What are you all doing for birthday themes? Big party, small party??

Here's what I chose for Greydon. I found one online that I really liked, but then I realized that his party is 4 weeks from Saturday and I needed to get the invites out. And the town we live in has 1 good party store and this was the only decent boy one they had...

http://www.birthdaydirect.com/images/1285.jpg

I'm going to have a cake made in the shape of a #1 and have blue frosting on it. I can't wait for the mess!!!

And our party's going to probably be pretty big. Around 40-50 people. Every one of B's party's have been that way and I don't expect it to be different for Greydon. More the merrier I say!

We are doing the classic Pooh 1st birthday for Skylar. Same one I did for Rosalyn's first. I just love pooh! I even made a POOH cake last time, but you can be sure I won't be doing it this time around!!!

Can you all believe how fast this year has gone? I can't believe our babies are turning 1 already.
Here is a pretty recent pic of my 2 girls. Can't post much now, but I hope to pop back in before Jace is born!

Hello ladies! Hurray for the new thread!

Me: Jess 6/6
DH: Dan 7/15
Married: 5/31/03
DS: Nathan 1/31/05

So Nathan is 1 in 2 weeks...actually less than 2 weeks! We went with this theme:
http://www.birthdayinabox.com/images/box_images/FBDBox.jpg
The plates, invites, two little centerpieces, and his birthday banner are in the theme. The cups and napkins are plain blue to match...so I didn't overkill on the theme. I also got the t-shirt that say "1st Birthday Boy" for him to wear on his actually birthday (a Tuesday) for his birthday party at daycare. He'll have party hats there. :) We're getting a cake shaped like a 1 to match the theme...we're using the awesome cake place that has a copy of the invites to match. Can't wait! We're just inviting our immediate families (sisters, parents, grandparents) and close friends. If we did our entire families it would have been over 70 people!! So about 15 - 20 will be coming, and that will be enough for us since it's winter and they will all be inside. :) We've also decided that his present will be a swingset in the spring! That will be fun!

Oh...and Nathan finally said a real word today!!! He said "bye-bye"! Although, he won't say it for Dan yet...but we're trying. :)

We're doing a pink "the happiest first birthday on earth" theme. lots of circles and pink we're having pizza, cake and ice cream. we're inviting about 50 people and I'll be surprised if 25 show.

Our party theme is barnyard animals. Here's the invite I designed:
http://pics.livejournal.com/sfguamgirl/pic/00049krd

BTW, I realized before printing that I had the wrong year (2005 instead of 2006) so I obviously changed it before they went out. :P

Here's our theme party stuff, but like jess&dan we didn't go overboard with the theme stuff. Just favors, dessert plates, party hats, etc. The rest will be turquoise/yellow.
http://www.birthdayinabox.com/images/box_images/4023DBox.jpg

We'll probably have 60 people attend so I had to rent a few chairs. We're also catering in Hawaiian bbq so we don't have to cook! I just have to find a nice b-day cake...

We chose a music theme since Maya loves music.
http://www.birthdayinabox.com/images/box_images/4175nfbox300x245.jpg

For favors I bought wooden maracas.
http://image.orientaltrading.com/otcimg/27_1070a.jpg?resize(250x250)

They say, "Maya Kaitlyn's 1st Birthday February 15, 2006".

Since we have such a large guest list we are having the party at a park. We're expecting about 40-50 adults and 25-30 kids.

Martin is still designing the invitations. The party is 2/19, so I'd like them out by early next week.

Not sure what to do for food yet. I'm thinking large subs from Costco or Publix. Maybe pizza. Any suggestions? I normally cook/cater all parties, but I don't want to this time!

HA!! I did this, too!! To a couple of Ryan's sister's invites. Only I didn't notice it before they opened them!!!

I normally do a bunch of chix breasts in a crock pot all day with butter and seasonings, then shred and put out different sauces that people can put on. BUT, I'm sick of that and I'm thinking of going the easy way like Jess and doing a party sub from Subway. Not sure yet, though...

