Charting Our Course to the BFPs

http://www.ripleysorlando.com/images2/fertilitystatues.jpg
The fertility statues are known to work for some who rub them around the time of possible conception.
It is said that the baby is the most potent part of the statue.

So rub away! :D It's worth a shot!

Who we are:
This is a group of women using charting (temperatures, CM, CP, OPK/FM results, or a combination of these) to try to conceive and, along the way, are learning a heckuvalot about their own bodies! Many of us use a software program to keep track of our charts as well as allowing us to share them with each other. The most common ones are FertitlityFriend.com and Ovusoft.com.

Your threadmistresses for this thread are gymwidow and cowgirl.

To our members:
This thread gets very busy at times, so in order to keep things less overwhelming and a bit more organized, we start a new thread after 5 BFPs. A link to the new thread is always posted at the end of the current thread to help everyone find their way over. The threadmistresses would really appreciate it if everyone would post their updates in Red. That way, if we get a bit behind, it is much quicker to get the thread up-to-date.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Want to join the fun??
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter if you have never charted before or if you’ve been charting to avoid. I am sure you will find lots of help and support in this group.

If you would like to join, CD1 is the time to do it! That way, we can cheer you on
throughout your cycle, rather than 2 days before you test!

Please don't be discouraged by the number of posts in this thread. You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page. Just read through these first couple of posts and post a reply with the following information and we will get you added right away. Of course, none of this info is a must but we like to know a little bit about one another.

Things I Have Learned About TTC
by WC's Sherylb

* TTC is a journey. You will discover things about yourself that you never expected. You will face fears you never thought you had. You will find joy in little things.

* TTC can bring you closer to your DH, or it can pull you apart. If your marriage is not solid, you will find out quickly.

* No one understands exactly what you are feeling at any given moment, but someone can empathize at least a little bit.

* You will experience an emotional roller coaster ride. There will be highs and lows and fast moments and slow. Sometimes you have to wait in a very, very slow moving line. You may not even get the seat you want. It is not always fun, it can be scary, but in the end it is worth it.

* "Just relax" is the last thing in the world you want to hear from someone, but it is OK if you say it about yourself.

* There will be moments when you question your own decision to start TTC. You will wonder if you should wait or if you should just give up. Those are normal. But you will get past those feelings.

* The blue and green turtle likes to pop its head out! You will hear of someone's pregnancy and turn green with envy and blue inside because it isn't you.

* It isn't fair, it isn't easy, and it isn't pretty. But you keep doing it because the reward is worth it.

* You will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Your body will
surprise you and yet disappoint you.

* Some women do get lucky and conceive right away. Others aren't so lucky and have to struggle to get there. Hope you will be in the first category, but prepare yourself to be in the second.

* Once you decide to TTC, there will be babies and pregnant women everywhere! You could swear there is a baby boom going on!

* You will have questions. No one will ever be in exactly your position, so don't be surprised when no one can give you exactly the answer you are looking for. But there are people that can contribute, so don't be afraid to ask!

* Two lines on a pregnancy test is not the end of the struggle. Pregnancy has lots of struggles in and of itself.

- Common TTC abbreviations

This is a list of some of the more common TTC abbreviations. I know as a newcomer to the TTC threads, it can be hard to keep them all straight. I hope these will help, and if anyone has any they would like added, please let me know!

•2WW: "2 week wait" - The approximate time from possible conception to menstruation due date; Pregnancy tests should be taken near the end of the 2WW.
•AF: "Aunt Flo"; Your period; Menstruation
•AFNW: "Aunt Flo Not Wanted"; the day your period is expected to start, but you are hoping it doesn't!
•AO: anovulatory (cycle without ovulation)
•BBs: "boobs"; breasts
•BBL: "be back later"
•BBT: Basal Body Thermometer; This is used to measure your basal body temperature, when you wake up in the morning, after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around; Use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers.
•BCP: Birth control pills
•BD'ing: "baby dancing"; baby-making intercourse
•BFN: "Big Fat Neutral" or “Big Fat Negative”; Negative pregnancy test.
•BF'ing: breast-feeding
•BRB: "be right back"
•CD: cycle day; a particular day in your menstrual cycle (example: CD1 is the first day of your period)
•CL: Cover Line; a visual tool used to separate the low (pre-ovulatory) temps from high (post-ovulatory) temps; a coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation.
•CM: cervical mucous; one of the most useful clues your body can give you in predicting your fertility; it can range from dry, creamy, sticky, or (the most fertile) egg white/watery type.
•CF: cervical fluid; same as cervical mucus
•CP: cervical position; an optional, but sometimes really useful, fertility sign; CP will generally be low, firm and closed before and after ovulation, and high, soft and open during your fertile time.
•DD: "dear daughter"
•DH: "dear husband"
•DS: "dear son"
•DPO: Days Past Ovulation; number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise. (Example: 1DPO is the day after your ovulation)
•Endo: endometriosis (can be a fertility problem)
•EDC and EDD: estimated date of confinement (antiquated, but still used by physicians) and estimated date of delivery
•EPT: a brand of pregnancy test, or, generic for "early pregnancy test"
•EW or EWCM: egg white cervical mucus; the most fertile quality CM; it is slippery, clear and stretchy, like egg whites; also EWCF
•FAM: Fertility Awareness Method; the method of fertility and/or birth control that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile
•FF: Fertility Friend, an online (free, for basic services) fertility charting site (website); (could also be formula feeding; check context)
•FM: fertility monitor
•FMU: first morning urine
•FP: follicular phase; the phase before ovulation, where the egg matures in the ovaries
•FRED: First Response Early Detection (pregnancy test)
•HCG: human chorionic gonadotropin; the hormone that is present during pregnancy and what the HPT's and blood test measure to determine if you are pregnant
•HTH: "hope that helps"
•HPT: home pregnancy test; a urine pregnancy test you can take at home
•IMHO: "in my humble opinion"
•IMO: "in my opinion"
•IUI: intra-uterine insemination
•IVF: in vitro fertilization
•KU: knocked up
•LH: leutenizing hormone; the LH surge is what is measured by the OPKs; this hormone signals the egg to burst from the ovary
•LP: luteal phase; the phase of your cycle that begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period; during the LP, your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy; this is the time when a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining
MBFP Mystery big fat positive- When you see a BFP in someone’s chart but they haven’t announced it yet
•NFP: Natural Family Planning; similar to FAM, but with abstinence during the fertile period
•O, Oing, Oed: ovulation, ovulating, or ovulated
•OPK: ovulation predictor kit; tests for presence of LH surge that usually precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours; these tests are quite expensive and not always accurate (if you take medication or depending on your age); these are optional when charting with FF, but if your fertility data is not clear it can bring more light and help interpret difficult cases
•OS: Ovusoft; charting software based on TCOYF
•PCOS: polycystic ovarian syndrome (a fertility problem)
•PG: pregnant
•PIAC: pee in a cup
•POAS: pee on a stick
•RE: reproductive endocrinologist
•SA: semen analysis
•SH: "sweet husband"
•SO: "significant other"
•SYS, SYL : See ya soon! or See ya later!
•TCOYF: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler; a book and website about charting and fertility.
•TMI: "too much information" - There is no such thing when TTC!
•TTA: "trying to avoid"
•TTC: "trying to conceive"
•TTFN: "ta-ta for now"
•TTYL, TTYS: "talk to you later" or "talk to you soon"

