Okay Ladies, I have to share this with you b/c I know you all will understand how I feel. Remember a while back when I posted about all the rude comments that I was getting at work? Well, today's comment of the day has pushed me to a whole new level.

One coworker, in front of about 20 other coworkers in my dept, was commenting on how much I was eating (my boss brought in bagels and I ate one - a half at a time so she saw me twice) and said....

Wow, Darla, your butt sure has gotten big already! I think it's doubled in size.

So, while everyone was laughing, I proceeded to tell her that I felt the comment was inappropriate and I was not allowing any further comments on ANYTHING regarding my pregnancy. Then I went back to my desk and cried. I know I shouldnt let it get to me, but i am so freakin hormonal right now that I'm tearing up as I type this. Luckily, I have a fabulous friend w/ two kids who I called and she went off on a rampage defending me and making me feel 10 times better. But, where do some people get off???

Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better already.

Sophia
01-19-2006, 09:01 AM
OMG, Darla! I can't belive she said that to you! What a rude freaking bitch. I'm so sorry you had to deal with crap like that.

Lil_Mrs_0702
01-19-2006, 09:09 AM
makena- I am so sorry- What a b!tch!! It's hard because once you announce that you are pregnant you are being constantly scrutinized and watched after. I treat myself to one carbonated non caffeine drink a week at work and I happen to grab it in front of a group of women in the lunch room and I start getting a speech about how that's bad for the baby with all the sugar and empty calories. I have to roll my eyes and walk off or I would probably cry because others think I'm a bad mom for having a soda. And God forbid if I was to cry at work all anyone would hear about is how I am a hormonal mess or something.

Thank you for all the comments on the big u/s! So I have a weird favor to ask. I'll temporarily post the gender but we are keeping it a secret from everyone IRL. Please don't repeat the gender again in the thread. I'm going to edit it in a few days to say that it is a suprise. It's just that I'm not sure if my mom knows I come here and my log on name is pretty obvious to her so I don't want her to spy and find out the sex. I would just rather announce to the family "We had ____!" and have it a suprise to everyone.

Liz- - If you want to later you can add mine in the number count of how many of each just please don't post that I am haing a boy/girl.

I am so glad now that we are finding out the sex! I was crying this morning because I can't believe that after today the baby is going to have a name! I finally feel like after this afternoon it will finally be real that I'm not just getting fat or that I'm pregnant but that I have a baby... I don't know it's just weird and exciting. I have the camcorder all charged up and hopefully we'll be able to record it. It would be nice for baby to see that moment. You know let him/her know how much their mommy and daddy love eachother and how much we already love baby.

makena32204

Thanks Sophia and Lil Mrs. You guys have made me feel better. I refuse to let them see me cry. Today is "birthday cake day" for all employees who are born this month and I am going to ask for the biggest freaking piece of cake w/ lots of icing! Okay, maybe not. :)

Lizard
01-19-2006, 09:17 AM
Darla, that's terrible. Some people are just stupid. Those are always the types of situations where I think of something witty to say (like "At least I'm pregnant, what's YOUR excuse for your fat ass?") AFTER I'm already out of the situation. :( I wish I was on the ball enough to think of those things right away.

I have to roll my eyes and walk off or I would probably cry because others think I'm a bad mom for having a soda.
LOL - I wonder what those people would do if they saw me having an occasional glass of wine, or my weekly sushi. ;)

makena32204 - Ugh, what is wrong with people??? What would possess someone to make a comment like that? People are idiots. I'm so sorry she made you upset - what a bitch.

01-19-2006, 09:24 AM

((((makena))))) I am so sorry---some people are just meanspirited. I think that you did a wonderfull jo teeling her that her comments are inappropriate, but may I suggest that you also let your human resources know what has happened, just incase it does happen again. If she is acting like that, who knows what she might try in the future when you really need her help. It is best to get it documented now.

Lil mis! Have fun today!

I guess that I have *popped* ---no one has said anything to me about looking pregnant (except for my friend's comment -"your boobs are ginourmous!) until 2 days ago. Since then I have had two strangers ask me and two coworkers say that I am showing. It is so strange since I have only gained 1 pound---but NOTHING fits..lol!

Doc appt today- triple test and tray sachs--damn vampires always want my blood ;)

makenaWow! I can't believe that woman had the nerve to say something like that. Good for you to standing up to her - I'm sure she wasn't expecting you to say anything. What a biotch!

Lil_Mrs_0702 Good luck!! It must be SO exciting. l can't wait for you to find out. I have to live vicariously through everyone as we are not finding out! :)

I've been lurking and reading. There isn't much going on with me right now. My next doctor's appt is Feb 7th so l have a while to wait. I'm still barely fitting into my regular clothes. I ordered a bunch of things from ON and Gap but they seem really big on me. I'm trying to wait for a bit before moving on to them.

Oh, thank goodness Lizard wrote about the pain she had because l have been having the exact same pains on my left side. I would have been running to my doctor too but I think it is round liagment pain and it sucks!! I have it all day long - not a happy camper right now.

makena - what is wrong with people? although entirely out of character for me, i would have been inclined to say "well so has yours, what's your excuse?". some people thrive on making others miserable. i try to stay away from people like that, but in the workplace it's impossible. good for you for saying something to her. and, it is perfectly normal for all of our butts to get bigger...we're carrying babies for god's sake!

lil mis - how exciting!

regarding soda, i'm not typically a soda drinker but i have been craving coke lately. there's nothing wrong with it at all. sugar? so what. and my ob says it's fine to have 1-2 caffeinated drinks per day. ok, maybe not the healthiest thing in the world, but it's surely not going to affect the baby! and, emmjay, i agree. i eat sushi also. and he says the same thing about wine....occasionally not anything to worry about.

Since we're all in the Confessional.... I had a Mountain Dew Code Red yesterday and it tasted SO GOOD. :D

Lil_Mrs_0702
01-19-2006, 10:45 AM
I'm not really that paranoid about caffeine or sodas. The only reason why I restrict myself on soda is because I have decided to give up all caffeinated beverages and have my daily intake of caffeine in chocolate. I restrict myself on carbonated beverages at work because I get the worse uncontrollable burps (My DH has admitted that he couldn't compete w/ me in a burping contest after I have had a soda.) and I have to be on the phones all day. I really don't want people's first impression of the company to be me burping in their ear.

Maryanne- Isn't exciting when you pop! I can still cover mine up in layered clothing but it's fun to show off the belly every once in a while.

Lil_Mrs_0702, Good luck with your appointment!! How exciting!!

Makena, I cannot believe what that woman said to you-- that's just beyond horrible. I would have cried, too. Good for you not letting them see you get upset! People can be so mean.

Confessional-- I have a cup of half-decaf/half-regular coffee every day and the occasional splash of wine. :p

My next appointment is the 31st and I am so impatient! I just want to hear the heartbeat again. Our big U/S is 2/28, so I have 6 more weeks to wait for that one. Time is CRAWLING by...

So has anyone felt movement? I have heard a few of you saying so, But I haven't am I being paranoid?:rolleyes:

Confessional I have only had a few dieat cokes nothing big because they usually give me heartrburn and I just recently have had a few cups of coffee Decaf. but I have been eating chocolate! so... and I guess the nacho's lunch are not that healthy either so O-well to all who think I'm not eating well!!:rolleyes:

Just some trivia from a 2nd timer....

There was an article out when I was pg with my DD that basically said that studies have shown that eating "lots" of chocolate while pregnant leads to a happier baby. I ate my fair share, and have an extrememly pleasant and happy little girl.

Wish I still had the link to the article.

Hi everyone,

I had an appointment with the midwife yesterday. I got the AFP done, but otherwise it was basically in and out. The heartbeat was 152.

Lil_Mrs_0702 - good luck at the ultrasound. That is very exciting!

Makena - That's so weird that someone could be that rude. Would you ever think to comment on someone elses butt? Sounds like she needs a hard kick.

Confessions - too much chocolate, sips of hubbies alcoholic drinks, at least one soda a day (usually decaf), the occasional deli sub, and a bite (gasp!) of raw cookie dough. It's amazing I'm alive to tell my plight.

kellyann1972
01-19-2006, 12:47 PM
WOW confessions how long do you have?? I have a half decaf/half caf coffee in the am with Equal LOL! I drink a diet coke without caffiene a day. I had a glass of wine last weekend with my sister :- )))) I eat cold cuts about once a week.

Anyway had the quad screen this am. Got weighed and gained 5 lbs in two weeks WTF? I have been eating better too. So now I am 16 weeks and up 10 lbs! I only gained 20 total with Ryan.
On other news I slept on the floor last night cause RYan decided to learn how to jump out of his crib. NO injuries but now he can roam free which is scary. My back hurts too!

Lil Mrs - we are in the same boat, as we are planning to find out but not tell anyone. We think it will make things easier when it comes to shopping and planning, but still keep the excitement for our families. Good luck today!!!

Makena - I am so sorry that someone said that to you - she was probably just jealous (everyone thinks pregnant women are beautiful - and we are!!), so she was probably just looking for attention!

Threadmistress, can you please change my next appointment to 2/2? A friend was teasing me - if the ground hog sees its shadow, it means I will carry the baby 6 weeks longer. :p Very funny!

Nothing new to report - my nipples are hard and sore, and it is very frustrating. My boobs are finally beginning to grow - I have officially outgrown all my bras. They are getting heavy, too, this is really weird!

Next doctor's appt - 2/10
Gender prediction - GIRL

Klav, I wouldn't worry about not feeling anything yet- from what I've read, most people usually don't feel anything until 16-20 weeks. :)

Lil Mrs

Good Luck today! How exciting to be finding out what you are having. I wish we could keep ours a secret but... DH just wouldn't be able to do it.

Makena

So very sorry to hear about what happened this morning. How could she be so very rude... I agree I think she is just jealous. It was good of you to stand up for yourself though and tell her she was in the wrong for saying what she did.

Confessions - I normally have one soda a day normally decaf.

CarlaB
01-19-2006, 02:42 PM
Emmjay, my big U/S is scheduled for March 28 (!!) at 22 weeks because my every 4 week appointment falls then. Sigh!

Confessions- 2 eggs over easy, once a week. 8 ounces of Coca Cola occasionally, full sugar, full caffeine. Deli sammie about once every 2 weeks. More carbs than should be legal...all the time.

ETA: Makena, you are eternally good and patient. I would have told her off and frankly, there is still time to pull her aside and let her know what she said was unacceptable and incase she did not get the message earlier, she needs to refrain from remarks about your pregnancy. I am sorry you have to deal with people like her.

ShelbyMay
01-19-2006, 02:46 PM
emmjay: I think I have to wait until 20 weeks, too. That will be late February for me, so you're not alone in the long wait!

Confessions: I drink sweet iced tea 3-4 times a week, and an occasional Coke or Dr. Pepper -- sometimes the sugar and caffeine just feels sooooooo good. I've had tomato bleu cheese soup 2x since the BFP. I've had deli meats at least 3 times. I took cold medicine for 4 days straight last week (feeling guilty about it the whole time) because it was the only way I could breathe/sleep. Oh, and I got a filling with local anesthetic at the dentist today. (Maybe it's all the sweet tea. :o )

Amaye
01-19-2006, 03:13 PM
cpbride Wish l could see that article. For some reason, my craving for chocolate has suddenly increased! Not good.....

Emmjay Me too - l have to wait till 20 weeks for the big U/S so l have a while to wait. Well, not that it really matters as we are not finding out. DH really doesn't want to find out and I'm half and half on it - so we decided no.

kellyann1972 Sounds like you had a lovely night! ;) That must be scary that he can jump out. Oh..the things to look forward too!:D :eek:

Confession A small cup of coffee M-F, definitely more carb then l should even be thinking of, glass of champagne once in a while, once/twice have had my steak more medium then well-done....oops!!

lindybug
01-19-2006, 03:41 PM
confessions: I have not exercised since the day before Thanksgiving. I drink 2-3 glasses of regular (caffeinated) iced tea a day, and not nearly enough water or milk. Don't think I've had anything with protein in it for days. Oh, and I sometimes forget my prenatal vitamin. What is wrong with me?!?

Sophia
01-19-2006, 03:43 PM
Confessions Sprite. All the freaking time. We're out and I need more now, darn it. We never keep soda in the house because I feel it's just empty calories, but I started drinking it to soothe my nausea and now I'm hooked. I never even really liked Sprite before. I've always ben a root beer or Dr. Pepper girl.

I frequently forget to take my prenatal vitamins. Even though DH reminds me.

I haven't exercised in ages.

*****

I was out today and bought a body pillow. It's the Back 'N Belly Contoured Body Pillow (http://store.yahoo.com/leachco/backnbelly.html), by the same company that makes the Snoogle. I liked it better than the Snoogle because you can flip from right side to left side without having to reposition the darn thing.

