I love this show but there are a ton of episodes that I haven't seen.. In case, on rerun that came on today from 2002. They had Diane Neal (Casey Novak) guest star on the show. She ended up being a rapist and murderer.. But later she is a star on the show. Do they use the same character or does she come on as someone else? I thought it was weird that they had her on there.

I haven't seen that episode, but I know it's pretty common in the L&O franchise for actors to play multiple roles. I know that Jerry Orbach and S. Epatha Merkerson both guest starred on L&O before they got their permanent roles (I think he played a defense attorney and she played a mother whose child was killed).

Casey is a different character than the murderess Diane played in the earlier season. As littlemia said - it's pretty common in the L&O universe.

I saw that episode, and I remember commenting to Jason on how odd it was for her to play a fairly prominent criminal character on an episode and then not too long afterwards, become the assistant DA.

I mean, her character on that one show was really out there!

I don't like it when they do that on shows; I mean, I know it's only TV and they're only actors playing different characters, but it's truly strange.

In last night's episode (April 4th) - when Olivia went to talk to the Cheif at the very very end, what did she say? I totally missed that part from switching between Gilmore Girls.

She said she wanted a new partner.

I've seen the same actor in different roles a lot on the different L&O shows. I was totally confused when I saw Chris Noth on Criminal Intent, since he was on the original L&O way back. I think he's a different character now.

She said she wanted a new partner.

Really? Why? I love this show but missed last night's episode... If anyone can illuminate me, I'd appreciate it.... Also, I remember seeing that episode with Casey not as the DA in reruns and was totally confused, too - but figured since it was a rerun, they must have cast her for that, then liked her enough to offer her the job later on when the other woman left.

They both ran into situations where they hesitated to act because they chose their partner over the job.

Thanks!! Hmm, does that mean they're setting up a romantic entanglement? That would be weird - though maybe that's where the storyline of Stabler's divorce has been heading...? I'll definitely have to watch next week!

SERIAL PEDOPHILE MURDERS FAMILY MEMBERS AND RUNS OFF WITH YOUNGER CHILDREN PROMPTING A CITYWIDE MANHUNT: Solid investigative work leads the detectives to a violent repeat sex offender Jeremy Paul Wilson (guest star Lou Diamond Phillips) who was recently released back onto the streets. Wilson, a cold blooded murderer and pedophile, is in possession of a cache of hunting knives, has kidnapped two children and has nothing to lose. The manhunt for Wilson brings Dets. Fin (Ice-T), Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Chris Meloni) to a bus terminal where a violent and emotional showdown with Wilson takes a dangerous turn.

They are in a crowded subway station and the little boy is standing amongst the crowd. The guy has the little girl and a knife at her throat and Benson has her gun aimed at him. Stabler is shouting at her to shoot him, but she can't get a clear shot. The guy leaps forward and slashes Bensons throat, so Stabler doesnt know if to stop for her or go after the kids...finally she says she okay and tells him to go after him. Stabler runs up the subway escalator only to find that the guy had cut the throat of the little boy and he's laying dead on the ground and the guy and the little girl are gone.

They continue the search for the guy and the little girl and end up in this warehouse, and it comes down to the crazy guy with a gun at Stablers head and Benson again pointing her gun at him. Stabler is telling her to shoot him, but she decides to try and reason with the guy and figure out where the little girl is. It is very emotional, and the crazy guy says a lot of very disturbing things about what hes done to the little girl. Benson needs to decide to take the risk of shooting him and perhaps the guy will also pull the trigger at Stablers head. Finally a snipper comes in and shoots the guy.

I think in the end they both realize that they handle situations differently and Stabler is provoked by his own emotions of being a father. Seems like there has been a lot of stress between them lately.

Maybe someone else can explain it better?

I'm pretty sure Chris Noth plays the same character on CI that he did on L&O, but I'm not sure.

I'm thinking that maybe they'll have Benson (mariska) go off to another precinct or something while she's on maternity leave? I totally thought on Tues show that she was going to be really injured and in a coma or something from the stabbing and that would be her maternity exit.

