Snakes on a Plane

Apparently, Samuel L. Jackson is in a movie, to be released in August, called Snakes on a Plane. Seriously.

Has anyone else heard of this? It's just about the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. People are all over it - there are blogs (http://tongodeon.livejournal.com/tag/snakes+on+a+plane) about it, T-shirts (http://www.damnation-inc.com/order.php?item=1), comics (http://wigu.com/overcompensating/2005/09/snakes-on-plane.html), it's even become slang (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=snakes+on+a+plane).

Anyway, here's what Samuel L. Jackson said on an interview on All Things Considered today on NPR:

Snakes on a Plane is, uh, pretty much what it sounds like. I wanted to do films sometimes that excited me when I was a kid and I always liked horror and adventure movies, and when I opened the cover on that particular script and it said "Snakes on a Plane" I was immediately viscerally struck with it. Oh yeah. It turned out to be exactly what I thought. Somebody turns loose a big crateload of poisonous snakes on an airplane and we have to fight the snakes until we get to our destination. It's just one of those popcorn kind of moments where you know you're goin' to a movie, you don't have to think about what's happening, you know what's gonna happen. There are going to be snakes loose on this plane, some people are going to get bitten, there's gonna be some victims, and you hope you're a survivor. You just want to have that experience and excite people who are sittin' there watchin' it. People who are afraid of flying and afraid of snakes are going to have like a double-whammy goin' with that. It's kinda going to be great.

I've read about it in Entertainment Weekly this week. I think they were saying that they tried to contact New Line for an update on the film but they wouldn't say anything, no comment. I think it's pretty funny :)

I saw the trailer at X-3 as well. I was highly amused, and from the laughter in the theater I wasn't the only one. Some people we were with hadn't heard about it so I explained the plot-"Basically, it's about Snakes on a plane." I mean, does it really need any other explanation? :p

Ah, but that is the beauty of it. If you're going to have a movie about snakes on a plane, then you should do it right: give in to the cheesiness and get over the top actors who will have fun with it. If you go in with low expectations and accept that the movie is just supposed to be fun, I think most people will enjoy it.

he's probably a little less over the top. there are some great lines, particularly the one from the ads: "I'm sick and tired of these [&^&^*&^&*^] ing snakes on the [&&*^&^&$]ing plane!" But he does play an agent, so he's kind of focused on saving the day.

Finally saw SoaP last night with DH and two of our friends. We had a great time. The movie was pretty bad, but the entire theater was laughing, cheering and clapping through the whole thing which made it a ton of fun. And like Brandles we were all excited to hear SLJ's line. :)