Thanks for everyones kind words about the house we were trying buy. We ended up not getting the house but the story surrounding that is an interesting one. I will try to make it as short as possible. We went through the second walk through, loving it even more then the first time. DH and I went outside and talked about the price. In the meantime the owner came home and went to his realtor (who was in his own car). He talked to him for about 10 minutes and then went inside. Before he went inside we asked him for a picture of the house in the summer because he had offered to show us one the last time we were there. We went in the house, he showed us and then we went to talk to the realtor. We told him our offer and we got in our cars to go somewhere (diner) to write up the contract. Well, we get out of our cars and the realtor looks like he was going to explode. He said he was so upset he didn't know what to do. I guess the initial time the owner talked to him at the car he was telling him that a friend was coming back into town and was thinking about buying the house. On the way to write up the offer the owner called the realtor back and said that his friend was going to buy the house (for 10,000 dollars above asking) and that the owner had known about it since the afternoon but was too busy to call the realtor. So basically while we were going through the house the owner already knew that he wasn't going to let us have it...what is up with that???????? How rude can someone be??????? He realtor said that he is dropping him as a client and doesn't want to work with him again...of course I don't know if I believe it and I am starting to wonder if any of it is true but if it is the owner is a jerk!!!!! Anyway we were disappointed but not as much as we were disgusted by the whole thing. I think the trip to the diner was just a ploy to get us away from the house before he told us about it.

Anyway my stress level was really high last night. Got some sleep but it wasn't as restful as usual so I am hoping that is why my temp dropped a little this morning. If it isn't the reason then AF may be on the way. Although the symptoms I always have before AF are not present like they should be at this point. I guess I won't know till I test this weekend.

Be back later. I am sooooo sorry that I hijacked this thread with my story, I just had to get it out. Thanks...it won't happen again.

Thanks for the new thread! I hope we get our 5 BFP's soon and blow through this new one!

LDS Angel 19 - good luck this cycle!

Deanna1018 - I'm so sorry about the house. Putting in a bid is so stressful, never mind when you have realtors and owners that are less than honest with you. Everything happens for a reason, I bet there is an even better house around the corner for you!

Kimmer - sorry about AF. I have the feeling she may be paying my guest room a visit soon.

polkadot - i hope the charting break helps with your sanity and gets you a BFP soon!

My temp went up a tiny bit, and no AF yet. I'm still going to wait and see over the next few days rather than test. It may just be that AF get here a little early. I've been optimistic, and hoping the HSG would help us out this cycle. I guess I'm still not out until AF shows up, so I'm trying to stay positive. It is hard, though!

Good morning!
Kimmer sorry the witch showed.
Deanna that sucks about the house! I can't believe the owner showed it again knowing it was already sold. Hopefully you'll find another one that you like even better soon.

Nothing new to report here... plugging along on CD65.... will be starting Provera in another week if nothing happens by Wednesday. I did schedule my annual exam yesterday (for March 23) so hopefully I'll get some bloodwork and some answers at that time.
Have a great day everyone!
PS thanks for the new thread!

Happy Thursday Ladies!!!

Congratulations to bunnybeth, QuarterCentury and MichelleRenee!!!

Let's keep the BFPs going!!!

Kimmer sorry about AF. She truly is an evil lady.

Deanna so sorry about the house. The owner seems really rude and just odd -- be glad you are done with him, as it sounds like he would have made the whole process a living h*ll if you had bought the house. I bet a better one is just around the corner.

Okay ladies, I am confused, although this is only my first cycle charting, I wanted some input on my temps from you guys since you know sooo much more than me when it comes to this stuff . For the last week, my temps have ranged from 97.22 to 97.27. This seems like such a small variation. Is this normal?? I have taken my temp at a later time in the day to see if my battery was the problem but my temp definitely was much higher later in the day. I also bought another thermometer to use for my next cycle (its has a light and has a constant beep to tell you you are taking your temp correctly) and after it gave me a 97.3 read today (other thermometer gave a 97.22 read and since the new thermometer only goes to 1 tenth of a degree, I decided the two temps agreed). I am trying to not be my typical type-A self when it comes to charting, however, it looks like that plan will not work;) .

Thanks for the new thread threadmistress!!!!

Deanna So sorry to hear about the house! Real estate transactions are just so stressful -- it's horrible.

So I wanted to do two things before I decamp to Oct. Mommies. First is a slight hijack because I am too excited not to share this. Awhile back I might have mentioned that I wrote a book over the summer (called _Generation Me_, based on some of my research). It won't be out until early April, but it's finally up on amazon! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743276973

(Though with the wrong cover. The real cover is at http://www.generationme.org)

Anyway, you'll be able to see from this why I was so into computing those TTC stats -- I am a geek for a living!! :) Though you wouldn't know it from the number of times I quote _People_ magazine in the book. :D

My other task is to drop off my warm wishes to you all. It has been so great to have a place to go where people understood what I was talking about. You ladies have been great, and I wish you all of the good luck I can muster! Plus a huge load of

wow, we move quick. Thanks for the new thread.

