View Full Version : What did DH do for Valentine's Day?

I know it's still early in the day.
My DH did his own version of While You Were Out this weekend. He told me he had to work Saturday and even got up at 4 am like he was going to work and then my parents and best friend kept me busy and out of the house from 9 am until 11 at night.
He redid our entire bedroom! Painted, stained the closet doors, bought in tables, vases, pillows, a bookcase, lamps, rugs and everything! It was such a nice suprise. He even painted a design on one of the walls to make it our accent wall. It turned out great!
Sorry- I wanted to edit it and say:
What did your DH/SO/BF or FH do for Valentine's Day?
I am really sorry to those of you who were left. Another one of my infamous spacy moments.

Wow I'm jealous... My FH is at work still, but I'm guessing he forgot it's VDAY. I'll be suprised if he even says "Happy VDay" to me  The man doesn't have 1 romantic bone in his body

That is so nice!! Did he have help?
My DH just surprised me- and I am overjoyed and crushed!
I was not expecting him until 6 or 7 tonight. Our dinner reservation is not until 10 pm. I was cleaning the house in a college sweatshirt, workout pants and cookie munster slippers when the doorbell rang. It was DH. I have on no make-up- I look awful. He was holding a dozen roses and a box. Inside the box were a gorgeous pair of sapphire and diamond earrings. We usually make one another presents for valentine's so this was a huge surprise. I was working on a fleece vest I am making him (which is not finished) and asked about the making presents rule- he said that since he had the jewler make the earrings- they count.
I was planning on heading out to pick him up some prizes after the house was done. All I had for him was a big box of his favorite chocolates.
I am overjoyed with how sweet he is, and crushed that I didn't have everything finished when he got home.

I do not have a DH....
I will cross post from the gifts thread.
We exchanged gifts this morning. BF was very excited about his gift to me that he actually called me last night after buying it saying he was so excited to give it to me and couldn't wait.
He gave me a gorgeous swarovski charm bracelet with heart charms....I love it! Plus a nice heart box of chocolates :)
We will probably go out to eat this weekend since its the weekday and we like to relax at home during the week.

SO is out of town this week! :( I did get a call this morning from him saying that I should go look in his sock drawer. When I opened it up there was a card from him....it was pretty sweet. I will be spending the night cuddled on the couch watching TV with the dog.

DH is going to cook something fancy tonight. He's a great cook. I am so excited to see what it is.

I was going to do a floor picnic, but the prospect of cooking all that finger food was just too much so we had a cheese and wine night and watched some DVD's.

LOL -- we are *so* romantic. Last year, we ordered in a heart-shaped pizza for dinner. He leaves at the buttcrack of dawn, so I usually just get a little kiss from him, while I'm half asleep... this morning, I got a hug in addition to my normal kiss! I told him that on my front seat were a bag of peanut butter hershey kisses for him, and he told me that in his trunk was a big pot of flowers -- as long as I didn't look until tonight!
Lil_Mrs, that is the COOLEST gift I've ever heard of!! What initiative :)

Lil_Mrs: That is a very cool and clever gift.
I got a vase of pink, purple, and white Carnations with a teddy bear delivered to my office.

DH sent my DD and I a gift box to share that had a teddybear, a few pieces of candy, and 2 cookies that you can write on.
Nothing.
(and I'm really not expecting anything either)

That's so neat! My DH would never think of doing something like that. Actually, he doesn't normally do anything for V-day, but this year he surprised me with and left a big chocolate heart for me to find on my laptop this morning with a message penned on the front. That's a big step for him and I was so surprised.
DH just came to my office (a few minutes ago) with a vase full of roses and hydrangeas and a giant balloon. It was really unexpected and I love that he got off early and came and delivered himself. It was such a nice treat. :D

He framed one of my paintings for me and got me chocolates and the special edition Titanic DVD, which we first saw in theatre 8 years ago today.

I already mentioned it in the other thread, but he gave me a guitar! He was so excited about it he gave it to me about a week ago!
I am guessing he'll probably have some sort of a card tonight.
Normally we don't do "big" gifts like that though. We've been so broke in the past that it's been homemade cards and making food at home. One year he fixed my violin which was really sweet! Last year we went out of town. He tried to buy me lingerie but the wrong size was on the tag. That was pretty funny!