While I was at the store I also looked at the crib and dresser I want, in the specific color I liked best online. I'm 100% sold on it now, but I still need to take DH to the store with me to see it in person, although he likes it from seeing it online--it's the the Baby's Dream Infinity in Chestnut (http://www.babysdream.com/catalog/infinity_col.htm), which is the color shown. I think instead of the dresser they show there I'd rather get the Combo (without the hutch) (http://www.babysdream.com/catalog/changing_iniy_1.htm).

I've also narrowed down the travel system I want, the Graco Metrolite in Delancy Print (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005NZ2K/qid=1137708702/br=1-1/ref=br_lf_ba_1//102-2029068-9240131?v=glance&s=baby&n=542442). I saw it at TRU before I went to the other store. I had already seen it online but needed to see it in person. DH gave that his tentative approval as well, after seeing it online.

Darla- What an awful comment. Clearly that woman is batteling her own insercurities to make such a rude and inappropriate statement. Sheesh!
Way to go for standing up to her...I propbably would have sulked away and then been pissed at myself later. :rolleyes:

Confessions- I FREQUENTLY forget my prenantal vitamin (bad mommy!), don't drink nearly enough water (but I'm getting better!), have had sushi 4 times this pregnancy (though I limit the ammount of raw stuff and only eat from very reputable places), have had sips of DH's red wine here and there, eat soft cheeses and the occassional deli sandwhich and drink one cup of FULLY caffeniated coffee each week...1/2 caff, 1/2 decaf on the other days.

Big U/S- Mine isn't even scheduled yet...but like emmjay, it won't be until early March sometime. :rolleyes:

I frequently forget to take my prenatal vitamin. (I remembered every day during the first trimester, though.) I drink caffeinated sodas several times a week. I haven't exercised in about two months. I eat deli subs (and sometimes tuna!!) I have eaten McDonald's twice this week. :o :eek:

makena how horrible! We were playing guess the gender at work the other day and one girl told me I was going to have twin boys because my butt is getting so big. :mad: People have no tact. ((HUGS))

13 weeks today finally:) just one more week till I'm in the second trimester with the rest of you.

Lil_Mrs_0702-Congrats on your news. That is so exciting.

Big U/S- Mine in scheduled for March 2nd. It seems so far away.

Confessions- I had a salad the other day with Goat cheese on it and felt guilty after, and I really need to drink more water.

Sophia-Great choices on baby stuff....you are so far ahead of me. I haven't even started looking yet.

Had my Ultrascreen test last week, and everything came back fine. So now I just have the neural tube test at my 16 week appointment.

Hope you all have a great weekend:)

Oh my word, I am SOOO behind! My modem at home is on crack-- it's really cutting into my computer time!

Thanks Lizard for setting up this new thread! Yay to the 2nd trimester :)

Lil_Mrs_0702 - Congrats!!! Your belly shots are SOOO cute :)

Sophia - I SOOO need to get that pillow, or something like it. I really don't think the Snoogle will work for me because I do shift in the middle of the night!

Confessions: I've been drinking a Coke Zero every day after work (weird craving, since I've never been a big soda drinker), I've eaten sushi (all cooked) a couple of times, I eat WAY too many carbs, and a lot more sugar than my body is used to! I've started to have a craving for chocolate (also odd, since it usually gives me headaches)-- and last night I ate pancakes for dinner :rolleyes:

My next appt is Wednesday-- I'm looking forward to hearing the h/b again and seeing if I've gained any weight (I feel like I have--so we shall see!). I'm also looking forward to scheduling the u/s!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend :)

Lil_Mrs, congrats!!! :D How exciting! The u/s pix are so adorable, and you look great.

I can't wait till my big u/s, not that I know when that will be. I'll ask next Friday when I go for the blood draw for the triple screen.

mrst2b2003, glad your Ultrascreen came back good. :) I have a triple screen next Friday--still nervous about it.

Baby Gear So I have a few things picked out already, as I posted yesterday. I want to start buying stuff but it feels kind of weird to buy stuff already, even though I know a couple of you have already ordered your cribs and/or bought the stroller/travel system. Maybe I'll decide after DH see stuff this weekend. He thinks it's too early, though. :rolleyes: Oh, I also almost bought a few Carters Just One Year layette items at Target yesterday--the ones with the duckies (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-6/qid=1137766904/ref=sr_1_6/602-3333563-9901429?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B000AVZVIU). I don't usually like yellow, but I LOVE duckies. :)

After the first night using it, I can say I'm pleased. I still need to get used to it, especially the head/neck end (I'm used to a lower pillow), but I love that I can switch sides and immediately snuggle in and be comfy. I slept pretty well last night. :)

Hi ladies,

Not too much to report. We scheduled our big u/s for February 10th, 3 weeks from today. BUT we are holding onto Team Yellow. I just love a good surprise. My next appointment with the MD is February 6th.

Lil' Mrs - Congrats on the u/s. Belly pics are great, is this your first?

Sophia - I love that crib. Are you getting the convertable because that's the kind you wanted or did you just like the style of the crib more? I am also planning on getting the Graco Metrolite in Delancy. The Quattro just seemed to cumbersome to me.

We started looking into daycares. It's pretty pricey but we found a few places that are more reasonable. People I've talked to said we are starting at the right time as they are just doing there fall schedule and spots fill up quickly.

01-20-2006, 08:40 AM
mmisabel awsome!!
what is the diffrence between the two strollers? is it just the weight?
Iwas looking at the windsor, Quattro tour because we can't find the classic pooh

Sophia I missed the crib what one is it?
I'll have to go back and look

klav
01-20-2006, 08:44 AM
Sophia found It I love it close to what we wanted but someone might give us there white one. so I may take it? I really wanted a dark chrry convertable crib but what are ya going to do when you can get one for free! plus the fact we have two full size frames in the basement for when heshe get's bigger.

Sophia
01-20-2006, 08:51 AM
Klav, I saw the Snoogle at Target, Toys R Us (we don't have a Babies R Us yet, but I heard we will soon) and the locally owned non-chain store, Pink & Blue, where I bought the Back 'N Belly Pillow.

The crib we're getting (I see you found it) also comes in a light Honey color and a darker Cherry, as well as a very pretty color called Amber that looks like root beer to me. :)

I chose the Metrolite stroller over the Quattro because it's much lighter--about 18 lbs compared to 30. I love the look of the Quattro, though, but I think the Delancy print colors on the Metrolite are snazzy and make up for the plainer frame.

mmisabel, since this will be our last child (my other 2 are 13 yo and 10 1/2 yo), we wanted a convertible because we figure that way we're buiying the child's furniture for the next 18+ years. I also like the way convertibles look. I had also liked the Baby's Dream Serenity a lot, but the Infinity is more gender neutral and classic looking.

u/s pics questions-
Water- I drank a bottle of water (20oz) at the hour mark before and then drank on the ride over just until I felt the urge to pee. It worked out perfectly and the tech complimented me on filling my bladder. After she initially found the baby and did a few measurements (10 min maybe) she let me use the restroom and then she did most of her measurements. The baby is less active when the bladder is full because it had less room which is better for some pics and then after I empty it she waits until the baby moves to get certain shots and measurements. It's really crazy!

This is my first u/s with this baby. I had the option to come in for a 10 week but with the last baby I got screwed in hospital bills because that insurance company didn't find the early one medically necessary.

Klav- I have been having a ton of dreams lately with either sex. Last night it was a little boy and he was huge! He was eating solids and everything... I remember in my dream I fell asleep on my parents couch and he just came over and started feeding himself! Weird huh!

Confessions- I also love the little confessions. It's nice to know that no one is perfect.

Lil_Mrs_0702 Congratulations!! I saw your news last night - that's great! Your belly picture looks great! l can't wait for my belly to be that big.

Lil_Mrs_0702 - I've been meaning to tell you this, but your boy's name choice of Edge is cool as hell. :D Not sure how you decided on that name, but when I think Edge I think of this guy... hubba hubba:

http://augustachronicle.com/images/headlines/070801/WOMEN_WRESTLING_EDGELR.jpg

Another Confession - I've been eating Greek salads, complete with the ominous feta cheese, at least once a week. They taste too good!

I've been perusing furniture sites, and although I'd been sold on the idea of a convertible crib for future use, I've been drawn to the traditional looking cribs lately. Something very simple and classic. Who knows what we'll end up with though. :rolleyes:

Movement - I think I posted a week ago or so about possibly feeling movement. Well, that hasn't happened since and I'm thinking that's not what I was feeling. :( I have had a weird unsettled stomach feeling this week, but nothing that I would definitively say is movement. Hopefully soon!

Have a great day and great weekend everyone!

Klav - I also saw that pillow on amazon.com, I think it is about $55. The Quattro is about 10lbs more than the Metrolite. For me the Quattro was too cumbersome, but it's definitely a much more sturdy stroller, so it all depends on what you're looking for.

Sophia - That's a good idea about the crib. We will probably have 1 more and then by done, so I may be looking at a more traditional crib for this baby.

I keep thinking of the edge from U2 when I see that name --which always makes me smile since they are one of my favorites...

Maryanne,

I know I have been thinking the same thing... I have been extremely tired these past few days so glad it is Friday so I can go home and get some much needed rest.

All this talking about cribs and strollers is making me think I better start looking again this weekend. DH and I like the crib at Target called Kalani by Da Vinci but we are a bit apprehensive about getting a crib from Target. For those of you that have bought cribs before or know what you are getting, if you don't mind me asking how much did you spend??

I would like one from Pottery Barn not too bad, but the one we really like from Ragazzi in just way too $$$.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting updates on the replies to this thread and then I realized it was a new thread and I hadn't subscribed. D'oh! :o

Lil_Mrs Love the pictures. The third u/s shot looks like the baby is looking right at us and waving. :) I can't wait to have mine done!

So, for those of you finding out the gender, are you planning on sharing the news with your families? If so, how will you do it?
I'm thinking of scanning some copies at wal-mart on their kodak picture maker and then adding the text "reserved for your grandson/daughter, expected to arrive June, 2002." And putting it in a frame. Cheesy?

I forgot to post this earlier, but I really think that I have been feeling baby movement! I felt a tickling/fluttering sensation a couple of days ago in my lower belly (below the belly button) and I felt it again today. It's a weird sensation to describe, but it's definitely not gas. Both times I have been sitting back (in the same kinda lounge position) in a chair at work. I guess only time will tell if it's the real thing!

Sharing the gender news - We are DEFINITELY going to let everyone know, but we probably won't do anything special to share the news. I'll probably just end up calling everyone after the appt and screaming the news to them over the phone! I don't think we are going to share the name until right before the due date (my friend just did this-- she shared the name at the baby shower and it was a really sweet moment).

I know some of you have mentioned dreams... mine have managed to get even more vivid in the past couple of weeks-- to the point where I don't want to wake up because I'm enjoying my dream! I actually turned my alarm off on Thursday-- and the rationalization was to "just until I finish my dream."

Sophia

So, for those of you finding out the gender, are you planning on sharing the news with your families? If so, how will you do it?

I keep going back and forth. I'm horrible at keeping secrets, though, and I know I'll want to register for a few gender-specific items, so we'll probably tell people. I'll probably just call my parents, and DH will call his parents, and just tell them. I don't like making too big a deal out of things.

Wrighty, yay for feeling movement! How exciting! I sometimes go a day or two without noticing any for-sure movements.

I just took another belly shot. It looks like 13 weeks and 15w2d are almost the same, but I swear I'm bigger now. I think it's the different clothes.

Nothing very interesting to add today...I ordered a Snoogle (the original) from Amazon and will give that a try when it comes in next week. I am having trouble staying on my side, and I thought it might help. If not, I think I can return it to BRU.

The information I got from the hospital says to call between 15-20 weeks to schedule a tour. I kind of want to call now, but I don't want to look too... I dunno -- geeky? Eager, anyway. :o Maybe I will wait until 17 or 18 weeks and then nonchalantly call, as if it almost slipped my mind. ;)

I wanna go on our tour! :p

MkvhI'm really having a hard time finding gender-neutral bedding that isn't a *theme*. Well, unless you count the over-$500 variety! So my mom is going to make my bedding. We're planning on using a few (three?) companion fabrics (stripe, plaid, etc., in the same color scheme). Yeah, I've looked at www.javisdavis.com & really like some of their fabric sets. Not sure if we'll go with that yet... still looking around. I wish I was a great sewer & I'd just make my own. I do know what you mean about being over $500 for the non-theme bedding. We are going to find out the sex so I do want bedding to reflect the gender (colors mainly).

anyone doing the testing for downs and spinabifita? In 3 weeks we will do the quad screen along with the screening for cystic fibrosis.

Makena32204 Sorry people are so rude & nasty!

Belly Hair I get my bikini area waxed every month too so maybe I'll add my belly next time. It isn't too bad at this point but I do notice the hair more than normal. Maybe it is darker?

Confession I will drink iced tea on occassion when eating out. I do not refrain from eating deli meat- I love sandwiches especially when out to eat for lunch. I do eat eggs over-easy on occasion- might have some this weekend b/c that sounds pretty good! Other than that, I think that has been it for now.

