I'm subscribing to the new thread...

My mom was helping me with the baby while I got some work done yesterday, and she put the baby down in my bed and slept with her for 3 hours! I'm hoping this is some kind of break through, and not just a fluke! It was so nice! I got a ton of work finished (I work 30 hrs/week from home) and even had time to go get my haircut. Keeping my fingers crossed for another good nap today!!

Hi Everyone - real quick post.

Mrs_barkley - thanks for keeping us going (and growing!) as a group! If you have a moment, can you fix Sydney's name in the birthdays list? Thanks.

jakedog Sydney is a non-talker too. She says "dah"! Her equivilent of Dad, dog, get, that, stop, doll, cup, Mom, (you get my drift). It's pretty much the only sound she makes. It's usually accompanied by pointing. It seems like she really understands a lot, but just doesn't talk.

Also, I'd love to hear any tips you or anyone else has for road tripping. Sounds like H did really well. We're planning a 6 hour trip in September and I'm already dreading it. Sydney barely tolerates the 90 minute trip to my parents'. We did a 3 hour trip in May and that was rough. We planned it around nap time - but now that she's only napping once a day, I'm not sure what we'll do. The girl does not like to sit still!

naps As I mentioned before, Sydney is now taking one nap. It happed kind of abruptly b/c she transitioned at daycare to the 12-18 month room where they only take one nap. She adjusted great there. At home the first weekend, we just couldn't keep her awake. (I think we're more boring!) So she took two naps, but this past weekend she was only needing the one. Let me just say that I think it's pretty rough - ON ME! As Sal mentioned in the previous thread, it makes doing much outside of the house pretty hard! Sure I can run errands during the morning hours, but getting together with friends is darn near impossible. Our friends, 9none of whom have kids) are certainly not going to want to get together in the morning. Forget meeting for lunch! Nap time starts at around 12:30. Then after naptime and a snack we have a little time to do stuff, but then it's dinner and bedtime. Syd still goes to be pretty early - around 6:30-7, so dinner with friends is usually impossible too.

Sign language We started signing a little with her and she's just barely starting to pick it up. She does a modified version of "more" all the time now. She's starting to put a "mmmm" sound with it too, but just barely. Plus she does the sign for more anytime she wants anything, despite whether she has any to begin with. We'll figure it out. I just found out yesterday that one of her daycare teachers uses signs with the kids too, (it's not part of the curriculum, but she used them with kids she used to babysit), so we'll probably try to use them more now that we know they'll be reinforced there. My question for those who use videos, (signing or other types), how do you get your kids to sit and watch them? Sydney will glance at them, but then is off playing with something else.

Well, gotta get back to work! Love all the pictures everyone. Here are a few recent ones of my little HAM!

She's a daredevil - but still a klutz. :p Can't even begin to count all the "owies" in our house these days! :o

She loves "waterplay" at daycare. They snapped this picture for me.

YEA for a new thread!! Thanks MrsBarkley for keeping us going strong :D

talking Got another non-talker over here. Lots of things that sound like words, but they never seem to be used in context so I'm not quite willing to give him credit for them. It doesn't help that I keep listening for "real" words instead of "his" words

sign language I started this when DS turned one. I try to be pretty consistent using them throughout the day. I'm pretty sure he knows "milk" and "dog" and sometimes I think he knows "cat" "eat" "more" and "all done" Those are mainly the ones I sign. As for the video, I used to do it after his morning nap. He would be kinda cuddly and we would watch for about 15-20 min. before he had enough. Now, though, he's raring to go when he gets up, so it doesn't work. I've actually thought about putting his high chair in front of the TV and have him watch the video while he has breakfast.

road trips Carson is a vetern, although I don't quite know how we got there. My folks are about 6 hours away and we've visited several times. We usually start our trip close to his morning nap time so that he naps for the first two hours. Then we play a bit in the car for another hour and stop for lunch, get out and stretch for an hour. By this time he's getting sleepy again so we head out and he has his afternoon nap for two hours. The last hour is when it gets dicey since he's been cooped up for so long. A lot of times it's a bunch of "here's some cheese/water/etc." "here's your paci" "ooo, what's mommy/daddy doing" "peek a boo" "oh, Carson, don't cry" You get the drift. I certainly wouldn't want to do it often, but every once in a while is okay.

Hi everyone

Matheson's kinda a non talker too. He's very vocal but not very verbal if that makes sense. He makes just tons of noise. He can copy just about any noise we make at him but he is not interested in the words at all. And he is trying to hard to communicate. He can say momma and dadda and the other day he was saying cat, but he will say the word once or twice and then its just gone and he doesnt seem interested anymore. My mom said I was kinda that way. I didnt really talk till 18 months. I had a few words at 15 but thats its. The ped told us M should have 10 words by 18 months. I guess we will see.

Matheson climbed onto the footstool last night and decided he wanted to stand up. Had to put a stop to that one. Yesterday at my mothers house he tried to actually get a running start to get on her couch. He didnt make it but it was cute anyway :)

M seems to be going through a non eating stage. He is just not really interested in anything. Eat a few bites and thats it. He will eat applesauce of course and yogurt but any other food are just, bite, spit out. Oh he will eat cheese too. When he feeds himself he just SHOVES food into his mouth. He was eating pieces of cut up cheese the other day and had so many pieces in his mouth he could barely move it. But he didnt choke. :)

I guess thats about it for now

Loving the new thread

SlvrPhenx Bryelle is another cheese baby. For awhile she would eat ANYTHING but now she has become very picky. Cheese always gets her eating, though. I cut up cheese into little bits and she crams so many in her mouth I don't understand how she gets it down. She's a climber too. My grandmother (who used to babysit her when I was in school) has little foot stools by her coffee table. Bryelle would climb up them and sit on the table!!

Smanley..Congrats on being pregnant!!! How exciting!! I can't wait to do it all over again!

lisariv Bryelle's a clutz/daredevil too. Right now she has a semi black-eye from a stunt similar to your second picture!! She is so used to it that it barely phases her now. I think it hurts me more to see her hurt herself than it hurts her!! (if that makes sense.) That third picture of Sydney cracked me up!! She looks like she's saying "you wanna piece of me??" LOL

Ok..so Bryelle is starting to bite. Nothing horrendous yet, but she got my shoulder the other night and it HURT!! Any ideas to nip this now before it becomes a habit?

Biting - Ruby is not really a biter but she got me a good one today, on my left boob! I have a nice old mark there now. Ouch. We were playing and she just got a bit too excited.

Talking - Ruby is not a big talker. She is a chatterer, but doesn't have a big vocabulary yet. Her favorite word is cat, and I am not exaggerating if I tell you all that she says it 60 times a day! I'm looking forward to her getting a new word, that's for sure.

