Anyone traveled here and remember something good they ate?

I'm planning a shower with an African Safari theme....
TIA!

Me! We went to Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar for our honeymoon!

As for the food - I hate to disappoint you but there's really not much great cultural food there. Mostly curries (not with Indian spices but with different ones). General European stuff, like chicken, etc. Zanzibar was under Arab occupation for a while, so it has lots of spices, it's called "Spice Island". But all the food is kinda not-descript. I had good food in a lodge in Kenya - but that was Italian food, because the lodge owner was Italian and he taught the chef a bunch of recipes!

There is this one restaurant in Nairobi (Kenya) which serves game meat. It's called Carnivore, and if you search for it you will see pictures of huge things of various types of grilled meat... but that's not exactly baby shower fare :)

So, I guess I'm not of much help, am I? I tried!

Citygirl thanks for the response. I did some research and came up with these recipes. Yes, I cheated and am using some Moroccan - to which my DH reminds me that Morocco is no where near the safari! oh well. Trying to keep it really tame so that no one gets overwhelmed with flavors they aren't used to. Thoughts?

APPS and MUNCHIES

Veggies with roasted red pepper dip
Olive tray
Animal crackers
Chai Tea
Sesame Candies
MAIN COURSE

Chicken Yassa (broiled fryer pieces, onions, olives, carrots)
Steak and Iro (Filet with onion soup sauce over mashed potatoes with Peas and Corn mixed in)
Moroccan Chicken and Lentils (sliced boneless chicken, room temp. salad-like, vinegar)
Moroccan-Spiced Roasted Vegetables (red, yellow, orange peppers, sweet potatoes, butternut squash)
White coconut bread (made with coconut milk, not flakes)
Tanzanian Pineapple Nut Salad (pineapple, cashews, coconut with cream/honey/banana sauce)
Minted Apricot Couscous
Coconut Rice with Peas and Carrots

We had some awesome food when we were on Zanzibar. One of my favourites was pilau rice with coconut curry sauce.

I think that's a great menu - not to overwhelming with different flavors and spices people aren't used to, but at the same time interesting and new. Hope the shower turns out great! :)
