Big hugs to Pamela & MichelleRenee! Take it easy for a few days ladies!
jbemommy - luckily I don't really need to buy much in the way of maternity clothes since my kids will be born in the same season. Maybe just a few pairs of shorts since I was working last time and I'm not now.
jennifelynne - I'm totally showing faster this time around! What I look like now was probably closer to 16-ish weeks when I was PG w/ DD. Last time, you couldn't really tell I was PG until around 5 months.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Michelle & Pamela: Hope you two are getting lots of rest. Those scares are very nerve wracking. Sounds like you have great support at work Pamela!
Not much happening around here. I still feel pretty normal, which is odd. The only exception is that my boobs are really sore at night. Other than that if I didn't already know I was pg I would never believe it.
We're telling my mom, brother & sister today! I'll let you know how it goes. These are the first people IRL that we are telling besides the Dr. obviously. Next Monday is my big all clear appt so I think we wil tell everyone else after that appt.
Have a great Sunday and for those of you is the US enjoy the oscars.

Hi ladies,
Just got in from FL, had a good time.
Not much to report on the baby front. Have an appt next week and than another the week after with the specialist.
QOTD: I had lost 1 lb at my last appt and doctor wants to make sure I don't lose anymore. Hubby wants me to get the nurtrition shakes to make sure I get all the vitamins and minerals I need.

Yesterday, DH and I went to something called an "Outgrown Sale" that a local elementary school was having as a fundraiser. We bought a used infant car seat (that will be used as a back-up) and a Carter's bouncy seat (one of the ones that vibrates, and plays all different types of music, and has the hanging toys to play with) in brand-new condition. Our total monies spent was $30!!!!! Oh ... included in that $30 was a giant Pooh Bear that DH just had to buy. LOL!
So, we have officially bought something now. :D

Pamela and Michelle - I'm so sorry about your scares that both of you had! I'm glad that things are looking good though.
RoxyGirl and Marathongirl- Cute belly shots! :)
Jbemommy - I'm glad that your morning sickness has gotten better. It must have been so much fun looking at maternity clothes!
Slvspring - Glad to hear that you first dr. appointment went well!
Ericka - Glad you had a good time in Florida!
Bubeleh - Have fun telling your family! I can't wait to hear their reaction.
Rippy - Yay for buying your first baby stuff! And what a deal you got!
Cute ultrasound pics everybody! I love seeing them. :)
My weekend has been pretty good. I actually got up the guts to walk through Babys R Us just to look around. I had lots of fun, but talk about overwhelming! It was just kind of cool to walk around and see all of the fun stuff. :)

pamela - you poor thing! how absolutely frightening. I'm so glad that everything is okay with the baby.
I had done some reading on subchorionic hematomas (I read up on what seemed like *everything* that could possibly explain early PG bleeding/spotting since I was spotting consistently for the first couple of weeks) and while it seems like it was incredibly scary, it sounds like they usually resolve themselves over time, and don't cause any harm to you or the baby... keep us posted and take it easy!!! :)

michelle and pamela--I'm so glad your scares both turned out okay! What a relief!
I haven't lost or gained any weight. . . . . but, I'm getting bigger. My hips are bigger, my tummy is bigger (rounder), and my upper thighs are. Sigh. Oh well!
DH and I went shopping today. We went to Kohls and WOW, were they having a sale! We looked at baby clothes/toys and then, since the sales were really good, I bought 2 maternity T's and 1 pair of khaki pants (though the pants are cropped, they look silly on me cuz I'm short, so I have to roll them up!) Anyway, we got home and I tried them on with a pillow stuffed in my shirt! Hehehe. I can't imagine being 9 months pg and being that big! Wow!
We also checked out some stuff at Target--mostly strollers and car seats. DH wanted to buy them both today (on sale!) but I suggested we might want to register for them. . . . . because if someone else wants to buy them for us, who are we to stop them! :) So far, we like the Graco brand. We also picked up a couple of bibs--"I love Grandma and I Love Grandpa."
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Total was so surreal. We bought a rose bush as a house warming present for my mom becuase they had just finished renovating their house, and I attached a card the had the "plant themed poem". And she read it and just kind of looked at me and then smiled then she said "wait are you serious" then she cried, screamed omg about a million times and wouldn't let go of me the rest of the afternoon. It was pretty funny.
It is kind of weird that someone else IRL knows. I kind of enjoyed the time where it was our little secret.

MichelleRenee and Pamela, big hugs to you two. I am so glad to hear that everything is looking good with your little ones.
lawgirl, thanks for posting the Cuba pictures!! I am not sure we will be able to go this summer (we would only have a few weeks in June to go between when FH comes home from China and I am banned (by my insurance) from travelling outside the EU), but as long as the northerly neighbours don't adopt a "regime change" policy, Cuba will still be there in a couple of years. Just FTR, even though we're American citizens, we'd have no problem going there because we live in the UK these days.
Some friends of ours bought me a pregnancy magazine, which I was leafing through this morning... There was a feature about travel systems which completely freak me out. Mostly because shop aisles and sidewalks in Britain are so narrow and people with their kids in huge strollers think they own the road and I am determined never to be one of those people... especially not for several hundred pounds! Yikes!

And another thing... Are those of you who are due towards the beginning of October rather than the end starting to feel better? Can I start looking forward to a settled stomach any time soon?
lawgirl4
03-06-2006, 07:04 AM
qc - I'm due in the first half of October, and while the nausea has subsided a bit, I woke up today to discover that heartburn has hit big time!!!! Ugh. So my guess is that things are just going to come and go from here on in!
on that note... I woke up feeling so weird! At first I thought my body was getting ready to vomit, but then I realized it felt different. And bingo - I realized it's heartburn. is there any food that those with heartburn find to be more soothing? I know to stay away from acidic things, but I'm wondering what kinds of foods make it feel better. Probably something with the consistency of chocolate pudding... Any suggestions, other than Tums, would be appreciated!

I am starting to feel a little better, I think. This weekend was fine, but on my way into work this morning, it was pretty bad. I think that was my own fault though. I usually eat something really small at home and then something more substantial when I get into my office. I think I'm going to have to eat more sooner instead of waiting.
I am flying on Sunday and at my last appointment, I asked my OB about taking something for motion sickness. I always take something and wanted to see if it was ok. She got out her little book and said Dramamine was a "class B" drug and it was ok to take. I should have asked her to clarify, but does anyone know if class B is not as safe as class A, maybe? I can put up with the motion sickness if I will be putting an uneccesary risk by taking the medicine.
The day after I get back from my trip, I have another appointment with ultrasound. I'll be 11 weeks, 1 day and if all looks well, we will tell my parents that weekend and then a few close friends. As soon as we do that, the news will spread like wild fire. I can't believe we have kept it a secret this long!

Boy you ladies had a rough weekend - feeling better I hope?
Taterbaby - I know the meds I take are Class B and my doc has said they are all fine. I think if she said they were ok - you should be fine. But if you are nervous about it check -www.drugs.com - I think that is where I checked mine.

Had a low-key weekend. I took a lovely nap on Saturday and then DH and I went out for pancakes for dinner. But, once I got my food, I didn't want to eat most of it. The sausage was just icky to me and I got nervous about the eggs because I wasn't sure if they were cooked. But, I still had plenty to eat with the pancakes themselves so it was all good. Yesterday I just stayed inside, it was snowing out most of the day and I ended up watching lots of TV- yay for satellite.
MichelleRenee The spotting is so scary! As long as it's brown, it should be ok. It's red bleeding with cramping that signals a m/c. Some days I've had just about that much spotting as well. I'm on pelvic rest until the spotting has stopped for 7 days, but was never told I was high risk. I hope that's the worst scare you get.
emermel How annoying, I hope you never have to deal with such a tech again. But, at least in the end you got to see the baby and h/b!
Pamela Scary! I hope you're doing alright now. I had a friend who had a subchorionic bleed early in her pregnancy, she was on bed rest for awhile but everything turned out fine. She has an adorable, healthy baby girl right now.

Taterbaby - if your doctor said you can take it, I would feel comfortable with that.
qc - I'm due near the beginning of October and have been blessed with only about 2-3 weeks of m/s started at 6 weeks. I was never actually sick, just nauseaus.
me - hard to believe in about 11 weeks will find out the sex of our baby. :) Jarett asked me while down in FL what I thought of the name Bryce. Looks like we have a boy's name, I get to choose the middle,, which I am tossed on. Now to think of girl names we both like and we are set.

You can find out more about what the drug categories mean here (http://www.answers.com/topic/pregnancy-category). When I was doing research into anti-malarials, I also found that the Australian classification system was a lot more helpful. Their B category is broken into sub groups according to "no risk because there haven't been any good studies done" and "maybe risk but the studies were crap" and whatnot.
Good Morning,
MichelleRenee and Pamela, I'm sorry to hear about the scare you both had over the weekend. I hope you're both feeling better.
Our weekend was pretty boring, we basically just lounged around.
Today is my first appointment, I'm leaving work in an hour, wish me luck/

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and well wishes! I'm feeling better, just lying around with my feet up all day. I'm still spotting a bit of old blood, but is just my body getting rid of old blood and nothing to worry about.
MichelleRenee, I hope your spotting is better! It is such a scary thing.
lawgirl, subchorionic bleeds are not real uncommon, and usually turn out to be fine. Bleeding in the first trimester is also not uncommon either, and also usually ends up being ok. But there was just so much blood and it was bright red. Scariest day of my life. So I'm just sitting around letting it heal. Hopefully it resolves and doesn't do it again, or else I'll be on bed rest for awhile.
Bubeleh, so cute how you told your parents!
Quartercentury, I'm due at the begining of October, and my morning sickness has been gone for about a week now. I only had it for a few weeks, and it was only really bad for about one week, and then it just disappeared one day. I'm hoping that was the end of it.

My nausea had mostly subsided about two weeks ago. Even my tiredness was starting to get better.
All of a sudden, right before dinner yesterday, my lunch came up out of the blue!!! :eek: :o That is only the second time I've been sick ... but there has been no nausea so I thought I was over it. :(
Now today, once again, nothing sounded good to me for lunch. All I want is Chick-Fil-A ... and it's too far away. So, nothing is satisfying. :rolleyes:
Sorry for everyone's scares this weekend!!! After reading your posts, I had a dream that I was bleeding. It was so real that when I woke up, I had to go in the bathroom and check!
Awww ... Pamela, I love your little froggy. :D

Threadmistress: Sorry to be a bother, but you changed my belly picture but forgot to change the "title." That is my 6w2d picture, but you have it labeled as 5w2d. Thanks!
Sigh. I feel like I am not allowed to enjoy my pregnancy now. It seems that everyone IRL's way of being supportive is to say "well, anything could happen. I wouldn't get too excited." when I try to talk about baby stuff. It's like they are trying to say "well you're gonna miscarry anyways so why bother." Just because I had spotting this weekend does not mean I am going to give up on this baby and pretend it doesn't exist anymore. I'm still going to keep planning and being excited regardless of how high risk I am.
So in addition to the rude comments I am having mixed feelings of antsiness and fatigue. I want to go out and shop around for baby stuff and stuff for spring, but I know I am supposed to be home resting and I am tired anyways.
I just want the next 6 weeks to pass quickly and uneventfully so i can start being excited about Reesie again.

Hey ladies - I'm technically a Sept. '06 mommy-to-be (edd 9/28/06) but I sometimes lurk in here since I'm so far "behind" most of the women in my month group. Just thought I'd let you know I'm here rather than be random anonymous lurker.
Also, I wanted to particularly thank the women that are due in very early October for posting u/s pictures. This time I won't be getting any u/s's until the "big" one around 20 weeks (this is my second child and I was high risk last time so I got lots of u/s's). So I'm particularly enjoying living vicariously through you all so I can see what's up with us as well.

Pamela - oh so cute! The little legs picture! Did you actually see it moving around or is that just a different angle?
Michelle - I'm sorry your family is being so unsupportive! How absolutely mean spirited to bring you down like that! Well *we* all know that spotting does not necessarily mean miscarriage, and you can chat away about baby all you like with us because that little baby in there is still there, still sticking and still has a chance! ((hugs))
octoberkate - hiya! good to see you around! I kinda feel teh same boat, I've been given a tentative date of September 28th now?!?!!? Actually I've been given anywhere from Septebember 28th to Oct 10th!! geesh! I'm sticking to my Oct 6th prediction! But you are more than welcome to come in here and chat if you want!

Rippy, I keep imagining that I feel more bleeding and check a lot too. Sorry to hear about your being sick coming back. Its not fair that it happens without warning too!
MichelleRenee, sorry to hear everyone is being so negative. That is really not helpful of them, and just plain mean.
maplekitty, when the ultrasound tech had that little rear view of the baby on the screen we could see the little legs and these teeny tiny feet and they were kicking like crazy! It looked exactly like a little frog kicking. Truly one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Its hard to believe that there is so much wild kicking going on inside me and I can't feel a thing!

Hi everyone. Hope you're all doing well. I promised myself I wasn't going to come in here and complain about my nausea again... so I won't. Let's just say it's been a rough few days and I am counting down the days till the second trimester!
Pamela: I absolutely love that second little froggy shot. So cute!
Michelle: I'm sorry people are being so negative. I suppose they're just trying to keep you cautious but you're worried enough! You don't need them sucking all the joy out of this for you. Besides, spotting is very common. I spotted with DS at 5 weeks and then again around 11 weeks, and everything turned out just fine.
Kate: Good to see you in here! With DS, I used to lurk a lot in the thread due the month before me (April '04) and he actually turned out to be an April baby anyway since he came almost 2.5 weeks early.
Rippy: If I remember right, that's about how my nausea went last time. You have stretches where you feel pretty good and they gradually get longer and longer till eventually you feel good all the time. But it definitely comes and goes for a while. I thought it would disappear magically overnight around 12 weeks but no such luck! Hope you feel good again soon!
hi,
I just got back from my appt. and it was a bit uneventful. They took 6 vials of blood- fun stuff!
The NP felt my cervix and said it felt "right" for 7 weeks. She did an (regular) ultrasound but we couldn't really see anything. She thought she saw the sac but wasn't positve and said it was a bit too early to see anything so I shouldn't be worried but after looking at some other 7 week pictures, I'm nervous that we didn't see anything. She also said my bladder wasn't full so that might be another reason for not seeing anything.
Ericka_Jarett
03-06-2006, 01:32 PM
nic - they may not have seen anything because it's actually too early to see anything with an external u/s. I had a vaginal u/s and that's when we saw the baby. The tech told me up until about 8 weeks they do vaginal u/s to see the baby since it's so small before than. After 8 weeks you have a better chance of seeing it externally. So don't be nervous, I think all the u/s pics you have seen so far were taken internally, I know mine was.
Thanks Erica, that makes me feel better.
She told me beforehand that we probably wouldn't see anything but I still felt a bit nervous.
emermel
03-06-2006, 01:57 PM
Nic:
Even with a VERY full bladder, I don't think that the tech saw anything on the external ultrasound...which is why I ended up with an internal (and I was almost 8 weeks).
Feeling pretty good today...felt LOUSY last night. I seem to be very prone to motion sickness these days. Every time I turned around to look at DD in her carseat I wanted to barf. I didn't, but I sure wanted to. The nausea lasted for a while too...I ended up going to bed shortly after DD (around 8:30).
Boobs: All of a sudden, I look like the Incredible Hulk...they are huge and veiny...I noticed those on Saturday. Gross. They also seem to be getting more sensitive...but not NEARLY as bad as with DD.
Food...nothing looks good, but I feel better when I eat and I eat a lot!
Glad to hear that everyone is feeling OK today!