As well as calling ours cats 'cat', she will point to a picture in a magazine and call that a cat as well. Unfortunately not pictures of cats, pictures of celebrities!

She says Dad, Mum, Nan, Bub. Mum has also been a favorite of late, especially if she is upset or in trouble.

Napping - Ruby has 2 a day, down from 3. She cut the third one out about a month ago. She will sleep an hour at each nap on average, sometimes an hour and a half, and very rarely two hours. *Love* the two hour ones.

Congrats smanley!!!

Wah, I am jealous, I really want another baby, we have been trying 5 cycles now.

Here is a picture of Ruby from today.

Crazycaro I remember when Ruby was first born (yes..I lurked way back then..I feel almost stalkerish) It's amazing how big she has gotten. She has turned into quite the adorable young lady!! I too want a baby so bad...at least you are already trying. We are not quite there yet. (Although, Dh just started a new job( ie no insurance), and I don't start mine till September..and my BC script just ran out..a girl can hope can't she??)

Good mornign all.

Love all the pictures.

Josh is a biter also. Ouch. I hate to even ask for kisses anymore b/c he comes at me with his mouth wide open and I know all he wants to do is chomp down.
He had his wbv on Tuesday. He's 29 inches and 21 lbs 2 ozs.

He's not a talker either-more of a babbler. Paul taught him where his feet are. We ask him Josh where are your feet and he'll grab them. So cute but when I ask where his belly button is he grabs his feet.

Ugh road trips. We're driving to Maine in Sept. A 14 hour trip without a baby God help me. Not only that but we're going with the in laws double God help me.

Congrats Smanly happy and healthy nine months to you!
Who's next :)

Adorable pictures, everyone. :D

Talking:
Jackson's favorite word sounds a lot like sh-t. I SWORE to DH that I've never said the s-word in front of him (I'm more of an f-word person when I get mad) yet he points to everyone and everything and says "sh-t."

Jackson can say ma ma, da da, duck, good, and yum-yum. It's really cute, when he gets hungry, he crawls over to his chair, stands up next to it and just starts saying yum-yum and I know he's hungry!

Road Trips:
No road trips for us. We are such wimps but after listening to Jackson scream in the car for the last year, we've decided his car ride threshold is 30 minutes. :(

Gosh look at all these cute babies, and they are so big now.

that was fast hapa! glad you found us.

jki - for your really long road trips, maybe try driving during his sleep time, sucks for you guys but if you know he'll be asleep. Also giving him some toys that he hasn't been exposed to might help. Nikki figured out that she likes to write and got one of those traveling doodle pro and so far she loves it. we also have a CD that we've been playing to her when she was small that she will really calm down with, it's the disney lullabye album, it's instrumental, and she loves it. I think now that they are bigger they might like singing along to some songs, so you might try some wiggles cd, raffi, etc...

http://store1.yimg.com/I/playthingspastllc_1848_13730382

words - nikki is still not talking yet, but signs "more" and "all done" all the time.
will blow kiss to say good bye, and waves as well.

videos - baby einstein neighborhood animals, it's great when I have to get ready in the morning. some baby einsteins are hit and misses with nikki.

showers - anyone's DC showering yet? Since Nikki was diagnosed with UTI, we've been showering together. We don't have a bath mat yet so she's sliding around like crazy. Just wondering what everyone does for showers?

self feeding - anyone's baby self feeding either? Nikki loves dipping her spoon and feeding herself. we bought the baby bjorn plate and spoon set, the spoons are perfect for her, and the plate stays put if you put it over a table cloth?!?! the plate just looks like little doggy water bowls. I wish they sold the spoons separately.

Hello Mamas!

I joined at the tail-end of the volume 1 thread and I'm just now getting back to introduce myself and my DD. I was one of those dreadful WC lurkers who just felt a little weird joining a wedding message board since I'm clearly not a "new"ly wed. When I saw CC was open for business I thought it was as good a time as any to jump in with both feet. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your babes, if you'll have me.

My DD: Tatum will be 11 months old on Sunday. She is a Drama Queen! Every time we see our pediatrician she says,"Your next baby is going to be so easy" (snicker, snarf). From her lips to God's ears! Actually, she's a very sweet little girl, who happens to be very high maintainance. We'll leave it at that. :D

Talking: Just Mama, Dada and duh for duck. Other than that, lots and lots of babble.

Road Trips: Tatum hates her car seat. She also will NOT sleep in the car...weird, I know. We thought things would get significantly better when we switched from the infant seat to the convertible seat, but alas, they have not. My family lives four hours away. We've made this trip several times and each time it's a Life Altering Experience. Every time we get home, DH and I swear we will not do it again until Tatum is "older". A couple of months later we pack up the car and head out again, seemingly oblivious to the previous road trips. We're currently hoping that going from rear-facing to forward-facing will change our lives...fingers crossed.

Biting: Not biting, but I'm sure it's only because it hasn't occurred to her to do it. Of course I've probably just jinxed myself.

Dana OMG we are suddenly right there with you with teething. Dylan had 102 yesterday and he was just crying and crying until 1am which is SO unlike him. He was biting on everything he could and that was WITH tylenol. poor baby finally wore himself out and slept until 6.

Caro, Lisa and Jen Adorable pics!!

Self feeding Our ped told us to start trying but Dylan just waves the spoon around. Eventually he'll get the idea

Hapa good to see you! I can only imagine dylan just swatting away glasses as we tried to put them on. Good luck - hope you can get a pic of him wearing them!

jki I'm more of an f-word person when I get mad this whole thing just cracked me up

talking Dylan is just saying doh doh doh. he said da da once but we think it was a fluke. he was looking right at DH though

Weaning Dylan was officially done nursing on Wednesday. It was sad but I was ready. Now I feel guilty though because I could probably have comforted him better during this teething spell with nursing. :( Oh well, he still has a lot of teeth to come in and I was not going to nurse him forever.

Welcome Orange!

Jakedog-good tips on the road trip. We plan on leaving at night so hopefully he'll sleep through most of the night. I think I'll take genndan100502 suggestion and buy some new toys for the trip. Josh doesn't have a blankie maybe I can get him a lovey to get used to before the trip. What really stinks about the trip is traveling with mil in the back seat with us. Last time we drove with them Josh was freaking out and she suggested taking him out for a bit. Nice huh

Sal-aw poor Dylan I hope he's feeling better. Poor little guy.

I am so dreading the molars after hearing how awful they can be.

Josh isn't self feeding yet, he mainly plays with the spoon. I think I'll have to buy one of those bowls and spoons that attaches to the highchair tray.

