I had an interview yesterday and am trying to figure out who I need to send thank you/ follow-up letters to. I interviewed with several people, a couple of which I know I need to send them to, but a couple others I'm not sure about.
-One guy was at a director level and gave me a tour of the facility, do I need to thank him for his time? He told me if I was hired and ever need anything to come to him. I feel that this is someone that I would interact with a lot of I got the job.
- The HR lady was in on the interview with the GM, but she didn't say much or ask any questions. I did a phone interview with her several months ago and followed up with her after that.
- I met with a lady that would be a subordinate of mine, but she has been with the company for many years.

So would you send letters to any of these people?

If you met with them, I would send them a thank you. I interviewed with 8 people for this job, including 2 people who didn't interview me but just took me out to lunch, and sent them all thank-you notes for their time and for answering my questions. The only people who did NOT get thank you notes were the people who came to sit in on my presentation (the presentation was also part of the interview process). Really, you can't go wrong if you cover all your bases! :)

I agree with sending them to everyone. Each person took time out of their day to meet with you, and a quick note thanking them for their time is appropriate. I don't think you can go wrong with "overthanking"! :D

Numberlady - I have a question about your thank you. I am currently interviewing as well and so far I have only sent thank you's on email. I would like to send hard copy ones for two interviews I have on Friday. Should I type them up or handwrite them on a card?

Thanks - Christine

Thanks Hula & Heather, I think I agree with you. Actually while I was typing the post I was thinking, why am I even asking, if I have to ask, I should just send them to all the people.

Christine, I have always sent typed thank you's any time I have interviewed. Others may have a different opinion and it might depend on the industry you are in too. I am an accountant, so to me it is important to get across that I can communicate in a professional manner.
