I think DH and I are going to change our cell phone service over to Tmobile. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about them?

It depends on the are, but I LOVE Tmobile. We've had alltel, Nextel, & Verizon. Tmobile is the best.

DH and I have had t-mobile for almost a year. Never had a problem. We're going to renew next month (thats one thing a lot of people like about tmobile, it's just a one year contract, most other places are two.) and get a free phone upgrade.

We've had T-Mobile for nearly 4 years now. In my opinion, no one can match the customer service. And the prices are totally right. We have had a family plan the entire time and we have varied our monthly minutes a few times but that has never been an issue.

I had AT&T for quite awhile and had no complaints, but they are VERY expensive.

Jason had Cingular and wouldn't touch them again if they were the only cell phone company on earth. Dropped calls, bad customer service, the works. Now that they've bought AT&T, I'm quite skeptical about what AT&T will turn into.

Thanks. I have AT & T right now and it's fine, but too expensive. DH hasn't been very happy with Nextel or Verizon.

I guess we'll give TMobile a try. I do like that it is only a year contract.

I just got my first cell phone last week through T-Mobile. I liked that they offered a 1-year contract, and also that you can get 1000 minutes plus free evenings and weekends for $39.95/month. I think that is a pretty good deal.

I've only had it for 5 days, so I can't tell you any more than that - but so far, so good!

We're going to be switching to T-Mobile when our Verizon contract expires to save money. They have good service and coverage in our area, and they’re such a good deal.

I can also vouch for Tmobile's customer service. I had them for a yr and recently switched to Cingular b/c both of our families had it and we seem to talk to them the most. But I was quite sad to leave Tmobile b/c I had excellent service with them. They were very reasonably priced and even allowed DH and I to have 2 different area codes on the same family plan. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was their coverage map. We went to NC and were on Cingular's network.

I've been with T-Mobile for a few months now, and really like them. They have good coverage, I have a great plan for the money, and I really like the phone I have.

In my experience:
Area Coverage = AWESOME
Phones Available = GREAT
Pricing Plans = PERFECT
Customer Service = CRAP (but I havent had an issue in a super long time, which is good :) )

We had T-Mobile for years and loved them! We had to switch recently, though, because we weren't getting good reception at our house. They said they'd have an engineer sent out to our neighborhhod to see what's up, but it didn't get better. So, we had to change. I highly recommend them, though.

We're going to renew next month
You don't have to renew. We actually preferred not to renew just in case we ever had a problem. When your contract is up, just don't cancel. Your service will continue.

We've had T-Mobile for about 10 months. It's been good and bad. Before switching we were told by friends that when the reception is good, it's excellent, but when it's bad, it's really bad. There's no in-between and they were right. About a month ago there was a problem with signal in our home area and it took them 3 days to fix it. We didn't have service (only near our home) during the entire 3 days. I guess a lot of people were calling in to complain because it also took me almost a day to get through to customer service (I kept hanging up after being on hold for 30 minutes or longer). I also don't like that it takes a while for the phone to "boot up" after turning it on or coming out of a subway.

I will say that the coverage area of T-Mobile is not as good as what I had with AT&T (but again, with AT&T I paid dearly for it). Since I am rarely way out in the boondocks making cell phone calls, it hasn't been an issue.

You don't have to renew your contract when it comes up again, but to get a new phone you have to.

All good!

I was with Verizon for years and loved them.

Then got stuck with AT&T which should be shut down. I swear their network is a handful of rusty cans with shoelaces connecting them, and their employees are not allowed to have an IQ over 17.

So finally DH & I got T-Mobile a couple years ago, and I am SO HAPPY! We talk free to each other, and I have never ever ever had a problem with billing, service or anything else. Have used their network in NY, NJ, MA, CT, RI, FL, IL, CA and HI as well as Aruba with absolutely no problems. Highly recommend them!

I've had both t-mobile and verizon. They both have pro's and cons. One of my biggest pet peeves with t-mobile is how they flat out lied to us about where our service area is/was. When we completely switched to t-mobile, it was because we could talk free to each other. Also, they had a big sign of our state and all of Vancouver Island Canada on it. It showed service to all of it, the entire island. Not one tad bit of service up there with our t-mobile, even with roaming. That kind of pissed us off, because with verizon, at least we could "kind of " get a signal from the top of the island in Canada. I know, we live in WA why is this such a big deal for service in CA, well, it's because DH takes a fishing trip every year up there and there isn't any other way to get ahold of him.