Well I'd better shower so Josh and I can head off to the grocery store where he can leave a trail of ritz crackers everywhere we go. He likes to take a cracker in each hand, hang his hands over the cart then just drop them.

Me: Donna, 31
DH: Jason, 32
Married: 4-26-03
Baby's name: Madeline Rhea (Maddie)
Date of birth: 6-26-04
Time of birth: 11:49am
Weight: 6lbs, 12oz Length: 20.5in

Talking Maddie doesn't have a lot of real words either. She says mama and dada, but I'm not convinced that she's always talking to us. She says "dah" and "kee" for dog and kitty. And she's gotten really good at saying bye-bye and waving. She "talks" all the time though, if we only knew what she was saying.

Road Trips We've taken several. We've gone to my parents (5 hrs) several times, DH's parents (4 hrs), and we just got back from our vacation in Destin, FL (12 hrs). We split the Destin trip into 2 days each way though. Maddie handles them pretty well. We try to schedule them at nap times, so she sleeps for a couple of hours. She's OK playing for about an hour by herself, then we stop for lunch or to play for about an hour. I usually ride the second half of the trip in the back seat with her so that we can play. We might not have to do that now that we've got her turned around forward though.

Naps Maddie still takes 2 -- usually an hour and a half each.

Biting Another biter here! She bites my shoulder all the time when I'm holding her, and one time she bit her 5 year old cousin on the cheek! That one was bad. It even left a bruise. It was probably worse because the 5 year old didn't know how to get her off. I felt aweful!

As I mentioned earlier, we just got back from a week at the beach. I was worried that Maddie would try to eat the sand since she is always putting dirt, leaves, whatever in her mouth. Surprisingly, she didn't. She liked playing in the sand and LOVED swimming in the pool. The ocean was OK, but we couldn't really get in since the waves were so rough. We sat her on the shore and let it splash up on her. She liked that too except when one wave got her in the face.

We had Maddie's b-day party last weekend. It was a lot of fun, but it was HOT!! Next year it's definitely going to be INSIDE! I'll try to post pictures of that and our trip to the beach sometime next week.

Road Trips We go out of town pretty much every weekend in the summer (it's too dang hot here!). Our trip is about 2.5 hours each way, so it's not too bad. I usually ride in the back seat with her and we play with toys, sing, eat puffs... I actually once tried "hovering" over her carseat to nurse her to see if I could get her to fall asleep...no luck! :)

I think we're going to hang around town this weekend though...I'm just not quite in the mood to mess with the car trip.

Is anyone planning on switching the car seats to forward facing soon? I'm thinking we'll wait as long as we can, but I wonder if she'll enjoy car rides more then.

Forward Facing Car Seat:
:o We turned at 10 months (I think he was 23/24 lbs. and had been crawling for 3 months). Jackson hated being rear facing and the constant screaming was draining. DH and I decided that the risks of having him forward facing were lower than the risk of me getting into a car accident because of all the screaming, stress and trying to turn around and console him. Our friend, who is a pediatrician, said that upper body strength is important when turning your child around and that Jackson was the size and had the upper body strength of a much older child.

Anyhow, after we turned him around, he was MUCH, much happier. Had he not been, I think I would have returned to rear facing. Especially after reading some of the links in the car seat thread!!

Self Feeding:
Jackson WANTS to have control of the spoon, but I just can't deal with the mess. I let him play with a spoon and we've spoon fed him TOGETHER - but the few times I've let him have control end up being a disaster.

Burnt Orange: Welcome!

jakedog:
I know - I think I'll be the first repeat offender. I'll be sure to post pics! :)

I never know where to post anymore. Its good to hear from everyone and I am SO glad we're all over here. I am over the WC! Chloe just had her 1st bday part in San Diego and it was a blast. She had so much fun and loves being the center of attention. We just got home from her 12month WBV and she's 21lbs and 31in. Tall and thin!

Forward facing car seat for the 5months of her life she screamed in the car seat. Total nightmare. Then she got over it thank god! We switched her to forward last week and she loves it.

Self feeding haven't tried it yet and I am afraid of the mess.

Naps we are still on 2 and I am going to hold out as long as I possibly can.

Talking Chloe babbles alot but the only words she can say is "mama" and "dada".

Ok anyone else dealing with constant throwing? sippy cups toys bottle my cell phone anything Lewis can get his hands on gets tossed it drives me a little nutty.

ME!! Today's trip to the grocery store was trying (to say the least.) Little old ladies were coming up behind me to give me things Bryelle had secretly chucked from the cart. The stuff wasn't even up front with her. AND, I still can't find my cell phone. For the last 3 or 4 days it has been lost in the back of DH's car where she threw it (it's dead too, which makes the hunt much more complicated.) I am pretty sure the window was up..I really hope it's in some crevice of his car..LOL

JAKEDOG Your self serve comment cracked me up. Bryelle just started this!! I haven't weaned yet (but need to VERY soon) and I'm afraid she is going to assault me to get to them. DH thinks it's cute. He says "see, that's daddy's girl"

Jen1099 You have a trail of Ritz, we have a trail of chewed up grapes. If DH needs to go to a different part of the store, he can always follow the grape trail to find us!! I had to start carrying a separate ziplock bag to clean up so the store employees didn't hate me!!

JKI She is so beautiful!!! congratulations!!! WOW! one minute pushing... that is amazing! I was very happy with just 30 minutes of pushing I couldn't imagine only one!

Brady still is not talking but will only say mama over and over again. He does say dadda but not as much. He has started to shake his head no but I think he thinks it is just funny and not something to communicate. He thinks it is very funny to put food in my mouth and it is really funny to toss food to the dog. tonight he discovered that he can take food out of his mouth and toss it to the dog too! We started to work on self-feeding last night and it worked for a bit, but then he just wants to get his hands in his bowl or fling the food around iwth his spoon.

We have been trying regular foods and it honestly depends on the way the wind is blowing if he likes it or not.

His crib has 3 levels before it is at its lowest point... we moved it all the way down last night. I can't believe how fast he is growing. He now insists on going outside and getting the hose. he even tries to open the back door to get out and get the hose! He just loves playing in the water. He is going to bed much easier now, hopefully, this will continue. I am trying a little to wean him from the boobie. He takes it to relax and then will go to his bed and go to sleep on his own so he doesn't need it to fall asleep anymore. But he is still waking up a few times a night and needs to be cuddled before going back to bed. I would really like to see him back to STTN!! Last night he freaked out on me... he woke up at 9:30 and would not stop crying, he wouldn't take the boobie and just kept crying hysterically. I finally took him out of his room and he relaxed immediately. I don't know if it was his teeth and he needed comfort or he had a bad dream but I hate seeing him like that! :(

This morning he wanted to eat breakfast earlier than usual so he went to his highchair smacking his lips and tried to climb into the chair! It was too cute! He is such a climber! He climbs onto the couch and then tries to climb out onto the console table! He also loves to use the dog as his personal speed bump and mow right over him~ poor doggie!

