Hey JillIf you really want to drive the nosey's crazy, just post here that you've put a long post on LJ. Then we'll all be sure to go there, and the nosey's won't be able to. I'd hate for you not to have a forum where you can speak freely. Wherever you go (Aug05, or your own journal), I'll be sure to follow and check in on you.

And I hope you'll still post here on non-sensitive stuff. :)

We spent the day in the ER. The boys got dehydrated from puking and pooping combined with not eating or drinking. Pete is still running a pretty good temp. They are finally both alseep now. My ILs are coming over to help tomorrow; we have a funeral for a dear friend so I better go get started on the house.

Otherwise we're good...trying to wedge in way too much before we leave VA...5 more days! Lots of people to see, packing, getting ready for our trip to Germany in two weeks....we survived that wedding but it was quite the event.. Then we had yet another funeral on Tuesday for Kevin's sponsor dad while he was at the Naval Academy. He was diagnosed with cancer shortly after our wedding and finally lost that battle...really sad, still has a young family. So that was 16 hours for 2 roundtrip trips to Annapolis in 5 days....all we ever do is drive I think! I'll check in before we leave because I don't know how long it will be before our internet is set up there.

We've moved on to veggies...sweet potatoes were a real hit...I think I'll try something new each Monday and eventually get into oatmeal and fruits. Next up, squash mmm! Downside we have "real" poops now...real smelly ones too....who'd have thought we'd talk about diaper contents sooo much.....Jeb is great eater though, just opens his mouth when the spoon is near, doesn't try to grab it, rub food all over his face or spit it out...knock on wood!

Question for those making baby food. Now that I am back home, I want to make Zach's food. What is better - a food processor or a blender? I have noted the book Tina has, and as soon as I can get out (snowed in!), I plan to pick it up. I already have Super Baby Food. Any other tips?! TIA!

Kiley
02-12-2006, 08:32 AM
The Super Baby Food book says if you could only have one, she'd pick a blender. That's what I have and it's worked great so far.

Mickey&B
02-12-2006, 08:54 AM
I have a food processor with a smaller attachment so the clean- up is much easier. My mom always just used a blender, I am sure either is fine.

snowzilla
02-12-2006, 08:58 AM
I have both, but I use my food processor. I just find my blender to be a PITA to clean - and I only have so much room on my countertops for small appliances, and the food processor gets used more often than the blender. I think you'd be fine with either! :)

LOVE Grace's rosy cheeks!!!

baby food I have a Magic Bullet. Haven't used it for baby food yet, but it's coming (that's how I convinced DH to let me buy it! ;) ).

So we survived the weekend. Today was Arrena's Baby Dedication at my church home. My MIL, Dad, and her Godmother all flew down for it, and my friends came. After the service, we had people over for a dedication party/housewarming (no one had seen our new apt). Teh good thing is that it made DH and I really clean up. We unpacked a bunch of boxes and just figured out some placement of furniture. I have to admit that the place looks nice. Of course, in two days we'll have messed it up again.

Arrena did so well during service! First, during a rousing song by the choir, before we went to the alter, my crazy daughter FELL ASLEEP. Mind you, this is a LOUD and boisterous song. I knew the dedications were next so I had to wake her up. AND, she was snoring! It took a full minute to wake her up. But when we got up to go to the alter, she was wide awake and smiling. My biggest concern was that she'd cry when the Bishop picked her up to pray for her. Nope, she watched him enraptured while he spoke, and went to him easily. She was a doll. I was so proud. :)

The party after was good, too. We had too much food, but I guess that's o.k. My g.f., Arrena's GM, taught me to make pound cake from scratch, and it turned out pretty good. We had rolled sandwiches(bought), a fruit platter(bought), pasta salad (I made), crustini w/ goat cheese and tapanade (I made), and white sangria (I made). All in all, I was proud of myself.

Of course, now, I could just drop. Too tired to think anymore. :p

Good grief! I only just got caught up on the other thread and now I have to read 2 pages over here, too?!?!:p Oye, did we have a long day yesterday. Our flight left NOLA at 10am, we got re-routed to Washington Dulles for 5 hours, and then once we took off and got to JFK, it was too icy for the plane so we had to be taxied in which took FOREVER. We did not get home until 11:30pm or so. We had been up since 5:30, of course. And you can just imagine the crap naps that Luke got all day. What a freaking nightmare. We got 26" of snow here. I can't remember how much they got in NY, but, OF COURSE, it had to be the biggest blizzard of all time on THE DAY we fly back from NOLA. Luke was a trooper, though. He got upset many times (understandably), but everyone commented how good he was. *phew* I didn't want to be one of those people. I think it also helped that we flew JetBlue and they have the TVs in the seats so most people had headphones on.;) My poor BIL and SIL are flying out (yes, after all of that yesterday) today to Tailand for their honeymoon-17 hours. I feel so bad for them-personally I could care less if I ever get on another plane this year. ugh. And to make matters worse, they had to dig their car out of JFK last night. ugh, ugh, ugh. We are so f'ing happy to be home! So happy in fact, that Luke slept from midnight until 8:40am!!!! He was all smiles when I put him on the changer last night and in his crib for a minute while I changed clothes. It was like he knew he was home. What a trooper. Anyway, I'll have to catch up on the last two pages later because he obviously needs a diaper change and to nurse. It's only 15* out right now, but we *have* to take him out in the snow today, ya know?:p

Great new thread! Thanks ladies.

Trenton did something new Saturday. Lately when I go to pick him up, I clap and hold my hands out to him. I'm trying to get him to reach up to me when I pick him up. Well, on Saturday he did it! He was laying in his pack-n-play and I clapped and reach out to him. He immediately reach out back to me! I was so excited. :)

Yesterday he broke out in a rash on his tummy, a bit on his back, and a little behind his knees. I did some internet research and it appears to be heat rash. Sounds strange since it has been in the 30s-40s but he was in a very heavy footed sleeper all Sat night and most of Sunday (indoors) so we bathed him and put him in a lighter sleeper. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. Hope it goes away today.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I think we had Roseola and pink eye this weekend. I put breastmilk in his eye on Saturday night and Sunday morning it appeared to be gone. Go milk!