So we gave up our verizon, which wasn't that bad, and except for the lie about Canadian coverage, we've been fairly happy with t-mobile. The only place I really have no coverage on a daily basis is when I pass the navy base, which is to be expected.

One other thing, don't think about getting t-mobile to be hooked up to your computer. DH travels with laptop to NC 3-4 times a year. Bought 2 different phones, specifically for hooking up to laptop, neither one of them ever worked and once they sold us the wrong phone, oh, and they charge us roaming in NC, for some reason. Guess the area he's in doesn't have t-mobile lines.

So, day to day, I guess our t-mobile does the trick. Couldn't say that with verizon and our friends have nextel and pay way too much a month!

Hello

We got Tmobile about 4 months ago and I HATE THEM. They did not tell my husband on the phone that we were in a low to no coverage area so our phones don't work in any buildings or 95 percent around where we live. My husband works a hour away and they work perfect there but that doesn't do me much good. We got the plan that was 2 phones for 70.00 a month my bill every month is 100.00. Its almost 30.00 worth of taxes they tax each phone individual and when we added a 5.00 text message plan they told us it was for both phones then we get the bill and its 5.00 per phone.

The customer service is horrible they keep saying yea it must be frustrated that your phone doesn't work and we didn't tell you but oh well! This is what I get for letting my husband make the decison as who to go with.

On the other hand my Aunt has it who lives a hour away and her's is wonderful so before you decide to get it definately check the coverage zone I hope the next 8 months go fast so we can get out of the plan.

I really like tmobile and my family all uses them and still do. However, we moved a few months back and I swear there is a black hole surrounding our house. The phones will not work in here. My family has no problems but when they come here, they wont work either. It is the weirdest thing. I do have to say that tmobile tried to figure it out and then ended up giving us free service until our contraact expired. Overall I am truly pleased with the service we got and would recommend them! We have Verizon now and they are okay.... they at least work in our house ;)

We've had T-Mobile for about 10 months, and we're planning on renewing at the end of our year contract since we desperately need a phone upgrade. I think the customer service is awesome and the prices are great. When we signed up (online) they outlined exactly what it would be per month including taxes. Make sure to check the coverage area and that it works for you, since its not always as extensive as other companies, but we were fine with that and are rarely out of network. The only thing we dislike is our cheapo Nokia phones we got for free with our plan, and now know you get what you pay for!

I've been with T-Mobile for 2 years and have had no problem with them. One suggestion I have to for you is to check out the coverage area before you commit to them. Apparently one city can have great coverage, but the neighboring city will have zero reception. My brother lives a couple of cities away from me and has absolutely no reception inside his house and barely any reception outside (he's also on T-Mobile).

I've been with T-Mobile for about 5 years (ever since they started offering service in the Seattle area) & have been very pleased with them. I feel that my rate plan is competitive with what other providers out there have to offer, my signal coverage is good (a lot better now than it was back when they first started serving this area though, I will admit), & the few times I've had to deal with customer service they have been helpful & efficient. I like my phone (this is the 3rd I've had over the 5 or so years I've been with them) & when I wanted a new phone last year they had lots of good choices, plus I got a pretty decent handset discount for being a long-term customer. I have used my phone with no problems in WA, OR, CA, NV, GA, IL...& even in Fiji during our HM! :D

Each year when my contract comes up for renewal they send me a letter asking me to renew. Usually they offer me something to entice me to renew - sometimes a credit on my next bill, sometimes some free minutes, sometimes a really good discount on a new phone, etc. I can choose to renew the annual contract, or I can not renew & just let my account become a month-to-month contract. So far I've opted to renew each year to take advantage of whatever it is they offer me, because I know I'm satisfied enough with their service that I don't plan to cancel my account in the coming year. ;)

Coverage obviously varies from one area to the next so I have no idea if they're any good in that respect in your particular area. But with regards to other aspects of their service & products, I've been a very happy customer. :)

On the T-Mobile web site, they have a "check street level coverage" feature in their coverage map. You can put in your address and see what the coverage is at your house, work, where ever. It sucks living in a phone black hole. We moved into our house right after signing a 2 year contract with Verizon, and had pretty much no coverage here.

I had T-Mobile for a minute and it was okay. However my area is not a big T-Mobile area so the coverage was scarce. In my area, Verizon, Sprint, and now Cingular are the big ones and they provide the most coverage. I switch to Cingular for that reason plus for the rollover! My daughter had T Mobile pre pay and it is awsome for kids. The customer service is great but because where I live, the coverage was not that great....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Don't switch.