Well I've got one for you....
I don't have a DH anymore - I have an ex DH and a guy from HS that I've recently reconnected with and we've been out officially once but we talk on the phone every night - I get a call from reception today that I have flowers -for 1/2 a second I thought it might be the new guy...but NO, they are from my ex-husband :( - OMG!!! What is he thinking???? Do I ignore or acknowledge? I usually try to make the only conversations we have about our kids. I'm totally freaking out about this!!!

Oooh, that's a toughie!
I think I'd tell him thank you for the gesture and leave it at that. And I'd probably not call him specifically to thank him. I'd probably wait until you had some other reason to call and could slip the "thank you" in.

krista- My boss had something similar happen to her today too. An ex-boyfriend of hers sent her a really nice bouquet of lavendar striped roses. She sold them to a driver who forgot about V-day for $5. The guy was a total a$$ when they were dating and always plays the great boyfriend when they break up in attempt to get her back. She sold them just so she could call him and tell him that she sold them.

The delivery guy just showed up with Roses that SO sent to me from out of town. It was sweet of him even though I wasn't expecting anything.

My husband made me breakfast in bed on Sunday morning, and he brought me flowers last night (even though I told him not to bother w/ flowers).
And tonight he's going out for beers w/ a friend while I watch all my Tivo shows he doesn't like. ;)

Well, we said we weren't doing anything because we recently got married and are trying to watch our spending. I came home and had two long stem roses and some Ghirardelli chocolates. I brought him leftover cupcakes from school. Later we are fixing a steak dinner together with baked potatoes and mushrooms.
ETA: And I'll be gettin' some tonight, so it's all good.:D

we'll probably go out to dinner some other night when all the nice restaurants aren't having fixed-price valentine's day menus.

So he isn't my DH yet (that comes in August), but he is my FI and he is so SWEET!
I wasn't being anti-v-day this year, but it is just hard for me to get him things for v-day, because his birthday is in 4 days, and I like to do something really nice for that. Anyway, so I was lamenting about how I couldn't find a good card and that I didn't really want anything, and we couldn't really afford anything. So he decided the least he could do was make dinner. Of course he is a wonderful cook, so I wasn't complaining.
He came home this morning at 7 (from working the overnight) and had bought me a plant to go in a new pot he had bought awhile back. And some yummy croissants for breakfast, and the fixings for dinner.
Dinner was surf and turf. Okay, it was more like a 3 course meal. We had iceberg lettuce quarters smothered in blue cheese, then we had steak, baked stuffed shrimp and roasted potatoes. Then dessert. Strawberry shortcake with yummy chocolate sauce and chocolate dipped strawberries.
It was all delicious. He still did get me a card, which was nice, but he played it pretty low key.
Next year will be our first married v-day, so I told him I would rally and we could do something a bit more special.
:)

What DH cooked: filet with garlic butter, mashed redskin potatoes with homegrown chives, asparagus with some kind of mystery sauce (so yummy, but he won't tell me what it was!) and sorbet with warmed raspberry sauce. Sounds a lot like your dinner, Gina!
Lordy, I'm full! :p

I gave him his gift yesterday (waffle maker, cause he had a late day at work and we had them for breakfast) so he gave me mine: godiva chocolate, card, and a rose. Today we went out for dinner at my favorite pizza place and for the $2 pitchers of beer. yum!

We're going to Gatlinburg for the weekend so we didn't do much. He did give me a Whitman's sampler. He even remembered that I LOVE dark chocolate and got me the dark variety. I was impressed that he remembered that. Also, when I got home from work, I found a note on my pillow that he helped our furbabies write:) With a marker in children's handwriting (complete with the occassional backwards letter), it said, "You're the best Mommy in the whole world. Happy Valentine's Day! Love, Chotchkie (with his pawprint), Sammie (her pawprint), and Bailey (bite marks and rip where the dog apparently tried to eat it).
He's so cute.
DH did nothing! Actually, he bought us some pastries on the way home. Ingrate that I am, I complained they are not the ones I like.
But before I complain let's just say that DH does what he does almost all the time. He (1) woke up before me (I went to bed later) dressed, fed, took baby to daycare (2) came home, made dinner (3) he's doing dishes right now.
So...I don't mind at all! We suck at holidays, birthdays, you name it! I think one time a few days after my birthday last year he bought me some earrings.
Maybe we should celebrate. But really, it's like everyday is valentine's day. He's so considerate and lovely.