Question, is it going to make a huge difference if i don't temp while AF is here?? I'm at my parents with the kids till sunday night and i left my thermometer at home. Plus, I'm waking up 3 hours earlier that i ussualy do. I'll start back up again on Monday.

Also, if you do temp earlier than usual, is there a method to calculate what it WOULD be at your normal time?? thanks girls

Congrats to all of the BFPs - we're on a roll!

I'm on my way home to visit my family for a long (and much needed) weekend. I brought my thermometer but not planning on temping (no one knows we're TTC) nor am I planning on testing (I'm 9DPO today - will be 13 DPO when I get home). I think I just need to relax a bit and take it easy. I always get myself so hyper around this time in the cycle, so I think that I'm of the thinking "whatever will be will be". After all, taking my temperature at this point in the game isn't going to get me pregnant, right? And after last month's craziness of my temperature skyrocketing AND get my period in the same day (what a cruel joke) I think I'd just rather stay in the dark. So I'll make sure to report back when I'm home from my trip. Good luck to all the next testers!!

Hi ladies. It totally feels like a Friday to me - I wish it were! I'm on CD8, nothing happening. I finished the Clomid yesterday and am so glad. I've been having major hot flashes at night with it and am waking up drenched in sweat. I hope that goes away now. DH and I are BDing for fun and will continue to BD over the weekend just in case I O before I go for my u/s on Tuesday.

Kimmer, I'm sorry the witch showed.

Deanna, I'm sorry the house turned into a bust. What a jerk! We lost the first house we bid on, too, for a reason very similar to that. But we went right back out and found our home the next weekend! Good luck.

mayham, good luck waiting. Optimism is hard to come by sometimes, but I will think some happy thoughts for you!

Mrs R, don't get frustrated! My temps sometimes stayed the same for a few days at a time. I don't think it's anything to worry about. You're looking for a pattern over the course of weeks, not days. Just keep on going and I'm sure you'll see a change.

jeant, how awesome! I will be sure to check it out, it looks interesting! Good luck in your pregnancy journey.

charliezangel, I don't think it's a big deal at all to skip temping during AF. If you do temp earlier, just add .10 for every half hour difference. So if you're temping at 6 am instead of 9, add .6 to your 6 am temp to get what it would have been at 9. Make sense?

ausi2b, enjoy the break from temping. It's definitely good sometimes! And have a great weekend away.

Just reporting for duty. Sorry about AF, Kimmer...I know how it feels!

I hate yall lost the house, Deanna, but I agree with everybody else. That isn't the only great house around. You'll find yours!

I am at CD 18, 4 DPO. I got crosshairs CD 14, which I am greatful for! We covered our bases this month. I will be so disappointed if we did "everything right" and still BFN. I am feeling kinda crappy today...kinda achey like the flu is coming on or something....NO!!! We are out of school tomorrow (I work at a school) but we are due for an ice storm Friday night/Sat morning (in Arkansas we get ice storms, not blizzards or snow storms). It may shape up to be a crappy weekend. At least DH will be home this weekend. He has offcially worked his last night shift! He starts days Sunday! YAY!

CD 30, and I got a + OPK!!! I bought 20 test strips at the beginning of my cycle, and I have exactly one left, so I was feeling like I would never get a +!

We DTD last night, and we'll do it again once DH gets home. I'm so happy to have gotten the timing right despite my long cycle. :D

Should we use Pre Seed? I had EWCM yesterday, but I haven't noticed any today.

charliezangel - I never temp during AF. If you sometimes O really early, you might want to temp just to make sure you have a clear coverline before O, but I don't have that problem. I didn't temp until CD 8 this cycle.

Threadmistress, can you please move me to waiting to O? Thanks!

Unfortunately AF is here for me. My cycle was 28 days which is shorter than they have been (averaging 30-31). But, at least AF didn't have the audacity to show up late, so that is the bright side of things.

mimieliza - That's great you got a + OPK so you know your bd timing is good! I've never tried Pre Seed, so I can't help you out there, sorry. I'm thinking i might try it soon, do you think it's worth it?

Delaney21 - as much as I try to say I'm patient and not obsessing, I really think it's not possible to have a patient 2ww. Hope the rest flies by for you!

Jess71903 - I hope your good timing gets you a BFP this cycle! I know how it feels to think we did everything "right" and then not get the results... I hope that's not the case for you!

gymwidow - thank you for the happy thoughts :) I'm glad you're done with the Clomid for now and can get to the fun part. I know we had our HSGs around the same time, and unfortunately it didn't do the trick the first cycle after for me, either. They still say the next few months after are good, so let's hope that works for us!

ausi2b - have a fun time with your family! That's good you'll take a break from temping... and that IS so cruel your temp spiked the day you got AF last time

charliezangel - sounds like with all of the different factors, you should just take a break from temping while you're gone. If you resume when you're back, that should give you enough days to establish a pattern before O.

jeant - Congrats on getting published! That does explain your little data analysis here at cc :)

MrsR - sorry I can't help you, my thermometer only goes to the tenths.

My DH and I had a long talk tonight about TTC and where we are at. We have decided to take a break from the charting and the trying for now. Over the last few weeks I have been trying to lose a bit of weight and I have realized that i need to devote a bit more time and energy to that before I will be healthy enough to conceive. I'm sad to leave it for now, but I know that when I do get a handle on some health issues, it will be better for me and our future babies.

I wish you guys the best of luck! Thanks for all of the support you have given me the past months.

Thank you for all the kind words concerning the house. I am slowly getting over it. I am still in shock about the owners actions though but that too shall pass. We weren't going to officially look until this fall but we just happened to see this listing and we just couldn't resist. In hindsight I guess we should have  .

