Okay, that title is wierd.

What I am wondering, is how much is reasonable for a birthday party at a restaurant/hall? I am in the NYC/NJ area which is more expensive than most of the rest of the country  , but any 'metro' area pricing would be helpful to know so I can get fair pricing.

Right now we are looking at a restaurant with a banquet room to host our son's 1st bday party. The lunch or brunch menus for the adults are about $25pp, including appetizer/salad, entree & sides, dessert, non-alcoholic beverages. Not back yet with the kid's menus. From what I recall of my wedding planning days, this was a competetive price.

What did you pay pp for the adult menu? The kid's menu?
What kind of food did you serve the kids that was a hit?

I think we'll have about 10 kids around 1 year old, a handful under 10 years old.

TIA! :)

We chose a casual restaurant for DD's 1st birthday. I think the pricing was $19.95 per person (kids were $14.95 but got the same food as the adults). We served Italian Beef with peppers and rolls, baked ziti, a chicken and veggie pasta, caesar salad, chopped salad, pizza, veggies and fruit and cheese/meat tray as the appetizers, cake and beverages. The pricing did not include an 18% gratutity which was added or tax. We live outside of Chicago. The prices we paid I think were on the lower side, but we also wanted it to be very casual and really liked the party room at this restaurant. I think $25 sounds reasonable. Also, it was worth every penny not to have her party at our house.

we're in the los angeles area -- we rented an area in a park and had the food catered. i got the food from a nice restaurant, but we stuck with sandwiches, grilled veggies and salads and it was $15. pp. i think we paid about $7. pp for kids (chicken fingers, potato wedges, fruit salad). we also paid for our rentals which you wouldn't have to worry about having it in a restaurant.

We had DD's B-day party at our home, but for her baptism we hosted a lunch at a nice Italian resturant in the Boston area. I can't remember what it was per person exactly, but we had about 40-45 people (about 8 kids) and it ran us around $1600 for the food and an open bar.

We did it buffet style with appetizers (3), bread, 2 salads, 2 pasta dishes, a chicken, and a fish dish. We brought in a cake and were charged a small cutting fee. I think they charged us about 8-10/per kid?

Just found out that kids 3 and under are free, kids 4-10 are $12 for kids menu.
So far this sounds reasonable.....
