Louisiana native daughter Britney Spears will celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans later this month as the devastated city continues to revive – and revert to its old, partying ways.

Spears will join ABC's Good Morning America on Feb. 28 when the morning show broadcasts live from the Big Easy.

"I am honored to be a part of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans this year," the pop star, 24, said in a statement Monday. "It is so important for this amazing city to continue its annual traditions and I am really looking forward to being involved."

The network, in its own announcement, said that Spears – who grew up in Kentwood, La., and has participated in fundraisers for victims of Hurricane Katrina – will bring "surprises for a group of very deserving young residents."

Apparently unable to lose the extra 20 pounds she's gained since December, the 5'5" 140-lb. popstar is currently negotiating to become the spokeswoman for NV, an allnatural appetite suppressant developed in Canada that promises to help a person drop 35 pounds in six weeks.

Seriously, 5'5" and 140 is not that bad, like the article makes it seem! Although I guess when you are used to weighing a lot less, then it probably seems like the end of the world.

I wish I still weighed 140 like I did a few years ago (I'm 5'4"). In fact, that was unusually low for me with my body type. On my wedding day I weighed 150 and looked pretty good, even wore strapless. If I weighed 120, I'd probably look like an anorexic person.

But when the press prints stuff like this about Brit, or any other star for that matter, is it any wonder that people's ideas of what is an acceptable weight are so off kilter and we have so many women with eating disorders???

According to Weight Watchers someone Brits height and age should weigh minimum 120 and max of 138. She's far from fat but I can see where someone like her who's spent their life in top shape would get REALLY frustrated at not being able to be at the low end of their weight range.

The hits just keep on coming for Britney Spears. Too bad they're not the lucrative, bubblegum kind she enjoyed during her pop-princess heyday. One week after Spears was roundly criticized for giving chubby-cheeked tot Sean Preston his very first lesson in paparazzi-evading vehicular maneuvers, she ended up in an emergency room -- a visit that happened to occur right around the time husband Kevin Federline was allegedly engaged in some potentially dangerous shenanigans.

Britney, accompanied by her assistant and several beefy bodyguards (and demurely clad in short-shorts and hot-pink boots), briefly visited a Malibu urgent-care facility on Monday, says "Access Hollywood." She reportedly decided to seek treatment on the way home to her nearby estate after a day spent acting her little heart out on the set of "Will & Grace."

So what prompted Britney's ER stop?

"Access" says she was suffering from "stomach cramps," an ailment that will likely fuel those bubbling bun-in-the-oven rumors (you'll recall that last May, a then-pregnant Brit was rushed to the hospital with the same complaint).

But TMZ.com, citing Spears' publicist, says she was "coming down with a cold," a condition that usually doesn't warrant emergency care (unless, perhaps, for hospitalization-prone Lindsay Lohan).

Either way, she was in the pink enough on Tuesday to return to work on "Will & Grace" and do a little Valentine's Day shopping at Fred Segal.

"Britney is fine," her rep assures MSN Entertainment.

So where was Kevin Federline while his wife was feeling under the weather? According to TMZ, the "PopoZao"-spouting slacker spent the day "playing war games" with camouflage-wearing pals at an L.A.-area apartment complex.

Neighbors were said to be less than thrilled as "projectiles," suspected to be rubber pellets from air guns, flew fast and furiously, hitting buildings and cars.

I may not be a superstar, but I have a regular primary care doctor whom I call and talk to either him or someone from his office first to determine if someone actually needs to see me. And I am actually pretty smart enough to know if it is something that I really need to go to the ER for (like the time I had cysts and was doubled over in pain, but even then I called the doctor first!), or something that doesn't need an ER visit (like when I had stomach pains from being constipated).

I would imagine being a celebrity would mean your doctor could make a house call if need be. And probably much faster service than what I get (though my doc is pretty good)!

It has been 20 months since Britney Spears was last on tour and more than two years since she released an album of new material. But that doesn't mean the singer has stopped performing. These days her audience tends to be small – just one wriggly fan – the venue intimate and the singing unplugged. "I'll sing him 'Mary Had a Little Lamb,' " Spears says of crooning to her 5-month-old son Sean Preston. "And I make up stuff." She pauses and considers for a moment. "I found out after the baby," she says earnestly, "that I can sing!"

