View Full Version : Weekly menu-planning recommendation: Cooknik!

My New Year's resolution this year was to start cooking "real" dinners at least three time per week... We're both very busy and often at meetings or at work until late, and we'd fallen into a pasta, beans and rice, or mac and cheese rut (or we'd get fast food-- !! )

So after poking around online, I found the Cooknik service on AllRecipes.com, and I have to say that it was definitely worth $15 for a 6-month subscription. Each week they email you 5 recipes, along with suggestions for side dishes, and (the best part!) an aisle-by-aisle shopping list. Although I have a bunch of cookbooks, I only would use them for special occasions, and I'm really bad about planning ahead, so this has been absolutely WONDERFUL--I print out the shopping list, take it to the store, and get what I need. Then on nights when I have time to cook, I pull out the recipe list and decide what sounds good, and away we go! I don't always make everything on the list, and I substitute some things, but just knowing that I have the ingredients on hand and I don't have to think about what to make for dinner makes the job so much easier (and more fun) for me.

Also, most of the meals are designed to be ready in 40 minutes or less, from start to finish.

Even DH, whose culinary expertise only extended to opening a jar of pasta sauce, has taken an interest in cooking, and one night he actually told me to go put my feet up and took the recipe and made dinner. I was shocked!

So anyway, just thought I'd pitch this--I really wish I'd known about it sooner.