Happy Monday!
I am sorry that you had such a scare Michelle and Pamela. I am glad that things are better now. That little froggy shot is so cute!
I had a really long post on Friday that disappeared. I just didn't have the time to write up another. We went to Lake Tahoe for the weekend with a group of friends. It was beautiful. I was going to go skiing but went for a massage instead. It was heaven!! I felt so relaxed afterward. I plan on getting a massage once a month if possible.
Still having bouts of nausea. I have actually gotten sick a handful of times. I did feel better over the weekend. Today has been a different story. My stomach has been unsettled all day. Eating hasn't really helped. :(
I have to get back to work. I will be back hopefully to do some s/o's. I hope that everybody is feeling good.

I love seeing all of the ultrasound pictures!
I am so envious of those of you who are getting ultrasounds! According to the info we got from the Dr. we don't get one until 20 weeks. :(
I'm hoping that they will do one at my next appt but from what I have read, it sounds like they are only going to do a doppler for the heartbeat. Oh well, I'm just living vicariously through you and loving all of the ultrasound shots!
lawgirl4
03-06-2006, 02:21 PM
nic - I also wanted to reiterate that I am pretty sure that most of the u/s pics we've posted were from internal, not external ultrasounds. not to worry!! :)
MichelleRenee
03-06-2006, 02:45 PM
Thanks for the support, everyone, but it is NOT my family that is being unsupportive. It is just random people we know (wouldn't really call them friends) who happen to always find out what's going on with our lives and find a way to make us feel miserable about it. If it were my actual family acting like that I don't know what I'd do!!!!
Pamela
03-06-2006, 02:59 PM
The ultrasound I just had was an external one. If she hadn't been able to see everything she needed to, the tech said that she'd do an internal one also, but the external one was so good that she didn't need to. And while it is really awesome to see my little froggy, the only reason I've had any ultrasounds so far is because I've been bleeding, they're not routine.

Sorry to hear about the spotting MichelleRenee and Pamela but I'm glad everything looks good. Unfortunately add me to the list of spotters. I went to the bathroom a few hours ago and had some pinkish spotting I haven't had anything since but it still made my heart sink. I called my doctors office but everyone was gone for the day. I'll call first thing in the morning and they'll probably send my for bloodwork and an ultrasound. I think being 6 1/2 weeks pg is taboo for me. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 6 1/2 weeks, I had spotting with DD at 6 1/2 weeks, and here I am again spotting at 6 1/2 weeks. So I feel my chances are 50/50 that everything will be ok. I'll let everyone know how it goes tomorrow, hopefully I'll have good news...

Hi ladies. Boy did I miss a lot. I was away for the week and weekend (wedding) so I'm catching up. I HAVE read everything but I'm sure I'll forget to comment on it all. I took some notes though, so here goes.
Welcome to Nic, Jennifer, Summer! Happy and healthy 9 months to you!
dlj78 - I don't know if you are even reading along, but I'm terribly sorry for your loss.
Michelle, Pamela and Kerrykate - best of luck with the bleeding. I think if we made a list of all the spotters on this thread we'd be surprised at the high percentage. Hang in there.
Ericka - Bryce is on our short list too!!! I love it. We have a Y in our last name so I want a name with a Y in it. Good choice by DH.
Taterbaby - My friend is a pharmacist and she says there are virtually NO class A drugs. Class B is what they aim for as being good. So, I would trust your doctor on it.
Octoberkate - My due date is Sept. 29 and I joined this thread after talking to a bunch of people who said that since it was my first baby I might be late anyway. I didn't want to be the last one standing in the Sept. thread and I knew it would stress me to see all their progress so far ahead of me. I'd be too anxious! So feel free to convert if you want, you'd be welcomed!
Ok, now, as for me. Nausea is still here. Mostly when my stomach is empty. I did eat some cereal this morning though, but still had to turn around and come back home twice on my attempts to drive to work. I wonder if the car is bothering me a bit. I feel yucky on the ride home too, but I've always chaulked that up to being hungry for dinner. Never actually gotten sick though. Is anyone actually getting sick on a regular basis or are we mostly just nauseous?
Tom'w I have my appt. with Maternal Fetal Medicine. They are going to review some screening tests etc that they will offer to me based on genetic counseling we had last year. What screening tests are you all going to do if any? I'm sure I'll have lots of questions when I get home tom'w.
I'm starting to feel really uncomfortable in my clothes and I've already gained 9 of the 20 lbs I'm allowed. Something has to change. I was at my heaviest when I got pg (poor planning/willpower). Not the way to go. I really feel huge already. Thanks for all the belly shots from you skinny gals! It helps me visualize what's going on under my padding :D
When I went for my 8 week blood tests I also had to do a glucose tolerance test. I thought they were done in the 30's weeks??? Did anyone else do this? Any thoughts as to why? I thought GD was something you develop while pg, I didn't think they could screen for it. Maybe my starting weight put me at risk for reg. diabetes or something? I'm clueless.
Ultrasounds - I had both internal and external (my pic is internal). It was 8w0d. I wonder why I just saw a blob but other people are seeing limbs etc? No one seemed concerned and the heartbeat was great. But I barely saw anything compared to these great pics you all are posting. hmmm.
Ok, off to make dinner.
MichelleRenee

Is anyone actually getting sick on a regular basis or are we mostly just nauseous?
I just get nauseous when I haven't eaten, when I eat somethign too greasy, and at the end of the day. (I seem to get a nauseous feeling like I ate WAY too much throughout the day, much like you get after a day at a picnic with endless food, or a Christmas party)
What screening tests are you all going to do if any?
None, as of now. I'm not sure what my doctor will say when I go in on Friday though.
The spotting continues, but a lot lighter. (in volume and a little bit in color too) I wish it would end entirely because my heart still drops whenever I use the restroom and see that brownish color. I feel fine though. No cramping or anything. I am a bit tired and I seem to be out of breath easily, but I chalk that up to being so tired. Even being exhausted and having the night off I am still doing dishes, organizing my filing cabinet, and trying to color coordinate my closet. I just don't know how to stop and relax!!

With my first pregnancy the doctor sent for for an early 1 hour GTT at about 20 weeks. It came back as over 200 so I was to go to the specialist. It's usually around 30 weeks that they do it. Unless they feel you are gaining too much too fast, or your bloodwork comes in that your sugar was a bit high or you are showing signs of sugar during your urine tests at each visit.
I had a blood sugar test done with the rest of my pregnancy bloodwork at 8 weeks, because the doctor wanted to check and see how my sugar was, so if it was high, we could start treatment early. I will have a GTT probably earlier than most again, most likely around 20 weeks again.
Pamela & Michelle - So sorry to hear about your scares. I'm glad that everything turned out ok.
Quartercentury - I totally understand how you're feeling. My m/s has finally started to lift. Yay! I'm hoping that by 12-14 wks it'll be pretty much completely gone. Hang in there.
lawgirl4 - I hear you about the heartburn. It's not consistent, but when it does happen it's really uncomfortable. I haven't found any foods that relieve it, but drinking ice cold water really helps me.
Taterbaby - It was the same with me this morning too. All weekend I was great, and then this morning and then again in the late afternoon I felt so queasy. I noticed though that the closer I get to a new week, the worse I feel. Then after the first day of the new week I'm feeling better again.
Hula - I was actually getting sick daily for a couple of weeks. Not fun stuff at all. I get queasy in the car too sometimes. Especially if the road seems extra bumpy.
I'm so excited! My 1st appt. is FINALLY tomorrow. It seems like I had to wait forever. I've been trying to drink a lot of water the last few days since my viens are small. I've never had an easy blood draw, so I'm hoping to get someone really experienced. As far as screenings go, we're going to have an amniocentisis done around 16 weeks. I'm kind of scared though because my manager just had hers and said that they took 4 suringes full of amniotic fluid and that it hurt. The good part though was that they were able to tell the sex of the baby. Anyways, I'm feeling a lot better and starting to show, which is exciting.

Welcome to the new members!!
I just wanted to pop in and say sorry I have been so absent! We moved a week ago, which was obviously time-consuming.
And, ironically, I haven't posted much because I have felt so ... pregnant! Right around 5w I got really tired -- so much that my DH had to take charge of the last-day packing (thankfully, I had planned ahead and packed most of my books by then.) Then just before 6w, I got m/s -- not vomiting, but feeling pukey a lot (mostly when I'm hungry, but it also bleeds into the first part of meals -- so I'm trying to eat and my body is telling me to stop. Very strange. But then an hour or so after eating I feel better.) These last few days I have felt sooo tired, like I have the flu, and if I don't eat every hour I feel pukey.
It's really bizarre!!
So I will try to get in here more from now on, but it's been hard when I'm running to the kitchen every hour!

Kerrykate – Let us know how it goes- I’ll be thinking of you two!
QOTD I’m just nauseous all the time- I haven’t actually gotten sick. I’m actually glad about the nausea because with my 4 MCs I didn’t have MS at all – So maybe this is a good sign for me. :) I dunno- I’m looking for anything at this point to keep myself positive! Hee!

OMG – That is exactly how I feel! Trying to figure out what to make for dinner is the worst because nothing ever sounds good. I’m never hungry for food, but if I don’t force myself to eat I get sick. It is a very weird sensation.

You asked the question I was wondering as well. Remember at 20 weeks you can most likely see the sex of the baby on an u/s. My doctor won't even do or recommend amnio unless there is something in our genes to cause her to want to check.

Hi all,
I'm reading along, just haven't had much to post lately.
I'm feeling pretty normal these days. Just a little car-sick feeling at times, and a little tired, but nothing remarkable.
We've had a lot of bad stuff happen in our circle of family/friends this week, so it's been a really stressful time. A close family friend was killed in a car accident two nights ago and my cousin lost her baby at 16 weeks gestation. So, I'm just trying to deal with all of that. The funeral for our friend is on Thursday, so I'll be going home.
Otherwise, I'm just happy to make the 8-week mark. I lost my last pregnancy right about now, so I just want to move past this.

Morning ladies - thanks for the welcomes despite my lurker/not-quite-October status!
Hula - although I think I'll jump back and forth between the two threads, I'm pretty likely to deliver early. Last time (I already have a little boy who will be two next month) my son was measuring quite large so I had to be induced at 38 weeks. When I went to see my OB she said "you know, second children are generally larger than first" so I'm guessing they won't let me go past my due date.
Ironically, had we been able to pick the "perfect" birth month (for taking leave from work, spacing out family celebrations etc) we would have chosen October. I got pregnant immediately after stopping bcp - we weren't even timing things particularly well so it was kind of surprising. That said, I'd RATHER go long and deliver in October, but I'm just not seeing it happening.

Oh Jenzen - that is terrible. Take care of yourself and try to get some rest considering all the things going on. I hope you make it through the next few weeks just fine.
Jenzen, I'm so sorry to hear your news, how awful. Your family will be in my thoughts.
Has anyone purchased any pregnancy books yet? I think I'm going to order Your pregnancy week by week and Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I have the Mayo Clinic book too. Any second-timers have any other book recommendations?

Hi everyone!
I'm feeling a little better today. I had DH bring me some toast before I even got out of bed, and that seems to have made a huge difference.
Tests: We'll probably do the AFP, which is a screening test that just requires a blood draw, and the nuchal translucency, which is basically a very close-up ultrasound that screens for Downs' Syndrome and maybe other things. I think they do that one really early--like 11-12 weeks. I didn't do it last time because DH was out of the country (for 6 months :eek: ) and I couldn't bear to have such a stressful procedure done on my own. The AFP makes me nervous only because there are so many false positives, but we'll probably do it anyway. If you get a positive on an AFP, then they usually recommend an amnio. If possible, I really want to avoid the more invasive tests (amnio or CVS) since they carry a small risk of miscarriage.
Sickness: No vomiting yet but I came soooo close yesterday. Literally ran to the bathroom, then felt better. :rolleyes: I'm sure it's coming since I'm not even 7 weeks yet, and I felt the worst around 10 weeks last time.
Books: I still have tons from last time -- What to Expect, Girlfriends' Guide, Your Pregnancy Week by Week (my fave), The Anxious Parent's Guide to Pregnancy... I think that's it. Are you guys keeping a PG journal? I did last time but I'm not sure if I will this time...
I have my first appointment next Monday, 3/13! I can't wait but I am so nervous!
Pamela

Getting sick on a regular basis or just nauseated? I haven't thrown up yet, and my nausea just disappeared a week ago. I'm hoping I'm done with it.
What screening tests are you going to do if any? I'm pretty sure we're doing the AFP, but thats probably it unless my doctor recommends anything else.
Pregnancy books, I've got "What to Expect When You're Expecting." Not planning on buying any more.
jeant, how was moving while pregnant? We're planning to close on our house on friday (assuming all goes to plan and its finished) and then move ourselves in over the weekend. We've got lots of people helping, and all I'm going to do is watch and tell people where to put stuff, but even that sounds tiring!
Jenzen, I'm sorry to hear about all of the bad news for your family..
New QOTD: Has anyone noticed that their nails are growing really fast lately? My nails are growing really fast right now! I cut them, and in like a week they're way too long and need to be cut again!

Hi girls,
Just waiting for my appt. next week...I haven't actually gotten sick either, just feel sick to my stomach all the time, eating seems to help a little. My whole family had a cold last week and weekend and I seem to have a low fever still never higher than 99.5 though.
Quick question...do any of you know what is a normal temp for a pregnant woman? I'm wondering if 99s could be normal. My head feels hot all the time, especially the past 5 days or so.
We didn't do AFP last time b/c of the high number of false positives and the Dr. said if we got a positive we would have to do an amnio, which we didn't want to.
books I have "what to expect..." and "pregnancy week by week" (my favorite :))
Jenzen you are in my thoughts
octoberkate glad to see you here, we were in the Apr. 04 mommies together, I was nsshirley, I think we live pretty close by as well :)
QOTD I'm not sure if they are growing faster, but they seem stronger and the tips are whiter, someone asked me a couple days ago if it was natural!