Concerning TTC, I am on CD10 with no sign of AF on its way and by signs I mean no spotting and none of some "other things" that would be TMI. Those two "things" would definitely be present right now if AF was on its way. Either way this is a good thing because either a) I am pregnant or b) my lp is getting longer. Also on the upside (no pun intended) my temp went up today.... 98.4 from 98.2 yesterday..not a big temp rise but one none the less so there is hope. Now if I can only wait to test. I will test on Sunday if the old hag hasn't arrived. With my luck I will be the one who has to have a blood test to confirm pregnancy.

Question: What is everyones definition of Nausea? I am have been having morning nausea but not enough to have to use the restroom. I know that the typical rise in progesterone during a normal 2ww can cause nausea but I just wondered what everyone else considers nausea to be. I do notice that as soon as I put anything into my stomach...even a cracker... it feels better for a few minutes and then the nausea comes back.

I get out of work at noon today so I will be back for the midday chat. Have a great morning ladies!!!!!!!!

I think I may have jumped the gun a little bit with my O prediction. Usually my temp drops pretty low and then I O and it jumps back up. I had the temp drop with an increase following it, so I thought for sure I O'ed. But today my temp dropped again. So I have no idea what's going on right now. Maybe I jinxed myself by calling my O a little early.

Congrats to bunnybeth, quartercentury, and michellerenee:) Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months.

I am thinking that I ovulated (had my 2 positive OPK's on Valentine's Day and Wed), but not sure so we will cover our bases one more time tonight. I didn't chart this month. I wanted to take the stress away and not to mention I have been so stuffed up that taking a temp. is difficult. With the HSG and moving onto Clomid if this isn't our month, I just figured I need to know let things happen and quit worrying. However I will temp next month, if my nose ever clears out.

Threadmistress can you please move me to testing week of Feb. 28th. Thanks

Hi all. Some good news = last night I slept with no hot flashes! Woohoo! I did wake up once to find I had kicked all the covers off, but I wasn't sweating. Yay! I woke up about a half hour before my alarm went off and never got quite back to sleep, but I still temped at my normal time and got a higher result. I think I may discard the temp, since I know I was "up" for a while first. DH and I are beginning our BDfest this weekend, just in case I happen to O early, before my u/s on Tuesday.

charliezangel, a regular thermometer isn't the same as a BBT one. Just wait till you're home. During this part of your cycle, you don't need to be as concerned with temps anyway.

Jess71903, good luck during your 2WW! I hope your weekend doesn't turn out that bad.

mimieiliza, great!!! I hope you caught that egg!

mayham, I'm sorry. I hope this next cycle does it. For us both!

Sare, we will miss you. Good luck in your weight loss journey. I've been there, done that and know how tough it can be, but also how rewarding. I'll be thinking of you!

Deanna, I guess nausea to me is just feeling queasy, like I'm going to, well, you know... Maybe the stress of the house stuff is affecting you? Stress like that can cause all kinds of physical problems. Of course, I hope instead it's m/s on its way!

Delaney, ugh, how frustrating. Have you been using OPKs?

jody, good luck in your 2WW! I really hope you finally get your BFP this month!

Boy, I thought I'd be too busy to agonize over this 2ww.

Please don't think I'm crazy. I'm at 5dpo today and having weird symptoms. Lastnight we were woken up by crazy storms around midnight. Realized I had to go to the bathroom. I *never* go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

So I get up this morning and eat my breakfast, only to be slightly nauseous afterward. I fed the dogs, sat back down at the table and proceeded to have a hot flash! My stomach was so upset that I couldn't finish my one cup of coffee - again, that *never* happens.

Seriously, am I crazy here?

Question of the Day:

Do you think DPO 10 is to early to test and get a result?? The reason I ask is because I know I said I wasn't testing until Weds, when hubby was home, but since we are leaving for FL for a month next weekend, if I test on Tues, and it is positive, there is a good chance of being able to get in to see my doctor before we leave.

Ericka_Jarett
02-17-2006, 07:43 AM
Bellefior - testing on DPO10, is not too early for some, but it is for others. I tested on DPO10 and got a negative, I tested on DPO12 and got a positive. I was going to test on DPO11, but was out of tests.

Jenzen01

Good morning, TTCers!

Bellefior - I like to test early and often. :D If I am pg, I want to know ASAP so I can take care of myself. I've decided not to avoid caffeine/alcohol during the 2ww, but I want to quite immediately if I am pg. I'd say test on 10 DPO, but don't get discouraged if it's -.

Gymwidow - I'm glad the clomid side effects are better now. I was looking at your info at the beginning of the thread - I was wondering what led you to see a doctor after you started TTC? I'm wondering, since I O so late and unpredictably, if I should make an appt now or wait until I've been TTC for six months.

No temp jump today, so I'm wondering if I'll get another + OPK. At least that gives us another day to BD. :) I hope I really O. If I get all these + OPKs and then don't O, I'll be very frustrated. Does that happen to anyone?

gymwidow
02-17-2006, 10:33 AM
mimieiliza, I actually ended up doing testing for a totally different reason. While my charts from Feb.-June last year did show that I wasn't O'ing with any pattern, my doc had told me to give it time b/c everything was "probably okay" even after I told him about my odd charts and intermittent midcycle spotting. I called him again in August b/c the spotting wasn't going away - I spotted every day for 6 full weeks without getting true AF. I went for a checkup because of that and they did blood tests and an u/s (Sept.) which showed that I wasn't O'ing and had PCOS. After that, since we had the diagnosis, we went ahead and did an HSG (Oct.) and SA (Nov.) so we could start Clomid. During my first Clomid cycle (Nov.) I was referred to an RE and have been with him since.

I actually feel really lucky now and kind of glad that I had all the spotting issues. That led me to find out we had problems a lot earlier than we would have if we had waited the prescribed amount of time. I think if you are worried you might have issues, it's worth at least a phone call to your doc (and maybe a couple of others) to see what they have to say about doing at least bloodwork. That's so uninvasive and easy to do, I think it's worth it.

Good luck!

Threadmistress: Please move me back to waiting to O

I don't know what's going on. My charts are usually very predictable. I feel like an idiot for calling my O after a temp jump with 2 high temps, but I had all the signs of O and I thought it was it. I'm getting very frustrated. I've been off the pill for a year now and still nothing.

