I think I cross-posted with the threadmistress announcing the new thread in our old thread, so I'm gonna repost my post here:

Pink Amazing u/s pics! Thanks for posting them. I hate when it's muddy outside, cause I have two big dogs. I spend a large amount of my life wiping off dog paws. Luckily, they're used to it and sit patiently while I wipe their paws.

When you ladies are referring to viability, does that mean the baby could survive outside the womb at 24 weeks?

Dumb question: I finally found crib bedding I like (I really wanted something with puppies cause I'm a dog nut) and picked it up since it was on clearance at BRU. I was going to just buy one piece of whatever I picked, just to match paint, but I figured since it was on clearance it wouldn't be around long enough for my baby shower. I had a $100 gift card from Xmas, so I only ended up spending a little over a hundred and got the 4-piece crib set (quilt, bumper, sheet, and dust ruffle), lamp shade, mobile, decorative pillow for my glider, and throw blanket for my glider. Now here's my dumb question....where does the dust ruffle go on the crib since it doesn't have a box spring like a bed does? Is there some sort of platform under the mattress or what? I actually didn't like this bedding when I looked at it online, but it was much nicer and more colorful in person.

Puppy Plane
Imagine a cuddly puppy frolicking in the grass. Now picture a blue propeller plane climbing into the sky. Combine the two, and you have achieved the holy grail of nursery cuteness. Soft, paned blue backgrounds and plaid trims, complimented by vibrant puppies, trees, and aeroplanes, accent this nursery decor exquisitely.

Yep, that's it :D Not sure of the stats but 24 weeks is the *magic* mark.

I wanted to chime in too and say THANKS for the new thread.

I'm sure it's alot of hard work and that we all appreciate the time and effort...so thanks!

It's a boring night on TV, not too interested in the Olympics, can't get comfortable enough in bed to read and DH is watching the hockey game...so I think it's time for bed for me.

Tomorrow, we are going to Ikea to look at closet organizers and any other fun stuff we can find. I'm definitely wearing my comfy shoes tomorrow.

Have a great one everyone...hopefully I can sleep in tomorrow.

Yea for the new thread!

The stats aren't very positive as far as I can remember at this point, but at the same time, it's not unheard of for a baby to survive if born this early (Some even survive, though rare, down to 21 weeks). I always go by 26-27 weeks- that's been my magic number. I think something like 90% of babies survive if born at that point. Luckily that's not far away.

We're due to get anywhere from 1-8 inches of snow in the next 2 days (they're not sure if the storm will make it this far south, but if it does- look out). Because it's so hilly around here, snow makes it horrible to get around. I had plans to get a lot of shopping done, but may just hang out around here and clean the house and play with Mia. I'm thinking the snow might not be such a bad thing. If it stays warm enough (high 20s, low 30s) we may even get to go make a snowman.

jbenny: to answer your ? about where the dust ruffle goes .... It goes between the springs or wood that you put the mattress on. Hummm does that make since ... let me try to find a pic of a bed with that part showing.
bed, wood, mattress
http://i19.ebayimg.com/02/i/06/26/5a/b1_1.JPG
put springs or wood down then crib ruffle

place mattress on top of crib ruffle
http://i8.ebayimg.com/03/i/06/32/6c/49_1.JPG

I hope that is clear .... BTW The bedding is adorable!

Jay&erinn: We were only supposed to get rain/sleet turning into 1-3 inches of snow but instead we got rain/sleet that turned into icy streets & 3-5 inches of snow. Stay Warm!

Thank you, sunshine! That makes sense.

I have another question. I remember that there was a discussion going on not too long ago in the old thread about the FP Baby Papasan. I didn't catch the whole thing, but it seemed like it was maybe being discontinued or something. It isn't available at bru.com, but I saw some in the store yesterday. Should I go snap one up? What was the story with that if anyone remembers?

jbenny ~ The Papasan Bouncer just came out with a new design. I know Target has it right now. It shouldn't be discontinued as it's a huge seller for FP and the new design is only a few weeks old.

Good morning ladies. Thought I'd try to catch this thread at the beginning since it's been a such a long time since I've posted in the last one.

JBenny- That bedding you posted is sooo cute. Sounds like you got a lot of stuff for a pretty good price.

Jay&Erinn- Didn't get a chance to say anything in the last thread, but I'll be praying that everything works out well for you.

I had an appointment on Wednesday morning. Pretty much your typical 2 minute check the heartbeat, measure, everything looks fine, see you next time! My doctor has a very upbeat personality which is nice. If he ends up delivering the baby I can see how that might be a good thing in the delivery room. Or maybe by then I'll just be really annoyed by his cheerfulness, who knows?

I've been having hip pain on my left side that sometimes makes me walk really awkwardly, but that's existed pretty much since the beginning of my pg. I think I might just have a problem with that joint, so if it still hurts once the baby is here I'll get it checked out. My back gets sore if I sit too long, but there's an exercise where you get down on all fours and kind of rock your pelvis, and that takes a lot of the pressure of the lower back and seems to help. I try to go into the lounge at work and hope nobody sees me do it though because I'm sure it looks pretty silly.

I think someone mentioned dizziness a few pages ago. I've had this happen a few times, usually if I've eaten something sugary with not much else in my stomach, but not always. I just go lay down and put my feet up for a few minutes, and that has seemed to help.

Threadmistress: my next appointment is March 8th for my GTT.

Grafy,

have you thought of going to a chiropractor for your hip pain? I had that (mostly in my right side) in my pg with Connor and again with this pg. Going for regular chiropractic treatments has helped immensely in dealing with it. (not to mention, in the months after pg, going to a chiropractor was the best thing ever -- carrying a baby (and all his gear, including the bucket seat) can really do a number on your spine...)

Anyway, maybe something worth checking into for you...

I think Connor has the croup (hacking, barking cough...really congested, hard to breathe... fever).... He started coughing a little Friday night, and late last night it came on full force.

And this morning, I woke up with a cough that is quickly turning into a barking cough. :( So I think it's only a matter of time before I get sick-sick like Connor. I'm a little worried though - I can't take anything while pg, and all that coughing at 22 weeks pg can't be good for someone who COULD be at higher risk for pre-term labour and all. :(

So anyway, cross your fingers, say a prayer or send up good thoughts for us... for Connor to recover quickly and for me to not really get too sick. And for DH to stay healthy.

Mystikal

Connorsmommy I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Mood Swings has anyone else been dealing with them, and how do you handle it? Better yet, how are your DH's handling them? Mine just won't listen to me when I try to explain that it's not him, it's me, and that I really don't like feeling like this. He actually suggested to me that I talk to my doctor because it's not normal. :eek: :mad: He always takes it personally when I get all irrational and upset and I end up even more upset. *sigh* This is the part of pregnancy I really hate. I feel like I'm totally losing my mind!

I ordered my rocker recliner from Lazyboy yesterday.

And we bought something off our registry that matched the bedding we picked out so we could see if it looked good with the yellow walls that the nursery already has (so we don't have to repaint) and it does! (we bought the growth chart that matches the below set)

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00009QMM1.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Despite the fact that it has no yellow in it :) . The walls brighten it up.

We also got the baby some onesies and Daddy picked his boy out two really cute sleepers. It's the first thing he's bought for him. It was so cute seeing him pick out clothes for our son.

And I THINK we have officially decided to name him Hayden Cooper :D .

Hello All :D

Graffy Welcome to the viability stage :D

connorsmommy Hope you and Connor are feeling better soon. I didn't know coughing was related to preterm labor.

jbenny That boy is handsome :)

shaq Cute belly pix :D You look so tiny.

pink Isn't it cool when daddy picks something out. It really 'warms my heart' and I personally find it sexy.

Snow: Up until Brian shoveled the walk we were literally snowed in. I tried to open the screen door and couldn't :eek: We got a foot of snow. After I finally got Niko into his snow suit and then me bundled up, we went outside to play. He loved it and we were out there about an hour. Does anyone remember that movie where the mom bundles up the kid so much in the snow suit when he falls over he can't get up? It's usually at Christmas time with Peter Billingsly and something about a gun? I can't remember the name :/ Anyway, that was Niko. He was so bundled that everytime he fell over, we had to help him up. It didn't help that this snow suit was a hand me down and didn't fit him right, he has huge hips in it. I'll post pix later.

Mood Swings: Mystikal they are perfectly normal in pg. It is all the hormones and their changes. If do an internet search there are tons of sites that say it's perfectly normal. Maybe you can research the best one and either show him or print it off for him.
I get them, but Brian knows it's the pg, so he just ignores me. That sometimes also makes me mad, but he knows that too, so he ignores that :/

Well I'm off to take a nap. I've been up since 7:30 and had a nesting urge around 8:30. Although I haven't vacuumed yet, my house has been straigtened up and laundry is started. Have a great weekend.

shaq: I can't believe that's all the belly you have at 22 weeks. I'm jealous. I keep wondering how I can possibly get any bigger. Unfortunately I know from experience that it can and will happen.

connorsmommy: Croup does not sound like fun. I'm not sure where you live, but I think cool/cold air is supposed to help with the cough (you might want to look it up to be sure). Otherwise, I'd call the doc. They may recommend something for both you and your little one that'll speed the recovery process. Hope you feel better soon.

Mystikal: I'm normally very easy going. However, once pregnancy hormones start, look out. I'm a totally different person. When I told some of my co-workers I was pregnant DH was with me. They claimed they didn't know even though I was 19 weeks along. DH asked how they could not notice the attitude change:rolleyes: . Just an example for you to make you feel better. I had to have blood work that required fasting for 14 hours. The lab is in the same building I work in. I left the house 30 minutes early to have my blood drawn before work and eat some breakfast. I got there, signed in and then realized I didn't have my slip from the doctor (it was sitting on the kitchen counter). I started crying. It was the most rediculous response possible, but I felt like it was the end of the world at the time. Yep, pregnancy does some crazy things to you.

Graffy: I had the dizziness/lightheadedness really bad in my first pregnancy. It's already started this time around. My doc recommended trying to eat some protein at every meal. I'm not a big protein fan normally, let alone pregnant, but I've been trying to follow that, and it seems to be helping so far. I'm hoping, if nothing else, it will lessen the frequency and duration of the lightheadedness.

Well, I'm off to start dinner. We're having my parents and ILs over for dinner. It would have been the first weekend in over a month that I didn't cook for someone other than DH, Mia and me, but having a few extra hands around to help entertain Mia (and watch Nemo for the 1000th time) is worth the little extra work.

ConnorsMommy: Thanks for the advice re: the chiro. I was actually going once a month or so until December, but it really didn't seem to make a difference. He just kept doing the same adjustments he always did, and they really had no effect on my hip. Maybe I just need a different chiro, I don't know.

Mood Swings: Oh boy do I get these. The weird thing is that I'm not moody around dh at all (well, hardly at all), but some days my boss really drives me NUTS! I'll just sit there at my desk fuming to myself and getting irritated at her. I mean, she does have a seriously annoying personality, but I've worked here for 6 years and this is nothing new. It just bugs the heck out of me now that I'm pg. :rolleyes: Let's just say I'm really looking forward to maternity leave. ;)

I love the pictures NikosMommy! Thanks for sharing with us. I still cannot imagine what it will be like to have another person in our lives.

I was totally having a breakdown today over stupid things. Also, we were shopping and I bought clothes for the baby. And it feels so weird; buying stuff for someone that's not even here. I don't know how to explain how I feel. I almost feel like this is all a dream and I'll wake up and there's nothing there. Definitely a weird mood today.

Graffy - I had some sacroilliac pain early in my pregancy, and I ended up going to see an acupuncturist. Went ONCE, and haven't had a problem since. If your chiropractor isn't doing the trick, perhaps you might want to consider acupuncture? Just a thought...

jbenny - nice photo!

Pink - congrats on maybe having a name narrowed down!

Seeing jbenny's u/s pic reminded me I haven't posted a new one...

My next appointment is Feb 24th

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

nikosmommy nikos is SO cute! i just want to squeeze those cheeks of his. he's so adorable. i wish we had snow this week-end. it was more flurries than anything else.

jay&erinn dont be jealous! i'm short (only 5'4) so i look much bigger, i think! i honestly feel like i CANT possibly get any bigger. i barely have room to breathe. i envy taller pg women! and it would be my luck to have at least 5 of them around me pg at the same time :rolleyes:

gina thats a great pic!

mystikal i've been having mood swings and i HATE it! DH is understanding to a point, but i have been mean to him :( oh well...sometimes they're okay. i usually try to go of on my own so i dont bother him!

not much else going on here....except i did notice that my belly has been itching a little today so i kept lotioning it. i'm using an oil and also palmers cocoa butter (the actual butter).

we also started registering yday which was both fun and overwhelming at the same time!

Yup, I'm sick. :(

can't remember who mentioned that they didn't know that coughing causes preterm labour....

I didn't mean to insinuate that there's a definite connection. In fact, I bet there isn't. But for me, it scares me (perhaps unnecessarily).

What I meant was all the extra strain/pulling of muscles in that region can't be good for me & dawson. Reason I say is beause of what happened with Connor. This really is TMI, but when I went into labour with him (and didn't know for several hours as i thougth they were those BH's that everyone talked about), it was because DH & I had just been BDing, and after my O I started cramping and it didn't stop.

Now, it's obvious to me that there were other factors involved with me going into PTL (though, I wish I knew exactly what they were), I don't think the O helped the situation any -- even though I know they say that O won't trigger labour until the baby is ready to come out.

So, I guess what I was saying is that anything that involves involuntary/excessive movement of muscles in that region scares me. kwim?

(ps. Note to all DH's out there. When your DW, who hardly EVER gets sick, gets sick, esp. when she's pg, Don't answer her statement of "Oh, hon, I feel like crap" with an "Oh... Great..." just because it means you won't be getting any tonight and your PG wife isn't exactly up to finishing the laundry she started. That won't sit well with any sick/PG DW, I dare say....

Ok, going back to feeling like crap. :(

nikosHe is so adorable!!

gina Nice u/s! I was hoping for a profile shot like that. A woman at work's daughter actually got a profile shot of the baby appearing to be sucking its thumb. It was amazing. That would've been really cool, BUT I am very happy with my frontal shot.

mood swings Oh yeah. DH has been super super nice to me lately so he hasn't felt my wrath. Mostly it happens to me at work.

good morning everyone! thanks for starting the new thread, it looks great!

connorsmommy- I hope you feel better. I had a friend that had a bad cough while pregnant and strained a muscle in her belly. didn't do anything to the baby but sure made it difficult for her. I hope you can avoid that!

nikosmommy- very cute pics of Niko. I can't wait to meet my little one and have her in a cute snowsuit!

moodswings- umm. . daily?? hourly? yes, I am pretty bad but am trying to reign them in. DH was the target for most of the first trimester but lately it's been my boss. like Graffy said. . I am anxiously awaiting maternity leave. otherwise I might rip my bosses head off.

smiles- welcome! please update us on how you are! you have a ton of QOTD to catch up on!

well, we have purchased our crib and changing table/dresser combo. my mom came in town and bought us our rug for the nursery as it has hardwood floors and we spent all day Saturday looking for gliders. are there any gliders out there that are nice yet cheaper than the $600 Dutalier charges? I am just having a very hard time with that price tag. we are being picky on our fabric but I think I can get non-matching cushions recovered for pretty cheap. I just want a nice chair and ottoman for maybe $300? any ideas???? and for the record, I think the 12 week waiting period for furniture is just mean. that seems like forever!

I have been staring to feel movement more often and am pretty pumped about that. still no hiccups or steady kicks but it's enough for me to know she's in there. nice sigh of relief.

hope everyone has a great Monday!

I have to make this quick because I have to take my dog to the vet but I have exciting news!!!!

My M/S seems to be almost gone and I can see the baby move from the outside now!!!:D

DH and I saw him all balled up to one side and kicking up a storm yesterday and I saw it again this morning. DH finally got to feel him too. I'm finally getting to a fun part of all of this and I'm so happy and thankful for it.

Hello All :D

Had this huge post w/s.o.'s and lost it :mad:

Anyway, thanks for the compliments on my little man :D

smiles Welcome. Give us all the details please :D

connors Sorry you're not feeling well. Brian does the same thing when I'm not feeling well, "oh, I guess getting some quality time is out tonight". I just roll my eyes at him. You know if it was up to men to have babies, well we wouldn't be here.

pink YEAH for no m/s and DH feeling the baby.

Ok, so I nested yesterday and today I'm vegging. I was a total pick up freak yesterday. Today I could care less.

Nikolas' play group has a Valentine's dinner tonight at Pizza Hut but other than that, I'm keeping it low key. Besides our neighborhood only has one plowed route in and out and Brian said that it's a little slick so we're staying put until later hoping the sun will take some of the snow away.

Hope everyone has a good day.

WOW.. seeing this new thread is a reality check of how far we have all come!!

jbenny: Cute bedding! And Great photo

Shaq: Great photo!

Connorsmommy: hoping you feel better!