Sophia With the pillow that you bought, do you find that you can put the pillow easily between your knees? I have to have something inbetween my knees so it would be great if I could have a body pillow that would allow this. Also, what do you usually do with your arms with this pillow? Currently I sleep with one arm under my regular pillow & one hand inbetween my knees (with the blanket).

So, for those of you finding out the gender, are you planning on sharing the news with your families? If so, how will you do it? Yes, I don't think it would be easy to keep it a secret from our family. Plus if we didn't tell them, we couldn't register for anything gender specific. Also, I couldn't show any of the baby stuff that we buy. Much too difficult! As far as how we'll tell them, I'm not sure. I'm not feeling too creative at the moment!

I had my OB appointment today & heard the heartbeat for the first time (we got to see it on the ultrasound the last time but not hear it). That was really exciting. The heartrate was 152 & would jump up to 160 when the baby would move. DH was pretty excited to hear the heartbeat as well. Does anyone know what they say about heartrate related to whether it is a boy or a girl?

We got our lab slip to do the quad screening in 3 weeks. It is up to us whether we do it or not, but I think that we will. They will also screen me to see if I am a carrier of cystic fibrosis. Dr. said they are screening everyone who opts to get the quad screen.

We got our BIG ultrasound scheduled for February 27! Very excited for this date. Our next regular OB appointment is scheduled for February 17th.

Everything else went well at the appointment- blood pressure was good & no sugar or protein in urine. As far as weight goes, I was excited to see that I only gained 1 pound in the last 4 weeks. I had thought that my intense hunger had gone away & I was right. It might have also helped that I started working out a couple weeks ago. The appointment before I had gained 3 pounds in 3 weeks. So total I am up 4 pounds this pregnancy which I am okay with.

I am wearing pretty much all maternity clothes at this point but the pants are all 1st/2nd trimester pants so they fit really good. Old Navy has had great sales at their stores (not as big of sales on-line) I've bought some shirts for $2-$5, pants for $10 & some sweaters for $5.

I don't think I look very pregnant yet but I saw an old co-worker the other day & she took one look at me & said, "Are you pregnant?" I was amazed as I thought I was hiding it pretty well (I didn't tell my boss until yesterday!).

Wrighty26, I think I have been feeling movement too. Mostly when I'm lying down very still...sometimes it just feels like the bottom of my stomach gets very hard for a few sections (baby pushing?). I hope that's what it is!

The heartbeat rates--well, you know they say fast heartbeat is a girl. But it's supposed to be an old wives' tale.

Sophia, you look great! Totally pregnant. I fear I just look heavy. I haven't told my work yet but plan to in the next two weeks. I was hoping to do it after the big ultrasound.

Yeah, I can do several things easily: hook my top leg over the pillow, or tuck the pillow between both legs, or stretch my legs out. As far as the arms, I generally tend to "hug" myself anyway, so I'm kind of used to not stretching my arms out. I mainly keep my arms tucked up next to me, but I have also put my bottom arms under the pillow.

maybebaby, thanks. :) I like my belly, and DH keeps saying how cute it is. :)

We went out to eat last night and even though I was hungry and feel like I finally have my old appetite back, I couldn't finish all my food. Of course, that used to sometimes happen at that restaurant pre-preg, too, because they have large portions, so I guess I am back to normal. Yay!

Don't want to jinx myself, but my nausea/vomiting and even my acid reflux have totally disappeared. It's awesome. *knock on wood*

Sophia Very nice crib!!
i went today to look at the one a friend was giving me. let's just say it was not what I was thnking at all sorta looks like one of those hospital cribs. but what was I to say not I don't want it. So we packed it in my car where it still sits until I find a good will to drop it at. Poo I had high expectations and I don't know why?
So I went back to look at the crib both Dh and I love it's a Park ave from bassett going to see if there's anywhere that has it cheeper than the 500.00 price tag BRU has it at.

heart beats I've herad the same about the high number being a girl but also hear it's an old wives tale?

I am back from vacation and can finally try to keep up with the thread!!

Confessions I eat candy/sugar like a non-preggo (dr. says it is ok since I am not having trouble with weight gain (+2lbs) ). I drink 2 cups of non-decaf tea/day. I rarely eat veggies or fruit since my appetite has not fully returned and they are not high enough in calories and I'd lose weight. I still eat fast food when the mood strikes and eat lunchmeat 2-3x/week. Also, emotionally I am still in denial that I am actually going to have this baby. I cannot bring myself to walk into a maternity store (a mixed store like ON is ok) or start thinking about baby products.

Belly Hair Yup :D It is kinda funny to me. It is most noticable in the shower or in good lighting.

Baby Movement I too think I started to feel the baby move this week but it is very hard to say for sure. Things most definitely feel different down there and I get intermittant sensations that I've never had before. I sneezed a couple of days ago while sitting with a belt on and it felt like a worm was writhing in my uterus area. Really bizzare!

So, for those of you finding out the gender, are you planning on sharing the news with your families? If so, how will you do it? Yes, I am done with keeping secrets since I kept my pregnancy a secret for so long. I am naturally very open and it kills me to not tell people things. I fully realize the bombardment of baby clothes I will receive!

Sophia You are looking fabulous! What a gorgeous baby belly!

Lil_Mrs Congrats on your news! How exciting! I can't believe we are getting to that stage so quickly!

So without much more adieu...here are my most recent belly pics! You may replace my old belly pic on the first page with this one. Let me know if it is too big...I can alter it if it is.

We had a super busy day today - I had 2 concerts (two different groups and sets of music, ugh!), and we also did a TON of demo in the new family room-to-be!

Body Hair - I think my body is all the hair from my legs and putting it in weird places. My legs look like I shaved them yesterday (even though it was like a week ago, at least), but my tummy looks like I should be shaving THAT instead.

Maternity Clothes - I got some great pants from Gap, just wanted to mention. Their pants are soooo comfy, I can't wait to get some more! I am to the point where I am almost in maternity pretty daily (or wanting to be!), so I need to get a few more pieces.

Happy Monday-- ugh!

It's really exciting to hear that most of you are feeling like your old selves again! I really don't know how some of you made it through the first trimester...

Sophia - I really like the crib and the dresser! Must check out Baby's Dream cribs!

Soulmate - Your belly is looking cute! The 'things' (I'm still hestitant to officially call it movement) I've been feeling are strange, too - but I welcome them if it's the baby!

Belly Hair - I'm generally a hairy person (I'm Greek-- it's in genes I suppose!), and if anything the hair on my belly has just gotten a little darker. My hair in general is growing like a weed!

I weighed myself at the gym on Saturday (normal time, same scale) and I'm up 3 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. I was both happy and sad about this. It's definitely going to be hard to see the scale go up-- although I'm pretty sure the 3lbs that I have gained are all in chest because I swear it's growing AGAIN! Good Morning, Everyone!

We had a very busy weekend since my IL’s were here from PA. We went to the beach yesterday and let me be the first to tell all of you, your skin is definitely more sensitive when you are preggo! My arms and legs are burnt and we were only there for a little over an hour! :eek:

We have also decided on a stroller. We like the Graco Quattro Tour Travel System in Mocha. My IL’s were going to buy it for us, but since the warranty starts from the date of purchase, it didn’t make sense to have the warranty for 6 months that it will be sitting in a closet! So, they are going to get it for us a little closer to the date.

I had my doctor appt on Friday afternoon. Everything went well. We got to listen to the baby’s heartbeat for the first time, since during our last u/s we only saw the heartbeat. The heartbeat was 154. The doctor said my weight was good and everything was going well. They also drew blood for the last part of the NT test (I think that’s the one).

Finally - I think I am finally out of the m/s stage! I am feeling really well and I hope I didnt just jinx myself!

Threadmistress…..my next appt with u/s is Feb 22nd!

I forgot to mention....my doctor's office has the newest u/s equipment and it must be pretty high tech b/c I [B]dont[B] have to drink a ton of water before my next u/s!!! I was so excited when I found this out! I have a small bladder to begin w/, so I was worried that I would pee my pants!

HEY ALL!!
so i WAS WONDERING IF i MENTIONED THIS BEFORE FORGIVE ME IF (caplock oops)I have.
I was checking out strollers this weekend and found that there are only 5 well at least w/ Graco. that will hold a baby up to 30lb and 32 inches all the rest are 22 lb 29 Inches. and if your a tall couple I've been told to watch out fort his. so then here's the delema.... do we get the travel system that holds the reg 22lb. or get the one that holds the 30lbs. the one that holds 30lbs. only comes seperate and the car seat is about 139.99. by itself!:eek:
then to getthe stroller it's another 139.99 but it hold the kid till 50lb.
or do we suck it up and get the travel system or the Quattro that will last for a short time ans upgrade when we have to?:confused:
So.. talked last night w/Dh when he got hme rom fishing and I think we may do a combo with the snapand go? not sure I think we need to talk abit more because I don't think he knows the travel systems weight of 30lbs it self?

so my weekend was relaxing 3 movies(netflix) and some light house cleaning!

Klav - That's a good question! I hadn't really paid attention to weights and heights, but maybe I should have. We just got the Quattro along with the car seat, knowing that we'll have to get a bigger car seat eventually. I'll have to check the weight and height limits on that.

makena - I wish I had a beach nearby to go to! I've been daydreaming of taking a short cruise before the baby comes, but unfortunately it's just a daydream. That doesn't stop me from finding really good deals and sending them to DH though, LOL. :)

Just checking in.... there's really nothing to report though. Boring weekend - we just hung out, did some house cleaning, ran a few errands and watched football yesterday. Oh, and I bought some new bras... ahh comfort. We still have random boxes sitting in the room that will be the nursery, so I need to get those moved out sometime. The closet in that room has sliding doors, and I'm thinking I might take them off so it feels roomier and the closet's more easily accessible. I saw someone else on the boards do that same thing, and it looked really nice. I'll also need to paint the closet the same color as the room (which is currently a limey green).

2 more days until we meet with our new doc and hopefully get an u/s appt. set up. I'm getting very excited! Also, we should have the results of our quad screen within the next day or two, assuming my old doctor calls me. If he doesn't, I'll ask my new doc to let me know after they transfer my records.

Today is the first day I've put on my work clothes and thought that I looked pregnant. :) I think it's the sweater I'm wearing today. I'm still waiting for the baby to do some definitive kicks... I feel things that I think might be kicks, but I can't say for sure.

Have a great day ladies!

klav- I dont know if this will help or not, but the salesman at BRU explained to us that the Graco Quattro Tour strollers are actually rated to hold infants w/out the infant car seat. There is a flap where the child's legs go thru the stroller that flips up and locks in, so that if you laid the baby in the car seat, he wouldnt be able to slid out the bottom. I dont know if that makes sense or not. If you ask at BRU, they might be able to explain better than I can. Anyway - this might solve the dilemma for you once your infant is greater than 22 lbs or too long for the infant car seat.

Stroller/Travel System Weight Guidelines: I'm confused. Are some of you saying that the Graco strollers only go to 22 lbs/29 inches? Those sound like the weight limits for the SnugRide carseat, not the stroller. I had several Graco strollers with DS & DD and used them waaaay after 22 lbs/29 inches.

I just looked on gracobaby.com, and the Recommended Use for the Metrolite says:

This stroller is for infants and children up to 4 years and less than 40 lbs. The SnugRide infant car seat is to be used rear-facing only and is for infants 5 lbs to 22 lbs and less than 29 inches tall.

And for the Quattro says:

Stroller: For infants and children up to 4 years old & less than 40 lbs. Car Seat: Rear facing for infants 5 lbs to 22 lbs. & less than 29”

If the concern is that the baby will outgrow the infant car seat too soon, you may want know that Baby Bargains recommends getting an infant car seat because they fit newborns much better than the convertible car seats that claim to start at 5 or 6 pounds. I tried that once and even though the car seat may claim it's designed for newborns, they really don't fit right. Also, be aware that a convertible car seat will not snap into the stroller the way an infant seat will, nor will you be able to use it as a carrier when grocery shopping, etc. Just something to think about. I plan to get an infant car seat because I think they work better for newborns.

Also, you may want to check the Car Seat thread in Parenting. They explain that even if the baby is longer than 29", what really matters in how tall the baby is in the torso and how high his/her ears and shoulders are compared to the slots for the straps and the back of the seat. This is because some baby's are long in the legs with short torsos. Also, it's best/safest to keep baby rear-facing as long as possible, even if he/she meets the weight/height guidelines for going forward facing, and even if the baby's legs are bent at the knee. I kept mine rear-facing for a year.

makena32204 thanks but I think the delema is more the the car seat than the stroller. I did see those...