It's one of the many realizations new to Spears since entering Club Mom last September. Motherhood "is such an intense experience," says the 24-year-old singer, sipping a mango margarita at a Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif., down the coast from the newly remodeled home she shares with husband Kevin Federline, 27, and "Sean P," as the new parents sometimes call their son.

Unnoticed by the lunch crowd in tinted sunglasses and a sleeveless geometric print dress, Spears is alternately confident when she speaks about her imminent return to the recording studio and exasperated when conversation turns to the subject of the paparazzi. This is clearly a more resolute, more guarded Britney than the one who once only had to look out for herself. "I'm going to [get back to work], but I'm going to do it with definite balance for my baby," she says, "because I want him to have the best of both worlds."

For a star who has led more of her life in the spotlight than out, the challenge now is bridging the dueling worlds of motherhood ("Mary had a little lamb/ Its fleece was white as snow") and pop superstardom ("And everywhere that Britney went/ Paparazzi were sure to go"). The singer's parental judgment came under serious fire Feb. 6 when she drove with Sean Preston on her lap – drawing sharp criticism on behalf of everyone from the Mommy and Me set to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, who called her actions "irresponsible."

Last week Spears explained that she was just acting instinctively while trying to evade aggressive paparazzi; now she addresses the incident with caution. "I love my baby more than anything," she says, "and as unfortunate an experience as this has been for me and my family, if it brings more attention to child safety then I fully support that."


But ask about the photographers who track her every move, and her frustration is palpable. "I don't really go out with him," she says of Sean Preston. "And it's kind of sad because I can't walk down the street with the stroller. I'm not expecting people to pity me. I'm just telling the truth. I've pulled over and asked the cops, 'Could you please help me? They've been driving recklessly back there.' And they say, 'Sorry, ma'am, I can't help you. This is how it is.' I mean, Princess Diana got killed by one of these people. They're crossing the line."

Then she looks up and shakes her head. "I sound bitter. I'm not bitter. I'm doing great. I really am. I'm happy. I'm very blessed. I have a beautiful home, a wonderful family, supportive, loving people around me. I have a great life."

Now, after a year and a half marriage-and-maternity leave, Spears – who recently made the scene with Federline at the Screen Actors Guild and Grammy Awards party circuits – is resuming her busy life with the pent-up passion of a benched player twitching to get back in the game. Coming up: a guest turn on Will & Grace set to air April 13 ("I have been laughing so much every day on the set!") and a Feb. 28 live appearance on Good Morning America from New Orleans, where she has been active in helping to rebuild her home state via her hurricane relief fund.

"I'm not going to be performing," she says. "I thought instead that it'd be more meaningful if I surprised a group of girls to spend the day with them doing things that I used to like to do in Louisiana when I was younger. I know it'll be such an emotional trip, but it will also be uplifting to see the city continuing its traditions."

And then there's her music. The same exhausted star who told PEOPLE three months before giving birth that "the pace I was going at was ridiculous" can't wait to get back to doing what she loves. "This may sound weird, but I miss traveling," she says. "I miss the road, seeing different places and being with the dancers and having fun. That feeling of being on the stage, knowing it's your best – I love that. I needed a break. I needed to be hungry again."

More like ravenous. "She's a true competitor in the very best sense of the word," says Barry Weiss, president and CEO of Zomba Label Group, of which Spears's label, Jive Records, is a part. "I think she knows that she's got a big, big place in the market she wants to reclaim. She says, 'I belong out there. I can do these things.'" Spears is more pointed in her critique of the musical landscape. "It's a huge lull," she says. "I haven't seen anybody out there who has had a performance where I'm like, 'That's f-----' awesome.' It's been boring. Nothing's been wow to me."

Aiming for a release later this year, she has been recording in her home studio, experimenting with live musicians and stripping down her sound. "I'll get on the pian-ah," she says in her Louisiana twang, more pronounced in person than it is in her public appearances, "and just play whatever feels good." Hearing herself sing to Sean Preston has proved a turning point. "When I was little, I would listen to myself," she says. "But the record label signs you, and you're just thankful to get a hit song. You can't really show off your voice and where you came from."

