my urine and I was 1 cm dialated. So they sent me for a NST, and to do a 24 hour urine test. I was put on bed rest until last Friday. Then on the Friday appointment my BP was still up and I still had some protien in my urine and I was 2cm dialated and 50% effaced. (but I did lose 5 lbs of water retention weight, yay). So I was sent back for a NST and some more testing. I was kept there all day and around 5 PM was told I need to be kept overnight for monitoring and that I may have to be induced that weekend. We were so not ready to hear that. But seeing as I was almost 37 weeks (I was 36 weeks 6 days) it would be fine. Although I didn't feel prepared because I was on bedrest I was not allowed to go to the two nights of my birthing class (It had started on Wedsnesday).

Well, at 1:30 AM on Saturday my water broke on its own. I wasn't feeling any contractions until I got to about 3cm almost 4cm. Then instead of feeling them where I thought I would, in my belly, it was clear that I was having back labor. And at that time, 3:45 AM, I was giving pictocin to speed things up because of my high BP issues. And that just made the back labor that much more intense. So I opted for an epidural (although I had not inteneded to get one at all) I felt it was OK since I did not prepare myself in any way for NCB. (I'll try that next time and make sure we go schedule class much earlier on). Right after I was given the epidural I was 5 cm, and maybe an hour later I was 8cm. By 6:40 AM I could feel the baby was pretty much ready and by that time it was determined I was at 10 cm.

I pushed for 45 minutes and at 7:27 AM out came this beautiful little girl! I didn't cry like I thought I would. Instead I think I was just in awe of what was just placed on my belly. She has a head of dark hair (from her Daddy) and is just so beautiful. She also didn't cry out load like I thought she would. Her first cries sounded more like a duck squaking.

We came home from the hopital on Monday. DH spent all weekend getting the house ready for when we came home. He set up the PNP, the bassinet, the stroller, installed the carseat, etc.

I'd post a picture but DH isn't keen on posting photos on the internet and sending photos via email. So for now I will abide by his wishes. Sorry.

My mom is here helping out today and we're going to go on our first walk in a few minutes.

I am so in love with our little girl!

Welcome MMH--good luck on Friday!

Anyone else getting strange looks from strangers? I swear every person I passed in town today gave me the look like "god don't let her go into labor here".
Mrs. U: Totally. I'm pretty much avoiding the public now!

So today is my due date. Hmmm... Um, I feel nothing. I'm losing mucus pretty much every time I go pee (when is the whole darn plug finally OUT?) and last night had some funky crampy/back feeling stuff for a little while, haven't felt a thing since! It's so funny, I'm more interested in giving birth before Monday 'cause I don't want to go for another membrane sweep than for most other reasons I can think of. It'd also be kind of cool to actually have this kid this week since I'm ditching the conference that I'm supposed to be in charge of that starts today. But I'm still feeling good and pretty "normal"!

Hope all of you are feeling ok!

CONGRATS LOLLY!! Thanks Attygirl for the post!

We are really starting to pop em out now, aren't we??

I started to have contractions again last night, but they seem to have subsided. I met some of my coworkers for lunch today, and a car of college boys were pointing and laughing at me  ...I can't wait until they get their SO pregnant!! Then I was on my cellphone with my BIL who is in CT, and we were talking about DH and his gun hobby (he loves his guns  , boys with their toys), and the woman in line in front of me (i was at the supermarket) turned around, gave me a dirty look, and said, "I hope YOU aren't shooting a gun"...um, if i was? First, I'm not dumb, do you think i dont know the risks? Why oh why must strangers put their fat faces in your business....errr

I'm sorry for the vent, I'm done!! I need to clean my house and finish up Abbie's room. I think I may take some pictures to post tonight!!

Been feeling odd all day. First my stomach felt all crampy, then my legs and now my lower back is killing me. I know it doesn't mean anything but of course at this point it's hard not analayze anything.
Poor Josh has his 2nd set of molars coming in. He woke up from his nap screaming/crying in pain. Poor guy. Finally calmed down after about a half hour.

The May flowers are blooming! (can't wait to be one of them!)

Jen - I too feel crampy and I am analyzing everything.

Standrea - what a rude woman. I wish your contrax would turn into something!!