Tests - the nuchal translucency (scheduled for 3/22) and the AFP. I'm doing the nuchal trans. mostly for the extra u/s since I'll be 12+ weeks, we'll be able to see a lot. I will not do an amnio regardless of the above test results.
Pamela - not so much my nails, but my hair is definitely fuller. Plus none of it really falls out either. I do remember after DD was born, my hair came out by the handfull.
kerrykate - big hugs about the spotting! Come back with good news!
jenzen - sorry about the rough time you're going through now!
I finally had my first pregnancy dream last night and dreamed I was having a girl. When I was PG with DD, I ***knew*** from day 1 she would be a girl. This time around I'm wavering.
That's about it here! Hope everyone's doing well!

books QOTD - I've got a large collection from my previous pregnancies. I have What to Expect (I HATE this book though), Pregnancy week by week (love it), Girlfriends Guide to Preg (cute), A Child is Born (amazing pictures) and the Mayo Clinic Pregnancy Book (Lots of info, not very user friendly).
Jenzen - I'm so sorry for your losses. Take it easy. (((hugs)))

I keep getting so behind in here--I'm away for the weekend and miss pages and pages of stuff!
Pamela, Michelle, & Kerrykate-- I'm so sorry you've had spotting scares!! I hope everything turns out to be just fine and that you can take it easy for a few days without worrying too much. (This coming from the world's biggest worry wort, so I know how hard that can be.)
Getting sick on a regular basis or just nauseated? I was throwing up pretty regularly, but it definitely seems to be decreasing. I haven't thrown up since last Wednesday, which is a new record. I have been nauseated, but it isn't as bad/frequent as it was two weeks ago.
What screening tests are you going to do if any? Not sure. We got a ton of info yesterday and I haven't had time to process all of it yet.
Pregnancy books--I've got Your Pregnancy Week by Week and love that. I also have The Girlfriend's Guide and Belly Laughs. Those two are fun reads, but I don't know that I feel like I need to own them, prolly should have just picked them up at the library. I also got a long list of recommended books yesterday, so I may pick up one or two more.
Has anyone noticed that their nails are growing really fast lately? Yep, mine are. My hair is growing faster too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I had my first "real" ob appointment yesterday. We were there for about two hours. First we met with the nurse and she went through our genetic history on both sides. Then we talked with the doctor for a while, about their standard procedures, genetic testing, and all of our questions. I had a pelvic exam and a pap. (I have never seen my husband so intent on reading as he was during that exam!) They took about six vials of blood, weighed me (no change yet), gave me a ton of different prenatal vitamin samples to try, and a huge folder of info on genetic testing, hospital preadmission, foods to avoid, etc. We also had to check in with the business office about the procedure for our insurance. The highlight of the appointment, though, was getting to hear the heartbeat. I wasn't sure we'd be able to (thought it might be too early) and it took her a minute to find it, but it was there! Very low and to the right side. We just caught it for a minute before he moved away, but it was awesome. My next appointment is April 10.
Thanks for all your thoughts ...
Prenatal vitamins - Someone's post just triggered a thought ... You don't have to use the prescription vitamins. The over-the-counter prenatals are just as good, and, depending on your insurance plan, they are a lot cheaper. You can get one bottle at WalMart or Target for about $8 that will last your whole pregnancy. I took my bottle in for the dr. to look at last time around, and he said the over-the-counter vitamins are fine.
From how I understand it you have the u/s but they also get a blood sample, at least that is what my doctor said. She was talking about it and how she would like me to get it done, but hubby and I are unsure about doing that. We didn't hear about it before and really have no reason to need it done. We won't be changing our minds if something came up postive and there are just too many false positives for me to comfortable get it done.
I don't want to jinx it or anything, but so far I haven't had any spotting yet today! And, I only had a tiny bit yesterday. DH will be happy, he checks with me every day. I think he might be getting tired of my pelvic rest. ;)
pamela Hope you're still doing alright. That u/s is great, it's just amazing how much they grow in a few short weeks!
MichelleRenee You're pregnant now, and that's what counts. So, enjoy it 100%!
nic By regular, do you mean external? With an empty bladder, I'm not at all surprised you didn't see anything at 7 weeks. You really need an internal u/s to see anything so early.
Michelle Early u/s really depend on the dr. My office does them at the end of the first tri usually, I just got mine early because of the spotting I've been having. So, look at the bright side, no u/s but at least you're not spotting. ;)
kerrykate So sorry to hear about your spotting! I hope it turns out to be nothing, like with your DD. I'm thinking sticky thoughts for you.
Jenzen I'm sorry to hear your family is dealing with all these losses. Hope you're holding up.
Maxicat Welcome and congrats! Looks like we're due date buddies. :)
Pregnancy books I got The Mother of All Pregnancy Books last time and really liked it. The Girlfriend's Guide is more silly, I just checked it out from the library for a bit. Does the Your Pregnancy Week by Week have lots of pictures? I've been interested in something like that.
QOTD Nails Not sure if it's that they are growing faster, or just not getting broken off as often. I haven't been doing as much handwork (clay, sewing, etc) because I'm always so tired.
Bunnybeth, yes, I meant, external ultrasound:o When I was typing that post I could not for the life of me think of the right term to use.
I just talked to my doctor's office and they said my HCG level was 7,000. She said that was within the normal range although on the lower end of the scale.
I just wanted to chime in regarding prenatal vitamins. I had been taking a prescription prenatal, but I think it was contributing to my m/s. My OB told me that I could take Flinstone vitamins with Iron instead and they have been a lifesaver! They're yummy, easy to take, and very inexpensive. They have 300 mg of Folic Acid.
I can't believe I'm 10 weeks tomorrow. Time is flying and that's a good thing. ;) I am ready for the 2nd trimester!
nutter: I wouldn't be surprised if PG women have slightly higher temps b/c of all the progesterone. (I think that's what it is.) Were any of you charting? 18 days of elevated basal body temps is a sure sign of pregnancy, so it makes sense that your body temp would be slightly higher than normal when pregnant.
nic: The AFP and nuchal translucency are definitely not the same test. They do the AFP by drawing the mother's blood and checking it for various things, and the nuchal translucency is an ultrasound. I know NT is done early (11-12 weeks), and the AFP is done a little later (can't remember exactly when).
Thanks, TaterBaby for the tip about Flintstones. I've been skipping my prenatals (bad, I know) and just taking folic acid because the prenatals make me so sick. I'll have to get some Flintstones!
Ericka_Jarett
03-07-2006, 02:32 PM
I just use OTC prenatals from Walmart, the script ones are so pricey and to have to remember to get them refilled, I have enough with remembering to take the Prometrium (thankful I am almost done with them)
Thanks ladies for allowing me to continue to stalk all of you:)
lawgirl14 -- thanks for stopping by the "TTC w/Charting" thread again and your input on my chart. I am really hoping for a late birthday present consisting of a BFP this week. I am really trying to hold out until Friday (13 DPO) but if my temp goes up again tomorrow (or even just stays around the same;)) I will probably be POAS tomorrow morning :rolleyes::rolleyes:
jeant - Hope that you feel better soon.
Hula & Ericka_Jarett - Thanks for looking out for me. :) I just found out today that I don't really need an amnio. I didn't realize that it wasn't standard. My nurse midwife suggested a blood test instead which works for me.
Jenzen01 - I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. Hang in there.
Maxicat - Welcome and congratulations.
My 1st appt. was today and went really well. I really like my nurse midwife and the other staff. I had an ultrasound and saw the baby's heartbeat as well as it jumping all around. It was so cool. I'm going back tomorrow morning for the bloodwork and information session. I also get to go back on 3/27 for an early ultrasound to verify my due date. I'll be just around 13 weeks then so it'll be nice to see what a difference 3 weeks makes. I'll post the u/s pic tomorrow, but it wasn't a very clear picture since it was taken externally.
Where is everyone today?
The NP called me this morning and suggested we schedule an internal ultrasound so we can see just how far along I really am. My cycle have been whacky for a couple of years now ( usually lasts 2-3 weeks) so combine
that with a low HCG level, she wants to deermine my exact due date. She said she says a feeling I'm not quite as far along as I thought.
My appt. is 3/14
Ericka_Jarett
03-08-2006, 08:01 AM
Glad to hear it Lily.
Nic - how far do they think you are?
Me - hubby and I went to the mall and Target to walk around. Hubby asked me to agree not to buy any baby clothes until we find out the sex of the baby in about 11 weeks. I agreed, we have a lot of sleeper outfits we got in Nashville in February and some ducky outfits, so we have enough neutral. I go to the doctor next week for the heartbeat check and just a regular visit. I am excited about that. Jarett did let me order a figurine that is a nice reminder of our wedding since we married at Disney. It's a brand new Precious Moments Disney figurine that comes out in October so it's an early delivery gift from hubby since it comes in around the time of the baby's due date.
Erica, according to the first day of my last cycle (1/16) I'm 7 w 2 d but becuase my cycle lasts sooooo long my NP thinks it's best to do an ultrasound to figure out if that's accurate.
Hi Ladies! I am a bit behind here... I have been sleeping a lot and got to be on strike yesterday, so very busy! Just a few things that jumped out at me...
Jenzen, thinking of you and your family.
My nails are growing like crazy! They're still pretty soft, though, so they keep snagging and tearing. I should take better care of them, but that's the story of my life.
And $8 for a whole pregnancy's worth of vitamins?!! I paid £12 for 90. That's like US$60 for a whole pregnancy's worth. Sheesh. Better stock up for the nursing period when I am back in the U.S.
Lily (and the rest of us!) - it's important to remember that no test or procedure is required. You can always always refuse something that makes you uncomfortable.
Books... I have The Mother of All Pregnancy Books and What to Expect... I also have way more than my fair share of birth books: Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth, Spiritual Midwifery, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, Birthing From Within, Childbirth Without Fear... There are more. Plus a couple of baby-oriented books. Already. I am hoping to become a midwife in the next few years, so I've been stocking up for a while.
G'morning ladies,
I got a phone call this morning from my doctor....and aparantly I have a cyst on my ovary, that showed up on the u/s. She said it's called a "corpeous luteum, cyst" or a "cyst of ovulation". She said it's quite normal in pregnant women, and they usually shrink away, and that most people don't even know they have them because you wouldnt nromally get an u/s until 18wks unless you have complications or for sorting out dates. She said it's nothing to worry about and nothing to loose sleep over. Thank goodness, although my DH still sounded very worried when I called him.
My next u/s is approx March 29th
hi all!
things are pretty much uneventful here... I do feel like my pants are getting tighter, and I'm still having fairly consistent nausea in the evenings/overnight. Looking forward to my first OB appointment this friday morning! We'll also be having another ultrasound.
Hi all -
Maplekitty - I have it too this time. I had it with my first pregnancy too. For me - last time - they just looked for it at my next ultrasound at 18w and it was gone.
Things here - I am so sick every night - it is really frustrating. The last two nights the only thing I felt like eating was pancakes and eggs - weird huh? I figure it is better than not eating though right? Also - last night I had a drop of red blood when I went to the bathroom. I freaked out - never had that before. I called the OB on call - she said that since I had a normal ultrasound two weeks ago it was probably nothing to worry about. She said to watch it and rest for the next day or so - I have my first visit with my NP at the OB tomorrow so I will see what she says then. It only happened two times and now is fine so I am hoping all is fine.
My back is still terrible - I am seeing two physical therapists - one to adjust my spine and one for exercises. I am praying it works. This will be a very long pregnancy if it doesn't. I am getting frustrated.
DS is getting his two year molars and was up at 5am this morning! UGH!! Strangely -he took a nap at 9am for 2.5 hours - so I slept too! He will probably be a bear this afternoon but my mom is coming over to play with him. More rest for me...
10 weeks! I'm a quarter of the way done!
Last night we went to the grocery store because I was out of orange juice (I've been drinking it like crazy!). We bought orange juice, some naval oranges, some cans of mandarin oranges and some orange popsicles. Can you tell I really like oranges lately?? :p
nic If you have long cycles, you really can't go by date of LMP. So, the u/s is a great idea for you.
Vitamins I'd been taking generic prenatals, but got a bunch of Natelle samples at my appt, so I'm just going through those now. They also gave me lots of samples of Enfamil Expecta Lipil DHA softgels. I haven't decided if I'm going to continue taking them, though I do get a discount on them so I might.
A quick question on those who have posted u/s pictures. Did you have to ask your dr for copies of the pictures, or did they just hand them to you? They didn't offer me mine, and I forgot to ask at the time. I feel like I'm the only one without u/s "proof."
they just gave me a computer print out. I think for the big 18-20wk u/s they give you the actual film proof.
Michelle: I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and hoping everything turns out okay!
[b]Pamela, that is so funny about the oranges because the very thought of them right now makes me absolutely sick! I can't get enough salty things, though; anything sweet makes me gag. In my last pregnancy, I craved greens (spinach, chard, collard greens, etc.) and could barely look at a cookie till near the end of the third trimester. I still somehow managed to gain 50 lbs., even without my usual sweet tooth!
Michelle~ I hope the bleeding stops and everything's ok.
I got my beta back today and the nurse said they were pretty good. She said they were 11,200 I looked the numbers up online and for being 6 weeks 5days that seems average. I have an ultrasound tomorrow so we are really looking forward to that.
Weight~ When I was pg with DD I gained 45 lbs and it was tought getting that last 20 off. Right now I'm about 12 lbs lower than my pre-pg weight with DD and I'm really going to try and keep the weight gain under 35 lbs this time. It'll be tough I've been so hungry lately! All I want to eat is sugary cereal, corn pops, lucky charms, fruity pebbles...
Prenatals~ I've been using prescription and it cost $7 a month. I may check and see if Sam's Club has a big bottle, it would be cheaper in the long run.
michellerenee - thinking of you!
kerrykate - glad your betas came back good! Hope the u/s gives you more positive info!
prenatal vitamins - I just take the Target brand.
bunnybeth - I usually asked to make sure I got some u/s pics. At my OB's office you can pay to get a disk of the 20 week u/s and have all the pics, but they gave me a few for free last time.
MichelleReneeThinking of you today! Virtual hug going out to you.
Big welcome to Maxicat! I am so happy to have another over-35 in the thread I can't even tell you! :) (I am 34 now but will turn 35 two months before my due date). I would love to hear your TTC story if you don't mind telling it.
Just have to share this tiny thing -- I ate lunch (I had to correct that because I just typed "I hate lunch"!! You'll see why in a sec) and was so full after the last bite I felt really pukey (it got to the heat-feeling stage, probably the closest I've gotten to actually barfing so far.) Now, *two* hours later, my stomach is grumbling because it apparently is hungry again! :eek: What the hell? I am buying stock in Wheat Thins.
Had my first appt yesterday. Bad news is they usually don't do CVS -- they do amnio instead, which isn't until 16 weeks! :eek: So, so late. They are supposed to have a genetic counselor call me to set up an appt -- maybe I can ask then about the translucency combined with the AFP as an alternative to CVS. Then I'd at least have some idea first trimester what's going on. Since everything is probably fine, it's partly impatience. But if anything was wrong, I would want to know as soon as possible. I can't imagine finding out at 4 months.
Not much else happened. The nurse said not to worry about the lunchmeat thing (she didn't even know what I was talking about when I asked). And they took 7 vials of blood!
We are also considering telling our parents! Because the CVS might not happen, there's no point in waiting now. Besides, if anything bad happened now I'd have to tell them anyway.
Michelle I'm sorry you are going through a difficult time.
Prenatels: My Dr. was pretty insistent on going on the prescription becuase it has a few ingredients with much higher values than the OTC. She also has me on the Lipil DHA supplement.
U/S Pics This came right out of the machine. She printed 1 copy ofr my file and two different shots for me to take home. For the big one we are allowed to bring a video tape and they will record the whole thing for us.
Not too much going on here. We are telling DH's parents on Friday. We do a weekly dinner so they won't suspect anything. I still feel pretty good. I have some slight discomfort when I get up after sitting for awhile, but I think its just my insides making some room!
Pamela About moving -- it was fine. The packing is the hard part. The actual moving day was fine -- it wasn't too bad to tell them where to put things, and I spent a good deal of the time sitting. The biggest problem now is that I don't have the energy to unpack the boxes. My DH did a lot of the important ones (like the kitchen), but my office & books are still mostly just sitting there, 10 days later.
Though I have to say that these days, eating is harder than moving. :)
I am procrastinating on a work task ... can you tell?
When I am done buying stock in Wheat Thins, I am going to buy stock in Luna bars. I don't know if any of you have tried these, but they are great and I highly recommend them. The best flavor is Nutz Over Chocolate. Good vitamins too!
Welcome maxicat!
My thoughts are with you Michelle!
Nothing exciting here. My pants are most definitely tighter, and I've gained back 3 of the 6 lbs I initially lost due to m/s.
As to vitamins--I am taking Flinstones and folic acid pills. My m/s improved by like, 80% when I quit taking the prenatals, and my doctor said that was fine.
However, that exhaustedness is certainly kicking in right now!! UGH!
Pamela--Somehow I missed your original post about moving, but let us know how it goes--my Dh and I will probably be moving at some point during the pregnancy as well. But I am sure my parents will be more than thrilled to help, once they know why we need the extra help! :)
Oh gosh, Michelle- how scary. :( I’ll be thinking of you – Please update us when you can.
Oranges? Blech! I think they are too acidic right now for me - But I've been eating other fruit like mad- I'm crazy for strawberries, watermelon and grapes. Mmmmm!
I got to see "the kid" again today (I had a spotting scare last night and my OB got me in right away this morning). Despite the scare all is well- kid is growing as s/he should be and the spotting seems to have stopped. *phew* :D
Though I have to say that these days, eating is harder than moving. :)
Isn't amazing how much effort it takes just to eat?!?! It just takes me forever sometimes, and I'm so exhausted by the time I'm done!
Hopefully we'll be moving in this weekend, they're cutting it really close with being finished on time. We should know by tomorrow afternoon if they are going to be done or not. My hubby has done some packing, and my mom was over yesterday packing stuff up for me. I've just been laying on the couch all day. I imagine the move will go very smoothly for me, as I won't actually be moving anything and will just be the 'supervisor' and will just boss everyone else around.
I have totally been enjoying all of my orange-y goodness today, but now I want chinese food so DH is going to pick some up on his way home (I would give my right arm right now for some sweet and sour chicken!).
Michelle, sorry to hear about your bleeding, I know how scary it is! Hope everything is ok!
u/s pictures, I didn't ask for a copy, they just gave me one.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the prayers.
Luckily everything is still OK with Reesie. The bleeding didn't last and everythign still looks OK. We even got to see Reesie and the heartbeat. (so cool! It is up to 129.)
I feel a little embarassed that I went to the ER again, but I was just doing what the doctor said to do. The blood was very red and it was so scary. Luckily after the first initial "gush" there wasn't much more.
Thanks again for the prayers. Hopefully this will be my last scare!
I feel like I'm the only one without u/s "proof."
I haven't even had my initial appointment yet, much less an ultrasound. Sometimes I worry that there's not actually a baby in there, but then I wake up queasy in the mornings and it takes me three hours to consume a semi-reasonable amount of breakfast calories, and I am reminded that this is not normal!
Michelle and KerryKate and Nigellas, very very glad to hear that everything is okay with your babies!
We have to move, too, at some point over the summer. I am absolutely not looking forward to it. The only part I am looking forward to is being the pregnant lady who's not expected to carry anything!
Are any of you ladies still getting cramping off and on? I'm in my 7th week and over the past couple of days, I have had those AF-is-almost-here style cramps sometimes...
Just lurking for now...
I'm a repeat offender (this is baby #2) and I don't know my EDD although according to the first day of my LMP it would be October 15th. However, I took a pregnancy test on Feb 17th and it wasn't positive so I'm not sure what's going on. The one I took 2 nights ago was most definitely positive. I'm going to test again today.
1st appointment is 3/22/06 with the nurse practitioner.
So here's my tentative information:
Username: Lydia
Me: Lydia, 28
DH: Matt, 28
TTC: since the six week mark after Baby #1
BFP: 3/7/06
Good morning.
Welcome Maxicat and Lydia!!
Michelle Renee - so glad everything is ok. I wouldn't feel embarrassed for going to the ER, better safe than sorry.
Jeant - I love Luna bars too! I bet they score high in vitamins and stuff since they are made for women. I've been eating a lot of cereal lately and am surprised at the number of vitamins in them. Guess I never paid attention.