Ok, 2 years ago when I was a Tmobile (was a customer) they had NO Coverage. They took over for Cellular one.

I thought the phone was cute, so I signed on. I ended up dropping a call a day. I was miserable. Finally I went to the mall and the guy told me that there was nothing to do but get out of the contract. I didn't want to spend the money, so I told TMOBILE I was moving to a location with no cell phone service, and they by law have to let you out of the contract. They didn't make me prove anything ... but from what I gather, they do now.

I was miserable for the 2 months I had there service. Maybe its becuase they were new but I will NEVER go back. Most peope are Verizon, and it makes it easier to call friends because its free to talk to each other :)

We have the same issue and it drives me bananas! And it's not the provider; everyone who comes to our house can't use their cell phone there. Our house is just in a terrible spot for coverage, I guess. Sucks because we would give up our land line otherwise. Since we live in the suburbs, we have a metro phone line which is more expensive than a regular local line.

I worked for TMO for 7 1/2 years. Despite having aged significantly during that time, I'm very proud to have been a part of their organization. After leaving the company, and thus losing my wonderful employee plan (ahh, the days of endless minutes), I signed on as a retail customer. I'd recommend it. The company is run by good people who truly believe that good customer service is essential to success.

I went ahead and ordered a plan with two new phones from Letstalk.com, so I could get free phones. I didn't like the ones Tmobile had. I am excited to try it, I think Tmobile has a 7-14 day return policy so hopefully I will be able to get a feel for their coverage.

Thanks everyone!

Hope it works well for you. I believe the return period is now 14 days, but if you're uncertain at day 6 or 7 if you want to keep it you should double check the contract.

Oh, and make sure you look over your contract with Let's Talk carefully. Some authorized dealers will charge you a "restocking fee" if you don't return the phones to them after cancelling service before the contract term expires.

My husband has a pay-as-you-go plan with T-mobile because he doesn't use his cell much. His coverage here on the East Coast is perfectly fine, but when he visits family in the Dakotas, all bets are off and he ends up using my Cingular (now ATT) line.

I had a co-worker simply rave about T-Mobile and how great her reception is in my apartment complex, where my Nextel may as well be a tin can with a string attached to it. So I ordered a T-Mobile phone from Amazon, it should be here soon. Hopefully they will live up to the raves.

I know I already posted in this thread awhile back, but I have to agree with this:
Their customer service is wonderful.
Honestly I've had a few less-than-stellar experiences in T-Mobile stores with their sales associates, but every time I've ever had to call T-Mobile Customer Care I've always gotten competent, friendly and efficient service and resolution to my question/problem. In fact just last week DH went to the local T-Mobile store to buy a new phone, and the sales person gave him mis-information and got him to agree to add something to our account that we didn't need/already had. When he told me about it I called Customer Care and got the problem fixed and obtained the correct info within just a few minutes. :)

That's been our experience with Verizon, but for more money. And forget saying one syllable words because it doesn't pick them up. I can't count the number of arguments DH & I have had because we thought the other one was being rude or something, when it was just that the phone service was so bad we couldn't even hear simple yes or no answers.

My phone came today. So far, I am completely unimpressed with T-Mobile. My signal doesn't seem to be much better than my old one. I am supposed to be on the myFaves plan but it's taking forever for the settings to change, and it beeps, says it's updated but it still won't work.
I had two dropped calls just while calling to activate the damn thing.
I am beyond aggravated.

It's getting better. Last night I sat out on my patio and successfully talked on the phone for almost 3 hours. My Nextel eve in the best coverage would have dropped it at some point, if the battery didn't quit first.
With Nextel I could assign ringtones to each person-can I do that on my Razr? I can't seem to find it in the menu anywhere.

We switched from T-Mobile from Cingular in July and are paying about $50 less a month--obviously a big savings. We live in a rural area so cell reception is not 100%, but that was true with Cingular also. You can check local coverage on their website, which is definitely helpful before you buy. I don't think I like my phone as well as my old one, but that's really my only complaint, and I picked the phone. It did take a few calls to keep our old numbers, but it was worth the hassle. The CS people are very friendly (even when I wasn't :o) and the price is right.

On my razr you can. Go to the name you want to assign. Hit view then edit. Scroll down to Ringer ID. Once there you can pick your ring.