Last week, he was walking around the house and he was tired getting ready for bed. He is all drunk baby when tired and cannot keep his balance at all! So, he took a face dive into the ledge and got a bloody nose and mouth. After a few days I noticed that a small part of his front tooth is chipped off!! He is fine but shiesh! give your mama a heart attack!

ok, done taking up all your space! I just don't have much time to post but I do check in regularly!

Ha Josh also loves to feed us but only when it's something he doesn't love. He never gives us his waffles or pancakes but has no problem trying to feed us his veggies.
Yesterday I couldn't get him to eat anything. I made him pasta and broccoli and wouldn't eat it, tried a veggie burger nothing. So finally I had to give him baby food. I couldn't believe he didn't wake up in the middle of the night wanting to eat.

Josh is also a little climber, the other day he climbed halfway on the end table from the couch. He also climbed up the set of stairs-with me behind him. I'm trying to teach him how to go down safely.

Josh also shakes his head no but I think he means no when he does it. He does it when he doesn't want to eat anymore or when we tell him no(which is getting to be more often than not)

Dh and I could have sworn he said bird the other day but havent' heard it since. Still babbling but he knows what things are. He's obessed with our belly buttons-it's so funny. I say Josh where's daddy's belly button and he'll take off across the room to go lift his shirt and stick his finger in. So funny.

monique Oh boy a bloody nose-I know those days are just around the corner for us b/c Josh has no fear and I know I'll be a mess the first time it happens.

Congrats Jk ! She is a doll. Oh and what an awesome labor!

Monique- I hear ya on being picky, one day my ds will gobble something up the next day he'll have nothing to do with it.

Jen- My son is a little monkey too, he loves the steps and uses his toys as steps to climb onto the coffee table. Gives me a heart attack everytime.

Well Isaacs party was on Sat. It went really well overall. Isaac loved his cake and *hopefully* I will figure out how to post pics. The only big problem we had was the cake, when I went to pick it up it was horrible, icing was falling off and the colors were wrong, the writing was crooked. Luckily they had time to make me a whole new cake.

Yay! JKI! Congrats!!! I can't wait to hear all the details. So glad second time around was easier. Hopefully our next baby has a smaller head. :) She's beautiful and look at all that hair! How does Jackson like his baby sister so far?

Genndan and Danab--Hey...I'm selling some luau stuff from jack's bday party to a girl in Pasadena (through Craigslist). I decided to drive out there and bring the stuff to her. So I'm making an afternoon of it and going to the Kidspace museum. Have you been there? Jack's not walking yet, but do you think he'd still have fun? We'll probably be there around noonish, so if you're interested in meeting up at all (I know it's really late notice), we'd love to see you! You can send me an email at: haggenmillerville@yahoo.com.

Be back later!

Hi everyone

Congrats JKI :)
isaacsmommy love the cake pictures :) I wish M would have dug in like that but he could have cared less

Matheson learned a while ago that he can lean over his highchair at my mother's and spit his food out and the dog will come clean it up. Of course he thinks its the funniest thing around.

I know it was a few days ago but we turned M's carseat around a few weeks after he turned one. My mom turned hers the week before his bday because she was cleaning out the truck. We would have kept ours rear facing longer but it looked like it had shifted some so we just turned it when I unbuckled it and all

M is SUCH a picky eater now. I just dont know what to do about it.

Last night I turned my back and Matheson climbed onthe footstool and stood up. He seemed kinda proud of himself. I think he might have fallen out of our bed this morning. He knows how to slid backwards on his belly to get down, but I was in the shower, had the monitor and all, didnt hear a thing then THUMP. So I ran into the bedroom and he was just walking towards the bathroom, not crying or anything so it must not have hurt :)

Guess thats all

hapa i wish i would've seen your post earlier, we've been meaning to check out kidspace. i'm so loving craigslist right now, i just got a great deal on a wooden swingset.

has anyone else's baby started screaming? last week noa started screaming all freakin day long, i know her molars are coming in and last week it was obvious that the screaming was due to that, she was also holding her jaw, waking up early from naps, etc. this week it doesn't seem that her teeth are hurting her so much, but she's still screaming all the time, she's driving us all insane. i'm wondering if this is just a developmental thing, discovering what she can do with her voice or if she's just gonna be one of those kids. today my brother said "looks like we'll be seeing you on nanny 911"

So, Brady woke up 6 times last night!!! He usually just wakes up to be comforted and will go back to sleep after being rocked with a paci or the boobie. I told DH that for the next few nights he is going to have to sleep with ear plugs because we need to work on sleep training! The thing is, I will rock and soothe him for a bit before going to bed and then he puts himself to sleep! So, I don't know why he is waking so much. He is really teething but 6 times in 10 hours is just too much even for a teether!

Hapa Jack is SO SO SO cute in his glasses!!! Just so adorable!

Dana Dylan is such a screamer when he is excited. He does it a little too often in restaurants and luckily people seem to laugh. Sorry about the teething - it's the worst!!

Luckiest Adorable pics!!! That bear cake is great. Leah looks so cute eating the mini one!

isaacsmommy I love that first cake picture. His eyes are so big and sweet. What a cutie

Monique sorry about Brady's face dive. it's the worst when stuff like that happens :(

Jakedog I am sure thats a good way to teach him not to do something-run get the camera LOL we do the same thing. It is so hard not to some times when they are just so funny and cute!

Dylan babbles SO much now. He has says DaDa right to DH and no one else so I am officially considering that his first word. Nothing else makes any sense but it is fun to listen to. His teething is still going on but not so bad overnight so I don't know what the situation is. I think I may finally start brushing his teeth tonight so maybe I will be able to get a peek in his mouth then.
I don't really have great pics from his first birthday so I will post of his first haircut, a before and after because he was too funny throughout the whole thing. Loved it!

sal-Dylan's haircut is soooo cute! He's such a little man now. I figure Jack will have enough hair for an official cut some time around his 2nd birthday.

dana and genndan- Kidspace was fun. I had forgotten how great Pasadena is. I'll have to go again soon and check out the Huntington. I'm not sure if Nikki and Noa are walking yet, but I would wait to go to Kidspace until they are. Jack had fun climbing on a bunch of their stuff (we stayed about 2 hours including lunch), but he's just a crawler and kept trying to touch the hot lights they had on the ground and he wanted to crawl on the hot ground outside. Ouch!

luckiesgirl Great bear cakse! How did you get the smaller cakes to stand up like that? And great pics. Leah is just too cute for words!

phenway You and your boys look great! I'm so glad you made it over here. There must be cobwebs on our old thread at WC. I've been lurking on your website keeping up to date on everything. Those boys are just thriving...must be all the love you give them!