Sneezy - sounds like progress at least! Which is weird to write because wouldn't you expect that at 40wks? I hope the baby comes soon for you!

flyerwife - good luck tomorrow!

Jarm - sounds like your body is ready for the break. Maybe it needs you to slow down so it can finish baking the baby!

shortcake - glad you are enjoying your time with DD right now. I'm sure she appreciates it.

Not much to report here, just checking in. Feel crampy and I think more of my plug came out yesterday. the baby is moving around less (of course, as I wrote that, she just gave me a big squirm), and my hips hurt when I woke up this morning for the first time in a while.

I am really looking forward to my dr's appt tomorrow am. I am convinced that at the very least, she has moved down; sometimes she is so low it really hurts down there when she is squirming. I also have this little foot (?) constantly sticking out on the left side of my belly. I think it's cute :)

So, Flyerwife has her c/s tomorrow and MMH gets induced on Friday. Good luck to you! I wonder what other babes will come before the weekend??

We were successful in having an undemdicated/low intervention waterbirth and again, wow is all I can say. I'm also pretty glad that I didn't go past my May 8th EDD because I easily could have had a 9 1/2 lber and almost 9lbs was big enough for me, especially since she was posterior! :p I'm in love. Someone asked about c/s recovery, so I'll chime in, too. I'm still bleeding 2.5 weeks post partum. It's not any worse than a normal period for me. I was off any kind of pain medication (including advil) by 3 days post partum. My c/s rocked! :)

Wow, CONGRATULATIONS TO LOLLY AND KIM! Do we now have more girls than boys? :)

Kristin-- where did you get Ethan's photos taken? My maternity photographer (the one who offered her services free for a Stanford class) offered to do newborn photos but I feel badly using her services again. I know she normally charges over $300 for the photo session and an additional charge for prints....

Anyhow, I had my doctor's appt today and I'm now actually dilated...1 cm. :) I'm also 50% effaced, but that's really not indicative of real progress. So, we went ahead and scheduled an appt for Thurday evening, May 11 to be induced! WOW! I'm hoping she'll come before then, as I don't want to be on pitocin, so I'm going to try more "strategies" to get her out. I've been walking a lot (it helps when I go to the mall as there are some great sales!), doing squats, and DH and I actually DTD last night (amidst much laughter!).

So my bargain buys for today include a Baby Einstein exersaucer on sale at BRU (I think it was a floor model as instead of paying $80, I only paid $56), the Sony 910 monitor system (the box was damaged but they work perfectly), a cute Ralph Lauren romper on clearance for $5 from Marshalls (usually $40!), some board books ("I Love You Through and Through" is sooo cute!), Knock Knock Soft Blocks by IQ baby (these soft blocks with peekaboo windows and some black/white high contrast coloring too), and then I capped it off with BOTH a chocolate croissant and a maple donut bar. YUMMY!

Now I'm going to go putter around the house until DH gets home. Hope you all have a great evening!

Oh Sh!t!

Woke up this morning at 3:30am thinking I was leaking, but I couldnt tell when I was on the toilet. Went back to bed until 4:30am when I was on my side, had a contraction and heard/felt a little pop sound. Went back to the bathroom and lost my lovely plug. At this time I was afraid to leave the toilet seat. Anyways I did get back into bed, woke up with P at 5:45am and had breafast with him. I started clearing up the table and washing dishes when all I could think was oh sh!t- my waters broke, P was in the bathroom and all I could do was grab a towel out of the laundry basket (good thing it's wash day) and stand on it. Been having contractions every 15-20 minutes- so far nothing I cant handle. Thank god I have a birthing ball here at home!

Will keep ya'll updated if I should head off to the hospital.

My plan for today is to get the thank you cards done for my shower. It's so nice out, it's suppposed to hit 80 today, so I was thinking of sitting outside. I also have a couple house chores that need to get done, so I'll probably do them as well!!

Mrs U - Exciting!! Yeah they won't let you go too long with broken water, so looks like you'll have a baby by tomorrow! Wow!

At my appointment yesterday I was a bit disappointed b/c she didn't do an internal (not that I WANT and internal, but I am curious about progress - even though it's irrelevant since I'm having a c/s I'm just curious about what my body is doing, ya know?) because of the low placenta - she didn't want to risk causing bleeding. But everything is looking good, I'm set up for one last u/s on the 15th just in case placenta has decided to go up, and if not, birthday is still the 17th.