I'm sorry things are so confusing, Delaney! I never imagined this TTC journey would be so emotionally tough. I just thought you had sex a couple of times without any contraceptive and BAM, you get a baby 9months later! I was SO wrong! Have you been to your Dr? I am thinking if it's been a year since BC, you can get your dr. to do some tests or something.

Hi ladies. I haven't been around much this month since dh and i have been out of town. I need opinions on something though...

I don't have a chart filled out for this month since we were out of town for a good portion of my cycle. I know about when i ovulate which is between cd16 and cd20. The latest i could be is 12 dpo and the earliest is 8 dpo or anywhere in between.

This morning on a whim i took a hpt and strained to see what i thought was a very faint line. I thought i was losing my mind and wishful thinking was blurring my vision so i went out and bought a walgreens brand digital. I don't know how other digital tests work since i vowed never to use one unless i tested positive on a different test. But on the Walgreens brand you slide the test strip into the digital reader and when the test is over you remove it. It came up NOT PREGNANT but when i pulled the test strip out i thought i saw a faint line on the test strip.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could a faint line on the digital test strip mean BFP even if the reader read NOT PREGNANT? I could see getting a faint line on 1 hpt but on 2?

I guess i am in a holding pattern until the morning... someone help get me through the wait!

Ericka_Jarett
02-19-2006, 10:46 AM
Just to chime in on the digital tests. Make sure you read the directions. I know on the clearblue easy digital test you can only go by the pregnant or not pregnant, when you eject the test you see lines like a regular test, but you are told to disregard those lines as they are just for the testing. Wait a few days or get a 2 pack of anything test (digital or non, if digital I would say he CBE digital)

Lilla
02-19-2006, 10:46 AM
Dlj Congrats!! H&H 9 months!

ellidew With my last pregnancy, my first (and verrrry faint) BFP was with a First Response. I ran to Walgreens to buy a couple other tests to see if those came up with BFP's as well. One of the ones I bought was a digital. I used the digital and it came up "Not Pregnant" but there was a second line on the stick when I removed it. (I think I was about 13dpo.) Every other non-digital test I took was a BFP and eventually I broke down took another digital that read "Pregnant" after another few days. So, based on my experience and what I've heard others say, I think the digitals are less reliable to use early on. I'd say get yourself a regular HPT and try it again. Fingers crossed!! Sounds like this is it for you!!!

I'm still just plugging along here (im)patiently waiting for the next week to go by. My temps keep going up and each day I have more and more hope that this is it. I have a feeling if AF shows, I'm going to take it pretty hard. Ugh, it's going to be so hard because I'm going to be tempted to test all week!

I hope it is a bfp! I've never gotten a false positive before and would be even more disappointed if i didn't end up being pg. I took an accuclear (and came clean to dh who said "i knew you were hiding something" not being able to lie isn't necessarily a bad quality but it spoils the fun sometimes ;))

I took an accuclear test and it was a BFN. I drank a liter of water about an hour/hour and a half before that so i don't know how accurate the results are. I am going to wait to test again until the morning. That way if i get a second line i have another backup test to confirm!

Waiting impatiently until then...

ellidew- are those the strips from the digital, or the other test? I really hope this is it for you, but I think I have seen a thread before about not putting any stock in the lines on the strips for the digital tests. DEFINITELY go get one of the more sensitive non-digital tests (I like Equate) and test again. From what I understand, those digital tests aren't as sensitive. I don't want to be a downer, but I don't want you to think you're pg if you're not either! Get a more sensitive test and let us know!!! Best of luck to you!

:( Took an accuclear test this morning and it was BFN. I feel so stupid for getting my hopes up then getting let down. When i first took the test this morning the test indicator had a thin white line but as the dye faded so did the line.

Af should be here in the next couple of days. I'll be happy to move onto next month. Well, i guess my sept cruise is still on the calendar ;)

mimieliza hey, that's my b-day!!! I was thinking the same thing, but AF showed and I'll probably O the time of my b-day. I hope you get that birthday gift :D

I went back to temping today, but i didn't wake up until 10am. 2 hours later than I ussually temp. Plus with 4 days of no temping, i'm probably all outta whack. I'm gonna get an OPK tomorrow prob at the dollar store. According to the charts, I shoul start testing on CD12, but last cycle I Oed on CD20, so i don't think I would have enough tests because the standard comes with 7. Would it be a big deal to start testing on CD13??

mimieliza

charliezangel - Yay, a birthday buddy! :) Okay, I O pretty late in my cycle (this time I O'd on CD31). I started using OPKs on CD 15, right after I started having some fertile quality CF. I went through 20 OPKs this cycle. I bought them online, so they were around $1.10 each. I guess just be aware if you tend to O later that you could go through more than one package of OPKs.

I'm always irritated by the fact that the OPKs they sell at regular stores contain seven. Geez, if I could guess when I was going to O within seven days, I wouldn't need the stupid things!

I'm at 10 DPO, took a test this morning, and got a BFN (yes I know 10 DPO is still early). This weekend however, was just weird, as I had some major gas all weekend long that wouldn't quit and major heartburn. Yesterday morning, I felt a slight bit of nausea as I attempted to bite into the English muffin at my ILs, which thankfully went away as soon as I got it down, but it could have been due to the fact that I took my vitamin on an empty stomach. Since my temp went down slightly today, I have a feeling AF may be on her way, but I will be getting some more HPTs to keep in the house (gotta love the self scan checkout at the CVS near my office). This is my longest cycle yet since stopping the BCPs, but it is also my latest O day yet as well, so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

Bellefior Hang in there! Looks like we're at the same point in the 2ww. When do you plan to test again?

9DPO for me and I'm really bumming today. My temps looked so good and then this morning I had a drop. I know it doesn't necessarily mean AF is on her way, but I was just very discouraged to see that after such a temp rise the past week. I am hoping beyond belief that my temp goes back up tomorrow. :(

Hello ladies,

Sorry for being MIA, my BIL passed away last Monday, so things have been a bit crazy. Thank you for everyones thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The family really appreciates it.

