I'm in the market for a glider. Originally I wasn't liking the Dutalier style gliders, however after looking around and sitting in a few different chairs, I think they may have grown on me some. I also like the Potterybarn style
overstuffed slipcovered gliders, but now I'm having second thoughts on those after sitting in a few.
SO, what kind of glider do you have, and if it's not too personal how much did it cost? also, please post pics of your gliders!!

I love, love, love ours! It is so comfy. Obviously I haven't used it with the babe yet, though. It's green gingham. We ordered it at BRU, the company name is Jardine. The rocker and ottoman came as a set, but I can't remember the cost.

LeslieR - I just ordered the same glider and ottoman set - with the $25 off coupon that BRU is running right now, I got the whole set for $314.99

I have the same green gingham glider that LeslieR and bombedier each have. I love it!! It is such a breeze to put my daugther to sleep when we glide in it and she loves story time because she can sprawl out or sit next to me in the chair. Good buy!!

Although I think the fully upholstered ones are much more attractive, I found my Dutalier to be way more comfy. Ours is a dark stain with a neutral fabric.
We bought ours at USA baby. They have the same one at BRU, but we wanted the microfiber fabric for ease of clean up. I think we paid 4 hundred something. It was a little more with this fabric. We did not get a reclining one and I am already wishing we did (but my baby isn't here yet so maybe I really don't need it).
If you really want to see it, it's on page 5 of the nursery pictures thread.

My glider is very simple, but it's beyond comfortable, was inexpensive, and has worked out wonderfully. I got it at BRU.

Kind of hard to see it in this photo, but here it is! Got it at BRU - was a Dutailier (sp?) floor model.

My brother/SIL bought this Shermag glider and ottoman from Target. It looks great in person and it's very comfortable!
$299.99

Please post pics and also what you like about your glider! DH and I really want to invest in a good quality chair that we will have forever, even after we're done having kids. We're thinking of looking for one at a locally owned small furniture place instead of through Target (where we're registering). Not sure yet though. I've heard great things about Dutailier. For example I saw this one I like on the Target website:
Dutailier Sleigh Glider

But they don't really give much info about it. I'd really like one that reclines. Pretty much I'm clueless about other features that I might want. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, ladies! :)

We bought a Dutalier and I love it. There are two differnent kinds like mine, we got the one with the taller arms and I'm so glad I did. It makes it easier to breastfeed (for me). Plus I got the ottoman with the nursing stool in it. I probably could have saved by not getting the stool, but I do use.
I almost went with a larger (wider) one that doesn't look so "nursery" but I'm glad I didn't. This one is cozy without being small, and I'm always comfortable in it.

We got this one from Best Chairs "Storytime" Line in a light kahki/tan color. I really wanted a glider that didn't have the wood frame. Maybe it's me but the wood frame says "grandma" to me. That could be because my grandma was the first person I know to own a glider and it had a wood frame :o It is very comfortable and swivels as well....which is another great feature I don't think most wood frame gliders have. We got the matching glider stool as well. I figure a chair like this I will fit in my house easier after a baby. I just can't see having a wood glider in my decore. Anyhow...enough about my dislike of wood gliders
One thing I wish I would have checked out more was the height of the back of the chair. This one is a mid height and I can lay my head back on it. However the MANY times I fallen asleep in this chair leaves me with a kink in my neck. I would prefer a chair with a taller back.
ETA: I think we paid $280 for the whole thing. I could be off on that but I swear it was under $300. We got it at USA Baby.

This is ours. It's a Dutailier that we bought through albeebaby.com

I remember thinking we got a really good deal on it compared to what it would have cost at a local store. It was something like $400 with free shipping. I sat in a bunch of chairs at the store and picked this one based mostly on the fact that it is tall enough to rest my head on. It does not recline or swivel and the ottoman doesn't have that angled ramp footrest thing though- we got the base model.

any more opinions on gliders?
I liked this Shermag best from the ones in store at Babies R Us.

I don't have it yet but I'm fairly certain we're ordering the Dutailier Grande. It's the only one we sat in at BRU that made us not want to get up. It glides and reclines which is key for us. We have a regular rocker/recliner that was used for our first two children and it's so necessary for us to have recline when kids are sick/need to still be somewhat upright. We'd be using it for this baby too but Maura (2) still likes to be rocked before bed so we're splurging on it and an ottoman...it's all cheaper at BRU.

I have an Eames lounger in DS's room, but it's so not comfy for long stretches. So for this baby, I ordered a Dutailier Matrix glider. No pics yet- still waiting for it. But I loved it in the store and can't wait to get it!!

I hope this thread still gets a little attention b/c I need advice!
My MIL bought be a (very cheap :o) glider, back in 2004, that I've always disliked b/c it's incredibly uncomfortable. DD rode the chair down (stood up, facing backward, then tipped over :o:o ) and finally broke part of the back. So, now I'm thinking I should buy a new chair. I could get away with using it, but I'm still nursing DD in it, so I'd like to have a little more support & comfort.
My question is: should I buy an armchair of some sort that will be able get lots more use in her room down the road, rather than another wooden glider? Will I want to keep a chair, of any sort, in her room for years to come? I'm afraid that it might just be a waste of money & that I should bear with the broken one, for several more months, until I wean.....
thank you!!

We went a non-traditional route and put a lazy-boy recliner in our DD's room. DH is 6'2" and none of the gliders had a tall enough back for him to comfortably sleep in and I was all about sharing the middle of the night wakings! It has worked fabulous for us.
daphne, I plan to keep a chair in DD's room (maybe not the recliner, but something comfy) to read her bedtime stories in. So if I were you, I'd replace it with something geared towards that purpose vs BF.

I did what boilermaker did and bought a recliner. WAY more cushy and soft, and comfy enough to sleep in. Plus we can then move it to a family room later when it's not needed in the baby's room.

We bought the Braxton glider and ottoman in the Storytime series, it was the softest chair we sat in and well worth the money, I nursed DS for 6 months in it and we still do most of his bottles in that chair. We got it in brown and can move it to the living room once we are finished with using it for all kiddoes. DH loves the chair possibly more than I do. Can post pics if needed

We have a Shermag Glider set from Target although I see that they call themselves Hanford now? Hanford Glider (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html?ie=UTF8&asin=B000S8J09Q)
We've been happy with it so far. We keep a blanket over the top and have a throw pillow on the chair so it blends into the room more. We looked at some more modern or furniture type gliders/chairs but decided against them b/c of size. Our nursery is quite small so the glider fit well. Not sure what we'll do with it once DD is older, but since it was inexpensive ($200'ish) it isn't such a big deal if we craigslist it.
This is the luca chair that we almost bought:
http://www.montedesign.net/images/pic_chair_charcoal.jpg
However it was $895 and a lot bigger. Luca Chair (http://www.montedesign.net/modern_nursery_glider.html)