DH had left a sweet VD card on the kitchen table for me to find when I woke up. When I came home from work, he had a vase holding a dozen roses in assorted colors that he made for me. Yup, he got colored paper then folded/rolled it in to the shape of roses, stuffed the vase with tissue paper to make it pretty, and tied ribbon around the vase. I am definitely taking a picture of my awesome handmade roses!! :)
I told him last night that I didn't especially want/need a lot of gifts or flowers for VD as much as I just want him forever!

All the men in my family, along with my mother, went in together and loaded all my crap up into a huge truck in preparation for a move tomorrow morning and will also be unloading it all. Meanwhile, I've been tending to DD. It is so nice that I didn't have to load anything. :)

Dh got me a Buddah charm for my charm bracelet. It's to remind me of our trip to China last year. (My dream trip.)
A wonderful card with an even more wonderful letter written inside.
And he cooked chicken marsala.
Then we put together the puzzle I had made of the picture in my aviator.
I wasn't expecting anything (not even a card, to be honest) since we talked about not exchanging gifts. I was just going to cook a nice dinner. I was pleasantly surprised when he handed me a gift bag with a really nice picture frame (he's finally printing some of his great pictures) and a sweet card.

My husband got me some Aquolina Chocolovers perfume and bath foam. I love the smell of that stuff and it's really festive for the holiday. Then about an hour into work I got roses delivered. I treated him to a dinner out which we stuffed ourselves sick...it was good but I feel so bloated now.

He woke me up with a one pound heart shaped box of Fannie May Pixies - he put it on the bed and then had the dog jump up - the dog kept batting the box with his paw which was, according to my husband, "He's telling you it's from HIM!!!". :D Then when I got in the van for him to drop me at work, there was a beautiful flower arrangement which I'm now looking at on my desk at work. We'll do dinner this weekend - the big fancy one was postponed for a simpler one on the weekend.
He's already finished 1/2 of my candy!!! :D
He sent me different colored roses at work and gave me tickets to G-Love. He was supposed to make lobster risotto, but he wasn't feeling well, so I went to Baja Fresh. :D

Three years ago, he bought me pearls (yes very real!): a necklace, bracelet and two pairs of earrings (different styles).
The year after I was going overseas so he sent me a box of candy and bought me a gold bracelet.
This year I went to my car to go to work and found a box of chocolates and two chocolate roses to fill in for the fact that my chocolate covered strawberries were going to get to me a day late by unforseen circumstances. He's truly a romantic. *sigh* :)

celicacutie, you are SO right, and you know what's even funnier? I don't even LIKE Pixies - the only Fanny May candy I like are Mint Meltaways and Trinidads. And he knows it. (And no, I'm not angry or anything - it cracks me up! It truly does. After 10 years, it's almost become tradition - him buying me "stuff" that he really likes. :D )

I got the sewing machine of my dreams. He tried to have 3 dozen long stem roses, chocolate, and a teddy bear delivered to my work, but the company screwed up on the shipping. So he got his money back for that and I'll be spending it on accessories for my new toy.

DH surprised me by driving down for the night - he currently lives about 2-1/2 hours away. He brought me candy, roses, and a card, and then we drove around for 2 hours trying to find somewhere to eat - making reservations is the one thing he forgot! :)
Ok, DH got me a card and a candle. I still know it was an after thought (I gave him his card when we met up to switch the kids).
I just wish he would for once buy me a nice mooshy I love you card and not something related to sex.

FH met me at the door and told me he had hidden kitty sticky notes all over the house and I had to find them. Each note could be traded in for a prize from him...and one was a booby prize (something he wants). He also made a wonderful dinner. I told him not to buy me flowers this year because we are trying to save money or I would have had those as well. I love him so much!

My DH gave me a card before leaving for work (at 5:30AM!). It was a really sweet card inviting me to dinner last night. Then when I got home he had cleaned the house and had another card, champagne, chocolates, and champagne glasses set up on the bar. We got ready for dinner and then he started a nice fire in the fireplace. We had some wine and he gave me the other card, which was also really nice. Then we went out and had a great dinner. When we got home he made me a surprise drink - champagne and Chambord - yum! I was just touched that he planned everything out and really made sure to be super romantic yesterday. The only real "gift" we did was one we both gave to one another - we finally got our big wedding portrait framed professionally after 3 1/2 years of marriage. It is hanging in our dining room now.