MapleKitty - Ugh, I'm so with you on the smells. When I was about 5-6 weeks I hosted a baby shower for a friend. The theme was Safari and I cooked African food. It was a big success. However, if I smell cinnamon or cumin now I will vomit. I can't even think about that food. Sometimes I walk passed my spice cabinet and almost lose it. The other day I opened my pantry and saw the container of couscous that I used in one of the dishes. Just dry couscous, that's all. I had to close the door and run for the bathroom. So weird.
To all of you who said they were craving oranges, etc....I have heard this a lot. Was excited too since you can buy OJ with calcium in it. However, anything orange is now giving me terrible heartburn! Even the orange soda drink for my glucose test. Fire in the hole!!!
So on Tuesday I went to my Maternal Fetal Medicine appt. It went well and I got a surpirse Ultrasound! I didn't scan it because it's kinda blurry. But, when we saw it on the screen we could see arms and legs swimming around. At one point Gilbert (baby's current name since right now he is about the size of a Grape :D ) jumped up and laid back down. So cool! Basically all I'm going to get is the Nuchal test, it's an ultrasound they do around 11-12 weeks and a finger prick of blood - but not an actual blood draw. I know there was some discussion on this. As for the other issues we have in our family (heart problems in babies and Autism), we aren't doing much at all. Our risks for heart issues are low since they said the relatives were not close enough to us. But since insurance will pay for the fetal echo we'll do it anyway. Should be cool and it's non-invasive. For the Autism, nothing can be done. Our risk is higher than everyone else but no tests will tell us anything. I'm not sure why they didn't just make this appt. for me at the 11-12 week mark. I went on 10w4d and since it was too early for the Nuchal I have to go back on March 20 - just 13 days later. There was no rush for this first appt. Oh well, I guess I should get used to this running around. I go to the OB for my second appt. on March 15.
Do any of you eat that new yogurt Activia? I've seen commercials for it. Something about keeping you regular. :rolleyes: I wonder what's in it and if it's ok during pg. Might be a good solution to some of our problems!
On the plus side, it's Shamrock Shake time. If any of you are super fans like me you'll understand the importance of the month of March. And with 45g of calcium in a 16 oz shake....sign me up!!!
Quick question...the carpets are being cleaned at my job during work hours on Monday, do you think it is safe for me to be around it? I have no idea if there are fumes, etc. We don't have our carpets professionally cleaned at home.
QOTD: Is anyone else's skin going completely wonky? I had clear skin all through high school and even my first pregnancy, but this time I am one big ZIT! I know that there are threads about this, but just curious if anyone in here had any good tricks.
Also...does anyone else sometimes feel like their bellies are larger sometimes than others? I feel like by the end of the day, I am larger than in the morning (so in the morning, I am a little freaked out by it).
So glad that Reesey is ok Michelle! Sounds really scary!
Testing: I don't think that we will be doing the nucheal translucency, even though I would really like to have the extra ultrasound! I think that it would make me a nervous wreck!
OK...one more question: Is anyone going to appointments solo? DH cannot be at my next appointment (which really I am ok about), but I didn't know if this was wierd. He was at all of my appointments with DD, but he was working in the hospital where my doctor was. He HAS to be at the big ultrasound, but as far as the rest of them, if he can be there, that's great, but if he can't, I understand. Is it totally selfish of me to make appointments without consulting his schedule first? I made this appointment (which is March 31st) because it was the earliest they could get me in. I didn't even think of DH's schedule when I was making it. He made me feel a little bad (not intentionally) about that last night. I was just wondering how everyone else is doing it.
emermel - I have gone to all my appts alone. Hubby will go to the big u/s for the sex of the baby and any other u/s that I can get at night. I am suppose to have so many u/s's & appts this time around that I know he can't go to every one of them. As the baby gets bigger there will be something to see, as opposed to right now, the baby is so small.
Hi all -
Just got back from my 1st appt - nothing too exciting. Didn't hear the heartbeat on the doppler but NP wasn't concerned....she offered to do another ultrasound since I had more spotting this week but she wasn't insistent that I do it. I decided to wait and if I had any more I would go for another u/s. I don't want to be irresponsible but I really think everything is fine and it was such a tiny bit of blood...I don't know. She was totally fine with it and said she would discuss with the doc.
My next appt is April 4th
Appt - I actually went today alone. Our doc is about an hour away and as we were packing up DS - DH asked if I just wanted to go. I kind of did - so I went alone. I am really ok with it. I knew this would be kind of uneventful and dragging DS two hours in the car and then sitting in the waiting room just isn't fun. DH went to every appt with DS and some are so short it isn't really worth it. We decided this time he will go to the ultrasounds and a few in the middle and toward the end. I don't generally consult his schedule though - I just book them.
Welcome Lydia!!!
Felt soooooo ill last night when I went to bed, and woke up feeling nervous that I was going to throw up (I didn't, thank goodness). Felt really icky this morning too, until about 9:30am. Boobs keep expanding - were really uncomfortable last night.
So around 8pm yesterday DH's cousin calls us, and says "how do you guys feel about becoming second cousins on september 14th?" So I say "well, we feel good about it as long as you feel good about becoming second cousins on October 12th!!" Yes, we are due a month apart! I'm so excited about this because they live in Chicago too, and they are such nice people - and it will be so wonderful to have little cousins the same age! Very exciting!
Tomorrow's my big "first OB appointment" - so excited! we're also having another u/s and I hope that everything is going well.
welcome newcomers!
michelle - so glad to hear that things are okay. do they have *any* idea why you've been bleeding?
emermel - I have also been breaking out lightly. mostly in my cleavage area, upper back, and forehead. icky.
appointments - DH has come to every one so far, and will come to tomorrow's as well. I think he will probably come to most of them - he wants to, and I'm happy to have him there.
Ten weeks today! I heart Thursdays. :)
emermel's QOTD- My skin was definitely craptastic at first, but it seems to be clearing up now. Actually, the worst of it was on my chest and back. (Eeew!) Made me glad that it was winter and I could wear turtlenecks.
So far, J has gone to all of my appointments with me. He has a pretty flexible job (works from home unless he is traveling), so it hasn't been too hard to accomodate his schedule. On Monday they said my appointments from now on will only be 10-15 minutes long, so he might just go to the next one to see if it makes sense for him to keep going.
Welcome Lydia!
Quartercentury, at 10 weeks, my cramping has stopped. But IIRC, I did still have some when I was near 7 weeks.
Michelle and KerryKate and Nigellas-- so happy to hear that everything is okay with the babies. What a relief!
I second jeant's love for the Luna bars. I inhaled a couple of Toasted Nuts and Cranberry bars the other day. They were the best. thing. ever.
So we've pretty much told everyone about the baby...except my office. I'm totally dreading it, as a (former) coworker told me that when she told our boss about her pregnancy, it was "the most uncomfortable conversation ever" and that our boss didn't even congratulate her. So I guess that's my QOTD: Have you told work yet? How did it go? If you haven't told them yet, how long do you plan to wait?
TaterBaby
03-09-2006, 08:45 AM
pickle, I am dreading telling work too. I think I may not do it until well into April and only then because I'll have to. We have a large event then and I will need to get out of carrying the heavy boxes.
I have been thru 2 co-workers announcing their pregnancy and my boss likes to use the phrase "piss poor timing", like basically no time that anyone is pregnant is a good time for her. She will make comments the whole pregnancy AND I am due during one of our largest events of the year. She will flip out. Not looking forward to it...
pickle - I remember my monthly appt with DD. You get weighed, blood pressure checked, lay on the table, they measure your uterus, use the doppler for the heartbeat and answer any questions. I think the appts for me were about 10 mins max. Use to take me longer to get to the appt than the appts themselves.
emermel - my back use to break out terribly when pregnant with DD, I have a few break outs now, but not a lot. I have no tricks to clear it all up.
QOTD: I don't work so don't need to worry about telling anyone at work. :) I am glad too, not sure how I would break it to them.
Skin ~ It's awful! I've always had very bad skin, but thankfully it had been clearing up lately. NOT NOW!! It's bad, bad, bad. My whole face is a zit. It's disgusting. :( Unfortunately, I have no "tricks" to clear it up. I wish I knew the secret to my skin problems, though.
Appointments & DH ~ My DH is not going with me to the first appt, because he has a weird work schedule. He says he wants to go to some, though. So, I will have to work around his shift-work schedule to make the BIG U/S appointment, and a few others he might want to go to. Otherwise, I'm solo.
Leaving for 1st appointment in 13 minutes!!! Wahoo! Thanks for the luck, nic!!!
QOTD - telling work - I plan to tell my boss the week of April 3rd - start of the 2nd trimester for me. Given the nature of my job and my due date, I really can't continue working here next year (nor have we been planning on my doing so - it's not worth it financially and we don't want to put an infant in full time daycare). Thus, I want to make sure that they have enough time to hire a new person and reconfigure things. My job is actually on an academic calendar only (September - mid-June, summers off) so I will actually be done with work in mid-June, just in time for me to start getting nice and big! This will also allow us to have the summer to prepare things for the baby - it looks like we will be buying the condo adjacent to ours, so we will have some construction work to do as we are going to break through and combine the units.
I'm a bit nervous to tell my boss, simply because I started this job in September. Also, we techinically work with our students for the entire duration of their time at the university, and now they will have to be reshuffled around to a new adviser - and I feel bad about that. Alas!
***************************
so, 1-1/2 hrs ago I was totally nauseous and thinking that food was evil. Now I am *ravenously* hungry!! It's only 11 and too early for lunch, and I don't really have anything snacky here. Guess I'll head out for a snack!
lawgirl - you can definitely see a difference in your belly!
qc - I had a bit of cramping last week and I was 9+ weeks then. Just things moving around.
Welcome maxicat & lydia!
pickle - I told work pretty early when I was PG with DD. She was due in Sept and my biggest project of the year was due in Sept. My boss was still happy - it just took some shuffling of responsibilities to cover everything. The director of my dept was in a bit of a tizzy b/c I was the 4th person to announce a pregnancy in a dept of 50 people and we were all due within a month of each other. A few temps needed to be hired. This time, I'm a SAHM, so no boss to tell.
emermel - my chest and back is breaking out! YUCK!
rippy - good luck at the appt!
micheller - glad reesie is still going strong!
DH at appts - he went to about 50% of them last time. Mostly towards the end when it was getting more exciting. He'll probably do the same this time too.
Must go nap while DD is napping!
Hey everyone!
Lydia, welcome! I am so glad to see you in here! I can't wait to find out when you are due and all that other fun stuff.
emermel, my belly is definitely bigger at night than in the morning.
lawgirl4, sorry you've been feeling so sick. I am glad you didn't throw up. We are in the same boat on that one.
Question:
When I was in the hospital on Saturday they said I was 5w4d. (according to my O date I was 6w1d that day) Then yesterday they said I was 6w6d, when according to my O date I was 6w5d yesterday.
So, it's nothing major but I just though it was weird. According to them Reesie aged 8 days in only 4 days.
Overall I just feel a little crappier every day. I was expecting to have m/s just hit me one day and to be miserable, but that's not how it worked. I am fine when I wake up. I eat breakfast and take my PNV. Then an hour or so later I start to feel a little queasy and very tired. It's an overall "fluish" feeling to me, like I just want to go to bed.
Throughout the day i go back and forth from being hungry to being naueseous. The one thing that sets me off is thinking about anything I ate the day before. When I feel hungry NOTHING sounds good to me. Unfortunately, my biggest aversion right now is water. Something about it just makes me gag. So I've been drinking a lot of watered down cranberry juice and ginger ale.
So while sitting at work is almost unbearable I have to admit that if this is the worst of my m/s, then I am a happy camper.
Zits: Count me in on those. I hate it. I used to use Proactiv and it worked great, but now the prices went up and even though I can afford it, I just can't force myself to hand over $50 for facewash. If anyone finds a good facewash for a reasonable price, please post it here.
Work: Finally told them and they were so understanding! My boos immediately started talking about how we will adjust everything to accomidate my being pregnant and even told me to go ahead and come in late whenever I need to because of m/s. Such a relief!
My skin feels oilier, but looks about the same.
We still haven't told very many people about the baby (although my mother is more than making up for it, I'm sure). Only close friends here (i.e. those I didn't feel comfortable telling the anti-histamine lie to), and we'll probably start telling friends further afield next week (most of our very close friends are back in the States).
So I definitely haven't told work yet. I think they are going to panic - in the four years I have been here, no full time employee has had a baby. Add to that the maternity leave rules (12 months off, but you have to come back to work for three months or they can reclaim all of your maternity pay) and the fact that we're going to start thinking about moving back to the U.S. in 2007 or 2008... It's all going to be very confusing. The director of my group is out of the country until early April, so I'll tell them in about a month.
I won't have the option to have my partner at appointments until June or so, as he's back in China until then. But he's a full-time student, so lots of things fit into his schedule!
MichelleRenee, I don't know what to say about the dating issue... I know that later (after the first 12 weeks) that ultrasound isn't very reliable for guessing due dates, but it's supposed to be better earlier. If you're sure about when you ovulated, I would stick with that.
lawgirl, I am so jealous of your little belly!!! I will be 8 weeks this weekend and have nothing to show for it so far. Well, unless you count the nausea.
michelle - that's interesting about your dating issue. my doctor said that very early ultrasounds can often be very unreliable in terms of getting an accurate measurement of the embryo since they are *so* tiny at that point - and sometimes they kind of curl up, making it next to impossible to get a good measurement. This was definitely the case with my early ultrasounds (5w3d, 6w, 6w4d). I think once you are beyond the 1-4mm size (beyond 6-1/2 weeks) it becomes easier to take the measurements (which then determine the dating - at least it does at my dr's office. they actually use a software program that does the calculation based on the size).
qc - oh, you'll get a belly too :) it's actually becoming kind of annoying as my pants are starting to get tight! Thankfully I had a few pairs that were too big on me pre-pg - they are much more comfy right now.
skin - my face looks like when i was 15 yrs old!! Now I remember why i went on tricyclene birth control in the first place! It's clearing up a bit...however I have a ton of zits....*behind my ears*!!!!
belly size - a few day ago I was so bloated I seriously looked 6 months pregnant! Even DH commented that I looked big....gee thanks :p
appnts w DH - yes, my DH has come to my appnts with me. The first u/s and also into the room for my first check up. I figure, you sit in there for so long alone, he might as well come in and keep me company. And I need to get used to having other people in the room when I've got my feet up in stirrups and everyone looking at my va-jay-jay. My doctor asked if "we were on a date", LOL. He wants to feel involved and know whats going on, I think its sweet.
Just so you know, there will probably only be 2 other times in your pregnancy that anyone is poking around down there (unless it's for fun :p )...when you have your Strep B screening (I think around 32 weeks) and while giving birth. Most of your appointments will be pretty uneventful...weighing :mad:, measuring and listining to heartbeat. I think that some of my appointments lasted 15 minutes or less with DD. It just depends on how many questions you have (which I would recommend writing down as they pop into your head, because once you get to the doctor's office, they pop right back out!)
Back from the appointment! Mostly non-eventful. A bunch of questions about medical history. Discussed the PNVs ... and I'm going to a generic brand. Gave me a WHOLE BAG of crap to read, plus a book to read. Plus one thousand pamphlets. :rolleyes: Yay, more reading.
Then, I got to see my regular person. She just took a culture, no Pap since i had just been in October, and then felt around. She said that I felt normal for 11 weeks (which I will be tomorrow!) and then we did the heartbeat. I only barely got to hear it in the background, and only for a total of 10 secons. Because I have a tilted uterus, it's hard to hear at this stage. But, by my next appointment, we will hear it loud and clear.
My next appointment is April 6th.
yah...I meant the giving birth part. I'm trying not to think about the baby coming *out* right now, just focusing on keeping it *in*. But honestly, i don't even like thinking about all the people (nurses, technicians etc) that are in and out of the room while you're in labour. And I know, I know...everyone says once its actually happening it's the last thing you think about - but right now it *is* what I'm thinking about :p
maplekitty ~ I totally hear ya!! I've been rather fixated on it lately myself. Especially after DH made me watch a show called From Conception to Delivery on the Lifetime channel the other night. It was just downright nasty ... IMHO. And I really wasn't enjoying seeing heads coming out of places that doesn't really seem humanly possible. :o It was scaring the bejesus out of me, and I don't want a packed room when all of that is going on. I'm more than a little freaked out about it currently.
I just back from my ultrasound and unfortunatly things aren't looking very good for me. There was a sac and the tech said there was something in it but there was no heartbeat and it only measured at 5 weeks and I am 7 weeks today. She also said she saw some bleeding near the sac. She kept asking me if my dates could be off but I know when I ovulated and when my LMP was. It just seems so strange since my betas were good. Anyway they sent me for more bloodwork and I have another ultrasound next Thursday. She said don't give up hope a lot can change in a week and there could be a heartbeat at the next ultrasound. This really sucks!
Kerry: I'm so sorry. I hope it will still turn out well and that you don't have to wait too long to find out.
Unfortunately, my biggest aversion right now is water. Something about it just makes me gag. So I've been drinking a lot of watered down cranberry juice and ginger ale.
Oh, me too! I HATE drinking anything, but especially water. I think it's because I feel like I have all this extra saliva in my mouth, which makes me want to throw up. The best thing I've found to drink is Trader Joe's grapefruit soda, which I dilute with water and then squeeze a whole lemon into, so it's not too sweet. I really can't take anything sweet right now.
My eating is out of control. I was sick as a dog on Monday, and I think it's because I jumped out of bed and moved a couch from the garage to the street (Salvation Army was coming) before I ate anything at all. I basically had to eat constantly for the whole day before I felt better. Now, I eat something every hour--and let me tell you, it's not good food!! I don't care right now. I'd rather be fat than sick.
Here's what I ate yesterday: toast with butter, crackers with cheese, a bowl of cereal, top ramen noodles, an egg roll with broccoli and string beans, half a huge bag of cheddar cheese popcorn, more crackers and cheese, pizza for dinner with a little bit of steamed spinach, pizza for a bedtime snack, plus some crackers. Isn't that disgusting??? :eek: I wish I could eat some fruit but it makes me gag. At least I can eat vegetables. I hope that three months of this won't be too damaging... it shouldn't be if I take my vitamins, right?
Kerry Thinking of you and hoping things get better.
Well, I just barfed in the backyard. I'd been able to hold it to just *feeling* pukey until today. I had a smoothie with lunch -- that might have been my mistake. No more smoothies. Solid food only. And now my DH has to clean it up off the grass. We have bunnies who visit our backyard from the surrounding open areas -- maybe they will eat it. :)
I just hope this doesn't hit me in the future at a bad time -- like when I'm teaching, or doing a book interview. Today I normally would have been on campus when this hit me, but we had an exam and the TA proctored it.
And now it's dinnertime. I feel like I am at war with food -- I need to eat it or I will feel pukey, but I feel pukey when I am eating it. Can't win.
We told our families the good news last night, but it's hard to share their excitement when I feel so bad. Such is the first trimester, I guess.
Kerrykate, When I had my last US the doctor couldn’t see the kid right away because s/he was so close to the lining it was hard to make her out with the low resolution US. Maybe it was just something like that? Fingers and toes crossed for you.
-----
You guys… I’m So.Very.Dizzy. It hit me today at work, and ended up having to go home – It kind of feels like I’ve got someone else’s glasses on- I feel really pukey and it makes it worse with this dizziness.
Ugh. :( Any advice on this? I can’t keep missing work, but I really can’t work feeling all dizzy like this. Hopefully this will pass soon...
kerrykate - I'm so sorry. It sounds like your doctor is still hopeful that things are ok. I'll be thinking about you.
lawgirl4- Nice belly pictures. I'm starting to see a difference, how exciting. :)
jeant - Sorry that you got sick. I hope that you're feeling better.
jenniferlynne - Mmm...I have been craving Ramen noodles.
I hope that everyone is doing well. I'm trying to log on more often, but I was off of work yesterday and just relaxed all day. I'm also feeling tons better and a lot hungrier. I'm trying to eat more fruits and veggies for the fiber content. As well as get back into some kind of work out routine. I've gained 4 pds. in the last 3 months. I guess that's not bad, but I don't want it to get out of control since I am eating more often.
Nigellas - That sounds kind of scary. Maybe you should call your doctor? Hope that you feel better.
Oh, kerrykate. My prayers are with you. Hang in there.