Sophia sorry for the confusion I wa mostly talking about the travel system strollers with the car seats and even the new harmony model that's out now at BRU. I know the storllers hold up to 40-50 lbs but I'm a bit worried about the car seat beacuse I was such a long baby(23") and my DH is 6'2" not sure how long he was? I guess average? I want something that will last linger than 29inches and the majority of the ones I looked at with the travel systems and alone in the car seat Isle at BRU all were the 22 lb and 29 inches. I want something to last a bit longer than normal and I do understand the child had to face rear for a year. So I was looking for something that would be a better car seat for an infant to the longest possible max I could find?
Sorry I was not really talking about the strollers. but I also noticed the car seats with the larger lengthes were alot more expensive and come seperat than all the travel systems you see alot of. I did see fusion from Graco that may be what we go with?

Hey ladies! Checking in to our beautiful new thread. (Thank you, Threadmistress(es)!!!)

I was down with a migraine from Wednesday afternoon throught Saturday. No fun. And it finally took a second prescription from the OB to kick it. This is the second one in less than a month, and I am so worried that they will keep recurring. It was awful. But now I am back!!!

Confessions--(Loving these, BTW!) I have had 2 glasses of red wine. I eat tuna salad every other week or so (it tastes good!). I just had lunch meat last night...mmm! And I have a caffienated beverage pretty much daily.

Baby Stuff--I'm so thankful for the discussion on weight limits on the infant seats. We tend to have large babies on both sides of our families (my DH's niece is so big she's never been ON a growth chart :rolleyes: ), so that certainly is a concern for us. I'm guessing we'll just have to move to the infant/convertible seat more quickly than most.

Non-theme baby stuff--My mom found a site that has a line of GREAT non-theme nursery decor. It's a little pricier than I had hoped, but I found EXACTLY what I want, no sewing required. The site is www.dreamtimebaby.com.

Threadmistress, can you please update my age to 29?? Thanks!

Hope all of you are feeling well.

Sophia

Soulmate, thanks! Your belly is so cute! I see definite growth.

klav (and Wrighty), thanks about the crib. Aside from liking the style, we also liked that Baby Bargains gives the company an A rating. BTW, the prices on Baby's Dream furniture is very reasonable. The crib was $300 and the dresser was $280. We were very pleased with the quality, too. You should check them out.

Lizard, hope you like your new doc!

klav, most infant car seats go to around those same weights/lengths. Even taking that into consideration, Baby Bargains suggests getting an infant seat and then upgrading to a convertible later because of the better fit. But like I said in my previous post, if you want to use a convertible car seat from birth, check the Car Seat thread in Parenting as well as Baby Bargains for specific recommendations. Some of them fit newborns much better than others, regardless of what the car seat maker says in it's weight/height guidelines.

Mkvh, what a great site!! I think just in the 2 seconds I spent browsing it since you posted, I have picked both boy and girl bedding!! I love the girl one that I am covetting and it is on sale, but I don't find out the sex until 3/28!! And I know it will be all gone by then...sigh, or we'll be having a boy. ;)

Happy Birthday by the way and I hope your headaches are gone for good.

Infant Car Seats are only for rear facing and only go up to approx. 22 inches/29 lbs, or thereabouts, depending on the manufacturer.

Convertible Car Seats are rear facing for infants and then convert to forward facing for babies over a year. They generally go up to at least 40 lbs, although some brands/models go higher.

That one you posted is an Infant Car Seat.

BTW, the SnugRide (the one that comes with all Graco Travel Sytems) is Baby Bargain's top pick. It gets an excellent rating.

Hi ladies,

Good news! My midwife just called to say my AFP came back within normal limits, so I have no additional risk for downs, neurol tube disorders or trisomy (i can't remember if it's 13 or 18). It's a relief to hear, but also not a guarantee.

Makena - I was also told no prep for my u/s. Very glad about that one.

Car seats - I figure you've got to get the convertable anyways, so whether they go into it a little sooner or a little later than you intended doesn't really matter. We are probably getting the Snugride too, although I was looking at the Primo Viaggo's.

I'm so jealous someone here was on the beach. We are covered in snow today!!

quick post re: infant seats -

we had the prima viaggio infant seat that locked onto the base in the car. i can't remember the height requirement for it, but my son was 23" tall and almost 9#'s at birth, so he outgrew it at 4mos. (by height max requirement and he was just too big for it at that point to be comfortable)

the britax roundabout goes to 40#'s (i think) and the marathon to 60#'s, so he's been in the marathon since 4mos. (we decided to spend the extra $$ to be able to use it to 60#'s). i wouldn't have ever started him in this convertible seat as a nb because it just seems like it would have been enormous for him those 1st couple of months.

will be back later...

oh, and the other brilliant thing about starting with the infant seat (vs convertible) is the ability to pop out the seat and run errands with your baby in the seat without having to pull him/her out to transfer to carrier or stroller and then transfer again when back at the car.

mmisabel- Yay for a good AFP results!