We got each other portable radios to wear to the gym a couple of weeks ago, and yes, I said AM/FM radios not ipods :p!! We made eggs and pancakes last night. I had a recipe for heart shaped pancakes, but I didn't read however that you needed a pastry bag to make the hearts, so they were REALLY funny looking.
DH drove out to my work yesterday to each lunch w/ me (that we brought from home), and while there, he asked me if I got him a card. So, I got to laugh at him that he hadn't gotten me a card to which he said 'I can still get one!'. He's crazy. He did get me a nice card that he wrote something cute in. He also got a loaf of french bread, nice cheese and a bottle of wine at Whole Foods that we had as a appetizer. It was cute, but really I was fine w/ not spending that money as everything else about our Holidays these days is trying to be as cheap as possible.

DH got me a Kate Spade bag that I wanted for Christmas but he wasn't able to find. Of course once I got it I just couldn't justify to myself having a 200$ purse so I asked him if I could return it for something else :o. Luckily he just laughed and said yes so I went back today and got a less expensive bag, 3 spring/summer outfits for our DD and some Noa Fleur perfume since I'm almost out.

My DH made me a treasure hunt. There were clues in the 'roses are red, violets are blue' prose. They led me all over the house (even outside) and it ended in the oven, where there was a cookie pie that he made for me with our names on it in pink frosting with a big heart around them. It was such a sweet gift. We decided to be cheap this year for valentine's day and not fall into the consumer rat race. I bought us a bar of organic chocolate and sent him an e-card. It was an awesome day!

Dh is working Security Forces right now on the military base that we work on. So,When I drove into work this morning he called the gate to let them know I was on the way and to be looking for me. When I got there the gate guards asked me to pull foward. When they do this that means that you have been picked for a random vehicle search. So, I pull forward, and get out of my vehicle. As I get back into my car, there were red and white carnations and a card on my passenger seat was . :D Talk about sneaky! We are also going to South Haven, MI (a lake town on Lake Michigan
tomorrow because our anniversary is the 15th so we usually combine a big trip to same money. I can't wait because it is suppose to snow there this weekend and I think we have a fireplace in our room! I can't wait to snuggle up by the fire and keep warm!

DH got me a goodie basket with chocolates and bath stuff, and a cute stuffed animal. I think the sweetest thing is that every year he also gets something for my DD for VD...this year it was candy, flowers and a stuffed animal (he bought me 32 red roses last week for no reason). He always remembers "his girls" as he calls us.
I paid the balance on his fishing sunglasses. He had a GC for $50 and the sunglasses were $150, so I paid the $100 for them. Which is stupid because we have a joint account. Oh well. :)
We are going out to dinner tonight since we both had other things to do this week. He won't tell me where we are going though.

Congrats for finding a man who will buy Kate Spade!! I'm the one who sneaks and buys and hides in the closet . . . mwahaha.
I'm a little late - just found the thread!
We decided to do the Vday dinner thing the night before to avoid the crowds . . . a favorite Italian place, and by the time he came home from work apparently he couldn't wait to give me the present either . . .
He had brought home a box the week before, all prettily tied with a big red bow . . . and apparently he'd forgotten that he'd given me a box wrapped by the SeatbeltBag people before . . . so I guessed . . .
Well, he took the box back to work with him the next day, all in a huff, and made this huge deal of subterfuge about returning the present. Monday night, he shows up with the same white box and red bow . . . and wanted me to open right away . . .
I open, expecting the SeatbeltBag, but no . . . it was a pink razr (the light pink, not the horrid parishilton-magenta) . . . we switched over the phones (he has a friend who owns a Verizon store), then went to the car.
He opened the door for me and there was a red gift bag on the seat . . . and THERE was the tough love mini baguette. I KNEW it! I had guessed correctly and he couldn't stand to have his surprise spoiled . . . at the v.least, he thought, he could throw me off!
Sigh. So now my cell phone and purse match. How proper of me :-)
And then the next day, actual V-day, the UPS man showed up with a box of Godiva G . . .Oh, G is heaven. I can't wait for it to come out again at Christmas!
Yay for girlie holidays :-)

This year he gave me a list of recipes he wanted to try out and taste. We then went shopping for the ingredients and cooked a 5 course meal together. It was fun to look a his face when I made him his first apple cobbler a la mode(diabetic version). He is diabetic so dessert for him are a rear treat. It was a great day for us!