Unfortunately during this time AF showed up as well. Threadmisstress - could you please move me to waiting to O. Thanks! I believe I am on CD9 - didn't have much of a chance to temp during the last week or so...so this cycle might be no good.

Good luck to everyone testing!!

Hey ladies. Sorry for no SO's today, I'm just feeling kind of emotional about this whole TTC thing and not that talkative. But I read through and am sending hugs to all, especially Jessie - I'm so sorry about your BIL. I hope you and your family can get through this rough time together.

Today is my CD13 and I had an u/s this morning. Everything looks great - my uterine lining is at 7.5 mm and I have two follies in my right ovary, 23mm and 25mm. I got my HCG injection and we'll do round 2 of IUI tomorrow morning. I'm actually feeling hopeful and optimistic this month, unlike last month. I'm just emotional at the same time. It never gets easier, does it?

jessied1025 I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I will be praying for your family. I just lost my grandfather a week ago, so I understand what you are going through. I also had a tough tim with my charting because of it. I am CD 6 and just started temping this cycle.

OK, I have a q for those of you using OPKs. I am going to buy them on www.saveontests.com. But you can get the test strips (you dip into unrine for 5 secs for result) or the midstreams (tests in a plastic holder and you hold in urine stream for 5 secs). Which do you think are better?? The strips are significantly cheaper, but i want to make sure i get whatever will give me the most acurate results. advice??

(delurking since I'm not charting this cycle)...

But charliezangel I have the strips from Save on Tests and they gave me an accurate result this month. I've used TONS b/c I wasn't O'ing but now I am and they were accurate based on my most recent progesterone test. Good luck.

I'll probably be back to charting next week if I get a negative HPT this weekend, at least I know I'm O'ing now so charting isn't as frustrating. :)

charliez, I just buy the ones that you dip into the cup. For the longest time, I didn't think that they worked very well, because the only test lines I was seeing were evaps. But, the closer I got the the first positive OPK I got this month the lines started appearing. Then I ran out.

So, my advice is to order MANY of them. I used two a day, so maybe that's why I ran out faster, I don't know.

gymwidow, hoping everything goes smoothly for you! This is your month, girl! :D

OK, so being in my first month of TTC, I need some help to keep me level-headed. Granted I've been travelling, but here's how my weekend went (I'm at 8dpo now)...

At 6dpo, my temp dipped by 0.6 degrees and bounced back the next morning - 5dpo, 6dpo and 7dpo weren't on my normal schedule, but all three were on the same schedule, so can be compared as relative.

7dpo - spotting

Way sore bb's - I love to sleep on my stomach, and couldn't the last 2 nights. And I'm not sick, but am definitely queasy off and on. I'll get real hungry, and 3 bites in can't stomach another bite.

Anyway, I'm back home now, so my time of temping will normalize again. I'm trying so hard not to get excited, but it's seeming like good signs to me...any thoughts???

Thanks!

Charliez another vote for using a non-digital pregnancy test. The digitals usually require a higher HcG Level than the non-digitals to come up positive, so if you are testing early, go with the non-digitals.

Will someone please look at my chart and tell me what they think? I've been charting for about 6 months and I thought I had it all figured out.

I'm very frustrated this month. I have a normal 26-28 day cycle, with O around CD 14. I thought I O'ed on CD 17, but then I had another drop in temp. This morning I had a big rise in temp, but AF is due in the next day or two so I don't know why my temp spiked. Am I having an anovulatory cycle this month?

ETA: I messed around with my chart a little. I discarded the temps at the beginning of the month because I was sick. Then I tried putting in a fake temp on CD 23 and as soon as I put in a temp it give me O on CD17. What do you think?

Sorry to those that AF showed up for.

Well tomorrow is 2 weeks since I called the Dr to get Provera, so I am supposed to test in the morning to make sure I'm not pg (even though I know by my charts I'm not!) and then get the pills to kick-start AF. But now this afternoon I had what I would consider EWCM, and for the past 2-3 days I've been having mild cramp-like feeling in my lower abdomen (not sure if it's uterine cramps or not.. they are very mild and vague...) so I don't know if I should wait a couple more days and see what happens or if I should just go ahead with the meds... currently on CD70). What do you guys think? TIA!

delaney-i think that you could be having an anvo cycle and I only say that b/c last week at the dr appt i had he said that women who have normal cycles can sometimes have anvo cycles and everything be ok. I am by no means a chart expert but it looks like an anvo cycle if you compare it to others on FF. I know this is probably not what you want to hear and i know how frustrating it is to think you know what is going on with your body and then to have it give you the finger so to speak....

For those of you following our home search sage…the mystery continues. We saw a for sale by owner” sign on the front lawn of the house that we lost that was supposed to have already been sold. Well, we called and the owner called us back. He told us that he still has a buyer but he put the sign out on the advice of his lawyer because his previous real estate agent could possibly sue if he didn’t show he was trying to sell the home on his own. We also found out that where his agent told us (after the fact) that he himself was not getting any commission in fact he was expecting a 3% commission that the home owner was not aware of. The home owner is (or should I say “was”…he doesn’t want the other home anymore) buying one of the homes that the agent has been trying to sell for awhile so the agent was giving him a deal (or so he thought). Anyway we think the homeowner selling his home to someone else was a ploy to get out the contract (unfortunately he can’t admit to it) and we were caught up in the middle of it. By the way the owner was very very apologetic and said that he and his wife hadn’t been able to sleep for the past few days knowing what they did to us. Unfortunately he didn’t have our last names so he couldn’t call us. He was very glad that we contacted him. He even called us twice yesterday to let us know that there are two more house for sale in his neighborhood. We think the 3% would have gone to the buyers agent but because we don’t have any agent the sellers agent thought he should get the three percent hence the reason why the agent was holding back showing anyone else the house before we put a bid on it. We even found out that is he decided to sell it to us within 3 months of his contract being null and void the agent could sue for the 3% because he was his agent when we met the owner. It is so crazy!!!

Once again sorry for hijacking the thread. Nothing exciting here...just cd3. Waiting for ovulation. Time for work. Thank god it is a short week.

