Leg cramps ~ I have restless leg syndrome in the evenings and when I go to bed, but don't have cramps. I do take a calcium pill every day but I don't know if that helps or not.

Tips for alleviating the pain ~ Pinch the area between your thumb and pointer finger. There's a pressure point there and if you pinch it the cramp will go away and the pain is almost instantly gone.

Leg Cramps: unfortunately, I have alot of information on these:rolleyes: ... I have ALWAYS gotten leg/toe cramps... no matter what I am doing. They say Potassium is the key... but I found a good way to get rid of them (that works for me)... If when I am sleeping I get one I get out of bed (well I leap out of bed like I am on fire) and I put all my weight/pressure on that foot or toe. At one point, a few years back, I would get them EVERY day after the gym and I found walking on a cold floor or putting pressure on my foot on a cold floor helped. My mother is prone to them as well.. so she gave me her quick fixes.

I hope you get some relief.. because they can be such a pain.

Leg Cramps ~ I haven't had leg cramps either *knock wood* but have heard that calcium helps. I have a supplement (a powder) that I should be taking, but haven't on a regular basis. I guess it's time to start.

Connormommy ~ Meant to say thanks for thinking of me with the coupon. Fortunately for me, my mom has actually made me quite a few pieces of clothing (6 Tops and 3 Pants) and with what I already had, I think I can manage until the end of my pregnancy. I don't think I will be buying anything else maternity related for myself (if I can help it) other than a new bra, as this one is just about done.

Besides, by not spending any money on clothes, it means I can spend more on the baby.

Dan's Girl ~ Right there with you on not having saved any money. We keep saying we are going to do it, but haven't started yet. Luckily, I get a fairly good maternity pay plan while off for a year and some supplementation from my company. It's going to be tight for us for awhile, but I figure with not buying lunch and spending astronomical amounts on gas for my commute, plus not eating out every night and DH quitting smoking, we should probably be a little ahead each month...I hope so at least.

All this sub talk is making me want to head to Subway for dinner tonight. DH is out of town so I can do whatever I want. Usually when I crave a sandwich, I head to Panera Bread and get the Sierra Turkey and Greek Salad. Oh my gosh it is wonderful. I may be heading there tonight if I can make it past Subway.

DH loves bananas, so I have them regularly.

I am so bad at catching up with all of the topics and SO. But here's what I can contribute to the discussion...

I started having leg cramps in my calf several weeks ago. There's some useful info in this thread.
Leg Cramps thread (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=7618)
The only thing that is working for me is to quickly flex my foot (instead of pointing my toes). I have become very good at noticing when they are about to happen that I can prevent them. It usually occurs while I'm sleeping and I try to stretch my whole body by pointing my toes (never realized I did that in my sleep). So far no more problems. I've also noticed that when I work out, all exercises that require me to work my calf with a pointed toes make my muscle very stiff and almost crampy. So I go easy on those (ex stationary lunges).

Other than that, my entire back, sides, core become very achy during the day. I am already very uncomfortable and I have no idea how I can last another 3.5 months. I am starting to think of creative seating arrangements, though I have not made any changes. I try to get up from my desk for periodic walks. Anyone else feel so achy? I never thought that a mere 10 lbs could have so much effect.

QOTD I feel the baby move a lot, but I have no clue what's what. It seems like everyonce in a while the baby does a whole body stretch, like I feel her back or something. The other "kicks" I have no idea what body part they are from.

Registry Wow I thought our list was huge. We only have 34 items. :confused: I did make two lists, BRU and Target, though the one at Target is much smaller.

Confessions I color my hair every month (my doc said it was ok, so I guess that's not much of a confession). I have had sushi several times (the cooked rolls only but sometimes I forget to tell them to remove the tobiko). I do some exercises, mostly stretches while lying on my back. I sometimes sleep on my back for short periods of time when that's the only way I can get comfortable. I tried a hot tub once but it was too hot for me to even get in... I did sit in the sauna for a little bit. I made sure to get out as soon as I felt heat in my face.

Body Parts ~ I can't even think about distinguishing body parts yet. I've just gotten to the point where I can feel the baby everyday, not worrying about other things yet. And I know my baby is in a breech position, as his kicks are always low or right on my bladder. Due to the anterior placenta, I've been told that if he does flip, I won't be able to feel him...so I'm kind of hoping he doesn't do it too soon...cause I do enjoy knowing he's there.

Oh really Mrs. Brownie? Bummer. I just found out I have an anterior placenta last week. I'm totally not going to do any Optimal Foetal Positioning techniques until I have to then. I enjoy feeling the babe move around each day...even if it does kick my cervix and bladder.

Question How many of us are there with anterior placentas? I didn't realise that I had one because I've been feeling this babe move off and on since week15 and that's really unusual for an anterior placenta. But it makes sense because all movements I do feel is down low never up high at all.

Movement-No way can I tell body parts. I still rarely feel it kick out so hard that my stomach moves a ton enough to press on it and feel what it was.

Leg Cramps-Just started last night but so far not too strong thankfully. I'm going to up my calcium intake and stretch my legs before bed and hopefully this is as bad as it gets.

raising my hand to join the anterior placenta crowd. I definitely can't tell what part of the body is kicking me but I am happy just to be able to feel her kick at all. I'll take what I can get for a little peace of mind!

thanks for the compliments on the name everyone. I hope Kennedy sticks!

no leg cramps here yet but I am a scuba diver and they always tell you to flex your foot to get rid of it quickly. so nothing new there but it does seem to work for me.

hope everyone has a great night!

Good day everyone!

Leg cramps - I've gotten a couple of them, and they were painful as a mofo. I just tried to relax and breathe through them as I flexed my foot, all the while thinking "Hmmm...I guess this is good practice for pain tolerance, eh?". In addition to standing on the foot, especially on a cold surface, I've also read that wearing long socks that cover your calves to bed can help.

Movement - Sometimes it feels like I'm on the receiving end of a High Five, other times it feels like a knee pushing against my hand. But I'm sure I'm totally off.

Anterior Placentas - Um, I'm a bit confused. Is that the same thing as a Low-lying Placenta? I ask because my doc told me I have a low-lying placenta, and I feel the baby in all the same places described for an anterior placenta. Did someone mention there are techiques to help with this?

FWIW- that is a powerful acupressure point but it can also induce labor so I wouldn't use it too much!

Anterior Placenta ~ As stated before, I have an anterior placenta and I'm relieved to know that it's alot more common than I originally thought.

From what I've read and been told, feeling movements depends on the placement of the placenta. From what I understand from my U/S, my anterior placenta is actually placed pretty high up. So when the baby is in a head up position (breech) and kicks down low, I'm able to feel it because he's kicking under where the placenta is located.

If he swings around (feet up) then I won't feel the kicks, but understand that there's a possibility I could feel it out on the sides (or under the ribs) but won't feel a full on kick.

The placenta is acting like a sponge, absorbing the feel of the kicks...which is why it's taken longer to feel (for me anyways.)

And from what I understand and have read, there are the possibility of a couple of complications during labour. The first is that a baby usually faces the placenta, therefore there's an increased chance the baby will be born face up...which sometimes leads to back labour.

Also, if for some reason a C-section is necessary, the doctors have to be careful to not cut the placenta...they either have to cut under or above. Which could also mean another ultrasound later in the PG, just to check the placement.

Not that I'm an expert...but it concerned me in the beginning, so I did a little research and looked at a couple other message boards. Like I said, not as uncommon as I thought, but it's comforting to know that others have the same thing I do and that we are all feeling the baby (was so worried I wouldn't feel him at all that it's comforting to know that I finally am able to feel him.)

MrsBrownie

Gina ~ From what I'm understand (and could be mistaken) low-lying placenta is a little bit different. A low-lying placenta means that it's growing lower in the uterus and that in some cases can lead to Placenta-previa. Placenta previa is where the placenta covers the opening in the uterus (or cervix...can't remember which it is.)

Again, I'm no expert, but my suggestion is to do a google search (which is what I did for Anterior Placenta) to find out more information.

HTH!

Registering- We are registered for a ton. I am having an early work shower... Next month actually. After that I will reduce my list but with 100+ people working here I wasn't sure how much to register for, especially since we aren't sharing the sex (Other wise I would have a 100+ little outfits). I am also telling the girls that are throwing it that people should feel free to buy diapers, and books that we are not registered for.

Movement- I have no clue what is what yet. I just call them all kicks. At first I only felt movement in my right lower abdomen but now I feel them all over the place! Today the baby is aiming for my sternum! I keep telling it that it can kick all it wants down low put the upper cuts hurt. No luck training baby to listen quite yet.

Bumpo Seats- I'll have to look more into them. I still need to actually register down at BRU in person. There are a lot of cute things that I see in the stores that I can't find online.

FYI- Robeez shoes... (well knockoffs) If you look on the favorite Ebay thread in pregnancy there is a link to Robeez knock offs. There are a couple of girls in that thread that have had good luck with the shoes and delivery.

Movements-He kicks a lot and you can see/feel him from the outside. Can't tell parts yet.

Registry-Between BRU and Target combined, we registered for probably 80 items or so. I am having a fairly large shower and it's my first baby.

Leg Cramps-Not yet. I'm dreading them. I get them every now and then even when not preg. They have never woken me up tho.

QOTD-Does anyone else have a problems with their ribs hurting yet? If I eat a lot my ribs hurt so bad. Nothing but going to sleep alleviates it.

Getting dressed and bending over and stuff is definately getting harder now. I'll be 23 weeks on Wed. so I am scared about how much worse it's going to get if I'm already having problems :rolleyes: .

Lucas-I adore this name. Dh vetoed it!

Thanks everyone for your tips about the leg cramps. DH told me to eat bananas for potassium, too - but ofcourse I didn't listen. :rolleyes:

Movement- the baby is kicking A LOT this afternoon. (just ate lunch) I can't tell yet if it's a foot or an elbow.

Freaking out/Nervous about Labor - The other night I had a dream about having the baby early and he looked exactly like my DS except with a lot more hair! LOL! It kinda freaked me out though. Even though this is baby #2 for me, I'm still nervous. I don't do well with pain and won't hesitate to ask for the epidural. ;)

2nd timers: Did you or have you told your DC yet about baby #2? How did they take it? Just curious what other ppl are doing.
Our DS is only 2 yrs and 4 months - not sure if he really grasp the concept that I have a baby inside me, but our friend gave us a really cute book to read to him that's called: "I'm a Big Brother Now." He likes to point to the pictures and says: "Baby!" What's really cute is when I say: "Give baby a kiss" and he'll kiss my belly. :)

OMG...YES! This happens to me, too. My ribs hurt really bad after I've had a big meal. I don't know how else to alleviate the pain except, not to eat so much. Ummm...yea, right! Like that's gonna happen for me ;)

I had my OB appointment today, and was dismayed to find out I had gained 9 lbs! I do think 1 or 2 was because I was wearing my tennis shoes instead of the slip ons I usually wear, and had had a decaf Starbucks literally right before- for once no waiting!! But Cripes!!! I know we have been bad this month, we've been so busy and eaten out more than usual and just eating more poorly than usual. That makes me up 16 lbs!! I wasn't exactly a skinnie minnie to start either:-) Anyone else freaking out about their weight gain?? If!! If gain 1 lb a week for the rest of the time, I would have a 33 lb weight gain. Definitely time to go back to eating healthier and exercising!

I do have to go back in 2 weeks and have the another ultrasound of the heart taken, as they couldn't get a clear view of all 4 chambers.

Speaking of hospital bags, which I noticed a couple people were talking about; what do you need to bring? Is there a list somewhere?

i have an anterior placenta which they assured me is NOT a bad thing :)
i just felt the baby a little later than most....i felt a lot of tickling from 16wks but then at about 20 wks it started getting stronger. i actually feel the baby mostly on my right side and then lower down too. i do feel a whole of movement around my belly button area. when i had my last ultrasound, the feet were on my left and the head was down. but i have a feeling that has changed.

leg cramps I've been having them really badly for awhile now at night. Someone told me to flex my foot up towards my body and not to point my toes. Since I've heard that, when I feel one starting I flex my foot right away and that stops the cramp in its tracks. I also read that you should flex your foot and rotate your ankles before going to sleep and that can help stop them.

bumbo seat Those used prices seem way too high. When I put one on my registry this past weekend, the price at BRU was $40.

movement I haven't been able to tell what's hitting me. I also don't feel the baby all that much. Maybe 2-3 times a day. I worry that he isn't moving enough.

waddling Definitely at night when my feet hurt! Bending over, getting up and down, and putting on socks and shoes have also become a challenge.

We've been telling Connor for a few months now.... he seems to get it, but he won't fully understand it until Dawson is actually here. It helps that his "girlfriend" M at his dayhome just got a baby brother last month -- we've seen pictures of M and her little brother and tell him that he's going to have a little brother like M's. We've been telling him that the baby won't be much fun at first b/c he'll just cry and eat and sleep. Connor is fascinated that Dawson will sleep in a crib and that we'll have a special radio to listen to him while he sleeps.

We've started trying to get Connor to talk to my belly and kiss his baby brother good night. :)

We'll be sending him to a "big brother" class put on by our health region this spring. It's a 2 hour class aimed at teaching preschoolers about the new baby and how important their "job" is in helping mommy and daddy and the new baby. :)

I do mention every now and then that there is a baby in my belly, his baby sister. That book sounds really cute. Who is the author?

Movement I can't tell what part of the body is kicking me. But I do feel our little girl often.

I am so upset, I have been catching up with this thread all day, I was about 15 or so pages behind. I had been writing my comments and answers to qotd's and lost it all! I am sorry!

Things have been going good here. Feeling our baby move alot and eating alot too!:)

I am starting to panic a bit since we haven't cleaned out the room that is going to be the nursery. And I need to figure out some stuff for my shower. I also haven't picked out the bedding yet either.

Jbenny – the BRU near your has Bumbo seats? Lucky you. I ended up buying one online ($36.99 USD) because I couldn’t find on in an actual brick and mortar (B&M) store. I most likely would have registered for it.

Jcharley – I had to go back as well for a heart u/s. I was last firday and all was well. The baby was sleeping and made it easy.

Hospital bag lists – there are varying ones out there. I started one based on my own thought and have added and subtracted based on stuff I’ve read and recommendations. The baby’s bag doesn’t need much. Your bag will have the most stuff. Here is my list from LJ. Your list will vary depending on breast or formula feeding and cloth or disposable diapers. RO’s can speak from experience. Any thoughts?

Stuff for the Hospital Bag

For Me: will fit in Lands’ End Do-It-All (minus pillows, Boppy and snacks)
lip balm
nursing bra - 2
nursing tank - 2
breast pads - 4 pr
robe
slippers
socks (dark) - 6 pr
scarf
hair clip
shampoo & conditioner
comb

underwear - for going home
shower gel and exfoliating gloves
clothes to wear home
snacks - fruit, crackers
bottled water

We never quite made it to the 'pack the hospital bag' stage -- I'd had it on my to-do list to pack it the weekend he ended up being born. So when I was admitted at 4 a.m., we had some time to kill. We made a packing list on the fly and had MIL go to our house and throw the stuff together. I didn't have *everything* but enough to get me through the next couple of days (and, DH did go home that afternoon and came back a couple times/day for those two days, so if I needed something I could get it.

In my hastily thrown together hospital bag, I had:

- cosmetic kit w/my travel essentials (this is always packed for trips anyway, it basically has everything I use in travel size - from hair stuff to make up, etc.).
- Socks (never thought about "dark" socks at the time, but after getting tonz of blood all over the pair I'd been wearing through delivery - and subsequently just throwing them out! - I think dark socks are a fabulous idea! :)
- lip balm
- hand lotion
- slippers
- night gown
- hair ties/clips
- digital camera & freshly charged batteries
- wallet
- address book & cel phone (to make phone calls from the privacy of my own room...though looking back, I think cel phones were actually banned from rooms! oops!)
- pen & paper

(didn't pack any connor outfits -- he didn't break out of the hospital until much later so stuff for him wasn't needed.

This time, my bag will contain all of the above plus
- going home outfit
- hat and blankie
- tupperware hollow rolling pin (fill with warm/hot water to make a great labour back massage tool)
- snacks (granola bars, etc. plus water, juice boxes, etc.)
- Change of clothes for me. Or at least underwear; I'm sure I will jsut do like last time -- wear the same clothes home two days later.
- extra fleece blanket (I was always chilled)
- MAYBE my BFing pillow -- would get DH to bring it if I can't get my hands on a hospital one. THey had them in the NICU but I'm not sure about the regular maternity ward.
- nursing tank tops
- pads for back-up (I LOVED the "ice pads" they supplied in the hospital. Those were the best after giving birth!) :)
- sudoku book (keep me occupied while in labour!)
- portable DVD player (while in labour).

*cough**plug**cough* that would be a lip luscious lip balm from http://www.lipbalmsource.com, right? *cough**plug**cough* (lol, I'll shut up now!)

Hey ladies!

Well these hospital bag essentials are very good to know.. must remember to come back to this part of the thread...

Dr. update: we had our appt last night and it went well.. I am up an extra 6 lbs from last month so a total of 16.5 lbs for 24 weeks. I am surprised at how hard it has been to keep control of my weight.. I do go to the gym and I do eat A TON healthier then before.. oh well what can you do... just need to watch more what I eat... I suppose... I guess that means no more swedish fish... LOL...

Hair: I have very thick naturally curly hair.. and I used to shed a tremendous amount of hair before getting pregnant. Now I have no hair falling out and I feel like I look like a warewolf.... I usually get my hair foiled every 2.5 to 3 months and this time it has been 1 month and my hair has already grown over and inch... needless to say my roots are god awful. So I am going next week to fix that problem...anyone else having hair issues?

Just wait until about 2-3 months PPD... You'll swear you're going to go bald. And then about 6-7 months PPD, all your hair that fell out a few months earlier will be growing back, giving you spikey growth on top. :D

As for my hair... I've noticed it's getting a little more manageable. It's less frizzy. But maybe that's because I actually got a 'good' haircut in January.

However, my NAILS are the big story here - they are usually awful. THey split, crack and peel all the time. They're very weak and always have been. With my last pg, they grew so nice and healthy and strong. And then they ALL snapped off suddenly at about 4 months PPD. LOL! So anyway, my nails are finally growing in good and strong and healthy again. I'm enjoying them now, knowing they'll be crap again before christmas!

Connorsmommy- Awww..the big brother class sounds like a lot of fun. I’m sure Connor will love it.

Excited – the book is by Joanna Cole. It’s really cute.

http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/10250000/10251208.gif

List – Great hospital lists ladies. I’m definitely adding portable DVD player to my list as well. It’s great to have for that down time. We didn’t have one last time so we were stuck with whatever was showing on TV at the time.

Hair – I’m the complete opposite. My hair is not that thick to begin with. It seems like it hasn’t been growing as much as before. Now that I’m trying to grow it out, it just seems like its taking forever. Before I used to get my haircut/hilights every 3 months. I don’t know if its b/c the baby is taking all my nutrients or what. It was even worse after I had my DS. My hair was falling out left and right..I seriously felt like I was going bald! :eek:

Telling Big Brother ~ DS is only 18 months so he doesn't understand what's going on. He says baby to my belly and sometimes puts his pacifier on my tummy or in my belly button to share, but that's the extent of it.

Hair - I haven't noticed a difference,but I've been told that what isn't falling out now will fall out after the baby is born so don't be shocked and think you are going bald.

Weight - I'm up 20 lbs.. I don’t walk consistently and I don’t eat that poorly, but I don’t see how I’ve gained 20lbs. I was staring in the mirror this morning and could see the changes in my face. I am at the most I’ve ever weighed and although it is not depressing, I wish it would spread out more over the 40 weeks. I hope that once the weather gets better I’ll spend more time outside. Since I live in New England, that will be at least another 6 weeks. On the up side, I’ll be able to spend a lot of time outside once the baby is here. I hope I can loose most of the weight before returning to work. I know the distribution may be different, but if I can get back within 5lbs of prepreg weight I’ll be okay.

Hair ~ Shamocha, I'm having the same problem you are. I normally have thick hair with lot's of body. I've been losing it like crazy (you could make a wig with what I've lost) and DH is constantly picking it off me.

I've also noticed that my nails have gotten worse. I think it's because the baby is taking all the nutrients from me (and my PNV.) I've started a supplement of Minerals (it's a liquid) that I'm not very good about taken...must improve on that.

I have new growth coming in already though, I've got spikes all over my head and right in the corners of my forehead, it's little tiny pieces (like DH beard hair) growing. It looks funny, but what can you do?

Weight ~ At my last appointment at 24 weeks, I was up 11lbs. But funnily enough I keep getting told that I've lost weight. I notice that I've actually slimed down in my face and the double chin I did have is not there anymore. So, I'm happy that others are noticing, but my eating habits are progressively getting worse (chocolate has been added to my diet at least once a day) and I'm sure I will keep gaining if I'm not careful.

I'm excited to lose the weight after baby is here though. I started on the heavy side, but then lost some in the very beginning and only started gaining at my 20th week. We have a pretty nice area and I'll be able to do lot's of walking once the baby is here. That's one of the reasons I'm intent on getting a little bit better stroller (we are hoping to get the Peg Perego Pliko P3) and slim myself down.

Having started off heavy though, I'm happy that I haven't been suffering *knock wood* with all the symptoms people told me I would be. My mom kept discouraging me from getting PG without losing weight as I'd suffer from sore joints, indigestion, heart burn, leg cramps, varicose veins, etc. But the only significant thing I'm suffering from is my allergies, and I think that's because I'm off my regular medicine. Hopefully it continues this way, but I'm doing much better than even I expected.

Symptoms – so far I’m doing well in this area too. My only complaint is lack of sleep. I can’t sleep through the night. DH bought me the Snoogle pillow and even though it is extremely comfortable…I’m not sleeping any better. I can fall asleep with no problem…the problem is staying sleep. Maybe I’m becoming a very light sleeper. My mom was a very light sleeper when I was a child. She would wake up as soon as walked into the room. Now I can yell at her and she won’t budge. I occasionally get sciatic nerve pain, but I can deal with it for now.