Carseats/travel systems- We are getting a Graco travel system. We have compared it to the prices of other strollers and infant seats and I think the travel system is only 10 bucks more than an infant seat so you might as well get them both for an extra $10 and have something for the first few months. We'll have to get a larger seat later anyways.
I saw some nice Eddie Bauer car seats at BigLots of all places for like $30. I will probably get that later.

~~~~~~
I saw my friend and her lil boy this weekend. She is going to give me all of his old 6-12 months clothes and a ton of his old toys and bouncers that she no longer needs just in case ;) I can't believe how big he is. He's the same age as the lil boy that I saw last weekend and it is crazy to see how different they are. I hate to say it but you can really tell the difference that good parenting makes. I mean I know that all children develop at different rates but they are with in weeks of eachother and one is walking, speaking, feeding himself, eating solids, investigating his suroundings and the other is still barely crawling and completely bottle fed (doesn't even hold his own bottle). It's the difference between a baby and a toddler- you know.
Thanks, sunchaser...I tried to slide that in there, but you caught me!
Infant Seats--Not only does BB rate the Snugride the highest, but our local police force has an "expert" trained in carseat safety who will come to your house and install your carseat and spend about an hour with you discussing best practices, and the Snugride is his one-and-only! He basically told my husband not to consider anything else for an infant. So Snugride it will be. From there on out, he recommends the Britax. I forget which one specifically, though. Maybe either.
So , somehwere over the weekend, I fell in love with a name that I never heard before. It would be perfect if we have a girl (even though I still think it's a boy).
It goes great with the chosen middle name --and has wonderfull alliteration with our last name.
So, I just decided to google it to see if I could find its history and translations...instead I found out that it is the name of *the world's biggest porn star!*
Now, what do I do--what would you guys do?
I liking this discussion on Car seats. l have been reading Baby Bargains but we haven't gone into a store yet to check out strollers/travel system.
Had some drama this weekend - l woke up on Sunday and went to the bathroom and it turned out l was bleeding. I called the doctor's office and the doctor on call told me to monitor and if it kept on bleeding to come on. Around noon, it turned into brown blood and l was bleeding less.
I went into the doctors today and it seems that everything is ok. They checked my cervis - nothing, did a sonogram with the "magic wand" and everything looks good. They don't really know what caused it but everything is looking good. My doctor sent me home to relax for the day and monitor the bleeding.
Has this happened to anyone?
While we are on the car seat topic, my hospital offers a car seat class for $10. They show you how to install the car seat in YOUR car and offer tips. Plus, they also give me you a Cosco brand car seat if you take the class. It'll be nice to have a spare for my sister who is will be watching my child.
Amaye How terrifying! I have not had any bleeding or spotting so far but that is not a good sign coming from my body. I'm glad everything is ok. I know some women bleed randomly in their pregnancy and everything turns out fine.
maryanne If we have a girl her initials will be KY. I figure by the time she is old enough to get teased about it she'll have a witty comeback and her self-esteem will be pretty in tact. Plus how many people do you come across today know the names of random porn stars from the 70's? ETA:So, I just decided to google it to see if I could find its history and translations...instead I found out that it is the name of *the world's biggest porn star!* I will tell you now that she is not the worlds biggest porn star. Jenna Jameson is and would have a much bigger recognition factor. I would say among the vast number of porn stars she is pretty obscure in terms of name recognition. Plus it is just the first name. Looking on one of the websites when her name is entered, Jessica's, Julia's, Isabella's, Alexandra's, etc would all have the same issue as Kianna. And Kianna is so beautiful it would be a shame not to use it because of some random porn star.
makena That sounds like an awesome class and deal. It is always important to learn how to install them yourselves.
cpbride Thanks for posting that link! I added it to my bookmarks.
Baby Names This site is awesome too NameVoyager (http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html).
Baby Movement I am 90% sure it is the baby I am feeling. It is a very subtle feeling that feels like wiggling in there. It is a combination of slow moving gas bubbles and a tightening feeling (like a slow constant muscle cramp or twinge). They seem more intense when I am driving and my non-maternity pants are cutting into my belly. It is very cool and VERY bizarre.
I passed my triple screen too!
I'm so far behind I don't think I'll ever catch up.
I have a question to add to the carseat discussion - has anybody looked at the Britax Decathlon or Boulevard with the infant inserts? I'd like to go straight to the convertible seat but am concerned the straps will be too loose. I was wondering if the infant inserts placed the strap positions closer to that of an infant seat.
In other news, we're registered for daycare. It was a little odd to register before I'm even showing, but the director said if we waited much longer that we would be placed on the waiting list.
How long did it take to get back the triple screen results?
I called my dr today and she said I was probably ok since they usually contact you within four days if there is a problem (it has been more than that) but that it takes longer to get a "normal" letter. I would rather know definitively and am wondering how long they will take. Thanks in advance.:)
maryanne I will tell you now that she is not the worlds biggest porn star. Jenna Jameson is and would have a much bigger recognition factor.
ITA -- My first thought when you posted that the name you had picked out was a porn star name was, "They're naming their kid Jenna Jameson?" :D
I don't think you'll have problems with Kianna.
Baby Movement: I don't think I've felt it yet. The sensation that Soulmate described does make me wonder a little, though -- The other night, it was me, DH, and our (rather large) cat all piled into the bed. We somehow ended up all scrunched up with me on my side and my belly smushed up against the cat (who was smushed up between DH and me). I woke up in the middle of the night and turned over to get more comfortable, and as soon as I moved I felt the weirdest sensations -- like abdominal spasms of some sort. I think it was too high up to be the baby, but I've never experienced anything like it before. Weird, huh?
I've also noticed I can do this neat thing (and by "neat", I mean gross and guaranteed to freak out DH) when my stomach is full, now. If I eat a decent-sized meal or drink a lot of liquids, then take a deep breath, I hear this crazy squishing noise like there's not enough room for both my stomach and my lungs. I can do it over and over again. Weird...
maybebabyHow long did it take to get back the triple screen results? I had blood drawn on Wed. and they called with the results on Friday but told me it would take approx. 4 days. Triple Screen - Same here, my doctor said it would take "about a week" to get the results back, depending on how busy the lab was. They didn't say whether they'd call if everything was normal, though. I figure I'll mention it during my new doc appt. tomorrow and see if they can find out the results when they transfer my records.
Amaye - I hope everything is going ok. What a scare.
movement - Also getting that fluttery, gassy, almost crampy sensation once in a while. Not sure what the heck it is!
Maryanne - I think Kianna is very pretty, it sounds Hawaiian to me. By the time she's old enough to know what a porn star is no one will have ever heard of that one. If you like the name, go with it.
Love the new thread.
Am really busy with the start of the semester, but I want to comment on the triple screen wait:
I had the early genetic test done, which had a blood component as well as u/s. The literature told us a week, and the doctor who did the u/s (offsite from my OB) said I'd have the results in about 2-3 business days, which would have made it a Monday or Tuesday. I called my doctor's office on Tuesday afternoon and they said they had nothing. I had an appt with my endo on Thursday and asked when I went there. I got a hard copy, and I was a bit annoyed that the lab faxed my OB's office the results on Saturday, two days after the test was done and 3 days before I called. They were closed, but there was a note that the results were received on Monday and to enter them into my record. There was another note that said they were entered on Wednesday.
Even though I had asked to be called when the results were available, no one did. Not to mention, when I called on Tuesday, the results were there, just not in my record. Um, what would it have taken to go see if the results were actually in, just that they hadn't been entered yet?
Maybebaby--I guess my point is that maybe you should call again and ask to check to make sure that your results aren't just lying in someone's Inbox or waiting to be entered in the computer system.
Triple Screen- My doctor told me reguardless that we will go over the results at my next appointment. He likes to do everything in person that way he has the time to answer all of my questions and I'm not left freaking out until I have my next appointment.
I told him about how my last doctor told me over the phone that I had a miscarriage and since then I have been terrified of getting phone calls from the doctor's office. So I think that is the main reason that they don't call me with results.
Lolavix
01-24-2006, 10:32 AM
Lil_Mrs--I can understand wanting to hear results in person, but if your next appointment isn't for several weeks, to me, it is better to get the news on the phone. My endo appointment really was coincidental and if I had to wait until my next OB appointment, it would have been 2.5 weeks. (The test was January 5 and my OB appointment was yesterday.) It might be a matter of personal preference--I think I'd be freaking out if I had to wait that long for what turned out to be good news.
Quickie post to let you guys know (if you didn't already) that Motherhood.com is having a HUGE sale. I know a lot of ladies hate their return policy, but they've got business casual type pants with and without panels for 9.99 and 14.99. Just an FYI!
Other than that, I unfortunately have nothing else to report.
mkvh - Thanks for the tip!! I was planning on heading there tonight, since I could use another couple pairs of work pants. I have a favorite pair of non-maternity blue slacks that I'm wearing today but desperately need to find replacements for. They're unbuttoned and half unzipped (with a long top of course, LOL).
Linnybubbles,
Thanks for the Gap coupon! Although I did not see the code to use it online, it appears to be only for in store use. Unfortunately, there are no Gap Maternity Stores near me.
mkvh,
Thanks for the heads up I'll have to check out what they have at those prices how could you go wrong.
Triple Screen:
I have yet to have mine done so I'm not sure at this time how long it takes to get the results or how mine will be delivered. Although I'm paying attention to everyone else so I can ask good questions when I go. Nothing like being well informed.
Movement:
I have not really felt anything yet, unless the mild crampy feeling I had this afternoon for a couple of minutes was something.
NameVoyager:
Thanks, for this link. What a neat website... I have yet to pickout a possible boys name so maybe this will help.
14 weeks, 1 day
Thanks for the coupon and info Linnybubbles and mkvh! Looks like i have some shopping ahead of me!
Babystyle has a lot of stuff on sale right now too, with free shipping over $50! I just spent about $100 there last weekend and got some great stuff.
Not into Maternity yet, but it will only be a matter of days...can't BELIEVE how much I have grown in the last 2 weeks...havn't taken an updated belly shot yet, must do that!
Movement- Not yet.
AFP results- With Mia I didn't get results until my appointment that followed the blood draw. They said they would have called within a week had there been anything to worry about.
Movement: I haven't felt anything yet either but I don't expect to for a while!
Maternity clothes: I just ordered a bunch of sale stuff last week from a few different places. I don't *have to* wear it (actually I'm not wearing any maternity stuff today), but it's a lot more comfortable!
My husband has started talking to the baby. He looks directly at my stomach and very loudly says things like, "HELLO. I CREATED FOUR EXCEL SPREADSHEETS TODAY. BYE BYE." :rolleyes:
Well, I think that I finally felt some movement. I am pretty sure! Things have been so busy, I have been away from the boards for a while. Not much to report here. We took Drew to Sea World on Saturday and had a blast. He just laughed and laughed at the penguins. It was so cute. My next ob appointment is next Thursday. I will have my blood draw for the AFP test.
Family-Whoo, hoo! My sister just got engaged and will be coming out to visit from Boston next week. She is coming to celebrate my 30th birthday and to see Drew, of course! She is planning her wedding for Nov. 4th. It will be good incentive for me to get back in shape after this baby!!!
Linnybubbles- Thanks so much for the coupon. I will have to do some shopping!!!!
Glad to hear that everyone's pregnancies are going well!
Prayers-On another note, something has really been bothering me for the last week. My son, Drew, who is 13 months old, has to have surgery in two weeks. He will be under anesthesia for 1 hour. I am really petrified and not handling it well. Please say some prayers for us that all goes well. I am really really scared and nervous.
'Mia'smama I heart babystyle. Ordered a bunch of stuff from there with an extra 20% off and free shipping over $75 (and free diaper bag over $100). Hopefully it will fit well!
Got the triple marker screen back and it was NORMAL. Yay. Had to call several places to track down the results, but at least I don't have to wait for the letter. Thanks to everybody who responded to my question about how long it took.
Rande I will keep your son in my thoughts. I am sure it will be over before you know it and that they will take very good care of him.
I received my Snoogle today, and I think I am going to love it. I tried it out for a few minutes after I got home from work. I especially like kind of "hugging" it with my tummy facing into the "C" shape, my head on the top curved part, and the bottom curved part between my knees.
I took a 16 week belly shot today (wonderful quality as always, but my DH thinks it's weird to take pictures of my belly, so I don't bother asking him to do it):
Movement: No movement yet, I'm too early for that, I think.
rande Your baby will definatly be in my thoughts. I can imagine how scary any sort of medical procedure will be.
ShelbyMay Looking good!
I did not want to have a animal themed nursery & I happened upon some baby bedding that I absolutely love. I saw it first in a magazine & then looked up the website. It is by Caden Lane.
This is the one I love for a boy:
And this one for a girl:
Can't_Wait - beautiful bedding! Thanks for the link!
Rande - hope the surgery goes well! Sending you all my best wishes.
LinnyBubbles - thanks for the great coupon!!
ShelbyMay - looking great!! I love seeing the progression
- - - - -
I felt REALLY weird today, I had this weird cramp down in my lower right side that refused to go away. I got really hot all of a sudden during my 6th period class - I had a small group of girls up near me working on something when it hit, and they all got really nervous. They said I turned sheet white and looked dizzy - I had some water and got through the rest of my day as best I could. And then, of course, my husband turns a quick run to Home Depot into a 3 hour excursion.
Oh well, I went to Target and got a couple of new bras - Heaven!! I am in HEAVEN!! I even threw away the one I was wearing in the store because it was so uncomfortable. I bought some Liz Lange stuff tonight - I hope it fits because all my stuff from Gap that I ordered is too long.
movement - I swear I felt the baby move a couple of times in the past week. It has been really exciting, but I haven't said anything yet. It really could be gas, but who knows! :o
Rande,
Hope that your sons surgery goes well! Sending lots of positive vibes your way.
Good morning ladies!
So I am at that weird point where most of my regular clothes are too tight and tops are now too short, but maternity clothes just look ridiculous (even smalls). I have a few pairs of pants left I can get into and have worn 2 pairs of maternity pants with longer tops that I have. I refuse to wear the maternity tops yet! Maybe another few weeks......
Rande- Good luck with your son. I am a pediatric nurse and am always amazed at how well the little ones do after surgery and anesthesia. Most bounce back amazingly fast.
So I found out FIL has shingles. I touched the rash, stupidly. Being the only medical people in the family that's what they have me do! Anyways, my doc says myself and the baby aren't at risk since I've had chickenpox. BUT, there is a small chance I could get shingles since I came in direct contact with the rash. There is also pertussis (whooping cough) going around where I work, so I'm bombarded with germs!!
