I need help shopping for the honeymoon! I feel like I don't have any outfits I can wear! :o I'm not much a shopper and most of my wardrobe is from college (5+ years ago), so I'm looking for suggestions on what types of things I should shop for. We're going to Hawaii (Big Island for 5 days and Kauai for 5 days) in late March - early April. We're doing a mix of active things (hiking, snorkling...) and just laying on the beach. So I'm guessing I'll need a couple bathing suits and suit cover-ups. What about for other activities? Shopping, dinner...? Thanks!!! :)

I packed a huge suitcase of clothing for my honeymoon in Mexico, and honestly didn't wear half of it!

It was so hot and humid (which I'm totally not used to), so all I could bear was my bikinis, and a flowy cotton skirt and tank tops overtop. Occasionally I wore some shorts. I found that most people always had on their bathing suits and little cover-ups, skirts, tanks, shorts etc overtop.

We were at a pretty fancy resort and in the evening for dinner and entertainment, everyone dressed up. I brought lots of fancier skirts, light shirts and sundresses. I saw lots of gals in dress sandals, but my feet were so swollen and sunburnt all I could manage were my flipflops.

eta: I've been to Hawaii and it's quite humid there as well...that's why I was comparing it to Mexico. I do't know if you're used to the humidity or not?

hawaii is very laid back. you can get away with a couple of casual sundresses for nicer dinners. also, i would bring a few pairs of shorts and capris and several tshirts and tanks. bring one pair of nice sandals, one pair of casual sandals, and hiking boots or sneakers.

I definitely agree that Hawaii is very laid back. We spent most of our honeymoon on Kauai, and I had taken way too much stuff. The thing I wore the most in the evenings was a long sundress I got at a shop there. I would take shorts and sundresses. DH wore khaki shorts and a t-shirt most of the time, with a Hawaiian shirt in the evenings. And sandals.

I agree with what was said. Make sure your shoes are easy to get on and off. You'll be going to the beach and you don't want sand in your shoes. :)

We only dressed up one time in Hawaii. We did not go out for fancy dinners at all as we had a condo and just made our own dinners. In fact, we bought our "dress up" clothes on the island:

Yes, my sister thought it would be fun to dress alike for the luau.

I had a 14-day, three-island Hawaiian honeymoon. That said: I suggest you bring THREE bathing suits! On a long beach vacation, two often can be not enough--if you forget to dry one on your balcony, toss it aside in the heat of passion ;), etc., you may end up with both being damp at the same time. A third bikini solves this problem and doesn't take much room in your suitcase.

I brought a lot of little colorful strappy tank tops that I could wear during the day with shorts, and then simply slip a skirt on at night for dinner. I also brought several light sundresses. Hawaii is very casual but I wanted to look pretty for nice dinners out.

I can't recommend a cute pair of metallic thongs or sandals enough. They work during the day for (shopping-type) sightseeing and also dress up your outfit for night.

Capris also work well for evening. I have a pair of white cropped jeans I wear every time I go to Hawaii.

Make sure to bring a pair of tevas or sneakers for hiking or messing about--Kauai and the Big Island have a lot of nature-related activities and you'll need them.

Finally, don't go overboard bringing along costume jewelry. You'll no doubt be tempted to buy a little something made of shell or coral while you're there!

Michelle, thanks so much for starting this thread. We're going to Hawaii for our hm in Oct, so this is exactly the info I needed. When you get back, you must let us all know what you ended up taking. :D

Actually her wedding/HM was last year so you can PM her for an answer since it doesn't seem like she is checking the thread anymore.
