I said memorable *or* romantic, because personally, my best Valentines was spent one year while in university, with a bunch of my girlfriends. We rented the "study room" and made a big fancy potluck dinner. We all wore red or pink, had "romantic" music going (Barry White, haha), one girl even made a heart shaped cake. It was so fun, we sat around and bashed ex-boyfriends, and gtot tipsy over our cheapo champagne :D

One year, my ex-BF filled his candle lit apartment with red, white and pink balloons - on the end of each of the balloon ribbons, he had tied a chocolate kiss. But, on the end of one, was my gift - a pair of earrings he had made! He went to Michael's and bought all the supplies to make them - they were gold (toned - lol) hoops with a dangly angel on them. Ok, the earrings turned my ears green almost from the moment I put them on, but WOW, the sentiment REALLY blew me away. He went through a lot of trouble to create that scene for me.

In the end though, that Valentine's Day was much like our relationship: Fun, but toxic (like the earrings).

So far every Valentines has been memorable/romantic because our (DH and I) anniversary is February 15th. Three years next month :D :D! If I had to pick one, it would be the day before we got married. That was the day DH met my mom and dad for the first time, and that was the day my mom and dad met DH's mom and dad for the first time. We all went to Macaroni Grill (sp?) for a Valentines/celebration dinner. It was a wonderful evening I will never forget.

Mine was when I was 15- my bf asked me over to his house to make dinner for me and we had a chocolate fondue for dessert. His parents were out somewhere downtown for the night and his sister was at her boyfriends. It started to snow outside and we lit a fire, he gave me a sexy nightie- and we cuddled by the fire. My dad couldn't get through the snow to come get me, and so I spent the night there!!It was very romantic!!

The other one that is really memorable (and not the good kind) was getting liquored up and accidently sleeping with a guy friend. Let's just say that sex, vomit, falling asleep, and scotch do not make a Happy Valentine's day. Glad I'm not like that anymore.

THIS sounds like a blast:

Two years ago we went to Paris for President's Day weekend, which is how we refer to Valentine's, since we're much more excited about getting the federal holiday off than we are about the hearts and chocolate and cards! It was my first time there, and we had a great time--I don't think we even noticed that it was V-Day.

My b-day is the week before Valentine's Day, so often the two get combined...my favorite was the one when DH (then FH) wrote me a song and his band performed it.

Ahhh, this brings back memories...lol. Since we've been dating for 6 years I think all of our romatic occasions were early on in the relationship..lol.

I think it was our third valentines together and usually I got dinner, jewlery, and flowers. That year I got a HUGE bouqet of roses sent to me, he picked me up and took me back to his house, cooked me dinner (lobster, shrimp, and scallop alfredo...all homemade) and he also made me a yummy apple dessert over vanilla icecream. After dinner he played music and we danced in the livingroom to candle light. He had a hot bubble bath ready with candles and roses all around. It was very romantic.....and something he has yet to repeat...lol.

I actually remember some of the non-romantic Valentines with more fondness. One year in college, my girlfriends and I dressed up in our best girly dresses and went to see Cinderella at the campus theater. Later that night, some guy friends and I went to McDonalds just as they were closing. We had french fries and milkshakes. Don't know why but that's still one of my favorites.
The other is when my then boyfriend gave me a teddybear he'd wrapped himself. It was the WORST wrapping job I've ever seen. But it was done with love and the bear was cute.

Mine was two years ago when DH (then BF) kidnapped me to New Orleans and proposed. (Well, not quite kidnapped, he did give a tiny bit of advanced warning the night before telling me to pack a bag for the weekend. But I still had no idea where we were going.)

aaaawwwww!
When DH adn I were first dating, he was also in a band. I used to wish they would write a song for me and play at one of their gigs. Well, it enver happened, but I never held it against him, LOL
The lead singer actually wrote all teh songs, adn I soon found out most fo them were nasty songs about ex-gfs, so I was glad they never wrote a song about me, LOL

My most romantic Valentine's was last year(mine and DH's second together). We got all dressed up and went out for a very expensive dinner, and i got a necklace and earrings (that I picked out myself). It was a combined birthday/Valentine's since my birthday is Feb 12.

That was very memorable, but up there is also the year before. I celebrated my birthday on Feb 13 and I had WAY too much to drink. The next morning Paul made me breakfast (toast) in bed (which I threw up after two bites), and gave me a small stuffed bunny with a bracelet around it's neck.

ETA: The restaurant we ate at last year was also the one we were at the night we got engaged.

any valentine's day that we shared in college is memorable because they were all amusingly awkward. for example, he would get me roses, but i had no place to put them except for a giant plastic promotional cup that had "fruitopia!" written on it. or i would get him chocolate, and his roommates would eat it. ahhh college...

as for post-college, in 2003 we drove down to NJ, had dinner and spent the evening with good friends of ours. that was a lot of fun. we were in NJ the rest of the weekend for wedding planning. so even though valentine's day wasn't exactly *romantic*, the weekend had a romantic flair to it. :)

I think I have got into an argument with my ex's just about EVERY Valentine's day. So no memorable ones there. I don't really have one that I can think of that was memorable with DH.

BUT, I think THIS Valentine's Day is going to be the MOST memorable one. We are going to be in Vegas, and it is our first V-tines as husband and wife! :)

My most memorable V-day was with a boyfriend in college. We didn't even see each other because I was in Chicago and he was in PA. We were both from NJ and I was feeling really really homesick. He was going home for the weekend to help his parents out with something and I told him to "say hello to the home soil for me."

When my V-day gift arrived in the mail, I received a bunch of tradition v-day stuff: chocolates, candles, etc., but the best was a jar of dirt from his backyard. He wrote me a little note saying that since I missed Jersey so much and couldn't get to it, he'd send a little bit of it to me.

I still have it.

Mine would be when I was a junior in high school... I was just sittin' at home on the computer when my mom came in and said "There's somebody here to see you"... I went out to the livingroom and there was my boyfriend, holding a giant white & red teddy bear... I honestly almost fainted, 'cuz he lived an hour & half away and coming down to see me spontaneously just wasn't all that possible. But his mom had had to come down for something with church and he tagged along.

My other memorable one was when DH & I moved in to our first apartment that was "ours" (the first apartment we lived in together was just in his name)... we moved in on Feb 15, but signed the lease on Valentine's Day and that night we brought over the TV, VCR & a blanket... we bought Subway and watched The Wedding Planner... sooo much fun. I miss that apartment LOL