I have to admit, I hadn't thought much about Morgann's birthday - until you all brought it up and have PLANS! So, I started a little planning. I think we will just do subs from our favorite sub place - Sub Contractors - and cake - I would like to make it - but we will see. However, I like Tonya's idea for chicken...that would be easy and a little more affordable;-) I started the invites. I designed them. They are simple - tri-fold on cardstock w/ ribbon closure. The inside has an elephant/palm tree graphic and the invitation. We are having the party after church, at our church. We fly out later in the afternoon for Pittsburgh, so it will be pretty simple. I need to finish the wording on the invites...how do you say "no gifts" gracefully?

Go Steelers!

I love the new thread! I am still having a hard time it is 1st Birthday season already. I decided to go with a Care Bears theme. Mostly because the decorations have the blue bear and the pink bear, so it is appropriate for both. I went with yellow plates and cups though. I have a coupon for a free cake from Safeway, and they are going to do a rainbow with a pink care bear on one cloud and a blue one on the other. I made iron-on's that say "I Love My Wombmate" for them to wear at their little party. I think there will only be about 8 people, so it will be pretty small. I am just going to pick up a couple pizzas from Costco. Catie and Natie will be 1 in less than a week!!! WOW!!!!!

I love everyone's themes!! They are all so cute and I cannot wait to see pictures of all our 1 year olds!

NJMom - Glad to joined!!!

HGMorgann - I put on the invitations "No gifts necessary, just come celebrate with pizze and cake!" And...hopefully my SEAHAWKS will be playing your STEELERS in the Superbowl!!!!!

We do have a couple of birthdays this week! How exciting!

Nathan is learning a lot lately! He now knows that a sheep says "ba ba ba". He'll grab his Little People sheep and say it and also say it when you ask him what a sheep says. It's so cute! He's also saying "sog" for sock and "burr" for bear. I think he also said book at one point, but I'm not sure. And he popped out his 8th tooth over the weekend! I've been waiting for it to make its appearance!

Meggy is getting animal sounds lately too.. she is able to discern but not create.

i.e. if i say Megan does a duck say moo she shakes her little head and says nooo and then I say what says quack quack and she signs duck. Such a smart little thing. ;) of course she still isn't walking I guess she's all brains and no braun. (at 24lbs:rolleyes: )

Hi Tracie!! I forgot Maxwell was only 2 days older than Mo! :-) Welcome!!

for those who have done swim classes...What are some of the exercises they do with the kiddos? We have been swimming at the Y a lot and Morgann is getting bored with just sputtering around the pool for 1/2 hour!

Anyone elses kiddo losing weight? Morgann has lost 1 lb. 13 oz. since starting to walk. Now, she is still a big chunk, but I guess I have to admit, I am a little concerned. I think I will post over in parenting too..

Roman is in swim class and we do everything to get them comfy in the pool, such as sing songs, splash around, float toys to encourage them to reach/swim toward them, blow bubbles in the water, getting them used to "floating" (I lean R back with his head on my shoulder and swim/move backward to give him the floating senstation--it's important to get his ears wet here so he gets used to it), encourage kicking by guiding their feet and legs, and dunk them (not straight up and down as this will get water in their noses, but from the side and back up).

Journey
01-24-2006, 07:44 PM
Jess&Dan - It is so sweet when they start saying little words for things. Will always used to call milk muck. For some reason it stuck, so everyones sippy cups are mucks. DH and I even ask the kids if they want their mucks... perhaps a little goofy, but it reminds me so much of when Will was a baby and started trying to say things. Catie and Natie aren't really saying things yet, but they know words when I say them.

HGMorgann - I think it is perfectly normal to lose weight or maintain it for a long period of time when they start walking. Will slimmed down tons when he started walking. I haven't noticed it in the twins, but they haven't been weighed in a while, so I am not sure where they are compared to where they had been. I would ask your ped if you are concerned, though.

Scout - Great to see you!!!

just a quick bump for us. are you planning any 'real' activites for the b-day party? I have many children coming but they range from 8 mo old to 8 y.o so it;s hard to do organized activities. I figured the guests would come, we'd eat mingle do presents and cake or cake and then presents. I was also thinking of doing a 1st birthday quilt (having a bunch of precut squares and having guest decorate the square with fabric pens and then I could sew it up after. is that silly?

Journey
01-25-2006, 01:34 PM
mamatallcott - I think the quilt is a great idea!! My mom actually did that at a family reunion a few years back and it is hanging in her craft room. What an awesome way to remember the day! As for activities, we aren't really planning any. There will be one other 2 year old there and only about 6 adults. We are planning on mingling with some pizza and then have cake. Any presents will probably be opened after, but I put none necessary on the invitations.