Wow - things are moving so fast in here!!!

Congrats to all the new moms and babies!!! Lolly really brings it home for me since we had the same due date!!!

Nothing new for me - I've got my growth scan today but I'm really not to excited about it. I think it's only going to confirm what we already know - that he's a big baby. It'll be nice to see him one last time before I see him in person though!!

A friend of mine just gave birth (vaginally) Tuesday to a 9 lb 2 oz baby boy, so I feel a little bit encouraged about the size of my guy. Still, if I haven't progressed enough by the time my doc wants to induce, then I may opt for the C-section. Induction has a high rate of c/s anyway and if my body's not ready I can only imagine that the rate goes up that much more.

In the meantime, I think I'm going to stop by Motherhood today and buy a pair of sweat pants or something. I thought I'd be happy just wearing my comfy gauchos until he's born, but honestly, even I'm getting sick of them now so I can't imagine how DH feels about them!

BTW - talking of inductions and scheduled Cs, according to my doc, they always wait (if they can) until 39 weeks because even though the lungs are supposedly fully developed at 37 weeks, anytime before 39 weeks there is still a 5% chance of respiratory problems.

Congratulations new mommies!!! How exciting that some of the May mommies have babies in their arms.

Good luck Mrs. U! I hope the day progresses nicely for you.

As for me, just got back from the weekly internal. Week number 4 of no progress, still 1 cm dilated, 80% effaced, blah, blah, blah. I was very excited that my BP was back to normal though. My weight keeps ticking up, but I feel like I'm retaining more water, so I'm not worried. The Dr. pretty much prescribed sex though. Very odd. Today is our 4th wedding anniversary though, so I'm willing to give it a shot, although I'm imagining something more funny than romantic given my current shape.

I'm feeling more mentally ready. I've been looking over my birthing class notes, the Birth book. Clothes for me and the baby are packed and ready to go. Now if only I would have contractions, any contractions at all. Not too much longer...

I've been getting back pain on and off all day. I have been timing it and they seem to occur every half hour (although this time it was twenty minutes). Could it be back labor? It's like a sharp pain across the bottom of my back and it knocks the wind out of me. Anyone have any ideas? The doctor did say that it could just be the position of the baby, but today's the first day they're consistent.

Good luck Mrs U!
nettie - happy anniversary!
jarm - no idea if it is back labor, but hope the pain isn't too bad.

Hellos to everyone else!

Just back from my appt. I am 2 cm dilated and 50-60% effaced (up from 1 cm and 30% last week and the previous two). The baby is still at -4 :( My uterus is now measuring 44 cm  That is up 4 cm since last week. She said it is largely due to how high the baby is and I haven't gained any weight. I have a NST/AFI (fluid level u/s) scheduled for Monday. On Tuesday we'll meet with the dr. to discuss next steps. Induction via cervidil/pitocin or c/s. It depends on the baby's position and my and dr's thoughts. Part of her feels that if the baby is too high the induction on its own may not work and a c/s might be a better plan as it will keep my body from going through too much trauma. I wanted a ncb, but after reading some of the birth stories (sevilla and Mel7dog) as well as coming to terms with the reality of my pregnancy, I have changed my focus to just wanting me and baby to come out healthfully. I will still try to labor w/o meds, but understand and accept that a c/s is a distinct possibility. I am - again - feeling deflated by my appt, but trying to be optimistic that she can decide to come out on her own or as a back up, there is a plan in place.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Kim- What a beautiful girl!
Mrs U- Good luck!

Had my 38 week appt today and I'm 2 cm and 0 station- she asked if I wanted my membranes stripped and if so based on the progression there's a 60% chance I could go into labor within 24 hours. Dh and I just stared at each other in surprise! I told her to go ahead, why not, there's still a 40% chance it won't happen so who knows? That was this afternoon and I've been feeling a bit crampy since but it could be another week to wait, I'm not getting my hopes up. It's hard just sitting around waiting like this.

Hi Ladies, sorry I havent been around much but its hard running after a 17 month old and being this pregnant. Things are going well around here.

