Question for Anne: Are you concerned about the weather for your honeymoon? We're getting married the day after you & have nixed anything Florida / Caribbean for our honeymoon because we are thinking that the humidity at that time would be so uncomfortable and make the trip less fun. We still haven't decided on our honeymoon destination so I'm interested to know your thoughts.

Welcome to all the new June-July-August brides!!!

framboise - Florida is definitely HOT in July, but I'm not too worried about it. I really, really, really want to go to Disney for our honeymoon (when else can you wear bride mouse ears??) so we'll deal with it. Also, we'll be there for 5 days so we'll have plenty of time if we choose to avoid the heat by skipping the parks in the middle of the day. Plus, we live in Virginia, so are used to ridiculous humidity. :)

catch - Not only are we date twins, we're almost color twins!

I know what you mean about the mouse ears! We are big Disney fans & have seen sooooo many honeymooners at both Disneyworld & Disneyland so it is tempting. But I think the humidity is winning in the decision-making procedure. Thanks for sharing your opinion though!

How is everyone coming along in their planning? We ordered the invitations today, so that was a huge relief. I think we're okay on everything else, but I'm feeling the panic since it's 4 months from Wednesday!

I think we are sort of on top of things. We just ordered our cake yesterday, and I'm calling our favorite florist that we spoke to and hiring him today. Things yet to be done are: ceremony musicians, invitations, tuxedos, ceremony wording and readings, booking honeymoon, and probably other small things. 4 1/2 months to go!

Groom: Jason (25)
Engaged: Aug 26, 2005
Wedding: June 17, 2006
Colors: Turquoise and Lilac
Ceremony: Outside in a garden
Reception: Country Club
Honeymoon: Sandals Dunn's River Resort

I have mostly everything done. I'm waiting for the girl's dresses to come in and thinking about getting the GMs ties to match instead of what we picked from the tux place. We have a dj for the reception, the menu done, the cake done, the florist done, the invites are DIY and almost done, the favors ordered, table numbers done. My biggest thing is we need to meet with the pastor to plan the ceremony so I can start on the programs.

So past introductions, we aren't a very talkative bunch of brides.

A friend pointed out the other day that I only have like 5 months left. Of course my heart skipped a beat, because I hadn't really thought about that. And I'm on the end of this group....so you all don't even have that long!!!!

So the other day I made a calendar with the dates on, so I can cross them off, and keep a count down (one of the features I miss from WC).

Hopefully this week, we'll finish paying off our cruise. We'll just have to wait to see how many people end up coming with us, before we can finalize plans for the reception.

I went out and bought my wedding ring yesterday. Yes it is the second one I've bought...I ended up returning the first one, I didn't like it. Hopefully this one will be better. It should be back in like 10 days.

John still needs to get his. I think he has finally decided which one he wants, he just needs to get his finger measure, and then we need to figure out how we are going to pay for it.

I need to find someone to do alterations on my dress. Or at least price around and see if I can find someone cheaper than DB.

*ponders* Let's see, other things I need to do.....find a necklace. I already have shoes and a bra....maybe some cute underwear. Oh, we'll have to start watching airlines for cheap flights.

Yep, I think that is about all I have left to do. *laughs* Boy this wedding is really going to start creeping up on me. It seemed like we had SO long, and now...well it is practically here.

Hope everyone else is fairing well.

:)

Well, our wedding date changed.

The yacht club where we were going to get married burned down last Friday. Bizarre, but true. Thankfully no one was hurt but the yacht club was destroyed. After the shock of watching the yacht club burn down on the local news, we decided to keep our cool and start making calls. We ended up booking a very dreamy country club where we can have our ceremony outside as well. So we're back on track. We'll be getting married Sunday, July 2nd. It'll be a Sunday morning ceremony with a lunch time reception. :) Thankfully, all of our vendors were free for Sunday, so things worked out ok for us.