I just wanted to pop in and write that the worst part of m/s is not knowing when it is going to hit. I go from hungry to gaggy to starving at the blink of an eye and I never know which "starving" moment will lead to an "ate too much gaggy" moment.
According to my O date I am 7w tomorrow. Yay!!!
kerrykate--Let us know how your next appt goes--we'll all be thinking of you!
Nigellas--That's so weird you posted about being dizzy today, because I was going through something similar! Not necessarily so bad that I had to go home, but I sat down a lot at work. And I really felt kinda funny on my feet, like I wanted to go to bed, but wasn't tired. . . . just like my body was telling me to lie down--that I couldn't physically stand up anymore. It was quite weird. I woke up feeling "not quite right" and the feeling still hasn't left me yet.
As to cramping--yes, I am still having light cramping. I have a few pains in my lower left side, right above my hip-bone as well. I'm going to mention it at my next doctor's appointment, because you'd think I wouldn't be having too much of that anymore.
So here's a quick question--yesterday I was at a friends house with my dog and their dog. Their dog is allowed on furniture--and she jumped up on the couch while I was sitting there--landing with one foot squarely on my lower abdomen! I feel like there's a bruise there, but can't see anything. Should I be concerned? I haven't had bleeding or anything. The dog is a husky and maybe around 60 lbs.
KerryKate, Big hugs to you. Don't give up hope yet. We'll all be thinking about you.
Nigellas, I read that dizziness is pretty common, especially if you're not eating very much. I have been having bouts of dizziness, too, which actually weren't uncommon for me pre-pregnancy (I have a fast metabolism and can get very low blood sugar on no notice). If you're actually losing consiousness, definitely call your doctor. Otherwise, I would just work on keeping your blood sugar up and getting up from sitting/lying down and moving around slowly.
jenniferlynne, whatever you can keep down is fine. Not disgusting at all. I was really proud of myself because I consumed more than 2,000 calories yesterday (keeping track on www.fitday.com), but it was a 2,000 calories very heavy on the NutriGrain bars. :rolleyes:
Those of you who are worried about too many people in the room when you are giving birth... unless there's a medical emergency, you can ask anyone who's not catching the baby to leave. Ask people to knock before they come in, introduce themselves, and state why they're there. Before hand, have your DH agree to ask strangers who may just be standing around to leave if they're not essential to the process. And really, you, as the birthing woman, are the only person who's absolutely essential to the process.
kerrykate - big hugs! I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!
jenniferlynne - I'd just worry about eating things that sounded good right now. After the m/s subsides, worry about the fruits and veggies.
nigellas - I had terrible dizzy spells with DD, but it was closer to the half-way mark. Luckily I had my own office with a door, so I'd just lay on the floor for a bit. I did call my doc and it was suggested to eat something with protein and not too much sugar. That did help a bit for me.
MidwesternGal - the baby should be fine even if the dog landed on your belly. He/she is so tiny and very well protected. Of course, if you are concerned, definitely call your doc. I'm trying to get my DD to stop standing on my belly, but she only weighs ~20 lbs.
I'm sorry so many of you are still tossing your cookies and just feeling yucky. Hopefully you'll feel better soon with the 2nd tri coming!
Hula - I'm so excited about Shamrock Shakes!!! Thanks for the reminder!!! I LOVE them!
DH is finally back from AZ! I got him at the airport last night. It's so nice to have another adult in the house.
Kerrykate, Big hugs to you, you and baby will be in my prayers.
I finally slept last night after taking a Tylenol PM. I was a little groggy from it when I woke up but I really needed that 6-7 hours of sleep.
Thanks for all support ladies. I got my 2nd beta back and my levels went up from 11,200 to 13,158. But from what I've been reading online it sounds like a blighted ovum where the baby never develops but there is a sac and the placenta keeps producing hcg. I guess we'll know for sure at the ultrasound next week.
Back from my Doctor's appointment!
Our little baby (we are calling it "Binkler" for now) is doing great. Measuring about 2.5 centimeters!!! (up from 9 millimeters 2 weeks ago - wow!). I had an internal exam (painful primarily because I am *filled* with progesterone gel, which kind of morphs into a cottage-cheese like entity - so my Dr had to spend a little time "cleaning me out." - sorry for the TMI!) but she said everything looks/feels great. And I had a pap as well, which I didn't feel at all.
We scheduled our First trimester screening appointment (nuchal translucency test) - ultrasound and blood test for March 31st and we will also be having a genetic testing appointment on March 16th (DH and I are both Jewish and want to have this screening done as well). Basically, they will test me to see if I am a carrier for any of the Jewish genetic diseases; if I am negative, great; if I am positive, they will have to test DH as well.
My next OB appointment is April 5th. I'll be seeing my doctor every 4 weeks for regular OB appointments until about 28 weeks, when I will start going every 2 weeks.
****************************************
In case this applies to anyone, I asked my dr about taking anti-anxiety meds while PG. I hate flying (despite traveling all over the world) and usually take a Xanax when I fly. However, Xanax is a category D drug - known to harm the fetus. She said that she has prescribed Xanax and Ativan (another anti-anxiety drug) to her patients and as long as a low dose is taken - and used only sporadically - it is okay. So she gave me a prescription for Ativan, and I'll see if I really need to take it when I fly to NY next week.
And, perhaps more importantly - it's okay to eat soft cheeses *if* they are made with pasteurized milk! yay.
QOTD - How are your cramps? Are they quite painful? Are they constant? Sharp pain, dull pain?
For the past few days I've been having very umcomfortable cramps...and I don't know what's "normal"? They are very low down, just above the pubic bone, and it kind of feels more on one side than the other. From the books I've read, they say to be concered if you get cramps only on one side, because it could be an ectopic pregnancy? Is there a point in pregnancy when the baby is "too big" to become ectopic? The pains aren't to the point where it's unbearable and I'm in crazy amounts of pain, but it is quite uncomfortable.
There's a cute thread in the Parenting section called "Does your DC look completely different than you expected?" - so I thought it would be fun to have as a QOTD: What do you expect your baby to look like?
Our baby will have blue or green eyes - I have blue, DH has green, and his mom has blue - so he has a Green and blue gene, while I have two blue genes. That much we know! I am guessing that our baby will be blonde to start - both DH and I had blonde hair as babies (DH until he was about 5 years old) - then we both went to light brown. However, DH's mom has red hair, so there's always a possibility that gene could show up. DH and I both have fair skin, but my mom and his dad both have more olive-toned skin, so again, who knows!
QOTD: What do you expect your baby to look like?
Both Curt and I have blue eyes, and both our parents have blue eyes, so if our baby end up with anything other - i'll have some explaining to do! :p
Curt was born with white blonde hair that turned dirty blonde. I was born with orange hair that eventually turned strawberry blonde, so I assume our baby will have blonde hair.
Curt has slightly curly hair now, but had the most beautiful goldilocks curls when he was young! AAAwwwww. And I have bone straight hair. So who knows there....
We are both very fair skinned, and burn easy, and lots of freckles for both of us (me on my shoulders, and Curt on his back).
We're both "shorter", so we're not expecting a basketball player. Curt is skinny and his metabolism is off the charts, and I'm overweight and my metabolism is the shits. So I'm hoping our baby takes after Daddy!!
QOTD- I think the baby will look more like me but I have no idea.
I have dark brown hair/brown eyes and olive skin. DH had brown hair (although it was blond when he was younger), blue eyes and fair skin.
Maplekitty, this sums us up as well. I'm 5' 4 1/2 and DH is 5' 8'.
MidwesternGal, We have two dogs, one is a 75 lbs. lab who is allowed on the furniture. There have been several occasions where he has put a paw to my stomach even though I do everything possible to avoid that. However, I think as long as you're not having major cramping and/or spotting afterwards, that everything is fine.
QOTD: I think our baby will have dark hair and dark eyes with an olive complexion, just like me and DH. We also both have wavy/curly hair so I'm fully expecting that too. I'm 5'10" and DH is 6'4" so I think we're pretty much having an amazon child. In fact, DH's shoulders were too broad to pass thru the birth canal, resulting in an emergency C-section. Nice.
KerryKate Sorry to hear about the less than stellar appointment. At least your hcg is still going up. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your u/s next week.
QOTD: What do you expect your baby to look like?
I'd like blue eyes, but not sure if that will happen. DH has blue eyes, but I'm not sure if my brown eyes are "mixed" or not. (Both of my parents are brown eyed with a single blue eyed parent.) Probably dark hair (towhead if blue eyed) and maybe curly from DH. I'm short and DH is average, so DC probably won't be tall. And, I'm really hoping s/he doesn't inherit daddy's ulcerative colitis, but that isn't too likely so I'm not really worried about it now.
Hi everyone.
Kerry, Still sending good thoughts your way and hoping it all turns out well.
Thanks for the reassurances about my less-than-nutritious diet! I think I'm a little paranoid because when I was pregnant with DS, I got pneumonia around 13 weeks. It was a cold that I just couldn't kick, and after a couple of weeks it turned into pneumonia. I was completely convinced that my horrible eating habits had weakened my immune system so much that I couldn't even fight off a simple cold. In retrospect, I'm sure that wasn't it, but I vowed I would try to eat better the next time in spite of any morning sickness. That's sure a lot easier said than done! I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I think I'm having Ramen noodles for lunch again... ;)
QOTD: What do you expect your baby to look like?
Interesting question. My DH and I are both tall and thin, and we both have very fair skin with dark brown hair, though we were both blond as children. I have hazel eyes and he has blue. Our DS is very fair with blond hair and blue eyes. He's also HUGE for his age, and he always has been. It's interesting because my DH's brother and father both have dark skin and very dark eyes, plus they're both short and stocky. So, this next child could very well have darker skin or eyes. If I had to bet, I'd say fair skin, dark eyes and average build.
QOTD - What do you expect your baby to look like? Both my husband and I are shorter. He's 5'7 and I'm 5'5 so I'm assuming that it will be rather short. I'm thinking it will have brown eyes because there is a lot of brown in our genes, but I'm the lone blue eyed that came from my grandfather. This baby will definitely be fair skinned because we both are.
Kerry - I'm thinking about you! I hope that everything turns out good.
Today I went to get some blood taken for all of the various tests. They took 6 things of it! Has anybody else been tired after getting blood drawn? I came home and passed out after that! I was exhausted.
I hope that everybody has a great weekend! Does anybody have any big plans?
QOTD - This is a constant topic among our friends, mostly because J and I look so different! I'm very fair, freckles, strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, while J is dark-skinned, has black hair, and brown eyes (his heritage is 100% filipino, while I'm pretty WASP-y). I'm relatively short (5'2") and on the thinner side, while he is average height and pretty muscular. Since I'm one big recessive gene, I think the odds are pretty good that our kid will look like him. I'd be happy with that. ;) Although he does have a couple of cousins who are mixed race, and they have dark hair, blue eyes, and fair skin, so who knows?
Kerry, you'll be in my thoughts this weekend.
Nice QOTD!
Our baby will definitely be blond at least at first -- I'm blond and DH's hair is light brown. I hope beyond hope that s/he will have DH's blue eyes (I don't like my brown eyes. But my mom has blue eyes, so we have a 50/50 chance!) The kid will be tall (I'm 5'8" and DH is 6'2"). Overall, I always say I want our kid to be just like my DH: EXCEPT s/he has to do their homework (DH was never much of a student, but boy was I.)
Oh, and to echo TaterBaby about your DH: My DH (and everyone in his family) has an enormous head. You just look at it and think C-section!! :) Hope not.
Feeling somewhat better today -- no more puking (so far). It's weird though -- I went from having to eat all the time or feel pukey, to not feeling like eating at all. We're supposed to go to dinner at a restaurant with MIL tonight -- *that* will be interesting. At least we told her so she won't wonder what the hell is going on.
Oh, and I have to share this :) I am wearing a B cup bra for the first time in my life today. Very weird!
Real quick post here. I am 7w today and I feel better than I have. I bought some Sea Bands so i am anxious to see how they work.
My first dr's appointment went fine. The nurse just asked some questions. The crappy part was that I had to have another blood test. (that's 3 this week) I hate needles! I am right on schedule.... 7w, and due October 27.
Threadmistress: my next dr's appt is April 4.
QOTD: Well, we are both short, thin, and dark/European looking. Mike is Italian and I am Hungarian. We both have pretty big noses and dark hair. His eyes are blue, which stand out beautifully on him. Mine are brown. I am guess our baby will be petite, with dark hair, hopefully blue eyes and a big nose. (but still cute, just like Mike!)
QOTD - DD is a carbon-copy of me except she has blue eyes and I have hazel. Baby #2 will probably have brown hair (like DH and I). I'm expecting #2 to have brown eyes. DH's are brown. We're both pretty average height 5'11" and 5'5" and average builds, so the kids will probably be pretty average. Definitely need to wear glasses as DH and I are both blind as bats.
QOTD - Hubby and I both have blue eyes. I have dark blonde and he has brown hair (you can see a little red after he gets a haircut, but most of the red hows up in his goatee) Rebekah had brown with blonde around the scalp. All babies have blue eyes at birth so we know she had blue eyes, probably would have kept them too. My stepson has piercing blue eyes and brown hair
Hard to know for sure what kids will have. We had someone in church that had 3 red heads (she and hubby were brunettes) well they got the red from their grandfather's gene on the mother's side. My own family: my dad had hazel eyes and brown hair, mom has blue eyes and brown hair, my oldest brother blue eyes and brown hair, next brother has brown hair and green, next brother has blue eyes and blonde hair and I am blonde and blue.
Thanks to all who reassured me about the dog jumping on my abdomen!
Maplekitty--Cute tummy! I wish I carried my weight elsewheres than my stomach! I just look fatter, not pregnant! But you look adorable!
QOTD: What will your baby look like?
Well, I know baby will definitely be a blondie when young. Both DH and I were Jessica Simpson blonde when babies and toddlers. However, now I have dishwater brownish and DH is super dark brown. Both of us have wavy hair, so unfortunately, so will baby! I have dark brown eyes, and DH has greeny-blue eyes. . . . *usually* dark genes dominate, so I'm hoping baby has brown eyes! We both have HORRID teeth (I had braces 2 times and DH would have to break his palate to fix his now!), so I'm anticipating lots of orthodontist bills!! I really hope baby gets DH's family's metabolism--they are mostly thin, small built people. . . . who can eat about anything (unlike me, who gains weight looking at food!)!!! So I'm crossing my fingers on that one!
Hi all,
Sorry I'm so far behind ... too far behind to do SOs.
I'm at my parents. Came up here on Thursday morning for our friend's funeral. Talk about emotional. It lasted over 2 hours and more than 425 squeezed into our church. People just kept standing up and telling stories about our friend. She was such a funny lady that there was even laughter at her funeral. She will be missed in this community.
I also had the chance to have a really good talk with my cousin who lost her baby. I feel like this was a good trip to take, because I can finally be doing something about all the sadness that took place last week. DH and I live two hours away from my family, so I felt stuck and unable to help while people I loved were hurting.
This has definitely been a healing trip.
So, that's what's new here. I continue to have light cramps, and I have to get up to pee more. My stomach is starting to bulge a little bit.
kerrykate - my thoughts are with you.
I'll chat later.
I missed everything from yesterday because there was some major (non-pg related) drama going on yesterday. :(
However, I would like to do yesterday's QOTD:
We both have brown hair and brown eyes. We both wear contacts and/or glasses. And both of us have hair that is thick and wavy. DH has Greek background, and skin tones. I have Italian background and skintones. So ... our child will definitely need glass, have brown thick wavy hair, brown eyes, and darker complexion. Unfortunately, s/he will mostly likely have bad skin, too. Mine is THE WORST, but DH still breaks out on occasion, too. I am 5'8" and DH is 6'3". So, our child will definitely be on the taller side, I think. Unfortunately, everyone on both sides (DHs family and my family) has trouble with their weight, except for my dad. So, I feel bad for my future child when I say that s/he will probably have a battle with their weight. :(
Not much to report here. M/S still pretty variable. I'm getting another cold thanks to DD (we just got over one last week). It's really a pain not to be able to take anything for cough.
QOTD I think it's pretty hard to predict what kids will look like, people are always surprised with blue eyes when no one else had them, or blond hair when everyone else is dark, etc. DD looked a lot like DH for the first few months, and then her looks changed and she looks more like me now. This baby will probably have very little hair, though. DH and I were both pretty bald as babies, and DD was for the longest time. She still doesn't have much--can just keep a bow in, but no pigtails yet.
Wow, this thread is really moving! But unfortunately, we are not. They didn't quite get finished, so we won't be moving until the middle of next week.
QOTD, DH is 6' with brown hair and hazel eyes, he's tall and skinny. I'm 5'4" with red hair, brown eyes, freckles, pale skin, very petite. He does get red hair in his beard, and I'm really hoping for kids with red/reddish hair. I'm guessing we'll have kids with brown or reddish hair with brown eyes. All our kids will probably be skinny, and probably taller than me (we've both got all sorts of tall genes in our families, I just ended up short for some reason).
maplekitty - you look great!
jbemommy - I hear you on catching things from DC. DD and I traded a cold from December into Feb. Just couldn't get rid of it but I think we're finally over it, especially with the nice weather this week I've been able to air out the house. My big concern now is DD sharing germs with #2, since she'll be going to pre-school 2X/week.
I'm counting the days until my next appt! I'm getting very excited to hear the h/b! Otherwise, not much else is going on and I'm really feeling good now.
Yesterday we had an ultrasound and found out that the baby is only measuring 6 weeks and should be 9 weeks at this time. Basically they said that I would miscarry at some point. I am still kind of in shock that I am actually going to miscarry. I still feel pregnant which is so strange to me. I am very nausious and extremely tired that is why it is hard for me to belive that the baby is not alive inside of me. We were in such shock yesterday at our ultrasound when we heard the bad news. I guess since we had one healthy prenancy we just assumed we would have another. Our inital response was that we would just wait and let nature take its course but we are now considering a D&C so that we can move on. Well that is all for now back to crying :(
I just got back from my first appointment, and it was pretty uneventful. The midwife felt me, said I felt about right for how far along I'm supposed to be, and then they took a LOT of blood. I don't get to go back for another six weeks!! Is that about what everyone else is doing? I guess that's not exactly true; if I do the nuchal translucency, I'll go back between 11-12 weeks, which is only 3-4 weeks away. I think we'll definitely do that, though.
Hope everyone is doing okay...
Kate--I am so sorry to hear about your loss!
--------------------------------
It's offical--I *must* buy new pants! My size 14's are just way too tight to be comfortable! However, I don't have a bump or anything, so I think a size up (16) should fit. I'm just going to buy a cheap-o pair from Wal-Mart (maybe Old Navy if I can't find any at Wal-Mart), because I dont want to spend mega $$ on pants that I *hopefully* won't be wearing more than a month or so now, and a month pp.
I spent the weekend horribly sick. Still not totally better. I had stomach cramps and diharrea the WHOLE weekend!! Ugh!
Hopefully everyone else is doing well!
My appointment today went really well. My weight hasn't changed and my blood pressure is good. She couldn't hear the heartbeat with the dopler so lucky me I got an extra u/s :D The baby looks real now, its incredible. The head is huge and we saw little arms & legs. The heard beat is super fast, and she said everything looks perfect. I'm measuring 4 days ahead of schedule. Last time I was 1 day behind so I'm not concerned. If I can find another service to use besides shutterfly I'll post the new u/s pic.
Marathon: Sorry to hear you are still sick. Hopefully it gets better soon.
Dr. Appts frequency: I go every 4 weeks, until I think week 28 or 30, then its every 2 weeks. Then as it get closed to the due date its every week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just heard back from my doctor's office about my 82 vials of blood from last week...I found out my blood type (I never knew it before), and they said I tested negative for everything you want to test negative for (i.e., bladder infections, stds, hiv, anemia, etc.) but that my thyroid numbers were a bit off. She said that it isn't uncommon in early pregnancy, not to worry about it, and that there was nothing I could do/avoid to change the numbers. They are going to recheck it in the 2nd trimester and expect it to be normal as my body adjusts to the hormones. Anyone else heard of this (before I get all google-crazy and freak myself out)?
I thought I had gotten over the m/s hump (it had been over a week since I got sick), but yesterday was bad. Of course I blame J. Who in their right mind would microwave salmon around a pregnant person?!?!:rolleyes: Also thought I would share: I got my Bella Band on Friday and am wearing it today with an unbuttoned pair of pants to work. I love it! I've had it on since 8 a.m. and it's pretty comfy. It just looks like I have a long tee layered underneath my sweater.
jenniferlynne, I think I have about 5.5 weeks between appointments because my doc is on vacation during the time I would normally have my next one. Normally, I go every four weeks (until the end when it is every two, then every week).
MidwesternGal, hope you feel better today!