My weight goal was 25lbs, but I don’t’ think that is realistic anymore now that I’m already up 20 lbs. I guess I will have to settle for the higher end of the weight gain scale and be happy with 35 lbs. This leaves me 15 lbs over the next 17 weeks. I can do it.. I will need to cut out the excess sugar and fat. I already drink plenty of water. I’ve had 64 oz already today.

connorsmommy i've heard about hair falling out after the baby and thats kinda freaky. oh well - i guess thats one of those hidden 'joys' of motherhood!

weight since everyone is talking about weight, might as well throw mine in too :cool: i'm up 15 pounds which totally freaked me out cos i honestly eat healthy and i exercise regularly. and those numbers are the highest i've ever seen on the scales. i didnt gain anything the first 3mths and now suddenly i have all this extra weight and i definitely feel it. i really wanted just a 25 pound gain :rolleyes: my doc says i'm still on the small side but i find that hard to believe!

ETA: had so share this cos.... last night dh had his head on my belly and was trying to listen to baby's heartbeat (he heard it the night before and we've read that u can do that now so he was testing it out). well last night it was taking longer to find and he kinda pressed his head into my belly and baby kicked his face! we had a good laugh:)

Hair - I haven't noticed any change. I never did with my first pregnancy either and I also never noticed the thinning that most women experience post-partum. My hairdresser even remarked on it!

Weight - As of this morning, I'm up 20 pounds (at 24w 5d). I'm actually happy with that, even though it is on the high end of where I should be. My goal is to stay under 150 pounds which would put me at a total gain of 38 pounds. With my DD, I topped 165 and had a hard time losing it all after she was born. If I can stick to the recommended 1 lb/week, I should be able to do it. The fact that the vending machines were removed from my work has helped a lot in reducing the temptation to snack on junk.

is all this talk of hospital bags making anyone else realize how close we are to all this????? craziness.

symptoms- I have been pretty symptom free, thankfully. a sharp pain in my middle back that just went away drove me crazy for a while. thank goodness for yoga. I am still crampy/achy/twingey often and the crampy ones scare me. the doctor told me to expect a lot of weird feelings in my belly so I am not worrying about it. other than that. . I am falling asleep every early and staying asleep so I am thankful for that too.

hair- mine is dull and lifeless. I used to have a ton of body to it. my stylkist told me to just give up until next year. sigh.

I guess that's all I have for now. just wanted to say hello!

bumbo seats at BRU I guess I'm lucky they actually had some, but they only had about 4 or 5, they were all the same color (aqua), and they were hidden in the back beside the baby gates.

hair and nails My hair has been great. My roots have been growing out pretty fast, but it's been thick and styling really well. I have really naturally curly hair that has a mind of its own and usually looks like crap 99% of the time. My nails have been growing really long. They eventually break, but they did that pre-preg anyway.

hospital bag You guys are soooooo far ahead of me!

Symptoms- So far I have only had the following symptoms:
Hip pain, stretch marks, low blood sugar (twice), and some stretching pains but that's about it.
My hair is a lacky a little luster this past week but I think it is more due to the weather changes here. Also my hair has lightened a little and I actually like the color that has come in. I haven't had my hair colored since Halloween.

Weight gain- I don't check in between appointments but last time I checked I was up 11 lbs total at 21 weeks but I know this is the time that we really start gaining. I finally got motivated and exercised last night! I need to be doing more though. Especially now that my sweet tooth is kicking into overdrive!

Hospital bag- In the book "So that's what they're there for" it says to bring like 4-5 pillows... Is that really neccesary? I just can't see bringing in more than my boppy pillow and maybe a regular one so that I have one for my back and one for my head. Thanks for the tip on the dark socks. There is so much that you just don't even think about!

Weight-I don't weigh between appt.'s but at my last one I had gained 6 pounds. I know I have gained more than that now and will update when I have my next appt. March 9. I am not really exercising or eating all that great. I got some Swedish Fish from the video store last week. They were good! I'm about to go see if there are any left in the fridge. I'd never had them before. Thanks Ryan:rolleyes: , aren't you the one that started all this trouble?

Hair-Mine isn't all that pretty right now. I've always shed a lot and it seems worse now, and lackluster too. And my stomach is getting HAIRY :o .

Getting dressed and bending over and stuff is definately getting harder now I definately agree with this - glad to see I am not the only one with this problem.

hair: my hair was brittle before becoming preg cause I have major thyroid issues it seems to still be breaking/ falling out alot but not as bad. Last week when I got my hair highlighted my hair stylist was complimenting me on how soft my hair was.

I went to Kmart on my lunch break (about 25 mins away) & they had 1 white wood glider with ottoman with PINK cushions ... wooohooo - SCORE !!!!! I am glad they had the blue one on display for me to test out - Had to make sure my fat bootie could fit into it. lol $79.99 I would suggest this one to you if you dont have the $199 -$450 that other places charge for the glider & ottoman.

Pink ~ Thanks for bringing up the hairy belly...I've been meaning to ask about that. I found I don't have the dark line (Linea Nigra) that some women have (check out the Belly Pictures thread) but I've noticed that I'm starting to get longer and darker hair (still soft though, not like pubic hair) around my belly button. Thought it was weird at first...now it's just kind of gross looking. Glad to hear that someone else has it too.

Pillow Problems ~ Poor DH, with the body pillow in front, the two pillows under my head and the one I've just started using at my back, DH keeps complaining that he's being thrown out of the bed. And the shame of it all, just before he gets up in the morning (leaves before I do) I throw all the pillows on the floor. Just as he's able to get comfy again, his alarm goes off.

Hairy belly -- *raising hand* I've got one too.... just noticed a few weeks ago that the hair around my belly button is getting a little longer and a little darker.

Linea Nigra -- don't have it... yet. I seem to remember not getting a Linea Nigra until well into my pg with Connor. ANd then it didn't fade for quite some time (months? a year) after he was born. I remember wondering if I'd have that line for the rest of my life! :)

Pillow -- I've been using a body pillow for about two months now. I call it my boyfriend. DH has offered to be my body pillow, but I'm afraid he's got ulterior motives. ;)

Bending over etc.-- hasn't been too bad yet. I can still shave my legs (can't say the same for other parts though -- DH has a new household duty as of last week) and do other things that require bending at the waist. Modified/calculated bending, but I can still do a lot.

Bending ~ Connorsmommy, I'm so jealous. I was putting my socks and my undies on this morning thinking that this was just plain uncomfortable. Not that I think I'm that big, but my darn belly (which I do love) just gets in the way.

I tried to bend down this morning to wipe something off the floor and had to do the squat and twist at the waist, just to be able to reach the floor...otherwise my bum is right up in the air, my legs are bent at the knees and I just look awfully unattractive that way.

And shaving, I tried my best to do it last week and did an okay job, but I think DH is going to have to help me out on that one next time (I will go get a wax before letting him close to my other parts with a razor) Although I must admit, the hair on my legs (only my legs) is growing incredibly slow. I figure I may only have to shave two or three more times before baby is born.

Speaking of bellies getting in the way of bending, has anyone noticed that their belly is impeding BD'ing with DH.

*Possibly TMI*
DH much prefers the missionary style, but last time we did it that way, I found it very uncomfortable and almost like I was suffocating. I told DH that we were going to have to come up with other 'creative' ways of BD for the future, but I don't think he liked that answer much.

Just wondered if anyone else was having the problem...and have you come up with any solutions?

Linea nigra – definitely. It even extends past the belly button half way up the belly.

Hairy belly – I’ve always had that but I can tell that it is getting hairier and is growing in new places.

Body pillow – dh isn’t complaining. I don’t use any other pillow but that one so I don’t take up that much more room. He still manages to be all over me.

Sunshine – glad you got your glider. We still have 12-14 weeks before ours even comes in.

Bending over – it depends what I’m wearing. If my clothes are very loose I have no problems. The key for me is making room for the belly. I have to spread my legs a little to make room for the belly

Shave legs – I don’t do it so I have no worries. My hairs are fine and short so I leave them alone. DH trims my other area. This way he does it the way he likes it. He uses trimmer to do it. I don’t like to shave it since I get shaving bumps and it’s itcy. The closeness of the trimmer is fine for me. I wouldn’t dare attempt to trim myself now. I can’t even see it. He trims himself too…and it is totally sexy.

I keep losing my reply because the server is too busy!

Hair-Brownie, you could not have explained the hair situation better. Mine looks just like that. It's all wild! No linea. I don't think I'll get one. I'm really fair.

Bending-I am huffing and puffing every time I get dressed already! Bending is definately hard!

Body pillow-I got one for Christmas and really don't use it. It's too big and bulky. It's not a Snoogle, just one Dh got from BBB. He puts it under his head some, but doesn't use it as a body pillow, just an extra pillow.

I found the Swedish Fish and had a few. I'm using restraint. I made a big pot of chili for dinner and of course it's not cold here anymore :rolleyes: . It's jusr rainy and icky. I'll be wearing shorts and eatin' chili!

hairy belly I've noticed that, too. I also think I'm getting the linea nigra. It's hard to bend over and tell if it's that or the dark hair, but I'm pretty confident it's the line.

bending over I'm about to go get a shower and attempt shaving my legs. We'll see how that goes!

bd'ing I've been curious about this and thinking about asking- I'm not really having the position problem because we aren't really doing it. I think DH is a bit freaked out by how different my body is, and while I wouldn't mind doing it, I do feel self-concious cause I have gotten so big. Any position that would avoid my belly would leave him staring at my big old butt and I don't really want that. How often do you still DTD? I think we might be doing it only once a month if that. Our schedules are really opposite, too. That doesn't help. DH sometimes works nights and weekends, so even pre-preg, our chances to DTD were few. It seems like when he is around, I'm just so tired and I go to bed early. Then there's the pillow fort that surrounds me in bed. It's kinda bumming me out and I hope we can return to normal after the baby comes. I have a friend who is PG also, she's a week ahead of me, and the way she talks, her and her DH are still doing it like rabbits.

Linea Niagra- Nope not yet

BD- Way TMI but the only ways we can BD is from behind and I support myself with pillows under my belly or some variation of him behind me on my side. I also have to keep my bra on now, the bouncing is distracting and gets me out of the mood quick. We still BD about 1-2x a week, in the first trimester we didn't as often since I was spotting and it was freaking both of us out.

Bending over- I have problems bending over in my chair. As far as I know I'm not embarassig myself bending over yet.

Shaving- I can still shave, I just need to hold my tummy with my other hand. DH has trimmers that I can use blindly when I can no longer see for myself. DH is also willing to help when I need it.

Pillows- We flip a couple of times but I keep a pillow on the opposite side of me and sleep either spooning DH pillow behind me, cuddling pillow Dh cuddling me, or back to each other and cuddling our pillows. It's cute I woke up this morning and DH put a pillow on his opposite side too. I guess he wants to sleep like a mommy too!

Speaking of---- Anyone else's DH having sympathy pains/symptoms? DH's hip has also been bothering him and the other day when my wisdom tooth broke gum he was complaining about his jaw hurting on the same side. I thought it was cute (As long as he isn't stealing my thunder :) )

OMG! These discussions are cracking me up. Isn't it funny how IRL, we would most likely never discuss these subjects except with really really close friends. Why is it so much easier online... anyway.

Hair: Haven't notice much difference with my hair. I typically have limp straight hair that sheds quite a bit. I still shed, not sure if it's any less. On my legs, I have noticed for the past month or so that even if I don't shave, it's so fine you can hardly notice anything. I trim other parts. Did it two weeks ago and it's still ok.
Linea Negra... it has been creeping up slowly. It seems to come and go. It's still very light. It's a little crooked to the side as is the shape of my belly. My sister said she didn't notice hers until after delivery.

BD'ing: Have you seen Munich the movie? There's a good position in there that is also in the Pregnancy Bible book (haven't tried that one yet). DH prefers when I'm on top, so that works for us, though I do get tired more quickly. Other suggestions ladies... a chair (without arms), or an ottoman work when you are on top (not as strenuous on knees or hips). Another one is to scootch (sp?) to the end of the bed (like on the OB exam table) and DH stands. It works if your bed is high.

Bending: I have started giving DH warning that he needs to be better at not leaving things on the floor because I hate bending now.

What about dishes? I noticed that because I have to stand further away from the sink, the heavy pots give me more strain. Wish me luck trying to get DH to do the dishes... :rolleyes:

Hairy belly -- Add me to the list - it's only a few hairs beneath my belly button, but I hate it. Thankfully, I know it goes away.

Linea Nigra -- don't have it and I didn't last time with DS either.

Body Pillow -- I'm a side sleeper so I sleep comfortably and well when I'm pg. I didn't use a body pillow last time and don't need one yet this time.

Bending over etc. -- I'm not having any problems with shaving my legs yet. I'm not loving putting my socks on as my belly is so high. I bend over when I sweep the floor and to pick up DS's toys a lot but am not having any issues yet.

Hair and nails ~ I have thick hair and am not shedding too much. I definitely need some highlights though. :) My nails grow so fast and are really thick (always have been) which stinks because I type so much that they inevitably break off.

BD ~ We still BD a couple times a week. This is just recent as we were going a couple weeks without because I didn't feel good. My libido is definitely back. We can still do it missionary style without any problem. I've heard that having the woman on top is a great way to do it once your belly gets in the way.

Hairy belly - Kind of. It's light so far, but I definitely notice more of it.

Linea Nigra - Not yet, and I'm pretty fair, so maybe I won't get one?

Body Pillow - I had to chuckle at the image of the "Pillow Fort" jBenny mentioned. I've just been using a small travel-size pillow between my knees, which works for now.

Bending over/shaving - I'm really not having any problems yet. I still feel like I'm hardly showing, so I'm still able to move around like normal.

Hair - I don't think I've really noticed much of a difference in my hair because I've had to stop coloring it. So I'm not sure if the changes I have noticed are pg related, or just my actual REAL hair making it's first appearance in over 10 years. But I AM noticing more facial hair, which has me feeling like Sasquatch.

Weight - I've been freaking out about this for the past few months. My goal is 25lbs, and we'll see how my appointment goes on Friday, but I think I'm up about 13lbs so far? I woudn't be so freaked out if my belly was getting bigger, but since it's my butt and thighs that are taking the brunt of the weight gain, it has me a bit nervous about losing it after the baby comes. Luckily I've been working out about 4-5 times a week pretty consistently, and for the most part eating healthy. And for some strange reason, my weight gain has plateaued.

BD - I think we average about 2 times a week. Both of us wish it was more, but then we're too tired to do much about it. I told DH the other night "You have to get me BEFORE I get hungry, but NOT AFTER I eat, and not right before we got to bed, because then all I can think about is sleep". So, since he really can't run home for a booty call in the afternoon, we're trying to figure this all out.

sarahncraig
02-22-2006, 04:49 PM
Hair - I haven't lost any more hair than usual. And my hair is the same as it has always been, no thicker, etc.

Weight - I am proud to say that I have only gained about 2-3 pounds. That must be a gift God gives us bigger women. Sah-weet! I'll take it. I know that I will start gaining soon, though.

Hairy belly - Nope.

Bending - Starting to become a problem so I usually bend at the knees now instead of at the waist.

Linea Nigra - Not yet.

Hospital bag - hahaha Yeah. Right. I'm not that organized.

This thread was pretty amusing today. Definately not things I would discuss IRL, but it's nice to get opinions instead of wondering.

Shaving: I get eczema in the winter, so I only shave about once a week or my legs break out like crazy. Pregnancy has been nice since it's seemed to slow down the hair growth on my legs- other places, not so much.

Bending over: It's getting harder if I'm already sitting. Unfortunately Mia seems to drop everything on the floor and than asks me to get it. I think she finds the grunting noises pretty humerous.

Pillows: I've definately developed a pillow fort too. I, unfortunately get lightheaded if I'm on my back, so I try to barricade myself on my side. If not, I wake up feeling really bad with my heart racing. Good think we have a king bed or there's no way DH would fit in there too.

BDing: Only about 1-2 times a month now. Spooning is probably the best or an armless chair, couch.

Hair: It's amazing what pregnancy will do. My hair looks like crap- it's never been the same since Mia was born. I used to have poker straight hair. I could let it air dry and it'd look great. About six months after Mia was born I started noticing a bump in the back. I thought it was from wearing it in a pony tail all the time. Instead, the back of my hair is now wavy, some parts actually curly. The front is still poker straight. It's awful. Hope it goes back to straight after this baby.

Weight: UGH. I'm getting HUGE. I don't understand it. I looked back at Mia's pregnancy journal and I weigh less than I did with her at this point. However, I'm huge already. How is that possible?

Symptoms: I'm dreading the rest of pregnancy. The last pregnancy my blood pressure would nose dive numerous times a day and stay down for anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours. It's starting again. I forgot how bad it felt. Last time I had to stop driving and couldn't go anywhere alone after about 25 weeks. I used to work 45 minutes from home and had to quit early when I barely made it to work without passing out. My blood pressure was 70/40 while laying down for the next 40 minutes. It's going to be twice as hard dealing with it with a 2 year old running around.

Telling other children: We've told Mia, but she's pretty clueless. When asked if she's having a brother or sister, she usually says sister. If you ask if it's a boy or girl, she'll usually say a boy.:rolleyes: Guess we need to start teaching gender. It has been nice that our babysitter just had her second baby in December and Mia is totally in love with her baby girl. She's also BFing, so Mia's getting some exposure to that too- should make things a little easier on me.
Of course, I think sibling rivalry is already starting. The other day I was holding Mia and the baby kicked hard enough for her to feel. She gave me a funny look so I told her the baby just kicked her. She went running to Daddy to whine about how the baby kicked her. I think it's only the beginning.

I am hoping someone here can tell me what I had last night is normal.

when I got home from work and was checking my home e-mail, I started getting sharp pains and cramping in the left lower side of my abdomen. it was pretty consistent. . not coming and going like I would imagine contractions. after a while it wrapped around my belly and started hurting just below my belly. never got to the right side and never any higher than below my uterus. I laid on the couch most of the night but it didn't really go away until bed time. the baby was kicking up a storm the whole time but it felt so close to meunstral pain that it kind of had me worried. this morning it's still there but not as bad. is this normal or should I call the doctor? and will I ever stop worrying about every ache and pain?

Thanks in advance for calming me down!

Bumbo seat – It arrived yesterday. I love the color (lime). DH told me that he can’t wait for the baby to get here. I am anxious too, but am willing to wait for our little one to finish baking.

Shoulda – I’m not sure what the pain was. I guess it could be round ligament. If I were nervous I would just call your doctor/midwife/nurse and see what they think. I occasionally get a constant pain under my belly and have attributed it to round ligament pain. The pain for me feels like a strained muscle.

baby belly – there is no doubt that I have one. DH and I were admiring my belly last night. I was standing in front of a low cut mirror andI had on some low cut undies and they curve under my belly. DH asked me if I wear maternity underwear and I told him no, that I prefer the low cut regular undies because they are comfy. I don’t like underwear to roll down and I don’t want them up to my bra. I asked if he would prefer I wear maternity bloomers and he of course said no. My boss came to me early this week and said “You are really starting to look pregnant….Is there something you should tell us?” He was implying that I hadn’t told him, but he was just joking. The funny thing is, I can’t imagine getting any bigger.

Shoulda: I had this pain about 1.5 months ago... and mine was the same way. It started on my left and slowly made it to my right and no matter what I did I could not fall asleep. It killed and it lasted all night long for me. The only relief I got was sitting up straight in bed. I figured it was round ligament but I called the nurse to be sure... I took Tylenol the next morning because the pain continued... (WHICH HELPED SO MUCH)... it sounds like round ligament pain to me... but you can always call your dr. if you are still concerned and see what they have to say...

thanks Ryan and DS. I am getting more calm as the day goes on. I guess I just can't help thinking that anything that hurt that bad has to be bad news. I think I'll put off calling the doctor unless it comes back again. if I am this whiney about round ligament pain, I think I am going to be a disaster when it comes to actual labor! :eek:

shouldaeloped, sounds like round ligament pain to me as well. I get times where it just feels like a bad muscle strain but it lasts the whole evening.

ds2003, yay for the bumbo! I want to get a lime one too, I may have to order online since it looks like Target only has blue and lilac. Oh, on the underwear, low cut is definitely the way to go! I have a few pairs of maternity underwear from Old Navy, Japanese Weekend and Target and they are all just extra low-cut in the front so they don't roll. Actually, they are so comfy that I just added them to my regular underwear rotation and kept on wearing them in-between pregnancies, especially before I lost all the weight.

shoulda if I am this whiney about round ligament pain, I think I am going to be a disaster when it comes to actual labor

I find that I worry more when I am in pain and don’t know why because I start to expect the worse. When you are in labor, you know exactly why and can be more relaxed because you know the pain is supposed to be there is a part of birthing process. You will be find during the actual labor.

orange I think I will hit Target and get some more. I prefer the low cut ones so much more and I only have a few pair from Vickie’s.

ds2003,

When you are in labor, you know exactly why and can be more relaxed because you know the pain is supposed to be there is a part of birthing process.

This is so true. That was my philosophy before labor with my DD and it turned out to be totally true. Everyone is different, I think, but I felt that labor was very intense but not what I would call painful. Feeling your body work that way is very cool!

You all are a chatty group this week! Let me try to catch up....

Linea nigra: Not yet. I'm also very fair so I expected I would get this early in my pregnancy.

Hairy belly: I've noticed some excess growth but it isn't too bad.

Body pillow (aka: pillow fort): I'm sleeping with two pillows under my head and one pillow behind me in an attempt to keep me on my left side. I prefer to sleep on my right side but the pillow does a pretty good job of preventing me from flipping over. I'm thinking of switching sides of the bed with DH since I think my preference for my right side is because he is on that side of me.

Bending over: I just started to notice this obstacle recently. Putting on shoes and socks is a bit of a production. I've been forced to take a seat when tackling this task!