Hi ladies,

Just checking in :) I've been lazy about charting so far this month...I keep falling back to sleep with the thermometer in my mouth and I don't think I'm getting an accurate reading. Today I temped and stayed awake for it ;) I'm on CD9. I'm going to try to be good about temping the rest of the month. I've got DH gearing up for a BD-fest...I told him to eat his protein, he's going to need the energy ;)

Hope everyone is doing well!!!

Thanks girls. I ended up buying a combo pack of O and PG test strips from www.saveontests.com. I get 20 OPKs and 5 PG tests. That should get me through about 3 cycles, and hopefully i'll get them in time to start on this cycle. I'm CD 8 right now and should start testing w/the OPK on CD 12. I seriously sprained my ankle this weekend, so BDing is gonna be tough, but my dr specifically recommended that we don't stop TTC because the stress of not getting PG will make the healing process longer. Interesting...

Hi ladies. I'm all loaded up - the IUI went fine. No pain, just mild cramps, but nothing bad. DH's count was good and motility was excellent. The doc told me to go home and BD tonight just to up our chances a bit. DH said he doesn't mind! I start prog. supps in 2 days and will continue those until about 12DPO, when I'll go in for a blood pg test. Ah, welcome to the 2WW.

Mrs Jackson, thanks, I feel very hopeful for this month!

lege, welcome! Those could all be very good signs! Crossing my fingers for you...

cowgirl, thanks!

bunnybeth, lol, thanks!!! I had a little chat with both the girls and the boys while laying down after my IUI. Hopefully they'll hear us both!

Delaney, your chart is hard to figure out this month. Even without those high temps early on, the low temps at the end make it look annovulatory. I hate to say it, but the only thing to do at this point might be to wait and see if AF shows up in a few days. I'm sorry! I know how frustrating it can be.

ABirney, thanks. Are you planning to go in to your doc for a blood test? Because that would show whether or not you ovulated. Personally, I would want the Provera and the chance to start over with a fresh cycle. Even if you did O this late in your cycle, it might not be a 100% great one since it's so late.

Deanna, what a weird situation! I'm glad you're not wrapped up in some strange kind of deal with this guy.

Lilla, thanks, good luck to you! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

BethIrish, lol. I hope your DH is up to it! (hee)

Hi ladies! Just popping in - I'm on the road for work. Just hanging in here...my temp stayed high today, with a regular temping time. So we'll see...just have to get through 2 more mornings :-) Thanks to everyone for the encouragement & grounding. Now that there's any site of it being a reality, DH has gone from being a little "whatever" to being totally excited. I keep reminding him that this could be months, but he's really cute about it. His mom is living with us at the moment (LONG story  ) and she doesnt' know what's going on, but he's very careful to check any food she makes - like last night she made seared tuna, so he made sure to cook mine all the way through, just in case :)

thanks for the recovery wishes girls. Thankfully, i still have a couple weeks before Oing (well, like 1.5 weeks) so hopefully i won't be in too much pain by then. Today I managed to agrivate it even more. I went to the DR this morning and he told me no work for the rest of the week, possibly into next week and started me on laser therapy. It was just starting to feel a little better today and i could start to move my toes and move my ankle again w/o an excruciating amount of pain. So DH drops me off at home and goes to work (after bringing me everything i need and piling it up by the couch!!!! i love him so much). So around 6:45 my ankle starats to hurt so i was gonna take a pain pill. well last night i took one on an empty stomach and it made me extreamly nauseas so i decided to make my dinner before i took the pill (dh doesn't come home till 9:30pm from work, otherwise i would have waited for him). So I make my food, bring it to the living room, and realize i forgot a fork. So i hop back to the kitchen on my cruches. I'm standing at the sink and i start to lose my balance. I try to catch it and it makes me wobble even more. I end up instinctivly catching myself on my bad ankle...all 240LBs of me coming down on that 1 foot. I shreiked so loud, I'm surprised the entire neighboorhood didn't hear. Then I fell directly on my bum. Needless to say, I am in so much pain and my foot won't stop tingling. SOOOOO, hopefully I o later next week or the week after...it will make things easier.

Okay, if you want to see the ugliest chart ever, go ahead and take a peek at mine. That thing is horrendous! I hate it.

Why are my temps so close to my coverline? Does anyone else experience this? Do your post O temps reflect how strongly you O'ed? I hope not, but I though that you wise girls might have some insight on that.

I'm becoming very frustrated that I can't call my O date at even around the same time every month. It's no wonder that we're not pregnant yet. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, I just wish that my body would stick to one thing. Short cycle, loooonnnnngg cycle. Make up your damn mind. It gets old real fast.

The OPK's I'm using are positive one day, negative the next. I can use one a week later, and it's positive again. I just don't get it.

I think that if we don't end up pregnant this cycle, we're going to take a break from charting. I'll continue using OPK's, and we might try some pre-seed, and possibly the instead cups. We'll see. As of right now, I'm about fed-up with TTC.

Hi Ladies,

I have a little time for a couple replies...

charliezangel Sorry to hear about your little mishap last night. Hopefully with some rest and pain meds you will be feeling better soon. Take care!

delaney Here's hoping that next month is the month for you!

ABirney Sorry to hear that your doctor wasn't in. Hang in there!

lege I have my fingers crossed that you temps stay high and you get a big positive this month!

CD12 for me. I have had major pains in my right side since Saturday. I usually get these pains every month before ovulation, but this month is worse than ever. So far I have been taking advil at 4 to 5 times a day and last night the pain was so bad I could barely sleep! Does anyone else get these types of pains that last more than a day or 2? What do you take to make it better?

Thank you also for all your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. DH has been having a hard time with it this week. I think it is getting back to our normal life and knowing that his brother is no longer with us. Plus he is getting sick. Poor thing!

Hope you all have a good rest of the day!

gymwidow

1 freakin' day past O and already I'm imagining things. I have had mild O-like cramps, but different somehow, off and on since last night, but in the center of my lower belly. It's probably just lingering O pains, but of course I'm already picturing all kinds of magical things happening on my insides! We BD'd last night for added help, but I have to admit it was hard to get into it. I don't feel well this week and all I wanted to do was sleep. I guess this is how DH must feel sometimes when I ask him to perform on command.