I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and I can hardly believe it! Since Lily was born premature and in the NICU for 3 1/2 months is so weird to think that we will be having a healthy baby this time who will be coming home with us. DH and I are over the moon!! I have been going to my OB weekly for about 5 weeks now and also been having weekly bio phsical profiles and everything with Nolan looks good. My repeat c-section date is scheduled and things are getting so close.

At the moment his birthday is scheduled for May 15th at 9am!!

CONGRATS to all the new mommies and babies!

Things are really starting to move in here!:D

Wonder if Mrs U has had her baby yet?

Kim Thanks for sharing. She's beautiful and so much hair.:D

ga girlHopefully the membrane stripping works for you.

BloomwoodI'm sorry you didn't have a good appt. yesterday. You're right at this point it's making sure she gets here safely wheather that's by inducing or c-section. Hugs to you b/c I'm sure it's hard to prepare for something for so long and then be told you might not be able to do it.

nettreefrog Your DH must be feeling used right about now huh with all the times you're making him DTD.;)

Well my mom comes this afternoon so now I am ready for the baby to come. I no longer have the added stress of what to do with Josh. She'll install our car seat (she's a certified tech.)
So this weekend I'll do lots of walking, eat lots of pineapple and do the DTD even though it isn't easy. DH grumbled about being used but he'd better get it while he can b/c once the baby is here it will be at least 6 weeks before he's allowed to come near me again.:D

Maybe this weekend will bring lots of babies.

Maybe this weekend will bring lots of babies.

That would be nice!!

Sunday is 37 weeks for us. I'm starting natural inductions then. I bought a pineapple, red raspberry leaf tea, and plan on making the eggplant parm recipe, as well as eating some spicy food. Long walks and DTD are also in my future  . I think im the only one that DH is begging to dtd...

On sadder news, I have my first (and second, and third) stretch mark on my lower belly. They are REALLY light, but it was still really sad. I told DH they are my battle wounds, and he said he felt bad for me:cool: ...what is that supposed to mean?

I hope we hear from Mrs. U soon!! Didn't she say that we wouldn't hear from her for a week after the baby was born?

No time for individual shout-outs since this is my last day of work and I have lots of stuff to wrap up, but what a cute bunch of babies we May Mommas have had so far!

I think it's so funny that I see that eggplant parm. recipe circulating around CC as that restaurant is right down the street from me. Looks like I'll be making a visit there next week. Ga Girl- If your membrane stripping doesn't work, maybe I'll see you there ;) .

Thinking happy thoughts for MMH, flyerwife and Mrs U! Can't wait to hear about all our newest May babies! Maybe there'll be some more after the weekend, too!

Jen - thanks for the positive thoughts. I really appreciate it.

eggplant parm - I have a casserole defrosting right now. It isn't the recipe, but maybe it'll do the trick.

Induction wives tales - Here's a list of the ones I've been told recently: eat Chinese food, pizza with anchovies, spicy food, pineapple, walk, DTD, eggplant parm, and on and on. I also had a girlfriend tell me her midwife told her to ...ahem... "swallow" as another means...(sorry :o )

I met DH in the city for lunch today. Before I got there, he sent an email out telling everyone NOT to ask me how I'm feeling, if I'm ready, if I'm nervous/excited/frustrated or to tell me I look big. But, to feel free to tell me I look great. No one knew what to say to me. All anyone could say was "you look great" and give me a blank look. It was pretty funny, but I wish he hadn't of sent it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

lowcountrywed- I thought the same thing about the recipe, we're actually on our way there in about an hour!

Well, the membrane stripping didn't really work that well. It did cause me to lose the mucuous plug and I've had more cramping/ tightening of the stomach but that's about it. It was pretty funny this morning b/c the midwife told us if it worked I would go into labor overnight last night so dh and I wake up this morning so excited like it's Cmas morning then we both realize- oh, wait, I'm obviously NOT in labor...it was so disappointing, like we both just expected him to be there when we woke up!:o

Good luck to everyone this weekend, I predict 3 babies....hmmmm....

I'm going with 4 babies this weekend. I think next weekend (MOther's day) we will have a TON!!

Wow, this thread is moving fast!

