We just watched it this weekend. It was so amazing. I can't believe that their species has survived for as long as it has.

I love penguins so, I had to get this movie! I agree, it's really amazing to see how they've found a way to survive in such a harsh climate.

And they're so funny to watch when they walk! :D

I watched this when it was out in theatres. It was fantastic! I plan to buy it on DVD so DD can watch it when she's older.

I love this film!! I was explaining it to a friend:

"they all line up and walk for 3 months, one old guy got left behind, and he probably died. I cried. Then they try and find a mate, some get left out. I cired. The young were too slow with their egg. I cried. The daddies huddled together, more dropepd their eggs, I cried. The mom came back to feed their babies. Some were too late, I cried. The babies grew up, and made their way to the water. One got eaten by a seal, I cried."

LOL--That about sums up my reaction, too. DH thought I was crazy (as usual)--I pretty much cried start to finish, tears of joy and tears of pain. I LOVED it!!!!!

I liked it a lot, just because the penguins are truly amazing, but I definitely saw better documentaries this year. I thought "March of the Penguins" was a little simplified and there were several points in the film where I had questions about the biology of the penguins and details of their environment that went unanswered. But the penguins were really sweet and the filmmakers did a good job of making their plight an emotional experience.

Can you imagine how cold it was for the film crew??

DH and I watched it a few weeks ago on DVD. Maybe it's cold-hearted, but as a biologist he mostly talked about how terribly inefficient their reproduction is. I find it amazing that they haven't adapted their routine somehow in so many generations. And of course I felt terrible and wanted to go up and build them a cozy penguin hotel to stay warm. :(

We saw it in the theater with our three month old (she slept through the whole thing). Our son had been stillborn three months prior and both DH and I sobbed like fools whenever someone died or it was implied that someone died. If I had seen this movie four months prior I would have remembered it as a neat documentary. Instead I remember it as a very sad movie.
Now if this thread was about "Wedding Crashers", the first movie DD saw when she was two months old, well THAT would be a different story! ;)

I really enjoyed this movie, too! DH & I saw it in the theater several months ago. I was fascinated by the routine these penguins go through to mate & reproduce in such harsh conditions.

I was also pleasantly surprised when my grandmother told me she went to see the movie with her neighbor recently. She hasn't been to a movie in...I don't know...like 3-4 years at least? She has trouble sitting still for that long, plus according to her the subject matter of most movies doesn't appeal to her because everything is targeted at a younger generation these days. But she'd read reviews of March of the Penguins & couldn't resist going to see it...& of course she loved it & was really glad she went. :)