HGMorgann
01-25-2006, 01:51 PM
I was wondering about activities too as I invited our playgroup. I really like the quilt idea. That would be fun for older kids:-) Or for the littler ones - you could kinda do some "finger painting" on it. Like thumbprints that make a design (heart perhaps?) that woudl be cute.

firefly
01-25-2006, 04:18 PM
I never even thought of using *duh* fabric paints. Those are so much easier to use too... and then the little kids can participate. I think I'll make a big "1" square (the size of 4 little ones) and then I dunno The rest can be 4X4 squares or maybe 6X6 there will be about 30 guests not all will do a square I know like my grandpa wont but my grandma will. so then there will be a 6 squares by 6 squares. hmmm I'm really liking this idea .

for those who don't sew you could always do a wish /memory box and have guest write a wish in an envelope and have them write the age they want the child to open it at 16, 18, and 21 are popular.

jess&dan
01-26-2006, 06:24 AM

firefly
01-26-2006, 10:21 AM
Hey Abbey, if you do the quilt and the babies making something cute the "heart" is really really easy to create the palm of the hand is the 'round' upper part and the fingers make the point on the bottom. thumbs touching does that make any sense?

In kindergarten we used to make a handprint calendar and february was hearts

december was santa (fingers pointing down were santas beard)
november was turkey
october was ghosts hands sideways
etc

Thanks ladies! Nathan had a great birthday! We gave him a cupcake to dig into last night. His party is this Saturday, but I wanted him to have something on his actual birthday. He freaked out at first when the icing got all over his hands, but once I showed him that he could eat it, he was okay with it. He didn't get too messy, but enough that we got some cute pictures. We'll see how he acts this weekend at his party!

Just dropping two pictures of him enjoying his birthday cupcake!

Nathan's party went great this weekend! Everything went smoothly and he soaked up the attention. Of course, the little squirt did not want to be dirty and would not touch the cake until I gave him a spoon. It was too funny. But he did get a little on his face and in his hair. He got a lot of clothes and a few toys...since Christmas just happened. The food worked out great. We didn't overly decorate...I'm more on the simple side, but was very happy with how things turned out. The cake place screwed up and didn't make his cake in the shape of a 1, but it still was adorable and they did a good job. Here's a few quick pics.

Me: Michel
DH: Jim
DS: James (born 01/05/05)

We didn't get to have a party. :( We moved in December and then spent time in TX after we moved. We got back to our new home only 2 days before James' birthday and we didn't know anyone here yet. We had cake at my parent's house, but it was very unorganized. Honestly, it's made me quite sad we didn't get to have a real party.

Here is a picture of James right around 1 year:

MichelI'm sorry about James' 1 year celebration! You can make #2 an awesome one - he'll notice more stuff at that point anyways!

And - If it makes you feel any better, E's party is turning into a nightmare! We sent out the invites and 2 days later got an invite to a "cocktail hour" (a 2 hour party from 4-6 with no other plans for dinner or a night out  ) for our friends that are getting married in Puerto Vallarta in May. The party is on the same day, at the same time and most of the guest lists for our party and theirs is THE SAME!!! Frustrating. I had to just send out a freakin' Evite to change my party time to 3 hours earlier so that people can go from our party to theirs.

Glad Roman and Nathan's parties turned out so well and hope the other ones that were last weekend were awesome!

We had the boys 1 year check up yesterday and they are doing great. Jacob weighs 24lbs 6oz and is 31 inches long. He was 4lbs 10 oz at birth! Brayden weighs 23lbs 10oz and is also 31 inches long. He was 4lbs 5oz at birth. They are both almost at the 90th % for height and 75th for weight without adjusting for their prematurity (they were born at 33wks 1day).

We had their first birthday party last Saturday and it went really well. :) It was just family but we had about 18 people here and the boys did really great with all the attention. They didn't enjoy their cakes too much.

I also gave them cake again yesterday for their birthday and they made a huge mess! They wanted no part in wearing their birthday crowns. Jacob looked disgusted as he was touching the cake and Brayden was more interested in the paper cake plate than the actual cake. They just melt my heart. I was reminiscing all day about their birth. I can't believe they are already 1 year old, it went so fast!