Moodswings: I can feel them coming on when I start to get tired…. (I am cranky when I am tired normally …so I am worse now).. but I tell DH that I am tired and he knows right away where my mood is going and just tries to make me laugh or stay out of my way.

Graffy: Lightheaded I get this if I have nothing in my belly or if I have been eating sweets…. sounds silly but if I think it is because I am “sugar drop” I immediately eat a piece of candy…. (I had these drops when I was not pregnant and if I eat sugar makes me feel much better)…

Gina: great photo!

Sunshine: It is my maiden name.. but I love it so much that one of our kids will be named it...

DS: So annoyed... remember we were chatting about Mills Store.. well I called about the Chimney Cabinent and they no longer have it in stock... :mad: .. so I might go up to Huck Finn in Albany, NY...

Update:
Snow: about 10 inches or so….but we stayed in all day and painted the babies room. Dh and completed the painting of the babies room... he would not let me paint because he claims I am a terrible painter...:rolleyes: (but that is ok I did not want to paint anyway... ;) ).... We have our crib and dressing table in there but NOTHING is set up. The next step is to clean out the closet that is in there and making it ready for the baby.
We also finishing registering (well I should say we got the majority of the stuff out of the way still need to go back and edit some things)... I know I like things simple but I also like babish too.. BUT Does anyone else notice that some of the baby stuff that is out there is really over the top w/ colors and designs... Dh and I had such a hard time finding plain items.. like beige/ivory/yellow/green... ect.. colors.. instead all these flourscent colors and fishies.. ect..

shouldaeloped About gliders... I've been monitoring my local Craig's list. There are some good finds on there periodically. They seem to sell pretty quickly because I haven't been successful at getting one yet, though I am holding out for one with ottoman.

I hadn't realized that costco.com has some decent baby stuff online (from bedding to Palmer's lotion). It's worth checking out.

Hello Again :D

Gliders & Ottoman's Have you all checked eBay? They have really good deals and we've used them. We're actually going to get our Combi double stroller off of there. From them it's about $350 but I've seen them sell brand new on eBay for about $250 plus approx. $35 shipping.

gliders and ottomans we just got a rocking chair with a stool that moves...it did the trick. but we never really had to use it with my son since he slept so well and didn't really want to be rocked at night. perhaps we'll get more use out of it this time!

Welcome smiles!

Sorry have to get this in before I catch up.

My DH is so sneaky! He pulled a one day While You Were Out on me for Valentine's Day. He told me that he had to work Saturday, woke up at 5 am and took his friend out to breakfast while my parents and best friend got me out of the house all day. Then he completely redid our master bedroom! He painted to of the walls a dark chocolate brown and made a design on one wall with Robin's Egg Blue. Got new intables, rug, bookcase, pillows, vases, candles, and everything. He even stained our closet doors!

I feel so silly because all I got him are underwear and made a custom stuffed animal for him. He is also taking the first step to quit smoking! He started the gum today and hasn't smoked at all today (he's 7 hours into his day already)! I readhis pamphlet and it said to write down the main reasons why you want to quit and keep it in his wallet. I want to print him out a copy of the baby's u/s picture and write a little message under it that he can keep on him for encouragement. I think that will really help the mental urges to quit and keep him on top of it. He's cut way down as it is. A pack lasts him about a week. I am just so proud and excited for him.

Okay now that I have my bragging in, I need to read the new thread and catch up!

Nikosmommy- Great pics of Niko!! Thanks for the tip on buying ottomans on ebay. I went shopping with my parents this weekend and my dad is always insisting on paying for the difference between what I can afford and the upgrade to what he likes. I am trying to work with him and insist that I need a recliner that I can hook my ipod up to that has the massage in it for my back and legs. The one I saw is only an extra $200-300. We'll see if he goes for it.

Shaqangel- You look great! I keep thinking that it would be nice if I could just go well I have gained 11 lbs so far and I'm over 1/2 way through so I should only gain another 11 lbs! Not sure if it will work out that way.

Coughs- I would be more worried about leaking due to a cough. Make sure you're keeping up with your Kegels.

Lil_Mrs ~ What a sweet DH you have! Yay for a new master bedroom. It's always fun to redo the master. Good luck to him on no more smoking. DH and I both quit when I got pg with DS and it was tough but worth it for your baby.

kaedens: I love that stroller thanks for posting that it is on sale - I am not 100% sure if we will get that one or another one but atleast I get to drool when looking at that pic. lol

Nikos: That pic of your ds is sooo cute

Snow: We got about 3-5 inches of snow here (MS) where we hardly ever get snow -maybe once a year if that. It was nice & is all gone now .... whew!

I have been the ebay queen last night & today ... I have bought alot ... if my dh knew he would band me from ebay ... j/k ... I bought 3 pairs of prego jeans, 4 shirts, 1 dress, 2 baby girl outfits with tags. :) not too bad.
I need the clothes BAD!

I asked MIL if we could paint the baby changer & dresser that I bought awhile back from the natural color it is to white and she said "yes, No Problem!" I was happy to hear that - I have wanted white furniture with a girl the whole time but those 2 natural pieces were such a great deal I hated to give up on them. White beds are soooo much easier to find also.

I was sick again this morning :( boooooo that is 3 times in the last 8 days. Hopefully it will stop soon.

I go to the dr & for another u/s tomorrow :) I'll post after my appt.

I can hardly wait.... my "big" u/s is in 2.5 hrs. I am dying here at work... I just want to go!

I have been feeling the baby move a lot more, which is wonderful. It seems that I feel the baby a tiny bit after lunch, then again in the evening around 8pm when I am laying on the couch. DH even felt the baby on Friday night... it was the biggest kick I've felt so far and DH got to feel it too!

I really hope the baby cooperates and that we can find out the sex. My instincts still say boy..... only a few more hours and we should know for sure! Until then.........:)

Nikos: Cute pics! Niko looks like he's having a ball in the snow. The snow suits always remind me of the movie A Christmas Story. Mia's hated the snow suit every year so far because she's so limited in movement.

Connorsmommy: That stinks that you're sick. You think being sick is miserable in the first place- then add a toddler to the equation and pregnancy on top of that, it's just unbearable at times. I hope you feel better soon.

Shoulda: Yea for feeling the baby move. Before you know it we'll be complaining about all the kicks and punches, wishing the baby would settle down.

Pink: I saw that sweater on Gymboree and loved it. I haven't caved and bought it, yet.

Nothing new here. No plans for valentines day. DH and I don't buy much for each other for any occasion anymore- there's enough expenses with the house and Mia, and less money with me working part time.

Question: What does everyone do for a living?
I'll go first. I stay home with Mia part time and work out of the house 3 days a week (about 28 hours) as an audiologist. I work in an Ear, Nose and Throat doc's office doing the hearing testing on all ages from newborn to 90+, balance testing on our patients that are dizzy, and fitting hearing aids. I can't imagine leaving Mia any more than I already do, but we can't live without my income. Sometimes it's the best of both worlds, but often I feel stuck between the SAHMs and WOHMs groups, not quite fitting in either place.

Some of you might know that I sent dh an email last week with some different bedding sets on it ... his comment was that they were "all too girly" it really hurt my feelings ... we had a talk this weekend & he told me to pick out whichever one makes me happy .... so I did. I still think he is taking it hard that we are having a girl instead of a boy - he WILL get over it!

Question: What do you do for a living? ~ I'm in Workforce Management for a large company. I work FT currently but am hoping DH starts making more $$ at his new job so I can cut back after maternity leave. I do love my job though, and make good money and only work weekends by choice and don't have to work holidays. Plus, I have a flexible schedule and can choose my hours.

sunshine: DH always said that he never wanted girls. When I was pregnant with Mia I told him that we would find out the sex if he was going to be disappointed. Then he would have time to get over it. The last thing I wanted was to look over after hours and hours of labor and see a disappointed look on his face. He claimed he would be fine with either. The night I had her I new she already had him wrapped when she was sleeping on his chest in the hospital room and he didn't want to let anyone else hold her. Well, now with this pregnancy he says he could care less what we have. If he ends up with all girls, so be it. Your DH won't be able to resist daddy's little girl- trust me.;)

QOTD- I am a corporate recruiter for a fortune 15 company. DH is graduating from law school this May and while I could stay home based on his soon to be income, I really want to work. I like to have too many things. that certainly might change but I am in the office 8 -5 and although I do bring work home with me quite a bit, I can do it later in the evening and can opt to not bring it home at all. so while the schedule is like this, I think I can handle it for a while.

sunshine- I like your bedding and I LOVE the curtains! we had a very hard time picking out something that DH liked too. our walls are lavendar and I really didn't want to repaint so it had to be girly but not over the top and with lavendar in it. took forever but we bought the lavendar daisy bedding from PBK. I'll post a picture later.

DH is in management but we still like to spend more $ than he makes alone so being a SAHM is not in the plans at this point. Darn it.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

QOTD:

I work in communications/PR for one of North America's Class 1 railways. :)

I've been at my current job 1 year tomorrow...but it is a contract job and there have been some major cutbacks in "support" roles (ie. anyone who doesn't actually have a hand in moving the trains), so my contract will end March 31. :( (actually I'm not totally sad - I'm excited to stay home, but I'll miss the paycheques)

I'll take the remainder of my PG off as a SAHM...and then continue to be a SAHM for 1 year after Dawson is born (as per Canada's employment insurance maternity benefits), and after that we shall see... I may stay a SAHM for another year or two...or find part time PR work or freelance writing or something. It's up in the air as to what I'll be doing after mid-2007.

QOTD: My field is psychology. I teach college courses part-time and work full-time at a research hospital. I will be taking at least 8 weeks off for maternity leave at my full-time job(but probably more) but resume my teaching after a short hiatus. I did this with my first pregnancy and it worked out pretty well. I do well financially and with our newly built home...staying home is probably not an option. I'm crazy though because I actually like working! I can't believe I just typed that! ;)

Hi everyone.

It has been a long morning. Brian comes into the bedroom to tell me that someone tried to steal one of our cars from our driveway last night :eek: Our neighbor knocked on our door at 6 a.m. to tell us that we left the lights on in the car. Brian goes out to try to start it and finds that the emergency key is in the ignition :eek: He believes that they didn't take it cause they can't drive a 5-speed.
They did take his radar detector and his cell phone. And get this, we called T-Mobile to tell them the phone was stolen and they said that we are responsible for any calls made on it until we reported it stolen. Um Hello, NO :mad: How in the f*** are we supposed to report it stolen if we were asleep :mad: I feel we're going to have to fight that one cause we were already over our minutes. We shall see later today.
So that has been our morning :( I'm just glad Brian didn't leave his wallet in the car like he usually does. That would have sucked the big one.

QOTD: I've been a SAHM since I was 6 months pg with Niko. I was going to go back to work when he went to school but with the new one coming that's being pushed back again a few years. I don't mind either, I LOVE MY JOB :D

I have an u/s today at 2:45, hopefully that will make my day better.

kaedensmommy I love that pink and gray travel system. It's called Lyndsey, right? If we were having a girl, I'd definitely be getting it.

sunshine cute bedding and curtains!

nikosmommy OMG!! I'm so glad your DH didn't have his wallet out there. Mine does that, too, and I always yell at him for it.

QOTD I am a dental assistant. I like what I do, the hours are good since many dentists don't work a 40 hour week (for instance, my last two jobs were only Mon-Thurs), and there are many part-time opportunities. However, I don't think I'll be going back to dentistry when I go back to work after the baby because after 10 years, I'm learning that the majority of dentists are nuts and a nightmare to work for. I was lucky to be in a wonderful office for about five years, but since leaving that office, I've had no luck. It's like they think they run their own little kingdom and regular workplace rules don't apply to them. I'm not sure how long I'll be home. We're just planning on seeing how it goes and if I like it. It will be at least a year, but maybe until the baby goes to school or more if there is a second child. We'll see. I ready to start being a SAHM right now!

Question: What does everyone do for a living?

I am a SAHW right now for the first time, I quit my job last June. I was a Secretary for an Industrial Construction Co. for 5 years. Loved most of the people, but just got sick of having such a boring job where I didn't even do anything the majority of the time. I was in Estimating so it was really feast of famine most of the time. I've been working since I was 16 and I decided this past year that I needed a break. After 3 mo.'s of being off, I was ready to go back! I tried but there were no postions available and they were working on trying to get me back in but then I got pregnant and really sick so I really couldn't have worked if I wanted to.

DH makes a good living and gets quarterly bonuses, but things could always be better financially. I got used to having all of my money to blow or to pay a big bill when he was running low on money, etc. Now we have to actually be careful with money for the first time ever.

I REALLY need to go to school so I think I will focus on that and raising this baby the next few years. Hopefully by the time he's nearly school aged I will be done and ready to go back to work. I find staying home pretty boring these days. I'm sure it won't be that way once Hayden gets here!:)

I had to break down and take a 4 mg Zofran around 2 yesterday. I didn't feel so hot.

Can anyone else not stop eating? I feel like I'm a little kid having some kind of growth spurt or something.

Happy VALENTINES DAY!

QOTD: I am a paralegal at a law firm in NYC... I aboslutely LOVE what I do... and love where I work... I have my weeks where I have to work alot of overtime and then I have my good weeks where I can leave at 5:00/5:30. My commute right now is 1.5 hours into work on metro north one way.... now not having the baby right now.. this schedule is not a problem.. BUT mix in a baby, full time + overtime and a 3hour commute.. it will be exhausting.... I am hoping to go partime.. around 21 to 28 hours a week.. plus we are building a new home so we need my income. So I will be home for 6 months and then returning to work...

So mad at myself.. just ate a bunch of swedish fish... I love them...:D

Nikosmom: How awful! I'm glad they didn't take the car though.
connorsmommy: Hope you feel better soon!
Baby Lust:Buying the nursery furniture seems like such a huge step. It must make this whole pregnancy thing even more real!
sunshine: Cute bedding!
steviem: Hope everything went well yesterday. I'm looking forward to your update.

Overdoing it: While DH battled the snow on Sunday, I battled the dust bunnies and clutter in the house. Actually, I spent a few hours on Saturday cleaning the downstairs--like scrubbing every nooks-and-cranny cleaning. I took everything out of the china cabinet and dusted etc. I then spent 4 hours cleaning the upstairs on Sunday. I was under the bed conquering dust, organizing closets, scrubbing the tub, etc. I ran up and down the stairs a million times. The house is spotless, which makes me ridiculously happy, but I paid the price yesterday. I was exhausted and felt like crap. My boss even told me to go home. So, I left the office at 2, stopped at the drug store to buy DH a Valentine's card, and made it to my driveway before throwing up. Then I crawled into bed and slept for three hours. The good news is that sleep was all I needed and I'm feeling much better today.

QOTD: I'm an executive editor for a publishing company. I've been with the same company for 6 years. The company has been good to me, they allow me flexibility that I wouldn't have elsewhere, and my seniority gives me some leverage in terms of working hours post-pregnancy. I'm hoping to work one day a week from home and every other Friday at home. I'm positive they'll allow me at least the one day. Fingers crossed!

Hi everyone!

thanks for all the good wishes for Connor and I to get better... we're definitely on the upswing and so glad the worst is behind us! :)

PINK -- usually I can't stop eating during this PG, but my appetite really took a nosedive this week -- yesterday, I had a bowl of mini-wheats, a few bites of Kraft Dinner and two Del Monte Real Fruit & Yogurt frozen bars. I think my appetite and food consumption will go way up today, though.

Happy Valentines Day!

Well, DH and I went to our big u/s yesterday evening. For some reason, my doc only does u/s from 5-7pm. They have a u/s tech come in to do them.

Anyway, the baby looks healthy, thank goodness! Everything is measuring as it should be.

My "gut" feeling was right: We are having a baby boy! Add another to the blue team!!!

DH and I are very happy. For a split second, I got sad realizing I won't be able to buy cute pink dresses, but that only lasted for a moment. We are just so happy our little one is healthy!

QOTD: I am the Manager of International Sales for a major Theme Park in Southern California. I work full time right now, but I will take 6 months maternity leave. I am still deciding on whether or not I will return to work after my leave. My job requires that I travel overseas and I can't imagine doing that with a baby. So, at this point, I am thinking I will need to look for a new job (part time), while I am on leave.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

I went to Motherhood and got something sooo not cute, but it was only $30 for the whole outfit, and I got some of those extender thingees to extend your bra and so far so good. QOTD: I have been a horse trainer for the past 15 years, and had actually just moved to a new location as my own business when I found out I was pregnant. So, I had to have most of my clients with young horses go elsewhere. I've been riding a couple quiet western horses, but I am done as of the end of this month. I'm not sure what I am going to do after the baby comes. I need to do something, as we really need some income, but my mom has offered to pay me to do some work for her as well. If DH's business grows enough, I won't need to work at all- so I need to wait and see!

I work as an admissions representative at a small private college. The majority of our students are non-traditional (i.e. not right out of high school, single parents, low income families), and it's wonderful to help them change their lives and get a better situation for themselves and their children. I love what I do, but the hours suck, and five months out of the year we have what is called "blackout" where you cannot take vacation or take a day off unless you have documentation as to why you were out due to the high enrollment period. I am hoping to be able to SAH by next tax season.