I am so sick of Preston being sick! Luckliy, everthing he's had, he's had a mild case of it. Now, if we could only get him back to just waking up once a night instead of three  , we'd be in business. Any suggestions?

Wow I was just watching the news and they were talking about the Blizzard of 2006 :) I can't belive how much snow fell! I know you guys up there won't appreciate this but I want snow!! It's freakin' *86 here today, has been all week! I have to dig out some summer outfits for Aidan.

Darrien Sounds like you had a good time! We still have to get Aidan dedicated, with B's work schedule it hasn't worked out, and now that his parents are in Idaho for months who knows when we will get to it.

alex67 Heat rash that sucks, I guess there is nothing you can do for that huh? just wait it out.

I am so excited Aidan has his first Valentine's Day Party tomorrow :D with our Mom's club. He has to take Valentine's, so I made playdough for all the kids and individually wrapped small balls of it, with a plastic cookie cutter, included the recipe for the parent's and put it in a colorful valentine's bag.

Gotta go I am being called on from the living room!

I'm going to go back and update again later today(with pics & such)...I just wanted to pop in real quick to post an update on Zach/Lora, then I'm off to catch a few more Zzzzz's.

I hate to be bringing bad news again, but Lora, Rusty & Zach need all the support they can get right now.
We need to get the thoughts & prayers going again ladies.
Lora emailed me last night around 2:40am to let me know they were on the way BACK to the hospital with Zach. :(
I haven't heard anything today & won't hear anything until she calls/texts/emails me again(I don't want to call because if they're sleeping, the last thing they need is anyone taking that sleep away!). As lots of you know, Lora was reading the RSV thread and she was already going out of her mind without having to return, yet again, to the hospital. I can't imagine what her nerves are like right now.
Please, please keep them in your thoughts and say a prayer for little Zach in hopes that he can shake this thing!! Prayers for Lora & Rusty to stay strong(and keep their sanity) probably wouldn't hurt!! Thanks girls!

Diapers

Can anyone help me here?? We've been using Pampers (Swaddlers) from day 1 and they've worked really well until recently at night. I think the downfall is that she's totally a tummy sleeper at night now and the pee is coming out the front and getting her jammies soaked. I've tried a bigger size and the Pampers Baby Dry. Haven't found the trick yet. Does anyone have any suggestions or have better luck with other diapers???

jillybean_247

gmooter I'm having the same diaper problem here. My son is also a tummy sleeper and by morning he is soaked! I've tried buying a bigger size, but he still leaked. So I have been changing his diaper half way through the night, and thankfully he goes right back to sleep.

I've been meaning to check for overnight diapers in his size, but I don't think they start until size 5. But I could be wrong.

So sorry to hear about Zach. Thoughts and prayers, Lora and Rusty.

Arrena is busy playing on her little floor gym, using the hanging toys as a jungle gym and exercising her arm muscles. She's being nice and noisy (in a good way). Suddenly, Andrea Bocelli came on The View and started singing - silence. I turned around to see that Arrena has turned all teh way around (she was facing away from the TV) and was staring at him, listening. The moment he stopped, she turned away and continued to play.

Despite her waking up at 11pm (usual) and 2:30am (also fairly common), my girl then awakened at 4:30am and again at 5:30am. I got so tired of getting up and going to her room that I just climbed into bed in her room and put her in with me. We finally got an hour 1/2 of sleep. I'm dead, but she's so freakin' cute today that I can't even hold it against her. BUT, I'm going to go get Healthy Sleep Habits, etc. or some other book TODAY!!! :D

Thoughts are with lora & zach!!!

Diapers --

DD started in Pampers Swaddlers. She grew FAST, and once she was out of those she went into Pampers Cruisers. She's now in Cruisers 4 and will hopefully stay there for awhile. She's been a tummy sleeper since she was just a couple of weeks old, and we've yet to (knock on wood) have a problem with leaks.

We've noticed the need to move her up in size well before the suggested poundage.

We'll be praying that Zach gets better, and for strength you and Rusty to make it through this trying time.

Diapers I had a lot of leaks with Pampers so we finally switched to Huggies and haven't had a problem yet. I remember looking for overnights in a smaller size awhile back when we were having all the leaks and never found them in any size smaller than a 4.

Andrea Bocelli came on The View and started singing - silence. I turned around to see that Arrena has turned all teh way around (she was facing away from the TV) and was staring at him, listening. The moment he stopped, she turned away and continued to play.

I absolutley love him!!!!!! I play his CD in the car for Aidan all the time!! I must go out and get that new CD Amore I think it's called.

Mickey Glad it works. I really have to take new pictures for the instructions (I can't believe I sent out something that I look that bad in)

Poor Lora and Zach We hope everything is okay really soon!!!

Andrea Bocelli Ben tries to sing along. I just hope he doesn't have my voice or I will be supplying the world with earplugs.

Leslie Glad you made it home safe!

Well Ben figured out that he can scoot. I am so not ready for a mobile baby. What happened to the baby that slept all day?

Is anybody still trying to use their swing or bouncer? I just caught Ben getting out of the bouncer. You would think that the straps would stop that. The only place that the little monkey can be right now is in his crib! He even tries to climb out of my arms. I think he is going to be very independant, and a band aid collector.

Oh my goodness. Phil just brought Ava home from daycare and she felt warm. I took her temp and it was 101.8. I am waiting on a call back from her peds on call service, but it looks like we are likely heading to the ER tonight :( Please keep Ava in your thoughts too!

Ugh. Poor Ava. Hope it's nothing serious.

scooting Yep. Arrena is *thinking* of scooting. :) She sometimes gets her army crawl going, but she just goes backwards, so she never reaches her destination. Really funny.

I am SO NOT READY for a mobile baby. I haven't even begun to baby proof the apt yet! It astounds me how quickly they are growing. It could make me teary-eyed.

Poor sick babies.:( I hope they are feeling better soon. Big hugs to Lora and Nikki.

Yay Rachel!!!! What a big girl!

I am loving all of the baby pics. We have THE CUTEST babies in here!

