This past weekend I had a miscarriage. I was about 5-6 weeks. I know I've read that you aren't supposed to wear tampons til the next period but I have a question. My friend is taking me out of town this weekend to relax and we'll be going to the beach for a few hours. If I'm still bleeding do you think it would be okay to wear a tampon just for an hour or two? I know that sounds awful to ask but I'd hate to have to wear a pantyliner with my swimsuit. I know I may have to but I thought maybe someone here would have some personal experience to tell me if it is okay or not. Thanks.

If your cervix is not closed yet you could get an infection. Can you get in to see your OB to have him/her check your cervix?

I'm really sorry about your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(
Until now, I was not aware of the risk of infection Nigellas mentioned, and my doc had not told me that it was not ok so after my two losses I did wear tampons with no ill effect. If there is any question, I'd check in with your doc again to get the green light.

Thank you ladies. It's been up and down so I think a weekend to relax is definitely in order.

Nigellas - I went to the doctor on Tuesday and the ultrasound showed blank (there had been something there on Saturday). He said my cervix was not dialated. Is that what you're talking about? Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I also miscarriaged this past weekend. The information they gave me at the emergency room said NOT to use tampons under any circumstances for three weeks past the miscarriage. I was wondering the same thing since I usually only use tampons. I'd call your dr to confirm what they think about it first. Good luck!

Imagirliegirl and Suzlywoozly I am so sorry for your losses. I had a miscarriage a couple of months ago so I know how painful it can be. Please continue to post if you need support.

I agree that you should call your doctor to see if it is okay to wear a tampon for a couple of hours. It is better to be safe then sorry.

Hmmm....my ob told me I *could* use tampons, even during the m/c!! I used them during my m/c for 8-9 days without any problems. Interesting....

So sorry to hear you had a m/c {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I had my m/c about a month ago. I was told no sex or tampons until my OB checked me after surgery. I had to wait 3 weeks. I would check with your oB first. Not a place to mess around with.;)

Oh...I didn't have a D&C, mine was a natural m/c. Maybe that's the difference...I don't know....

I hope you are doing better.

When I had my m/c, my OB told me not to wear any tampons because of the risk of infections. Sorry to hear about your loss...please know that you will get a lot of support on this board, so don't hesitate to post. (((HUGS)))

I had a miscarriage with a D&C about a month ago and they never told me I couldnt use tampons either. And I did and nothing happened :) . They never mentioned it actually. I go in for my check up tomorrow so I will find out if I did something wrong!
