Hi there! My husband was born there (Navy brat) and spent most of his childhood there. His mom and dad very recently moved from Iceland to Spain but we had a chance to visit for two weeks about 2 years ago.

You are going to have a GREAT time!!! We went for 2 weeks in April and I would absolutely LOVE to go back.

We stayed with his parents, but did the normal touristy things like the Golden Circle Tour, Blue Lagoon, hot springs, etc.

thompso and her DH went there recently, you might want to check on hotel info from her. I know it's pretty pricey... we were lucky in that we had a place to stay for free.

If you have any questions, please ask. I'll ask my husband. He LOVES talking about Iceland. We hope to visit there again in the future.

Thanks! I am so glad to hear that. We were looking at this one web page, and it just seemed so cool. Thanks for the info on thompso, I'll definitely have to PM her for some info. I'm going to talk to DH tonight, so I'll probably have a list of questions soon. :) I know what you mean about the place for free, except for my honeymoon, every time I've traveled abroad, I've known someone and had a place to stay, it really helps out!

tinkerbelljenny - Thanks. Surprisingly DH suggested it, and he's the one that wanted to see the US before going abroad! ;)

Bumping

So hopefully I can get some more info. ;)

Plus we are looking for other suggestions as well, since we figured out the city is somewhat expensive. So any other travel suggestions just throw them out!

P&P- Do you remember SweetRed from wc? She and her DH went there on their honeymoon. She has a home journal here- so I'm sure you could PM her. They had a pretty awesome trip. She is also on LJ alot.
I was once...involved...with someone from Iceland for a couple of years- I can tell you how to say a few things in the language- but that is about it.

My husband and I went back in 2000. We did a pretty cheap / short packaged thru Icelandair and had a great time. Iceland is an amazing place.

We went in May and it was still pretty cold..but I think the cold contrast really makes the geo thermal spring experience that much more intersting.

The only down side is that Iceland is an extremely expensive place. Quite possible the most expensive place Ive ever visited. We were astounded at how much the small things cost.

Hope that helps!

No need to PM me, here I am. ;)

My DH and I spent 4 days in Iceland in September and it was gorgeous (but wicked expensive). We stayed at Room with a View (http://roomwithaview.is/) and would highly recommend it. It was price-competitive with the hotel rooms we saw, but it's all studio apartments, so we were able to eat some of our meals in and save some money. The owner, Arni, is awesome and speaks perfect English (then again, almost everyone in Iceland does!).

We took the Golden Circle tour with Iceland Excursions (http://www.allrahanda.is/Ferdir/DayTours2005/AH12.asp) (we booked it through the tourist office in Reykjavik, which is just down the hill from Room with a View). It was fantastic, we learned a lot about Iceland and saw some really stunning sights.

We stopped at the Blue Lagoon (http://bluelagoon.com/) on our way to the airport, and it was the perfect way to relax before a long flight. It's not cheap, but I would go again in a heartbeat!

My DH and I were just transcribing our travel journal from the trip (we'll eventually put it on the web with our pictures). If you want a copy, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you!

I went to Iceland for a weekend several years ago. I don't have any specific hotel recommendations - we stayed in a tiny and unremarkable B&B. I had the most fun just romping around in the countryside - it was so beautiful! And the Blue Lagoon was wonderful and unforgettable. I would love to go back someday. Have a great time exploring!

DH and I are considering Iceland for June. However, I'll be 6 months PG. Does anyone know if you can go in the waters preggo? I heard they were mineral waters, etc and I didn't know if that would be ok to go in. I might be just being silly....

The water is pretty hot (like a hot tub) so Id ask your doctor about it.

In case anyone is interested, my DH finally put our Iceland pics and journal online. You can see them here (http://www.jeremiahblatz.com/personal/pics/iceland-london-2005/).

I was just perusing the Travel section here looking for ideas for my own upcoming trips and saw this thread. How did I miss it?!?!? We loved Iceland.

Here are my public LJ posts on our HM trip there. Since your trip is coming up, I'd be happy to answer questions too.