As most of you know, I am pregnant again and due on November 2-3. I am presently 24 weeks. I went into the hospital Wednesday night (7/13) complaining of lower back pain and was not keeping anything down. They checked and discovered my cervix was dilating so I was admitted. I am on complete bedrest until further notice. I am trying to keep the baby in as long as possible. We are trying to get to at least 26 weeks but we are hoping for 28 since that was when Gina was born. I have been given two steroid shots to help the baby’s lungs mature.

They did an ultrasound Wednesday night and the baby looked fine, but its little legs were tightly clamped shut lol. The next ultrasound will probably be sometime Monday so we will try to find out the sex then.

Please keep us in your thoughts & prayers and we will try to keep you updated on my condition.

Thanks!

Love all the pics. I wish I could have found a crown for M's bday. We had a pin for him but I forgot to put it on him.

I am the worst mother in the world. I lost my little boy the other day, IN MY OWN HOUSE!!! I have the hall cleaned out for M to play in and I keep the doors shut. Well I apparently didnt shut one all the way. I was in the living room and I noticed M was awful quiet so I got up and looked down then hall and he wasnt there. So I looked back in the living room and he wasnt there either. I have never felt so sick in my entire life. I opened the door to one of the rooms and he was sitting in the floor playing. He had come into the room and shut the door behind himself. UGH I wanted to just burst into tears. It wasnt like he could have gone anywhere those because the front door is in the living room. He had to be in one of the room but I felt so sick and like the worst mother.

I called DH after this to get some sympathy and he laughed at me. Stupid male

ok enough for now

Bye ladies and babies

Dylan has started waving! It is so cute, he flaps his hand at everything. Now we are trying to teach him to clap. But he just grabs my hands and claps them together. And he has been saying Dada for a few weeks and now says Mama. it is the SWEETEST sound. And his laugh gets better every day. this great belly laugh. I am so happy he finally waved, I feel like most other babies waved and clapped much earlier. MrsBarkley -Oh my. I'll be thinking of you guys-take it easy. I can only imagine how hard bed rest must be with a toddler.

Happy Belated Birthday to Thomas, Alexander, Elliot and Dylan

Sal Isn't it so cute when they wave. The other day I was putting groceries in the car and Josh was still in the cart and I caught him waving to a car with 4 ladies in it. So cute.
Great haircut pictures-I'm so impressed with how laid back he was.

SlvrPhenx Don't be so hard on yourself. We've all done something where we've kicked our selves afterwards. They certainly are quick huh.

hapahaole Jack is so cute with his glasses. I can only imagine how tough it is to keep them on him.
Those pictures are great-what is he riding on in the last picture? What ever it is looks like he loves it.

luckiestgirl I'm also so impressed with your stand up cakes. Can't wait to see the train cake. Happy b-day to your two other children.

Well I leave for my girls weekend on Thursday night. I'm excited but I'm going to miss them terribly but you know what it will be nice sleeping past 7 and just relaxing.
Josh is doing great. His personality is totally changing. He's more sociable while we're out and about. At home he laughs and laughs. He's been a daddy's boy lately though. Hmph. Oh well. I signed Josh and Paul up for the swim class at the YMCA. Only bad thing is it's at 6:30, if it ends up being to much for him I'll just switch and take him during the day. I just thought it would be nice for the two of them to do something together. (and I'd have some me time :)

Mrsbarkley we will pray for you and baby.

Hapahaole Jack is so cute in his glasses! Is his vision ok in the hyperopic eye or will he need any patching or atropine?

Sal03 I love the haircut pics! The mini-smock is so cute. I had to cut Simon's myself over a couple of days and in his sleep since I couldn't find any place to take him!

Moms of babies with hats in pics I am so impressed. Simon won't tolerate any hat of any kind. Even in the dead of winter he would pull off his hat and toss it. I can't get any pics of him in a hat and his hat collection is gathering dust. I wanted to get him somekind of birthday crown but decided against it since it would just end up on the floor anyways. How do you get your baby to keep a hat on?

Simon is still crawling. He is 13 1/2 mos old and will stand for up to 10 sec or so but isn't walking at all. He just doesn't want to let go!

He is talking quite a bit though. I don't count anything he just parrots back, I only count words he uses spontaneously, consistently, and in the right context. His vocabulary consists of:

Mama
Dad
Booo (I want to nurse!)
Jooo (Joules, our dog)
Ott (water)
Baawh (ball)
Up (pick me up)
Appo jchoo (juice)
Leche (milk)
Buh (book)
Chih-ch (chicken, as meat, not as the cute little farm animal)
Buh buh (bye bye)
Daw (dog)
pooo (poop, says when he has gone poop)
Hi
Ah-choo (after we sneeze)
Maa (fan) I don't know how he came up with it but it is what he says to each ceiling and floor fan.

That is all he says for now, I would like to get more Spanish in there. He also waves with "Hi" and "buh buh" and does the sign for "milk" when he says or hears "leche".

He also has become aware of his farts. This morning he passed gas and then followed it with "raspberries" noises. He has done this a few times already and DH and I just laughed so hard when he did it this morning because he looked so happy when he was doing it. :)

Rositabean Wow, Simon has quite a vocabulary. That's so funny about the fart noise. Jack does the raspberry noise when he rides on his tricycle and when he hears motorcycles go by. When are you moving to town?

Glasses Thanks for all the compliments on the glasses. I sure do wonder what this kid will look like when he gets older. Though having a big round bald head and glasses works for a 1 year old, let's hope he doesn't really transform into George Costanza. :D We're going to see the pediatric opthomologist on Friday so hopefully we'll have a better idea about what's going on. Since he got the glasses his bad eye (+4 prescription) has become more lazy when he takes his glasses off than it ever was before. I think, like Rositabean said, another treatment may be to patch his good eye so he only uses the bad eye. My friend had this done for 6 weeks when she was in middle school...can you imagine?! I hope by doing all this early treatment we're able to fix his eye so he may not have to wear glasses in the future. He's actually been pretty good about wearing them, though I do find him trying to chew on the nose rest part and the earpieces.

Jen1098

Sounds like you got some great presents this week...wave, mama, belly laughing! Love it all. It's funny, jack's "dada" has many versions--DA DA, da DA, DA da, DAAAAA, da da da da. Mostly his voice is pretty high pitched. But with mama, his voice is really low. So cute!

