Since DD was born just 2 days after, I missed out on celebrating last year as I was in the hospital being induced. I want to plan a fun night for us and am curious if anyone has ideas. We drink, but nothing too crazy these days... Any ideas?

Is there a parade near where you live? That can be fun - I love the bagpipers.

Other than that, I would think any Irish pub/restaurant should be hopping! Some places have corned beef dinners.

I'm not sure what we're doing on the actual day. We're having a party the week after. DH is Irish, and I pretend that I am :)

On St. Pat's day itself, DH and I usually go to our favorite Irish pub for Irish music (well, that's what they claim it to be) and dinner.

Then the weekend after we go home to my parents in Massachusetts for a big parade (I think it one of the largest in the country). It's a big homecoming weekend, kind of like Thanksgiving. Saturday night we go out to hear some REAL Irish music and catch up with old friends. We usually go to the parade on Sunday (unless it's too cold, I've given up on getting frost bite just to show my Irish pride :p ) Then we go to my aunt's for a corned beef dinner and if we have time, visit a few other house parties.

I talked to a friend who wants to go to a local Irish pub that has great music, however, DH just informed me FIL is flying in to town on the 17th at 8PM. Looks like our plans are on hold. He's flying in from the southwest and is not one for a "night on the town"... Lucky us. ;) I guess I am making the corn beef at home and listening to CDs. :p If we saw him more regularly I would gladly leave him home and head out, but we only see him once or twice a year.

I would love to hear what *others* are doing... I can live vicariously through you. ;)

I wish I had fun plans to share with you!

I will be spending the day with 30 high school students on a trip to San Antonio. No partying for me!

DH and I figured out a plan to get me out for the "holiday" and FIL to enjoy his visit as well! :D DH will pick him up at the airport; when they get home I can head out with my girlfriends to a party. Looks like all the daddies are stuck home in our group. :p

The day after there is a big parade that we may watch... All depends on FIL.

I'll be trying a new recipe for Guiness Corned Beef and Cabbage then heading out for some green beer! We already had the parade in my city this past weekend so it's almost like I get to celebrate twice!

We ran an 8K several weeks ago, which supported a local Irish center. Then had dinner at a local pub and followed up with music at another local center. Every weekend, we have done Irish-based celebrating. Gotta love March. :D

Here is the recipe:

2 pounds corned beef brisket
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Irish stout beer (e.g. Guinness®)

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Rinse the beef completely and pat dry.

2. Place the brisket on rack in a roasting pan or Dutch oven. Rub the brown sugar on the corned beef to coat entire beef, including the bottom. Pour the bottle of stout beer around, and gently over the beef to wet the sugar.

3.Cover, and place in preheated oven. Bake for 2 1/2 hours. Allow to rest 5 minutes before slicing.

Note: During the last hour, you may put vegetables in the roasting pan as well. Try a wedge of cabbage, new potatoes, onion, carrots, etc. You may need to add a little more beer with your vegetables.

I can't wait to try it!

ETA: This serves 8