Shaving legs: I haven't noticed a difference in growth. We have a clawfoot tub that has a good ledge to make shaving pretty easy.

Baby was moving around a lot last night--so much so that I could see the movement from the outside. DH kept trying to get a glimpse but the baby stopped everytime he looked up from his laptop. He left his hand on my belly and finally felt a huge kick. He thought I had changed positions because my belly moved so much. It was pretty cool!

Re: sleeping on your right side...

I'm also a side sleeper and I definitely prefer sleeping on my right side. I remember asking my Dr. about it when I was pg with Connor b/c I had a hard time sleeping on my left side (I can do it, but find it takes longer to get comfy for me...and I end up flipping over more often when I start out on my left side).

She told me that sleeping on my right side was fine... Left side is "ideal" based on the position of some artery (?) but that right side was fine as well. She just didn't want me sleeping on my tummy or back (which I couldn't do even if I tried!)

Side sleeping – I was also told that I could sleep on either side. I can’t stay on the same side all night. I’m still not completely on my side, I can roll forward a little. My doc also said that for some women back sleeping is also find. He said it depends on your body. If you start to feel light headed or a reduction in circulation then don’t do it, but for some women it is fine. I could never sleep on my back so it isn’t a concern for me. I do like to lounge on my back though, which I rarely do and for only short periods of time.

Nausea ~ Any find their nausea and vomiting making a comeback? On Tuesday night I got sick before bed and then woke up at 4 this morning to throw up again. I'm hoping it's only temporary and not going to last until she's born.

Thanks for the reassurance Connorsmom and DS. I do manage to stay on one of my sides most of the time so I won't worry about it anymore! However, I was on my back last night when I was watching my belly move and when I got up my legs kinda gave out. Must stay off my back!

How's everyone doing with the bedding search (especially those looking for gender neutral sets)? I had my DH, sister, and Mom vote on some sets and both my sister and DH picked the one below from Target (Amy Coe-Peanut Mod). I ordered the receiving blankets to get an idea of the color since I couldn't find the sets in the store and it is pretty cute!

Lounging on my back...this is getting harder and harder. While I could *never* sleep on my back, I do like to sit back with my feet up in our laZBoy recliner or LaZBoy couch. But that is getting harder and harder. The more I lean back, the more uncomfortable it gets. It feels like my lungs are getting squeezed and I can't get enough oxygen even with breathing deeply. So, now to lounge on one of the LaZBoys, I have to turn to my side and put pillows in the hole that's created between my hip and where the back and seat of the LaZBoy meets.

Cute bedding amurphy!

Lounging on back- I am still not having any problems on my back. I talked to my dr about it because I was worried that I shouldn't be doing crunches any more. He said that my body will tell me what I can and can't do physically any more.

Laying on back ~ Baby girl is much more active when I lay on my back than any other position. I do sleep on my side but when I first lay down in bed I lay on my back for a few minutes and she bounces all over the place.

Hi Ladies, so hard to keep up. DH finally started the new bedroom for Colton so I'm extra stressed. I wanted him to start it so bad and now I am having a losing battle with plaster dust in the rest of the house. This Preggo is losin it.

Body pillows-can't live without mine. We call it the "jersey barrier" because I keep it between me and DH. He likes to snuggle but I can't bear to have any extra burden on my body. I'm very grouchy these days.

BD-we have been DTD about once a week, but I'm not really interested, I just do it for him. We can still do missionary but then my groin ligaments throb after. And we definitely do it in the dark.....feeling like a house. Which brings me to:

Weight gain-I am up 16 lbs at almost 26 weeks which I am happy about, but I was much heavier starting out than my first pregnancy. Aiming for the 25lb mark.

Morning everyone...it is a chatty day for us.

I've had the morning from H*LL...started when I first woke up and just couldn't get out of bed and progressed to where two police cars with their lights on had me pulled over on one of the busiest streets during rush hour traffic. I was mortified, but hopefully have it all sorted out (BTW ~ Not my fault, the ticket had been paid and no notification of a suspended license had been sent out...still going to cost me $200 to get my license back and I can't drive for 5 days, but at least I'm not in jail!)

BD ~ Since I started this one, I suppose I should answer it. We are still doing it about 2-3 times per week (although some weeks it's only been once) and were doing the missionary position until just this last weekend. I told DH that it's now uncomfortable (and also makes my hips ache) and my body does not want to be moving in the positions it used to before. So, we are going to have to start other methods, but I don't like being on top (his hips are too wide and my thighs are too big) to make it comfortable and I don't think we are coordinated enough to do the position used in Munich...although I must say they did look like they were thoroughly enjoying it (realistically who sweats that much during intercourse?) I think we are left with the 'from behind' method...which I admit is my favourite, but DH misses the eye contact and being able to kiss.

I also find that my libido has increased, but it's always at the most inoppotune times. Like last night at midnight, when we had been in bed for almost 30 minutes and DH had a bad headache...all he had to do was touch me and that would've been the end of it, but his head hurt!

Sleeping ~ I have to admit that I'm having a really hard time with this. I use a whole bunch of pillows at night, but always seem to untangle myself or throw them out of the bed. The last few nights I do find I've been flipping back on to my stomach (although it's more side stomach than what it used to be.)

I'm a little worried, especially since I didn't feel the baby move for a long time this morning (just about the time the cop pulled me over and my heart started racing) And I haven't any problems with sleeping on my back and still end up in that position several times a week. I was worried about not staying on my side and asked my M/W...she said not to worry too much, that my body won't let me do anything to hurt myself or the baby (does that include the stomach sleeping?) and that my body will force me to move when it's in danger. I sure hope she's right, cause it's going to be a long 14 weeks until this baby is born.

Nausea ~ Any find their nausea and vomiting making a comeback? On Tuesday night I got sick before bed and then woke up at 4 this morning to throw up again. I'm hoping it's only temporary and not going to last until she's born.

I threw up on Monday during a long car ride, I had to get my Dad to pull over so I could do it.

I also threw up today and am not feeling too hot. I too hope it's a fluke and not going to continue.

nausea has returned for me:( i had it REALLY bad on monday night. and my headaches are pretty constant too. i hope i dont start throwing up though i have to admit i wanted to really badly on monday, just so i could feel better.

sleeping i'm not comfy sleeping on my left side and i sometimes find myself on my belly with the pillow under me when i wake in the morning :rolleyes: i usually end up on my right and thats most comfy for me.

amurphy we're having a hard time deciding on bedding too....i looked at that set and we like it but still havent decided.

I think with all this nauseau going around, I'm not going to stop taking my magic pills. Was thinking about weaning myself off them, but if there's no side effects and people are starting to notice a re-occurence, why mess with a good thing.

I've been relative good lately with that, although started coughing again the last few days and that always makes me feel and worry that I'm going to be sick. Luckily, it hasn't happened yet!

m/s: I haven't had any throwing up this week but in the last 3 weeks I have had been sick atleast twice a wk. - I am gagging soooo much when brush my teeth. It was not like this in the 1st trimester. Certain smells still make me gag. I guess it will be this way all the way through my pregnancy.

DTD: Not as much as DH would like ... ha ha - I have not been wanting it much at all - we actually DTD maybe 2-4 times a month. How sad is that? Last time was crazy in missionary baby girl was going nuts and then my stomache was soooo hard - so we are sticking to other positions from now on.

sleeping: I have been a stomache sleeper all my life so since week 14 I have been trying to sleep on my side ... right side is better than my left but out of 7 nights a week I probably have 2-3 good nights of sleep. Last night I stayed up from 200-330 just cause I was not able to sleep -

Hi everyone. I've been diligently following along, but haven't had time to post 'til now. I'm home today trying to recover from...something. I left work yesterday feeling kind of sore around my belly (round ligaments I think), and then on my way home I got very lightheaded. Finally got home and just laid down all evening, then at 3 a.m. got up to go to the bathroom and started vomiting like crazy. Blech. I thought maybe I had some food poisoning or something, but I don't know. Feel better today, but still have moments of lightheadedness, and was worried about it happening in the car again. jay+erinn: could you tell me what it felt like when your bp would drop with your last pg? I sometimes get this feeling like I just have to lay down or I'm going to pass out. Not fun when it happens while driving.

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well around here lately. Lots of QOTDs to try to answer...

Shaving: I'm down to maybe once every 2 weeks. It's not that difficult, it's just that I'm usually running late for work so I don't want to take the time. :o My hair is definitely much finer though and not growing as fast.

Bending: Oy, putting on socks each morning= not fun. DH laughs at me because I look like such a dork. I'm pretty much living in slip on shoes so I don't have to worry about bending over to tie them. Now if I could just stop dropping paperclips at work!

Pillows: I have a body pillow, but I don't typically use it to sleep. If I do I end up getting ferociously warm and throwing it off the bed in the middle of the night. Lately the cat has been cozying up to me in bed on one side and DH on the other and I get completely wedged between the covers and I can't move. I usually push DH over to his side when that happens rather than moving the cat. :D I'm constantly flipping over from side to side though because whatever side I'm laying on starts to go numb. Thankfully, I can usually go back to sleep right away.

BD: Ugh. We've been doing it about once a week lately, but I can't say that I'm usually in the mood because I know that it's going to hurt! I enjoy cuddling and doing things for DH, but the actual, um, penetration has been really uncomfortable for me lately. I feel like I'm super duper tight down there, and even lube doesn't seem to help all that much. When we do it it's usually been me on top.

Hair: My hair has looked pretty decent lately. Shiny and quite a bit of body. Grows like a weed though, so I'm getting trims every 4 weeks- mostly just to keep my bangs out of my eyes.

Weight: Still hovering around 20-22 pounds gained. My mom told me she gained 45 pounds with me and then lost it right away, so I'm hoping that's how I'll be. Everything is still pretty much right out in front. Serious basketball belly going on. And my super innie belly button has popped out. :rolleyes:

Linea Nigra: Yep, I have one of these. I'm pretty light-skinned, but I definitely have a line that goes clear up past my belly button. And I have some fine hair on my belly, especially under my belly button, but it's not too dark or anything.

Does anyone else sneeze a lot? I don't have a cold, and I don't think I've been having allergies, but sometimes out of nowhere I'll just have a huge sneeze. I've started making sure I have kleenex with me at all times.

Gaffy ~ Love the belly! For being date twins (kind of...we are both expecting a little earlier I think) my belly doesn't look nearly as nice as yours.

I still have a pooch (the belly fat that lived there before getting PG) and it gives me an awful look. But I must take some more pictures tomorrow at 26 weeks.

Had my OB appointment this morning for one-hour GTT. They will call me with the results. The "juice" was tolerable, though I found it hard to drink the whole thing so quickly in the morning.
It hasn't been a great morning. And the doc had warned me that I had to be very diligent with the schedule for the blood draw. So I came to their office 20 min early. But they made me wait so long that I had to remind them to hurry up or I was going to be over 1 hour. They drew 1:05 later. I will be mad if they make me do it again (sounded from what the doc had said that anything over 1 hour means I'll have to redo it). We'll see!

The doc said my belly was measuring right on target for 24 weeks. I have gained a total of 10 lbs. Annabelle's heart rate was 150 today.

Future appointments:
My 28 week appt is on March 23.
After that they want to see me every 2 weeks, so week 30 appt is on April 6th.

Hello All :D

This thread flew by these past few days.

shaving: The hair on my legs doesn't seem to grow as fast as the hair under my arms. I try to shave at least once a week, but that doesn't always work either. It seems to grow faster than it was before but not as fast as under my arms.

linea negra: It hasn't come up yet with this one. I got it at the end with Niko but it wasn't dark and only lasted about 3 months after he was born.

hair on belly: I've always gotten it and have always shaved it. Especially before my dr's appt when I know they're going to be looking at my belly.

pillows: I'm still sleeping with just the one under my head. I did have another in the bed for between my legs, but it seemed more uncomfortable and in the way then helpful. We'll see what happens over the next few months.

BD'ing: As most, not as much as Brian would like; if it was up to him it would be every morning and night - with an afternoon romp on Sat & Sun. When it does happen, I'm usually on my side in front of him.

bending over: I've been wearing slip on shoes so I don't have to worry about lacing anything, but socks are a different story. I have to cross my legs like men do to put them on. I usually squat if I have to pick something up, and now I need to hold onto something to get back up.

hair: My hair has always been unmanagable so it really hasn't changed. I do remember after Niko that I lost tons of hair for a while.

telling other children: We've been telling Niko that there is a baby in my belly. If you ask him where's the baby, he either points to himself or my belly and says baby. Every once in a while he will kiss my belly.
Other than that, I don't think he completely understands the concept. Our dogs however understand. I prepared them before Niko came home and now when I say there's a baby in mommy's belly they give me that "oh no, not another one" look :D

Quick update for us: I'm pretty much taking zantac everyday now. The burning in my throat gets really bad. I'm going to ask the dr on Tues about it.
We still aren't 100% sure about a name. I'm really secretly hoping that when he is born, Brian will give in and let me have Gabriel :p It is wishful thinking but I can keep hope alive, can't I :D
And lastly... we went to Ikea last night and got the stuff for the bathroom. We picked up the vanity, mirror, small cabinet and wall cabinet. I also got the curtain rods for Niko's new room and a few other things. Brian is going to Home Depot tonight to pick up the rest of the stuff and the bathroom remodel will begin tomorrow :D The basement is next weekend and that means we're getting the ball rolling on moving Nikolas into his room. Hopefully we'll get this all done w/o a glitch.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Okay between Graffy and Nikosmommy's post this whole baby is coming got a lot more real for me! I can't believe how close we are to having our babies!

We have been good but I really need to get my butt in gear when it comes to preparing the baby's room. I'm just such a procrastinator... I get on a good run early and lose momentum fast... Heck, we haven't even done our taxes yet and we're expecting a refund that could go towards setting up baby and getting crap paid off.

I asked it on the other thread but I'd lik e to hear from everone... For those of you breast feeding, are any of you getting a little anxiety over it. I learned that I have flat nipples and will need those breast shells and I guess I get a little nervous about the whole thing. I guess I'm scared that I am going to have a power nurser and be stuck in the house for the first couple of months with my boob out.

Cute belly shots everyone!

Graffy I have been feeling lightheaded alot too. I have been told that is probably my blood sugar levels going up and down too rapidly. They have given me some tips for food I am going to try out. Like to avoid OJ and cereal in the morning. Instead have eggs and toast. And have snacks with lots of peanut butter. Like toast and crackers.

Thanks for the nice comments on my burgeoning belly Mrs. B and Kaeden's. :) It's just really hard to believe that I'm going to keep getting bigger!!! Especially when people look surprised that I'm due late May/early June and they tell me they would've guessed March!!! :eek: I mean, hello, that's next month! By May I'm gonna have to start pushing my belly around in a wheelbarrow I'm afraid.

excited bride: That's good advice about the diet. Cereal and OJ pretty much describes my breakfast every day. The last few weeks I'd been doing pretty well at getting plenty of protein in my diet, but now that I think about it I've been slacking quite a bit this week. I'll have to start being more diligent because that is not a good feeling at all. Especially when driving!

Baby's room: I hear you Lil_Mrs about the procrastinating. The problem with us is that DH is studying for a really big test for work which will happen on April 21st. I feel really bad about burdening him with helping me get things ready since I know this test is burden enough, and I can't really do much on my own. His aunt has offered to buy the paint and paint the room for us at the end of March, which is awesome, but I keep thinking, "how are we going to have the room ready to be painted by then???" And she keeps asking me what I'm thinking colorwise and I'm like, "welll, let me find some bedding that I like and then I'll get back to you." I'm the queen of procrastination. I did finally register last Monday at Baby Depot, so I'm a leetle bit on the ball.

Hi ladies,

I still can't believe I am more than half way through this pregnancy. Feels like it was just yesterday that I got my BFP :)

We had a very productive weekend. We ordered the crib and dresser and I purchased the baby bedding. I had my heart set on bedding from Laylagrayce.com, but when it came down to it, I just couldn't spend $500 on a bedding set. So, I found one that I liked at Baby Depot for significantly less.

DH will pick-up the crib and dresser this Saturday. They will be stored in the garage until we've cleaned out the room and have painted. My goal is to have the nursery done by the end of March. Now let's just see if that happens..... DH is known to procrastinate.

I also priced some chairs/ottomen for the nursery and we found the stroller we want: Chicco's Cortina travel system. I will register for it, amongst other things, but not until the end of March. It should be fun to register, but to me, it just sounds like one more thing to do right now.

Sleeping: Gone are the days of a good night's sleep. I ususally wake up 1-2 times to pee and I toss and turn all night long. I try so hard to stay on my side, but my hips start to hurt so I end up on my back which I know is not good :(

DTD: I am so not into BD'ing. I had heard your libido really "awakened" during the 2nd trimester..... I guess not for me!! I do have very explicit sexual/bizarre dreams, which is quite odd, but the thought of actually BD'ing is so not interesting to me right now. Poor DH. We are averaging once per week at this point. My belly hasn't really gotten in the way yet, but I am sure it will soon. Another issue is, DH waits until I am already asleep to BD and this does not make me happy! I told him if he wants it, he's got to come and get it, early in the evening before I get too tired.

I have a question regarding pediatricians: I was told that your pediatrician will visit you in the hospital before the baby goes home and as such, you have to schedule this visit in advance. I had not heard this before.... I just assumed the baby was looked after by the nurses/docs at the hospital and that you took the baby to the pediatrician a week or so after you were home. Does anyone know anything about this? TIA.

It's almost Friday!!!! :D

Great belly shots, LilMrs and Graffy! :D

I feel like my belly has grown a lot in the last two weeks...but people at work are still just now noticing that I'm pregnant and shocked that I'm due as early as March. I guess it is because I'm tall and because my belly seems to have taken on more of a melon shape--not sticking straight out. Plus, my good friend at work is 3 weeks ahead of me and pregnant with her second child so she looks much, much farther along. Oh well.

As for nursery prep, I thought it wasn't on my DH's mind since, but I was wrong. He sent me a spreadsheet of all the house projects he wants to complete and labeled them according to priority. He has March and April set aside for nursery stuff. I know many of you are already working on your baby's nursery, but we just don't have that much to do in that room so I think our timeline will work for us.

Not much new to report. I'll have to take a belly picture tomorrow and share it with you all so you can see how much I've expanded! Have a good weekend!

Hi everyone! I've been checking in to read up here and there but haven't had a chance to post until now. Work has been incredibly busy. I hope it slows down soon...

All's well over here. I have some extra - but fine- hair on the belly, but no linea negra, at least not yet. I haven't really noticed any change in terms of the hair on my head.

DTD Usually 2X a week.

getting ready for baby we'll probably paint the baby's room this weekend, or at least get started on it. I freaked when I saw some posts on packing a bag for the hospital. I'm just so not there yet. Maybe in another month?

belly shots you ladies look great! I have pics that I haven't developed yet, so maybe when we do I can share some.

excited good luck kicking the cereal/OJ habit. That's my weakness too, although for the past month or two I switched to milk and cereal and try to pick the healthier variety with bran, oats, etc. It's just so much quicker and easier in the AM.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Hello All :D

Cute belly shots mommies :D

I had a little panic this morning about getting things ready in time. What if it doesn't happen? I know the bathroom will be done, but what if we don't get the guest room in the basement done? Then our out of town guests will have to sleep either in a hotel or on the air mattress. I'm freaking a little. I just wish I could help Brian do more :(

Ok, need to vent... Nikolas sleeps through the night like a champ. Usually goes down around 8 and wakes between 8 and 9. Last night he was so good that he was up to 9:30, and when he does that he sleeps all night no problems. Well last night at 2:30 he started whining. I was in our bedroom and Brian was on the futon in the office (he stays up late to watch movies so he ends up sleeping on it to not wake me up). We usually let Niko whine and he goes back to sleep.
Last night he didn't and went into a full cry. Now, as most of you, I can't get up as quickly as I used to. And I have a medical condition called vasovagal which is where my blood pressure doesn't compensate quick enough and I get light headed A LOT and have passed out from it many times. Well it's more prominent while I'm pg cause everything is off already.
Anyway, I make it into Niko's room maybe 30 seconds after Brian and he has attitude that he *had* to get up with him and I didn't. Um hello, I can't move quickly and pretty much have to sit a minute to let me head level out or I'll pass out.
I went to the bathroom and went back into Niko's room to see if he wanted me to take him and he responds with attitude "I'm already up, go back to sleep, I can handle this and usually do". Um hello, that's going to get you couch time for a month or so.
He seems to forget two nights before when I did pop up, I got so dizzy I fell into the wall. So I should do that, go pick up our son and possibly drop him and fall and hurt the baby?
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Men :rolleyes:
Thanks for letting me vent.

Ok, I'm off to start cleaning the house so it isn't wrecked before we make it messy. I need to clean out the bathroom, take some before pix and just find a place for everything. We're off to Home Depot tonight to get the rest of the stuff and start demo tonight.

Have a good weekend if I don't come back.

Chicco Cortina Stroller-I'm getting this one too. It's so lightweight and cute! I think the one we are getting is orange and tan or gray, I haven't visited it in a while :) .

Getting the baby's room ready-I am probably getting my recliner out of layaway this weekend, my aunt is ordering my crib and I will order my changing table in March I believe (it better get here in time, has anyone else ordered from BRU?), probably get the rest of the junk out of it in April, and vacuumm, clean the window and dust and put in a new ceiling fan right before the furniture comes in probably. It's already been painted and has custom, white, faux wood blinds. The only painting that needs to be done is in the closet. We will buy our own bedding and let people buy us the accessories if they want to for our shower and then load them in. The room has a slanted ceiling, it's going to be so cute as a baby's room. I also want to get a small fridge for upstairs and maybe a small tv and table for next to my recliner. Why doesn't money grow on trees again?

LilMiss-Your bedroom turned out so nice. My Dh would never think to do that for me :( .

Belly Shots-I haven't taken one since week 20 and I'm on week 23 so I better get on the ball! I was so good about it in the beginning. Everyone's looks so cute!

