Hello,
My family and I will be travelling to Prague in July -- with our son, who will be 2 years old. Do any of you travel-savvy CC'ers have advice about which neighborhood in Prague would be the best area in which to stay?
We have found quite a few possible apartments to rent (we have dietary restrictions, so it's easier for us to have access to a kitchen so we can cook some of our own meals), but I am not sure which neighborhoods to look at.
We'd like an area which is quiet, but not too far from the major sights and not soooo quiet that we can't pop into a nearby kiosk or grocery store in the evening if need be. We found many options on or adjacent to Wenceslas Square, but I have heard that this neighborhood can be noisy and somewhat seedy at night.
The public transportation system seems quite good, from what I've read. Any reommendations re: trams vs. metro vs. buses?
I know that many sidewalks in Prague are cobblestone and I am worried that my son will have a hard time walking and that we'll have a hard time pushing him in a stroller when he gets tired. I realize that this will be true in many areas we will visit, but I was at least trying to avoid it in the area where we will be staying. Also, my father has slight asthma so I am worried about having to trek up a huge hill each evening just to get home -- should I avoid the Mala Strana? I thought that area sounded very pretty, but I am wary about having to listen to everyone kvetch each evening...
I know all these concerns sound ridiculous. I am actually a flexible traveller, but my father and son are not... We'll be taking our vacation at a leisurely pace, because it's hard to pack a lot of sightseeing in with a toddler in tow, and we don't want him (and by extension, us) to be miserable.
I'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions.
TIA,
s-b