Brady has started walking and he is now going everywhere!!! He tries to climb into and out of the bathtub, onto the couch, up the dresser, over the baby gate, and any other place he can find!

This morning he took his spoon and started feeding himself his yogurt! He would put the spoon into the bowl, dip it in the yogurt and then put it in his mouth!

He has found a way to go around all our baby proofing too! He will go and open the cupboards as far as he can and then squeeze his arm in the opening and find something to pull out! The other day I found him in the bathroom where he figured out how to open the toilet lid and there he was splashing in the bowl! I quickly put him in the sink and washed him a few times with soap!! sometimes, I just don't know what to do with that boy!

Mrs. Barkley My prayers are all with you and your family. Keep us updated.

I'm loving all the pictures. I'm jealous of all those first haircut pics. We're a long way from needing that. I don't have much time. I just wanted to drop off some pics of my own.

Hi everyone

Thank you for the sympathes on Matheson hiding in the house. I think it upset be so much because it was actually in the house. But better the house than the mall right, even though Im sure that day will come

There are babies popping out all over DH's family. Our SIL is set to be induced the week of the 8th. One of his cousins his pg with twins due in November and another cousin just found out she was pg. babies babies babies.

I dont know if I mentioned M can now get on and off his little scooter thing. He stood on it the other day. I might have a trick rider on my hands.

Oh and he dances. Today he started dancing down low. On Noggin they have the shake o ramma song and he was dancing low like the kids do to that song. Its so cute.

Matheson used to laugh so big when he farted and its sooooo hard not to laugh with him. Then he started laughing when we would say excuse me. But hes kinda grown out of it now. We just tried really hard not to laugh at him when he farted and he eventually stopped laughing :)

Bye for now

mrs. b you're in my thoughts as well, hope your babe stays put as long as possible.

love all the pictures. i wish i could post some of my own, but i haven't unloaded my cameras in so long, i don't know where to start.

hmm, maybe i should take noa for a professional haircut, i've been cutting it myself and dh hates it.

noa took her first steps today, i don't think she'll be full on walking for a while though.

noa's been a major screamer lately, i have to remember that she has teeth coming in, at least 3 molars and eye teeth  i really hope that this isn't her new personality. i ran out to buy just a few things today and she was throwing major tantrums all over the place. i don't even know how to react when she's this age, ignore her? baby her? tell her 'no'? luckiestgirl you have 5 kids and watch other kids, how do you not lose your mind with all this screaming?
i guess i'm also irritable because dh broke his ankle 2 wks ago and isn't able to help at all, he can't even carry her. i used to complain that he didn't help enough and now i'm struggling without his help. i have so much respect for single mothers, i could never do it. sorry to be such a whiner

luckiestgirl Poor Leah it's so hard when they're hurting and there is only so much we can do. Funny story about the owww though. Cute.

Dana -I have no advice to give on the screaming, I'll be interested in hearing luckiest's advice also. Luckily when Josh and I go shopping I keep an endless supply of snacks. I know I'm setting myself up for a meltdown down the road when I don't have any or try to break that habit but I'll deal with it when we get there.
That stinks your dh broke his ankle. I know how do single moms do it, when dh goes on business trips it can be so hard and tiring.

So diaper changes on getting harder and harder. It's such a pita to change him. It's so fustrating! I'm running out of things to give him to hold to distract him. It's so fustrating. He rolls, twists, cries you'd thinking I was pinching him.
I'd better go get him now, he was rubbing his eyes like crazy so I put him down but I bet he's up there standing in his crib.

eta-RaynJay I love the pictures of Maddie-she's getting so big. THe beach picture is beautiful!

oh we are right there with the screamers teethers. have not slept in two nights. and there is only ONE molar popping through. WHY can't this poor baby ever get a few at once to get them out of the way?

Dylan screamed his way through a paint store yesterday. His are happy screams though so at least everyone laughs. we are trying not to laugh when he does it because it is a but much.

Jen I love the one of Josh standing over his daddy's shoulder. the look on his face is SO CUTE. And you know what I want to do with his cheeks in the last one

raynjay the family shot is so nice!

Celia such a little man! Looks like Milo behaved as well as Dylan did. How cute are they in their little smocks. We were laughing the whole time

jki not sure if you are reading along but hope the new family of four is hanging in there!

mrs. b still thinking of you and hoping your little one stays put

jki

RayNJay - I love the pictures as well! The family shot is fantastic.

Sal - I am reading along - I just can't post often as I usually have a baby in one arm, mouse in the other hand and Jackson trying to crawl up my leg! ;) I love Dylan's new 'do. He looks so adorable! Such a little man.

Jen1098: I am so with you on the "endless supply of snacks" - I don't know what I'd do without the snack tray on my stroller!! Has anyone tried the Snack Trap? We have those as well, but Jackson loves to just empty them... I'm sure he thinks it's a toy.

Diaper changes have been a disaster here for MONTHS now. For a while, Jackson was content with me singing to him but that's not working anymore. Oh - another thing that he liked was to get sippy cup of water while I changed his diaper.

We have that same red car! Jackson LOVES LOVES LOVES it. In fact, I use that thing now more than the stroller!

hapahaole - a little late chiming in, but Jack does look adorable in his glasses! So cute.

We have the same tricycle - but Jackson doesn't seem to get the pedaling or steering concept, so we're going to wait until he's a little older.

mrs_barkley- thinking of you.....

Celia - Adorable haircut!

Rositabean- What an extensive vocabulary Simon has! That's awesome.

--------------------

Update - Anyhow, things are crazier than I thought with two! Cassidy is a very, very 'easy' baby (especially compared to Jackson!) but we are totally struggling to function. She sleeps a ton, falls asleep on her own, loves her swing and bouncy chair, can hang out by herself, etc. With Jackson, he had to be held constantly - we couldn't even SIT down. He had to be rocked to sleep... and it took FOREVER. We ate meals for MONTHS with Jackson in the Bjorn and a plate on top of his head... while STANDING. Jackson would only tolerate the swing/bouncy chair for like 5 minutes and then he would crank.... imagine if my first baby had been easy and this second baby was like Jackson?!

'They' (whoever they are) say toddlers Jackson's age should have no trouble adjusting to a sibling.... well, Jackson is clearly jealous! He sees me nursing and will burst into tears for no reason. He generally falls a lot, picks himself back up and keeps walking... well, now, every fall generates massive hysterics! He's started playing with things he KNOWS he's not supposed to - fireplace, TV, etc. - and I think it's to get attention. If DH and I are hovering over the baby, he will throw books at us and cry until someone pays attention to him.