Sunshine – your DH did great job. I love dark walls.

DTD – oh gosh… it rarely happens. When it does it is me on top, spooning or from the back

Plans for this weekend – wash clothes, organize our bedroom and clean out the closet in baby’s room. I would love to also take a trip to IKEA, but I should wait until the closet is clear so I know what I want. I would like for DH to put up the other curtain rod in the baby’s room. I have the curtain push pinned to the top of the window molding. The only way any of this will happen is if we get a great start tomorrow morning. Wake up, open the curtains, put on some music, make breakfast and get started. Sometime this weekend I would like to get pics of the baby’s room, diaper bags and my belly. I hope we can get it all done. We really need another super productive weekend.

Great belly shots. I haven’t taken a shot since 13 weeks. I’m now 23 weeks. That would be a great comparative shot.

Niko's-how can men be so sweet sometimes and so stupid other times. I was trying to get up slowly this am and my not so DH just ripped the body pillow out from under me and rolled over. SO rude.....he just set me off this am and was clueless as to why I was mad:mad: Usually he's pretty considerate so I'm over it......

Nikko's-Men really suck sometimes! Mine will never get up with the dog in the middle of the night. Sometimes she has to go potty around 1-3 am and will bark and scratch the door til you let her out. It's a new thing and it's soooo annoying! I don't know what to do, if she's gotta go, she's gotta go. And if you withhold her water overnight she wakes up and barks at her bowl so either way I'm screwed! He refuses to get up with her EVER! I have to and if I just let her cry he bugs me til I do get up with her. Like I really want to put the dog on a leash, 1/2 asleep and trot on out to the backyard, by myself, in the middle of the night! Even when I did work he would never take care of the dog in the morning or middle of the night, now he feels really entitled not to get up because he "works" and I don't. I can sleep later in the morning and he can't, blah, blah, blah....I'm pregnant, I'm tired, I'm sick, give my a$$ a break once in a while already, even every 5 times maybe would make me happy!:mad: END OF VENT!

I dread seeing how he acts when the baby comes....

pink & ruby Sorry your DH's are butt heads too. At least we know we're not alone.

Ok, so I have a shower to go to this weekend and I made my first diaper cake. Wanted to post a pix here.

You can buy them online for about $45+ but I got all the stuff to make 2 for the same price. I think I may find a local craft fair and see what I can get for them :)

Ok, back to getting the house ready for lunacy :D

Cute diaper cake!~ I make pretty cute ones but I end up spending an arm and a leg to make them. If I was selling them I'd be more careful about the cost of the things I include in them. I've definately thought of selling them. Let me know if you do and how it goes over and everything.

Nikko'smommy- I am sorry that your DH is being such a butt. It seems like all our DHs take turns. I love the diaper cake! It's really cute... Is it weird that I have only seen them on CC? When my friends start having babies I'll have to figure out how to make those. (It's probably be a while).

I am so excited! We went to Kmart last night and they are having their big baby sale... I got the last chair and ottoman set in green ($80), the OW swing ($80), and the bin set ($30) I was looking for. It was just me and my mom and we didn't feel like lifting it up 3 flights of stairs so we put it on layaway and we'll have the DHs come and get it in the truck. Also that way I have more time to clean out the nursery and decide where things are going to go before it comes in and gets in my way! I can't believe that we have most of the big purchases out of the way, all the walls that need to be painted are done! It is coming so fast!!

Since I'm too articulate.. Here's a pic of the bin thing I was talking about except I remember the colors being more muted...
http://images.kmart.com/assets/images/product/large/9990000060631411.jpg

Plans for the weekend- Tonight I am getting my hair cut. I want it right above my shoulders and blend my bangs... I'm just getting so tired of them. The girl that sits next to my stylist has the cut I want so I can just point to her and say I want that!! Then DH and his boss volunteered me to work tomorrow at 5 am!! I figure that overtime can't hurt and it's easy stuff. Plus the guys in the warehouse are so much fun and they buy Starbucks!

Oh and I was so good last night! I did our taxes last night!! They are stamped and ready to go out today!

Has anyone been to the post office lately? They have these cute story book stamps in characters like Curious George, Fox in Socks, Maisy, Wild Thing and so on. I am thinking of getting them for my baby shower invitations or telling my mom to buy them out now. They are just so much cuter than the typical flowers or American flags.

Okay now I'm just rambling... You girls are so easy to talk to!

LIL Mrs:

GREAT deal you got on the OW swing!! USED ones around here are selling for that sort of money ($100 Canadian).

And those bins are fabulous for sorting toys. We keep ours in the living room to keep the main floor somewhat organized. We use it mostly for toys but reserve one small top one for some of his outside things -- mittens, sunglasses, touques, etc. just to keep them all in one place. LOVE these bins -- couldn't function without them! :)

Speaking of DH's... ~ Mine's not really a rant, as he's been exceptionally good (for the most part) but made me cry like a baby last night and not in a good way.

I had some problems with my license yesterday, which, while they were my fault, also weren't my fault (I didn't pay the ticket in a timely manner, but didn't know there was an additional charge either.)

So he had to come and pick me up from work and try to go sort out the mess. We found out that it would take 4 days before I could get my license back and he laid into me about it. How could I take their bullsh*t lying down, why didn't I want to go lay into someone, why don't you go and yell at the police, etc, etc, etc. I kept asking him who I should be talking to and what good would it make especially seeing as how none of these people could help my cause.

He made me feel very stupid and foolish and in my already PG emotional state and being stressed from everything yesterday, I just BROKE DOWN and sobbed in the car on the way home. I HATE crying in front of DH and really only do it when alone, but I just couldn't control it last night.

Of course he apologized and was nice to me the rest of the night (even let me pick what we were getting for dinner) but it still really upset me.

Having said that though, for the most part he's wonderful and has been a huge help in picking up the slack where I've left off (except for cleaning bathrooms and paying bills.)

MrsBrownie Thanks for reminding me that I didn't mention that Brian is 99.9% of the time wonderful, I feel like crap for venting now :o He really is a good husband but last night he was a grouch.

So my day so far is SUPER SHI^^Y!! I've been dizzy all morning and when I called Brian to ask him if he could come home early, he said he doesn't have any time left from when I was in the hosp, plus he has to save the rest for when the baby comes. So I'm here alone but managing.
Anyway, the dogs are outside playing and I make lunch for Niko. Before I sit down to feed us, I let the dogs in and my little one wreeks of poop :mad: She must have rolled in it and it was all over her :mad:
I put them back out, sit down and have a nice lunch with Niko and then put him down for his nap. I then clean out the bathroom and immediately give her a bath.
Do you know that that freggin little sh!t was growling at me cause she hates baths :mad: I wanted to kill her but I didn't. She is now banned to her kennel until Brian comes home. Luckily the big dog didn't do it either.

Now I'm exhausted and although I was going to work on the bathroom, I'm now going to take a nap, after I fold the laundry that is sitting on the bed. Hopefully this day won't get any worse.

THANKS for letting me vent again :rolleyes:

forgot to add: pooper scooping was my job until I got pg and I just can't stand the smell. Brian said he'd do it, but it never gets done so there is poop out there from Sept of last year. Very gross and that is why Niko doesn't play in the yard. Anyway, I made an appt with the Delaware Pooper Scoopers to come out and pick up all the poop. It will be between $50 & $75 and Brian is fighting me to spend that much, but I've had it. They are doing it and that's all there is to it.

Sorry ladies to hear about the "D"H's lapses of judgement.

It is somewhat comforting to hear that this stuff happens to others as well. We had a bad one this week as well. I thought I wouldn't be able to stop crying. But I have to admit though, that once we got past it, I love the exchanges that we have. We both take time to open up and share our feelings. It always makes us closer.

Nikosmommy ~ I can so relate to your day...if I didn't have bad luck (recently) I would have absolutely NO LUCK at all. It's just been one thing after another trying me and my patience (or my ablility to get out of bed and cope each morning.)

Izzy ~ Glad to hear it's not just me, I couldn't believe I broke down so much last night, but I just could not help it. But at the same time, the tears make him feel guilty, which is exactly what he needed last night...hehe!

We don't fight often and usually it's me initiating it (DH is not very confrontational and has never sworn or raised his voice at me) but about once every 6 months he LOSES it and we have a HUGE blow up. Once his anger is spent though, he's back to his old self and totally fogets what got him so upset in the first place.

DHs – they have their good days and their bad days. DH and I just had it out earlier this week. I wasn’t upset at anything he did or didn’t do to me. I just hate how he feels the need to support his parents. My parents are very independent and his mom is very dependant (his father is cool).

Here is my vent to add to today’s vents. It is a very long story.

DH’s is the oldest of 5. His youngest sisters are both developmentally disabled but at different levels. The youngest is the most challenged. The older of the two goes to adult day care (and it is FREE) now that she has graduated from high school. DH’s mom took the youngest out of high school and stays home with her. She won’t put her in adult day care because she says she is too much work, which is BS because the place is equipped to handle people in her daughter’s situation. Now DH’s mom is sick (colitis or something), they have no health care so she went to the Dominican Republic (where they were born) to see a doctor. This leaves his youngest sister with no one to watch her, so DH took off yesterday and today to go watch her (we live 2.5 hours away). Now, if his mom had no other resources, I would be okay with this. However, they have tons of family (mostly her husbands’ family) within a 10 mile radius, but since his mother doesn’t “like them” (she hold grudges) she won’t utilize them. So she would prefer that her son (my DH) drive 2.5 hours to watch his sister. I told DH to tell her to use the family or put her day care, DH feels obligated to go down there since she made sacrifices for him as a child. Of course his mom made sacrifices…she is the parent and that is what she is supposed to do. DH and I will talk about this again when he gets back tonight because I am still pissed about it. He needs to cut the umbilical cord.

He has done this before. I know he does this because he loves his mom..blah blah blah, but she has the resources there and chooses not to use them…that is not our fault. Just because she won’t utilize the family or the free daycare, doesn’t mean we should bend over backwards for her. She won’t even travel with his sister because she is too scared that something will happen to her. His sister tends to have seizures when she is not home, but everyone (except his mom) thinks that is because she never is anywhere but home. I know that once the baby is here she is going to be calling us laying on the guilt to get us to bring the baby to see her. Heck No. We will see her when we plan on going down there. If she wants to see the baby more often, then she needs to get in the car and come up here. I know I may sound cold, but she pisses me off with this BS and I don’t’ buy it. I’m not her child and I have absolutely no pity on her.

To make things worse... When she found out she was sick again (she has had it before), she sent $1000 (money they don’t have) to some woman in Venezuela for some witchcraft (brujeria) to make her better. Did she get any better??…of course not. Now, his mom is in severe pain, went to the ER and needs these drugs that are very expensive. She calls DH complaining about how she can’t afford the drugs and needs money. It seems to me that her priorities are in the wrong place. She got the meds somehow… DH says that he didn’t give her any money. I know he gave her money for her trip to DR and what is the first thing she did when she got down here…go give some woman her money for some brujeria. I told DH that if his mom comes back here asking for money for her medical bills that he better not give her a cent. If she got money to spend on brujeria then she got money for her medical bills.

End of the vent.

I vented to my father yesterday. He basically said that the parents are obligated to the child…not vice versa. He said that DH needs to sever that life line to his mother especially if it causes tension in our relationship. My fathers example was…if you and DH have a great relationship and then you invite a third party into your house. If things between you and DH get rocky then you need to kick that third party out, because they are causing to good.

On a good note, I found out today that a friend of ours is pregnant and due in August. Noah will have a playmate.

Graffy: I PM'd you. The blood pressure discussion ended up being pretty long. Let me know if you have any questions.

Weekend: My Dad's birthday is tomorrow and we're going to one of my favorite restaurants. Mia's excited about the cake and been practicing singing Happy Birthday. We may also paint Mia's big girl room. She wants it to be green. I picked up a ton of paint samples and will hopefully decide on something. Otherwise, DH is off, so we'll spend some time together:D .

Sorry about the DH's being buttheads!! Mine is also a member of the club sometimes!

pink Wouldn't it be nice if money was no object in decorating the nursery? I'm not sure if it would fit into your nursery, but I got this side table for beside my glider at Bed, Bath, and Beyond on clearance for $29.99 plus I had a 20% off coupon. The total price was like $24. I got the wood finish. It really is a nice, sturdy little table for the money. I'm very happy with it. For that price, I'm thinking of other places I might be able to use one, even if I have to spray-paint it a different finish.

lilmrsGreat deals at Kmart!!

ds2003 I know how you feel. DH's mom is ummmm, well, not very ambitious. When she does something dumb like not paying her taxes, or letting DH's loser brother run up a $600 phone bill, she wants her son, the human ATM to bail her out. Same with the loser brothers. They do the dumbest stuff, she wants DH to give them money and help them all the time. But they have tons of money for their cigarettes, piercings, and tattoos. It ticks me off to no end. I hate when people mooch. Especially when DH works his darn tail off and they bounce from job to job and work when they feel like it. Must be nice.

If I remember correctly, I think some of the girls have concerns with GTT. So they had mentioned replacing the cereal/OJ breakfast combo with something else.

GTT results
I just received a call from the nurse. My GTT was at 83 (under the 140 limit) and my Hemoglobin was at 11.6 (above the 11.0 desired). I am really happy that this is done. I think these were the last of the scheduled tests (as long as all goes well).

Now if I could only get comfortable on this chair... back is killing me!

Sorry DS2003- MIL likes to lay the pity games on us to. DH's mom called my cell phone less than a week after our honeymoon asking for money. I guess that was my welcome to the family. The thing that bothers me the most is that she will call me after DH tells her no or she will skip right pass him and call me directly and ask for money. I couldn't imagine my parents asking DH for money... If they were in a bind they would come to me not him!!

I can't believe that there are other people out there like my in-laws. What is wrong with people? Lilmrs, your honeymoon story reminded me of the month before our wedding when DH had to buy MIL a dress for the wedding $200, loan her money $350, and buy her a gift to give at the rehearsal dinner $150. $700 the month before our wedding, which we paid for ourselves!! We weren't exactly rolling money at the time. I was beyond pissed. Especially when she came to our wedding empty handed, not even a freakin' card. I swear to God, she came to her son's wedding without even a card.

I had a little panic this morning about getting things ready in time. What if it doesn't happen? I know the bathroom will be done, but what if we don't get the guest room in the basement done?

I knew it, I knew it :(

So we're sitting down to dinner and we start talking about the bathroom. He proceeds to tell me that he's going to only do the tiles around the shower this weekend. Um hello, what about the rest of the bathroom? Well he tells me that he's doing that next weekend. So that throws the basement back a weekend.

Patience, patience, patience. Breathe Lorraine, breathe.

MIL: It only gets worse:rolleyes: When your child becomes involved in all the games, it will anger you to no end. Just to warn you.
LilMrs: I think it's good to get it out. The boards are a great place to vent about those types of things.

shamocha: I think a few of us avoid OJ because of the sugar. I don't have gestational diabetes, but if I have too much sugar, especially in the morning, my blood pressure drops and I feel really bad for 20 minutes to an hour, until it comes back up. Not a nice feeling, and can sometimes progress to me getting so lightheaded that I black out. Better to avoid it.

further to today's discussion about our DH's....

I didn't respond b/c I didn't really have a vent.

But now I do.... I don't even know where to start. Except to say it involves mesetting up (and troubleshooting/spending hours on the phone with tech support) a new wireless network in our house.... And the fact that DH wouldn't accept that computer stuff is MY territory - so back off and don't start moving a perfectly working modem around the house to test it on other cable outlets UNTIL I'm able to fix the first problem at hand. Yet, this is the same man who still lacks some basic computer knowledge.

Confused?

yeah, well, let's just put it this way: DH is an aircraft mechanic (also very proficient in auto mechanics) by trade. And when he's in our garage troubleshooting an engine problem in our car, I don't start telling him "while you're on the floor wrenching around under the engine, why don't I try putting some oil in that thingy under the hood. I think that will solve the other problem that you're currently NOT working on."

What part of "Computer set up, maintenance and troubleshooting is MY domain and vehicle maintenance is YOUR domain" does he suddenly NOT understand???????

/vent.

lilmrs You are not going to hell! You need to get that stuff out or you'll go nuts! I can't believe your MIL did that at your wedding.:rolleyes: Looks like she slipped on her best shoes, too! LOL I swear, swear, swear to never be a difficult MIL!!

My photographer took pictures of my dad and I coming down the aisle from the front, then once we got past him, he took some of us from the back walking down to the altar. So, in the photos, you can see everyone turning back towards me, turning to look at the bride, like you're supposed to. EXCEPT MIL. You can totally see the whole back of her facing the front of the church. What was up with that? THEN, when we got to the hotel where we were having our reception, I had to pee. You remember what it was like to try to pee in that dress, right? So, I already had to pee in front of two of my bridesmaids that were helping me hold up my dress, which was bad enough. MIL wanted to ask me a question, and was standing there in the bathroom waiting, staring at me. OMG. Yes, I really want to pee in front of my MIL. Why the heck wouldn't she wait outside instead of standing in the bathroom staring at me trying to pee?

nikos Ugh. I know. It's so hard to be patient. How can they be soooo laidback about everything and never worry about being done in time?

My DH vent: I was so proud of him cause he was sooo gung-ho to paint the nursery. He told me that he was going to have it done by the end of Feb, before he starts a bunch of OT at work that will last all of March, when nothing will get done because he works 12 hour shifts and will only have one day a week off. HE volunteered that, I didn't ask him to. The week after we found out we were having a boy, he asked me ten times if I had picked the paint yet, cause he wanted to start. So I picked out the paint, which I think I would have picked something different if he wasn't rushing me:rolleyes:. Then I ask him when is he going to paint cause he only has two-three days off before the OT starts. And he says, "Oh, you know, I don't know when I'll get it done, because this day I want to go to Atlantic City, and this day I want to go skiing.":mad: :mad: It was like he never, ever said he would do it by the end of Feb. He was farting around on ordering the furniture, too. So finally, after me nagging him, he told me to let him paint the room first, so that he wouldn't have to paint around the furniture (which we were told by the store would probably be in stock, but could take 5-8 weeks to come in. DH only heard the IN STOCK part, so he's not worried). I can't order the furniture til he finishes the damn painting. I just don't get how they can just fart around like they do and never worry about things being ready in time. I am not a patient person. He drives me nuts.

jbenny-Thanks for posting that table. I think the wood finish may match perfectly. Or atleast give me ideas.

Nursery delimma-I have a two story house. The second story is not being lived in at the moment since it's just us. It needs to be thouroughly cleaned, painted, etc. and we just haven't had a need to live upstairs yet. I had a cute yellow room picked out as the nursery and the large room next to it picked out as our room and then at the other end of the hall is a guest room. If we moved upstairs we'd have to do a lot of painting, replacing ceiling fans, moving furniture upstairs, etc.

Downstairs we have what is currently our room (it's painted blue, perfect for a boy) and a large gameroom. We have a large couch in there and a large big screen tv that never gets watched. DH suggested selling the big screen, moving the couch to the LR (it needs new furniture anyway), laying carpet and painting and making the gameroom our room and the babies room the blue room. He doesn't seem to have much of a reason for wanting to do this so I don't know where we should make our room. Do you think it would be easier to just stay downstairs or do you think I should go upstairs and make use of it, abandoning two rooms downstairs? I'd really like to finish the downstairs before tackling the upstairs, we still need new countertups, a little painting done and new doors and eventually we will remodel the bathroom. Would it be easier for us to be on the first floor with a baby? Any opinions on what you would do?

You guys are seriously killing me with your stories, both of DH's and In-laws...I'm laughing my head off as I read these (only cause I can sympathize of course.)

Having said that, I must say that I have the most wonderful In-laws. I get along with them so well and they truly love me like I was there own daughter. They have always treated me so well, that I can't really say anything bad about them.

In the beginning of our relationship, DH had a problem determining which of us (his mother or me) were the priority. It took about 3 years before I became a priority and it wasn't until we got engaged that he snipped the apron strings.

But his parents, just like my parents, would do anything in their power to help us out. They've actually offered to buy the crib for us and from what I hear, MIL has bought hundreds of dollars worth of clothes and is storing them until we have someplace to put them (going to check on furniture delivery this morning.)

I'm sorry that you all have so many horror stories about your in-laws. It can't be fun to live with (I know, both my mom and MIL have only horror stories about their in-laws, our grandparents.)

I just had something really cool happen on the way home from dinner. My hubby was driving and I was in the passenger seat. As we passed through an intersection, a deafening horn blew so loudly that we both jumped in our seats and thought that a semi tractor was coming at us---it turns out that we were passing a firestation that had the most god awful horn and it waited until we were literally next to it to sound off.

Well, the baby woke up at the noise-and started kicking me,each time the horn blew . I started laughing so hard realizing that she heard it too. The more I laughed, the more she kicked. This went on for a minute or two.

We ended up buying our bedding tonight - We ended up only spending right at $60 but it was better than the $250 I was gonna spend on the flutterbye bedding set by kidsline. :)
http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/02/22/66/04/0002226604032_500X500.jpg
I got the comforter, bumper and crib sheet for right under $40 - dust ruffle for $11 (not pictured but it is pink & white), bought 1 package of border $8.96 I need 1 more but they only had 1 in stock. They were out of the mobile ($16.96) but we have several other stores close - hopefully one of them will have it.

I think this set will look sooo cute with white furniture & my new white & pink glider & ottoman.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far - I have almost thrown up twice today ... Stay away M/S , Stay AWAY!!!!!

Sunshine ~ Great set, I think it's so cute and will look great with white furniture...what a great deal.

Babylust ~ Glad to hear I'm not the only one with awesome in-laws (and parents too I might add) The only time I think I'm going to have trouble with everyone is making sure that everyone gets equal amount of time with the baby, no playing favourites...might cause some problems though, as they are all fighting about time (and babysitting) already. Luckily (and don't tell my mom I said this) but I trust my in-laws with our baby just as much as I trust my own parents. And DH has said that we are never leaving the baby overnight, so that's not going to be a problem...I wonder how he will feel after a few nights of midnight feeding.