Me too. I thought from the previews that she would have been in a coma, but instead she just got cut.

Just felt like bumping this since the season premiere is tonight. I'm about to settle down in front of the TV.

If they try any monkey business like trying to hook Benson and Stabler up, I'll have to not watch anymore. I'm still ticked they broke up his marriage.

IMO, that will ruin the show. DH and I both feel this quite strongly.

I don't like it. Feels all disjointed with them not working together.

And what's up with the undercover assignment? I'm pretty sure they filmed this one last spring; it's obvious she's still pregnant. I wonder if she's now on maternity leave?

Adaya

Yeah, I don't like it either. It did look like she was pregnant. I was also wondering if she is now on maternity leave. The assignment they have her on is so silly though. The writers couldn't come up with something better?

The undercover storyline is how they are doing her maternity leave. She is out for six episodes and coming back in November for sweeps. :)

Does anyone watch L&O:CI? On the premiere, Eames is kidnapped when she comes home to an empty house. Didn't she have a baby on the show a year or two ago?

I do! Yes, she did give birth (as a surrogate) a year or so ago. They brought on that red headed detective to be Goren's partner while she was out.

Thanks, I missed the surrogate part and was like WTF? Who was she a surrogate for?

Oh thank goodness this is only for maternity leave. I watched this episode and was afraid they were writing her off! Thanks for the info!

So, she is only out on temporary basis? I missed the episode that gave the reason why she'd be out. I saw last night's show and the new character they've added.

And what an intriguing episode on a professional level too, no?

Ugh! I fell asleep with 15 minutes to go (just about the time Olivia said if the ME couldn't prove Elliot didn't kill anybody she would). What happened after that?

thedoorchick
02-14-2007, 08:33 AM
Oh NO! You missed all the good stuff!

Well, the whole thing was in the news, at which point Casey said she would have no choice but to charge him with murder. Someone had a cell phone video of Elliot struggling with the suspect and it did look like he was roughing him up pretty good (of course, as we all know it was in self defense).

Dr. Warner went to Elliot's house to tell him how sorry she was that it had all come to that, and he said something about how he hadn't killed the kid, in fact he performed CPR to try to save him. She said, "what? nobody told me that!" Apparently the officers on scene didn't know or didn't care. Warner said that the CPR could have ruptured his spleen post mortem. The question was then, how did he die? So they start combing through the case file.

Turns out that drugs were found in the urine from the toilet at the house that weren't in his system when he died. Apparently he had a heart arrythmia, that he wasn't taking his medicine for. That's how he died, the combination of being off his meds and the stress of running from the police. And it wouldn't have shown up on the autopsy so Warner had no clue.

So the grand jury declined to indict Elliot and he was cleared.

Then he went to see Kathy. She had seen the news, but told him she knew he didn't murder anyone. He told her, "I love my job, but I love my family more. Today, I almost lost them both." He told her he wanted to come home!

And I swooned! I've been waiting so impatiently for a reconciliation!

Now, they didn't show her reply, but I think she will take him back. We should find out in a week or two.

Can anyone fill me in on what's going on with the characters? I don't really care about the L&O part right now, but are Stabler and his wife getting back together? Any news with Olivia?

DH's stupid show preempts mine on tivo and neither one are repeated within a day or so.

The L&O franchises are notorious for doing this. Ice T was a drug dude in the L&O movie (where Chris Noth comes back). The ADA (Anne Parrise) also had a guest appearance way before she became the ADA.

Yep, I'm a L&O geek.

The other fun thing to do is spot the OZ characters. I swear the casts have so many cross overs. If you were on OZ, chances are you were, are or will be on L&O.

I was devastated last night when I went to watch the last 20 minutes of LAST WEEK's episode and TiVo had deleted it... argh!! I havent't seen last night's episode yet either.

What happened to Kathy after the car accident??? I saw where she said that her water had broken, and then I had to leave. I'm going nuts!!

She was fine, as was the little one. She delivered the baby in the ambulance. Elliot got there a little later and they buried the hatchet on the "is he/is he not mine" BS.