We're still recovering from our trip. It hasn't been too bad getting Luke back on schedule. I thought I was going to have a really rough time of it, but so far it hasn't been too bad. AND he has STTN the past two nights! I don't know what has changed-I'm guessing he's just catching up on his Z's. I would love it if this was a permanent thing, but I'm not that naive.:p Yesterday we went out and played in the 26" of snow that we have here. I'll have to post a pic later.

Bad mommy! I forgot to post that Luke rolled over from tummy to back for the first time yesterday! Yay!!! Now we have a roly poly baby. My mom gave me a hard time on our trip about Luke needing to spend more time on his belly or else he was never going to learn to crawl. I'm trying to be better about it, but now that he can roll both ways, I'm thinking he'll figure all of this stuff out on his own, right?

x-posted from my LJ

Hi guys. Well, we didn't end up going to the ER. Her ped called us back and said that if her temp got any higher, that we needed to go, but to keep giving her tylenol and motrin. Her fever broke around midnight last night and its been running just a little above normal ever since. She had a fitful sleep again last night, so I am one weary mama. When we got up this morning, she seemed a lot better as far as being playful. So we are taking her to her peds office today at 3:30pm, unless she starts running a fever again on the meds, in which case they will fit her in earlier. So, please keep your fingers crossed that its nothing major. She still has her wet throaty cough, but she is still eating and that's the best sign, even if it isn't as much as normal.

On another note, I found out last night that the daycare didn't give her Tylenol at 2pm, per my instructions in the medicine log, bc they thought she seemed fine. I am FUMING over this, and I am thinking that this is the straw that has broken the camels back. I am calling the daycare down the street and seeing if they would have room for her. When I asked them if she felt warm, they said well, the room was warm anyway, so its hard to tell. ARG ARG ARG. What if her temp had been much higher than that? Would they even have called me? I am so mad over this.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers!! I will update everyone again later tonight!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!! My hubby is "making" me stay home today to have a "me" day! Yeah! He's already called to make sure that I'm doing nothing. I'm FINALLY getting my hair cut/colored (finally shedding my white trash look!) this afternoon, and I think I'm going to go rent "Elizabethtown" to watch. Has anyone seen it? I love Paula Deen, and I'm excited to see her in this movie.

Love everyone's pics (as always)!!! We're so lucky to have the cutest babies around. And Leslie, you've inspired me to take Landen out in the snow for a picture this afternoon (although we only got about 4 inches compared to y'alls 20-some)! Those snow pics are great! Love the Tweetie Bird bunting! Have a great day y'all!

Whoa! I would be so upset too!!! Do they not take any of the kids temperatures? I mean, they could've *at least* taken her temp before deciding not to give her any med. Sorry that you're having to deal with daycare issues on top of taking care of little Ava! I hope it all works out for the best very soon!

Just a quick drive-by -

Nikki, I'm not sure if daycares in the US are regulated the way that daycares are here in Canada, but if they are, you might want to consider sending a complaint letter to the daycare board (if there is one). My kids were in a "bad" daycare when they were little, and I ended up complaining. In fact, so did a bunch of parents, and the daycare was eventually shut down because the director was such a beast.

So many sick babies (mine included), I hate it!

QOTD - Everything related to sleeping - what time does DC go down, where do they sleep, what time do they awake for the day, how many times do they get up, do they eat when they get up?

DS goes down at 7pm and is up for the day between 5:30-7am. He's been getting up three times a night and has to eat (BF) every time. He sleeps in his crib. He's driving me nuts! I'm chalking it up to him being sick, but still; I'm tired.

QOTD - Everything related to sleeping - what time does DC go down, where do they sleep, what time do they awake for the day, how many times do they get up, do they eat when they get up?

Our schedule is somewhat like this:
5:30 pm - home from daycare
6:30-7:00 pm - falls asleep while bfing, transfer to swing for about a 30min - 2 hr nap or sometimes she never wakes back up until I take her to bed with me at 10 pm.

If she wakes up from that nap, we play or bf again. What ever it seems that she wants.

10 pm - go to bed (co-sleep). If she's awake, we bf again.
12 am or 1 am - starting to stir, so bf again.
3 am or 4 am - stirring again, so bf again.
5 am - I'm up for the day.
6 am - wake up Rachel, dress her and bf her back to sleep with DH.
8 - 8:30 am- up for the day
9 am - at daycare
10 am - 4 oz bottle
10:30 am - usually at least a 30 min nap somewhere in here.
12:00 pm - maybe another 30 min nap about this time.
1 pm - 4 oz bottle
3 pm - usually at least a 30 min nap
4 pm - 4 oz bottle

It's a good day if she naps 2 hrs total at daycare. She much rather watch everyone. She's never fussy (or so they say).

QOTD - Everything related to sleeping -

I hesitate to answer this because Luke's sleep was a mess while we were on vacation last week and has improved dramatically since we've been home. I have no idea what 'normal' is for him now. So, I'm answering with a mix of before vacay and after vacay answers...

what time does DC go down he's usually asleep by 6:30

where do they sleep in his crib always except for a sometimes morning nap with me in bed

what time do they awake for the day before vacation he was waking up anywhere from 4:45am:rolleyes: to 5:30am, yesterday he woke up at 8:30am and today he woke up at 6:30am

how many times do they get up, do they eat when they get up?
before vacation he was *waking up once a night every night and occasionally twice a night and yes I feed him when he wakes up because it's the only way I can get him back to sleep. The past two nights he has not woken up during the night. Hurray! That makes 3 nights in the past 6 months that I did not have to get up to feed a baby!!!

*when I refer to waking up in the night, I mean the times when he wakes up and I know he won't go back to sleep. He does wake up other times, but he always puts himself back to sleep within 15 minutes or so and I do not go to him.

Ugh-I think we've hit the 6mo growth spurt. I guess I should be thankful that it's now and not while we were gone, but DAMN! I have the world's whiniest kid on my hands today. It's like he has completely forgotten how to self entertain. ugh, ugh, ugh.