They said I turned sheet white and looked dizzy - I had some water and got through the rest of my day as best I could. And then, of course, my husband turns a quick run to Home Depot into a 3 hour excursion.
That sounds very similar to the pain I had, that turned out to be round ligament pain. It's TERRIBLE and made me feel really nauseous. My OB said that if it doesn't go away right away, it's OK to take a Tylenol if you need it. I've had it happen twice so far, and each time it's taken about an hour to go away completely (haven't tried tylenol yet).
mmisabel - I haven't worn any maternity tops yet either... they look ridiculous on me, and nearly all my tops still work fine. I do have some shorter tops that fit, but don't cover the top of the maternity pants, though. :(
rande - I'll say a prayer for you and your son... I'm sure the surgery will go wonderfully!
It has been SO BUSY at work.... ugh. I don't really like giving out the place that I work at, but I'll say that if you see a news story today about a huge buyout between 2 online brokerage firms, I work at the one that's buying the other one. :D I imagine it will be all over the networks today. It's very exciting for us and it should be a fun day.
Have a great day ladies!
rande, I'll be thinking about your son.
nuhmah, that symptom doesn't sound fun. :(
Can't_Wait, we have a King bed, and that pillow does take up quite a bit of room.
ShelbyMay, nice progression!
maybebaby, glad your results were normal. :)
Movement: It's sporadic. Some days I feel it, some days I don't.
Maternity Tops: I find the t-shirt type tops from ON to fit quite well. The buttons down shirts are still too loose, though.
Bras: I need new ones. Even my bras from when I had gained weight are uncomfortable.
Rande--My 25 month old DD had anaesthesia last week for removal of a huge birthmark and I was scared, too. It's not easy at any time for a parent when your DC has to have surgery. What helped was having very good doctors, who explained everything to us. Let me know if you have any questions. If it helps, my DD recovered from the anaesthesia very well. When we got home, which was probably about 3 hours from when she first was given the anaesthesia, she was back to her normal self, wheeling her shopping cart around the house. :)
Mmisabel--:confused: Not sure why your touching the shingles would cause the Varicella virus that you carry (because you had chickenpox) to reactivate. I am a virologist (or was, in my past life at another job) and that really doesn't make sense to me. You should be protected because you've had the virus. You should also be protected from pertussis if you've had the vaccine.
I'm still pretty crazy with the new semester, but I'm trying to read along.
Rande- Your son is in my thoughts and prayers. Hope all the surgery goes well.
ShelbyMay- Cute belly:)
Lizard- I have had the same pain on and off. Sometimes when I turn over too quickly in bed.
Cait wait- I love that bedding. Very modern and cute at the same time. I will have to go and check it out at a store near me. Thanks for the link:)
Sunchaser- Don't feel bad about not taking pictures of yourself. I haven't yet either.
I am leaving next week for a sales meeting in toronto and have nothing that fits anymore. Hopefully I can take advantage of the sales at gap and babystyle and find some cute stuff to buy for the trip.
Not much is going on with me. Just nesting a little bit and cleaned out my closet of clothes that I no longer wear. Will give them to the VA. They come and pick up clothes and other items for donation.
Also I made up pregnancy announcements to mail out to our friends and relatives that live far away. I will post a picture of them soon.
Hope you all have a great day:)
I did notice they were having a sale at Babystyle, I love some of their items but wondering how they fit. Do you find that they fit true to their size chart?
It actually runs a little on the small side. I am a size 2 normally and they say buy a Petite if you are normally a 2-4. That's what I buy, but by the end of my pregnancy with Mia, the pants were really snug and by belly was hanging out of a lot of the tops. I ended up buying a few things in size small (which they reccommend for sized 4-6) around 32 weeks or so...and I only gained 28 lbs. with Mia.
Shelbymay- Great belly shots! What software did you use for the pregression? I can never figure out how to do that!
Can't Wait- Love, Love, Love that bedding...especially the boy version. I'm with you on the no animals/theme front.
klav- BOthe the Geko and Chamelion strollers are the newer models of the Bugaboo Frog that is so popular with the Hollywood Mamas. I live in LA and I see them everywhere...they do look pretty cool and they really turn on a dime. I think with all of the the attachements (for the carseat etc.) they run close to $1000. I personally could never justify spending that much on a stroller- especially because I knew we would have 2 kids pretty close in age and will probably want/need a double stroller at some point.
I posted this over in the Nov. 04 Mommies thread, but since we arn't discussing names with anyone IRL, I need a little feedback! You know how when you write something (a paper, a speech, whatever) and then read it over and over, you can't tell if it makes sense/sounds good anymore? That's how I'm feeling with names. It took FOREVER to decide on Mia (not until she was born) and now I feel like we've discussed names so much (since my pregnancy with her, so for 2 years or so now) that I can't step back and really "hear" the names with a clear head...this probably makes no sense to anyone, but indulge me, will ya? :rolleyes:
As with Mia, we won't decide for sure on the name until he/she is born, and won't possible announce names to friends/family until the birth. I WILL ask your opinions though because I'm really having a hard time finding names that compliment Mia's! I will welcome ANY feedback!
Girl possibilities (middle name will be Bridget after DH's grandmother):
Tess (I think Mia and Tess are super cute together)
Olivia (not a huge fan of the full name b/c it's so popular, but LOVE "Liv")
Annika (Dh isn't too sure of this one)
Morgan (Mia and Morgan are pretty cute together but don't know if I want another "M" name)
Samantha (would call her Sam- although it might be too "plain" with Mia?)
Ava (SOOOO popular though- might ditch it even though it sounds nice with Mia)
Current boy possibilties - they keep chaing though (middle name will be John or James after DH's Dad)
Gavin (my current fav, but don't know that it "goes with" Mia)
Nolan (still love this and it was a possibility for Mia, had she been a boy)
Matthew (simple and classic like Mia...but again "M" and "M"?)
Will (I love it, DH is so-so)
Chase (Another one I really like, but might be too "Cute"...DH isn't sure)
Wow, I've been out of town for several days and missed a lot!
can't wait: LOVE that bedding, thanks for posting!
mia's mommy: just the other day the name Gavin popped into my head and I really like it...doesn't seem too popular but not "out there" either. I also love Ava but it seems it has become super popular lately.
confessions: drink a cup of full strenght coffee now and again, am not so good with remembering the prenatal every day, and definitely eat my fair share of blue and feta cheese. Guess no one's perfect!
baby gear: my sil's little girl just moved into her "big girl" bed so I'm taking her crib...it's beautiful and free so I'm happy with that. I took the mattress also but just read in BB last night that you should NOT re-use mattresses even within the same household. Seems a little overly cautious but it was enough to scare me into wanting to buy a new one.
Car seats/strollers: I think we're going to go with the perego pliko3 and probably the matching car seat. I've heard great things about the stroller not so great about the car seat but I'm hoping the changes made to the 2006 models will make it all worthwhile. Luckily, mil wants to buy the stroller for us so the extra cost will not be too much of a burden.
update: had an appointmen last Thurs and everything looked good! Baby's heartrate was in the 140's so I asked the dr about the old wives tale and he just laughed and said "no way!" So I guess we'll have to wait until our u/s on FEB 17. Had blood drawn for the quad test and should have the results back any day. I figure no news is good news so I'm not too stressed about that. Also got my flu shot. Even though it's a little late in the season dr thought it was a good idea since I start teaching again next week and will be around lots of germs.
movement: nothing that I can say for sure just yet. Hoping to feel something "real" soon thought!
Long post, sorry! Hope everyone is doing well!
Mia's Mama - I got a cool baby name book from the library called The Baby Name Wizard by Laura Wattenberg. She lists names, whether they are becoming more/less popular, nicknames, and possible brother and sister names that "go" with each name. It might help you find something to complement Mia. I'll look when I go home for lunch.
update: nothing really new to report here. i just can't believe how much trash food i crave. it's unbelievable. all i wanted with my last pregnancy was giant platters of fruit, welch's grape juice bars and orange crush. now, all i want is chips, soda, cookies, blah. i'm giving in a little but not so much that i'll look like a giant cow in 5 months. i'm hoping this is a passing thing and go away soon. on a good note, the other thing i crave aside from junk is salad's, so at least i have that going for me.
next appt is tomorrow for the triple screen, then 2/07 for the 18w ultrasound. we'll see if there really is a little boy in there. feeling great and thank god have the energy to keep after my toddler. i do absolutely pass out by 9p though. and, i have been feeling the baby in the evening after dinner. like a little worm crawling.
babystyle-just spent alot of money online last month when they sent the add'l 20% off + free shipping card. i couldn't resist. i picked up some nb essentials, cotton blankets, maternity yoga pants...a total steal. i like alot of their stuff and find that the maternity stuff runs pretty true to size. i'm a size 6 and order small and everything fits well.
maternity clothes-i'll need to pick up a few more things for summer. i love having summer babies cause i lived in skirts and tanks/tees with finn. it's hard finding cute maternity clothes.
rande-how exciting about movement! thinking about you with your son's surgery. i'm sure they will take excellent care of him.
mia's mama-tess is super cute! but, not sure that it flows w/bridget. i like olivia bridget. my niece's name is olivia and they call her vivi. i also love liv. for boys, i've always liked gavin and i LOVE will. unfortunately, it sounds really funny with our last name so it's out of the running for me. i love james for a middle name and it's actually up as a contender for ours as a 1st name but i don't know how to get around "jim" or "jamie" as nicknames. i would just always want him to be james. we have a list of about 6 boy/girl names we like and feel the same way as you. we didn't tell any friend's or family his name until he was born. i loved that.
shelbymay-great progression! i was so good about doing that with my 1st. need to get on the ball this time around!
can't wait-great crib bedding! i feel the same way. we have a distressed white crib and i wanted bedding that was crisp & simple so i got the skirt in a stripe from house inc.
http://notooshabby.com/images/house_52.jpg
and a white puffy bumper from shabby chic. i alternate between the pb lt. blue and celery green crib sheets. i just wasn't into all the typical boy stuff and primary colors that are everywhere you look. funny though, the big-boy bed we like is dark red!
nuhmah-i'm so jealous you have new bras. i desperately need to get more, but despise bra shopping. the best ones i have ever found are at nordstrom...need to get over there. hope you haven't had any more dizzy spells.
klav-i just can't begin to justify spending the money on those bugaboos, not to mention they are everywhere here in los angeles and it's like a status symbol which makes me want one even less. dana_b has one and i think she mentioned that they aren't quite worth the money spent.
mrs2b2003-preg announcements? how cute!! definately post. i'm right there with you on the nesting. can't figure out if it has anything to do with the pregnancy or if it's just that time of year. i am on a mission with everything house-related though!
kellyann-how exciting that it is going well with ryan in the bb bed! yes, we'll be needing a double stroller and i need to start figuring out which one is best suited for us. don't know if a side-by-side or front-to-back is better..? finn will be 2 as well, so we're in the same boat.
Yeah, and it makes me think of that song "Beep, Beep" (a Dr. Dimento song) that sings about a Nash Rambler. :)
Thanks to everyone for your concern about the cramps - I am feeling MUCH better today. I slept well last night - maybe it was the knowledge that I would have something to wear today! :D Liz - I will keep the tylenol in mind for when it happens again. It wasn't unbearable, just not something i wanted to experience in front of my 6th graders (especially when they so impressionable at this age; I don't want them to think that being pregnant is a bad thing).
I'm out of town for a few days this weekend - I have to chaperone a few of my students at an Honors Choir event. It will be good to get away from the house for a few days...we did a fresh crop of demo this weekend and the plaster dust is finally settled enough that I can stop wearing a dust mask.
Nuhmah - Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Just a quick drive-by.... we saw a new doc today and he is SO MUCH BETTER than our previous one! His bedside manner is fabulous and it's a total 180 from my old doc. We are having our records transferred pronto. It was mostly a chatty appointment, and he also did a quick doppler on the h/b... 140 BPM this time. A little slower than normal, especially considering I had some caffeine today, heh.
Also, my BIG ULTRASOUND is on 2/22, and our regular monthly appointment is right afterwards. I'll be 21 weeks then... I was hoping they'd do it earlier, but that's OK - we are finding out the sex but we're not in a huge hurry.
Yes, please, I'd love to check it out, too. I never thought about having to "match" DD's name with that of a sibling, but I read about it in one of the baby naming books we have and it sort of makes sense. DH and I still haven't talked at all about names for this child, although I have my own little lists going. ;)
I so don't have time for shout outs right now... I'm such a slacker! I'll come by later this week and catch up :)
I just wanted to update on my appt today. I've started my rotation and met with another Dr than usual today(there are 4). She was nice, but I waited for her FOREVER. My regular Dr. is very prompt and does not like to keep people waiting-- guess I'm just spoiled! In any case, the appt was uneventful for the most part. I declined on the screening offer (the quad, I believe) and she found the heartbeart right way (no anxiety attacks this time!). She said the HB sounded "great!". Then she wanted to discuss my weight. Apparently she was concerned because I gained 8lbs since the last appt-- but I pointed out to her that I had lost weight the last appt and was really only up about 4 lbs from my normal weight. Once she saw that, she was Ok (I weighed in today @ 152-- up from 144 from the last appt-- although my average weight is 148). It's so sad to see the scale go up!
After that I scheduled the big u/s for Feb. 20th @ 8:30am (first appt of the day!). It's with the same Dr. I saw today. Woo-hoo-- I'm so excited!! (I'm also so jealous of you guys with 18w u/s appts!).
The book is called: The Baby Name Wizard by Laura Wattenberg. I just checked it out from the library but I really like it - I might buy a copy.
01-25-2006, 03:22 PM
Emmjay--Thanks. I just put it on hold in our library system. Evidently it is quite popular as all copies (this is a multitown library system. There are probably 50 libraries and it looked like about 10 copies of the book) are all out or on hold. I hope I don't have to wait too long for it.
I love Morgan & Samantha for girls & love Gavin & Nolan for a boy.
MMK Did they say why you shouldn't re-use a mattress? That seems weird to me.
mkvhThat bedding is very much along the lines of the ones I have picked out so far! Score for the non-theme folks!! Any idea on how pricey? You'll have to post some of the other bedding you found... I am always on the hunt for non-themed bedding. The price isn't that great- I saw it for $450 at the 2 places I looked online. You get the bumper, the skirt, a sheet, & a blanket. My DH thinks it is extravagant to pay that much for bedding but I could do it, especially when non-themed bedding is so hard to find!
Lil_Mrs.- DD"s name is pronounced Me-a like the soccer player, Mia Hamm...it's what sold DH on the name...he totally wants her to be a soccer player...or at least a tom-boy. She's such a girly girl already though...I guess she'll be a girly-girl soccer player ;)
Thank you girls all so much for the kind words and well wishes. I am feeling better about the surgery already!!
Cece- I love the name Liam!!!!!!
Mia's Mama- How funny, we have several of the same names picked out. I love Olivia, Tess, and Ava even though they are so popular. Also, Gavin and Nolan are two of my fave for boys. James is our son's middle name and I love it! I almost wish that I did not use it for a middle name since there is a chance that we could have another boy and we are having a hard time agreeing. My husband is very anti-trendy names for boys so we will surely have something very classic-ie. our son's name is Andrew (Drew) James. Oooh, I also love the name Mia! Lately, I have been thinking about Kiera for a girl. It is not quite so popular. What does everyone think?