I am so sorry to hear about the losses!
Feeling pretty good today...I was pretty miserable yesterday morning. I never actually got sick, but boy did I want to. I figured I had two choices, I could stay in bed and feel the room spin, or I could go out and enjoy the weekend with DH and DD...I chose the latter. I was alright except for when we were in the car. I was like that from when we woke up until around 10, when it magically went away...unfortunately it came back around 1130 b/c I was hungry. FEED THE BEAST!!!
QOTD: What are you ladies doing in terms of exercise? I am not an exerciser...I have tried walking on our treadmill a few times, but I usually end up feeling lousy afterwards. I would LOVE to try a prenatal yoga class, 1, they are expensive, 2, I don't know if I can just try it for a week or two to see if I like it, and 3 (and most importantly), I don't know if anyplace like that has babysitting for DD...I think that if I'm going to do it, I will have to during the day. By the evening I am so wiped out, all I want to do is lay in bed.
So DH and I decided that we are going to wait until we go home in April to tell our families. I definitely want to wait until after my 2nd appointment (31st). SIL is due with her second baby on the 24th and we think that it will be better if we let her have some time in the spotlight (that sounds so dumb) before announcing. Apparently there has been a pattern with DH and SIL that whenever something big happens for her, something bigger happens for him. He recognizes this and is trying to be sensitive. I guess I will just have to wear a big t-shirt or something to hide (I assume that I will be showing by then...I think I was with DD). IL's are going to pick us up from the airport, and DD will wear her "I'm the big sister" t-shirt that I bought her. We'll have to see if they notice or not. She'll wear it the next day too when we see my dad. I think that I am going to tell my mom on the 17th for her birthday and I'll do the same for my sister the next day (they live out of town). Hopefully it will all work out. With DD we got lucky and everyone was in town and we had dinner with my parents and sisters and grandma and IL's (parents and sil) and got to tell everyone at once...I guess I was kind of hoping to do the same thing. Oh well...they'll be thrilled no matter how we tell them.