Hello again :)

Ok, so we thought that someone trying to steal the car this morning was it. Well Brian goes to the bank at lunch and gets rear ended on the way back to work :eek: He is ok and the car has no visible damage but the trunk is now hard to open and close.
I told him he needs to go to the dr anyway just for insurance purposes. He hates doctors so we'll see what he does.

I went for another u/s today and we DEFINATELY have a boy :D He was showing his stuff all over the place and now it looks like a pee pee :p Dr said he's doing good, weighs 1 lb 11 oz and everything is on schedule. He did say I should check with my OB in regards to the frequent BH. He thinks they may be more than that :eek:

Other than that, nothing else. My sis is coming to DE for business tomorrow so she'll be over to see us. Brian vacuumed the house for me and is going to mop in the morning.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

U/S - appt. update:
Our baby girl had a good report at the doctor today. She measured the right size & my due date is still the same - She was very active on the ultrasound for awhile then she put her hands up by her face & made a frown face (like she was pouting) dh said she looked just like me when she did that. Her heart looked great and was beating good. Her bowels still have a "marker" as they call it "still dense" the ultrasound tech said it could be something or else it could be nothing - we will have to see when she is born but her & the doctor both told us not to worry. My blood pressure was high but that was probably because dh was majorly on my nerves this morning. ha ha the 2nd time they took it after making me lay down & relax it was good. I go back in 4 wks for an appt (March 14th) & then in 6 wks for my glucose test ewwwwww (March 28)

I just now got around to scanning these from my u/s @ 20weeks Feb 2nd Skelator baby

Good morning everyone!

Stevie ~ Congrats on your little BOY! Welcome to Team Blue.

Nikos ~ I'm sorry you are having such rotten luck lately and as Pink said, when it rains it pours. I've been having the same kind of luck the last few weeks (mixed in with lot's of good though, so it's not that tragic.)

Pink ~ Sorry you are still feeling sick...try not to talk about feeling good anymore, seems like when you do, you only end getting sick. I'm still taking my 'Magic Pills' every night, not willing to risk another awful day.