DH said he feels really good about this cycle and thinks it will be it for us. I don't want to say that I feel the same, but I definitely feel hopeful like this *could* be it! It's going to be a loooooooooong 2WW!

lege, thanks. My DH went through a similar transformation after we really started TTC. He asked me already this morning when we can test and was so disappointed when I told him not till a week from Monday!

jeant, thanks, rolling in it now!

Delaney, thanks! I see that FF gave you crosshairs again. I hope you get some answers soon!

ABirney, thanks! I hope you can get in touch with your doc today. What's your plan for trying next cycle?

charliezangel, yikes! I'm so sorry! I hope you feel better soon!

Mrs Jackson, ugh, I hate it when my chart looks all wacky like that. I hope this was truly your O so you can move forward one way or another.

jessie1025, I'm so sorry you're having all that pain. Not fun. I hope they go away soon. Continued hugs and prayers for you and DH as you adjust to life without his brother. I can't imagine what it's like. I'll be thinking of you!

Sorry ladies but my home computer is broken so I have not had time to do propert SOs . . . quick question and hopefully I can come back later . . .

Okay, so I woke up this morning at my normal time to temp and discovered I had kicked off my blankets and I was cold. Took my temp and it was very low (96.87).

After I took my temp I went back to sleep for an hour (with my covers on:p) and when I woke up again I retook my temp (jumped to 97.22). I know that for every half hour later you take your temp you should subtract .1 so my "adjusted" temp is 97.02.

My question is which temp should I use for my chart -- the temp I took when I first woke up and was cold or the "adjusted" temp. Since my "adjusted" temp isn't after 3-4 hours of sleep, I was not sure if I should use it . . .

Thanks ladies . . .

MrsJackson - I'm sorry that this has been so frustrating for you. I hate to tell you this, but I am not yet convinced that you have O'd this cycle. It looks like your body is gearing up to O (hence the positive OPK) but its just not doing it yet. SO frustrating! Keep hanging in there and keep us updated. I also looked at your previous charts and it looks like your first chart (or your short cycle as you called it) was what I call a "pretty chart." Were you on BCP before this? Just asking because I had the "prettiest chart EVER" my first month off of BCP and I think it is because I still had the hormones from the pills in me. Just a thought. But I am sorry you are frustrated - I am too!!!!

I am so excited! I think I actually O'd and on CD17 no less! Our BD timing was good, but on the day I O'd, I had a vaginal ultrasound to rule out PCOS. I am just wondering if that will be a problem. Ladies, looks like this cycle isn't the one :( . I've started to spot today and fully expect AF to arrive either later today or tommorrow at the latest (also got another BFN this morning, no surprise in light of the spotting shortly thereafter). I really thought this month was the month because this was my longest cycle yet.

The good thing (only good thing) about this is that we are leaving for a month long vacation in FL on Sunday, and I will actually be able to enjoy a few drinks poolside while I am down there--trying to look at the bright side of things, you know???

I've decided to leave the OPKs and thermometer behind while on vacation, since I won't have access to a computer anyway, so you won't see any changes on my chart for the next month. Good luck to everyone who is testing in the next few weeks.

Hi Ladies!

CC Name: RubberSoul
Me: Ann/29
DH: Jack/29
Married since: 10/22/05
Off BCP since: Jan. 2006
TTC since: Feb. 2006
Charting since: Feb. 2006
Known issues/test results: chem. preg. in Jan.
Current status: waiting to test 3/6 - 3/12

My DH and I were not going to start actively TTC until later in the year, but we had a chemical pregnancy last cycle. That made us both realize we were ready to go ahead and start now.

My DH currently travels a lot for his job. He works in Canada for 20 days and comes home for 10 days. It is not the best schedule for TTC, but right now his schedule is timed right around my O dates if they stay the same (fingers crossed). I also had concerns about being preggo with him being gone so much, but I just don't want to wait to TTC. We figure if we get pregnant we will start looking at jobs around here for him when we get to that point. Does anyone else have a DH with a less than ideal job situation for TTC and being around if you get pregnant relatively quickly?

Congrats Lilla. H&H 9 months to you.

Welcome to our hubmle home RubberSoul. Lets hope your stay is short and sweet!!!

Well, CD9. I had Watery CM yesterday, and today just a little bit of creamy CM. I'm waiting on my OPKs from www.saveontests.com and they couldn't be taking longer (yes, i know i only ordered them 2 days ago!!!) I REALLY hope this is our month. If my cycle goes about the same as last month, i O on my B-day!!!! That would be a killer present. But, we''ll see..my cycle went a little long last time.

Update on my ankle... I went to the DR today and they stoll hadn't gotten the X-rays from the hospital so they took some in the office. He said that my ankle is definetly not broken, but he sees a possible hairline fracture at the base of my second toe. This I figured since this toe is the most swolen spot on my entire foot. It looks like a little sausage and the bottom of it is as round as a decent sized grape!!! So the DR did some laser therapy on it and i left the ace bandage off for the majority of the day since it was starting to itch pretty bad. So then I get up to go make lunch and i tried the step down....YAY...I can walk. Well, hardly, but if i use my cruches i can step lightly on my left foot without a lot of pain. It's mostly just tingly in my heel and toes. My ankle only really hurts when i turn it the wrong way or when i have my foot entirely flat. SOOO, it seems to be getting better. hopefully by monday I'll be good to go back to work because i am so sick of sitting at home!!!!

8 DPO here, I think. BIG dip yesterday and rebound today.

My 30th Birthday is also March 4th and my parents will be down to help me celebrate. Lets hope we can also celebrate a BFP at the same time!

Time to roll around in some of that potent baby dust.

Well...I'm still holding out, but feel like things aren't looking so good...my temp took a dive today (11dpo) and I had some spotting last night. We're planning to test tomorrow, but I'm less hopeful...any thoughts??? Am I right in thinking the spotting and/or temp drop aren't good signs???