My sister is getting married at a country club just north of Boston, where I grew up. We will be headed to Boston in April, end of September, and November for the actual. Has anyone ever traveled with a 9 week old?????
Emmjay- Thanks for the tip on The Baby Name Wizard. I will have to get that!
Maternity jeans- Anyone know where I can get a good pair of maternity jeans? I am a size 2/4. All the maternity jeans that I have tried are way too big. I am looking for something to wear and fit right now and that I can wear again after the baby is born. Any ideas???
Lil_Mrs_0702
Okay- I like Mia and Samantha together the most for girls. I agree that Ava is becoming a little too popular for my taste right now. It was one of my first pics until I looked up the popularity of it.
For the boys I like them all but Will and Chase. I just think of Chase as a girls name and when I put Will and Mia together it turns into Willmia in my head. Matthew is my top pick though to go with Mia.
rande - good luck for your son's surgery! I'm sure everything will be just fine! :)
Also, I'm right there with you on the wedding situation. My best friend (he is like another brother to me) is getting married 4 weeks after my due date in Napa, CA (I live in Denver). I am so stressed out about this, but I think I am going to try to go if the baby comes on time. Oh, and we'll be staying with my sister who will be 9 months pregnant (and she has a 3-yr old) at that point! I'm probably insane but it makes me sick to think that I won't be able to go.
You will have a longer flight than I will, but I have read all of the infant travel threads and it seems like several people took their 8 - 9 week old babies on planes. You gotta do what you gotta do! At least that's what I'm telling myself. ;)
I'm way behind. I have to schedule my ultrasound and AFP screening. Oh, and my daughter's 2 year WBV.
Names: We won't be discussing names until we find out the gender bc we usually despise eachother's names. Right now, all of the names I like either sound funny with our last name or doesn't go with Taya (DD). mia's mama, I love all the names you chose--especially, Tess. I love it w/ Mia. I love Gavin & Nolan, too. Oh, btw, we're hoping Taya is a soccer player, too. :)
My lower back is killing me. I even wore my practical shoes the past 2 days, and it's not getting any better. :( And if I drop something on the floor, I can just forget about retrieving it before DH gets home -- Bending over is the worst.
Also, is anyone else having trouble with sitting? Lately, it seems like even the cushiest chair is uncomfortable on my tailbone.
Weddings & recovery time: I, too, will have a good friend's wedding to attend not too long after the due date. The wedding date is not set in stone yet, so I am hoping they go with something in October at the earliest. I think they were discussing dates ranging from August to October. If it's an October wedding, the baby will likely be somewhere around 3 months old. It wouldn't be so bad, but it is in a city about 4 hours from here, and I think we would have to leave our baby here with my mom. I could pump by then, right?
Snoogle: Love it. I don't know if I'll ever go back to just a regular pillow. DH said it was a little crowded in our queen-size bed (also due to the cat's decision to sleep sideways between DH and the Snoogle :rolleyes: ), but he will just have to deal with it.
Shelby, my lower back was terrible all last week. I went in to the OB on MOnday and she just wanted to rule out a urinary track infection etc which she did. I also gained like 9 1/2 lbs in 3 weeks which could be it too. If it bothers you for a few more days it may be worth checking out!
rande, I travelled with Ryan alot when he was under 4 months. Its the easiest time to travel with them! They sleep all the time and Ryan was awesome on a plan ride. Now the last time I took him at 14 months was a disaster!!!!!!!!! The hardest part would be (for me) nursing in public cause I would think you may have to. I didnt BF but based on what I did that would be what would worry me the most.
Speaking of BF, any of you taking a class. I didnt with Ryan or Connor but I planin it this time. Ryan had a severe milk allergy and was on Allimentum formula which is like $9 a bottle! (So almost $300 a month!) He was also on it til be was 20 months!
mkvh You'll have to post some of the other bedding you found... I am always on the hunt for non-themed bedding.
mystikal: so jealous of your 18 wk u/s...anxiously waiting to hear the results!
can't wait: re: mattresses...yes, baby bargains has this little section in it discussing why NOT to re-use a mattress (even if you're using it for a second child in the same home). I'm generally not the type to be overly concerned about anything but something about being pregnant has turned me a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to safety. The book suggested there MAY be some link between re-using mattresses and sids. The studies they were citing suggested it could either be due to the mattress itself or the bacteria that can get trapped in the mattress.
Does that sound crazy to anyone else? Based on this "maybe" would you never consider re-using the mattress?
jewamese: we're not really talking names until we find out the gender either. As dh says, it's hard enough to think of one name let alone trying to figure out one for each sex!
Back pain - I have had back problems for the past couple of years and I have had two instances in the past week that really hurt (sitting for a long time in the same position). I need to get over to yoga ASAP - I'm hoping that will help. If not I have a great osteopath for my main doctor and he has been great with my back.
Rande - Sending good thoughts your way for your son! Keira is on our name list as well for a girl. Our DD's name is Kylie so I think it would be cute.
Mystikal- Congrats on your girl!
I had my appointment on Tuesday and they took blood for the AFP. I was a little worried that a new nurse would be drawing the blood, but I didn't even feel the needle go in and it was over before I knew it. And no bruising so she did a good job. I am finally up 1lb from my beginning weight, so the doctor was happy about that. But after the stomach flu I had yesterday, I think I may have reversed that. I also threw up some blood, but it only happened once and today I feel fine, so I think it was a fluke. I also have to call to schedule my big u/s for 3 weeks from now.
Our name list is:
Keira Anne for a girl
Ryan James for a boy - although DH is insisting that Ryan is way too popular. He picked our DD's name, so if this is a boy, then I am picking this one. We shall see in a few weeks!
weddings ~ We actually have one in April, one in June, and one in August. Should be interesting! We can drive (5 hours) to the ones in June and August, so I think we'll be able to make it, barring any complications.
-----
Had my 15 week appointment on Tuesday. I *LOVE* our new OB. She was so great. (Especially since she offered to do the "quickie" ultrasound... See above for a pic of our little cutie!) We have to see everyone in the practice at least once, but I've heard good things about all of them, so I am confident we chose the right practice.
I've decided to get the quad screen, which was offered to us. So, I need to get blood drawn next week sometime. We also made arrangements for the BIG ultrasound, and our next OB appointment, both on 2/22. I was told to drink 24 ounces of water 1 hour before the u/s. Darn. ;)
Question: What is so BIG about the BIG ultrasound if we are not finding out the sex? (We haven't officially decided yet, but I think we're leaning towards leaving it a surprise.) Is the equipment different than the regular sono machine in the OB office?
In other news, I FINALLY made it back to the gym this week... TWICE! For the first time since Thanksgiving. It's great to finally have some energy back. I also went to my second prenatal yoga class this week. Still liking it!
Haven't even thought about strollers or carseats yet. Ack!
Classes - I'd like to take a BF class, yes. I just received some pamphlets on classes yesterday, but I haven't gone through them yet. We'll probably take a New Parents class and a Infant CPR/Choking class as well.
Bedding - Man, all that stuff is sooo neat, but I think we're going to forego any bedding sets. I'm having a hard time justifying the expense when you don't use the bumpers or the comforter. I love the decorative aspect, but I'm such a tightwad, lol.
Quick vent: If my mom does not quit commenting about how "easy" her pregnancies were, I may have to kick her in her teeth. :mad: Gee, thanks, Mom -- hearing about how you "never had any morning sickness" makes me feel so much better while I gag on my lunch. And if you mention one more time how your second pregnancy went even better because you were "so busy" so that you "didn't have time to obsess over every detail"... Grrr! This is my first pregnancy, and excuse me for thinking it's a big deal.
Me too! My mom keeps asking me about bedding sets and I finally told her that I don't care about the bedding and I'll probably just get something plain because babies don't know the difference anyway (that was mostly just to push her buttons). She got quite huffy about that! ;)
ShelbyMay - first of all, this IS a huge deal! I'm sure your mom obsessed about everything with her first baby too - everyone does. Im trying to think of a snappy comeback for you but I'm terrible with those.
If it makes you feel better, my mom is also driving me crazy. Not about her pregnancies, but about everything else. Not just the bedding - she's trying to make me feel guilty that my shower is going to be at my friend's house in Connecticut b/c (according to her) my sister "wanted to plan the whole thing". OK, my sister only wants to make the invitations and doesn't want to actually plan it. Nor does she give a crap where it is. :rolleyes: The best was last night my mom said "I wish you would just find out what this baby is because there are all of these cute clothes on sale and I don't know what to get!" (huff huff). I told her it's not even physically possible to know at this poing (I'm only 14w 5d) and she responded with "Huh." Like I'm lying!
BF classes- DH and I took one before Mia was born (2 three-hour classes, if I remember correctly), and I found them quite helpful. I was lucky and had no trouble nursing- she latched on perfectly 5 minutes after she was born and there was no looking back. I weaned at 12 months.
BIG U/S- We didn't find out the gender with Mia nd the BIG U/S is still really cool. It's much longer than the regular ones (our took about 30-40 minutes) and the technician measures the limbs, checks the chambers of the heart, etc, etc. My other U/S were always like 5 minutes in length and all we looked for was the heartbeat.
Bedding- I know that are mixed safety reviews on bumper use, but we have always used one in Mia's crib, and we will for this baby too. We took them out for a week or so when she was about 8 months and started standing on them, but I would always come in and find her sleeping with arms or legs sticking out of the bars. She also kept bumping her head on the railings which would wake her up. She has had really good head and neck control from the start and as long as the bumpers are tied tightly to the crib, I wasn't concerned about suffucation. Now that her mattress is droped to the lowest level she can't get out of her crib even if she wanted to (by standing on the bumpers). We did not buy a quilt...she still doesn't use blankets. Just comfy sheets (we LOVE the chambois sheets from Pottery Barn Kids), her bumper, and a crib skirt.
Here's her crib- we went very simple, and gender neutral. Baby #2 will use the same set.
First time mommies might like the baby care classes too! My DH and I took them and he really learned alot and was very comfortable taking care of a new born after them.
We are also taking Ryan to a kiddie big sister/brother thing the hospital does.
mia's mama, cute nursery! We kept Ryan in his room and are redoing the guest room again, (we did a nursery there last year I mismantled later)
Good luck with your remodelling, we re redoing our basement the previous owner finished it really cheaply. DH is about half way and I told him it HAD to be done when this baby came. Its part play room, part media room!
Thank you so much! That is very reassuring to hear. I am hoping it will work for me too - according to my sister and mother there is an abundance of milk in our family, plus I didn't get *that* much of a reduction (about a size and a half). I hope there is a LC at the hospital with experience in breast reduction. Anyway, I appreciate you telling me such an encouraging story. :)
Mia's Mama,
Love your nursery! Is your crib from Pottery Barn Kids? How do you like it?
Look at Mia - How cute!!!
Thanks for the information on the length of the BIG u/s I was wondering since my first one was so quick.
Not much to update... I changed my BIG u/s to Thursday February 16, 2006. Have been looking to getting the Baby Bargains book that everyone raves about, where is the best place to get it?
Also for the BF classes and the like, they are offered through the hospital I plan to go to for delivery but is there anywhere else they are offered? It is so far away from where we work we'd never be able to make the classes there unless they were at 7:00 or 8:00 pm.
Nope...we got it at USA baby...love it! It's the 27601 Bergen County Crib with Drawer by Legacy.
We took our BF class at a local hospital (not the one we delivered at) and I believe it was from 6:30-9:30pm on 2 consecutive Wednesday nights.
mia's mommy: your nursery is so cute and Mia looks adorable in her crib. I swear it brought tears to my eyes thinking about taking care of something that small. I was also happy to see that you have almost the same crib that I inherited from my sister in law. I was worried it may be a little too feminin (in her house it was covered in pink and green) if we had a boy but with that gender neutral bedding, it looks just perfect for either gender!
sunchaser: I picked up my copy of baby bargains at Barnes and Noble but mostly only because I had a gift card. However, the price didn't seem to fluctuate much whether I was looking on-line or in store when shipping was factored in. Plus, I didn't want to have to wait for it. I'm an instant gratification kind of girl!
Congrats on your little girl Mystikal!!!
One of each so far!
I love the bedding Mia's Mama... The entire room is adorable! I would never dare of showing off any of our closets! That is where I hide my mess!
Sorry that I can only do a drive by. It's month end and crazy around the entire office! Doesn't help that everyone and their children are coming down with something.
Can't remember if I ever posted nursery shots, but here is Mia's room...soon to be the new baby's room, and Mia will move into a "big girl" room...we are about to begin a remodeling project that I REALLY, REALLY hope should be done by May 1. We are turning our current (tiny) kitchen into Mia's new room, and our current office into a brand spanking new kitchen and breakfast nook!
YOU'RE THE ONE!!! :) OK, that sounds ominous... I remembered seeing someone on the boards that had a nursery with a long closet, and had removed the doors and put bookcases and baskets inside. I lost the pic though and wasn't sure who it was!!! That is TOO funny. This is what I hope to do with our nursery as well, to increase space and not have to deal with the sliding doors. DH isn't thrilled with the idea, but hopefully I can sway him by showing him this photo and how nice it looks. :) I love the idea of the valance above the doors too, that really adds a nice touch.
Quick vent: If my mom does not quit commenting about how "easy" her pregnancies were, I may have to kick her in her teeth. Gee, thanks, Mom -- hearing about how you "never had any morning sickness" makes me feel so much better while I gag on my lunch. And if you mention one more time how your second pregnancy went even better because you were "so busy" so that you "didn't have time to obsess over every detail"... Grrr! This is my first pregnancy, and excuse me for thinking it's a big deal.
Wow, sounds like my mom... I certainly sympathize. Mine would say "You know, I never got morning sickness because I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 3 months along." Basically accusing me of being sick because I thought I was supposed to be sick. :( She also said that I should talk to my belly, focus on decorating the nursery and being a "good mom", and not focus on being sick, and it would go away. :rolleyes: She couldn't understand that when I was sick, I was SICK and couldn't do anything and couldn't help but focus on being sick, because I was focusing on NOT PUKING. She's kind of a nutjob though, so I try to let it roll off my back.
Thanks guys...we love the room too :) .
Lizard- Yeah, it's a pretty tiny room and taking off the closet doors opened it up so much more! We got those bookcases at Target for about $120 each and it makes her toys and books totally accessible which is great. The only problem is that we have to keep the closet pretty neat. ;) Funny to look back and see all of the gender neutral clothing...there is so much pink in her closet now!
I think I just felt the baby move for the first time! :D I was lying down in the bath tub. Lately, whenever I get in a warm bath, I get these muscle spasm-contraction feelings in my abdomen -- but I think they're way too high to be the baby. I had those tonight, but after they settled down a bit, I felt the slightest fluttering down low. I am still not 100% sure, but I felt it maybe four times while I was in the bath, and I *think* it was the baby moving. I got out of the bath and listened to the heartbeat right after that, and I could hear the baby swooshing and kicking around in there.