Which brings her back to Louisiana. Growing up, "I used to listen to blues music and all that stuff," she says. "I would like to try to have more influences of that sound. Not that I'm going to be like frickin' Tina Turner. But you never know."

Eager as she is to return to performing, she is not yet the Britney who could famously match her back-up dancers move for move. Although she is rapidly returning to her pre-baby body thanks to "a combination of cardio, weights, yoga and pilates and long walks with the baby," she is still troubled by the 2004 knee injury she sustained while shooting her "Outrageous" video. "It's fine if I go in the gym and start dancing, but when I really start challenging myself, it starts snapping," she says. "I just have a feeling if I really go for it, it's not going to happen."

She has changed in other major ways as well. The star who let it all hang out on last summer's reality series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic is now far more protective of her personal life. "I would love to talk about my pride and joy," she says of her son, "but once you do it with one interview, then the door is open and people take advantage of it." When asked if she could open the door to talking about her husband, she says, "just a little" before addressing his forays into hip-hop. "He goes into the studio and has his own vibe," she says. "I'm really impressed."

Clearly she has been burned by the endless scrutiny of her marriage. "Look at Jennifer Aniston – she went on Oprah just to say she's okay," says Spears. "It does affect you to a certain extent. It has to. I don't take myself so seriously, but when you've been poked at and poked at, there's going to come a time when you're going to snap."

Late in the interview, Spears's face lights up during a call to Federline to arrange their evening plans; the pair exchange easy laughs about Sean P. It is that little guy, after all, who has changed the singer's world for good. And she is keenly aware that juggling her fierce ambitions with the sometimes messy contradictions of motherhood – that unique mix of vulnerability and invincibility – will test her like nothing else. "In the car on the way here, I was crying because I was listening to country music," she says. "I love L.A., but I know what I am. I'm a country girl at heart. I long to be at home. I like that simplicity for my child. I really, really do."

A bodyguard drove her straight to Los Angeles' Malibu Urgent Care Centre.

Pop star Britney Spears rushed to hospital with her baby son Sean Preston, after the young one wouldn't stop wailing and turned red faced.

Arrived at the Malibu emergency room, the young mom and her bodyguard were embarrassed to discovered that little Sean was only constipated.

Nurses changed the baby and assured Britney there is nothing to worry about.

One nurse told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "It seems he was just straining to fill his diaper. We gave him a quick change and clean up and he was fine."

Britney left Los Angeles' Malibu Urgent Care Centre out of a side door to avoid paparazzi, and one of her assistants collected Sean from the hospital a few minutes later.

Britney Brings Mardi Gras Cheer!

Not even the devastation of Hurricane Katrina could stop Mardi Gras, and now Louisiana native BRITNEY SPEARS is bringing smiles to Bourbon Street for some very deserving Louisiana residents.

"I'm here with some little girls that went through the hurricane and I'm here to show them a good time," Britney tells our KEVIN FRAZIER. "We went shopping, which was so much fun. We were able to take them shopping and get them new clothes."

New mom Britney appears on ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday morning to spread goodwill to those in need and help celebrate the first Mardi Gras after the life-changing natural disaster.

And although she says the devastated city still has an "eerie feeling," she feels that if any city can bounce back, it's the Big Easy. "I think New Orleans has a very strong sense of soul here," she says.

Mardi Gras is very different this year as the city of New Orleans copes with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced hundreds of thousands of people on the Gulf Coast last September.

Attendance is down significantly at the 150th Carnival season compared to the previous year, and local businesses are feeling the pinch. The celebration has been cut down to eight days, down from the usual 12 leading up to Fat Tuesday. And while many believe Mardi Gras should have been cancelled this year, many more see this year's fest as a return to "normalcy," representing the triumph of the human spirit after the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.

"I am honored to be part of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans this year," says the Grammy® winner. "It is so important for this amazing city to continue its annual traditions."

Meanwhile, Britney tells ET that she's back to work in both the TV and music worlds. Britney recently taped an episode of "Will & Grace," which she says was a blast. "SEAN HAYES is absolutely hilarious," Britney says. "It's one of my favorite shows on TV."