5:00- 5:30 bath
5:30 -6:00 BF until he starts to fall asleep, then I place him in his crib and he usually falls asleep on his own.
3:00-4:00 up once to eat, then right back down in his crib
5:45- 6:00 BF up for the day
8:00-9:00 nap can range any where from 30 min to 2 hours
11:00-12:00 nap again can last anywhere from 30 min to 2 hrs
2:00-3:00 nap his last nap is usually only about 30 to 45 min

Oh man, I knew I had the *only* baby getting up more than once a night! I know two other August babies IRL and they both STTN. :(

So he's only been doing this 1+weeks but it's consistent. Last night he went down at 7 and woke up at 9:30pm. Too early to be hungry I thought so I sent DH in there to comfort him. He tried, but after 10 mintues of screaming he gave up and returned him to me, I fed him and asleep he went until 12:30 and 4am when I had to feed him to sleep again both times. Then we had to wake him at 6:30am for school.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! :D
Can't do the QOTD right now, I have a sick hubby to tend to. :(

It breaks my heart to hear about all the sick babies, lots of get well wishes from me, Lina & DH to all of you guys!!

I have an update on Lora: I talked to her about 30 min ago. She sounded pretty hopeful but also worn out! Poor thing.:( They have run a ton of tests on Zach and they still have more to run, but they think he has...I can't remember the correct terminology, but it consists of him getting asthmatic symptoms every time he gets a cold. They said it could go away within the first few years of life though...if that's what he has. I'm hoping I have these details correct, if not, I'm sure Lora will clear things up when she gets back around these parts. At any rate, she says he's in good spirits - flirting with the nurses every minute! :) And she really appreciates all the thoughts and prayers!!

Kiley, I know it sucks, but I wouldn't get too upset about it. There's the 6mo growth spurt to consider here. Plus, I have read several times that 6mos is a big month for them as far as brain activity goes. I'm sure it's just temporary. "This too shall pass" seems to be my motto lately. lol I'm sure now that I posted that Luke has STTN the past two nights, he'll be up every two hours tonight! Especially considering how whiny he is today.

Trenton goes down between 9-10pm right after his last feeding. He sleeps in his crib in his room and he wakes up between 6:30-8am. He wakes up at least once, sometimes up to 3 times but each time he just needs his paci put back in and then he goes right back to sleep. We don't even pick him up.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

our schedule:
5:00 am bottle, back down to sleep
6:30 up
7:00 solids: rice cereal with banana, and some type of fruit
9:00 nap, down with a small bottle
11:00 up (or whenever they decide, but they usually take an hour to 2 hour nap)
12:00 full bottle then lunch, usually a fruit and a veggie
1:00 down for a nap (if they got up at 11)
3:00 up from nap (3 is hopeful, but again, its anywhere from 1-2 hours for a nap)
4:00 small bottle snack
5:30 dinner, usually either 2 veggies or a veggie and a fruit
6:30 bath
7:30 bed (DH gets home at 6:45, so he get so see them a little before they go to sleep)

full bottles are 8oz, snack bottle is 3 or 4 oz.
Nate eats a total of 4oz solids per meal*
Pete eats a total of 8oz solids per meal *

*when they aren't sick of course, right now, we try solids, but Im lucky to get a couple teaspoons down them each day. I don't force the issue, but I try to offer it to Nate frequently or he has to go back on his reflux meds (which he hates).

Naps range from 1-2 hours.
We base our schedule off of "how many hours since"...rather than by the time on the clock (although we are slowly adjusting to that it seems). They usually nap every 2 hours, and eat every 4.

They may wake/stir once or twice a night each, mainly just because they need their paci at that time and usually can't find it (its usually under them LOL).

Our sleep problems:
Pete has been sleeping like crap lately. He wakes up and just lays there and plays with his feet or whatever. Then when he gets up from his nap he is still really tired, but wont go back to sleep. He is a really light sleeper. I have a soother/white noise thing going for him (that seems to help), I keep the room warm, and he always naps in his crib. The sun doesn't shine through the windows on that side of the house until late in the day, but thats not when they nap. Its not *dark* in there by any means, but its not bright either.

Nate sleeps soundly, but he is hard to get to sleep. Lately, the only way I can get him to sleep is to let him cry for about 10 minutes, then go up and rock him to sleep. If I don't go back in, he will cry forever! If I skip the crying part and go straight to rocking, he won't go to sleep! Its driving me nuts!

Ack! I am miserably behind on this thread! Yay for starting a new one :D

Sleeping/Naps
DD takes 4 solid naps per day, which vary in start time, depending on what time she woke up that AM. Generally though:

8/9am - 1 hour nap
noon/1pm - 40 minute nap
4pm - 1 hr or 40 minute nap
7pm - down for the night. This can actually happen as early as 6pm

As far as night wakings, we did some serious STing which unfortunately was interrupted and set back by DD's sickness. Now that she's recovered, STing is back on.

After going down at 7pm, she'll get up around 11pm/12am for a feeding and then will be down until 5/6am - *however* sometimes we will have to replace her paci during the nightwakings. We do not pick DD up from her crib between 11pm/12am and 5/6am.

Her feeding pattern closely mirrors her sleeping pattern (meaning she'll eat either before or after napping).

Wow...I have a lot to catch up on!!!

Broderick finally rolled over from back to front (did front to back at about 8 weeks  ). He is about 20 lb and 28 inches...he;s growing so fast! He's dying to crawl. He keeps scooting and has the motions down he just can't figure out that he needs to lift his big ol' belly off the floor! :D

Brodericks schedule looks something like this:
6:45-7am Up for the day, BF, Get dressed, etc
8:30 Nap (usually 1 hour)
9:30am Rice cereal
10:30am Bottle of Breastmilk (or BF if I am off of work or weekend)
12pm Eat (veggies and fruit)
Around noon (another nap usually about 1 hour)
2:00pm Bottle of Breastmilk (or BF if I am off of work or weekend)
Between 3-5pm sometimes a short 1/2 hour nap
4:45 BF
6pm Veggies and fruit
6:45pm Get ready for bed (bath, storytime, etc.)
7:30 BF
Usually no later than 8pm - IN BED

Broderick gets up usually onle once a night, sometimes twice...He was a STTN champ for a long time until the dreaded ear infections over Christmas break and now he sporadically STTN

I'll be back later to post a picture!