I read that younger kids tend to act out towards their sibling, whereas older kids tend to act out towards the parents. When Jackson doesn't think we're watching, he totally MAULS the baby. When we're watching, he is gentle. He's rough to begin with and I don't think he knows better.... but I'm always afraid of giving him too much or too little credit. He's scratched her legs, tried to pull her umbilical cord off (which I now think is infected), he throws toys at her....

Honestly, I don't know what I'm going to do when DH goes back to work. I've been trying to hire a nanny for 2 mornings per week and that's not going well!

hi everyone,

I finally have time to post instead of just lurk. I wish we all can have a big playdate with all of our babies some day.

first off mrs. b - sending prayers your way, hope everything is going well.

luckiestgirl - those bear cakes are adorable, I'm so glad Leah and your family had a great time. and good luck with the other birthdays.

sal03 - look at dylan getting his hair cut, my goodness he's such a good boy.

ganache - welcome!

phen - look how big your boys have grown, they are so adorable with their monogramed outfits.

cohl - happy belated birthday to bryelle!

dana b - where are you going to get noa's haircut? we went to kids kuts and nikki was fine, they gave us half off since it was her first hair cut, they only cut the back and the front, and gave us a locket of her hair and a certificate. It was cute, I think you have to tell them that it is her first haircut though. I'll post pics later. the hair lady did give us some advice not to use baby shampoo anymore and that nikki has a double colic which means she's going to be stubborn.

stars - your dylan looks so cute with his crown and bib, like a little prince.

hapa - nikki is walking, and now we're considering getting a membership for kidspace since it's nearby, she just wants to be out all the time now. I still love jack's monkey shoes, and glad he's wearing them.

bluhimmy - any new pics of hunter?

slvphenx - sorry about the scare, but you are definitely not a bad mommy.

stumbles - how are you and tahlia doing? congrats on the walking!

jen1098 - nikki loves eating rocks too. our daycare has a big yard for them to play and when I pick her up she always has a bunch of sand all over her. I'm surprised you still have the cover on your highchair, since nikki has been feeding herself, we just leave it off now, since it's a mess every single day.

rositabean - very impressed with the vocabulary as well. Nikki has a couple of words, but they all sound like Da to me.

lisa&jason - congrats on your new job. good luck!

celia - omg, look what a difference the haircut made. milo looked like he went from a 1 year old to a 2 year old, he looks so debonaire. did you have a baby einstein birthday theme? nikki loves her baby einstein neighborhood animals.

monique - babies sure love water play. nikki does the same thing if we don't close our bathroom doors. congrats on the walking.

raynjay - love the pics of maddie!!! the family picture is awesome!

jki - wow, jackson is really not adjusting to the new baby, my older brother and I are a year apart, I'm not sure what my mom did, but we grew up pretty close until we both went off to college.

here's our hair cut pics back on June 25th, we didn't really need a hair cut, but wanted the back to be straight.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/genndan100502/d131.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/genndan100502/d166.jpg

oh btw, we're missing the carebear (birthday bear) in the pic, I haven't been able to find this in our local stores and it's nikki's favorite. Toys r us and target always has the different carebear, I tried our carlton cards and they said they didn't have it either. I tried giving her sunshine bear and Nikki didn't like it. I'll probably just have to go through ebay, but didn't want to go through that route if possible.

here's my daughter Nikki and god daughter Elle (2 weeks apart) they're always happy to see each other and everyone still asks if they're twins??!?. (nikki needs another hair cut)

celia & Sal- love the new do's. I am trying to grow Chloe's bangs out so I wont have to deal with cutting them anymore. She HATES it.
RayNJay I love your family pic. I want to have a professional one of our family done so bad but its hard to fing the time and $$$.
Jen1098 he is adorable and so good about wearing a hat. Chloe just rips them off.
jki I am so glad Cassidy is being so good and I hope Jackson grows out of this soon. Please keep us posted on how you are.

temper tantrums I think we are starting these too. Diaper changes are a complete nightmare but I mainly ignore her for now. Thanks luckiest for the post. I will have to remember all of that. ;) Other than this, Chloe is an angel. This is def. my favorite age so far. She is just so cute and curious and full of life. Here is a pic of her walking from her 1st bday.

I never do things like this but major prayers needed for a great friend of ours who is supposed to be married in 2 months. I refuse to speak in terms that the wedding may be off. I mean DH just bought his plane ticket for the bachelor party and is a groomsman.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!! Bryelle had a pretty low-key fun birthday. Just visited her great grandmom. Hopefully her party this Saturday will be equally low-key, but somehow I doubt it.

OK..SOs. I hope I don't miss anyone.

Jen1098 Josh is such a little cutie!! I can totally relate to the pic of him looking over his daddy's shoulder while he's eating. I wonder if I will ever get to finish an entire meal by myself again! LOL

RaynJay Maddie is such a cutie!! Look at those big eyes!! You have an adorable family!

SlvrPhenxI have a 17 month old who thinks farts are the funniest thing too! First he says "whass dat??" and then he cracks up. Must be a male thing. :)

jkiHope things aren't so crazy for too long. I have the greatest respect with you because after days like today I can barely handle the one. :)

genndan100502 Ok..I had to comment on the pic of Nikki and Elle. Bryelle's hair looks alot like Nikki's. It is real long on top and so short on the sides (with one part right in the lower back that is long..I call it her baby mullet :D ) We pull the long part up just like you did in that pic!! How cute that the babies love each other so much!! Bryelle and her cousin see who can yank more hair out of the other's head

AMC Chloe looks gorgeous in that pic!! Like a little princess!! I love that dress.

Sal03 I am so sorry about your friend!! I will definately keep her and her fh in my prayers!

NicoleWisconsin Welcome!! Our babies share the same birthday! Happy belated birthday to Blake.

Phew..I think I got everybody! Add me to the list of screaming babies! I am not sure what was wrong with Bryelle today, but as soon as daddy got home I said "have fun!' and poured myself a glass of wine! I hope tomorrow is better.

Sal -How scary for your friend and her family. I will keep her in my thoughts. Keep us posted.

jki Oh just reading your post makes me tired. I'm sorry things are rough right now. I guess the good thing is that Cassidy is such an easy baby for you. I wish we all lived near you so we could come help you out. Good luck finding a nanny.

luckiestgirl -Good advice on the tantrums. Josh is good about staying in the cart when it's just him and I but I've noticed when someone else is with us he insists on being held and once he's out of the cart there's no going back. I'm determined not to give in when he's older b/c you're right they are smart and learn quickly what works.

genndan100502 I love the hugging pictures. That is just so cute. I love her dimples so sweet. That's a good point about the cover for the high chair, I had never thought of taking it off b/c lord knows half his food ends up in the chair and on the floor.

AMC I love that dress-she's so precious. Josh is pretty good with his hat but it takes about five trys to get it to stay on.

