I am at a total loss. I know I only have tonight to go shopping, but I need ideas! We went away for the weekend and had a lovely time, but I want to get something small for DH. He deserves the world, but would settle for a little thoughtful something.
Any suggestions?
I tried searching and could not find a thread about this...

DH and I agreed that the $$$ computer I got for xmas counts towards all the holidays this year, so I'm only going to get him something small so he doesn't feel awkward not giving me anything. I think I'll get those new Hershey's kisses with peanut butter.

DH and I got tickets to see Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill to double as Valentine's & Anniversary gifts.
But I'm going to pick him up a card and box of chocolates to give him tomorrow and cook him a nice dinner :)

Gayle, are you having them delivered or delivering them yourself? I would love to do this, but DH would be so embarrassed- which seems even MORE of a reason to do it. ;)
brunch the sunday after v-day and then a couples massage.Sounds so niceKarina!!! If we hadn't blown so much $$ this past weekend, I would *totally* copy you. Have fun!
Not very romantic but a North Face Jacket Now that is what I need!!! :D
I think I'll get those new Hershey's kisses with peanut butter. Will you wrap them any special way or just keep them in the bag? I need some creative ideas- which normally is not a problem, but I am just clueless.
Thank you all for replying! Anyone else have good ideas?

Nothing! :( Actually, SO is out of town for the whole week (bummer, I know) so we won't be celebrating. It wouldn't surprise me if he sent me flowers but I'm not expecting anything. We will probably go out to dinner when he gets back into town.

I was actually thinking about gluing some to the card, which is a reference to the fact that I did the same thing for our three-month anniversary in high school. Not sure if that will help you, though.

I do have to say...the hershey's kisses w/ peanut butter are good. Nearly ate the whole bag already :D
A card, some peanut butter filled hearts in the card, and a little bear. (It "hugs" the bear that I am giving DS. I thought they were cute.)
We are planning a weekend trip to NYC for my birthday which is gettingto be expensive so we said ahead of time we would only do small things.
I bought DS the shrek DVD for valentines day.

Sugar cookies. Although I might end up eating them myself - he's been so sick with bronchitis/sinusitis since last week and can barely eat a piece of toast before getting nauseated. He loves sugar cookies so I hope he at least gets those down.
Obviously not expecting anything myself, I suspect DS wants to buy some flowers for his mama, though ;)

We always make something for Valentine's and for every holiday I get him either underwear or socks (they are his favorite "things" in the world).
I got DH some boxers- most the practical cotton ones and one pair of the silky "sexy" ones. Also I made a super hero monkey and a cave man bear for him.

We generally don't do anything in particular on V-day. I got him a couple of cards - one from me and one from the cat. Other than that we probably won't do anything. We certainly aren't doing chocolates since we're both on diets. :)

Since we dont have much money this V-Day, I decided I would make supper, and open a nice bottle of red wine.
And then I will buy some massage lotion and give him a nice massage myself, for his "gift".
He Always wants a massage, but I hate massaging, so this will be great for him:p
This might be something you could do?
And I am not a cook myself, so i was thinking of making something easy on myself.....either Shepards Pie or spagetti:p

We both got to work tomorrow, so it will be a little hectic. On Tuesday mornings, I am out of the house before he even wakes up. Tomorrow morning, I am going out early to get him fresh Hot Bagels for a surprise breakfast. I'll set the table real nice (already got a heart shaped platter) so he'll be surprised when he wakes up. I also plan to leave a trail of Hershey kisses on the floor (I got the caramel ones, but the PB ones looked good too) and a homemade sign - "I kiss the ground you walk on."
When we get home at the end of the day, I'll prepare the house with candles and nice music. He is going to bring home Cheesecake Factory-To-Go.
I bought him a card, and much needed socks and underwear wrapped up in pretty pink paper. But, our gift is more about enjoying a nice dinner at home together.

I'm going to make brownies and I think I am going to steal Kinetic's idea and twist it a little. DH loves donuts so maybe I can run to Dunkin Donuts and get him a couple of his favorite and leave out for when he wakes up. I can't put kisses down, even though it is a cute idea, because the dog will get to the first! I might scatter them all over his desk though!
Oh and I'm also making him his favorite dinner (that I hate making because it makes too many dishes dirty and everything gets done at once)- a big breakfast. I'm going to borrow my mom's heart shaped waffle maker. hehehe
And make a card
One year I painted "I heart Paul" really huge in the snow outside our apartment. It took him forever to see it, I kept sending him out to the car and finally I just had to point to it! It took up the WHOLE yard too!! BTW, he loved it, he thought it was so cute!