QOTD: What are you ladies doing in terms of exercise?
right now...nothing, which is horrible! :( I'm so exhausted all day that the thought of exercise is mind numbing. However I am starting to feel quite out of shape, walking up the stairs is getting hard which is so pathetic! :( The added weight thats will arrive is not helping matters. Thankfully the weather is getting nicer and I'm looking forward to daily walks...I keep saying I will, but I'm to lazy to even go do that! We just bought a new house witha pool, so I am determined to spend the summer swimming and getting my body moving in the water!
Pamela
03-13-2006, 04:43 PM
QOTD, exercise: I've had my prenatal yoga DVD for a couple of weeks now, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet and don't know if I will any time soon. I'm under doctor's orders to not exercise or do anything strenuous and just take it easy whenever possible. If things continue to go well and I get the ok, I'd like to do the yoga DVD and start taking walks in the evening with my DH (we used to walk for a couple of miles in the evenings).
Not much going on here, just waiting around to move.

03-13-2006, 06:43 PM
exercise I usually swim, but it has been unusually cold here (and the pool is outside), so I haven't been in two weeks. I miss it and I really hope to get in soon. Don't know how much I'll be able to do, though -- I sleep 10 hours a night and I'm still exhausted during the day.
pickle I am on thyroid meds for a condition (thyroid antibodies) that was diagnosed before I got pg. They are going to adjust my meds as I go because thyroid needs can change a lot during pg.
Here's my recommendation: find out what the number actually was (it's called TSH). If it's anything over 3, raise a stink and see if you can get treated. It's true that thyroid levels fluctuate during pg, but if it's out of whack it can be bad (for you and the baby). They are right that it might adjust later, but it might not. Even if it does, thyroid conditions are just about the most treatable out there -- cheap, easy, and 100% safe during pg. (it's the same hormone your body makes). Plus if they don't adjust it now, and try to later, it will take 6 weeks or so for the treatment to make a difference. I don't mean any of this to be scary; I've learned through research that many docs don't treat thyroid problems as aggressively as they should, and they really, really should.

I haven't been doing any exercise lately. I had been swimming three mornings a week before work, which I would really like to get back into, but I can't bear the thought of throwing up on the way to or, god forbid, in the pool. I am promising myself that I will start again when it's been a week since I've thrown up. I am also going to start prenatal yoga once I get past 12 weeks.
pickle, do you mind sharing what size you normally wear and what size Bella Band you have? I read on another thread that they can be way too tight if you order them according to the recommendations on their website.

QOTD exercise - I run about 5-7 miles/week and walk another 2-3 miles/week on my treadmill. Plus I chase my 18 month old DD around and picking her up 1,000 times a day is my weight routine. My running these days is a far cry from my marathon training days, but it will have to do for now. I ran until I was 23-24 weeks when I was PG w/ DD and continued to walk 30 minutes every day until the day she was born. Actually, DH and I did a 2 mile hike 8 hours before she was born. I was in a bit of denial that I was actually in labor. Granted I had to stop every 5 minutes for a contraction, but somehow I finished it. I credit my staying in shape for the super-easy, super-fast labor and delivery I had w/ DD.
Not much else going on from my end. Hope everyone is doing well!

qc - I normally wear a size 6 (with a very small waist) and I ordered the Bella Band in the smallest size, size 1. It is pretty stretchy and I would say that you definitely want it to be tighter rather than looser.
exercise - not much, and I am *really* feeling it. I would like to start doing yoga and at least walk on the treadmill... but I am *so* tired after getting home from work that exercising is the last thing on my mind.

jeant-Thanks for the info. I had a physical last fall, and one of the things that my regular MD checked was my thyroid (because she knew we were ttc). It all came back normal, and I actually have a copy of the lab results. I should go look up what they were so I have a non-pg baseline to compare...
QC - I normally wear a 2 or 4, and I ordered a size 1 in the Bella Band. I definitely don't think the bigger size would have stayed on me (at this point, anyway). It's tight, but not uncomfortably so. I think it needs to be a bit tight to (a) hold up your pants and (b) smush down the unfastened parts of your pants.
Exercise - Ummm, not so much. I do walk quite a bit as a part of my daily life, at least a mile to and from the el each day, plus in my running around town. It's one of the things I like best about living in the city. I definitely want to go back to yoga class soon. I went pretty consistently, but once the m/s hit I stopped. My normal studio doesn't offer prenatal classes, but a friend recommended one a few blocks away that does. I'm hoping to start in the 2nd tri. emermel, lots of yoga studios will comp you the first class so you can try it out and see how you like it. The daycare issue might be trickier, unless you can find a class at a gym. I've never gone to a yoga studio that has childcare.
jenniferlynne
03-14-2006, 08:37 AM
QOTD: I usually go to the gym about three times a week but I haven't been in a week and a half. I just feel too sick right now, and I've noticed the nausea is worse when I exert myself. As soon as I'm feeling better, I'll go back. My gym has childcare--half the reason I go, an uninterrupted shower!!--but they don't have prenatal yoga. I really wish they did because I love yoga.
I've found one thing that seems to really help the nausea. DH brings me two pieces of toast first thing in the morning, and I eat them very slowly and stay in bed another 10 minutes or so. That has helped me sooo much! If anyone else can do that, I'd highly recommend it!

lawgirl Strangely enough, DH made a a tribal-women-nipple comment to me a couple of days ago.
QOTD Exercise Once I can exercise again, I plan to start playing DDR again in workout mode (the dancing video game, so much fun) and taking evening walks with DH. I've never been much of an exerciser, but I'd also like to try out a prenatal exercise class, however, because of my work schedule I'd only be able to do that on Saturdays.

Hello!
Well things are plugging away here. Bought a new pair of pants yesterday--they are sooo big! LOL. But, I figure if I can get away wearing my knit pants to work (stretchy elastic waist, originally bought for my PMS bloat days) and I have one pair of decent jeans, that should get me through until I need to wear shorts or maternity clothes. At leat I can feel good that although my stomach is getting bigger, I haven't gained any numbers on the scale.
The only other problem was that (okay, TMI and gross up ahead, fyi!!) last night, I had my first projectile puking incident! It was horrible!! UGH! And, to top it off, it was only water that did it! Though I guess it could have been a lot worse.
But today, of course, I feel fine (so far. m/s is nighttime for me!). So at least I can eat something today.
Exercise: Before m/s started in, I walked the dog from 2-3 miles every day but maybe 1 day a week. However, that has definitely fallen to the wayside now that I am just feeling awful 9/10 times. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'm back to normal and can resume that routine.

Ugh, I'm very upset! My m/s is actually getting worse--I threw up yesterday and today and I hadn't thrown up at all yet. I thought at 11 weeks I'd be almost over it.
Exercise--none! I know, it's really bad. I have a hard time staying motivated to keep exercising, so I go in spurts, and I'm in a non-exercising phase right now.