Red'sGirl
02-14-2006, 02:07 PM
I'm always confused when people speak of STTN. Does that mean without waking to eat??

Arrena's schedule:

6:30/7am up from crib/bf in bed with momma
9am nap for an hour
10am up/ cereal w/ fruit and bf
11:30am-12:45pm nap, bf
1:15 to daycare
*around 2:30/3:30 - 3:30/4:30pm nap, then bottle - sm amt. of solids
5:30 p/u at daycare to home (she finishes bottle off at 5pm)
7pm/8pm short nap (45mins)
8:30pm cereal with vegetable or two
10pm down for night

1am/2am wakes to eat, right back to sleep
4:30/5am wakes to eat, right back to sleep
6am wakes and talks for a bit w/o getting up until 6:30/7am up

However, my girl doesn't seem to eat that much. I'm not sure how much cereal I give her, a few Tablespoons with ebm and *some* fruit or veggie mixed in. Her bottle usually has 4oz in it, but she only drinks 2oz or so at a time, and finishes the rest around 5pm. It doesn't seem like she's eating as much as other babies, but I feed her until she refuses (or loses interest), so clearly she's not hungry anymore. I dunno.

Anders schedule is like this:

6:30-6:45 p - arrive home from day care and feed some solids
7:00-7:30 - bath and bedtime routine (asleep by 8:00 )
11ish - first waking/feed go right back to sleep
2ish - second waking/feed go right back to sleep
5ish - 3rd waking/feed go right back to sleep
Note: starting tonight we are going to go back to trying the paci at at least one of those wakings. This is ridiculous! He was only waking once a night at about 3ish. I can't wait for the return of those days.
7-7:30a - awake for the day
9/10ish - 1st nap of the day (lasts approx 1 hour)
1/2ish - 2nd nap of the day (lasts approx 1-1.5 hour)
We may or may not get a 3rd nap, but lately he's been giving us one due to the crappy night time sleeping.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Darrien, I finally figured out that everyone's definition of STTN is different. I think the scientific(?) definition is 5(6?) straight hours of sleep. If I went by that definition, I could have said Luke was STTN months ago. My personal definition is me not having to go to Luke once during the night (before 5am). 7am would be nice, but I take what I can get.:p

I just answered the QOTD questions and didn't mention naps or feedings. I go by the two hours of wakefulness rule/follow his cues. There is no way I can watch the clock with this kid and say "Oh, 11am-naptime!". It will never work. He usually starts acting tired (yawning, rubbing his eyes, whining) at about 2 hours of being awake, so it works out well. He gets 3 naps a day. Sometimes 4; sometimes only 2 if we're out and about. I feed him before every nap and any other time he acts like he is hungry. Solids-we took a break while we were on vacation and just started up again last night, so we're not on a set schedule for this yet.

X-Posted with my journal

We're home...

...for now! After talking with Zach's pulmonologist and his GI doctor, both seem somewhat confident that he has Reflux coupled in with RAD (Respiratory Airways Disorder). This will not be confirmed until Thursday. They are doing a double scope on him - one down his Trachea, the other down his Esophagus. He will be put to sleep (much to my dismay). The procedure should only last around 45 minutes. After, we should have a confirmed diagnosis of SOMETHING. We do not have a scheduled time yet. Once we do, I will be sure to let everyone know.

Thank you all so much for the prayers and support. I cannot even begin to tell you how much it has meant to us. Hopefully we will have our happy, healthy, WONDERFUL little angel baby back to normal soon!

Hugs to everyone,
Rusty and Lora

I will come back to elaborate more tomorrow after Zach's appointment with his ped. Needless to say, we are, again, exhausted. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. And thank you, Kim, for keeping everyone updated!

Kiley - Caleb STTN consistently (got up exactly once to nurse then right back to sleep through a period of 10 hours) while I was on leave.

When I went back to work, he had some refusing the bottle issues for awhile. Now he has 3 regular and substantial overnight feedings. He is happy though and appears to get enough sleep during the night and day.

I just go to bed early and get up late.....

Lora I just about cried reading your post. I am so sorry, I can't even imagine what you guys are going through. Hope the dr's get it all figured out and that you won't have to go through this again.

Tina Your poor boys :( I hope they get better soon, I'm exhausted for you over here!

DarrienAs long as she is gaining weight, and having enough wet/dirty diapers I am sure she is fine. Like you mentioned before she may just be petite. She'll let you know when she is hungry.

Kiley Don't worry too much, at my MOM's club today another mom was telling me how her one year old, has his nights where he sleeps through the night and then others where he is up 3X to nurse.

We have a nighttime routine of a bath and a feeding (we'll incorporate a bedtime story when she's a little older). After she eats, she goes down anywhere between 8:00-8:45pm

Where do they sleep?
She's slept in her crib since she was 1 month old; prior to that, she slept in the PNP in our room.

What time do they awake for the day?
Anywhere from 6:00-7:30am

How many times do they get up?
She never really "gets up" during the night. If we hear her fussing and it doesn't errupt into a full-blown cry (which it rarely does), we leave her alone to put herself back to sleep.

Do they eat when they get up?
No, she eats right before bed and as soon as she wakes up in the morning.

************************************************** *******
So much has been happening with Soph lately! She FINALLY rolled over from her tummy to her back for the first time a few days ago and is SO close to rolling from her back to her tummy (she sure likes to roll from side to side!). She's babbling away, making the craziest noises and having a ball. She's doing great with one oatmeal feeding a day. We had planned on starting solids (fruits and veggies) this week, but we're moving on Sat. and thought it would be too hard to be consistent with it, so we'll try them next week once we're settled in. She's smiling so much now and will look you straight in the eyes (like a mini adult!). She LOVES splashing around in her bath and will play "shy" sometimes or "flirt" with us. Ahhh, this fifth month has been chalk full of new tricks and accomplishments.....I imagine it will only get more exciting from here!

x-posted from my LJ....