Sunshine ~ Glad everything went well yesterday and so funny that you were able to see facial features and all. Isn't that a typical DH comment though, I can see getting tons of those once our baby is born.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
I had another Midwife appointment yesterday and DH decided to come with me. It was nice having him there actually. The M/W went into their birth procedures, in terms of when the baby is delivered they will put him directly on my chest (even before suctioning or cutting the cord) and then wipe him off from there. They asked about cutting the cord, and I told DH that it was important for me that he be the one to cut it (I'm actually tearing up just typing that out and thinking about it.)
She also went over the last U/S results and everything is PERFECT with our baby, no problems, which is a relief. The due date generated by the U/S was May 28th, which is closer to my LMP date of May 30th. When she measured my fundal height, I was measuring at 26 1/2 weeks, when in reality I was exactly 25 weeks (based on a May 30th due date.) So he is definitely growing okay in there.
New QOTD ~ With all the boys we are having has anyone made any decisions or thought about Circumcision yet? We learned yesterday that should baby be over 10lbs. there is no way that circumcision will be done...interseting eh?
QOTD ~ I am actually an Acquisition Coordinator for a Major television station in Canada. I assist the VP in acquiring new programming, completing the deal, sub-licensing them to third parties, etc. Overall a great job with good pay and benefits. I will be taking a year off (as is the mat-leave policy in Canada) and will be returning to work after my year is up. Hopefully I will only be here another year before we have another child (yup, planning for number 2 already) which we are hoping to have about 2 years after the first.
Have a great day everyone...I'm off to do some work (or check Ebay) and then dinner tonight with my In-laws.
Circumcision -- We will do a circ. even though I'm not crazy about the procedure. When I was pg with Connor, Wade figured there should be no discussion - he's circ'd therefore his sons will be circ'd. (that, and his mother is very pro-circ, so I'm sure she was a big influence). I wasn't crazy about how he came to the decision, but he wasn't going to budge on it. So instead we came to a compromise. Wade is the decision maker where it comes to the boy type stuff and I'm the decision maker where it comes to the girl type stuff (which won't be an issue now).
Anyway, all that to say we will have Dawson circ'd but I've told Wade that I WILL Vee-to it if Dawson has to have the same procedure that Connor had (the razor blade method). I said I could only allow it if we find a Dr. who does the newer "bell" method -- where they clamp a plastic "bell" around the excess skin and leave it there until it falls off. Sounds just as horrible but I think is a lot better - there aren't open wounds to keep clean/disinfected after the fact and you don't have to see a razor blade actually cutting the skin off.
Mrs. Brownie -- I've never heard that before about boys over 10 lbs not allowed to be circ'd. Is that an Ontario regulation? My brother's boy was circ'd (the bell method we'd wished we'd known about) in 2003, and he was born at over 10 lbs. That was in Manitoba. And I haven't heard of any 10 lb boys here in my circle of friends in Alberta who couldn't get circ'd b/c of their weight.
Could it have more to do with gestational age and the age they are when they are circ'd? Connor was 15 days when he got out of hospital, and I didn't call around to find a circ. Dr. until he was 17 or 18 days. ALL places but one turned us down b/c they were booked up for the next 7 days and had a policy of not doing circ's after 21 days old. A weight limit was never mentioned to us, not that it mattered in our case. All the offices wouldn't go against the 21 day rule despite our situation of having a 35 weeker who was yet to reach his due date...and the fact that he had been in the NICU for 15 of the first 21 days of his life. I finally found ONE Dr. whose office agreed to do it (on Day 23), yet when we showed up, he almost didn't perform it after noting Connor's age was two days over the 21-day limit.... until we explained to him that he was a preemie and that his office had confirmed it would be ok in our case.
So this time around, I have a list from the Calgary Health Region of Dr's who do circ's in our city. I'll be calling them all soon to find out who does the 'bell', and finding out what their policies are regarding weight/age of baby. Obviously can't book the appt. before Dawson is born, but will be glad to know that we won't have to run around like last time and get a less-than-satisfactory experience.
Anyway...sorry, I'm rambling here...
Wow, things move so fast here! I hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day! Ours was pretty quiet - an exchange of candy (!!) and a good meal at a local Chinese place.
steviem - CONGRATS on your BOY!!! Y'know, boys get some pretty fun clothes too...Not as frilly, but I think they get more fun colors and stripey patterns.
sunshine - great u/s photos!
Niko's Mommy - How awful to hear of your DH's accident. But I'm relieved to hear that he's fine. Did he make an appt with a doc yet? How's he feeling today?
What we do for a living... - I'm currently a SAHW because we just moved to Denver from NYC. While in NYC I worked as a Film and Video specialist at a performing arts library, and was also a modern dancer.
Right now I'm trying to find a part-time job here, but not having much luck. If I do find something, great. If not, I'll probably volunteer until the baby comes, and then focus on getting my career back up and running again in the fall.
Circumcision - I'm leaving this one up to DH, since I'm a bit clueless on it. DH is, so I imagine he'd want our son to be also.
Circumcision- If we have a boy he will be circumcised. I figured it was DH's decision and he had a lot of good points about why he thinks OUR son should be circumcised. I didn't know about the 7 day wait and need to get it in before day 21. I will have to add that to my list of questions for my next appointment. I also need to start getting recommendations for local pediatricians.
Lil Mrs -- I don't know how it is at other places. I've heard of other women having their OB practice having someone there that does them, so you don't have to run around on your own. Some people have it done in hospital (I don't know that this is an option here -- I'd never heard of it). The 7 day wait was more of a "we're booked up for for the next week or so," so the earliest appt. I could get was 8 or more days later. It wasn't like a manditory waiting period.
Anyway, I'm glad this topic did come up. It can be such a hot-button topic, and while there are strong emotions involved and strong pros/cons for having it done, I think it's a good thing that the mothers-to-be of boys have time and resources on their hands to make the right decision. For me, I'd kind of stuck my head in the sand over this issue last time, not doing my research not knowing there were different methods to do the circ. All I knew is that we were going to do it. I just didn't know there were choices on how to have it done. Had I known then what I know now, there's no way we would have gone with the 'traditional' razor blade method.
I know, I need to stop jinxing myself by saying I feel better!
Circumcision-Yes, we will have it done. I always assumed it was done in the hospital before they come home. Is that not the case?
i just got back from my doc appt. everything is looking good. baby's heart rate was 145bpm. he measured my belly and we chatted about my headaches (need to increase protein - the carbs are just quick energy stuff and baby is grabbing the firsts and i'm getting the leftovers so i'm not getting enough to sustain me). i told him how big i feel and it doesnt help that i've had people tell me that i'm pretty big. he said i'm still small and that since baby doesnt have much room to spread around, i'm basically gonna grow outwards so dont listen to anyone! also when i do start to really pop out he wants me to wear a brace regularly cos it will help my back a whole lot.
next appt. 15 march
i will be doing the glucose test then and he's testing my iron levels and doing an ultrasound.
QOTD we will circumcise if its a boy.
Congrats on the BOY Stevie!
Sorry to hear about all of the car craziness nikosmom. (My hubby also has a wallet in the car habit- thought it was just him!)
makin' a livin' It's so fascinating hearing about what everyone does for a living. I'm a publicist and have been for the past 7+ years. I like my job as much as one can, but am just not sure I'll be able to hack it the way things are now post-baby. Like ryan, I have a super commute (also 1.5 hours on a train, plus a drive and a walk = 2 hours one way). So, commute, demanding job, baby, and both of us in the city with no fabulous care in place could spell disaster. I've thought abotu P/T but don't know if they'll allow for it here. Most likely not. So, I will probably be a SAHM, but not sure for how long.
eating habits Add me to the list fo the mighty hungry! I feel like a teenager again.
So, I had the "big U/S" yesterday. Gosh, it was just amazing. Baby Ffanel is still a surprise! Everything looks great, baby is measuring on target, etc., so a huge relief. Speaking of huge (ha, ha), I gained nine lbs. in five weeks! excited - I was so happy to see your post so I know I'm not alone. I'm up a total of 15 lbs. to date. I think I'm just one of those people that will gain in the upper limits of acceptable. The Dr. did not seem concerned, so I won't sweat it too much, but will try to be more concious of my sweet tooth.
QOTD ~ I left the decision up to DH on this (though I was secretly for it for no other reason than it's what I consider normal...sorry, hope I don't get anyone upset on that one.) But DH is adamant that our son be circ'd and I would have supported him either way, as he's the one who is speaking frome experience.
I know that this is a more personal decision and only about 50% of people are having it done, but it's something that he (and I) feel strongly about.
Up here, it's no longer a procedure that is done at the hospital and we have to pay for it out of pocket (not covered by insurance.) We've been recommended to a doctor who does the procedure fairly soon after baby is born who we will go to. He did a friend's son and luckily she had no complications.
I don't know which procedure he does and I guess it's something I should have looked into. But with the Bell method Connorsmommy how long does it take? How long does the clamp stay in place and does it affect diaper changes?
My mom said when my brother was born (24 years ago) they used to just bring the baby to you, a couple hours after birth, saying that he was circumcized. She told me that back then, you never even got a choice (although I'm sure you could have said no to the procedure) but it was the norm to get done. At least now they use anaesthetic...back then it was never used from what I understand.
Hopefully it won't scar my child for life and he won't remember a thing about it. And DH will be the one going into the room with the baby and doctor, as I don't think I could stand it.
Connorsmommy ~ I am still a little confused on the whole 10lb baby thing, but from what the M/W indicated, it was due to anaesthetic and the size of the baby. She said they had a woman deliver a 10.5 pound baby last week and the doctor refused to do the cirsumcision. DH told me that we better pray that this baby is under 10lbs so he can be circ'd...I told him he better be under 10 lbs. if I'm having to push him out that little opening.
I must say that I'm actually surprised at how many of us are planning to circ and that it hasn't raised any tempers yet...interesting.
Is there anyone REALLY against it? If so, what is your reasoning? I'm always intersted to hear different points of view, especially when it relates to the well-being of my child.
I’ve been away for a while, but have returned. I have a lot to catch up on and still have some info to post.
Most resent QOTDs
My job – I am a mechanical engineer by degree and do thermodynamic analysis and system modeling for an aerospace company. I would love to be a SAHM, but I’m the primary bread winner so that won’t be an option for a while. Even if I was a SAHM, I would have to do something part time whether paid or volunteer.
Circumcision – I’m against it. If my son needs it for medical reasons then I will have it done. Dh is not circumcised, but he is on the fence about it. I initially thought that it would be his sole decision and I also thought of course he would be circumcised...doesn’t everyone do that. After some research I changed my position and decided that it should be both of our decision. I’ve read that these days it is pretty much 50/50. The ones that do it…do it for religious reasons or because the father is circumcised.
QOTD - circumcision ~ Of course we don't have to worry about it this time, but we did circumcize DS when he was born and would have done the same if this DC were a boy. I also left it up to DH.
Pink ~ Our hospital does do the circumcision on the day you'll be discharged. They monitored DS for 3 hours following - they checked him every 15 minutes the first hour, every 1/2 hour the 2nd and then waited the full hour to make sure he wasn't bleeding. It was fine and he never had any issues with it.
I must say that I'm actually surprised at how many of us are planning to circ and that it hasn't raised any tempers yet...interesting.
I would hope that it wouldn’t raise any tempers or debates since we are each entitled to our own opinion and decision. I do sometimes wish that more people would research certain topics before deciding to follow the “norm”. After researching, they still may decide to follow the norm, but at least it will be an informed decision.
DS ~ Toucher...I just made the comment based on visiting numerous threads here and elsewhere about Circumcision. You are right, we are all entitled to our opinions and decisions, but some people feel VERY STRONGLY about their opionion being the right one. I shouldn't have said it, as we are a pretty friendly and close group, I just found it interesting.
I must admit that I haven't done alot of my own research, other than a few articles I've read, but I have listened to alot of opinions (like I said above, I've frequented a ton of message boards over the months) both for and against. And I would say that now our decision is based more on looks and being similar to DH than any other reason.
Okay...enough out of me for now.
QOTD catch up...
Circumcision I am so glad we don't have to decide on this. DH and I had started talking about it before we found out we were having a girl. This was quickly becoming a topic of conflict. I am very much against it and DH is very much for it (his main reason being that the majority is circumcised). I had done a fair amount of research on it online... that brings me to
What I do I am a senior scientist for a leading medical equipment company. The main part of my job is to read scientific literature to understand the medical evidence relating to our field (cardiac arrest). I also work on developing experimental studies with leading researchers and advise on major clinical studies. It's a full time job. My boss is extremely understanding and flexible. He supports working from home whenever possible (it's a much more productive and quiet environment). I travel from time to time. I plan to take ~8 weeks off (only 6 are covered, but can take up to 12). DH works mostly from home. DD will go to daycare most of the time. I already have my Medela pump for BF.
Gotta run...
I don't know which procedure he does and I guess it's something I should have looked into. But with the Bell method Connorsmommy how long does it take? How long does the clamp stay in place and does it affect diaper changes?
I'm not sure of how long the "bell" procedure takes. Though if you google it... you can find more info using the key words bell and circumcision. I THINK it's called a "plastibell", but I don't want to be googling such a topic on my work computer right now to check it out. LOL! The bell stays in place until the skin it has been clamping off has died and shriveled up. When that skin falls off, so does the bell. (similar idea to having the belly button stump dry up and fall off). I can't say for sure how long it takes, but I think it's similar to waiting for a belly button to dry up and fall off (average 10-12 days?). My brother's baby had it done in hospital before they left (3 days or younger), and it was still on when we went out there to for our summer trip...I think he was 12 days old the day we got there, and the bell fell off a couple days after that.
My SIL said taking care of the "bell" circ. was no big deal at all. It was clean and easy to take care of. And there was very little 'special' care to do.
WARNING: DON'T read the following if you are squeamish about medical procedures:
OUR experience 3 months earlier was anything BUT that. For the first 48 hours (the worst of it - bloody, freshly cut skin), we needed two sets of hands for every diaper change because of all the care instructions we had to follow and having a very unhappy newborn to hold down. We'd have to clean it carefully at every diaper change, careful not to disturb the skin, yet at the same time making sure the cut skin wasn't healing improperly -- ie. it has to form a 'ridge' -- and when it DID start healing over the wrong way, we had to use q-tips to PRY his skin loose (while he screamed at us of course). Then, there was the bleeding... and putting vaseline and gauze on it at every change to make sure his skin didn't stick to his diaper and then tear apart at diaper change... Don't even get me started about poopy diapers, as those posed a risk of infection and so you had to be very careful to clean around the open wounds but not get any feces in them.
And then, to top it all off, since the one side of the skin kept wanting to heal over top the ridge and we kept having to pry it off, his p**** (sorry, I'm at work) was actually kind of healing crooked. Of course, that's just a cosmetic thing...but I didn't want my son having manhood issues as an adult b/c his parents let his p**** go crooked after his circ. Went to the Dr. and was told to come back in a few weeks... and then we finally got a referral to a Pediatric Urologist to look at it (couldn't get in until he was 8 months old) .... when we were finally given a steroid cream to thin the skin on the 'bad' side so that the ridge would be proper. Finally after all that, it worked out and he had a straight P****
Hopefully it won't scar my child for life and he won't remember a thing about it. And DH will be the one going into the room with the baby and doctor, as I don't think I could stand it.
thankfully, at that age it won't scar them for life, IMHO (though, I know there are anti-circ people out there who will beg to differ). At just under 3 years old, Connor likes and is actually quite proud of his p****. :) We both went into the room with Connor. I didn't want to be in the room, yet I didn't NOT want to be there for him. I tried not to look, but it was so hard given how close to the procedure I was while I was holding Connors little hands and kissing his head.
Connorsmommy ~ I am still a little confused on the whole 10lb baby thing, but from what the M/W indicated, it was due to anaesthetic and the size of the baby.
I'm a little fuzzy from 3 years ago...but come to think of it, one of the reasons the Dr. allowed the circ at over 3 weeks was because of Connor's still-newborn size (I can't remember if he'd even hit the 6 lb mark yet). The more I think about it, the more I seem to think it maybe had been an anesthetic issue....
Let me know what you find out. Interesting question, as I know that Connor would have likely been 10 lbs or more had he gone to term... and so it's a possibility for Dawson, too, I guess.
MrsBrownie - My comment was not against what you said and it wasn't geared toward circumsion only. My comment was general about all things. I was not offended at all about what you wrote. I see that on many boards touchy topics turn into worthless debates and I am just hoping that we are adult enough on this board not to be offended by someone else opinions and start a huge debate.
Just to throw in my $.02 about debate. I think in this thread we all have a great deal of respect for each other and other's opinions. I feel comfortable posting my feelings/opinions here and knowing that I won't get flamed by anyone, even if they disagree.
The other great thing about that is we are able to offer ideas that may be helpful to others in the thread that we hadn't though of ourselves.
I think I'm going to have DH look into this one a little more.
DS and Kaeden's Mommy ~ I totally agree with both of you. I enjoy reading and hearing others opinions and decisions. I don't always agree and they don't always change my mind, but at least I feel like I'm making an informed decision for myself. Also, because I'm a first time mom, I'm finding out about alot of things I didn't know or wouldn't have prepared for.
The M/W and my HR Rep were both pretty impressed with how organized and informed I am...which is mostly attributable to what I have learned on the boards and by talking with other people. Invaluable information if you ask me.
It's been an all-round bad day for me today and I'm feeling a little scattered an overwhelmed. Not making any excuses, but I do want to apologize. My comment about "being surprised that it hadn't raised any tempers" was uncalled for as we are all adults...sorry about that, it wasn't meant as an insult or slight to anyone. I do have alot of respect for all of us in this thread and I shouldn't have said anything. I would go and edit it out, but I think it's too late for that!
Hi all. Sorry I have been out of the loop. Work has been busy!
Congratulations to everyone who has had encouraging followups and healthy baby ultrasounds!
QOTD:
Circumcision We did not circ Wyatt. We did a significant amount of research andt there was no compelling reason to do so in our minds. DH is circ'd but he actually felt more strongly than I that he did not want to do it. I felt we were almost equal decision makers with DH getting 51% of any vote since he has a penis. But since we were on the same page, there was no question but that we would not circ.
work I am a lawyer:D . I do intellectual property litigation (patent, copyright) and general commercial litigation. My undergrad was in biochemistry so I tend to like the science related disputes. I work out of my home 90% of the time although I travel for depositions and hearings. I have a nanny who is here in the house with me and watches the kids while I am working. I plan to continue this arrangement for the foreseeable future.
All is well with us. I am in 80% maternity now. I switch a couple days ago when I couldn't button my pants!
I started a pregnancy yoga class at the gym today and I think I am going to enjoy it. It felt good to stretch.
I don't think I mentioned this about my appointment last week but I'm up 20 pounds!!! :eek: I think that probably makes me the mommy with the most weight gain so far.:o I'm really not that concerned about it because I'm just sticking straight out in front, and I've kind of stabilized in the last few weeks. As far as eating I just try to eat a good protein snack about 10 a.m. and also around 3 in addition to my normal 3 meals. Lately it's been cottage cheese in the morning and some kind of fruit or some pistachios in the afternoon.
QOTDS:
I'm the business manager of a public library. I have one of those jobs where I'm the only person who really knows what I do and how it's done. I was really planning on SAH full-time once the baby came, but I knew how much my boss would freak, and I also knew what a pain it would be to try to train someone else for my job, so I thought I'd compromise. I asked my boss if it'd be possible to just come back pt to do the main parts of my job that she's clueless about. She was happy to agree, so I'm hoping to work about 12 or 15 hours a week after I come back from leave. And my 12 weeks of FMLA should be fully paid if I don't end up using more than 30 hour of sick or vacation time before the baby comes.:)
