My poor DD is still sick. She has been congested since the first week of January. Last Wednesday, it seemed to move down to her chest and she developed a horrible cough. I have taken her to the dr. several times, most recently, last Thursday where I was told she had 2 ear infections. She was put on antiobiotics and the dr. told me she should be a lot better by Saturday. Well, it's Monday now and she still is super congested and still has a horrible cough. I have to take her back to the dr. today.

She went through about a week of having horrible diarrhea every 1-2 hours, but we switched her formula and that seems to have fixed that.

Does anyone know how long I should expect this to last? I am really starting to worry.

Don't really have much advise, but just wanted to say I'm sorry!! I know it is no fun to have a sick baby!!!

She went through about a week of having horrible diarrhea every 1-2 hours,

This could have been from the antiobiotics too.

She was over the diarrhea by the time we started the antibiotics so it wasn't from that. Sorry, my post was probably a little confusing...my brain is a little scattered these days!

The first cold my DD had lasted for at least 3 weeks. Poor baby, I'm sorry she's so sick :(

3 weeks....hopefully DD's cold won't last longer than that. We are getting close to the 3 week mark now.

I just got back from the dr. He took a couple of swabs to test for RSV, but after listening to her lungs, he is pretty sure that is what she has. We will find out for sure this afternoon though. He said the typical virus usually lasts 7-10 days so we just have to wait it out. Her oxygen level was at 92 so he didn't think we needed to go to the hospital to have her put on a breathing treatment.

Oh poor baby - DS was sick with a horrible cold from 6 weeks old to 10 weeks - it was miserable.

I know for us it helped to have him sleep in his car seat or swing - he seemed alot more comfortable that way. Just our experience....

Hope your baby feels better.....

~Hugs!~ We had RSV around 3-4 months. It is horrible!!!!! It sounds like her oxygen level is fine, so try to relax and cuddle. It will pass, I promise!

Just got over RSV in Dec--it happens and can be very common. Hope you little one is feeling better soon!

Just wanted to say I hope your little one gets better soon! DD was sick last month and it was horrible, though she didn't have anything as unpleasant as RSV. Do you have a humidifier for her room? We also found that saline nose drops seemed to help break up the congestion in her nose a bit.

Thanks everyone. I am hoping we are past the worst of it. DD seems happy for the most part. She is a little fussier than usual, but otherwise seems to be doing fine. I just hate hearing her cough.

Tiger, my son just got diagnosed w/ RSV today.

We were told the same thing about how it usually last 7-10 days. There's a breathing at home treatment but the doc said it only supressed the cough and only works in 40% of the cases, and some insurance companies don't cover it.

How's her sleep? My son will sleep for 30-45 minutes, then start screaming... I am exhausted.

Tiger, your original post sounds just like my DD's illness (minus the diarrhea). She only has one ear infection and the chest x-ray came back clear. Her cough is just awful and my doctors seem to have no remedy...... They think she may have allergies, but the pediatric allergist can't see her until April.

Any suggestions? This has been going on since January 2nd. She is in a great mood, so they think nothing is wrong with her, but the cough is scary. We have been to the doctor every week this month and I have no idea what to ask for. She is currently on an anti-histamine and anti-biotics.

Just wanted to make a quick post to say that DD RSV test came back negative. The dr. thinks it is still just something viral that needs to run its course. She is better today than she was last week so I am hoping she is getting better.

neenbean So sorry to hear you are going through this too. It is just terrible to hear them cough and not be able to do anything to help. I don't have any help for you. I hope your DD gets better soon. Please let me know if you find anything out!

onomatopoeia DD has been getting up 2-3 times a night...well, she actually wakes up more than that, but she is able to put herself back to sleep the other times. I am sorry to hear you have to deal with RSV. Fortunately, DD doesn't have it, but we are still dealing with the congestion and coughing. It is terrible. I hope your DS gets better soon!