Okay, I could have sworn I just felt something again...
Of course, the first words out of my DH's mouth when I told him were: "Nu-uh, it's probably just gas." :rolleyes:
Joy-kill.
Rande Maternity Jeans- I have 2 pairs from Old Navy & I like them really well. They are the ones with the adjustable elastic. They say for the 1st & 2nd trimester... we'll see if I can make them last through the 3rd. But I am normally a size 2 or so & I bought size XS... they fit well everywhere. Oh, & they were cheap. One pair was like $30 & the other was only $10!!
Speaking of BF, any of you taking a class. Yep, I signed up the other day. It is $20 & I'm taking it through the hospital that I will deliver at. It is two days for 3 hours each day. I'm signed up for June.
ShelbyI am sure that you did feel the baby move! What a wonderful thing, don't let anyone tell you that it was gas!
JeansI have one pair of old navy ones with the band (demi panel) and they are pretty comfy. The pockets on the front are a little weird, but overall not too bad. My niece looked at them and said, "How come your pants have no zippers or buttons?"
Can I just say how happy I am to be in the second trimester now? I have no idea what has changed, but it just sounds good!
I know! I tried to copy and enlarge the pics, and that doesn't work very well... BTW, you should SEE the pink and brown one by Glenna Jean on that site...it's FANTASTIC. It's called Scribbles.
Shelby--How cool! You're so lucky. I keep paying really close attention, but I'm sure I'm missing it!
Open Closet--We already have that w/ built-in shelves in our nursery b/c it's the office now, and we use them for PC stuff. So excited to see how cool it looks! Our hanging clothes will be in an armoire, though, since we took the rod out of the closet to make room for more shelves.
Oh funny, I was just coming to post that I'm like 90% sure I felt the baby move last night too. I've been feeling things on and off but haven't been totally sure. But last night, I was laying in bed watching TV and I felt a couple weird thumps below my belly button. I concentrated on it and felt it again, so I put my hand where it was happening and it happened again! Then it stopped, heh. I know it's not gas and it was in a weird place for a muscle cramp (and didn't feel like that anyways), so I'm pretty sure it was the baby. So exciting!!!
I went to a friend's house last night and picked up 2 big tubs of maternity clothes. She has 4 kids (all girls!) and is done, so she offered me all her stuff. Quite a few things fit, and it's all my style so I'm very excited about it. :) One tub is all summer stuff too, so I just put that aside and will go through that once the weather is better and I'm bigger.
This weekend I'm on call for work, so I won't have a lot of free time, but when I do I plan on working on the nursery a little... I still need to do some touch-up painting in there, and I want to mess with the closet to decide how that will be set up. I'm going to try to convince DH to go out and look at cribs too.
Hi everyone!
maternity clothes - My friend also gave me a ton of stuff. I'm normally a size 8 and have found that the smaller maternity stuff fits me now. Small tops and the 1st and 2nd trimester pants. I heard Old Navy is having some excellent sales in the store right now. It's scary how big our clothes are going to need to be towards the end, though. Some of the stuff my friend gave me is down right frightening!
movement - I had a lot of pulling/mild pain near my ribcage yesterday. I really felt like maybe the baby was lodged there. Not sure if that's even possible.
We had a 2nd outbreak of Pertussis at our school. There are a bunch of pregnant women panicking. For the record, you are vaccinated against it, but it tends to wear off in early adolescence and adults are not re-vaccinated. I'm not worrying unless I start coughing a lot. Someone also asked about Shingles and Chicken Pox. Shingles only occurs in people who've had the chicken pox, it lays dormant in your body and comes out when your immune system responds the stressors. You can get chicken pox from someone with shingles if you've never had the chicken pox.
How true! I got a big suitcase full of clothes from a friend of mine this weekend, and I can't even bear to try it on. I think she is bigger than me to begin with, but WOW! None of it is really my style either, but I will definitely be holding on to it all anyway. If I do ever get that big, I will be desperate!
mmisabel I was vaccinated from chicken pox because I never had it does that still make me suceptable to shingels? ( sorry about SP I'm a bad spelller)or does the vaccination help?
Sniff ,sniff :( no one can give me any clothes.. Mt SIL is way bigger than I am and My girlfriends are in NC and about a size 2. lets just say I'm not that nor the 8 or 10 everyone talks about. use to be a 12 in high school days long gone so I'm in the same 4-6 outfits I have 4 pairs of pants and I can still wear most of my normal tops being able to hide the band on the top of my pants. so you girls are very lucky with friends who you can get stuff from!
I think if you're vaccinated against chicken pox, you shouldn't be able to get shingles. (I got shingles as a kid but have never had chicken pox. I think I'm immune to both now.)
Not sure why I'm not getting updates...I thought it was weird that no one posted yesterday!
Mystikal--Congrats on your girl!!! :) Girls are great. ;)
Reusing mattress--I remember reading that when we were looking for the mattress for DD. I'm not sure what we will do this time. I have to wonder how many families actually buy new mattresses for each child, though.
BF class--I took one two weeks before DD was born and found it worthless. To me, it is hard to learn how to BF when you don't have an actual baby in hand. There were classes at the hospital that they offered post partum (before we left) that were actually more helpful. Plus, lactation consultants and nurses helped as well.
Weddings--I know I'm in the minority, but I'd be more concerned about weddings prior to the birth. I was in much, much better shape a month after having DD than I was in the month leading up to her birth. From about week 28 on (DD was born at almost 36 weeks) I had so much swelling that I couldn't really stand for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, and the swelling went away pretty quickly post-partum. I didn't have pre-eclampsia, if anyone is wondering. Just a ton of swelling (I gained 10 pounds in 10 days, at one point.)
Big u/s--From a medical perspective, the big u/s is to look closely at how all the organs are developing. They take measurements of and careful looks at the spinal cord, brain, heart, kidneys, etc; they don't do that at these other ultrasounds. The doctor doesn't care about the sex of the baby. I think people forget the point of the big u/s because most times, they have a positive experience and a healthy baby without any structural deformities. I'm a little more sensitive to it because having diabetes makes some of these possibilities more of a reality.
Chicken pox v shingles--They are caused by the same virus. As Mmisabel mentioned, if you've had chicken pox once in your life, the second and consecutive time you 'get' it, it's called shingles. You can "get" it more than once because the virus lies dormant inside you and something stressful can set it off. If you've been vaccinated, you should be protected from getting the virus (which means you wouldn't get chicken pox or shingles).
__________________________________________________ _______________
I think I've felt the baby move a few times, which makes sense since this is a second pregnancy. It took me forever to officially "call" the movement with DD (I didn't say I felt her until 21w5d, although I think I did feel her sooner).
My big u/s is scheduled for 2/13.
I'm still wearing regular pants, but by the end of the day the button is undone. ;) I wonder how much longer I'll go until I bite the bullet.
Have any of you noticed a change in your memory?? I was reading last night in FitPregnancy about pregnant women who experience memory problems during pregnancy are more likely to have a girl and women pregnant with boys tend to have the same or a better memory than before they were pregnant.
Funny, because I have been convinced I'm having a boy (mainly because we can't come up with a boy's name we both like) and I have been having issues with memory lately and normally I have a great memory.
Just thought it was interesting and was wondering if anyone else has noticed a difference in their memory.
Memory: I've been incredibly scatterbrained. I can't recall (ha ha) if I was more scatterbrained with DD than with DS. It's been a long time. I did seem more "psychic" with DD than with DS.
Mattress Reuse: I read that info in Baby Bargains, too. Supposedly there might be an increased risk of SIDS due to its repeatedlly being soaked in urine and milk. Uh, every crib mattress I've ever seen has a vinyl cover. How is it going to get soaked in anything? Anyway, I did get a new crib mattress for DD because DS was going to use his in the toddler bed.
BF Class: I'll probably sign up for one. I wasn't sucessful with either DS or DD. I got through the pain with DS but had to quit after several weeks because I had severe anemia and lost weight too uickly and started having dizzy/fainting spells. DD refused to latch on at all, and I tried for several weeks.
*****
I went in for the AFP/Triple Screen blood draw today. I really hope everything's ok.
The good news: not only did I gain back the weight I lost last month, I gained a couple pounds on top of that, PLUS they found a vein quickly so the blood draw itself wasn't bad (it's usually a huge ordeal to find a vein).
The bad news: I won't get the results for a week and a half (thank you sucky insurance plan that requires I use a specific, slow lab). I was really hoping to have them by my next appt. (next Friday) so that if I had any questions/concerns about the results I could ask the doctor.
I asked when my "big" ultrasound will be (I'd be 17+ weeks next week) and the nurse told me it would be the appt. after next week's, 5 weeks from now (I'll be 21+ weeks). DH plans to take off from work to go with me, which is the main reason I asked.
Not to mention, DD never really has soaked through her diapers and we never put her down to bed with a bottle of milk. If these are the reasons, we'll probably just keep the mattress we have for the new baby.
Sophia: I had my blood drawn for the triple screen test today, too. Maybe we can help keep each other's minds off it while we're waiting. My doctor said I will hopefully get a phone call within a week with the results. I think I'm just going to tell myself that everything is fine in the meantime. Maybe that will work...
weight: I had gained 1 pound since my last appointment. That leaves me still about 1 pound under my prepregnancy weight, but it is better than nothing. My doctor said that she's not worried about my lack of weight gain, but I really need to gain 5 more pounds or so by my 20 week appointment. My appetite is starting to come back a little bit, so I don't think that will be a problem.
There's one thing I don't understand: How can I have not gained weight yet, but still be so huge? I caught a glimpse of my reflection today (in the elevator mirror) and there is no mistaking that I am pregnant. I have a definite tummy bump out front. I guess all of my muscles and internal organs just spread out...? Also, I went to a family event yesterday, and I was very aware of the people standing at the edge of the room, whispering about whether I was pregnant. I wanted to shout out, "YES, I am KNOCKED UP! You can stop whispering now!" :D
Oh, we scheduled the big ultrasound for 2/24. I think I can be honest here and admit that I am really hoping for a girl. I have no doubt that I could love a boy just as much, but I feel so comfortable with the idea of a girl. I could pick out cute little girl clothes, I wouldn't have to learn about penis care, and we already have a girl name in mind. We can't agree on a boy name (actually, DH seems uninterested in discussing boy names), so it is a lot harder for me to think of this baby as a boy. Is that horrible?
maternity clothes: I recently borrowed some from a friend, but she just found out that she is pregnant, too! :) I am thrilled for her, but I guess this means I have to give the clothes back pretty soon.
Mystikal-Congrats on your little girl! How wonderful!
Memory- No memory loss with this one. However, I could not remember anything when pregnant with DS.
Big Ultrasound- We have ours scheduled for Feb. 21. We are waiting until then because my parents will be visiting from Boston and I want them to come.
Weddings-My big concerns with being in a wedding shortly after delivery are:
1. I was swollen for about 6 months after giving birth to DS (I could not even wear my wedding bands).
2. I will still be breastfeeding so "certain body" parts will look enormous in a strapless dress-leaving me a little self conscious.
3. Airplane travel with 2 under 2 may mean trouble (cross-country trip)
It will be interesting!!!!
Baby furniture- We have pecan colored furniture for DS. I really had my heart set on white but my husband was very anti-white for a boy. He did, however, promise me that if we had a girl, we could get white furniture. We are not really into "baby-looking" stuff either so we did our son's room in a Hawaiian/beach theme. A nice compromise!!!!!! I will try to post pictures later.
BF class- I did not take one. DH refused to go with me and the night that it was scheduled for was awful weather. I was not up for the drive from San Diego to Orange County. I got most of my info from reading books and the nurses at the hospital.
Hope that everyone has a nice day!!!!
Hopefully I catch up on all the QOTDs-
Classes and Tours- The dr said that we will discuss all of this at my next appointment on the 8th. I want to take a breast feeding class and I need to ask if they have an onstaff nursing helper? (forgot the official term for it). It seems like everything is coming so fast. I was talking to the FedEx guy who's wife is due in April and he was telling me about how busy he is now with all the lamaze classes and it kicked in that it's coming up!
Memory- I'm getting spacy, but everyone is pretty forgiving about it. I have been taking full advantage of my outlook at work to remind my self of everything and made extra files at my desk so that I can keep track of where everything is.
Weddings- My cousin sent a save the date card out for her wedding in August. I haven't seen her in years and we were never close so I'm not sure if I'll go.
Baby Furniture- I still need a crib mattress, dresser, and bookcase. I think I am going to walk over to Ikea today and look around at their kiddie stuff and bookcases. I don't want anything that is too nurseryish or temporary when it comes to furniture.
Clothes and all the accessories- I still need to go over to my uncles house and see what he has for me, and I'm guessing my friend is going to flake out on me since the last two times I saw her she forgot. I'm dying for a pair of maternity khakis. I keep thinking that if I just had this one item I would be set on maternity clothes and then as soon as I get it I start "needing" something else to complete my wardrobe.
Other Nursery Stuff- Shannon is painting this weekend and I am hoping that I can convince him to let me shop for the rest of the furniture this weekend. I am so excited to have paint on our walls. We moved into the apartment in October and all the bare walls are really starting to bug me now. I'll try to remember to take some before and afters. He's for sure doing the nursery and around the windows in the front room. I may just bring home some paint for an accent wall in the living room and master bedroom as well. I think if I buy pizza and beer we can get enough guys over to knock it all out in one weekend.
Congratulations on your baby girl, Mystikal. Girls are so fun! Of course, boys are too (I wanted a brood of boys before becoming pregnant with my DD)--I'm speaking from experience w/ my DD and I have 3 nieces. :)
weddings: one of my good friends is getting married 3.5 wks after my due date. After having Taya, I didn't lose weight for several months. Guess I'll be wearing a maternity dress to the wedding. :\ That is, if Cooter isn't colicky like Taya was. I wouldn't be able to go anywhere if s/he is. Keeping fingers crossed for a mellower baby.
nursery furniture: We're not transitioning Taya into a Big Girl Bed until ... I don't know...college. I'm hoping to get a black or dark cherry/brown crib for Cooter. But, money's an issue so Cooter might get whatever's affordable. :p
Breastfeeding class: I think that was the only class worth going to.
weight: I've gained about 7-8lbs already! :eek: My metabolism just stops when I become pregnant. Last pg, I didn't gain anything until I was about 5 mos pregnant, but gained about 50lbs total! :eek:
Wow, congratulations to those of you feeling the baby move! I definitely haven't felt anything for sure yet.
My dr just called to tell me my results from the quad screening were normal! Such a mind relief. I didn't get the exact numbers for everything but he said something about my risk dropping to 1/5000. I'm not sure if that's for all the things they test for or just downs. But either way, sounds good too me!
So while I was sitting here stressing out waiting for the dr to call, I began thinking about the ugly side of pregancy...Since it seems like a slow day around here i thought we could share! So here goes: darkening hair on my belly, fattening love handels, and my all time favorite so far (though I'm sure there will be many more!) zits all over my chest and back! I swear I never had broken out body skin before and it is sooooooo gross. Okay so that's me, someone make me feel better!