I'm sorry for your losses Kate & Happy.
Kerry-I hope the U/s was inconclusive & all is well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been MIA b/c I was in Vegas for work most of last week. Not my favorite place to be while PG-the smoke was DISGUSTING. One of my co-workers flat out asked me if I was PG b/c I told him "water" when he was taking drink orders & I went to bed by 10 each night, so I told the rest my co-workers when I returned home. I told me boss a while ago. I work for a small office, so if something bad does happen, I would want them to know.
I puked changing DS's diaper on Sat. I actually had to hold it in my mouth while finishing cleaning him. That sucked.
I started doing the rubberband thing this week with my pants b/c I tried on some of my maternity jeans on Sunday, but they fell down when I walked. Most of my work pants have side zips, so I probably need to look into a belly band.
Of course I have a presentation in front of 30 customers tomorrow, so it will probably take me 30 minutes to get dressed in the AM. I have a cocktail hour this evening with the same people & thank god I grabbed a cardigan on my way out b/c I look so PG in the bathroom mirror! I also hate whispering to the bartender to put my sprite with lime in a cocktail, not soda, glass. Fun stuff.
Hi,
Been very busy with work lately....
Kate and Happy, I'm so sorry for your losses.
My first appt. is tomorrow. Can't wait, I 'll feel much better afterwards.
M/s still around, helps to eat, but I basically have to eat all day long, every hour.
Exercise-Nope, unless you count chasing an almost 2-year old :)
I'm having some anxiety attacks. I worry about everything I'm around and eat. Our bathroom has this wierd smell now for about 4 months, not stinky, but just wierd almost metallic. So I've been freaking out that it's mold or something and I'm going to cause birth defects in the baby if I enter the bathroom, I'm driving DH nuts, he says he'll be snaking the drain tonight, and cleaning it down to the nitty gritty tonight to make sure that doesn't take care of the smell first. I like it so much better when the baby is here and we have a shared responsibility for its health...right now I feel it's my sole responsibility. Thanks for letting me vent...
It's been a while since I checked in.
I'm so sorry to hear about your losses kate and happy. I know the pain all too well. The m/c thread is a great resource.
I'm doing okay. I've still been very tired. I'm just waiting for the 2nd trimester and hopefully some more energy. I haven't been as sick, though I've gotten away this pregnancy hardly being sick at all anyway. I did have a 3 day stretch where I threw up every night at almost exactly 10pm but it was gone after that. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather - the few days of warm weather we had here I felt so much better.
Pants are definitely NOT fitting. I'll have to take a belly shot. I'm going to have to make a run to get some maternity clothes as I think I'm close to transitioning. I guess that's what happens the 3rd time around :)
Hope that everyone is feeling good!
Hi Everybody!
I've been hanging in there. I have not been sick to my stomach at all lately, but my back started hurting yesterday. I don't get why it would be hurting so early in the pregnancy but I was just sitting at my desk at work and it started hurting (so it's not like I did anything to injure it). Has anybody else had this happen? It's been bugging me ever since. The only relief is when I'm laying down on my side.
Exercise - I really try to go to the gym but have been so sleepy lately that I have not been able to go. I really need to motivate myself!
My stomach is starting to pop out a little bit. Both my husband and mom noticed it. I'm definitely feeling bloated. I've been meaning to take a belly shot one of these days.
I don't remember who posted about the orange cravings awhile back ago, but you created an orange monster in me! :) Ever since I read that I've been drinking and eating oranges and juice every time I can get my hands on them! So good! The funny thing is that normally I never drink orange juice or eat oranges.
----------
Kenswife - I hear you on looking forward to warmer weather. We had a nice weekend (cold but sunny) and I felt so good!
Nutter - I'm sorry to hear about the anxiety attacks! It's totally understandable though. Our bodies are not our own any more and I worry all the time too.
She-Ra - I'm so sorry about Vegas. That does not sound like fun to be around all of that smoke! I'm glad that you made it through.
jbemommy - I hope that your morning sickness gets better soon!
Midwesterngal - Wow, that projectile vomit does not sound like fun. Feel better soon!
I forgot to mention before that this weekend I phoned my Gramma and told her our big news that she's going to be a great-gramma. She was pretty excited. Word has also spread through the hospital, it sure didn't take long. My last couple of shifts have been fun 'cause people keep coming up to me and saying, "I heard a rumour.." or whispering in my ear, "I heard your pregnant!" So I've been getting all sorts of congratulations. I would have started telling everyone in a week anyways, so I don't mind. Plus its fun to finally be able to tell people how excited I am.
I've noticed in the past week that my stomach is looking a bit bigger, or rather I'm just definately getting thicker. My husband says he can't tell, but I can. For fun, I tried on my bikini the other day. I think it looks just as good as it did last summer, except my tummy is a bit bigger, and if I plan on wearing it this year I'm going to have to get a bigger top 'cause I'm already outgrowing it.
Those Bella bands sound interesting. For those of you who wear them, aren't you afraid your pants will fall down if they're undone?! I think I'd be paranoid about it.
Michelle, it was, and still is, me eating all things orange! I just love love love mandarin oranges, eat 'em every day. I guess its good that I'm loving such a healthy food. My lower back also gets really sore, especially when I'm at work (I think the uncomfortable chairs make it worse). I'm really hoping to start doing yoga or something soon in hopes that will make it better.
Pamela - I'm telling one set of grandparents this sunday, and then my other grandma the following saturday, when I'm home in NY visiting my family. I'm so excited to tell them - how exciting that you got to tell yours! :)
oh, and on the bella band - there is no way your pants would fall down while using it - it's too tight to let that happen. it's quite comfortable, actually!
Michelle - That was also me on the orange kick. I've been drinking orange juice mixed with Sprite every night. Sooooooooooo goood. I think I'm getting canker (sp?) sores form all the citric acid. :rolleyes:
Meetings all day today. Groan. Ready to get home.
Hasta pastas,
I'm one of those orange freaks too! I go through a container of orange juice every other day! And last night I was cutting up an orange for DH's lunch and I actually for a moment thought about takng the oranges out and replacing it with an apple, because I didn't want to share my oranges! LOL
So much to catch up on - I've been laying low lately because I had quite a scare on Friday – I went to the bathroom and I had a huge gush of blood. It was bright red and pretty heavy. I was sure the pregnancy was over – It was awful... I was able to get to the doctors that afternoon and amazingly when they did the US, “the kid” was there, looking fine, growing ahead of schedule and HB was at a healthy 165. They didn't see any tares, and no reason for the bleeding... It was just left at “sometimes these things happen, as long as there is a HB not to worry...” Well, I've been worrying since, but the bleeding has since stopped and I've been more nauseous then ever, so I'm starting to feel a little better about things. I have another US on Friday to check on the babe again. This growing a kid is stressful business!
I feel so far behind everyone. I spent the day being all excited that I am almost 8 weeks and then I come here and everyone is like 10 weeks!! Oh well..... I am just glad to be pregnant!
I broke down and bought some maternity pants today. It just hurt so bad to sit with my jeans on. The ones I bought actually fit me very well with room to grow. And the stretchy waist band is so comfy. It feels like wearing pajamas! I am so bloated after I eat that I just needed pants with more room.
I am pretty tired so I guess I should go to sleep.
nigellas - so sorry to hear about the scare you had! I'm glad everything is OK!
MichelleRenee - Just enjoy being PG! I know how long the time seems when you're anxious for the fun parts of pregnancy. By October, you'll wonder where the last 9 months went!
pamela - that's cool you told your gramma! We told my grandfather, but it's 5th great-grandchild, so even though he's happy, it's kind of old hat for him now.
Hope everyone's doing well!
I'm still lurking until I really know my due date but wanted to say that I was on a huge citrus kick during my last pregnancy! Oranges, grapefruits, juices. I would eat them non-stop.
Kate and Happy, I am sorry for your losses and I will say a prayer for you and your husbands.
Exercise? Just running around after an 11-month old. And napping when I can. Napping is exercise, right? I mean, you burn calories and everything!
I am still sick as a dog, extremely nauseous. No puking though.
Threw up this morning while DH was changing my son's diaper. In another room. Not fun.
I wished I crave oranges & healthy stuff. If I am eating I just want pasta w/ meat sauce or I want fast food burgers. In non PG life I rarely eat fast food, or red meat, but I figure it is better to have something in my stomach than nothing at all.
I had HORRIBLE vivid dreams last night. I dreamt I was in an elevator falling, and I just kept telling the people I was with to tell my son I loved him, and then later I dreamt I was shot at an airport. Yikes.
Anyone else having nightmares?
She-ra I had a horrible nightmare last night! I dreamed that I had this baby--another girl--and when it was about 6 months old, she and DD both drowned! I was just crying and crying and so sad--I was very glad to wake up. But then I dreamed that DD had a hole in her spine and I could look in and see her spinal cord!
11 weeks today and I'm very happy to say that my clothes still fit! Haven't had any problems with pants yet. I'm looking forward to getting out all my new maternity clothes, but I know I'll be sick of them by the end of summer, so the longer I wait to start wearing them, the better.
Hi Ladies,
I'm finally coming out of lurkdom and joining. I had my ultrasound yesterday and everything looked good, so I feel more comfortable joining.
Name: D, 29
DH: M, 32
Married: 10-5-02
TCC: Aug 05 (m/c is Sept 05)
Due Date: 10-23-06
This is our first baby. We miscarried in Sept 05, so we were so relieved when everything was okay at the ultrasound. The baby is measuring right where it should be and the heartbeat was strong. I've been feeling okay. I haven't thrown up, but have felt nausea and had indigestiong and heartburn. Very tired, but then have trouble sleeping through the night. I've needed to rubberband some of my pants. I think this weekend I will buy a pair of jean in the next size up to hold me over for a little while. So excited to finally join this group!!
Well, I had a "surprise" announcement that I am supposed to start "student teaching" on MONDAY!!! :eek: :mad: Sooooo, I just got a lot of maternity clothes over the weekend because (1) almost none of my pants (except 2 pair) fit right now, and (2) it's an entirely different dress code from the place that I work now. :rolleyes:
Plus, I'm not wearing my wedding rings today, because my fingers are all swollen. This and the pants are probably due to the fact that I was already gaining weight RIGHT BEFORE I got pg, anyway. :(
Welcome Mrs.Mac!!! Congrats on the reassuring ultrasound!
She-Ra - I understand the nightmares! I had a dream the other night that I had blood taken and somehow they could tell from the bloodwork that I had an abnormal mass and when I asked the dr (over the phone) if it was cancer, he wouldn't answer me. Must be a pregnancy thing for sure.
Rippy - I'm actually finishing my Masters and cert. for teaching. Good luck on your student teaching adventure! Don't feel bad about the rings. I couldn't wear mine at the end of my last pregnancy and for about 5 months after. Then, I finally can wear them and now I'm pregnant again! I decided to put them on a chain and wear them as a necklace instead. Then I don't feel as bad.
Exercise??? - What's that?!? I agree with Lydia, napping is my exercise. :) I have no energy right now so I'll leave the exercising to the second trimester ....
Nigellas, glad to hear everything is okay!!
I have had a few really disturbing dreams over the past few weeks (apparently dream quality is enhanced during pregnancy, but I dunno why). In one, my father died, and in another I was trapped in a creepy old house with a woman who was keeping her daugher (who had the stigmata) locked in the attic and was trying to kill me!
Rippy, good luck with the teaching!
I have read that citrus is really good for fetal brain development. Also that babies whose mothers eat chocolate are happier. :)
Welcome, Mrs-Mac!!!
8 weeks today and my pants are feeling tight. I started wearing a pair of my "fat pants" this week. (I saved all my old clothes after I lost 25 lbs. a couple of years ago.) I think I'll look into some more transitional pants after my next appt in about 2 weeks.
Hi Mrs-Mac! Glad to hear your appointment went so well. :D
Citrus I've been having big grapefruit cravings this week. Also, I just bought some V-Fusion juice in the tropical orange flavor. It's a full serving of veggies and fruit in 8oz. But, it's really thick, so I water it down to make 12oz.
Thanks kenswife and Quartercentury for the good luck. I'm actually really freaked out about it, and I've been having anxiety attacks. Not good for me and the l'il one. :(
This student teaching didn't really come at the most opportune time ... of course, either did the BFP. :)
Dreams ~ I do have very awful nightmares some nights. But, other nights, my dreams are just sooo vivid. You'll ALLLLL get a great laugh at the last vivid dream (on Monday night) ... the characters from Beverly Hills 90210 were all my IRL friends. I was actually living in a 90210 world ... it was the craziest thing in the world. It would take me forever to write down everything that happened in the dream, but it was so vivid that I still remember all of it today. So funny!!! It was 90210 with an L&O:SVU spin on the storyline. LMAO!!!
I think I'm allergic to being pregnant!! :p
No, really!! I'm breaking out in rash all over!! On my outside thigh, on the underside of my bicep, under my chin!!
My doctor gave me a mild cortisone cream, and has no idea what it's coming from! She joked that I'm allergic to being pregnant, but I think it's true!! :p
Nigellas, sorry you had such a scare! Glad to hear everything is ok.
She-re, not having nightmares, but just really vivid and often wierd dreams. Last night I dreamed that my water broke (and I was all excited too, nevermind that I'm 11 weeks and going into labour would Not be a good thing!), and it just kept leaking and leaking and I was just leaving these massive puddles of amniotic fluid everywhere.
Quartercentury, well, with all of the orange-y goodness I've been eating lately, this should be one smart little pumpkin! The chocolate thing is cool too -- I had planned to eat chocolate like a fiend while pregnant ('cause thats what I normally do!)I, but I'm just not interested in it :eek: which is really wierd for me.
Maplekitty - Oh no...could it possibly be PUPP's rash this early? I only mention it b/c I had it with my first - I think it started around 30 weeks or so. Just something to ask the doc if it continues - there isn't much they can do for it and I won't go into the yucky details. But it doesn't typically present on the face, hands, or feet - so if it is on your chin that might not be it. Let me know how the cortisone works - if it doesn't I can give you my list of topical creams that helped me. Is it itchy?
What exactly is PUPP's rash?
eta: I looked it up, and I don't have it on my stomach, so I dn't think that's it?
I've broken out in rash before because my skin is sensitive and I reacted toa new moisturizer. I just wonder if because my skin is so sensitive, I'm breaking out in rash due to the increased hormones or something.
Yes, it's hella itchy, the bumps are skin colour until I scratch them raw in my sleep and they start to bleed - horrible eh? I wake up with blood under my fingernails from scratching so hard!
Maplekitty, sorry to hear about the rash. That sounds awful. Maybe try soaking in Aveeno oatmeal bath.
Well, I'm very confused over here. I went for an ultrasound yesterday nad DH and I got to see the little fluttering heartbeat. My NP ordered the ultrasound becuase my cycles are really whacky and when I went to see her last Monday my Hcg was 7,000, which was a bit low for how far along we thought I was at the time (7 weeks). According to yesterday's ultrasound I was 6 weeks 5 days yesterday and by my LMP I should be 8 weeks. I guess that's why my Hcg level seemed so low last week because technically, I was 5 weeks 4 days when I was tested. This is all so confusing to me. I mean I know my cycles are really long but when the heck did I ovulate. The NP is suppose to call me back this afternoon and I might go in to check Hcg again.
Well, it looks like I might be a November mom instead.
nigellas - so sorry to hear about your scare! but so glad that everything is okay. hope you can take it easy and start to relax a bit from here on in. :)
welcome mrs. mac!!
I think I forgot to note that at my dr's appt last week my doctor said to add an Omega-3 supplement as it helps with the baby's brain development. My dr used "Omega Mom" when she was PG last year and said it was the only one she found that didn't have a "fishy" taste to it if you burped after taking it. So, I bought 2 bottles of it at Whole Foods on Friday (it was on sale! how's that for fate!!) and so far, so good.
So, Chocolate breeds happier babies? Sounds good to me! I seem to have a chocolate craving most afternoons. Not for a ton of it, just a little.
Oranges - didn't like them pre-pg, still not liking them. But I do love lemons! My main cravings right now seem to be tomatoes, salad, and chocolate.
I tried on a bunch of maternity pants last night that I had bought over the past year (on ebay mostly - when something caught my eye and it was cheap, I went for it!) and if I stuck my belly out a bit, it was neat to see that I "looked" pregnant! Those pants are SO much more comfortable than regular ones... I'm sure that I'll be making that transition by early april.
Tomorrow DH and I go in for our genetic testing appointment! I'll be sure to update everyone with whatever we learn! :)
Just got in from my appt. We tried to hear the heartbeat on the doppler, she caught it for a sec and then it would move. So we did the u/s and we saw the baby, she said it was flipping and the heartbeat was good, it was 151 bpm. My bp was on the high side again, so she prescribed meds, but I am waiting to get them until next week after I see the specialist. I also have to take the 3 hour GTT already, preferred she said before I see the specialist on Tuesday morning.
I go for another appt in 2 weeks and we planned the next few appts as well. So I have all my appts with the OB through April.