And she's headed back to the recording studio as well! "I'm at the very beginning process," she says. "I'm just kind of feeling it out."

wagsgirl - that's a lot of "what if"s...but if ALL those cases were true, she should have gone to the car. There is NO EXCUSE for changing a diaper in the middle of a public restaurant, and ITA, it HAS to be against SOME sort of health code!!! I don't think "going to your car is out of the question" is realistic...how else would you get to the restaurant, walk? And if you were within walking distance, why not just go home to change him/her? Kwim? IMO, as a mom, you don't put yourself in situations where you don't have better access for changing your child than the dinner table(whether that be your car, asking the manager to use an office if you are B.S., whatever). FWIW, I don't believe Brit would be anywhere without quick access to a car if she needed it either.

The reason I asked was I was confronted with this EXACT situation. DD had a poopy diaper. Bathroom had no changer or counter with the sink. Bathroom floor was ick. No real "office" to speak of (forgot about that one). It was winter, so I couldn't change DD in the car (smaller car at the time with no room really for a diaper change with the door closed and car seat in there, etc). FWIW, I didn't change her on the table, but had no choice but to change her in our booth. I wanted to see what other people would have done in my situation. :)

And I'd never heard of a restaurant not having a changing table in this day and age. Especially the restaurant we were at, as it is a chain, family place. So, I wasn't prepared, thinking that I'd be okay, KWIM?

I had that situation recently. The restaurant bathroom didn't have a counter or a table so I used my changing mat that came with my diaper bag and laid out a bunch of paper towels on the floor. I wrangled her around to where I could change her and hold her hands so she couldn't touch anything. Not ideal but what are ya gonna do? It didn't even occur to me to take her out to the car. :rolleyes: Probably would've been easier.

ETA: It was an upscale restaurant and the floor wasn't absolutely disgusting looking.

I don't think she had breast implants, never did. When the whole controversy came up years ago she grew all over and her bb's grew with her. I had a friend who grew just as much in HS in only a few months. Plus I don't think her bb's look fake at all. Even well done implants under the muscle look perkier than hers do in most outfits.

As for being pg, I think she is. Unless she happens to be gaining weight just in her belly all of a sudden :rolleyes:

I noticed that too. At first glance it may appear to be an incision mark, but an incision that's made in the breast fold doesn't go all the way across the underside of the breast. They are usually, at most, maybe 2 inches in length. ITA that they've fluctuated way too much over the years for her to have implants. There are some pics before *this* supposed pregnancy, where she actually looks pretty small uptop, IMO.

Regarding the restaurant changing diaper incident..

if there wasn't a changing table in the bathroom, I would have gone to my car... she's usually rolling around in an SUV and should have had plenty of room to change her son in the backseat. We did that on a road trip - so we wouldn't have to use gas station bathrooms.

I thinkchanging a diaper in public anywhere is completely disgusting and I can't believe that it was tolerated.

This happened to me on an airplane last December. The woman sitting next to me changed her baby's poopy diaper in the seat next to mine, AFTER HE HAD GRABBED MY SUNGLASSES, which were no underneath him. The flight attendant kept telling her to stop and continue in the bathroom, where there was a changing table. She refused, and finished up in the seat next to mine. I was utterly disgusted. The flight attendant then handed the woman some disinfectant wipes to wipe down the seat and armrests, per OSHA regs. The woman refused, and became abusive. Finally, the flight attendant asked the woman to move to another seat, in the back, because her behavior and language were disturbing to other passengers. She left, calling it a "shitty airline," (well, it was now!), and complaining about the "bad service quite loudly. Finally, the flight attendant started wiping down the seat next to mine with the disinfectant wipes. I felt so bad, I helped her.

She even gave me wipes for my sunglasses.

It was a nightmare.

I changed a messy diaper in a restaurant, once. It was a well-known "family" chain and there was no changing table in the bathroom. There was no counter and the floor was really dirty, too. I was fuming mad at the establishment. I didn't want to change in our booth, but I felt like management had left us with no choice. And if it was gross, it might encourage them to install changing tables in the men's and women's restrooms.

My kids are way past the diaper stage, but if I had to do it over again, I'd take the smelly baby up to the manager and ask to use his office. That makes a point without punishing others. At the time, the thought didn't occur to me, and I was in shock that they wouldn't have changing tables.