So I have been up since 2am. Ava is still pretty sick. When we went to the ped's office yesterday, he held her for a minute and said, "well, she has RSV bronchiolitis and is about *this close* to a double ear infection". We were given a scrip for a nebulizer and told if she wasn't better by morning, that we needed to call him back and bring her back in. She's due for another breathing treatment (she's supposed to have them every 4 hours)at 4am. The breathing treatments are making her hyper. She's trying to play, but she's still just so sick and coughing. The ped said that her entire GI tract was just filled w/ mucous and he was surprised she wasn't throwing up more often (she has done this at least once daily). She's running a fever again (101) so, I think I am going to take the day off today and she's gonna go back to the doctor. I am hoping that maybe they will take some x-rays and make sure that everything is ok in her chest. My poor baby :( :( :(. She is PITITFUL! Yuck! :(

Lora - Glad to hear y'all are home...so sorry about what you are going through! I really hope little Zach gets better soon...and they are able to give him a diagnosis of something...its the not knowing that's the hardest. {{HUGS}}

ETA: I just noticed that today is your birthday Alice! Happy Birthday!!!

Okay, I think I finally figured out why Luke is so whiney lately. He's frustrated because he can't sit up. It's like now that he knows how to roll, he's more interested in toys and what not, but he can't really reach them. I CANNOT listen to one more day of this whining!!! How long is this going to last? What should I do to encourage him to learn to sit up on his own? Help!

This is ridiculous! He was only waking once a night at about 3ish. I can't wait for the return of those day!

This is so us right now!

Well, last night he was only up twice. We're making progress. Everyone says it will be better when he starts solids. We'll see this weekend.

Leslie, I think that to help them sit up faster, you could practice sitting with him (between your legs or with the boppy), otherwise he'll get stronger by having lots of floor time. HTH!

Get well to Zach, Ava, Nate & Pete!

Everyone says it will be better when he starts solids. We'll see this weekend.

Kiley, I hate to burst your bubble, but we've been on solids for 1 month now and this is our schedule. I've learned not to count on anything. Last night Jack went to him at the 11:30 waking, but he wasn't settling down for anything so I went in there to feed him and give him a little Benedryl. He slept until 4:30. Jack gave him a paci at 4:30 and he went back to sleep. He was up at 6:00, when I fed him and then we had to wake him up at 7:30 this morning to go to school. He was still sound asleep. I guess the Benedryl made him drowsy, but not drowsy enough to stay asleep at 4:30 and 6:00. What a little stinker. No ideas on how or when to expect STTN. All babies are different. For now I will just try to go to bed early, and continue to pray every night for him to stay asleep.

Lora, I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this. I can't imagine how hard it is to see your little baby so sick and to not know what's wrong. I hope that the doctor's are able to tell you something and then that they are able to give him something to make him better soon.

Tina, You are so strong for what you are going through. It must be doubly hard to deal with 2 sick babies at the same time. My heart goes out to you and those precious boys. I hope they feel better soon.

Leslie - sorry he's being so whiney. I don't know what to tell you. Anders loved practicing his "sit-ups", and I'm sure that is what made him so strong. You can't force Luke to do something he's not interested in. Hang in there, he'll get strong enough soon.

Darrien - I have a tiny eater too! DD is also small for her age so I am guessing that is contributing to her tiny appetite.

I think STTN is sleeping for 8-10 straight hours with zero wakings OR if there is a waking, your DC can soothe him/herself back to sleep without parent intervention.

Having said that, I am thrilled whenever DD goes down for the night between 6-8pm, gets up at 11/12am for one feeding and stays down until 5/6am. :D

UGGGHHH - poor sick babies!!! :( I hope Zach, Pete, Nate, and Ava are all on the mend very soon!! Hang in there, mamas. I can only imagine how hard these past few weeks have been for all of you!!

Happy Valentine's Day!! I know I'm a day late, but in my house, that's pretty durn good! The V-day pics of everyone's babies are so cute!! Personally, I'm not a big fan of the day, but when you have children, you get less choice about which holidays to celebrate - Tallie had a big party at school yesterday, so we had to do the Valentine's for daycare and all that. It really wasn't terrible - I'm just an old grouch these days! ;) And Will finally gave me something (first time since we've known each other, so 5 years!), although its a combo birthday/Valentine's day/Mother's Day/Anniversary/Christmas present...we're going on a 7 day cruise in June!!! We haven't been on an "adult only" vacation since before we were married, so I just can't even wait!!

Sleeping I may get chased out of here, but Abigail seems to be doing pretty well with her sleep, finally. She definately got out of whack when she was sick, but has gotten back on schedule just in the last few days. Her schedule looks like this:

6:30-7:00 am: Wake up, eat (solids or bottle), get ready for daycare
9:30-ish (this time can vary by an hour either direction) - 10:15-ish - 1st nap
1:15-ish (again, +/- hour) - 1:45-ish - 2nd nap
4:30-ish - 5:00-ish - 3rd nap (about 50% of the time, she'll skip this nap) - This is right around when I pick her up, so sometimes she falls asleep on the way home, sometimes she falls asleep when we get home, and sometimes she skips it all together
6:00 - We start getting ready for bed: dinner (solids), bath, jammies, bottle
She's usually in bed by 6:30-6:45pm.

Right now, she's sleeping all night. But, as you can see, a typical day for her usually only includes (2) 30 minute naps. And, if we don't have her in bed by 6:45 (7:00 at the very latest), she will often wake up throughout the night.

(Her typical feeding schedule includes breakfast (either 1 jar 2nds solid or 6-8 oz formula), AM snack (whichever she didn't have at breakfast, solid or formula), lunch (1 jar 2nds solid), 7-8 oz formula about 30-45 minutes later, PM snack (7-8 oz bottle), dinner (1 jar 2nds solid), bedtime snack (3-4 oz formula))

The one thing I have learned about sleep over the last few years is that sleep routines can, and often do, wax and wan. It is very common for both girls to get into a really good routine for several weeks, even a month or two, where they are both going to bed really well, sleeping all night, waking at a decent time in the AM. Then, they typically get off routine somehow - sometimes its a growth spurt, sometimes its a trip, sometimes they're sick, sometimes we can't figure out why - and they will be all goofed up for several weeks, going to bed hard (fussy, not going down, etc), waking a lot, getting up early. Those times are very frustrating, but fortunately, they tend to last shorter amounts of time then the good times. And, of course, all of this is based on both girls being FF by the time they were 6 months old. Abigail nursed through the night until she weaned at 5+ months.