Furniture ~ Went to check on our furniture today, it is supposed to be delivered to the store by middle of next week. We should be able to pick it up Wednesday or Thursday. The Glider (which matched perfectly to our colours ~ I picked it out without knowing) will be in the middle of March...so our nursery should be done and set up completely by the end of March. I'm so excited!

Weekend ~ DH and I were supposed to go skiing with my work today (I was going to read in the chalet all day) but we woke up not feeling like it and a major snow storm hit too. So we stayed in bed, then spent the WHOLE day together. We shopped for furniture, appliances, clothing (which DH got a ton of) and then went on a big grocery shop. We made dinner together and now are going to watch a movie. Not oftern that we spend ALL DAY together and I've really enjoyed it. I hope we can do it once or twice more before the baby comes.

Belly ~ DH keeps looking at my belly and smirking...telling me how big I'm getting. Yikes...I guess it kind of hits you all at once. I kept having to take my jacket off in the stores (hot flashes) and kept getting glances and smiles from people. Nobody asked outright, but I did notices the looks and actually made me feel good. You can't tell I'm PG with my winter coat on, but it sure seems to be apparent when it's off.

Okay...we're heading for a movie...have a great weekend everyone.

maryanne - that is cool.

belly - I saw my belly moving for the first time on Friday night. Noah was kicking away.

sunshine - I love the bedding.

I also have to agree that the DH and MIL stories are amusing.

Pink - I think it is a personal preference whether to use the 2nd floor. I know a friend you slept downstairs for her maternity leave since it was more convenient. She was formula feeding and the closer to the kitchen the better.

BTW - There is a November 2006 mommies thread open now. And one of my LJ buddies just found out she is pregnant and due the first week of Nov. Wow...we are almost there. We are within a few weeks of the 3rd trimester. Yippee!!!!

Hello All :D

Just a quick post...

This is the bathroom remodel from he!! :eek: It took Brian most of the day to get out the wall around the tub and the tub itself. Plus he's keeps finding that he needs stuff but doesn't have it, so it's another trip to Home Depot. Luckily they are only 5 minutes away.
Besides him chipping the brand new tub when he first put it in :eek: the hardest part has been Nikolas. He wants to help his daddy but we either have the baby gate up or the door closed to the bathroom so he whines or cries the whole time he's in there :( It was a challenge yesterday to say the least.
Brian took the tub back to Home Depot this morning and told them it was chipped when we took it out of the box. I know that is sneaky, but for the amount we spent with them last year getting the house ready to move in and the amount we're spending now and then for the basement, they can spare the $79 for the tub (all totaled close to $8K). Again, Niko cried the whole time he was gone.
Brian just had to run out again cause he needed something else so he took him with him to give me a small break. And now they are back so I must go.

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

Niko's-I can totally relate. My DS is obsessed with tools, ladders and construction. I literally have to leave the house with him, which is not always convenient, if I want DH to get anything done. And then I come home to find that hubby has started yet another project, in addition to the bedroom that needs to be done, "since I'm going to have the plasterer here anyway, I may as well rip out that wall and drywall our bedroom ceiling too"........DRIVES ME MAD!! My house is covered in plaster dust and I am a neat freak. I think moving would be easier.....:rolleyes:

I think the nesting instinct is kicking in...I had huge urges today to organize my pantry, master bedroom closet, my dresser, and armoire. I also tried to be patient with DH about the nursery, but started absolutely fereakin' this morning and finally let it all out. I have this insane need to have it done NOW and have the furniture ordered. I also started stressing about my baby shower....what if no one has one? What if its not that big? What if we don't get anything off of the registry that we need? My family doesn't live near a BRU. I can't count on DH's family for anything cause they have no $$. My friends are scattered all over in different places that we've lived and none of them know each other. I decided that I needed to start buying baby stuff bit by bit just in case. I even have an organized plan to work from the inside out: tshirts, onesies, socks, hats, sleepers, then I'm going to work bit by bit on the registry. I'm completely insane.

I feel bad cause DH is giving me the cold shoulder now, but he finished the painting.

Jbenny & Ruby-How sucky that things are going to slow for you guys re: the nursery and building/painting etc....hope your DH's get their act together sooner rather than later.

Sunshine-I love the bedding! It's really beautiful and girly! :)

I hit 25w today! That means only 3 weeks til the 3rd trimester and only 15 weeks "officially" to go!!! NUTS!

jbenny- I am having very similar concerns about my shower. my friends are all over the country, no one is going to fly to VA for a baby shower when they really want to come down to see the baby instead. my family is all over the world so I can't even really count on them. we are making small purchases little by little. I can always exchange for diapers if I get duplicates!

ds2003- congrats on seeing the baby move! that is so cool.

quick question about movement. . yesterday the baby was kicking my butt. all day and pretty consistenly. today- pretty much nothing. a few kicks here and there but nothing much at all. I push her around, drink OJ, eat sugar, blast the radio. nothing. anyone else have days on and days off with the movement?

jbenny75

Shoulda, I have found that Lucas moves around much more when I am at work and when I am laying on my side. There are times I don't feel anything for quite a while so I lay on my side and all of a sudden, there he is, kicking away! :) Maybe try noticing the times she is the most active (what you are doing, etc) and if you can't feel her for a while, try doing those things and see if it helps. Try not to worry! :)

thanks babylust! I'll give that a shot! she did start moving around quite a bit last night just as I was settling in for bed so I felt better. it's amazing how dependant on her activity I have become.

maryanne- great belly shot! and I love the 10 hours before conception photo. made me grin and that's hard to do this early in the morning!

pink converse- I had a friend with pneumonia while she was pregnant. actually pulled a muscle from coughing so much. her son is perfectly fine with no hearing issues at 21 months! I don't think you have anything to worry about!!!! But I can definitely understand the paranoia!

ds2003
02-27-2006, 06:58 AM
Pink – I’m sure the baby is fine. The loud noises the baby hears in utero are probably louder than you coughing. If coughing were a big deal, our doctors would caution us against coughing or sneezing or talking too loud. The book you are reading also says that occasional loud noises should be fine. I believe it even says that the occasional concert is okay.

Baby movement – I’m starting to see a pattern starting. So far, I notice that the baby is active about 3:00p and midnight. Other times are sporadic.

Weekend – it was pretty productive. I got more than a few loads of laundry done. I even started washing baby clothes. DH finished putting up blinds in the house. We had nothing at the windows in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom for almost 2 years. It didn’t bother us, but my parents insisted we cover them. The bedroom didn’t have blinds either, but they did have curtains. We went out for Indian food on Sunday…yum, yum. It was great although not spicy enough for me. It was a buffet, so the food is kept pretty mild.

DS-Yes, it did say an ocassional concert is fine, that's right. I am just being paranoid which I've tried really hard not to be :o ! Especially since when I first became pregnant our friend told us his co-worker that is deaf became deaf from his mother's coughing which at the time I said was such BS...until I saw that in the book and DH acts like it worries him thus feeding the flames.

I hope concerts are ok because DH's tickets to Dinosaur Jr. just came in last week and he wants to go for his birthday and wants me to come. I will be around 30 wks then and I don't know if I can stand there that long listening to loud music, tho I love Dinosaur Jr. and they never come to town. DH did say he read they play LOUD so I may have to skip it. I just hope he can find someone else to go or I will feel like I have to. He said he was going to call ahead of time and see if they place allows smoking and all that so I know what I'm getting myself into ;) .

I am all productive today! I got up and went to the grocery store and got back at 8:30 am (I'd usually be just waking up), sitting here on CC eating some breakfast and then I'm off to clean. I feel like nesting today! I didn't cough all night so I got a good night's sleep and I'm ready to get some things done around here. Baby is too, he's kicking me like crazy right now!

Hello All from Construction Central :D

Maryanne Your subtitle under your wedding picture tickled me, I thought it was really cute :p

movements: Niko used to go crazy for Janet Jackson. This one, nothing consistent yet. Just when mommy is trying to go to sleep :)

So at 10 p.m. last night I'm at WalMart picking up more supplies for Brian :/ He was up until midnight working but the bathroom still isn't done.
The tub is in, the hardibacker is up and grouted between the seams. If it was dry this morning he was going to take the day off of work to tile, but some of the seams needed more filler so he's going to let it sit until tomorrow to tile. He's taking the day off which is nice cause I have a dr's appt so I won't have to worry about entertaining Niko while I'm there.
There is dust EVERYWHERE in my house. And I love my husband for doing all of this, but why didn't he take the stuff out of the bathroom before he started on Sat? I had to get layers of dust off of everything last night, and on Sat had to buy new toothbrushes cause ours were brown from the dust.
So tomorrow is tile and then next weekend is the floor and new items will be installed.
There is an end in sight but then it's on to the basement :/

Pink- I read somewhere that in utero nopise levels is about equal to being on a jet landing strip. Think of all the other things that it is hearing with tiny ears from the inside... Two sets of heart beats, tummy growls and gurgle, and just hte functions of your body

Niko- Well atleast you got a bunch done. Sorry that it's a big mess. Construction is never tidy.

So DH totally pissed me off this weekend. I borrowed a book from the library about the Bradley Method and told him that I wanted to read it and look into and if I thought it was something that I found that fits us that I would want him to read and share thoughts. I really like the idea that the father is so involved and it seems like a real fit for us. Well DH is all for it until I tell him it is natural/non-drugs. He laughed in my face and told me that I couldn't do it naturally!! He told me that his sister and his friend's sister wanted to go natural and were yelling and screaming for the drugs. I asked him what method they used blah blah blah trying to show why it may not have worked for them. He will not even listen!! I was trying to tell him that they have exercercises and such to prepare you and then he started doing meditation noises and laughing. It really pisses me off that he has no faith in me!! I mean my mom had my brother naturally and I trust her genes and pain tolerance before I trust his sister's or a friend of a friend's!!

Good afternoon everyone...sounds like we were all busy this weekend and with so few posts, I believe it.

Shoulda ~ I can totally get your anxiety over baby movements. I get the most worried in the morning, as I always seem to end up on my tummy and he's very quiet, at least until I eat something. Glad to hear she was more active later on though.

Lil_Mrs ~ Quite a few of us had DH vents last week...join the club. I'm sorry that your DH was being insensitive. I have the opposite problem with my DH. I keep telling him I want the drugs and he's trying to encourage me to go without...I don't know how cool I am with that, but I appreciate his support at least.

Pink ~ Good for you on being productive. I feel so accomplished when I get things done, but then I look around the house and realize there's still so much to be done.

Nikosmommy ~ I'm glad that you are making some progress (or your DH is making progress) and that an end is in sight. Hopefully you have confidence in DH to get it all done before the baby arrives...just keep pushing...err encouraging him to get it done.

DS ~ I also managed to get a bunch of loads of laundry done this weekend, but that was about it in terms of house cleaning. I've also started washing baby things and have alot more to do. Our furniture should be in sometime this week and I think DH will have the room put together by the end of the weekend...can't wait to get everything organized.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, after my DH being such a bum last week, he totally made it up to me last night. Just after crawling into bed, he turned to me and told me how proud of me he was. He said eventhough he had given me such a hard time about spending and buying so much, that he was so proud and excited about how it was all coming together. That I had managed to get all these things for the baby, get the baby's room all prepared and organized (kind of), how the colours, bedding and furniture had all come together and that I still managed to keep the house in good shaped (kind of) just made him so proud of me. I was almost in tears as he said that to me, I told him how important and wonderful it was for me to hear that.
So, even though he can be a d*ck sometimes, he has these wonderful moments too.
And he's been wandering into the baby's room quite often, just looking at the paint and visualizing everything. He's getting very excited. He will have the whole room put together by this weekend (including furniture and the moulding) and we can start organizing by next week. He's also going to paint the hallways upstairs and downstairs while I'm out of town. I CAN'T WAIT!
maryanne i couldnt help but laugh at your caption with that wedding photo! what a cute photo btw.
speaking of movement, my little one is such a wiggle worm today :D i feel baby squirming all over the place! must be trying a new position or something! some days i feel barely any movement and other days there's tons. my doc said its normal and not to worry about it.
we started getting ready for the baby this w/end by organizing the house. we had to get a new computer desk. our office has to be downsized and we have to move the office and guest room together and then we can start painting the baby's room. i was so exhausted by last night but it felt great to get quite a bit done.
Hey girls!
Lil Mrs ~ Ignore your DH. You can definitely do NCB if you want. He will come around and be there to support you. You can definitely do it if you put your mind to it.
Nikos – glad to read the bathroom is coming along.
Lil_mrs – I hope your DH comes around. If you really want to deliver naturally and your DH is still on the fence, you may want to consider getting a doula to help you through the labor. A friend of ours didn’t take natural chilcbirth classes but had a doula and she successfully had a no-med birth. The support of someone (either mother, DH, doula) is very important. We start our Bradley Method class this Sunday. I’m am so excited.
MrsBrownie – what your husband said should be inspiration to all of our husbands. I hope everything comes together as hoped.
Baby’s room – DH’s father is supposed to be coming up this weekend to put up the crown molding in the baby’s room in the rest of the house. We are also thinking of starting to replace some interior doors with panel doors.
Hi, everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend.
Nikosmom, I'm sorry to hear the construction projects are stressing you out, but it sounds like your DH is making some good progress! (I would have been so ticked about the dirty/dusty toothbrushes. Use your head, man!) :rolleyes:
Shaq: Great belly shot. I see some definite growth!
Lilmrs: I'm sorry your DH was so negative about natural childbirth, but I agree with what someone said to you in the July thread--his lack of support is probably because he doesn't know much about childbirth! I have faith in you though. Keep researching and share what you learn with your DH. He'll come around.
As for my weekend, it was pretty lazy for the most part. I stayed home on Friday night (after running to the mall and then the grocery store) while DH went out in the city. I just didn't feel like dragging myself downtown to sit in a bar. It was nice sitting around doing laundry and reading. Plus, DH didn't stay out very late so we had a chance to spend time together that night anyway. We ran errands early on Saturday, went to lunch, and then came home so DH could work on some house projects. I think he has hit the nesting phase. He put together a spreadsheet of all the house projects and categorized them by priority. He checked three things off his list this weekend! We went out to dinner that night with DH's best friend. It was good but I think I'm losing my appetite a little. (It's a nice break from the constant hunger I had last week.) After cleaning up the house on Sunday morning, DH and I put in some quality time at Barnes & Noble. I picked up the Baby Name Wizard book and really like it! For those of you who are still looking for names, I highly recommend this book. (My DH did say that if I read this entire book and we go with the names we are already considering, he is going to kick my butt!) :p After the book store, we met a few friends for a very late lunch and then stopped at Babystyle. I'm sorry. But there is no way I'm spending $78 for a white shirt. Ridiculous.
That's about all I have to report. I continue to feel the baby kicking away and even saw my belly mooovvveee this weekend. Crazy stuff.
I took some belly shots and will try to post those soon. Take care, everyone!
Thanks ladies...makes me feel really good to hear those kinds of things (from you and DH.)
I'm feeling pretty organized and so excited to get everything done. I can't wait to be able to walk into my baby's room and know that it's all there, waiting just for him.
Speaking of...has anyone thought about when they are going to leave work. I was going to try really hard to stay until the last possible minute (I can't work past May 30th) but now that I'm thinking about it and know that my boss is going to hire someone for my mat leave...why stay. I'm thinking of using about 2 weeks vacation time and leaving mid May. Something to think about anyways!
Maternity leave-MrsBrownie, you are lucky enough to have that extra long maternity leave living in Canada. I am only eligible for 12 weeks so I would like to use up every precious day for when the little one actually comes if possible. With my first, I was induced in the evening, so I actually worked during that same day (just to keep my mind off of the upcoming labor). Everyone kept saying to me, "aren't you having a baby today?". I don't blame you for wanting to take the 2 weeks before, I would if I could....
Maternity leave ~ I'd like to work until I go into labor. Last time my OB had me quit working 1.5 weeks before my due date since my BP was elevated (didn't have pre-eclampsia). She stripped my membranes the same day (it was a Thursday afternoon) and DS was born on Sunday. So I basically had 2 days of no work before he was born. Since I only get 12 weeks (not all paid) I'm going to tough it out as long as possible. Hopefully my water doesn't break at work though...
Maternity Leave: I get 12 weeks as well and my last day is scheduled for May 31. Hopefully nothing goes wrong, but for now, I want to take the week before off so I can make sure everything is ready and have some time to relax and catch up on my sleep! :D
1 hr GTT question: My dr did not say anything about fasting before my GTT... yet I have heard everyone talking about it. Is this something I need to do? My test is at 8:30am so I won't eat breakfast, but I usually have a little snack before bed... Or should I just call the lab tomorrow and ask? What is the norm?
Just got my head bitten off....
Hi :/
Brian had to go to Home Depot to get something else and I asked if he needed anything else like plumbers tape and he snapped at me. I just didn't want him to get home and see that he didn't have enough cause he's going to need it.
I am really hating life right now. I just don't want him or I to have to go looking for stuff again at 10 at night :/
Plus I dropped off my car for all day service tomorrow and now he tells me he's going into work cause the spackle won't be dry by tomorrow and he can't tile. That wouldn't be so bad except I'll have to drive him and it's 50 minutes one way and he needs to be there between 7:30 and 8. Plus I have a dr's appt tomorrow mid day. And of course pick him up tomorrow night and then go get my car.
Can we say bad Tuesday?
It's just going to be a llllllooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg day :/
Thanks for letting me vent, again.
Nikosmommy ~ Vent away...if you can't vent to us, who can you vent to...meaning, it's so much easier to complain to people who don't know you IRL, but can completely sympathize with you, rather than going to people IRL.
Maternity Leave ~ Sorry for posting the question...I sometimes forget that up here, we get a much longer maternity leave than you do (one of our only bonuses about being up here.) I really wanted to work right up until my due date, but my whole department is away at a conference (which I clearly can't go to, as it's in LA) and I figure if there is going to be someone replacing me, why tough it out at work being uncomfortable and bored, when I can do those things at home.
Plus, I think I will have the opportunity, through a couple of special projects, to make up the vacation time at the end...DH thinks it's best if I plan to leave a little earlier and now I'm starting to agree with him. I just don't know if I can plan to sit around for 2+ weeks waiting for baby to arrive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, we went out to Zeller's tonight and I finally got my baskets. Now I just have to wash the liners and I can start to organize the bath and diaper stuff in them.

Also, we went and looked at freezers...DH is going to go tomorrow and buy a new deep freeze for us. Now I can make some meals and freeze them before baby arrives, plus it means we can buy more bulk stuff and stock up.

Okay, off for a bath and bed...DH is giving me my rub-down (DH's pitiful, yet wonderful version of a back massage...with one hand.) But even that feels like heaven these days.

maternity leave --

My last day is March 31. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind. I'd wanted to work until May 1, but it just worked out this way.

I am on contract here and my actual original contract ended last Tuesday. Since October, we've been going through a major re-org in our company, involving many early retirement packages, "you're fired" packages...and the reduction in the reliance on contractors (i.e. My status as a contractor left me on very unstable ground anyway). All depts are expected to complete their cuts by March 31, and my position will be eliminated after that day. I was supposed to be gone Feb.15, but my new boss who was brought in a week before I went to Hawaii (who replaced my old boss who was given a "you're fired" back in December) has been on vacation ever since *I* came back to work 3 weeks ago. Thus, she (new boss) was able to successfully convince our VP that I was needed to stick around for as long as they could have me stick around.

I'm happy about that. I didn't want to be working past April 30th anyway, so March 31 is a pretty decent extension.

AND, I'm going to see if my OB will give me a Dr's certificate at the end of March stating that I can't work even though I'm available for work... I think I've got a pretty good chance at getting that. That way, I could hopefully qualify for EI Sickness benefits for the weeks until Dawson arrives. That way, my income (though it would drop by almost half) would be bridged until Dawson is here and I can begin collecting regular Maternity and Parental EI benefits and still qualify for the whole 50 weeks after he's born.

One thing I do regret from when I had Connor is my job that time was scheduled to end a few days before my due date, but then he ended up coming so early and I had to quit my job sooner than expected. He came on Saturday morning. I'd worked all day Friday and was at a fundraiser dinner that night. I never did get just a few days of no-work-stress at home.... no real time to put my feet up and not feel guilty about it.

So this time, I'll be spending all of April/May/June, until whenever Dawson shows up, doing lots of stuff that I normally don't have much time for:
-relaxing
-nesting (I *will* still have Connor in child care a couple times/week so that I can have time to myself to do this stuff!)
-card making
-taking Connor on little field trips (pool, library, zoo, science centre, "train" ride to go downtown just for fun, etc.)

lol...sorry, long winded answer, I know! :)

good morning everyone!

maternity leave- I plan on taking the full 12 weeks. I get paid for the majority of them so I figure why not take advantage. I would like to work up until my due dates assuming the doctor is okay with that. DH will be studying for the bar this summer so all of his income while working part time in school is out the window. we are going to need the money. did I mention that DH is graduating 30 days before I'm due and then take the bar exam 30 days after? it's going to be a crazy summer!

1 hr GTT question: My dr did not say anything about fasting before my GTT... yet I have heard everyone talking about it. Is this something I need to do? My test is at 8:30am so I won't eat breakfast, but I usually have a little snack before bed... Or should I just call the lab tomorrow and ask? What is the norm?

babylust- my GTT test in next month at 8:50 in the morning. I was told that I can't have anything past midnight other than water. so I think your bedtime snack would be okay. might be worth a phone call though as I don't think anyone wants to fail that test by a technicality.

I have an appointment this afternoon. . hoping she will let me see the baby just for additional reassurance. I think women should be built with a window to the uterus.. . would make all of this so much easier!

GTT: I was told to eat prior. I have problems with my blood pressure dropping if I eat something that has a lot of sugar in it. The doc said to definately eat something prior to coming in so I wasn't miserable. She said it shouldn't affect the results.