With that, we're pretty much set. My main concern now is re-ordering invitations. I had already ordered (and received) invitations with our previous info on them. I'm not sure if I'm loving those invitations as much as I did when I first ordered them, so it's back to the drawing board :(

Who knew picking out my wedding dress would be easier than picking out our invitations? lol ;)

Where are you getting invitations from?

maniach
03-19-2006, 03:55 PM
We still have to get rings, too. And purchase tickets to fly up to Ohio for the wedding. Woohoo on that one. My mom is on the prowl for a DJ, so I think that will be done soon. I am about halfway through the first part of the invitations. They are taking forever (DIY), but I will have them done by the first week in April!! That is the plan anyway. That gives me 8 weeks... that's what you are supposed to have, right? Then I have to pick readings, make programs, work out the veil/headpiece issue, get undergarments, get alterations, shoes... the list goes on and on. This is way too stressful, lol. It will get done, though.

I had my first shower this weekend, it was really fun, but I was exhausted by the end of it. I'm down to 89 days now, it's really hard to believe, it's going so fast. I still have to get FH wedding ring and about a million other little things but for the most part, the big stuff is finished. Next weekend I am finishing my DIY invites and getting them ready to mail.

catch, we're date twins! I can't believe that your location burned down - what a shocker! I'm glad that you were able to find another place & that everything is working out to shift days. What was your date supposed to be?

Re: invitations, we're DIYing ours. We just ordered the supplies & will be assembling as much as possible on 4/1 with a few helpers. Our target mailing date is the week of 4/24 - 4/28 so we will still have plenty of time to tie up loose ends after our main assembly date.

Can I play too?

Bride: Andy's Di
Engaged: December 23, 2004
Wedding: August 5, 2006
Colors: chocolate brown & apple green
Location: Vancouver Area park & restaurant with views of the mountains & water :D
Flowers: White & Green Goddess Cala lilies
Honeymoon: Don't know yet :o

Well I think we're pretty much on track:
Ceremony Site: Check
Reception Site: Check
Officiant: Check
Dress: Check
Invites (DIY): Almost check (will be mailed tomorrow - we have A LOT of OOT guests and it's a long weekend here, so we need to give a lot of notice ;) )
Jewlery: Check
Flowers: Check
Centrepieces: Check

So now I feel like I'm in hurry-up and wait mode. We don't meet with the restaurant until June to discuss the menu choices in more detail and FH wants to leave finding a suit until at least June. I really feel like once I get these invites off tomorrow I'll have nothing to do for a while!

I'm going shoe shopping this weekend...so we'll see what I can find!

What I may need some help on is programs...are they necessary? What do you put on them? I never really understood their purpose...

FWIW our wedding is going to be pretty informal & casual. Morning ceremony and a lunch reception with an 'after party' later for those who want to at a friends appartment complex...

TIA for any advice!

Reception Location: Hotel
Flowers: Lots of roses and hydrangeas. Mixed flower and fruit centerpieces.
Honeymoon: Bermuda

Oh, gee, I guess I still have a lot to do. I just ordered the bridesmaids dresses, we need to order our invitations (eek!)- although I have chosen them already. I just got floral quotes and need to send a deposit to the florist. I need to order my veil and find jewelry. Must figure out OOT bags and favors.

I'm having fun listening to possible processional and recessional music. I really like Trumpet Voluntary for my processional.

Andy's Di- your programs really just tell people the order of the ceremony and the participants (i.e., the name of your officiant and members of your bridal party, any readers, etc.). It's nice because it gives people an idea of what to expect.

And thanks, by the way, for reminding me of one more thing I need to do. Programs!

Andy's Di, I am having "multi-purpose" programs. The programs are helpful for letting people know who's who in the wedding party and what the ceremony will be like. I always liked having a program in case there was someone I didn't know in the WP, and to give me something to hold/look at during the service.

We're getting married midday outside, so we're gonna make program "fans" so people can cool themselves off if it's hot.

Here's a link to a pic: http://www.freewebs.com/mariekeandnathan/Wedding%20mag%20ideas/program%20fans.JPG

I got the idea from Better Home & Gardens' Wedding Magazine (Fall/Winter one, I think).