Not much else interesting going on right now. Abigail has cut one tooth (her bottom front tooth) and has a second right at the surface, so should be here in the next few days. She has just started getting up on her knees and rocking, but can't stay up for very long yet. She still refuses to roll by herself, and we had a near miss last night when Tallie tried to roll her over with her arm stuck under her. Luckily, we caught her before she hurt Abigail. I think Abby's close to being mobile, though, and I'm definately not ready for that! I like having an immobile child, at least for a little longer!!

What time does DC go down?
About 6:30-7 pm. We do a bath every other day, it helps her sleep better.

Where do they sleep?
Crib. We coslept/cosleepered until she was 4 months.

What time do they awake for the day?
7:30 am.

How many times do they get up?
Once usually, sometimes twice.

Do they eat when they get up?
Yep.

We still haven't started solids, and we nurse whenever she seems hungry, probably every 3 hours, ish. :)

Thank you for the well-wishes. Yesterday was a nightmare, Im so glad today is a new day; although I woke up to Nate oozing yellow-something out of his EAR. From what I've been reading, sounds like his eardrum burst (self healing, it lets the infection drain, but since its open, it can also let nasty stuff in).

Pete decided that he is hungry. He took 4 bottles in the middle of the night! (Yes, Im a tired momma this morning). Nate took 1, which is normal. Pete is hungry this morning too, he drank a full bottle when he woke up, plus finished off Nates too. I guess I don't need to give him Otter Pops and Im guessing he isn't dehydrated. Although, in addition to four bottles, Pete gave me a nasty, nasty projectile poop in the middle of the night. From the time I fed him bottle #1 and immediatly went down to make #2, he pooped and leaked out his diaper. So I changed him, figuring he was done. WRONG. So I tried to wake my DH up and tell him to change the crib and the changing pad...man, he was out cold. So I was up doing laundry last night too.

This has to be almost over, right? I mean, croup, colds, flu, etc...that crap only lasts 5-7 days, right?

OH!!!

And my DH is awesome. He normally doens't do gifts well. Its like he knows he is suppose to do something and gets all freaked out about disappointing me so instead he doesn't do anything. Well, for V-Day yesterday - he gave me a beautiful RING! It has two hearts on it with rubies in the hearts, one for each boy since their birthstone is ruby (July). He even remembered my ring size from when we got our wedding rings and had it sized to that. (Unfortunatly, my right hand is a different size than my left hand, but holy crap, I can't believe he remembered that...I don't even rememeber my ring size!)

Yesterday's QOTD-
What time does DC go down?
Between 9-10pm

Where do they sleep?
Her crib, and has been since 2 months

What time do they awake for the day?
Between 11am-1pm

How many times do they get up?
If once, around 7am...If twice, around 5 am, then again around 10am.

Do they eat when they get up?
When she wakes through the night, yes. When she wakes for the day, not immediately, just whenever she's hungry(or when the right amount of time has passed I'll try).

We've started solids, but she is so uninterested. :( She's done great with the cereal, but not so much with the veggies. Every baby is different. I don't know if the solids helped her with STTN or not, but then again, we did things a little differently. Some people don't agree, but we put a little cereal in her bottle earlier on(around 3 months - per PED rec, which was when he said it would be ok re: allergies). As far as the choking hazard, he told us as long as the bottle had a stage 2 or better nipple, the cereal would pass through fine, and that it would be too soupy to actally choke her. And as far as cereal too early contributing to overweight babies, well there's just not that much calorie content so that's highly unlikely. She's been STTN since she started those cereal bottles, and even though it may not be "right" it does make sense that she'd sleep well with a "heavier" meal on her tummy, I mean - I know I get my best sleep after a nice full meal like pasta or something like that! ;) At first I mixed them with BM, then with formula at 4 months when I switched over. At any rate, please don't flame me for it, because she is happy and healthy and STTN, and that's what matters to me/our family. :)

My own is back at daycare today and was so happy to be there. After 6 days in the house she was bored and ready for some new faces and new toys. She finishes her round of antibiotics tomorrow...and then I fear she will be eaten by whatever the virus of the week at daycare is. I ended up with strep, so whatever she had turns into strep in adults. 2 other mommies from her room have it too.

Yesterday's QOTD-
What time does DC go down?
between 7 & 8

Where do they sleep?
Crib, since about 8 weeks old.

What time do they awake for the day?
6:30 (we have to get her up then for daycare)

How many times do they get up?
She doesn't get up.

Do they eat when they get up?

I'm almost afraid to say this...but DS STTN for the first time in what seems like forever last night!!! He had been STTN consistently, since before I came back to work (in Oct). But after that one weekend where he got "all stopped up", he had been waking up at least once during the night (seemed to always be around 3 or 3:30). When my alarm went off this morning, I couldn't believe that I had that much uninterrupted sleep! Yeah! :D I hope this is the beginning of something wonderful...but I won't hold my breath just yet! Have a great day!!!

Hi everyone. We will need your thoughts and prayers for the next couple days.

I took Ava back to her ped yesterday morning bc she didn't seem any better than the day prior and when he listened to her, he immediately admitted her to the hospital. They took about 45 minutes to get an IV in her and because she is so chubby, they couldn't get a vein to come up. Poor baby just screamed and screamed and lept looking at me like she wondered why I was letting this happen to her :( It was so awful, I had to leave and was just balling out in the hallway and total strangers came up and were giving me hugs. One old lady ( a volunteer I think) even tried to hook me up with the doctor seeing Ava at the time. I politely told her I was married. ha ha

Ava had a bunch of cultures and blood work done, and she tested positive for RSV. She also has a partial lung collapse (about the size of your thumbnail) from pneumonia starting to form. They are treating her aggressively with steroids and antibiotics. They had to put her on oxygen last night because her 02 went down to about 87% (they like it to be above 95). She has a little mask on and everything. I know that she will be there through the night tonight and into tomorrow morning. Beyond that is completely up the doctor. Phil & I are cancelling our night out now I think and are going to try and reschedule it soon. I haven't talked to him about it yet, but its probably best that we do that.