Congratulations to all the new mommies!
Yesterday's OB flyby showed no change. I still at 0 dilation and effacement. I have been so crabby and miserable this past week. I suspect this will change once work ends this Wednesday and I can finally relax. I think I'm going to go to the bitter end, maybe even past due. DH and I are late for everything, why should DD be any different? :)

DH and I went on a "nesting" date last night. We went out for Japanese food then to container store, then spent the evening organizing stuff. Our closet looks spectacular!! Funny how somehting so mundane can be a really nice time.

MMH, flyerwife and Mrs U: Sending your painfree, happy delivery vibes!

Anyone getting REALLY tired of waking up in the night to pee? Also, I'm starting to think that I will never ever be able to get out of bed again without a big production.

Luckily, I am only waking up once a night to use the "powder room"--as I try to ensure that everything is cleared out before I go to bed.

NEW QOTD: Do you have a feeling when you will deliver?

Thus far, I don't have a sense whatsoever. I don't feel contractions yet --and wonder if Gabriel will make an entrance independently without being removed like my daughter was. My DH thinks it will occur on Thursday --but that may just be wishful thinking on his part.

Nettreefrog-good question. I have NO idea. I would have thought by now, but who knows. The past 2 days I have REALLY dropped, so maybe that's a clue? I also lost my Mucous plug over a week ago.

Nettreefrog Hey due date buddy! Here's to hoping that we both make more progress soon.

Sleep I've been sleeping so soundly that I only wake up once a night to pee. This is great for sleeping, but I'm so achy when I get up because I don't move around at all while sleeping now. My hips get stiff and my shoulders hurt. I'm enjoying the deep sleep while it lasts though.

Delivery date I'm guessing about a week from now. I go back to the OB on Weds, my due date. I'm guessing he'll want to schedule an induction then. I've heard so many stories from friends who say their baby was born the day before their scheduled induction. So maybe scheduling the induction will make labor happen naturally? I know, weird logic, but it's possible.

Visitors No one is staying in our house, because it's really small and I want the time to really get to know my baby with just my husband around. Both our parents are welcome to stay in a nearby hotel and call before coming over. I'm not sure how it will be with friends. Most of my local friends don't have babies, and I think it freaks them out a bit that I'll have one. I'm thinking it will take some time for them to be comfortable with everything.

I am surprised at how many people think they're going to come visit at the hospital. No one is getting a phone call until after I've delivered, but the grandparents and my SIL want to come and a few local friends are angling to be the first to hold the baby. If everything goes smoothly, I have no problem with visitors, but I reserve the right to change my mind. It's our baby, and my body that needs to recover from labor and delivery, learn to breastfeed, and on and on. I'll have no problem telling people to go away, or having DH do it for me.

NEW QOTD: Do you have a feeling when you will deliver?
When they induce me or do a c-section - earliest will be Wed.! That said, I have been "leaking" since last night. I have no idea if it is my waters, urine (yuck), or a new form of leukorrhea. I am having my typical contrax, but nothing new in terms of intensity or regularity. Anyone experience this?? I guess I'll just wait and see if the leaking picks up or the contrax get more intense. Otherwise, I have an appt on Monday.

sleep - omg! I actually went to bed at 11, fell asleep right away and slept until 7! It is the first night in weeks that this has happened. I am so excited and hope it means RLS is gone!

visitors - I don't really anticipate have anyone show up unannounced (like that woman Smiles - holy cow!! ). Most of DH's friends already have kids so they know the drill, a few of my friends will bring food, and I don't anticipate anyone really coming to the hospital. I hope not anyway! Our families live far enough away that they won't be coming until a week or so later and we won't be calling anyone until after the baby comes.

Not much to report outside of my "leaking." I am a little stressed about it and DH is bearing the brunt of part of that. Whatever, I haven't been hormonal at all the entire pregnancy- he can handle it! We're going to BBQ tonight and take it easy. Tomorrow I am having brunch with a girlfriend and then we're having a friend over for dinner whose wife is traveling right now with their two kids, so he is home alone. Then it'll be Monday and I'll be closer to a baby! :)

Bloomwood - I don't know much about the leaking stuff but I would actually say call and check in with the doc - if it is your water they'd want you to come in before Monday. It could be a slow leak - I've heard of that. Could also be urine or discharge or whatever!