How's your planning going? I sooo feel like I'm in hurry up and wait mode; I'm not too sure what I need to do next...I bought my shoes last weekend so all my attire is taken care of except my underwear, which I'm not buying until July anyway...oh well, I'm sure it will all hit me sooner or later! :p

Does anyone else have any program ideas? I made my invitations from a 12"x12" piece of paper that got cut down and I have a 5" x 10" piece left. My initial thought was to fold it in half and put paper inside like a book and tie it all together with ribbon. Now, I'm not sure. I was thinking about making them long and skinny and attaching sheets with a brad or an eyelet in the upper left corner. Any opinions?

OMG, is this coming up quick. I am so stressed out that I am sick to my stomach all the time and can't sleep, etc, and I am not even really hardly planning it!!!

Smilin13
05-16-2006, 08:00 PM
Just checking it since I'm starting to feel the excitement build......Things are starting to happen quickly, we are at 96 days and counting.
I'm actually beginning to feel like I need to start doing things *laughs* One of the perks of getting married on a cruise ship......there ain't much planning involved.

We have the wedding paid for, the cruise paid for, and the flights taken care of (thanks mom and dad). We need to do our check box list of wedding options and get a final guest count to send to the cruise line. And then save up money between now and then for the reception and then spending money.

I have my wedding ring...I need to get it engraved. We just special ordered John's on Sunday, I need to confirm that and then it shouldn't take more that 2-3 weeks to get it.
I have my dress, shoes, tiara, bra...need to find panties. I also need to get my ass in gear and get my dress altered *crosses fingers*
John needs to figure out what he is wearing and get that done.

I'm currently stressing over a necklace (silly I know) and a hair trial. I'm not sure when to do one of those.

But basically at this point, I think things are going well and I'm holding it together pretty decent. Although ever time I get stressed out, I thank my lucky stars that I didn't have to plan a full fledged wedding.

:)

maniach
05-18-2006, 01:59 PM
I totally was stressing about the necklace. I actually have like 4 necklaces, at least two of which will be returned when I make my final decision, which I can't do until I see them with the dress. I still need earrings though. I want drop earrings, but my necklace is pearl and the tiara is gold and it's really hard to find gold & pearl drop earrings.

Now I am trying to do the programs, and we are having a Catholic ceremony (not mass) and I guess you are supposed to do a Missal, and I don't even know what that entails. Plus, I am trusting my mom to pick the music, and I don't know what it is!!! I mean, I know the processional, recessional, and the unity candle songs, but that's it. I know there is an alleluia and one for the offering of peace, but I dunno what they are or if I need to choose them. I hate not being where the wedding will be. My advice to all planning their weddings, DON'T do a distance wedding! It's way too stressful. Nice in the beginning, WAY too hard at the end.

And we still have to get groomsmen gifts. The best man is easy, it's the other groomsman I am worried about!

I am stressing out... this is hard work.

6 weeks to go- yikes. Still so much to do! The invites are out, RSVP's are coming in- we keep getting gifts in the mail, favors are here, programs are done, dress is at the seamstress, need to buy gifts for the bridesmaids (what to buy?)-

And to top it all off, I live in southern maine, and I now have a flooded basement due to all the rain!

Does anyone else feel like they're missiing something BIG in their planning??? I have seriously been cruising along, almost forgetting that I'm getting married and I feel like evrything is going way too smoothly...

ceremony location
officiant
musician
make-up artist
flowers
centrepieces
rings
decided on tuxes (not ordered yet)

Man that sucks! Good thing you have a back-up! That also happened to friend's of mine and my FH ended up stading in instead! I'm sure everything worked out. Besides, I don't think I want someone like that standing up for me if they seem that disinterested!

andy's di -
Don't forget jewelry, prelude music (for when people are sitting around waiting for you), ceremony music, what song your mothers are going to be seated to, your DJ for the reception, cake, programs, register, order thank you cards, what song is your first dance?, will you take lessons?, shoes, have you booked a hotel where you will stay the first night (if necessary)?

That's all I can think of right now.

ok one thing down - the hairdresser is booked along with the consultation - yeah!

We're having an outdoor ceremony so I'm not too sure whether the mother's will be 'walked' in or if they will just get a special section at the from where they wait?

Thanks for the rest of the items! I totally forgot about a guest book, thank you cards and arranging a cake for the rehearsal (we aren't having one at the reception since dessert is included with lunch! :) )