Maternity leave: I'll work until I go into labor. I'm taking 8 weeks this time around (only took 6 last time and it wasn't nearly enough). I don't want to waste any of that time off prior to the baby being born.

I have my follow up ultrasound today. I won't find anything out until my doc appt next week, but keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully the kidney will be back to a normal size. I know the cord problem won't go away, but one problem is better than two to deal with.

Question: What week of pregnancy are you having your GTT? I was mailed a script after my last appt from the receptionist saying she forgot to give it to me. However, I know I didn't have it done this early last time around. I think I was closer to 26 weeks or so, but can't remember.

maternity leave: I'm not going on maternity leave (officially) until after the baby is born, but I may start working from home the last couple of weeks before my due date. A lot of my co-workers have gone this route, especially those who have substantial commutes.

I haven't scheduled my GTT yet, but I have an appointment tomorrow night and assume the doc will bring it up then.

Here's my belly shots. Its been almost four weeks since the last one I posted and my have I grown!

Hey ladies!

Great photos!!! AMUPRHY look how tiny and cute you look... Jbenny your belly reminds me of mine.... :)

maternity leave: I am guarranted 6 months here.. BUT only get paid for 3 which is fine. I was going to work up until my due date but we have some wacky policy here that they give you 5 sick days before your maternity leave starts.. but if you do not take them you loose them and cannot tack them onto your maternity leave. So use them or lose them... so I figure my last day here will be June 1st as well.. and will have to come back Dec. 1st.

Leg swelling: I am officially in this group.. I have been wearing support stockings under my pants because my ankles and calves get so big if I do not and becomes uncomfortable... I have been drinking a TON of water and also getting up from my desk and walking around... In addition to the 5 million pillows I have under my head, under my belly I now have one under my feet:rolleyes: I guess it could be worse ...

GTT:

Haven't scheduled mine yet (I just have to show up at a blood lab with a requisition form), but I assume I'll be getting the req. form next week Thursday at my OB appt. And I assume she'll tell me to go in my 28th week, which will be the last week of March.

Swelling:

so far, not bad. Occasionally my ankles are swelling a bit (Doesn't bother me during the day but I can see it when I take my socks off at night), but it hasn't been too bad at all. Hoping my swelling is contained to my ankles again -- Last time 'round I didn't get swelling anywhere else.

.... New problem for me right now is that the "girls" are getting huge and HEAVY. And that's becoming a problem at night, sleeping on my side. My arm on the bottom gets squished and looses circulation. So, I have to flip around (these are fast becoming 85-point turns!) and then I encounter the same problem on the other side. Oh, the joys of PG! :)

lovely bellies amurphy and jbenny - u guys are tiny!!!

GTT i'll be 27w 3d when i have mine. and my doc didnt mention anything about not eating prior to it. i'm also having an ultrasound then.

i've had back pain twice in the past week and its not so fun:( i stood under the shower for a little bit and let the hot water massage my back and that helped tremendously. sunday night i had a rough time sleeping and i woke up so tired.

good news: i did have a wonderful jog outside yday so that made me feel much better. i've been using a brace when i exercise and my doc says since i'm small my belly is basically gonna just grow out so he wants me to start wearing the brace more regular when i really pop out so it will give my back more support and ease the backaches.

bad news: i think i'm getting a cold. my throat aches and i've been coughing on and off. its going around here and i'm trying to keep myself away from these germs but so far not so good. anyone had a cold already? what did u take for it? i'm not very good with meds but i dont want to be sick or get worse so i'll take whatever i can.

lastly - this is the pattern that dh and i are seriously considering for baby's nursery (we have a few choices but we seem to go back to this one alot)

Great belly shots from jbenny and amurphy! You both look great!

GTT ~ My appt. is at 8am and I was told only black coffee or water 2 hours before the test. When I was pg with DS I nearly passed out after having my blood drawn because my blood sugar was so low. I definitely suggest bringing a snack to eat afterwards.

Swelling ~ None yet for me. I had quite a bit of swelling with DS, but just a tiny bit in my hands first thing in the AM this time. I'm hoping it stays away because it was terrible.

Hello all :/

I'm sitting here in tears. I am so overwhelmed right now with this remodel that it's getting to me. Our house was never spotless, but right now it's a mess. There is dust everywhere and my vacuum broke yesterday :( We're having it repaired cause it's cheaper than buying a new one, but it won't be done until Friday. I have to wait for my neighbor to get home after 5 to borrow hers, but until then, my floors are driving me insane. We have a little hand held vac, but I tried that it really doesn't pick up all that well :/
We got the new hardware for the shower and Brian had to take down half of the backerboard to put in the new piece that goes behind it. So that was a chore last night, more dust.
We decided this morning that he's going to take down the backerboard that's on the side of the window cause it isn't flush with the edge of the window and the tile would be on a slant. It would look like the window is popping out at you.
But Brian's back and hands are in so much pain that he doesn't want to tackle it until Friday. He's going to put up plastic so we can take showers (which I haven't since Friday - I've been washing up in the sink - thank heavens it's not hot out, I'd have a funk) and work on it this weekend. That in turn will put finishing the rest of it until next week/weekend. Which in turn will push back the basement.
So like I said, I'm overwhelmed and in tears. I called my sister and she let me go on and on. She feels bad that there is no family here for Niko and I stay with. I'm not sure if I'd even do that. Even though my house is a mess, it's still the place I'm most comfortable. I don't think I'd be so upset if I could vacuum up the dirt. If I sweep, I'd just be pushing it around.
I didn't take Brian to work cause I just didn't feel like doing all that driving. I called my dr's office and fibbed and told them the car wouldn't start so they rescheduled me until next Tues at 2:45.
And on top of it all, Brian asks me this morning to do laundry cause it's piling up. Um hello, the basket is barely full. I'm going to do it, but ask for the real reason, he's out of work clothes and even though they'll get dirty again, he doesn't want to put dirty ones on.
Ok, thanks for letting me vent, yet agagin. These hormones are killing me right now. I just have to remember there is an end in sight.

anyone else out there having issues with shower planning??? my friends are located in 3 central places- VA, NC and TX. all three groups want to throw showers for me. the problem is that it's just not working out. I don't have a large group of friends in VA so was thinking that the NC friends could come up here as it's only a 3 hour drive. but the NC crowd wants to throw one too and there would only be 5 people at that shower. and with the TX one, that would be a great party but DH really doesn't want me to fly (2 miscarriges have scared the crap out of him) and if I went against his wishes and something happened I would never forgive myself. then the VA shower is being thrown by my closest friend here who is in a huge disagreement (okay, they hate each other) with my other closest friend and is refusing to invite her. so much drama for what is supposed to be a happy occassion. I feel like telling them all to forget it. . I would rather buy the baby stuff myself!!! I hate to tell anyone No but this is ridiculous!!!

okay. . thanks for letting me vent. I think DH would strangle me if I talked to him about it again!

Maternity leave – I plan to work until either I go into labor or the doctor insists that I stop. Right now I plan on taking 10weeks (all paid – sick time and vacation). Anytime I take off before that eats away at my sick time. If I run out of enough sick time to cover the 6 weeks of regular leave, then I go on to short term disability. I will have the option to do some work from home before and after maternity leave. I have enough sick time to go out a few days early. My mom will be here for about a month and a half after I return to work so Noah most likely won’t enter daycare until around 4 months.

1 hour glucose test – I’ve heard many different requirements. Call and ask your doctor. I’m having mine at 28 weeks. I’ll get the info at my next appt at 26 weeks.

Great belly shots.

Shaqangel – I like the print.

Still feeling fine. I ache a little now and then, but I find that stretching at night and in the morning really helps. I need to start doing prenatal yoga again. I’ve slacked off. Child birthing classes start this
Sunday. I believe the class requires exercises during the week. This should force me to stay on top of it.

Shoulda – If you really want to fly to TX maybe you and DH should have a talk with your doctor about the risk of flying. Maybe the doc can ease his mind.

Shower – so far I’ve heard no rumbles. I expect to have one in MD (my parents), NJ (in-laws) and maybe CT (where we currently live). I don’t know for sure. Since we have to travel for the showers, they can’t be a surprise. I really hope to have them in April or Early May, but I’ll take what I get.

Hello all :/

I'm sitting here in tears.

So sorry to hear about the pains of the remodel. Sounds like you did the right thing rescheduling the appointment. I know that long drives can be such a PITA, but it sounds like it might actually be a good thing for you today. It's an opportunity to get out of the house and not have to see the mess and dust for a few hours. Any chance you can make the outing a little more enjoyable by stopping to grab a treat for yourself (ex: latte, ice cream, etc)? Hope the day gets better.

Great belly shots everyone!

GTT I had mine done at 24 weeks. I've read that it's recommended to get it between 24-28 weeks. I did the one hour GTT. The doc said to eat before so I wouldn't feel too lousy. However the instructions said no food within two hours. I had a very small breakfast 1 hour prior to drinking (ie 2 hours prior to blood draw). No way I was waking up 1 hour earlier to eat. My result came back good with an 83 (the upper limit is 140).

Maternity Leave I've already submitted my paperwork for the benefits. My plan says that I cover the first 5 days with vacation time (or unpaid), benefits cover 5 weeks at full salary. I can go up to 12 weeks but anything after the 5 weeks is vacation or unpaid. I'll have 2 weeks of vacation and I'll take 3 weeks unpaid. Total I'll be out ~10 weeks. I am hoping to work until I deliver.

Shower As far as I know, I'm not having one. My friends all keep saying not to buy anything until my shower but I think they all assume that someone else will be organizing it. So far I don't think anyone is planning anything. :(

Great belly shots amurphy and Jbenny! Reminds me, I have one to post soon too...

shoulda - What a PITA! If only the VA and NC folks could convene in one place, that would solve all your problems. As for flying to TX, I would also have a discussion with your doctor. Mine gave me the OK to travel up till 32-34 weeks, barring any complications. If it makes your DH feel better, you could always get in contact with a doctor in TX just in case? Can he come with you to TX and maybe golf or something during the shower?

shaq - Cold? Unfortunately, yes. I'm just getting over my second. Luckily they've both been pretty mild. I used Breathe Right strips at night to help me breathe. As for meds, check with your doctor. Mine gave the green light for Robitussin DM for chest congestion, and then benadryl/sudafed for nasal congestion. I was a bit leary about the benadryl/sudafed thing, so I only took it once when I had a really hard time sleeping. Probably the best thing is rest and liquids, and making sure your DH pampers you!

Niko's - I'm sorry to hear how frustrating this remodel is for you. I can totally relate, as I had a major meltdown yesterday as well. We just moved in to a new house, and I've been the one getting everything done. Well, the 2nd fridge (yes, 2nd one) didn't fit in the space when they came to install it yesterday for the 4th time. And I lost it. I know how unsettling and upsetting it can be to have your home in disarray, yet feel like there's nothing you can do about it. I would try to get out on a walk today or something to get you out of the house.

swelling - none yet (knock on wood), although some mornings my feet feel huge.

Maternity leave - I have no idea what I'm doing yet, since I'm starting a new part-time job today (yay!). I think it's a pretty casual environment (this is NOT a career job, just something to bring in extra cash until the baby comes), and I think it's just up to me as to how long I take off (all unpaid I'm sure) after the baby is born. I'm just going to wait and see. Ideally I wouldn't return, but instead would try to get a job that relates to my field in the fall.

GTT - I have mine scheduled at [color=red]my next appointment on March 29th[/b], when I'll also have a follow-up ultrasound to check for placenta previa. The office told me that I could eat beforehand, but NOTHING with sugar in it, so something like an egg. I have to check, but I don't recall there being a time limit as to when I needed to stop eating. Right now my appt is scheduled for 4pm, but I may drink the stuff in the morning and go in to get bloddwork drawn, then come back for the u/s.

Shower - My friends in NYC are throwing one for me in April. I got in a huge fight with DH about this last night - it was supposed to be a couples shower, and I was really looking forward to him being there to celebrate our baby. But he just keeps coming up with reasons why he shouldn't go, so I finally let him off the hook. Then had to to back to the shower organizer and tell her to take off all the other husbands from the guest list. I'm disappointed, sure. I'm nervous to travel by myself, but also was really looking forward to visiting NYC with DH, having him there to share in the excitement. But I'd rather go by myself than drag him there when he feels totally uncomfortable.

As for me, things are going well, no complaints! We had an appointment last Friday with my OB and everything is checking out fine. I'm so surprised at how happy we both are with this new OB. It really is a relief. We also signed up for childbirth classes (DH travels too much, so we're doing a weekend crash-course in May), a baby safety class, and a breastfeeding class. I can't believe this is ACTUALLY going to happen!

Happy Tuesday everyone :)

Maternity Leave: My company provides 18.5 weeks for maternity leave. That includes 4 weeks prior to the baby being born. Most of the 18.5 weeks are at full pay, but some of it will be at 60% pay (SDI). In addition, I will use another 3 weeks vacation I have on the books after the 18.5 weeks. I plan to take a total of 6 months off June-January, as, my company allows for 6 months unpaid after your paid leave runs out. My last day of work will either be May 31st or June 2nd.

I was really thinking of leaving my company in the Fall but because the ML benefits are so good, I decided to stay.

Swelling: My fingers have been swelling since I was 18wks. I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring since then. My feet and ankles have been swelling since 20wks. By the end of the day,I can major cankles!! It is so not pretty!

Showers: A very close family friend is hosting a shower for me May 20th. I am excited! Another one of my mom's friends wants to host a shower for me in April. I feel bad for having 2..........

I have a Name Question for you ladies. I need your honest opinion please:

DH and I have narrowed our list down to 3 names: Charles Patrick (but we'd call him Charlie), Owen Patrick, or Henry Charles (or Henry Patrick.) I was stuck on the name Charlie and DH was stuck on Owen. Over the weekend the name Henry came to mind. Is Henry too "old" of a name? For some reason, I am really loving it these past few days. What do you all think?

TIA!
:D

ruby

Stevie-I really like Owen the best because it's the least common. I work in a Pedi office and we do have alot of Henry's so I no longer think of it as an "old" name because there are all these cute little Henry's running around!

Names-DH and I are leaning toward Chase Riley these days.....:)

Hey everyone!

Nikosmommy ~ I'm so sorry you are going through this...the last thing you need is more stress on top of what you have already been through. Hopefully you can take some time for yourself and re-group.

Jbenny, Amurphy and Shaq ~ Great belly shots. I haven't taken any recently, but think I might tonight as I'm 27 weeks today.

Showers ~ I have never had any incling about a shower...mind you I accidently found out about my wedding shower, when I wasn't expecting one. My sister mentioned to me that she would like to plan a shower for me for after the baby is born (this is what we did for her) and since I have all the essentials, I'm not to worried about it. Who knows....at this point, I'm not too concerned about it and if I don't end up having a shower, no big deal.

Swelling ~ Can't remember who mentioned the Cankels...but I'm suffering from them big time too. I wear boots all day and I think it helps. I don't notice too much swelling until I pull my socks off at night and see the indents in my legs. Plus, I had to stop wearing my wedding and engagement ring last week. Luckily, I purchased a cheap (but surpisingly real looking) replacement last week and it will do for now.

Cold ~ I had an awful cold a couple weeks ago that I still feel I'm not quite over. I was told I could use Benadryl for nasal congestion (which I'm also using for allergies) but it knocks me out. I could also you Benylin for cough and lung congestion. I was also using Otrivin (nasal spray) to clear my nose...but other than that, I don't think there's much.