Phil is with her right now at the hospital. I am going to try and get some work done today, because my office is so insane with "abuse" of time off (you know how pissed this makes me, so I won't digress on this further), but at any rate, I will be around for a bit today unless something changes with Ava.

Thanks again for continued thoughts and prayers. I am one tired and scared mama.

Nikki, you have a legal right, protected by LAW, to take time off to be with your sick child. Its called FMLA: Family Medical Leave Act. TEll your boss your taking an FMLA day (or many days), and there is nothing they can do. You can walk out at that point and there is absolutly nothing they can do about your time off.

Luke had his 6mo WBV today. He's definitely slowing down in his growth:

height: 27 3/4in
weight: 21lbs 10oz

The nurse and the dr gave us two different sets of percentiles, so I don't know what's right. The nurse said 90th for height and 97th for weight. I think his head was 80th.

The dr asked me all about what he's eating and said we could give him teething biscuits, bits of frozen bagel, and pizza crust now. WTF??? She explained that it will help him learn to chew. This makes sense to me, but I don't think he's ready for foods like that yet. Not to mention I'm paranoid about him choking.:o

She also asked about his sleep (I was dreading this part). I told her I nurse him to sleep and she said that was fine, but that he really needs to learn how to fall asleep on his own now. I am on board with this as I know it will make my life easier-I just don't want to go through the upset. Just this morning, he woke up at 5, and I decided to leave him in his crib until 6. He was fine at first and then progressed to crying his eyes out by 5:15.:( Sal wanted to go in there, so I got up and got him-he was so upset he was clinging to me! Once he calmed down, I put him on the changing table to change his diaper and he started crying all over again. Maybe I'm a wuss-but it broke my heart. The dr was pushing the CIO method, but I just don't think I can take it. ugh. I had said I was going to work on this with him when we got back from vacation-I guess I just now need to figure out how I am going to go about it. *sigh*

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I think I am driving myself crazy reading about RSV now :( Its a pretty scary thing. Also -- the docs think she has asthma...not sure if I posted that before. So I know we are going to have to start giving her singulair every day until cold season is over (end of march here).

And thanks for that info, Tina, but I don't qulaify for FMLA. I have not worked here for 12 mos. I had to leave my former job when I found out I was pregnant because I had to travel to Europe all the time, so I only started her in July. I think its a big loop hole in that law...its meant to protect me, but bc I had to change jobs due to starting my family, I don't have coverage while she is an infant. :( :(

Hang in there, Nikki! Ava's a lucky girl to have such a strong mommy.

Sorry about all the problems!

Nikki I hope she feels much better really soon. We can all keep you company while you are stuck at work. So sorry about having to work when you want to be with your baby. Some companies go a little overboard with that. Daniel got in trouble for taking off since I was told no driving until I wasn't sore at all and we had Bens dr visits to go to.

Leslie I think everybody uses a different chart or reads it differently. Sounds like he is doing great though. Sorry that the dr pushes CIO. If it doesn't work for you then don't do it, you know your child much better than they do. If you aren't sure if he can handle chewing on stuff then I would wait until he is older. Ben loves when he gets a pizza crust, I think he even ate a little tiny bit of it he was chewing like it went out of style.

Nikki - I posted over in your LJ, but I thought I'd post here too that I am so sorry that you are going through this. I cannot imagine how scary that is. My heart goes out to you and Ava. I hope that she gets better very soon.

I'm glad to hear that Zach is doing well. This has been quite an ordeal for them too.

Happy Birthday Tina - I hope you get properly spoiled today.

I will go back and add those of you to my LJ that aren't already on my list. My LJ name is jlormberget

I also had to brag (a little) about sleep last night. Anders woke up at 11:00 to eat and then at 2:00 am Jack was able to quiet him down and he slept until 7:00 this morning!!!! Yea, I'm so excited to be approaching a normal schedule again. If we can just get rid of the 2am waking it'd be great. The best part, though, is that when I pumped at 9am this morning I got over 12oz!!! I normally can only pump about 12-15 oz all day long. This is taking a huge weight off of my shoulders.

Aghh!!!
Pete and Nate were exposed to Chicken Pox over Super Bowl weekend! We were at a party at a friends house and there were 5 babies under 9 months and 4 kids under four. The other kids are just now starting to show signs (none of the babies yet). Please pray our boys escape this one!
I know its not till 12-18 months, but are any of you considering the chicken pox vax? Its required here to start school. I have to wonder though, kids are required to have up-to-date vaxs to start school, how do the people who are anti-vax get their kids into school without immunizations?

Thank you for the birthday wishes! My DH is taking the "fast boat" home tonight, so he should be home before 7. (he commutes to work via the state ferry boat system and he is taking a private ferry boat home instead). Last night, when he got home the boys were already in bed (as usual) and so I ran off and went shopping. Most stores were already closing, but I had a fun splurge at Linens N Things and Fred Meyer (a store like a Super Walmart only * so much* nicer).

The boys seem to be feeling better, they aren't as cranky this morning anyway. Nate appears hungry, so both boys are getting their appetites back.

Jill - don't worry about bringing stalkers to the group. LOL Im sure most of us can relate or at least have heard many stories. I think thats one reason LJ is so popular; because of the privacy. I actually need to go back through my LJ and edit each and every post to make it friends only. I have decided I no longer want it public (mainly because of a certain person I don't like reading all the time and not friending me...its creapy when they mention what I have said there in face2face convo's).

Leslie - Awesome stats for Luke! What makes Luke not ready to practice chewing? Just curious because I started my boys on teething cookies early, and wonder what I should look for. I tried those veggie puff thingies and wow - SO not ready for those.umm...they gagged on them and puked up everything. They were too small and the boys have a pretty strong gagging reflux (not choking, but they gagged on them).