Circumcision: We are planning to circ if we have a boy. I've read quite a bit about it, but we both decided that would be the best decision for us. I hadn't heard about the bell thing that Connor'sMommy mentioned. I'll have to look into that.
I hope everyone is having a good week (and Niko'sMommy- I hope yours gets much better). This Sunday is our first anniversary, so I'm looking forward to that. :)
Hi Fellow Mommies and Mommies-To-Be!
Gosh, I feel so behind. Sorry I haven't been around much. Work has been crazy busy lately, leaving not much time to post or catch up. On top of that, DS was sick all last week. He had croup, a cold AND a fever. Not a good combo -- poor kid could barely eat and all he wanted to do was sleep. He's doing much better now. I seem to have caught his cold. But isn't that how it always is when you're kids get sick? When they get sick, you get sick..heh.
Other than my cold, I've been feeling pretty good. I've managed to gain about 12lbs so far. :o
A Nice Surprise
Last week I received an unexpected delivery from some of my LJ pals. (Most of them I've know for years from the relationships we developed back on WC) Anyways, they all pitched in a bought us:
Nature's Touch Baby Papasan Cradle Swing
AND
Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007WWZKY.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It was sooo unbelievably sweet and such a nice SURPRISE! I was totally shocked when we got the delivery on Friday. :eek: Gosh, my baby shower isn't even until the end of April, and the baby is already spoiled. It's AWESOME to have such wonderful friends. :)
QOTDs:
What I do for a living:
*My 9 to 5 job: I work for a bank as a Project Analyst. Most of the time I work on researching information for procedures that need to be developed for our associates. Originally, I was planning to be a SAHM after #2 is born, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like it might not be realistic for us financially. I have a really good job right now and I can't imagine us living on only my DH's income. Not sure what we're going to do yet, but hopefully we will make a decision, too.
*My 5 to 9 job: I also have my own business on the side designing wedding invitations, cards, annoucements and other stationary-related items. I have been designing invitations/cards for years, but just started my own business about a year ago and I am loving it so far.
Circumcision - yes, we do plan on circumcising #2, just as we did for DS.
Hope everyone is doing well and congrats to everyone again on their little boys, girls and surprises. :D
Mrs Brownie: I agree w/ Kaeden.. no need to apologize I did not take offense to it at all... :)
QOTD: Yes we will have it done and I believe they do it at the hospital right then and there...
Shamo: great gifts...
Weight gain: gosh I have my 6th month appt on Tuesday and I think I have put on at least 15 lbs until now... I hope I am in the norm... some of you girls are still so small... :cool:
I have another question and I know it is not accurate..but for all you ladies who know what you are having did your heart rate match the sex of your child. Meaning... I know they say "120-140 is boy and above 140 is a girl..."...
jesvet
MrsBrownie- I wasn't offended either.
Circumcision- I am so torn! I don't know what to do! DH thinks we should because he was, but I don't think he is adamant about it. My mother and sister are very pro-circ for outdated reasons- my mom was a pediatric nurse for a long time and keeps talking about infections; my sister keeps saying how an uncirc'd penis is weird looking and he'll feel weird since no one else around him is circumcised. I just have a hard time justifying an unnecessary medical procedure without input from the child himself. (This is also why DD's ears are unpierced, lol.) sigh.
What I do- I'm a veterinarian. I quit a couple weeks ago because I didn't feel up to the physical demands of the job- I worked in a high paced emergency clinic where you were on your feet about 11 hours straight and there was a lot of pet wrangling involved. I would like to go back, I don't know if to that clinic or not, but only part time. 2 days a week sounds good to me.
This is what I've always heard as well, but it is the opposite for us. DS's h/b was in the 150s almost always - I think it hit 130s once. This time around, her h/b has been lower 140ish all but at 12 weeks when it was 160s. I've heard this is a reliable way to tell, but not until later into the pregnancy.
did your heart rate match the sex of your child? - For me, no. We're having a boy, and the heart rate has been consistently around 150-160. But the strange thing is, my heart rate has been freakishly low. I'm not sure if I'm mellowing with this pregnancy, or if it's because I'm not living in NYC or not working, but I guess the kid's getting all of my stress? Just kidding, of course.
Dang this thread moves fast, I'm glad I'm obsessed with it or I'd never catch up. ;)
CircumcisionWe will be circumcising our boy, DH is and our religious beliefs are that it happens as well. We will have it done at the hospital.
I have a dr appt Friday Feb 17th @9am. I'm sure I'll be told I've gained too much. I had only gained 2 lbs at my 18 week appt but the other day my scale said 7 more had been added. I guess 9 total at 24 weeks isnt' bad, but sheesh, I'm not done yet. LOL
So I found some new bedding that I LOVE that does not have denim on it, it's also only $35 for the set instead of $165 like the first one I liked. This set comes with the sheet, the bumper and the quilt. I'll buy a red skirt for the crib and a red and blue valance for the window, spending less than $100!! :)
Tell me what you think!
circumcisionYes
heartbeat My baby's h.b. has always been 160ish and we're having a boy. My dr. told me the heartbeat thing is an old wive's tale.
graffyDon't sweat the 20 pounds. I'm up 24 pounds. My gain seems to have slowed down too, at my last visit I had only gained 2. I was told by my dr. that some people just gain a lot at first, then slow down. I'm also sticking straight out in front. My butt has gotten a bit bigger, but it's mostly belly.
DH has started painting the nursery. I pretty much have all the curtains and wall decor picked out. Hopefully, I will have some pics to post sometime soon! I'm so relieved that it's started and I won't have to worry about getting it done in time. We did have one setback with paint colors. We picked a light blue for the top, with a chair rail in between, with a darker blue on bottom. DH did a little bit of the darker blue and it looked purple. So I had to go back and pick something else. But I think it should be okay now. The lighter blue on top looks great.
My appetite is enormous and I think my fatigue is back. Unless I still haven't caught up from staying up too late one night last weekend. DH gave me the perfect gift for Valentine's Day this year. CHOCOLATE!! He also got me this Willow Tree figurine:
"Hold dear the promise of love."
http://www.cherrylaneangels.com/photos/6569.jpg
I got him the "New Dad" figurine when we got our BFP. Anyway, he made me cry. He's been such a sweetie lately. Maybe he's trying to stay out of the way of the mood swings??
Hello All :D
Wanted to stop in really quickly.
Circ.: We had Nikolas done and this one will be too. He had his done the day after he was born by our OB. I didn't go in the room with Nikolas but it was right next to my hosp room. Brian had just shown up so he went in. They did give him anesthesia for it. Brian said he didn't even cry or flinch. However, after the circ, they put him on a metal table to weigh him and that's when he started screaming. I would too if I was put on a metal table butt naked :D
Weight/Sex: We were so off. Even my dr said it's a girl from the hb's and low and behold we're having a boy.
Well I'm off to bed. Be back tomorrow.
ffanel I was skimming the thread and caught your comment. I have heard people say that you just gain what you need. As long as your Dr. doesn't seem too concerned I would think it is ok. I think I gained about 30lbs with my DS. But I was a bit shocked to hear how much I gained in 4weeks.lol!
H/B & Gender: The h/b has been between 150 and 160, so the OWT was incorrect for us as well. In fact, at my appt before my u/s, my dr told me I would be having a girl based on the h/b! :p Boy was she wrong!! Ha ha!
circ: I left it up to DH and if it's a boy he'll be circumcised. I, however, did not realize there was more than one way to do it. I'll need to look into that.
I wonder if the age restrictions have to do with recovery. We clip tongues (for tongue tied babies) in the office. We ask that the docs send them right over from discharge. When they're newborns, they cry for about 5 seconds (that's with numbing), and then usually go back to sleep and heal beautifully. Older babies have a much harder time and need to be sedated.
weight gain: I also think you gain what you need. I think some women go crazy and eat everything in sight as an excuse- but if you eat within limits, I don't think you have to worry. My cousin gains 50+ pounds with her pregnancies. She needs it. Her babies have bad food allergies and she has to really restrict her diet while she BFs. Her son is 5 months old and she's already at the low end of normal for her height. With 7 more months of nursing, she probably could have afforded much more of a cushion prior to birth. She's going to weigh nothing in another 2 months.
sham: Do you have a website for your announcements? I'd love to see them.
Well, I'm getting really frustrated. I usually get one cold sore a year. I hate them- wish I could stay home for 3-4 days when I get them. I've had 4 in the past 3 months, and am now getting yet another. The last one isn't even healed yet:mad: . It's embarrasing, and as if my complection isn't bad enough I have this.
OK, sorry for the vent:(
Hello All :D
Forgot to add on circ: The decision was Brian's. He is a man so that was his, the same as if we had a girl, ear piercing would have been mine. We also didn't have any problems afterwards like Connorsmommy, poor Connor that sounded horrible :( I guess we were lucky. Hopefully we won't have any problems with this one too, but I will be asking about that bell method.
good morning everyone!
not much here to report. baby is kicking more which makes me very happy. . now I can't wait for DH to feel it!
dan's girl- love the bedding. it's the best sports themed bedding I have seen and I think the red accents will go very nicely.
weight gain- I was up 10 pounds at me 20 week visit. not sure how I am doing now. . not eating as much but what I have been eating has been crap (stupid swedish fish!) so I am not expecting great news at my 24 week visit. we'll see. my DH told me that I was the most beautiful he has ever seen me and that my body is perfect right now! gotta love that man!
sham- I would love to see your stuff too. I have to plan a graduation party and need to spend the invitation money somewhere. so if you do graduation, i would be very interested!
circumcision- I thought we would have an easy answer on this one. a firm yes. but DH waffled last night when I asked him. we don't have to worry about this right now but it was an interesting conversation.
I think thats it. Happy almost Friday!
Can I just say how much I love this group?! This morning I really needed to read how you all felt about the weight issue and you've made me feel so much better. I had an appointment last night and the doctor raised her eyebrows at me when she saw how much I've gained since my last appointment. I'm up 19 total...but 9 of that in the last month! I really don't think that number is accurate. I ate dinner right before my appointment and I usually wait until afterward and I probably didn't make the right food choices this week....but I still wasn't a happy camper last night. I have to track my food intake for the next two weeks and review it with her. :(
But the good news is that the baby is still doing great. Heartrate was 140 last night. It was pretty cool that this time when she used the doppler, I knew when she'd lose the h/b because I could feel the baby moving away from it.
As for the QOTD,
Circ: We haven't made a decision. DH is but his brothers, who are much younger than he, are not. I understand the logic of having it done if the Dad is done but when I presented that thought to DH, he said, "I don't think I've ever seen my Dad's penis." That made me laugh.
Good morning ladies...it's a MUCH better day today. Sorry about my little emotional meltdown yesterday...I'm a little embarassed about it, but I was having a really horrible day.
I must admit that I am loving this part of Pregnancy
Silly, I know, as I'm getting bigger and much more awkward, I'm gaining weight and not fitting any clothes, but I'm really enjoying it.
The baby is moving constantly now (although he's in a breech position and that's why I'm feeling it...I hope he turns eventually) and that makes it all worthwhile.
My belly is getting big and round and even with the stretch marks, I love looking at it and marvelling at how my own body is actually changing to grow this little baby. You see PG women all the time, but to know that my body is doing it and going through it makes me feel very special and complete in a way (I never really believed that I would be able to get PG, so never really thought I would go through the changes.)
I feel like DH and I are coming closer together, which is silly again, but he's been so sweet (for the most part) and I get goose bumps everytime he talks about 'Our Baby' or 'When is he going to get to feel the kicks.' It warms my heart to think of him holding our son and I can't wait until that moment.
And I've been told by many (including my sweet DH and very stoic FIL) that I look beautiful lately. That my skin glows and my hair looks great...I've even been told that I've lost weight (or body fat) and am looking great. It's wonderful to hear, especially after years of self-image problems.
So...all in all I love being PG, which is a huge change from the first trimester, where I couldn't understand why anyone put themselves through this.
Now, if I can just control the emotions and constant teary eyes!
amurphy- Thank you for the reminder of what a great group this is. Last week I was talking to my friend who has a 10 year old son and it was so weird comparing how different pregnancy is because if the internet. Now if we have a question about if something is normal or we need some reassurance we have 1000's of women at CC to ask and a dozen resources to go to. I was telling her how nice it is to go here and say 'This happened to me. Did it happen to you?' and get a dozen replies by the end of the day.
My weight gain- I am up 11 lbs total so far. I was a little concerned at last month's appointment because I gained 6-7 lbs in one month but it caught my attention and I am watching what I eat and try to active for atleast a 1/2 hour a day. I think as long as you are feeling healthy your baby is healthy and that is all that matters.
Dan'sgirl- I love that bedding!
Announcements- I am thinking that I will make my own. I had a lot of input on my wedding invitations and then when I got the end result I thought to myself "Hey... I could have done that!" I have a really talented aunt so I might see her and come up with samples for both sexes and get her input and then make them on my own.
I'll come back in a minute. Need a potty break!
Dans Girl – That bedding is super cute! What a deal!
Jbenny – you’re hubby is a sweetheart. Mine gave me chocolate, too. Give a preggy woman a box of chocolates and she’s guaranteed to be a in a good mood. ;)
Jay&Erin, Shoudaeloped:
Unfortunately, I don’t have a website up (yet). My plan was to have one up by the beginning of this year, BUT since we got pregnant, I’ve decided to hold it off until after the baby is born. I have posted some of my work on other CC threads, so check them out. (One is a set of Birthday Cards and the other is an Airplane Theme Invitation that I made for my DS’s 1st birthday. I do graduations, too.) If you’re interested, feel free to PM me. ;)
Weight Gain- Hey amurphy - don't worry too much about the weight gain. Up until recently, I was pretty bummed about it myself. (I've already gained 13 lbs - PLUS I was already on the heavy side to begin with) I try not to worry about it too much these days. I just keep telling myself..."It ON!" after I have the baby. Gotta get back on track and start working out. Until then, I'll just enjoy eating for now ;)
Mrs.Brownie- I could not have said it any better. I too am loving this part of pregnancy! It's just all becoming so real that there is a life in there. That we are creating life! I don't just feel pregnant anymore.
So my update on Shannon's smoking! He has been a non-smoker for 4 days now! We have read that the first 4 days is the hardest part because your body is going through with drawals. It has been really tough on him and he has been snacking like crazy but I am so proud of him! He is already breathing easier and has stopped snoring at night. The weezing sound in his chest is softer now (that was a big concern of mine). It is amazing how much better he's off in just such a short period of time! I am taking him out to dinner tonight and continuing to do whatever I can to encourage him.
weight gain: I have gained a total of 10 lbs since Oct. when I got my BFP! I stayed at 6-7 lbs gain for quite awhile then this month gained 3 more. Doctor has not said anything about it - told me at the beginning to try to keep it 15-25 lbs b/c I am already a plus sized girlie! I told dh that after this baby is born I will be in full "I gotta lose this weight" mode.
Ramona: That boy sports bedding is really cute & such a great price :) I still have not sent the package your way yet - sorry I am such a slacker I keep forgetting it at home - Hopefully I will remember it tomorrow.
Sham - beautiful work! I didn't realize there was a thread on CC about cardmaking and rubberstamping. I got into cardmaking/stamping last spring, just weeks after Connor's airplane themed birthday party -- I used store bought invitations, but those totally pale in comparison (you can't even compare actually) to your awesome airplane cards!!! That reminds me, I gotta get started on designing and making Connor's surfboard invitations for his Hawaiian beach party birthday party at the end of March...
(and I love those other cards you posted -- the blue/brown combo is what I went with for our holiday/my 30th party invitations back in December!) :)
...gonna have to go join that cardmaking thread now....
All this talk about weight gain and I am right now downing a large macaroni and cheese from Au bon Pain, it must have about 50 grams of fat in it! I went to the OB yest and am up 15 lbs which I am very happy about at 24.5 weeks because I gained a whopping 55 pounds with DS, but I did start off heavier this time around. I will be happy with a 25 pound gain this time. At least we have the summertime to work it all off, right?
QOTD-DS was circ'd about one hour before we were discharged. I was kinda ticked off that they waited till last minute to do it, but he seemed fine afterwards and I never had any problems with infection. We will have it done with baby boy #2 as well....
Weight gain ~ As of my last appointment I was down just over 20 pounds. I'm getting a bit worried about it as I'm still in my regular clothes at almost 24 weeks and don't have a whole lot of appetite especially in the evenings. I have an appointment on Tuesday so maybe I'll have gained some weight now.
Lil Mrs ~ Congrats to your DH. The first few days are the hardest. Go Shannon!
Lil Mrs – that is AWESOME and a great accomplishment for your DH. I am a former smoker myself (quit when I got pg the first time with my DS) and although it was a little easier for me to quit since I was preggo, there were a couple of times where I had urges after DS was born. Happy to say, I haven't had a puff in over 3 years. :D
Connorsmommy – thank you! You must come join the cardmaking thread. They have some great ideas and talented ladies in there. Its soo much fun! :)
Ruby - "At least we have the summertime to work it all off, right?" – Exactly! It’s SOO ON, during the summer time. Maybe we could all start a weight loss thread after we have our babies. For now, let’s just enjoy eating. :)
weight gain: I started to worry these past few weeks as I seem to be gaining more than 1lbs/week. After monitoring my eating (thanks to www.babyfit.com), I realized that I was trying to eat more than I needed. So I've scaled back to eating normally again. I am now at about +9lbs.
For now, let’s just enjoy eating.
:( This past week or so, I am periodically getting some m/s symptoms back. I get nauseous at certain smells or foods. At least now I know which foods work for me. But I'm afraid I can't just enjoy eating. I am still having to stay away from chocolate (it really makes me feel terrible) which is the hardest thing about this pregnancy.
Lil_Mrs: Congrats on helping your DH quit smoking. I bet the support your give him must help him tremendously!
sham: Beautiful cards!!! For some reason card making intimidates me... or maybe I am just afraid to commit to another hobby.
Ramona: Wow that bedding is super! And for the price, it seems like you've hit the jackpot!
Ryan: You're so cute! Look at that belly!
IzzyJune2006: I'm with you. I'm unfortunately finding it difficult to really enjoy eating. I'm still having some aversions, I got sick on Monday, and the indigestion is awful. (You would think all these issues would have helped me keep the weight gain to a minimum! :rolleyes: )
Kaeden's Mommy: Down 20lbs?! I can't even imagine!
Lil_Mrs_0702: Congratulations to you DH. That is a great accomplishment. He should be so proud of himself.
So. I just got back from the gym and the gym scale has me weighing 6 lbs. less than the doctor's scale last night! I'm pretty confident that the gym scale is accurate because I did WW for a long time and used the gym scale to prepare me for what the WW scale would read. I'm not freaking out anymore but I will definitely keep a better eye on my food intake as I would like to keep the gain down a bit.
weight according to my scale, I've already gained about 19 pounds, and I'm only 21 weeks. I had an OB appointment this afternoon and she didn't say anything, so I'm not too worried. However, I will be picking up a pregnancy workout dvd this weekend and starting on that, as well as walking again when the weather gets warmer and it stays light longer.
My next OB appointment is March 20, and I'll also have my 1 hour GTT at this time. Fun, fun. :rolleyes:
Went out last nite for the first time in a long time! DH's band played at this bar and I stayed until after he played and it got too smoky. I had not seen alot of our friends in a long time since I have been so sick so it was nice. Everyone was congratulating us and everything :) . My Dh's bass player said he thought DH had killed me since he had only seen me one time since I became pregnant ;) . It was nice to get dressed and go out and have a good time. I was sooo tired tho. OMG, is anyone else reading the thread with the birth stories? Everything you need to know about childbirth, I think? I really think I shouldn't read anything like that anymore. I also think that I shouldn't go to any childbirth education classes or anything. I haven't been scared about anything until I read stuff like that. Then I worry about it endlessly. I think I might just do better dealing with things as they happen, instead of worrying about when they will happen, what they'll be like, and what should I do?
Hi everyone. I really should take notes as I read since I can't seem to remember anything when it comes time to post.
I hope that everyone has been doing well.