GTT ~ I just have to show up at a lab to get the test done. I was planning to do it Friday morning, but plans have to change. I think I will go on Monday to get it done. Haven't heard anything about fasting though, will have to make a call to find out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must admit that I've started to feel awfully uncomfortable the last few days. I have been heading to the bath as a refuge from the feeling, but last night it was no help. I find even in the bath I'm uncomfortable....I can't lie down as I feel like I'm suffocating, and sitting up hurts my back...UGGHH, it was my only safe haven lately.
Today I'm just feeling huge and the baby is doing a number on my bladder today....so I keep lumbering to the bathroom. Not a pretty sight...but I know I'm only going to keep getting bigger, so not much that can be done.
I'm heading to the dentist to get my tooth fixed and then heading home, can't be bothered to come back to work. I think I will plan a nice long nap and then back to organizing and washing all the baby's things. Even TV isn't holding any appeal to me lately...and that's a bad sign!
Meant to mention...
According to my May 30th due date (kind of enjoying this double due date thing) I'm 27 WEEKS TODAY!
That means that I'm officially in the 3rd Trimester. I'm so thrilled to have made it this far and to be honest, I'm breathing a little sigh *knock wood* of relief.
Just wanted to share
mrsbrownie i can relate to the bladder situation :( baby has been pushing against my bladder too and i have to keep running to the bathroom. thank goodness its close to my office.
congrats on the 3rd trimester....gosh where is the time going.
showers this is frustrating for me too - i know we're having at least 3 (work, church, friends). but no one has given us dates yet, i know work wont be a surprise and neither will church but the friends one i am iffy. the thing is my BF and DH work at the same place and their boss wants to do a shower as well, so i am confused as to whether its going to be a work shower or a friends shower. and i certainly dont want to ask or assume which it is. then on the other hand i've had friends tell me to pls make they are on the invite list for the shower....i'm not planning it so how can i do that :rolleyes:
swelling none yet....had some mild swelling when i was home for christmas but i attribute that to all the walking/hiking/traveling we did. i try to keep my feet up every night so hopefully that helps.
gina & mrsbrownie thanks for the cold info...i'm having a lot of halls to soothe my throat but i dont feel as great. having a hard time eating or drinking anything and i know thats not good.
stevie i really like owen. henry is nice as well but owen is my fave. not a big fan of charlie. have u thought about owen charles?
Looks like Owen and Henry are the front runners.
shamocha17 I was concerned about my blood sugar levels, because I have been feeling funny. People have told me to cut down on the OJ or water it down. Seems to be helping.
Shouldaeloped Some days I just don't feel much movement, but I find that those are the days were I am super busy and moving around myself alot.
Steviem I like Charles Patrick.
GTT I have heard that it is done between 26-28weeks.
~~~~~~~~~

I called my Dr. about the way I have been feeling lately and talked to a nurse. She said it is farily common and that it sounds like I am one of those people that just need to snack all day. Pretty much eat every hour. Totally makes sense to me. So I am trying that and it seems to help some.

I cleaned out my baby's room today! Vacuumed the carpets, the windowsills, got out all the things we were storing in there (except in the closet), hung up his little clothes (hee hee :D ) and just kind of went thru and saw what we had bought already which was not much. I feel like I've accomplished a little bit anyway. That damn Enfamil email I got today saying I was in my 6th month got my butt in gear!

Diapers-I've bought like 4 packs of 1's, (2) of 2's and (2) of 3's. Should I go ahead and pick up like 1 pack of newborn's in case he's small? Should I stock up on more 1's or just wait until he gets here and we see how we are going thru them? I guess I could buy some wipes too.

Clothes-Do you all have a set list of clothes (incl. socks and bibs) you think your baby needs to start out with including quantities/sizes? I'm sure it's in one of my books but what are you all doing? I feel so clueless sometimes but I've never done this before ;) !

stevie-I like Owen Patrick and Henry Charles.

Pink_Converse Wow, you are in prep mode!

Diapers So far I only have the ~75 newborn diapers that my sis gave me. They were her leftovers when my niece went to the next size. Though my sister said you can return unopened packages.

Clothes Well, I didn't go by a specific list, but more by what people have told me. So basically you don't need any cute outfits (they are often received as gifts) because baby will mostly likely be in pyjama's all day (sorry I have yet to learn the "technical" terms for baby attire. :)

I have been shopping, received some things and hand-me-down's from sis. I figure if I have about 6 onesies of each size, 2-4 footed pyjama's, 2 hats, few socks, I'll be ok to get started. You never know what size the baby will take from the beginning. I have stuff ranging from newborn to 12-months. The tough thing is trying to plan what size will be needed for winter. I've already noticed a HUGE difference is size between brands (ex: Carter is tiny compared to Gap sizes).

I ran out of hangers, but here's what I have for her so far (sorted by size from left to right). (nevermind the adult clothes in there that I need to get rid of)

Thanks for the info on the I hr GTT ladies! Seems there are many different opinions out there.. I didn't get a chance to call but a co-worker friend of mine has the same dr and when she had her test 1 year ago, she had a bowl of cereal before the test and she said it didn't make a difference. So I might just grab a cereal bar on my way out the door... or something. I don't know. I am 25w 6d and my dr said the glucose test is normally done between 24 and 28 weeks.

Stevie, I like Owen Patrick the best.

Niko's Mommy, Just wanted to send you tons of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}! I'm sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed! You need to treat yourself to a spa day or something!!

Kelly, Congrats on officially choosing a name!! I LOVE IT!!! :D

I can't believe how close we all are! Entering the 3rd trimester and surviving everything! :) Wow!

Fun Question: Has anyone chosen a coming home outfit yet?

I think we decided on this one:

http://images.snapfish.com/34644346%3B%7Ffp336%3Enu%3D326%3B%3E6%3A%3B%3E%3B6 5%3EWSNRCG%3D32334633%3A6%3A3%3Bnu0mrj

It says "Hello little bee... Do you like honey?" I fell in love with it because we have this bee theme going on and it was perfect! It is so soft and feels so comfy and seems to be car seat friendly. :) I'd love to see any that you all have picked out! :D

coming home outfit:
we got ours early January when we were home in South Africa. i need to take a photo of it. but its a simple white with grey lining onesy and it says something like 'little friends'. its got short sleeves and its definitely a summer outfit. i chose a neutral colour cos i would like to use that same outfit for future babies too. my mum wanted a hat and little booties to go with it so we got those too:) and she has my baby blanket and we might use that unless she finds something else or makes something.

names: we are still not any closer :( dh & I can not agree on a 1st name. Middle Name is still Hope.

Coming home outfit: Haven't even really thought about it. If dh had his way it would be something blue or that looked boyish. lol

diapers: everytime I go to walmart or target I pick up a pack. we have about 5 or 6 packs now. I need to start getting some wipes also. my friend suggested picking up diapers that way you have some stored & when the baby is here you should have some saved up for a month or two.

stevie: I like the names Owen Charles or Owen Patrick

Coming home outfit...

Depends on Dawson's size. If he's a little bitty thing like his brother (born 5 lbs 6 oz...and released at 15 days still under 6 lbs), he'll likely wear one of these two outfits:

First one was Connor's going home outfit...it was one of only two sleepers that we had that actually fit him at the time!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/knmerrick/4-13b.jpg

(oh dear...look how TINY he was in comparison to daddy...I can hardly believe it!):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/knmerrick/4-13a.jpg

OR this one... which is my favourite sleeper of all time. It also has a little cap... and is size "newborn up to 8 lbs" Connor couldn't even START wearing it until he was over a month old!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/knmerrick/DCP_0837.jpg

.... of course, if I go full term, Dawson might be in the 10 lb range (as Connor was predicted to be had he also gone all the way), so those outfits might never fit Dawson. In that case, I dunno... but probably still a Connor hand-me-down.

Hello All :D

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT and for letting me vent yet again. I'm taking your advice and as soon as things settle down a little, I'm going for a massage!! The hosp here has someone do them for pg patients, $35 for 1/2 hour.

So I pretty much cried for a while yesterday and then it passed. I actually went on these boards into the Home Threads and posted pix of our ugly bathroom and kitchen in the threads. That helped a little.
I then talked to Brian and he just reminded me that in the end we'll have a brand new bathroom. He also said if we don't get the basement done in time, we can always put Niko's crib in our room, the baby in the nursery and leave the guest room where it is until he finishes the room in the basement. He said Niko would be better in our room cause he sleeps through the night and his room is already set up with the changing table and the rocker/glider. If we had the baby in our room, he'd wake up everytime we had to change the baby during the night.
I told him that sounds great but that doesn't mean he can be relaxed about getting the basement done. So there is a second plan but I hope we don't have to utilize it. I'd like the boys where they're going to be when the time comes.

I didn't get to vacuum but I did get to take a shower last night. Brian went and got some plastic and made a make shift shower.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dd20b3127cce97edb2a4659800000015108AYtWjhm1ctu
It's a little ghetto, but there was hot water, the tub was clean, the plastic was clean and now I'm clean :D

So today I had planned on running errands to get new shower hooks, a toy bin organizer and some other things, but Brian has the car seat in his car so we're not going anywhere :/ I may go tonight alone.

coming home outfit: I'm waiting for more of the summer stuff to come out. I'm going to get a short sleeve outfit and a long sleeve set just in case. This was Niko's outfit. It was a 0-3 and was huge on him. I didn't know they actually have newborn and 0-3 sizes :rolleyes: It says, you wish on a star and got me. It was so hot out that we ended up taking off the socks and hat.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4ce20b3127cce992d1cd0d84b00000015108AYtWjhm1ctu

I can't believe how much my little man has grown :(

So that's pretty much it. I now sit and wait for the doggie pooper scoopers to come and clean my yard. I AM SO FREGGIN HAPPY that they are coming and I don't have to worry about my dogs coming in with poop on them.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Well I fell in love with this onesie and hat and booties in the store and a little bird told me that my best friend's mom got it for me and the teddy bear and blanket to match so I think this will be his going home outfit. The booties are so girly, but I don't care he's a little baby!

Nikko's-Glad you finally got to take a shower! I bet that felt soooo good. I hope things get done for you soon.

Going Home ~ I have just started thinking about this actually. I *almost* bought a cute Winnie the Pooh overall set last night, but the 0-3months looked so big, I figured it wouldn't fit.

I know my sister is crocheting a Hat, Mits, Booties, Sweater and Blanket for us to use to bring the baby home with, but I would still like a special outfit too. I'm going to keep looking though and I've decided I want it to be something that I/We buy for him and not someone else.

Baby's Room ~ Like Pink I feel like I finally made some progress last night on the baby's room. I washed all the bedding last night and have the sheets, blankets, bumpers, etc. ready to go for when the crib gets set up this weekend. I also got my baskets and liners ready to go (washed the liners first) and started unpacking bags and getting things organized. It was a great feeling to see it starting to come together.

But...reality hit that I HAVE BOUGHT SO MUCH STUFF. Seriously, I can't believe all the stuff we have already. But, at least we have all the essentials for when baby arrives and don't have to rely on anyone to buy us anything. Did I mention we currently have four (4) diaper bags...and I bought all four of them (I'm contemplating my fifth right now!)

Showers ~ So DH and I were talking last night and I was saying to him about how much we have alredy and that I don't have to worry about getting stuff at a shower and he asked if I wanted to know what the plans were. I told him no, but he gets excited and has to share...so I'm evidently having two showers. One thrown by my mother and one by his mother. The one by my mom will be in the next month (she's leaving for a month long vacation at the end of March) and MIL is going to throw one AFTER the baby is born. And I figure work will do something for me before the end of April.

I honestly don't care! The thought of a shower makes me feel guilty actually. I hate that people think I'm expecting gifts...I mean, I love getting them, but hate that people HAVE to buy them. UGHH!

Anyways, there's not much I can do about it, as I'm not planning it (or asking anyone to plan it.)

Coming home outfit ~ Haven't purchased one yet...I don't think. She has so many outfits and many are adorable and would be perfect, but I'm still keeping my eyes open for other possibilities if you KWIM.

K came home in this outfit (minus the hat since it was August):

MY POOPER SCOOPERS ARE HERE :D And not soon enough, my little dog came in loaded with poop, again :mad: They've been here 5 minutes and already have switched bags once :eek: I went out before they came and my yard wreeks :eek: Now all I have to do is convince Brian that we need them to come either every week or every other week. He's going to be so busy with the remodel he isn't going to have time to do it himself.

I guess you ladies were busy yesterday. I took the day off to try to recoop. I have absolutley no voice and was just exhausted the last two days. I feel better but still no real voice. Yeah let me tell you scratchy throat and acid reflux is not a good combo. I feel like I am burping fiber glass!

Connor is just adorable in those pics!! I can't believe how small he is!

Names- I love the name Owen! That is my top pick... I just knew a kid in elementary school that ruined Henry for me. It's funny how we associate the two. A ton of my suggestions got turned down because of someone DH knew in elementary school that he didn't like.

Nikosmommy- Sorry the construction is such a pain... Again atleast it is progressing!

Maternity leave- I will work until I deliver. It's all really local and very laid back so there is no reason to take the extra days off before hand. I plan to take a full 12 weeks before I officially come back. The company will be in the middle of moving into a new building so I will spend a few days a week going in there and filing paperwork, labeling and just moving their paperwork in before the employees move in. It will give me a chance to ease myself into working again.

Coming home outfit- I have a couple in mind. We also have our 4th of July outfit.

Showers- I actually have my work one at the end of this month. They are throwing it early since one of our departments is being centralized and they all wanted to be here for it. It also really helps space out the showers so I have time to edit my registry before my friends and family one. We too have bought a lot of stuff already just because we have found such great deals. Some of it my mom bought is getting reimbursed from grandparents for showers presents.

Baby Hiccups- Anyone else getting these yet. The baby is starting to get them a couple of times a day. DH loves it because he can just feel my belly jump.

coming home outfit I wish I could see all of the pics posted, but one again they are blocked at work. The ones that I can see look great. Niko is cute in his hat that’s too big. We picked up an outfit last month from the Little Me store. It is a two piece (long sleeve and pants) in blue and it says “Welcome to the world”. It has a bear in a carriage on the shirt and a bear on the pockets of the pants. It is adorable. We also picked up a white cable knit sweater with a matching hat and a variety of blue socks. I know we really should just get all white socks since I expect we will lose quite a few, but DH insisted. This is by far his most expensive outfit. I think I paid $55 bucks for it. If we every have a girl, we will most likely get a new basic outfit but still use the white sweater and hat. I had initially picked up a onesie, but decided that I preferred a two piece until the belly button falls off.

Also, Childrens Place has some stuff on sale for $3.99. I picked up a soccer sweatshirt (for DH of course), fleece pants and sweater for $12 (all 6-9 months). They had a much larger girls selection. I’m off to get some lunch.

I haven't posted in ages! I've been keeping up with everyone though. I actually lost two rather long posts within the last week or so, and that was frustrating.

YAY for the third trimester!!! I am SO excited to be at this point! It really is amazing how soon our little girl will be here.

Names -- I don't think I posted this already, but we've officially decided on the name Samantha Ellen. DH is so proud of that name, so we've already told our families. Everyone has given very positive feedback, so that's nice. It's neat to be able to call her by name now instead of just "the baby."

Showers -- My aunt is planning a shower for me in St. Louis on April 1. The majority of my family is there, so that's why we'll be traveling from here in Chicagoland to St. Louis. Some of our female neighbors are taking me and the other pregnant woman on the street out to lunch for a little shower. They're so sweet. :) That'll be fun too. My mom's friends are actually throwing a "grandma shower" for her on Friday, and it's shaping up to be quite a party. I can't be there, but I sent a surprise gift for her, so hopefully that'll get there in time. As often as we travel to St. Louis, her friends will be doing us a huge favor by cutting down the number of things we'll have to travel with.

Baby's room -- We've bought a lot of things for Samantha, but right now her room is still the office/second guest room. We've been intending to finish the basement and then move the office down there, but that's sort of at a standstill right now. DH got some news at work that basically amounts to the fact that there's a slight chance he'll be out of a job soon, so we've decided it may be a better idea to save the basement remodel money for now. I'm frustrated because I want that room cleared out, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. DH is a computer programmer and works from home two days a week, and that room is where he works. I'd say we should just haul everything down to the basement now, but then he'd be out of an office. One idea we've tossed around is turning the closet in the guest room that's staying put into an office of sorts (put a desk in there with our computers), so we'll see how feasible that would be. I'm just so anxious to see the nursery come together!

Coming home outfit -- I have no idea what we'll use for this yet. We already have several things that would be cute--assuming she'll fit into any of them. Who knows; we might get even more possibilities at the showers.

That's all I have time for right now, but I'll be back. I still can't believe I hadn't posted at all in this new thread! I hope you're all having a great day!

Ladyjg – hoping that DH won’t be out of a job. A “granda shower” is a very cute idea. If we were only closer to my parents. We don’t live close enough or see them enough for my parents to get anything. We got our crib from my sister and my sister’s mother offered to give the crib she had for her grandson to my parents. We are rarely at my parents house since they live almost 7 hours away so there was no need. We will travel with the PNP when we go there. DH’s parents are closer (2.5 hours away), but I don’t’ plan on spending a bunch of time there either. It is too cramped there, so we probably would stay in a hotel.

Kaeden’s mommy – That’s Little Me too. I love footed play/sleepwear. That is a cute print.

Names – I have a good friend named Owen, so I’m sorta biased. I really like Samantha. DH’s cousin has that name so we didn’t consider it. They call her Sammie for short.

Baby’s room – DH put up the Classic pooh prints and the shelves over the day bed. I have come up with an idea for Noah’s name over the crib. I just need to decide on colors.

Traveling with baby – A friend is having a 1st birthday party for her daughter July 1st. They live about 2.5 hours away. This will mostly likely be our first road trip and will be a test for our much longer trip in August. My family reunion is then and we are going to VA. It is about an 8 hour trip without a baby. That trip will be an adventure since I can’t legally breastfeed while I’m in the car unless I have Elastagirl breast or change a diaper while he is still strapped in. We might as well get ready for the longest road trip of our lives.

Aww!! All the babies are SO cute!!! :D Makes me that much more anxious for all of us!! :D

Unforunately, I did not pass my 1 hr GTT this morning (because I didn't eat prior to the test, according to my dr :rolleyes: )so I will go for the 3 hour within the next 2 weeks. Then my next appt is March 14. When do the 2 week appts start in a normal pregnancy? Around 30 weeks or so, or later?

The good news is that I do NOT have high bp, which is good, yet annoying because it has been fluctuating between the high side of normal and high since day 1. Today my dr was concerned so she had me lay on my side and took it (twice!) and it was completely normal. Not even a little bit high. So I am very happy about that! :)

Otherwise, nothing to report here. Just hanging out at 25w 6d, waiting for the 3rd tri to start! :D

Hope everyone had a good day!

Nothing much here to report...still haven't firmly decided on a name, though I've been secretly trying out our number one choice. Trying to decide if I can call this baby the name every single day...of course we won't make a firm decision on anything until we meet our little guy.

Making some more headway on the nursery, but it's going to stop over the weekend while I'm away. I'm ANXIOUSLY waiting a call that our baby furniture is in...but haven't heard anything yet. I really want to get it all organized, but until we get the furniture in, there's not much more I can do. I don't have anywhere to put all the clean stuff, so for now I have to stop.

Babylust ~ I'm sorry about not passing the GTT test. I'm going to go in for mine on Monday morning and have to call tomorrow about what I can and cannot eat prior. Actually, I think I received a flyer from the M/W on the test, now I just have to find it. Good luck with the 3-hour test...I'm sure this time you will pass with flying colours.

Okay, off to bed with me. DH is frustrating me to no end and I'm just getting cranky now. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day!

In progress baby room pics.
The glider will go under the window next to the dresser. Ignore the stuff on the shelves over the bed..I just stuck some stuff up there. Not sure what I'm going to put on them. Noah's name will go over the crib.

I'm totally behind again. I'm starting to get stressed about the fact that I'm leaving work in 3 months and I have a ton to get done before I go on leave, so I've actually been working!! Things are good with me. I had a MW appointment this week and I'm continuing to gain weight - up a total of 22 pounds so far! I was hoping to keep it down but considering the fact that we currently have chocolate cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, girl scout cookies and at least 3 flavors of ice cream at my house, I'm not holding out much hope. My pubic bone problem is still there but either I'm getting used to it or it is getting a bit better because it hasn't been bothering me quite as much recently. I still have good days and bad days though.

ds2003 Cute belly! I'm impressed at how complete your nursery already is! We have that same rug in my DD's playroom and it has held up well for being pretty inexpensive.

traveling w/baby No trips planned for us so far, although we tentatively discussed a trip to Switzerland in August just yesterday. We'd be tagging along with DH for a work trip so I'm not sure how I feel about managing a 3 year old and a 2 month old on my own in a Swiss mountain town, but we'll see. We did take my DD to my brother's wedding when she was 4 weeks old and although it was an adventure, it was easier than I thought. What is normally a 5.5 - 6 hour drive took us about 7.

names We're still working on them. We have about 3 top contenders right now and we're just sorting out which one feels right.

good morning everyone! I had my 24 week appointment this past Tuesday and everything looks good! we heard her heartbeat on the doppler so all the aches and pains totally seem worth it right now. I am up 18 pounds which I am horrified with. my doctor was very pleased- haven't gained too much, haven't gained too little and to be honest, I'm not that upset over the weight gain, I am very bothered by the end number. I know it's going to increase so I might as well make my peace with it! I did just find out that my doctor is going to be on vacation over my due date. . definitely a bummer for me as I love her so much .. but I know the chances of her actually delivering me are slim as she is in a large practice group. . and I suppose she deserves a vacation at some point. I suppose it will be good to meet some of the other doctors at this point. she also told me that all the aches and pains are going to get worse between now and 28 weeks. seems that we should have a pretty good growth spell then and the body has a hard time keeping up.

thank you to everyone who commented on my shower issues. I have decided not to go to Texas. I love my friends there but the flights are expensive, I would have to take 2 days off that I should keep for maternity leave, and I think it would be more fun to go after the baby gets here, let her stay with my in-laws and have fun with my friends. I am going to suck it up for the North Carolina mini-shower and my Virginia friend has decided to go ahead and invite my other friend that she doesn't really like. so all is well!

how do you all feel about used baby items? one of my friends gave me a swing, bouncer, bathtub and a playyard. she wants them back, which is fine, and I am vert grateful, but I kind of think I want my first child to have all new things. . is that bad????? am I spoiling her unnecessarily already?

names- Kennedy Burton is still the leader but I can't say it's definite. I don't think we will know a definite until we meet her. IN ONLY 16 WEEKS!!! holy smokes. less time to go than what we have already been through. Yikes!

DH and I are spending all day Monday getting things in motion. . cleaning out the nursery, registering. . all that good stuff that will make me feel better once it's at least started.

DS- nice belly shot! and nursery! you've done a great job!

GTT- my doctor told me Tuesday to have an egg or something low carb right before my test at 8:50am. completely different from what everyone else has told me but I like her plan better!

okay, that's it for now. sorry for the ramble. hope everyone has a great day!

Used baby things:Some things I don't mind, like clothes, exersaucer, etc. I've registered for new stuff but if I don't get it I can borrow some stuff from a friend. I really wanted new bedding, furniture, etc. Some things mattered to me, some things did not. If you get new stuff at your shower maybe you can return some of the items to you friend and say you got some things you were not expecting and thank you so much for the offer but maybe someone else could use them. My SIL keeps trying to give me a crib and I haven't seen her since Christmas but if she brings it up again I am just going to tell her I've already ordered mine (I'm such a liar ;) ).

DS-Nice room and belly shots :) !

Used stuff --
I'm all about used baby stuff. If I can get it free (or for much less than brand new), and it's clean, un-marked, not broken and meets current safety standards, I'm ALL for it! :) The way I see it (after seeing how fast Connor outgrew and stopped using so much baby gear…) is that all that stuff costs money. You could spend $X on brand new everything… or you could spend about 1/4 of $X on slightly used stuff. It won't change the fact that your baby will only use the swing for ~ 5 months and the bouncy seat for ~6 months and the jolly jumper for ~6 months (or whatever…) Baby won't care -- and I feel (for us, anyway) that money is better spent elsewhere or saved.

Here are some of the things we ended up buying used:
- jolly jumper "bumper jumper" - $20 rather than $60 retail
- Playpen #2 - $60 rather than $120 retail
- Playpen #2 - $20 rather than about $100. Sold it a year later for $30
- Crib - Free
- Change table - Free
- Exersaucer - $40 rather than $120 retail
- High chair - Free (but I never liked it… might garage sale it this year and look for a better used one)
- Fisher Price Kick & Play bouncer - borrowed. This time, we want to buy a used one if possible
- Medela Pump In Style… bought used for $140 USD….sold it for $120 later. This time, I've bought another slightly used one from a WC/LJ friend for $120 USD. I bought my own horn kit brand new -- won't compromise on that portion of the breast pump!!

That's all I can think of at the moment for the major baby gear…

When looking around for used stuff, you'll be totally amazed at the stuff that's for sale (or being given away) that is in perfect condition. I mean, a newborn baby isn't going to wear out a brand new bouncy seat -- TRUST me! He may get a little spit up on the fabric, but that can easily be washed out. Second hand, that bouncy seat will likely look and work like brand new.

Oh, and this also goes for toys… MOST toys I buy are in perfect "like new" condition that I find at garage sales. I surface clean the plastic parts and wash any fabric that was on them… and you can't even tell that they were used toys -- and I saved a tonne of money doing that. Not to mention, my little guy would rather play with real extension cords, radios, blowdryers, cel phones, etc. So, toys hardly get worn out at all. And… in a few years when my boys no longer play with the 'younger' toys, I'm going to have one huge garage sale and make almost all the money I "invested" back -- which will all go towards their college funds...

That being said, yes, we did have some new stuff - bought AND given as gifts - and I'm grateful that Connor did have some new stuff (and Dawson, well, he's getting a *brand new* bumbo seat - and perhaps a bouncy seat if I can't find a used one - LOL!).

We had a new play pen (and eventually bought two used ones to have extras…long story!), a new swing (given as a gift, which replaced a borrowed one), new travel system and new car seats. For me, that was the most important thing -- Car seats (incl. the travel system) HAD to be brand new. I wouldn't accept anything less. We did buy a third (used) car seat at one point to have on hand…but we sold it again last year.

The other thing that I had originally wanted brand new was a crib..I wanted my babies to have a brand new crib. However, we ended up getting a gorgeous oak one for free that was a few years old (but met all current safety standards). At first I fought Wade tooth & nail about it. I wanted BRAND NEW. But after we wiped down the wood, set it up and put new castors on the legs, the crib was absolutely solid and in perfect condition. So, I backed down and said "Ok, we'll try it out…for now." I admit now that after seeing how solid it was after getting set up, I didn't feel like we'd put Connor in any danger by using a used crib. In hindsight, I'm soooo glad we were given that hand-me-down crib. Connor was only in it for less than a year and a half… and I'm so glad we didn't spent hundreds of dollars on a crib. That made it easier to justify buying him his big boy bedroom set last year. At least THAT set should get 16+ years of use, which I see as a better long-term investment!

Anyway, I know it's totally fun to get brand new stuff…and I did love the *new* stuff we got as gifts… but for just about everything else, I eventually felt no guilt getting used baby stuff.

LOL… long winded again… can you tell I'm a bit bored at work this morning? ;)

Used/borrowed baby gear: I'm all for it as well! A lot of the stuff is soooo expensive and the baby only uses it for a short while, then it just takes up a ton of space in your house! I was really lucky in that my SIL and BIL both had kids before we did and we were able to borrow a lot of stuff (cradle, swing, exersaucer, gymini, etc.) from them. That really saved us a lot of money and by the time we were done with it, they were having more kids so we just passed it back. I can understand the idea of wanting new for your first baby, but once you start looking at the expense it is overwhelming.

I just went and walked on the treadmill at the gym after not doing anything for months and my lower, right abdomen started really hurting. I slowed down and went and got on the bike and it stopped. Do you think it would have been ok to keep walking despite the pain?

Good morning, everyone!

I started my day off with an OB appointment. I was nervous b/c the only reason I had to go in was to check my weight and so the doctor could review my food journal. The good news is that I haven't gained and the doctor was really pleased with me. So much better to have her smiling at me rather than raising her eyebrows. She does think I need more calcium and recommended I drink a glass of milk and increase my cheese intake. I can definitely do that! She also confirmed that the baby has moved north and my uterus has really creeped up. I think the baby is standing on its head--totally straight--not curled in a ball. The heartbeat remains in the 130s.

My next appointmen is March 22 for GTT. I'll be 27 weeks.

Great belly shot, DS! The comparison with your 13 week picture is amazing. (Your pants do still look baggy in the legs so your belly must be the only place where you are putting on weight). The nursery looks great too!

Going home outfit: I haven't given this much thought. We live about 1 mile from the hospital so I don't picture the "going home" trip to be a huge ordeal. I do have one newborn onesie that might fit the bill though.

Names: I just finished reading through all the girl names in the Baby Names Wizard and haven't wavered from my first choice. Seems like reading yet another book is only serving to confirm the names we've had in mind since the beginning. I do think we will use my maiden name--a simple four letter name--as the baby's middle name.

Used stuff: I'm all for it! I'm hoping to inherit a lot of things from my brother and SIL. They have two girls--four and two years old, and a boy who is almost a year old. I don't think I'll have to buy a stitch of clothing for a long time. We did buy a new stroller, bedding, and infant seat. I'll know after this weekend how much gear they'll be passing on to us. I can't wait!

Hope everyone is doing well! I have tomorrow and Monday off so I'm really excited that it is Thursday! :D

Used/borrowed baby gear:
Bassinet: $25 from Ebay local seller - vibrates, has mobile, plays music.
Swing: $15 from Ebay local seller 3 speeds, plays 15 different songs, timer
Johnny Jumper: $5 from yard sale New in Box
Clothes (outfits, sleepers, gowns, bibs, blankets- most of which still had tags from Ebay) Can yall tell I LOVE EBAY???? lol
Baby gate (expands from 3 ft to 8 ft)- $8 new in box
Walker - Free from coworker
1 Infant & 1 bigger car seat - Free from coworker
2 boppy pillows - Free from coworker - I bought covers since they looked boyish :)
I know there are a few more used items but cant think of them right now.

Her bed, furniture and bedding are all new :)

I have been having back pain in the late afternoons. I do not have the best posture so that could have some to do with it - I am sure it has alot to do with this growing belly.

After work last night I went to walmart (to buy a few things & look at baby stuff) I was there for an hour & 10 mins .... UGGGG when I got home my feet / ankles were soooo swollen you could not even see my ankles. I propped them up but they did not go down very much -

Anyone else having swollen feet/ ankles?

pink: I think you made the right decision to stop and try a different exercise. I'm sure the baby was fine, but it is good for your body to work different muscle groups anyway. I get a little nervous when I'm doing prenatal pilates and I can tell that my "core" muscles are straining. But the baby is always fine so I try not to worry too much.

swollen: I noticed my feet swelling toward the end of the work day so I put a few books under my desk to prop up my feet. It seems to help.

DS- Great belly shot and I like the nursery. I bet having that daybed in there will be handy later on!

Used stuff- Another person that is all for it. I just wish I wasn't so lazy! I still need to get out to my uncle's place and see what they have to offer. I also want to talk with his wife about breast feeding. The thing is I don't want to go over there by myself and be all "So I heard you have free stuff." I try to get my parents to go over there with me to visist and then that lets my uncle invite me back over for stuff if he wants.

My friend also gave me a ton of cute clothes. I have another friend that has offerered but she is the same one that offered me her maternity clothes and flaked out.