Nicole -Welcome!

Cohl but as soon as daddy got home I said "have fun!' and poured myself a glass of wine! I hope tomorrow is better.
HA HA-I've had days like that!

Well I should be packing b/c I leave tonight for Florida. Last night we had swim class for Josh at the YMCA. I was not impressed at all with the teacher-she wasn't every engaging and pretty much sucked. We'll stay b/c it's only five classes and it's something for Paul and Josh to do together.
Josh was the youngest one and my goodness so serious-he didn't crack a smile once. So funny.
Paul had met us there so afterwards I put Josh in the car and Paul kept going to his car and you should have heard the screams when Paul walked away. Such a daddys boy. He loves his daddy. Oh well he'll have his fill of daddy this weekend!

Alright ladies i"m out have a great weekend.

Jen Have a great time on your girls weekend. I left DH with Dylan for a similar thing two weeks ago for a night. And I think it was great for all of us. Daddy and Dylan got some great bonding time, let Daddy see it is not all play and no work and gave me some time to re-group and relax and sip champagne!

I guess it's about time I come out of the closet and confess that we're expecting as well :D We weren't exactly trying for a second (DS turned one on Fathers' Day), but obviously we weren't doing a great job of not trying either  So far I've got no symptoms other than getting tired. It's hard not to blame it on the weather though or chasing after DS. Anyway, my betas were 840-something on July 19 (4w2d) so they appear okay. I'm going in tonight for another test just to be sure they're doubling as they should. From what I remember, this is higher than with DS, so I think this one is sticking around :)

Dana B - you've got mail! :D

AMC - I still love that pic of chloe, she's gorgeous how are you doing with your 2nd pregnancy?

Cohl - have a fun time at bryelle's party this weekend. what's your nickname for bryelle, besides baby mullet hair? bry? elle? such a fun name.

Jen1098 - do you have pics of josh swimming? I'm sure he'll warm up to the idea in time, although nikki still hates the pool, but she loves little baby pools, I guess the normal pools are just too intimidating for her.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

We survived Dylan's first birthday and first haircut ... lots of firsts the month of July! I am so fortunate that I got laid off from my job, took him out of daycare and was around to be a part of all of them ;)

We are flying to L.A. next week to see my brothers, then getting on the Disney cruise for a family reunion. Not worried about the cruise cuz I have a ton of helping hands but now that Dylan is walking, I have a feeling that he is gonna be a tough cookie on the 6 hour plane ride out there ... hope I am wrong!

Nothing new here except Simon's "buh buh" has transformed into "bye bye" now.

We will be packing this weekend. I can't believe we are actually leaving Michigan next week. It is so strange to think about leaving here for good, never ever to return. Ok first in good news Dylan really calls me mama which is SO amazing. I can't get enough of it.
BUT what is everyone doing about weaning off the bottles? or is everyone weaned onto a sippy? I have tried anything to get him to drink milk out of a sippy (he will only drink water) and tried every different cup. I just got the platext insulated to try next. I sign milk so he knows what it is, but he still slams it away. I tried also taking the valve out and putting some in his mouth so he can see it is milk - no lock. any suggestions???

Welcome Christy, mloveya & NicoleWisconsin!

Sal03 I need help with this too. I still give DD a bottle before nap and bedtime, which I know is not good habit. :( Any advice on weaning would be great.

Sal and AMC I wish I had suggestions for you... I am trying to wean Brady off the boobie and it is not going well. He only suckles to calm himself to go to sleep (sometimes several times throughout the night) but I don't know what to do. He gets so peeved at me when he throws his paci and reaches to the breast and I don't give it to him. He never took to the bottle so he is on sippy cups for all liquids. I tried every kind too and the ones that worked for him? the cheapest ones you can buy! They are the first years that you can re-use or toss. He loves them.

all the photos of all the birthdays are so beautiful!

Bottle weaning When DS turned a year, we started weaning from bottles and mommy. Basically we did full bottles of formula before naps and bedtime and offered milk in a sippy without a valve at meals and snacks. Every 2-3 days, I would drop the amount of formula in the bottle (instead of 4 scoops for 8 oz., 3 scoops for 8 oz, then 2, etc.) and offered the sippy at meals and snacks and I would offer it before naps and bedtime while we read and before I offered the bottle. As there was less and less formula in the bottle, he seemed to take more in a sippy, especially before going to sleep. He pretty much gave up the bottle on his own when there was just 1 scoop of formula and he would guzzle the milk. We kept the bottle around with just water in it just in case, but he hasn't had a bottle since he was 13 months, maybe just shy of that. Now I just offer milk in a sippy or a cup with a straw b/c I'm concerned about him getting enough milk. :D

Hello girls,

I just started giving DS the NUBY sippy cup http://store1.yimg.com/I/thebabybungalow_1850_5955789 and it seems to be working well. I would love to have him off the bottle by his 1st b-day but I know that I am not being realistic... :p

We are having his 1st birthday party on August 14th! Can't wait!! I can't believe my little boy is turning 1 already. Where did the year go????

Weaning: I am not trying to wean him completely from breastfeeding, only trying to not pump. So, I am not pumping any more and he gets whole milk while I am at work. I tried the first day to do no bottles, sippy cup only... But it was just too much to wean from the bottle and breastmilk in the bottle at the same time, so what we are doing is warm milk in bottles for snacks and sippy of water all day long... He's not very proficient at the sippy cup... I have been offering it since about 7 months, but not consistently (bad mommy) and only water. He drinks it just fine, but doesn't always hold it himself or take much from it. If the whole milk is cold, he gets it in his mouth and lets it dribble out. So we are warming it for now and will gradually decrease the temperature and then go to a cup. I'm not super worried... he gets maybe 10 bottles a week.

Cohl, hope your day wasn't as rainy as ours. :( We didn't use our digital camera (I love a film camera, still...) so I'll post pics when I can. Bryelle is adorable :)

Monique, I am also trying to wean Blake from nursing to sleep. He is the same as Brady... do you co-sleep? We do and Blake wakes up several times during the night to suckle back to sleep. At bed time and nap times the past few days, I have just held him and stroked his cheek and didn't nurse him. He does get upset some and cries, but I just hold him and stroke him and tell him I love him and he calms down within a few minutes. I also read (I think in Happiest Toddler) that one thing that helps babies that nurse to sleep is a blanket that is silky/satiny. So we have a blanket like that and we use it at nap/bed times, also... (Just started.) Hoping to establish a lovey and he'll associate it with bed time... And as soon as he does, we're off to buy a spare! ;)

We also use the NUBY, Blake can't seem to suck hard enough for the other spill proof sippys yet.