I just wanted to let you all know that you can mark today as the day that shopping BEGAN!!! lol! I hit the outlets and the mall. Stock prices should be rising at all children's clothing stores, as we speak. My hubby is going to die when he sees all the loot...lol!
Unfortunately , I have still been feeling like crap. I made an emergency doctor's appt for tomorrow since I have a new symptom that is really bothering me. I think that it is carpal tunnel in both hands. Even just typing this hurts...both my hands are numb and have a dull throb. I am really worried since I need my hands for work, since I am a licensed skin care therapist and massage therapist. Hopefully the doc will have a magic cure!
I think I might just do better dealing with things as they happen, instead of worrying about when they will happen, what they'll be like, and what should I do?
I almost had panic attacks last time around, I was so nervous about labor (and it wasn't nearly as bad as I made it out to be in my head). I had to stop reading the books. All the stuff they are saying, yes, a lot of it happens but I was just as well off not knowing some of it ahead of time. I mean, that part goes by so quickly and the nurses are there walking you through it...it's the rest of the days after you get home that that really get you!
It is good to have a general idea of what is going to happen, but honestly what I have seen time and again here is women get such a romanticized perfect set of rules for how they want things to be, and then it doesn't go the way they planned and they end up upset for months or years after.
Hello All :D
I'm not feeling well, my throat is very sore and my stomach has been hurting since last night. I woke up at 4:30 with the worst heartburn and now I feel like crap.
Just wanted to respond to Birth: I went into Niko's so relaxed. I wasn't scared at all. In fact I was SUPER EXCITED that I'd be meeting him soon. I *knew* in the back of my head that things could happen but never let them bother me. Niko's birth was less than perfect and now I'm already panicing about this one :eek: I keep freaking out thinking the same thing may happen and I know the chances are slim, but still I worry :( So now my "birth bliss" is a little clouded. Nothing I can do about it now, so I just have to wait, hope and pray.
SSSSHHHHH: We may have a name?? I don't want to jinx it, again, so I'm being cautious I said it once before and I said I liked it, but it wasn't Gabriel, but Brian won't budge on that so we've been tossing Nathan around again. We'll see. PLEASE don't acknowledge this name at all for us, it may stick that way :D I fear if someone says they like it or something, something will happen :D I know, I'm a goober :D
Ok, need to try to motivate to do something/anything today. Be back later.
Pink: sounds like you had fun last night... Dh & I are getting dressed up to go to a dinner dance tomorrow night .. so it should be fun to go out for once instead of just going to work/home.
jbenny: what birthing thread? Now you have my curious... I must say I started to read some pamphlet that my dr. gave me and it showed colored photos of how the baby progresses during labor and what it does during labor and I put the magazine down... and thought i am not ready to read this just yet.
Shopping ~ I'm with Maryanne! Our little girl has a huge wardrobe already and the clothes are coming in from all directions - my mom, sister, grandma, etc. I need to buy more hangers already and she's not even due for almost 4 months!
Birth ~ I went into Kaeden's birth with some nerves, but figuring I'd do the best I could without meds and if I needed them I'd be open to taking it. I loved my L&D. I woke up at 4am leaking fluid. Went to the hospital where I found I was already 4 cm. I didn't feel a contraction for about 2.5-3 hours after I got there. We walked the halls, used the tub, and finally the pain was horrendous - contractions one after another with no time to recover. So, I had my epi and felt wonderfully. After the epi I went from 4cm-9cm in an hour. Another hour and I was ready to push. It did take 2.5 hours of pushing to bring him into the world. I did have a tear (not sure the degree) and needed few stitches, but all in all - 12 hours of labor wasn't too bad. I'm hoping and praying that this one goes as well.
B]Ryan u look great and in such awesome shape! what a cute belly.
NikosMommy i hope u get to feeling better soon. good luck on the name choice. we're having a hard time with a middle name for a boy. i think our girl name is pretty much set in stone. dh had decided that one before we were even married and its pretty much stuck:)
jbenny75 i started to read that thread before i knew i was pg and i was like wow! now i dont care to read anything related to l&d at all! i mean i know this baby is coming out and there's no ifs, and, or buts about it. but i dont want the gory details that will scare me and freak me out and i still have 4mths to go :rolleyes:
i do want a Natural birth but i dont want to be idealistic about it and have this picture painted that everything will be so perfect and awesome - that might stress me out more. so when i have ladies tell me about their experience i just listen and smile....sometimes i choose to tune out. i have a friend who says i should just go the c-section route and forget everythign else. i DONT want a c-section period. i really want to do everything possible to go natural. i talked with my doc about this and he was very open to me trying anything so hopefully it will go well.
maryanne its so exciting to shop for baby:) our little surprise has quite a few outfits already (mostly the basic stuff but its quite a bunch and i keep wanting to buy more but dh is making me cool it!
birth -- I do want to go as natural as possible, but will take things as they come. I'm just trying to remember that Dawson's birth may not be exactly like Connor's, and that I need to prepare for just about anything
With Connor, we had a fairly good labour/delivery. Honestly, while in labour, I was peacefull MOST of the time. As you know, he came early (a surprise). I went into labour around 1 a.m. and didn't KNOW I was in labour until 4 a.m. after the Dr. told me I was 4 cm. If she hadn't told me, I still wouldn't have believed I was actually in labour.
So my peacefullness came from not having weeks and weeks of panicking about the impending birth. I had a few moments of panic followed by, "well, there's no turning back now...so no use panicking" thoughts.
....And you need to remember that labour might not be as bad as you expect it.
For me, the contractions were more like menstrual cramps for several hours. It wasn't until they broke my water at 10:30 a.m. that I truly believed I was in labour. Only then did I feel real pain and had to ask for the gas mask (and then, later, morphine -- though I didn't get much and it didn't get into my system before he was born!). BUt even though things were getting worse/starting to hurt, I knew that no matter what happened next, the end was near -- and that gave me peace to get through until he was born at 11:56 a.m.
Then the REAL scary stuff happened -- he had to stay in the NICU for a couple of weeks... and then they actually sent me home with him. They actually trusted me that I could take care of a baby.
And that was scarier than any pre-labour L&D thought I'd ever had or birth story I'd ever read. ;)
My L & D was very similiar to Kaeden's mommy except that I was induced in the hospital the night before I delivered, everything went really well and I was in good spirits throughout the labor once I had that wonderful epidural. I am hoping this labor will go as smoothly, but I try not have too many expectations because anything can happen. Looking forward to being induced again this time around, especially since I'll have to arrange for care for DS. I think listening to other peoples labor nightmares is just a bad idea for your psyche....
Just a heads up- Old Navy is having a maternity sale online. I'm going to head to the store tonight to see if there are some good deals there.
Birth: I went into labor hoping I could go natural, but knowing I'd rather take pain meds than feel out of control from pain. I ended up with meds and wasn't disappointed at all in the end. I started having contractions at 9:00pm. Right off the bat they were 2 minutes apart. We went to the hospital around 12:30 or 1:00 and I was only 1 cm. By 3:00 am I was asking for stadol and was still only 1 cm. By 6:30 (I think- it gets a little hazy) I asked for an epidural. I started crying when they checked me and I was still only 1 cm after 9.5 hours of contractions every 2 minutes and no sleep. I think if I had been progressing I'd have handled it better. Finally they started pitocin around 1:00 pm since I wasn't dilating at all. I asked for more pain meds through the epidural and if I could change positions about an hour later (the nurse didn't want me to lay on my right side, but that's where I wanted to be- I think I knew what was best. I napped for 45 minutes and went from 3 to 10 cm in that time period. I pushed for about 5 minutes and delivered Mia. Overall, it was an easy labor and delivery. I'm hoping my body kicks in a little quicker this time, and maybe I won't need the meds- we'll see. As soon as it was over I said I would do it again- so it couldn't have been THAT bad.
they actually sent me home with him. They actually trusted me that I could take care of a baby.
That was my thought too. DH and I kept saying in the hospital room- you mean they're really going to let us take her home. We don't know anything about babies.
I'm getting a brace for my right wrist this weekend since the carpal tunnel has gotten worse and i'm right handed, she wants me to wear it at night so the tendions can rest from being abused at work on the computer all day. Ugh!
My weight gain is at7lbs right now. I gained 5lbs this last month alone:rolleyes: ,but she wasnt concerned, saying that even if I gain a lb per week until the end I'll still be under the recommended 25 lbs for my original weight (i'm a plus size).
So all is well, my next appointment is March 17th. 1 hour glucose test that day as well. Fun fun!
Have a great weekend ladies. I should have belly shots by monday to share.(GULP!)
hoooo boy, the obsession is about to hit me again...
I think every mother has an obsession (or three) of somekind or another. For some, it's strollers. For some it's slings. For some, it's car seats.... You get the drift.
For me, it's Robeez.
second timers may already know about these, but they might be unknown to first timers - Robeez baby shoes (they go up to larger toddler sizes). http://www.robeez.com
Connor LIVED in these little leather shoes from about 5 months until last summer. They hold up so well...and are perfect for keeping socks on little bitty baby feet.
Anyway, a store near where I work is going out of business and has had an ongoing 25% off everything sale for the past few weeks. They had Robeez, but not much selection left when they started their sale. THIS week they upped the discount to 35% and TODAY I noticed they brought in more Robeez stock, including new releases.
DH is going to KILL me when I come home with 10+ pairs of Robeez tonight. oops! Oh well... I'll justify it by saying I'll be reselling MOST of the pairs on eBay to make a profit (thus technically making Dawson's Robeez free...). But, now, to choose which pairs to buy...and then which ones to actually keep! eek!
Somebody, HIDE my mastercard....
They are really cute! Have fun shopping everyone! I have been picking up a few things here and there. I've been going for stuff with puppies and DH is already telling me that the baby's stuff needs to be more boyish. He says he needs footballs and trucks, not puppies:rolleyes:. One pro about us having a boy is that I won't me spending a TON of money on all of those cute little girl clothes.
my birth story: I started feeling back pain about 530 in the morning nothing major but I tried to lay back down for awhile then it started moving into my sides & then I started cramping ... at that point I knew I was in labor. I left for the hospital at 930 got admitted around 1015 after they checked me & saw that I was 5 cm dialated. My contractions were already pretty regular - I got an epidural shortly after that & LOVED IT cause I do not remember much pain at all. I delivered Andrew at 1:43 pm I did have an episiotmy (SP?) which did not hurt at the time of delivery but for about a week after it hurt to go to the bathroom. I took alot of sitz baths & used witch hazel. I was very lucky to have such a quick easy birth - I hope & pray this one is about the same.
Babylust: great pic :)
kaedens: my friends little boy has tons of Robeez he has some cute little brown & beige squirrel ones.
No time to write anything profound...DH is just about to start painting and I'm being Booted out of the house. He's not budging on me helping paint, and so far the entire family (we had to call around last night to get opinions) is supporting him. So off to my parents I go...well, at least I don't have to do any work.
Connorsmommy ~ I have a Robeez obesession lately too, but so far I haven't been very successful. Would you mind looking out (and possibly buying) some of those for me. I hate to ask, but I've only seen them in stores around here for $30+...I would be willing to pay you for them first. I'm looking for a totally navy blue pair, a baseball pair and a pair of trainers (light blue, dark blue and white) all in 0-6 months. Just if you happen to see them of course (no big deal if you don't.)
Alright...off to my parents, dh is starting to get mad at me for hanging around.
Hello All :D
Pink I feel ya pain. I thought it may have been a one time thing, but last night I finally broke down, went to Rite Aid and got some Zantac 75. My dr has that on the list of things ok to take during pg and the pharmacist double checked to make sure it's still ok. I took it and about an hour later I was good to go.
The pharmacist said it sounds like acid reflux :( My stomach burns, but every time I burp (sorry tmi) I get a burning feeling in the back of my throat. I was hoping it was a day thing, but again this morning I had to take another one. All I had was frosted flakes with milk so I know it's not what I'm eating that's aggrevating it.
I'm going to call the dr on Monday and talk to the nurse to see what she says.
There are so many birth stories out that, it's interesting to see how we differ. The only thing in common is we all have little ones running around now :D
I read the birth stories thread and agree that Colace & ice pack pads are your best friends :D
If I could give any advice... if you're going to get an epidural, when the nurse tells you to get it, get it. I thought I'd be a hero and wait. Well, they broke my water and she said let's order it for you and I said no I'll wait. Well I should have listened to her. 45 minutes later I finally got it and it wasn't soon enough. The nurse knows best :D
Hey Mrs. Brownie! I won't be by that store until Monday, but I'll look out for the pairs you want. Though, when I was there yesterday there were no plain pairs or baseball ones. Though I THINK I saw the blue trainers.... I'll check it out. But, sucky thing is, y ou're in Canada, and by the time I ship to you, it could be just as expensive. Like, as in $8 or more to Ontario. If I ship with none of the packaging (just the actual shoes stuffed in the envelope), it might be able to go as an oversized letter (just a couple bucks).
Anyway, I'll go look for those trainers on Monday but won't buy until I hear back from you! Sound good? e-mail me at knmerrick at yahoo.ca -- and let me know if you definitely still want me to look for just the trainers.
weight- as of my last appointment I'd only gained 3 lbs
birth- wasn't as bad as I thought it was, though back labor is a pain in the ass!...water broke at 4:30, hung out at home until 7:30 when the doc said to head to the hospital (30 min away), was 4 cm dilated when I got there, at 9:30 I had some stadol (steroid) and around 10:30 I got an epidural, my son was born at 11:49.
robeez- love love love them! check out www.robeez.com, for the US, price is about $26, they also have robeez knock offs at Target that I've heard are decent, not sure of the price though.
OMG OMG how close are we getting to the third trimester now? It's all starting to sink in...
weight-still nothing...midwife said it wasn't anything to worry about since the baby's heartrate and growth is on track.
birth-would love a natural birth and are currently booked into the local birth centre so barring complications this is what'll be happening. Starting birthing classes in a week and am reading through New Active Birth by Janet Balskas which is fascinating. It's amazing how our bodies are designed to do this!! :) Am feeling nervous now though as I was just told this week that I have an anterior placenta which means my chances of having a posterier baby are increased so will need to be active in trying for optimal fetal positioning in the last week weeks to try and avoid back labour.
robeez-I've never seen these before but boy they look cute! :)
How many things normally are on a baby registry? I have about 40 items so far, (and probably have at least that much left to register for), which includes alot of little stuff like rattles, washcloths, burp diapers, etc. I feel like its already alot, and I don't want it to look like I just asked for everything, although I do need everything!! What is normal?????
Thanks!
Baby Lust
JCharley, I have approx 90 things on one of my registries, and basically I did register for everything I need. I think of it as giving people options. :) I guess if I saw a huge registry like that, I might think "Jeez!" but I might not.. If anyone asks, you could always say it was the best way to keep track of what you need, received and didn't receive. *shrug* I wouldn't worry about it! Babies need lots of things!
I'll be back later to catch up.
jcharley - our registry has 44 items. If I had registered for every little thing like lotion and baby wash, etc it could have been close to 100. I kept mine short because I hate going to BRU to get a registry and it has like 11 pages. It is too hard to sort through in the store. Also it if limit it, I can hopefully get the things on the list that I really want/need.
jbenny75
02-19-2006, 07:42 AM
Registry I just went in to BRU and finished up my registry yesterday. I have 77 items, but I need to go back and fix my onesies and tshirts, cause I somehow scanned the wrong sizes and amounts, so I'll probably end up about 80ish after I fix that. I had scanned in a bunch of toys, but I took them all off because I figured people will buy that stuff on their own as a little add-on to the gift, (I usually do), and I want people to concentrate on the stuff I really need. I also took off a few things that I figured weren't really necessary. Also, in my area, they usually do a wishing well at a baby shower, and you bring little items like shampoo, lotion, powder, rattles, small toys, etc to fill the wishing well, so I didn't register for any of that stuff.
Hello All :D
Kaeden's I saw that same ad this morning. That's a really good sale. We got that bouncer for Nikolas and HE LOVED IT. That thing was a life saver.
Registry: I had a ton of stuff the first time too and got most it, but realized I didn't need all of it. You pretty much do laundry all the time so you don't need more than 10 burp cloths cause you'll be washing the dirty ones right away. Same goes for onsies and everything else. It will get washed immediately. I think our laundry increased from once a week to about 3 times a week. It has slowed down now luckily.
weight: Don't remember what I'm at now. I'm still less than when I started, but that is because of the first tri sickness and then when I was in the hosp both times. They only had me on liquids so that didn't help :/
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
I'll be 22 weeks either tomorrow or Tuesday (depending on if you go by my O date or the date the u/s tech gave) and it's finally starting to sink in that in 20 weeks I'll be a mother and my life will be changed forever. I know I want this baby, I've wanted a baby with DH since forever, but the enormity of what is about to happen is finally sinking in. I'm freaking out that I'm going to be a bad mom. I don't know how much babies eat and how often. I've never given an infant a bath. I've changed diapers and put them to sleep, etc, but that was with my sisters, having your own baby is a million times different and a million times harder. I try talking to DH about it and he just laughs at me and tells me I'll be a wonderful mother. I wish he would acknowledge that this is a huge thing that will change things forever. I won't be able to just be lazy for a day and do nothing. I'll have a baby that is depending on me. I keep telling myself that if my cousin and her husband can do it (both younger and way more immature than me and DH) we can do it. It doesn't help. :(
Anyone else having doubts about their ability to be a good parent?
Mystikal, I have the same fears as you, and I'm sure all first-time moms feel the same way. I always wonder how I am going to learn everything! But I know that I will be a wonderful mom, and so will you! Try not to worry, but know that your fears are not yours alone! There are a ton of us in this thread that are in the same boat! {{HUGS}} :)
I think all reasonably sane people have similar thoughts as yours when they are about to become parents. It is a huge responsibility! And it is a HUGE lifestyle change. But somehow, you just do it, And if you read and talk to other moms and trust your instincts and your partner, it is manageable and even pleasurable to learn about yourself and your new baby. After a while, it seems like you were always a mom.
My DH and I agree that going from 0 to 1 was harder (for us) than going from 1 to 2. Now we are going to 3! It is going to be an adventure! I am certainly hoping we handle it well . . . .
Mystikal: I am more scared this go around than being 19 & a single mom. Can you believe that? I survived raising my ds alone til he was 6 (when I met dh) but this time it is like everything is new all over again. There is going to be such a big age difference that I feel like a brand new mom all over again. I know this is going to be a world of change for my dh which has only been around his cousins when they were babies (11-16 yrs ago) Somehow all of us will make it through.
good morning everyone.
dan's girl- nice belly shots! you definitely have a baby in there!
mystikal- my DH and I were just talking about this same issue this past weekend. I am way too lazy to have a baby and I definitely like to sleep in. I like to spend my money on me and dictate my own weekend plans. I am not a creature of routine and am nervous about having to change all of that. that being said, after 2 miscarriages, I know that I want this baby. I know she is going to change my life forever for the better and I can't wait to meet her. but it doesn't change the fact that I am scared stupid most of the time. I am taking solace in the fact that this is normal and most first time moms go through this. shoot, I still have a hard time believing this is really happening!!!
registry- I only have 9 items on mine so far. we are finishing up on DH's spring break in 2 weeks. anyone registering in more than one place??
bought my first baby clothes this weekend!!! very cute pink and green frog onesie and bright pink watermelon onesie from Gymboree on sale. I think I am definitley going to spend too much money!
my next appointment is Tuesday, February 28th for a checkup and the GTT will be on Friday, March 24th.
have a great day everyone!
Ramona ~ Fab belly shots! You're looking great. You've definitely got "the glow!"
Shoulda ~ You just bought her first outfits! You need to teach me some restraint, girl! I've got almost a full closet already. :eek: :rolleyes:
Nerves about having baby ~ I'm not feeling too nervous - probably because DS is only 18 months. I am not looking forward to getting up in the middle of the night, but I know it's only temporary.