Visitors - I am a little worried about visitors but at the same time I know I will like having them. My mommy friends all want to come see me in the hospital, and I don't know how much I'll be up for that. Never done the c/s thing before! Visitors at home are less of an issue for me - I'll be looking forward to them I think.

Standrea: Ahh, there's nothing like the feeling of an organized closet!:)

Sleep: Despite having to get up to pee, I have never slept better as I have the past 2 weeks. I've gotten big enough that I don't need to prop myself up in a complicated nest of pillows. It's great, if only I can sleep all the time!

Visitors: We're only letting immediate family in the hospital and plan to screen our calls when we get home. If anyone drops my unannounced, we won't answer the door.

CONGRATS MMH!! Welcome Ainsleigh!!

That's our first weekend baby!

Michelle-i just emailed you back!

Visitors-we decided a while ago that we wanted the delivery to be just Stan and me, so we can have some special "family time" alone with Abigail when she is born. My sister informed me that they were VERY clear with my mother for their second child that they did not want her there (apparently she stressed them out too much with the first), and so they called her to "watch" molly (who was 16 months). As soon as they left for the hospital, my mother called my aunt to come watch molly, and my mother went to the hospital. So, my sister said she would head to the hospital to stop my mother, because Stan will NOT stand for it at all, and it will get ugly. We decided that we don't even want ANY stress, so we are going to call a few hours after she is born. I informed my mother of this yesterday, and she said "I will be devistated"...well, you did it to yourself. As for visitors, I won't mind, as long as its not all at once. If a few people come here and there, it should be ok. We are also telling the hospital that they cannot release ANY information to anyone that calls to ask, to even let them know that we are there. Maybe we are horrible people, but we think this will be best for us.

I went and got ANOTHER pedicure today, so I'm ready again...

CONGRATS to MMHinCA and welcome little Ainsleigh!

Thanks to all who answered re: visitors. I think we're feeling pretty confident about our policy now and I feel better hearing how others were also pretty firm about their wishes.

So DH and I had another "last gourmet meal" at my favorite restaurant in Palo Alto (it's near Stanford) and I'm stuffed! We were both joking that Baby J may be purposefully staying in because we keep going to eat yummy food with fantastic desserts. In the past 2 weeks, we've had chocolate souffle (my absolute favorite!), chocolate mousse, tiramisu, chocolate cake with ganache, and a zabaglione sundae (which was my least favorite). Afterwards, we went to Whole Foods and picked up the fixings for a fantastic BBQ (tri-tip roast, baby back ribs, corn on the cob) and we're hoping Baby J doesn't decide to come tonight as then the food will just be sitting in the fridge for a few days! I also made sure to pick up some pineapple, since a few of you have mentioned that as a good natural induction method.

Hope you're all having a great night!

This has been my problem exactly. I wake up once or twice to pee (which sucks) but the worst part is the stiffness that I get when I wake up.

Visitors I actually expect to have more people visit us in the hospital than at home. We're delivering in the city where most of our friends live, but our house is an hour outside the city so I don't expect a lot of people to schlep up here just to see the baby. Plus, we'll be having a bris about a week after he's born, so that's really the best time for people to come visit. I haven't even thought about instituting any rules because it just doesn't seem necessary to me. Both of our parents are out of town, so they'll just come up for the bris.

Welcome Ainsleigh - great name!!!

Smiles We're doing the same thing about eating out. Today we're headed to a local B&B for brunch that I have always wanted to try. I feel like it's now or never!

Food: Do you feel like you are eating more and not caring about it? I've gained 12 lbs in the last month. Everyone tells me that you gain the most the last month because the baby is growing rapidly, but I also think it's that 1/2 gallon of chocolate chip mocha ice cream with whipped cream and and chocolate sprinkles I inhaled 2 nights ago. After 8 months of being realtively good, I'm eating what I want and enjoying it dammit!

Welcome Ainsleigh Marie!!!

