R. Kelly slang barred, case dismissed (http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/02/24/rkelly.reference.ap/index.html) CNN
Prosecutors said they had to drop a case against a man accused of trying to accost an 11-year-old girl because a judge wouldn't allow testimony about a slang term involving singer R. Kelly.
Whole article at above link.
I don't think I understand why the judge would disallow the testimony. Isn't R. Kelly's story pretty well known?

It doesn't make sense. I agree, just about anyone who knows R. Kelly, would know what the guy was talking about. Maybe the defense was planning on contending that Carter was only proclaiming that he thought he could fly. :p

I swear, the lawyer for perverts will find any and all loopholes possible, eh? I suppose what the judge is trying to say is that the man didn't clearly show his intent when propositioning the girl?? That is just sick and wrong. Anybody with half a brain can figure out what some 30 year old trying to talk to an 11 year old that they don't know and asking "if they have a boyfriend" was "planning to do."

I know! It would seem clear to me that this guy's intent was to sexually assault a minor.

Right. Like if I told my husband to watch out or I'd pull a Lorena Bobbitt, I think we'd all darn well know that was a threat.