We're off to the doctor this afternoon as DS has his 18 month WBV and shots. :( Then, we'll do a little shopping, I suppose. I think that at 24 weeks it may be time to think about maternity clothes. My jeans are still okay, but I have a long torso and my shirts are starting to get short.
We did go to Toys 'R Us last night. We bought DS a booster seat and a new truck. DD got a new Boppy (15% off right now) and a mobile (20% off right now)!
ETA: My ticker says 110 days to go! Only 10 days until double digits! Woohoo!
Good morning everyone!
Hope you all had great weekends. Mine was very uneventful, but my wonderful DH (with some help from my parents) got the nursery painted. It's all done! We still have to put up the moulding and paint that, but other than that, it's fully painted and touched up and absolutely GORGEOUS!
I am so happy with how the two colours turned out (we went with Green on the bottom and yellow on the top) and they match perfectly to the bedding.
I can hardly wait to get the furniture in now and be able to start loading things into the room. But it feels so great to know that it's done and as soon as the furniture arrives, we can load it into the room.
Now that it's empty and painted, I find myself just wandering in and looking all about...I keep thinking that in just over three months our baby will be living here with us. It's definitely sinking in now.
What else...keep buying things for the baby. Everytime I go out I buy something for him or his room. I've now got all the accessories I will need (other than a thermometer) but I've got all the lotions and potions that I could possibly used safely stored in my 'baby closet.' I'm heading out at lunch to buy some baskets to keep things in.
Connormommy ~ You are right about the shipping and taxes, I thought about it after I wrote it. But, if you do happen to see the trainers in 0-6 months, could you pick those up for me. I haven't been able to find them here, and just being able to get them would be great.
Sunshine ~ Those pink Robeez are so cute...unfortunately, I'm going the boy route, but there are so many cute girl ones too. I have been looking at them on Ebay and bought one pair (bid on quite a few though) but by the time I have them shipped from the US, it costs me about the same as just going to the store to buy them. So I'm being selective.
Dan's Girl ~ You're pictures look great. I haven't had the guts to post any recently, but I probably should. I definitely need to take some more, as I noticed this weekend that my belly button is 'almost' gone. I started off with a very deep belly button and it's slowly disappeared, which means I'm getting bigger everyday.
Mystikal ~ Just wondered if there was any news or progress on the leaky boobs yet? I found this weekend that I have two ducts (so far) connected on each side, which is just thrilling to me. I find I keep squeezing my poor BB's just to make sure they still leak (and guess what...the do!)
First Baby Freak-Out ~ I haven't really had that yet. I mean, the enormity of what we are embarking on has hit hard a couple of times, and I've questioned how I will be as a mother a few times, but haven't had any really scary moments yet. I'm sure they will come though. I think for now I'm just really enjoying being PG (eventhough I will complain to DH) and I'm excited about shopping, buying things and getting the nursery set up...I don't think I've stopped long enough to get worried.
Here is my attempt at catching up.
Registry – I think we are done. I thought about registering at Target in addition to BRU, but I don’t want to manage 2 lists. I managed more than one for our wedding it is just a hassle. My family doesn’t have a BRU near them…just a TRU, but they can get some things from TRU.
Day Care – I started calling today and so far I’ve had no luck. No one has availability.
I may have to hit TRU after work today to catch some sales. I really need to stop buying baby stuff and wait for my showers, but I want the stuff now so I can play with it.
Dan’s Girl, Ryan and Baby Lust – great belly shot. I hope I didn’t’ miss anyone
OK…finally ..how to check for inverted nipples (I’ve been carrying this book around for over a week)
Excerpt from So That’s what they’re for!
Stand in front of a mirror. Cup you hand under your breast, and at the areola tissue, press your thumb down, gently squeezing the tissue between your thumb and your four fingers cupping your breast. If the nipple pops out, it is normal. If it flattens so that it’s level with the surrounding tissue or turns inward, that means it will flatten or invert in your baby’s mouth. Guess what? You have flat or inverted nipples.
According to the book, the solution is breast shields or Hoffman’s Technique.
Weight – according to the scale on Friday at my doctor’s office. I am up 20lbs. How is that possible??? I don’t feel like I’ve gained that much. Oh well.
Nerves about having a baby – None yet.
Lil_mrs – congrats on Dh’s accomplishment.
Robeez – I definitely want them and am surprised I don’t already have a few pair.
Next appt is March 16
Baby’s room – It is coming along quite well. My parents came up this weekend and brought the crib and dresser. It is looking great. We still need to put up the crown molding, finish painting some of the trim, clear and organize the closet. Other than that, I am very excited about how it is coming together and can sit in the room for hours just admiring it. When the glider comes in the furniture will be complete. DH is out of town until Wednesday night, so I spent yesterday evening, folding and hanging clothes. I’m still not sure what the ideal clothes set up is so I’m just playing around. None of the clothes are washed yet so I’ll have to set up all over again. I’m still undecided on what to put in drawers and what to hang. So far I plan on putting diapers in the top drawer, plainish onesies, socks and pajamas in the middle drawer and play clothes, bibs and hats in the bottom drawer. Any suggestions????? The dressier/nicer clothes are on hangers. I put some of the nicer onesies on hanger, but I’m not sure If I should just put them in the drawer wit the other onesies. Two of them are collared and the other is just cute. What do you think? I put a sheet on the mattress and a cover on the changing pad….once again…none of it is washed yet. I’ll post pics of the room and the diaper bags at some point after DH gets back with the digital camera.
Mrs. Brownie – I keep buying stuff too. I had put some room décor stuff on our registry, but whenever I’m in BRU I buy it. Now the only décor item on it is the hamper which I may go buy tonight. I bought some JnJ baby wash and lotion from Target yesterday since it was on sale. I want to pick up some Aveeno and JNJ naturals too so I’m on the lookout for sales. I’m not sure what products I want to use, so I want a little of everything.
Enough for now.
Confession time:
Are you doing anything in your pg that you *shouldn't* be doing? Or are you NOT doing something that you SHOULD be?
I don't know what is wrong with me -- I don't take my prenatal vitamin every day. I'm getting better about remembering it, but for some time before Christmas, I was lucky if I took it twice a week. I think it was because it kind of made me feel icky, so I'd take it at night right before going to bed...but some nights I would just forget.
I'm not overly worried though because I eat fairly healthy and I remember from my first pg that baby will take what they need from you -- vitamin stores in your body, etc. And I was good about taking my multi vitamins with folic acid before getting pg. Heck, through my first pg, my Dr. told me to just take my usual multi-vitamin (after she examined the bottle to check the amount of folic acid, etc.)
Question about how far along I am...
I have received two different due dates during my PG so far. The first, based on my last LMP was May 30th The second came after my first U/S and they adjusted my due date to June 2nd
When they adjusted my due date at my 12week U/S, because we hadn't told anyone we were PG until that time, we went with the June 2nd date. But I found out at my last M/W appointment that they are still using and planning on the May 30th due date. The letter they have prepared for work will also have the May 30th date (which means I cannot work past May 30th)
So, if I go by the May 30th due date, I will be 26 weeks tomorrow ori I go by the June 2nd due date, I will be 26 weeks on Friday.
Which date should I be using?
I think I'm overanalyzing this and should just stick with the June 2nd date as that's what we've used al along, but part of me can't help but want to be the earlier date. I have no doubts (I say this now of course, but it's based on family history) that I will be overdue and we will have a June baby...but still...
So what date should I be using? Opionions anyone?
MrsBrownie i have the same problem with the due date thing....based on my LMP my due date is June 7, but on the first ultrasound it said June 11 (the doc said the ultrasound is more accurate so we went by the ultrasound) but at our last ultrasound cos of the measurements the baby was measuring ahead so they said maybe May 27 :confused:
so i have a time from 27 May-11 June of when i could deliver. we decided to stick by the first ultrasound date since we've heard those are usually most accurate. i have another friend who is due 2wks before me and her baby measured ahead as well and they gave her a different due date but she's sticking to the first one.
I have received two different due dates during my PG so far. The first, based on my last LMP was May 30th The second came after my first U/S and they adjusted my due date to June 2nd
When they adjusted my due date at my 12week U/S, because we hadn't told anyone we were PG until that time, we went with the June 2nd date. But I found out at my last M/W appointment that they are still using and planning on the May 30th due date. I'm not sure... but I vote we should kick you out of the group anyway for daring to join this group under false pretenses. ;)
Seriously though…. I sort of had the same issue last time. When I had Connor, my own due date based on LMP was April 28, but my U/S at 9 weeks said May 1, so my dr. went with that one b/c it was a nice even date. And, by saying I was due in May, I figured I was going to avoid people calling me April 1 wondering where the baby was. LOL - boy did Connor fool us, coming on March 29!!
(besides, it makes our preemie story that much more dramatic when we retell it - I had our MAY baby in MARCH!) :) LOL!
Confession time: I eat feta cheese. Everything says don’t eat soft cheese. I check if they are made with pasteurized milk than I eat it. I’m not sure if there are other issues with eating soft cheeses.
Mrs Brownie – I would use what ever date is most convenient for you and work. If you want to work as long as possible, then put June 2nd. Why can’t you work past the date you give them? I told my boss June 21, but I plan to work until I can no longer work whether that is before or after the 21st.
Mrs. Brownie: with my son by my LP my due date was March 28 but my u/s showed me being due April 7 which was alittle over a week difference. I had him on April 1st. I worked up til March 20th which seemed like forever til he finally came ... there is only sooo much you can do while being home bored (clean, watch TV, walk, wait ... wait .. wait) This time I hope to work til I can't work any more that way I will have more time off after baby is here.
Edited to say: I've heard before that only like 5-15% of babies are born on their actual due date.
Has anyone had wierd dreams or feelings like their water is going to break while in public? I am having this fear. My water had to be broken with Andrew after I got admitted to the hospital. I just do not want to be in a public place and have it happen (work, walmart, baby store etc) this time.
Confessions ~ I haven't given up Diet soda 100%. I've done a lot of research on apsartame which said that it should be fine within moderation. I've also heard this from neonatalogists (sp?) and other doctors.
MrsBrownie ~ I'd use whichever date you prefer. They're only 3 days apart so just pick one or maybe pick one in the middle. ;) Due dates aren't exact. I'd probably go for the May due date just so I could feel further along. :)
Sunshine - we cross-posted.
Has anyone had wierd dreams or feelings like their water is going to break while in public?
I haven't had any dreams or feelings, but it's something that makes me a little nervous. I was leaking fluid and that's how I knew I was starting labor with DS. I'm really afraid it will break at work.
3rd trimester thread ~ I'd like to wait 3-4 more weeks if that's okay. I'm due on June 10th (close enough to middle) and am 24w2d. 3rd trimester for me starts March 11th. Please let me know your thoughts on the new thread.
Congrats to all those who have their nurseries done! How very exciting!!!
Weight - I think I'm up about 12lbs. A couple more than I'd like, but I think I'm still within the limits. I have my next appointment on Friday, and I shudder at the thought of stepping on the scale.
Confession time... - Like Kaeden's Mommy, I haven't completely given up diet soda. I manage to cave in and have one Caffeine-Free diet soda about once a week. I just get so sick of drinking water! I've also been eating packaged deli turkey which is supposed to be a no-no, but lately I've been heating it up before I eat it.
dreams/feelings of water breaking - none yet. I really haven't had many baby dreams yet, as I've been totally wiped when I go to bed.
Freaking-out - Definitely been feeling twinges of this from time to time. I've been reading alot about those first few days and it makes me nervous - I haven't spent alot of time around babies lately, so I too am nervous about things like changing diapers, knowing how to figure out what the baby needs, etc. And we have no family here, and I have no friends yet since we just moved, so that makes me doubly nervous. But I figure, women have been doing this forever, so I've bot to be able to do this too.
brownie- I had the same issue. according to my charting, I was due 6/23. doctor gave me 6/20 and since the ultrasounds (all of them) have me measuring right around there, I just stuck with the earlier date. I figure the baby is going to come when it wants regardless of the day I pick and the 20th is 3 days further along!!!
3rd trimester thread- I am fine waiting. I have another month to go too.
confession time- I have been doing pretty good with food although i do indulge in the occasional sushi outing. . all cooked. . but still sushi. my biggest lapse in judgment has been total and complete lack of exercise. I try to walk and I try to swim and I try to do yoga but I am just not motivated. there are so many other things going on around me that are much more intersting. I know I am going to regret it later.
water breaking- funny you mention this. I am terrified of this all the time. so much so that last time I was at the doctor, I asked her to check!! everything was normal and it made me feel better but only for about a week. but then again. . I am terrified of everything. preterm labor, water breaking, infection, cord accidents. I wish for ignorant bliss sometimes! (I just reread your post and saw that you just meant in public. . I am just afraid of it breaking anywhere at this point!)
Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm still not sure what date I should use, but figure I will just stick with the June 2nd date. My last ultrasound (I've had three) actually had my due date as May 28th, so it does keep getting earlier and earlier.
For work, I'm not sure the reasoning behind not letting me work past my due date. I did figure out though that the May 30th date works better for me and payroll (in getting my Maternity Leave payment sooner) so that's what I'm going with for them. I'm planning on holding out as long as possible, especially since everyone in my department will be at a conference until May 29th (we're cutting it close, but should keep things interesting.)
Confessions ~ I have quite a few, but not overly concerned about them. I have still been consuming caffeine...usually comes in the form of an iced cappucino (which is a mix) or tea. I've also had sushi (raw fish) several times, but not worried about that as it comes from a reputable place (and no problems in all the years I've been eating there.) I also have a deli sandwich from the cafeteria about twice a week, withouth heating it. But compared with other options, I figure it's my safest bet.
Breaking Water ~ I haven't had any thoughts about this at all...maybe I should start (just kidding, too much to worry about already.) I have been having alot of strange dreams that I remember though, which is unusual. I've had three dreams in the last four weeks related to my boss. I must have some guilt at leaving the office for a year and wake up crying every time...not enjoying those ones.
New thread ~ Since I'm not the one investing the time into this (thank you Threadmistress) I'm not even going to worry about it. Whenever you have the time to do it, is when it should get done. And thanks again for doing it.
Quick Dose of Reality
Was just checking out the October Mommies thread and they have an EDD of October 27th over there. That means we will soon be seeing a November Mommies thread.
Can you believe that...it means we are getting closer and closer. Hard to believe only three more months to get through and we will be in June.
mrs brownie: I noticed that about the Oct. mommies group the other day. I can't believe there will be Nov mommies any day now.
Yall know how much I am in love with the Flutterbye collection by Kidsline.
http://www.kidslineinc.com/ItemCollectionv2.aspx?CollectionId=138
Well I had made arrangements with this girl on EBAY to buy the drapes/curtains for $25 + $5 shipping (they are $59 if you buy them online) and she was going to email me an online invoice to pay from using paypal well that was over a wk ago .... I email her back & she has not responded & I noticed that she has posted them up for sale again on Ebay. Why do some people have to be so s--tty?
So I have been looking online today for some other bedding sets. I thought about getting a solid colored set (purple) & adding some of the flutterbye cheaper items with it. The whole flutterbye set would cost me over $250 - I even found this mega cheap set today
http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/02/22/66/04/0002226604032_500X500.jpg
If I ended up getting a cheaper set then I could buy a solid colored crib skirt, some extra sheets, valance & border and would even have $$$$ to buy a glider rocker & ottoman that I REALLY want. decisions decisions!
new thread - I don't care when either. I was just curious if we had decided when to start one. It is almost hard to believe that I am just 4 weeks from the 3rd trimester.
At my appt on Friday it was confirmed that there is a boy in there. She got a great shot of his man part.
Thanks for the compliments on my belly ladies! I finally feel like I look pregnant! (6 months into it! :rolleyes: )
New thread: Completely fine whenever it starts! Though I am anxious to see "We made it!" in the title!! :p
Confessions: I have been bad about taking my PNVs too. I take them at night before bed and am sometimes so exhausted I forget. I have never gone more than 3 days without them though, so I'm not *too* worried.
Name: DH and I have officially decided on Lucas for the first name, and most likely Nathaniel for the middle name. No significance. Just 2 names we both really like and they sound good together so why the heck not, right? :p We aren't telling anyone IRL besides our parents though and already it has been hard with everyone asking. Have to come up with an excuse for the upcoming weeks! :rolleyes:
Brownie no leaky boobs yet. I have been checking, though, and lately I've had this whitish stuff come out that looks almost like what comes out of a pimple or blackhead when you squeeze it. :eek: I wonder what that means??
Thanks everyone - it's good to know I'm not the only one having freak outs. I was starting to think I was a weirdo! :p
Nursery we haven't even started ours yet, and won't for another four weeks. I'm going insane, but before we can start we need to tear out all the walls, get rid of the mold infestation, and put in new insulation and sheetrock, and we don't have the extra cash for that until two paychecks from now. I really wish I could start now. *sigh*
jay&erinn
02-20-2006, 06:46 PM
Mystikal: I have what you're talking about also. When/if your milk comes in, you'll notice it a lot more. I'd take it as a good sign.
Brownie: Be careful with how much you test out those milk ducts. There is some evidence that nipple stimulation can induce labor. I know how hard it can be to wait and see- especially after surgery.
Confessions: Soft cheese (although, only if it's pasturized) and deli meat (mostly cooked). I guess those aren't so bad. Of course, ice cream for dinner probably isn't considered a "healthy" diet:rolleyes:
Names: We're not even close. One of these days DH and I'll have to sit down and actually discuss it (hopefully not while I'm in labor).
Water Breaking: I had this fear the first time around. My boss is a little anal, so we joke that if my water broke at work, he'd ask me to clean it up before going to the hospital. He's actually a great boss, and wouldn't dare- at least I hope not. I'd prefer not to find out.
Weight: I'm up around 10 pounds. I don't know where the weight comes from. DH and I went out to eat saturday night. The next morning I was up 2.5 pounds. They haven't gone away either. This is how I gained the last 3 too- literally overnight. It's very frustrating.
Freaking Out: I still feel this way at times and Mia is almost 2.5. Now I panic that I won't have as much time for Mia, and will this baby be short changed in attention. How am I going to go back to all the sleepless nights?
I'm sooo much huger this time around.... crazy to think that I've gained exactly the same amount of weight (10 lbs at 21 weeks this time; 10 lbs at 22 weeks last time), yet I'm so much bigger -- or at least, I think I am.
so .. huge news for us. DH felt the baby move last night! I was thrilled. he was thrilled. it was very cool. of course I can't get her to move this morning but DH felt it and that's what I'm going with! very exciting!
oh. . . and I think we have a name. the winner right now is Kennedy Burton. please keep in mind the Burton is a family name and must be carried on. but we both love Kennedy. I have every confidence that it will change and the runner-up is still Gabrielle Burton but it's been fun to call her by a name instead of "the baby."
and I love Lucas babylust. great name choice.
great belly shot connorsmommy. and yes, you do look bigger this time!
we have our breastfeeding class tonight. I feel like it's a little early but since I am so clueless and I might want to take it twice, I figure better start early. has anyone else started classes yet?
Hello All :D
Dan's Girl You are glowing in that full shot!! Beautiful, simply beautiful :D
connorsmommy Cute belly shot. You're like me, bigger the second time around but the same.
Congrats to all making nursery progress.
Confession: I eat lunch meat at least once a week. I have completely stopped taking my prenatals, every kind I tried made me sick. (I have enough fat stored for three kids to grow :D ) I started drinking iced tea again. I don't drink as much water as I should. I so don't exercise. I've done raw sushi (dr said it was ok) and raw clams. I'm sure there are others but I can't remember them right now.
water breaking: They had to break it with Niko and it really hasn't crossed my mind for this one. However, I think I'd be sorta mortified if it broke in public, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want it to break in my house cause then poor Brian would have to clean it up :/ He'd probably leave it until I come home.
