Would you get one? For a brand new building? Pros/cons of doing this?
Thanks!!!

Personally, I think I would. You'd want to know if the builder was slacking off on anything.

Definately!
They will be able to tell you if the drainage is correct, check the septic (if applicable), the plumbing, any areas of concern for leakage, etc....
Don't skip out on it because it is your only chance to make changes if they are needed. My friend just purchased a brand new house and they were lucky they had an inspection. The building inspector found that the drainage was going TOWARD the house instead of away from it. They could have ended up with a flooded basement!
Absolutely. There area always things wrong with new houses. Think about it: no one's lived in it to figure out its quirks. You definitely need an inspection.
We built brand new and we got one. If anything, it was good so we had a professional saying the same things we were (we were concerned about the grading and it was then fixed), as well as the builder complimenting the stability of the home. Definitely worth it.

We hired a home inspector. He pointed out a lot of things that I wouldn't have noticed, plus he was able to determine if things were up to code. Unless you have built a home or have carpentry knowledge, you'd never know if the builder took shortcuts, or if something is installed incorrectly.
One con that we found was the price, another $350.00 on top of all our new home expenses. I guess in the long run, we bought peace of mind. Another con was trying to get the builder to acknowledge that things were not up to code. We still haven't resolved the fact that the spindles on our railing were spaced too far apart(we're taking 1/4 of an inch - but still, why can't it be done correctly in the first place?)

We got an inspection for our brand new house, and it was totally worth it. He found A LOT of things wrong, big and small. Most of them we could have found ourselves over time; but it was nice to find them all and get them fixed before we moved in and without having to fight the builder on whether they were wrong before or if we "broke" them. Also, the inspector found things we never would have found: grading was a concern for us as well, and he commented on differing water pressure and some other things we probably would not have noticed. I would recommend it.

I would definitely recommend it because sometimes they work fast and miss things or not do them to your liking. It would be best to have them correct their mistakes then have to pay for them later.

I wish we had gotten one. There were many, many things wrong that had to be fixed during the first-year warranty that probably would have been noticed by an expert immediately. We had to fight like hell to get our drainage fixed and then to get our landscaping replaced.

We had a home inspection and used the major issues as our punch list at closing. We also have a one year warranty and we are fighting like hell the get work done!! It is well worth the cost of the inspection!!

I never had one, and while I don't regret it in that something major went wrong (our builder/management were PITAs as well), I would on another new house. My realtor didn't see the need, and I trusted her, but I think she was misguided.

When we had an inpection on our current home (which was not new construction), the inspector mentioned that he had actually inspected a brand new home where the toilet was not hooked up to the sewer. Even worse? This was the first house built in the development, so all the construction workers had been using that toilet, which was draining into the crawl space! Ick!
Definitely worth a couple hundred bucks if only for the peace of mind.

Now that is just terrible. That is enough to make *me* not want that house anymore.