Congrats MMH and welcome to the world Ainsleigh Marie

Food I can't stop eating like crap. I'm also always hungry. I keep telling dh once the baby is here I'll stop. I am eating grapes right now so when I have that mint choc. chip ice cream I won't feel so bad.:D

Visitors Well my mom is staying with us right now and will be here until the 24th. MIL will be here tomorrow-Thur am but that's only b/c FIL has business in this area. I don't want anyone in the room with us while I'm in labor. We'll call them soon after the baby is born and they'll bring Josh to come meet his little brother.
I plan on taking advantage of the extra hands.

sleep Well I fall asleep w/o any problem but when I wake up to pee around 3 am I have the worst time falling back asleep. IT's so fustrating.

Delivery date I'm beginning to think that like smiles baby ours doesn't want to come out b/c of all the yummy treats I've been feeding us.
It's funny I keep thinking to what I felt like the day before my water broke and looking for those same signs now. It's silly b/c each birth is different. I mean at this point I had already lost my mucus plug and I haven't even lost it yet.

Bloomwood Did you call your Dr. about your leaking?

Well got my pedicure yesterday, bought two pairs of comfy yoga pants to wear after the baby, the bassinett and car seat are set up so we're ready. I'll get DH to go on a long walk with me tonight. We went to see a movie last night ugh not a comfortable place to be when your 9 1/2 months pregnant.
My left foot/ankle is really swollen-never happened to me before.
Dh and my mom are going golfing today so I told him right after he tees off is when I'll go into labor.:D

It's funny how the last two month threads so many babies came early and we've got so many babies coming late or very close to their due dates.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

visitors - This is a tough one for us. If I go to the scheduled c/s, then my stepmom will be visiting. I am going to be bored out of my mind during the day at the hospital because DH is going to be working as will everyone else. It's going to be tough. DH and I decided that it's most important that our family spend time together first. So once we get into the room, MIL will drop DD off so that she can be introduced to her sibling and we'll spend a bit of time together before anyone else is allowed to meet baby M. I am sure our evenings at the hospital will be filled with visitors galore. Last time we were bombarded with visitors at the hospital and people pretty much left us alone when we were home.

eating - I've been trying to do really good with NOT eating, but it's not happening! I have these cravings that are totally uncontrollable. It's awful!

smiles - Ooh what is your favorite restaurant in Palo Alto? I lived there for 7 years while DH was in grad school (and grew up just south of there) so I feel like it's my stomping grounds. :)

eating - yep, eating like crap. Have been gaining faster but I only have 2 weeks left so I'm sort of feeling like who cares!

Fats: I think I'd much rather have friends and family at an organized event like a bris than random visits right after DD's birth. In fact, we do plan to have a traditional Chinese "red egg and ginger" party/dinner one month after her birth, which is when folks are invited to see her. But I know people are going to want to see her before that.

Southlooper: I gained the most weight 1st trimester (10 pounds!) so I'm pretty surprised that in the last month, despite eating like a pig, I've only gained 2 pounds. I think it all evens out, as my total weight gain is just under 30 pounds so far, so I wish I hadn't beaten myself up for that first trimester gain. In fact, my weight at the last few doctor's appts has been "see-sawing" between 1 pound loss, 1 pound gain. Even my doctor marveled that I didn't gain weight after our big 5 course tasting menu at this SF restaurant she is dying to try after I told her about it (Gary Danko, for the locals).

jen1098: What movie did you see? DH is taking tomorrow off and we had planned to go see Mi III. Was it just way too uncomfortable? Since he has the day off, I thought that would be more fun than taking him with me on errands. For instance, you have reminded me that I need to go get another pedicure, as I can't comfortably bend over to clip my toenails myself anyway! :)

jarm: Do you get along well w/your stepmom? Would she be good company? Or would you prefer to be left alone at the hospital? I've been stockpiling all my magazines since March so I'll have plenty to read while I'm waiting to go into labor. I also already packed my iPod in my hospital bag so I won't get stuck with daytime TV (which sucks!). :) Good luck finding something to take up the time.

Shortcake: It's St. Michael's Alley, a charming restaurant near Whole Foods on Emerson.

http://www.stmichaelsalley.com/

It is an intimate little place perfect for a night w/DH or with a group of friends that serves great food, AND it's reasonably priced given the high quality! Last night, DH ordered the Prince Edward Island mussels (Moroccan style) as an appetizer and neither of us have ever had such delicious and tender mussels before!

Hey, where did you grow up? I grew up in Saratoga, which is south of Paly, so I'm just curious.... :)