freak out: How am I going to handle two? Niko is sorta independent but how am I going to get up every 3 hours at night and then function during the day when he's awake? I'm really hoping my family will visit the first weeks to help but I can't really rely on them.
My other freak out is what if I go earlier than my induction date. Who will be here to take care of Niko? So many of the moms of Niko's play group have volunteered for that call (even if it's at 3 in the morning) but they have their own kids and I wouldn't want to burden them.
3rd Tri Thread Whenever is fine with me. I'm only 1.3 days from then, I can't believe it :eek: It seems like yesterday that BFP just came in.
So Brian is doing the bathroom this weekend :-D That means I get to go to IKEA for the stuff. My sister might actually come up from VA for the day to go to IKEA with me. I LOVE THAT STORE. I'm a little worried about the bathroom redo, it's our only bathroom and I CAN NOT BE WITHOUT a toilet. Unlike my husband, I can't go in a bottle :p My neighbor gave me a key to her house to use hers, but do I want to go over there for my middle of the night trips :o
Next weekend we're on to the basement, finally. The contractor is coming over today to measure for the windows. Once those go in we're good to go.
Hope everyone else is having a good day.
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. We went to Vermont on Friday afternoon to visit friends and got back last night. It was a relaxing few days of doing next to nothing. I was definitely aware of my pregnancy all weekend between all the belly rubs and lack of drinking (on my part).
Registry: We don't have much on our registry yet. I'm waiting for a list from my brother of all the things we are inheriting from him and my SIL. They had their third child last summer and are ready to unload their baby gear. Once I get that list, I'll know what I need to add to the registry. Oh. My Mom bought us our Peg Perego Aria this weekend. Our first big baby gift! Very exciting!
Confession time: I had a half a glass of wine twice this weekend. It was sooooo good.
Dreams: I've had some crazy ones--our baby boy crawled up the curtains, our baby girl leg wrestled my friend's son, DH swam with chickens in a lake during my high school reunion. :eek:
thanks for the reminder! I'll be giving the health region a call today.
I plan on registering for a "refresher" package that includes the following classes:
- What's New for Baby #2
- Helping your Child Adjust to a New Baby
- Big Brother, Big Sister (this 2-hour class is for Connor!)
- All About Babies
- Hospital Orientation
LOL, i just remembered we never did our Hospital Orientation "class" last time -- it was scheduled for a week after Connor ended up being born! :)
Connorsmommy ~ Great photo...you have the cutest and roundest belly...so nice!
Babylust ~ I love the name Lucas...I'm trying to get it added to our short list of 'Just in case he doesn't look like a...' list, but I don't know if DH is going for it. He's really stuck on the one name we like and isn't too interested in contigencies.
Shoulda ~ I love the name Kennedy too...it was on my short (long) list for girl names, but DH vetoed it. Thankfully, we found out we are having a boy and don't have to worry about Girls names, as we couldn't even come close on a girls name.
Registry ~ We currently have exactly 34 items on our registry. I keep getting in trouble from my mother and MIL, as I've bought alot of stuff that should be on the registry. I just hate the thought of 'asking' people to buy us stuff. And I guess I kind of think 'What if I don't have a shower' or 'What if we don't get this item...which we really need for baby.' I've been picking up alot of things here and there, so we don't have a huge expense all at once.
But, I have not bought any clothes (other than onesies and two 'second hand' outfits') for our baby. So I figure if people do come to a shower, they can always buy clothes.
Classes ~ We are registered for our prenatal classes. They start March 7th and run for 6 weeks. We will finish earlier than their recommended '30 days before delivery' but I felt more comfortable getting them done sooner rather than later.
I MUST look into B/F classes though. Haven't really given much thought to those yet, which is funny considering the B/F issues are on my mind all the time.
Jay&Erin ~ Thanks for the reminder about nipple stimulation. To be honest, I don't even have to squeeze my nipples anymore. Just applying some pressure to my actually breast will force the colostrum out. It's very exciting, but you are right, I guess I should stop playing with my BB's from now on.
Not much else going on with us...thankfully. Dh still hasn't felt the baby move. Everytime I go to put his hand there, the little bugger stops kicking. DH just sighs and pouts...but what can I do. I think he's getting a little frustrated.
3rd trimester thread-Whenever works for me.
Confessions- Now that girl scout cookies are back my diet will be going to crap. I eat a ton of chocolate as it is. I still drink coffee-not a lot but more than I should. It's been about about two weeks since I have done any real exercise besides power shopping. Oh, and I had an italian bmt from Subway 2x last week along with a turkey sandwich later in the week.
Freaking Out- I'm not scared of parenting. In fact the more I'm around kids and other parents the more excited I get about parenting. I'm more scared of putting my career on hold. I have a couple of different options and back up plans. I guess I just hate not knowing how to plan my next 5 years... Should I go back to work, go to school, part-time/full-time? Also DH doesn't always get off at a set time so it's hard to plan around his scedule.
We also went shopping afterwards around the mall and found an Eddie Bauer travel system on sale for only $100!! I love it. It's all a neutral brown and black plaid pattern with dark red lining and it is all really easy to use.
Water breaking- I am hoping that I will go into labor at work. I work literally blocks away from the hospital and we have all the biohazard stuff and everything to clean up the mess here. Also, my work station is on tile, which helps with cleanup. I think no matter where it happens, it will be embarassing. If it doesn't happen here at work, I hope it happens at my parents house. I just know that if it happens at our house, it wont get cleaned up until we get back since that will be the last thing on our mind while we are trying to deliver a baby.
Due Dates- My LMP says it is June 28th but my u/s says it is the 21st. My doc said that since the dates were so close and the due date is more like a window he is keeping it at the 28th. I choose the 21st because it is sooner and it runs in both sides of our families to come early.
I'm really psyched. The local consignment shop had a 1/2 off everything sale this weekend so I bought a couple of maternity outfits, and a couple of baby shirts, and some work clothes for DH. I love it my tops were like $1.50 a piece, pants were only $2-3 and baby tops were only 50 cents each. This place is a lot cleanier and pickier than most of the shops around here.
Lil Mrs --
I have been having subway at least 3x/week for the past 3 months (oops!). Always the same - Turkey and cheese on honey oat. Mmmmm.... Though, yesterday I had something different. And totally healthier (lol) -- A medium New York Fries drenched in ketchup and vinegar. Double Mmmmmmm....
Mrs. Brownie --
not sure if you're on the mailing list for babyzone in your area, but a friend of mine forwarded a Gap Maternity coupon that she received from her babyzone mailing list. If you don't have that coupon but would like it, let me know and I'll forward it to you!
I know *I* am going to use that coupon -- I need a new pair of mat. jeans and when I was out shopping this weekend for a pair (Gap, ON, Thyme), I found that I only really liked the fit/feel of some of the Gap jeans... but only the pairs that were full price (~$88) so now I can justify buying one of those pairs.
Hi Everyone. I am so behind in this thread - I have been travelling and busy at work recently. I then put off posting because I was trying to catch up, but I've given up on that, it moves too fast!
NikosMommmy, we're remodeling our bathroom as well and I told DH that whatever he does, his primary goal has to be to minimize the time we are without a toilet! Luckily we do have a second bathroom but it is downstairs and with all my pelvic/pubic pain it is really difficult to go downstairs in the middle of the night.
Things are going along the same for me. The baby is moving a ton and he's even startled me with his kicks a few times! My DD was very squirmy as well but she was much gentler. We still haven't done anything yet to get ready for him, but since we already have the furniture and gender-neutral newborn clothes, there's not a ton to do. The one thing I do want to get is a Bumbo chair, but he won't be able to use it until he is at least 2-3 months old so there's no rush there. I've bought some boy clothes, but I don't want to get too much in case he does not follow the sizes for his age. My SIL had a DD that was always right on like my DD, but then she had a boy who was off the charts and wearing 12 month clothes at 4 months.
belly pics great bellies ladies!
name choices i really like Lucas and Kennedy - such great choices Babylust & shoulda
Freaking out not yet...but i'm sure it will come
Dreams nothing weird or wacky but i have dreamt baby is a girl though everyone is saying boy and i guess it will end up being a boy since we dont have a boy name :rolleyes:
Classes we signed up for a 5 wk course and it covers everything (lamaze, breastfeeding etc) its 2.5hrs every tuesday and we're starting in march cos they only offer them every other month and we cant do them in May cos of Dh's exams.
Confessions nothing bad but i eat sandwich meat, though its the kind sliced in the deli since thats all we buy. i dont drinks sodas or coffee or anything like that so i didnt have problems with those things.
Orange -- RE: bumbo seats…
I'm looking for one of those too, and it's been really frustrating. I know they're expensive, so I'm looking at going the used route. But so far, no luck. Do you think I'm being unreasonable to expect to pay LESS than $40 CAD ($32 USD). I'm more than willing to pay $30 ($24 USD) for a used one in fair-good condition. However, I can't find anyone willing to let theirs go for anywhere near that. Last week, I put an ad up at a local buy/sell/trade internet group that I belong to. I mentioned I am looking for a used bumbo seat and would be willing to pay a fair price for a used seat that is in decent condition. I had one person say they'd sell their used one to me for $45. And then another say $40. Now, I understand that these retail for $59.99 in stores around here. However, I have a 20% off coupon for one of the stores that carry this seat. Doing the math, that would mean a brand new seat could cost me $51. And these people want me to spend ALMOST as much -- not even factoring in the gas it would cost me to travel to the far side of the city -- a 45 min. drive each way. Anyway, I mentioned I was willing to pay $30-35 for a used seat, yet both people refused to budge on their price. So I thanked them both and ended the negotiation with "if you do decide in the near future that my price is acceptable, please contact me." I've also checked out eBay but by the time you figure in shipping to Canada for a new OR used seat at the prices they're going for, I’m better off buying a brand new one with that coupon. There IS one eBayer who lives in a town just 30 min. from here selling brand new ones. Her BIN price is not worth it (given the coupon I have for one store), but if I could snag one of her auctions at a lower price, it would be worth the little drive. ARGH….Frustration, thy name is Bumbo!
QOTD -- RE: body parts:
I've felt some body parts in the past few weeks, but I'm unsure of what I'm feeling just yet. When I was pg w/Connor, I knew exactly how he was positioned, and his legs were in prime position to kick out my left side. Many afternoons around 6-7 mos pg, we played a little game - he'd tentatively stick a foot out my side (you could see it through my clothes!). I'd press on it and he'd get all freaked out and pull it back in to safety. Then, about a minute later, he'd tentatively stick the foot out again. We'd play that little game for hours and hours :)
I also like Lucas.
Classes – Our Bradley class starts March 5. I’m in the process of registering for breastfeeding and baby care classes. Last night I went to a La Leche League meeting. It wasn’t bad. I plan to go to next months meeting as well.
Shoulda – congrats on DH feeling the baby. I think either Kennedy or Gabrielle will be wonderful choices. Gabrielle is on our list of girl names.
Hospital bag – I did a practice pack of the baby’s bag so I know what I need to repack once it is all washed. My bag on the other hand is another story. I do have a list of everything I intend to pack. I need to start shopping for the things I don’t have yet…like thick dark socks.
Hospital tour – we are going March 11
Baby Stuff – I bought some side snap tees, a hamper and 2 onesies from BRU yesterday.
Mrs. Brownie – After my mom saw what I had bought so far, she asked me if I had anything left to put on a registry. Once she looks at the registry she will see that I really haven’t bought that much stuff. If you look at the baby’s room you would think we are all set. The baby has a crib, diapers and some clothes. Other than the car seat it would appear that w are all set, but I know we need much more.
Connorsmommy – sorry I can’t see the pic, but I’m sure you look great. I so want Subway…don’t tempt me.
Orange – I ordered the lime Bumbo chair. It is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am feeling the same thoughts about clothes and the baby’s actually measurements. A friend just had a 8lb4oz baby over the weekend and another had a 8lb 5oz baby last year. I was a 7.5 lb baby and hope our little one falls somewhere around there. I know the avg size is increasing. I just hope I don’t get a 10 pounder cause he may not fit.
Dream – I had a dream that I went to the bathroom and peed. I woke up scared that I had peed my pants…luckily I hadn’t although I really had to go so I was surprised that I didn’t.
Feeling baby parts – nope. I can sometimes tell which side he is on cause it is harder, but I can’t distinguish anything.
shoulda ~ Kennedy is one of our favorite girl names too, but we know (distantly) a couple with kids named Kaiden and Kennedy so that's out for us.
Amanda ~ I think Lucas is perfect! Congrats on deciding.
connorsmommy ~ Great belly pic! You do look about the same - just a little bigger.
I had my appointment this morning. I had my first weight gain of the pregnancy - 2.5 pounds. My BP was good - 124/76 and her h/b was in the 140s. Next appointment is March 22 for my GTT and RhoGAM shot.
Bumbo seat – anything that is really popular is hard to find at a bargain. The two sellers know that they will find someone who will pay $40/45 CAD. Good luck on your hunt.
I'm starting to lean towards buying the brand new bumbo with the coupon...and then reselling next year for the $40 that "everyone" seems to think they can get for it. Just irks me to not be able to find a deal on something USED that baby will only use for a few months -- I'm all about buying used baby gear in good/safe condition. I could keep on looking for a bumbo - won't be needing it for months -- but it's one more thing on my baby "to do" list that I am itching to see some progress on.
connorsmommy, I've been searching eBay for a Bumbo as well and I've just decided to buy it new, since once you factor in shipping even the used ones are going for the price I could get it for at Target ($40 US).
Bumbo Seat ~ I had decided I didn't want a bumbo seat, as we have two rockers/vibrators and now a swing coming...why is everyone so eager to have them? I saw a baby at just under 2 months using one on another board and thought he looked so awkward...he couldn't even hold his head up, yet they were putting him the bumbo already.
Must think about that a little more...still not convinced I need or want one.
Buying Stuff ~ DS, I know what you mean about thinking you have everything. I'm sure some things will crop up, but it makes me feel better knowing I don't have to rely on someone else for the stuff we need.
I just need to get some baskets to organize everything, but so far I haven't seen anything I''m in love with yet. So the hunt will continue.
I kind of wish we had a Pottery Barn up here, although I know I would spend way too much money there, they have everything I'm looking for.
Haven't even thought about packing the baby bag yet, but know that I have everything I need for it, once I can find it all.
And MIL informed us that she bought us the cutest outfit she's EVER SEEN the other night. She thinks we should use it as a coming home outfit. Supposedly she has bought hundreds of dollars worth of clothes for us, but we haven't seen anything yet. My mother buys us lot's of little things, but every time I see her she gives us something new. MIL is just holding on to it for whatever reason.
Body Parts ~ I can't even think about distinguishing body parts yet. I've just gotten to the point where I can feel the baby everyday, not worrying about other things yet. And I know my baby is in a breech position, as his kicks are always low or right on my bladder. Due to the anterior placenta, I've been told that if he does flip, I won't be able to feel him...so I'm kind of hoping he doesn't do it too soon...cause I do enjoy knowing he's there.
Waddle ~ So I was told today that I have a little bit of a 'waddle' going on...don't know if it was a compliment or what. I didn't think I was waddling yet. Having problems bending down and picking things up off the floor (talk about awkward looking) but waddling...and so it begins!
Oh Boy...this thread is moving quick!
Izzy and Ryan – thank you for your comps on my cards
Ryan, Baby Lust, Dan’s girl, Connorsmommy - all of you are truly glowing. Cute belly shots!
Registry – we have about 40 things on our registry right now. I'm not expecting a lot since this is our 2nd shower, but I do want to add diapers and wipes to the list.
Confession time – I have been really bad about taking my PNV's. They make me sick whenever I take them. I've also had sushi (cooked) maybe once or twice, which is pretty good for me b/c I LOOOVE sushi. Before getting PG, I was also an avid Starbucks addict. I've only had SB maybe 5 times since getting pg - not so bad, I guess.
Names – Baby Lust – I love that name! I'm 99.9 % sure we are going to name our son, LUCAS. , too. I really wanted baby#2's name to start with an "L" since my name starts with an "L". Our DS's name is Jaden, which starts with a J, after my DH. We still haven't decided on a middle name yet though. My DH really likes Reilly, but I'm on the fence.
Sunshine – great deal on the glider! I don't think I've ever seen one that cheap before. Smokin' deal!
Those looking for Robeez: There are some great knockoffs on sale on E-bay. My friend buys these for her DD all the time and they are a lot cheaper. Something to consider since the kiddies grow out of them so quickly.
Mrs. Brownie, the Bumbo is great for a few reasons: they can totally sit up in it and look around which is nice after only laying down for so long. My DD was unhappy all the time until she could start sitting up and I think this would have been great for her. It's also portable and takes up less space than a bouncer or swing. Finally, it actually helps them strengthen their back and neck muscles so they can sit independently sooner. That said, I've never even seen one in person let alone used it, but it just seems like a great idea to me. I would have been so happy if I could have put my DD down and had her be happy once in a while in those early days, but she just hated lying on her back, she wanted to be upright and looking at people. You're right though, that they shouldn't be in there until they can hold their head up well.
waddle I've got it, and I've had it for a while. My hips are so loose that even though my belly is not that big, I'm waddling. It's very cute, I'm sure. :rolleyes:
I forgot to ask:
Has anyone experience leg cramps in the middle of the night yet?
OMG, I had the most excruciating cramp in the calf the other night. At around 3am I woke up screaming b/c my leg hurt so bad. It kept tightening up, then relaxing, then tightening, then relaxing...I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn't come out. It HURT SOOO BAD! :eek:
So I go to read my PG book and it says that leg cramps are normal at around 6 months (which I just hit last Thursday). It's normally due to lack of calcium intake.
It says to flex your toes toward you to stretch out the calf. Anyone else have any tips to alleviate the pain when it happens?
Bumbo seat – They are supposed to offer good support. I ordered mine from Baby Universe. Your child is supposed to be able to hold up his/her head before using the bumbo.
Connorsmommy – you do have some time. You may find one at the price you want.
Organization baskets – I have some baskets that I bought for the bathroom some time ago that fit perfectly on they hutch over the dresser. Over the weekend, I found some pop up baskets on clearance at target that I’m using as drawer organizers. They are working well. I had bought the red lined basket in the Vintage Fire Truck collection. I like it, but it didn’t work in the room. I ended up returning it. Closet organization is another story. We need to first empty the closet before thinking of organization.
Waddle – not yet. I did tell a friend to please tell me as soon as she notices a waddle. I do not want the waddle. Bending over and down is tough. I find that I have to spread my legs so that I give the belly a place to go.
Leg cramps – I got my first one this weekend. Before that I was getting toe cramps. What helped me was getting up and walking. The problem was..my parents were visiting and sleeping in our bed and we were on the futon which is practically on the floor. I had the hardest time getting up and I had to really pee. If I bent my leg it would cramp up again. I finally did get up without waking DH. I take in more than enough calcium a day, so I don’t know what caused it for me. I’ve also been eating bananas…and I heard that the potassium helps.
I have not had any leg cramps yet ... but I've heard that if you take some potassium it helps. I dont know if that is safe to take while being preg. - maybe eating some bananas since they have potassium would help ?!?!?!
Sunshine~I saw that sale ad yesterday and was wondering the quality of that glider, if you get to a store to test it out let me know ok? Thanks!
Leg cramps I've had them several nights in the past 2 weeks, they wake me up crying they hurt so bad. I stretch the leg but havent actually gotten up with one for fear i would fall down. :rolleyes: DH said I should start eating bananas at least once per day, dr said that too.
Confessions I havent taken my vitamin since 14 weeks,they make me sick and baby is fine so why should I be more sick?
I eat lunch meat on a daily basis, always cold too. DH and I LOVE subway! I havent excercised since getting my BFP, I drink several diet sodas everyday and the worst confession is that we have not saved ANY MONEY for my maternity leave yet. We are paying for his grad school on our own until April, so we can start saving only then.
WaddleI didnt realize I had one until yesterday when my work badge was swinging back and forth across my belly on its chain. :rolleyes:
Registry We have about 165 things on there, about 25 things are clothes or onesies or booties. So about 140-145 actual things, but some things like crib blankets we have listed quantaties of. No one has bought anything yet, but with my shower on April 2nd i'm sure they will start soon.
Body partsI cant tell what they are, but when my mom is over and he is moving she swears she can tell if its his head or butt, hand or foot. I guess she would know since she had 3 kids of her own, but I cant tell yet.
Great belly shots to everyone!!