~~~~
Eck- My cold is only getting worse. And now I am getting bloody noses! Yuck! I hate being congested!
DH pissed me off again this morning. He is throwing a fit because I refuse to be late for work and dip into our savings so that I can stop on my way in to get him some McDonalds! He spent his allowance, I have $20 left in mine to last another week and he wants me to get him some damn McDonalds! He didn't even call early enough to give me time to stop there. I would have been late to work and now he wants to give me the silent treatment. WTF!
Thanks, we are pleased with how the room is coming along. We did not do a whole lot. We didn’t even repaint (although I wanted to). I’m still shocked on how much my belly has grown.
Orange, glad to know the rug will hold up. We got it from Home Depot.
Lil Mrs – I think the daybed will get used more than the changing pad. I will have more space.
Used stuff – Depends where I get it.
Most of my maternity clothes are from my cousin. The crib and dresser are from my sister. I have a few used clothes and I’m sure we will get more. I can’t get myself to use “used” stained clothes, if after I wash them a zillion times the discoloration is still there. I’m more accepting of used stuff from family that I trust over total strangers, especially if it is hard to clean. If I can’t put the fabric in the washing machine then I don’t want it. I’m not a big garage sale or consignment store shopper, but I do hit a few in the spring and summer. DH likes yard sales, but neither of us has every bought a soft item. I just can’t do a used breast pump under any circumstances (except possibly from my sister). I’m a little pickier with infant stuff. Hard plastic toys don’t really bother me, if they can easily be sanitized (dishwasher, disinfectant). Wooden toys I would prefer new if my child is still putting everything into his mouth. If I know you are a very sanitary person (like my sister) I will probably take anything.
DS ~ Great shots...you've definitely made alot of progress on the baby's room and look at the cute belly of yours.
Pink ~ I've noticed lately that if I walk for too long, without stopping or slowing down (like in the mall) then I get a stitch low too. As soon as I slow down it goes away though. And good for you for going back to the gym...I don't have any motivation for that now.
Used Stuff ~ Well, our baby will definitely have a mix of new and used. Our child is the first grandchild for my in-laws and the second for my parents (but my nephew lives 3 hours away so ours will see my parents more often) and we've been receiving alot of new stuff. MIL informed us that she has 27 Outfits for baby in various sizes.
We also bought a new crib/dresser, eventhough we had been given a perfectly good used one. It was important to me to have real wood and I wanted it new. I also bought a new glider, which to me was VERY important and new crib bedding.
We received 2 bouncy chairs, a carseat, infant bath, 2 Cocoons, tons of cloth diapers, tons of toys, lot's of receiving blankets, towels, wash cloths, clothes, a swing and I'm expecting alot more this weekend when seeing my sister. And I bought a used exersaucer, a used high-chair, a used boppy, a used change pad cover, used robeez, etc.
I'm also hoping for new stroller as a gift (want a Peg P3 Pliko)
I'm not against getting used stuff, cause like Connorsmommy said, the baby is never going to know the difference and is out of stuff so quickly that we will have to replenish often, costing us lot's of money.
Swelling ~ I have bad swelling in my ankles. When I take my socks off at night, the indent left by the elastic is awful...definitely have moved to cankles...yikes!
Birth Classes start for us on Tuesday. I'm excited about going to them, doing the hospital tour and learning whatever I can...it should be fun, but I don't think DH is too enthusiastic about them, especially since he learned there is a hockey game every night we have a class and one falls right on his birthday (which means no dinner or going out.) It's his fault though, I gave him the schedule and let him choose the dates...not my fault he didn't check the calendar or hockey schedule.
DS ~ I agree with you on the sanitary stuff. If I can't wash it myself (with bleach) or sanitize it, I don't really want it. Most of the stuff I've gotten used has been from my best friend or my sister. I've been able to wash, dry, re-wash and dry everything. I trust the stuff they have and know where it came from.
The thought of used bottles or a used breast pump just don't sit so well with me. I don't mind buying a second hand breast pump that's new (looking at one right now actually, the person never took it out of the package) but to buy stuff that's used just creeps me out.
I'm not a big garage sale shopper and only buy clothes at the Consignment Shops, unless it's new stuff. Awful I supposed, as we probably could have so much more, but...I just can't do it.
Used baby stuff ~ We never bought used with Kaeden and still have all the stuff he had so we don't need much this time. I don't mind used things like high chairs, etc. that are very easily cleaned, but bedding and such I'm more careful about. Ebay is an awesome resource for great deals!
Anyone with the Baby Name Wizard book ~ Would you mind posting the sibling name suggestions for Kaeden (Kaden)? I don't want to buy the book since we've decided on a name, but I am curious as to what they suggest. If you don't mind I'd love to hear the boy and girl names. TIA!
The whole thing about used breast pumps…. I can understand the ick factor. In fact, I'd received some gerber hand held battery operated breast pump thingy from a woman at our church (who I'd only met once and have rarely seen since…she also gave us our high chair, change table, baby bathtub which we never used, about 500 bibs, etc.). Now THAT totally icked me out and I got rid of it. There was NO way that I would allow my BBs and breastmilk that I'd serve to my child to TOUCH something that previously had bodily fluids of someone else.
But in the end I was ok with using a used one. After all, in the hospital, I used the hospital pumps while I was a patient… AND in the next couple of weeks in the NICU (we had 3 pumps in a little room inside the NICU to pump & store for our babies). We all had our own horn/tubing kits, and the only shared part was the actual pumping unit (which milk NEVER touches). Then I rented a pump for a couple of months (Medela Lactina Express, which is a higher grade than the popular Pump In Style), and again, that was just a pump unit and milk never goes past the horns either, not even into the tubing. So that's when I felt it was ok to buy a used PIS, which uses the same parts -- horns and tubing -- that I already had and had confidence in. Bodily fluids never reach the 'shared' pump parts.
DH, being a mechanic who has a lot of experience handling pump type things, checked our used PIS over before I used it and his analogy was…. To get any sort of contamination from the previous user, well, that's about as likely as getting in your car and getting motor oil on your hands from holding the steering wheel.
So, anyway, that's why I wasn't so icked out anymore about used pumps (as long as I used only my own personal tubing that no one else has ever used). OTOH, Medela (and I assume other companies as well) do not condone used pumps primarily b/c of the liability for the one-in-10-billion chance that someone might actually somehow contract something from the use of a used pump. I mean, look at all the crazy lawsuits out there these days. Plus, it's a great sales tactic for them if they make their products un-recycleable. KWIM?
Anyway, I digress…. I totally get the ick factor of using a used pump, and I completely respect that… just wanted to explain how my own ick factor went away b/c of my experiences.
ds u look great! what a difference from week 13 to 24. and your nursery looks wonderful...gosh i feel like such a slacker :(
pink i think u listened to your body and did the right thing.
used stuff i'm not opposed to it BUT it depends what it is. my friend is letting me use her maternity clothes and since i know her and trust her i didnt have problems with it. i probably wont take things from just anyone so i guess i'd border on the more selective side. my friends have told me they have stuff for me and are waiting to see what we get at our showers and they've also made it very clear that they wont be offended if i want all new stuff. well i have to be realistic as well...i cant afford everything brand new and my parents live in another country and are helping out as much as they can. but we both agree that the furniture and travel system has to be new. so we're gonna get those ourselves. i dont want to get something from someone and then it takes me forever to clean. another friend had someone give her a bassinet and it was very cute but it wasnt cleaned and it had mould on it :eek: i could never give something to someone without cleaning it first.
i dont think i could use a used pump - i would probably buy my own if i have to.
swelling none yet
back aches anyone have problems yet? its not so bad but i do notice my back is pretty tight in the evenings and sometimes it takes longer to get comfy at night cos it starts to hurt.
names not yet. but most likely wont share until baby arrives. have had too many people give their unwanted opinions so would rather not say anything!
birth classes we start tuesday. the instructor wanted us to wait til may to do them but we cant cos dh has his exams then and i have a work trip the first week and i dont want to be coming home really late at night and then have to go to work the next day tired. i know the tiredness increases significantly toward the end and now i have the energy and we can practice everything we learn. she says we will forget - whatever!
Back aches – not really. It does get tight and I usually stretch my back and thigh/butt area while I’m in bed to help loosen things up.
I went to the dentist this morning and the ladies in the office say I’m having a boy. Great guess. A good friend of mine said the same thing after I sent her some pictures from last night. A teeth cleaning while pregnant is no laughing matter. My toes were cringing the entire time. It has never been so painful. I hate that water pick thing. Afterward the hygienist said that I will do well in labor since she didn’t hear a peep out of me. Little did she know I was screaming in silence. I had been warmed that the gums are more sensitive while pregnant. That is no lie. I don’t recall ever being in pain for teeth cleaning. I have to say that I have been lax about it over the last few years. Maybe that is why. I was told my teeth look great given the lapse in time to my last cleaning.
Kaeden's mommy: The book doesn't list Kaeden as a name choice (it's definately not one of those books that has 7 million names in it). However, Kaden is listed as a sibling choice for the girls names Brooklyn and Ashlyn. Good thing you didn't waste that money to get 2 suggestions:rolleyes:
used stuff: I'm all for it. I've also become a huge sale shopper. I think paying more than $15 for a pair of my shoes is outrageous (I never used to feel that way). I'd rather spend the money on other things now.
DS:
I SO did not need to hear that about the dentist!! ;) I last went in November and I don't remember being more sensitive back then… but I have another appointment in the last week of May. I would have liked to make it sooner but Wade's work insurance is very sticky - they won't cover their portion if you are 6 months less a day coming in for your next cleaning. So, I had no choice. I guess I can always reschedule for a later date if I am too big/uncomfortable to tolerate a cleaning @ 36 weeks. I just hope to be able to get through it so I won't have it hanging over my head after Dawson is born.
I know what exactly how you feel about this. I am beginning to feel the same way - but I will share with yall "IF" we ever decide/agree on a name ... ha ha
Shaq ~ We were told the same thing about our birth classes, better to wait and finish up just a few weeks before your due date, but I figure there is going to be so much going on and getting ready for, that is the last thing I will want to do. I figure now, with not being so stressed, I will retain more information than if I wait. Plus, having the midwives with us, they will guide us through everything (even if we forget.)
Teeth ~ I second what DS just said. I haven't had a teeth cleaning yet (I'm scheduled for one April 19th, but am going to postpone until after baby is born.) But I had to get a crown put on and let me tell you it was not fun. I find my gums are bleeding now even with just brushing my teeth. My gums get really raw and sore very easily too. I haven't even thought about flossing for a long time. I did it regularly and soon after finding out I was PG, my gums would bleed excessively, so I gave it up. But the M/W did recommend getting it done.
Back ~ I have noticed in the last few weeks that after a day of walking, laundry, etc. my lower back is very sore. I've been getting DH to rub it for a few minutes each night. My baths were helping alot, but I find I'm too uncomfortable in the baths anymore to make them help.
Going Home Outfit ~ Well, after responding this morning that I hadn't found anything I *think* I found the perfect outfit at lunch. It's a little blue sleeper in a waffle fabric. It's short sleeved and says 'Thank Heaven for Little Boys' on the front. It also comes with matching shoes. That with the sweater, hat and blanket that my sister is making will be perfect IMO.
But it was a toss up with another outfit, which I also bought in 3mo size. It's white and blue overall shorts, with the 'Thank Heaven for Little Boys' and a little golf shirt with a cute little hat to match. I think it will be perfect for pictures, but someone suggested that long pants are better for bringing the baby home in (eventhough it will be warm in June.)
MrsBrownie ~ I absolutely *LOVE* that bedding set. It's my favorite and I always said I'd get it someday, but now I think I've decided not to buy a bedding set for Mackenzie. I'm going to live vicariously through you because it is so beautiful. I can't wait to see pictures of the finished nursery!
Kaeden's Mommy ~ Thanks! I can't wait to share pictures. I'm so excited about it. It was actually a bit of a splurge (well, actually it wasn't when compared to things available up here) but it will go through two kids and our whole nursery, furniture and paint, were based around the bedding.
And now that I've been thinking about it...I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to help me. As I mentioned previously, I'm in Canada and this set is only available through Babies R Us (I bought it on Ebay though.) There is a Lamp that I'm desperate to get, but haven't been able to have it shipped. Would anyone be willing to let me buy it and have it shipped to them and have them turn around and ship it to me. Actually same goes for a PBK Chamois Crib Sheet (haven't been able to get one shipped even through Ebay.)
I will pay for all the shipping charges and everything...I just can't get it sent to me any other way. Maybe someone could let me know if they would be willing!
I hate to ask, but I really want the lamp just to finish off the room and I can't figure out any other way to get it.
Thanks!
I'd be willing to help ya out if no one else will :)
We have a Babies R Us about 5-10 miles away - I am sure I will be going there soon - I could see if they had it in stock if you would like - just let me know what the name of the lamp is
Mrs Brownie- Great belly shots! Definately looking preggers! I also think that bedding adorable.... I'm also willing to help you out and ship stuff for ya. Just pm me if you need anything.
~~~

So my boss just came down and she is putting together the flyer for the baby shower! I am getting so excited I can't believe it is so soon!!

Also my dr appointment was today. Nothing new to report. I am up another 5-6 lbs and now at 172. A little more than I was planning to gain- I think my new goal is to stay under 185. My original goal was 180 but I just don't see only gaining another 8 lbs the rest of my pregnancy.

I just have to say again that absolutely love my dr! I told him about the Bradley Method, some of my questions about the hospital, diet & exercise and just all those random questions and I just love how is about it being my pregnancy! His response for the most part is "Hey you're the parent... I'm here for you and whatever you need." I just really like his approach to everything!

I have a BRU question. My aunt is supposed to be getting my crib for me but I don't think she wants to order it til April. I'm all nervous I am going to have to order the crib and wait forever for it to come in so I called BRU and asked how long my particular crib takes to come in if it's not in stock. They said 7-10 business days. I was expecting to hear 6-8 weeks or something. Do you think the guy I talked to knows what he's talking about? I've always heard baby furniture takes forever to come in if you have to order it. I'm tempted to just buy it myself and then if she asks about it tell her she can just get me something else if she wants or she can reimburse me or whatever she wants to do.

MrsBrownie -- Are you looking for the lamp that matches that bedding? If so, I just saw it at Babies 'R Us tonight. DH and I were talking, and we'd be happy to save you some shipping costs by buying it and shipping it to you and then we could settle up with you later. :) If you need me to help out, let me know. Same deal with the PBK sheet. Those are really nice, btw!

You girls are all so wonderful...I just don't even have the words. I was really hesitant to ask, as I hate putting people out, but I really wanted the lamp (that matches the set) to finish off the room. I can't believe how nice and kind you all are...it's choking me up just thinking about it.

Ladyjg ~ I can't believe you've offered to do that for me, I would appreciate it so much, you have no idea. I am looking for the lamp that matches my bedding set. It's so cute, but I just haven't been able to catch a break on finding it and getting is shipped here.

If you would be willing to buy it for me, I would be so appreciative. I don't even have a problem sending you the money (in a cheque) before you even ship it to me, as I don't want to put anyone out. I just don't have any other way of getting it...and even to go to Niagara Falls, it's my understanding that there's no Toys R Us close to the border.

Please...if you would be willing to buy both the lamp and the sheet that would be wonderful. Just let me know the cost (I'll have to convert it to Canadian, just so you don't lose out on any money) and I will send it to you. I'm so happy and excited, you just have no idea.

And thanks again to everyone...you are all such special women!

TGIF!!!

DH is in LA so I’m not sure how to spend my evening and my Saturday. I’ll most likely do absolutely nothing tonight except put away dishes and tomorrow I’ll resume washing clothes. I would love to clean out the closet in the baby’s room , but since the closet in the office has an armoire in it, I have no place to put the stuff from the closet in the baby’s room. I could go to IKEA to get some closet organization stuff, but I’m trying to convince myself that I should wait until the closet it clear so I know what I have and really need. For some reason this just reminded me to take my PNV.

Lil_Mrs – when is the shower?

Mrs Brownie – nice belly shot and I like the bedding. The colors look so soft.

This morning I was looking at my tummy and it looked like it was going up and down like a heartbeat. I could not feel it but could see it. It would do it a few minutes then stop and repeat. Are those baby hiccups?

Pink I'm not sure if I would believe the person at BRU who told you only a week or so to get a crib ordered in. I don't have personal experience with them, but I have heard and read SOOOOOO many stories of their stuff taking forever (including from my best friend who waited 3 months for her furniture from BRU, and then only her crib came-her dresser and armoire never did arrive until after the baby was born cause it was backordered). I'm sure your aunt probably just doesn't understand how long these things can take, even though its very nice of her to buy it for you. And I'm finding that people don't understand why we're freaking out so "early" to have things ready. To them, it's like, come on, you have four months. I'm a person who always likes to do things ahead of time and be ready just in case, so I would do what you already suggested and get it ordered if you can, rather than take chances on not having it on time. DH doesn't understand the furniture thing either, so I've been on his case to get him to let me order it, cause it was driving me crazy. He finally agreed.

jbenny-That's exactly how I feel! It's so nice of her but I am tired of waiting and scared it's going to take forever to come it. The only thing is I won't have the cash to buy it for a few weeks anyway so I don't know if we should put it on a credit card or wait for her, or what. I would normally have the room done by now, everyone is shocked it's not, but since I quit my job we don't have all that extra income anymore!

pink Actually, I read in Baby Bargains that you should use a credit card, in case there is a problem or dispute. You could then call your credit card company, have them stop the payment, and they will handle the dispute for you. I'm not big on using credit, but as long as you will have the cash to send in right away, I don't see a problem with it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

jbenny: Thats ok- Sorry I could not remember it was you. - Glad I could help ya out. $30 was not a bad price at all for a rug.

I found this amazing seller on Ebay. She does custom wooden letters to match your theme and/or fabrics. There are tons of pictures of her work on the auction page. They are so cool. If I ever pick a name, we will be getting some.....

DS- The shower is March 24th! She told me to let her know if there is a few key things I want. She said a lot of people forget to buy gifts and just give her cash to buy gifts that morning. I don't know what to say. I think a Target gift card would be the best help so that I could diapers, crib mattress, and a lot of the boring stuff. I just feel uncomfortable asking for specific things.

Sunshine- Now that I think of it I haven't seen her around either! If you haven't pm'd her I can.

Pink- Maybe you could ask a BRU sales person to call around and see if the furniture you want is located at a different store that you can pick it up from. Delivery/backorder waits can be so unpredictable.

I agree with others that said it is better to get all the nursery stuff ready now. Not only is there the chance that our little ones may come early or furniture late but I just don't know how energetic I will be in those last months to put all that crap together. I am also big on getting everything done early so that the last minute stuff doesn't seem like such a burden. That's how I planned my wedding and I'll tell you I was the most calm bride ever in those last weeks.