He needs some new shorts for work, so I'm going to get a couple of pairs of those. I'm going to make Chicken Cordon Bleu (his favorite) and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. We're trying to celebrate on a budget this year! :)
I got him a card (not that he deserves it ;) )
He has to work Tuesday so I will only see him for about a minute when we exchange the kids (my sons have Boy Scouts tomorrow night).

I made dinner reservations for us. I don't know if I'll get anything else too, but I do need to at least get him a card! He already got my gift like a week ago. (A guitar!) It's actually not just my Valentine's Day gift, but our "anniversary" gift! We met 2 days after Valentine's Day. So, we sort of celebrate 2/16 too. I know, we are so cheesy to even celebrate that since we're now married!
ETA:
When I called to make the reservation, the guy asked me if it was my gift to him or the other way around! I laughed and said it was my treat (since I already got my gift) but that when you're married it really doesn't matter since your money is just shared anyway.
I am excited though. It's a nice Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood and apparently there will be live music!

I got a puzzle (with a matching picture tin) made with the picture of us in my avitor. Also got him the magazine that our picture was recently published in. Made him a card.

We're making a romantic dinner at home tomorrow night. I've already pulled out every candle I can find.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ellen's standup. I almost peed myself watching her one special a few years back. Also, Jerry's is hilarious but I know he was just in Philly the other night...so that's out. Lewis Black was in Wilmington late last year I think. I wanted to send my parents (because they are big fans) but it was a Thursday night. So random...wish it were on a Saturday night!
Or Kathy Griffin...she's a trip!
Sorry, that was a ramble!!

DH and I did V-day Sunday Because he has to work late tonight. I bought him an XBOX 360!!! He's been begging for one since they came out and we really couldn't afford it. He got some B-day money and had asked me to deposit the checks. Well, since i'm the one w/the checkbook, i secretly cashed the checks and when I got our tax check, i went and bought him the Xbox. He was sooooooooooo excited. I think he almost cried, lol.

Last night I went and bought him some dress pants, dress shirt, tie, and dress socks. (Because he recently was complaining he had "nothing" to wear.) The socks and tie were way on sale though which was cool! I don't think we normally go all out with a lot of gifts or anything (usually we're both dead broke) but I happened to have some money in my account, so I figured why not? (And the guitar he bought, he did that about a week or so ago as an early gift. He too had the money in his account and he just had to buy the thing that day. He was too excited to not show it to me, so I got it early!)

I'm all about small presents. Here's what I got DH this year, courtesy of Target:
--an organic candle (we like candles)
--face scrub that he would never buy himself, but he likes it (it's Neutrogena for men or somesuch)
--Homer Simpson boxers
--a card
--probably something I'm forgetting, since I hid it all in the trunk of my car.
From the dog:
--Snoopy boxers--it's become a weird tradition that I get him boxers with dogs on them from our dog. The weird part is I can always find them: Snoopy, Scooby Doo, or random dogs.
--a card w/ a dog on it
Typically we might make a nice dinner or something, but we usually don't go out.

I'm in the "thinking nothing" camp too. I thought I might be inspired by "something small" too, but last night, well...let's just say I wasn't inspired. :D
Seriously, I'm going to make him his favorite dinner. That's about it. Plus we have the "card on the wall" (our reusable Valentine's Day Card that we sign every year) - I'll write something funny in it and put it in the coffee maker so he'll see it when he wakes up.

We don't usually do presents for Valentine's Day. Typically we go out to our favorite restaurant on VD and leave cards scattered around the house for each other, but no real presents. This year, we already went out to dinner because DH has to work all day and night Thursday. (sucks, but we agreed it made sense...)
So I have several cards to leave for him. I also bought him a mini box of chocolates (only a handful inside) that have a Loony Tunes label on them. Yes, DH loves Loony Tunes. So I'll put that in his backpack when he goes to work to find during the day. And I have a nicer box of chocolates to give him when he comes home, just so we have some little celebration aspect.

We don't do gifts for Valentine's Day - since it's a month after our anniversary (for which we don't do gifts either), and less than two months after Christmas, that seems like a lot of gifting.
We always stay in for dinner - too insane with everyone trying to go to restaurants - and I cook something special and we just stay cozy at home.

We never really do big presents for Valentine's Day. We normally just go to dinner and exchange cards (and we often do that on a day other than the 14th to avoid crowds). Nothing. DH is working in PA and I'm in MA. We went out to dinner on friday and called it V-Day.
A homemade valentine, a photo cube with pictures of DH and DS for his desk from DS, and a sweater from me. I also bought some red heart-shaped bagels to bring him for Valentine's breakfast in bed. Nothing too crazy, but enough to know I was thinking about him.