Oops!!

Happy belated birthdays to Maya, Brayden and Jacob!

We had the party yesterday for Elliott and despite all of the scheduling snafus, DH being out of town until 6 p.m. the night before, and freezing cold weather (literally complete with sleet) - it was a success! He had a ball playing with the other kids and smashing his cake. Key word SMASH! He would only eat it if I fed him, but got icing all over EVERYTHING in a 2 foot radius!! We're recovering today - and I have vowed to stop having parties at my house - too much work!! Next year is all about Gymboree!!

Glad your party was a success MrsT!!

We had a birthday party for Greydon yesterday, too. Big success, here, as well. Full house, yummy food, lots o' friends to play with. He had a great time. I'll post some pics later, just a few here, more in my LJ. ;)

It was cool to have the party on his actual b'day. It hasn't worked out that way for Briley yet. And I doubt it ever will since she was born on a Monday.

ANYWAY! Hope you all are having good weekends!!

I can't believe my BABY is one!

Happy Birthday to Graydon, Maren, Elliot, Maxwell and Aiden! Wow, am I behind. Hope all the first Birthday parties went well! :)

Oh, we are definately not TTC. We were blessed with twins and they keep us plenty busy! I could definately see myself wanting another child in a few years when my boys are maybe 4 or so. I never thought I would want more than 2 children but it was such an amazing experience and I love them sooooo much, I can say I absolutely would love to have another child later (I want to enjoy my boys for a few years first). DH is done though so I don't think we will have any more. That is fine too since we planned to probably only have one child and we have two. I am more than happy with my two beautiful sons!

Happy Birthday Maxwell!! (E's birthday twin!!)

Happy Birthday Aidan!!

On TTC: Nope. Not ready. Not going to be ready for a while. I'm hoping to space the kiddos out at least 2.5 years. I get twinges of wanting to be preggo, but I want E to be potty trained (day), weaned and in his own bed - and I want to spend one on one time with him as much as possible. Oh, and I want to take one mini-vacation without him before getting pg again.

We'll probably be TTC when Nathan is 2 1/2. We want about 3 years between each kid, so we'll see if I can hold off that long!

Nathan had his first hair cut this weekend! It was hard, but we got it done...he squirmed and cried but it worked out. He looks so cute! The curls are gone, but I kept a few. :)

He's eating lunch here, but you can see his hair cut.

Wow! Nathan looks like such the little man :) And he's talking, WOW! Maren still hasn't really said anything, but she can point to her toes and head, and will use the sign for "more"

Hmm, I guess I should have answered my own question, LOL! I'd LOVE to TTC now, but DH wants to wait until he can get another job where I won't have to work as much. I told him he has a year :p

And on a funnier note...

anyone else have messy eaters??? don't want to use their hands??

bumping..

hows language development and gross motor development going?

megan has always been ahead on the language..she's starting to catch up on the gross motor. she has always been able to climb... but she's almost running now. She has to be in perpetual motion which means she's sleeping better. (yeah!)

she just cut tooth number 8 (finally)

her 'vocabulary' is about 30 words I'd say and her temper is well still there... so I don't think it's necessarily going to improve with greater vocabulary. maybe though we can hope.

well gotta go finish up dinner ttyl

It's been a while since I've been here.

Happy Birthday Jan/Feb babies! :D

Although difficult at times, I love this age! Maya is so much fun. Every day there's something new!

She talks so much. It's crazy! She tells the dog, "Buddy sit", down, come. It's so cute! Yesterday I told her she doesn't need to cry when she wants me to pick her up. Just say up. The rest of the day, "up, up, up". I love it! She has a huge vocabulary. Tonight in the bath she was a parrot repeating everyting I say.

She's crawling fast and cruising, but still not walking. Fine with me! ;)

Books, my girl love books. Both being read to & "reading" to herself. She could turn pages in a board book for an hour. lol

Maya is finally playing in her crib before falling asleep for naps. The past 3 days she's played atleast a half hour before each nap after I put her down. NICE!

Hmmm, what else... today was her 12 month well baby visit. She's 22.2 lbs. (50th%) and 29" (75th%) her head was 75th% too, but I forgot the #.

HGMorgann Wow, look at your li'l honey. She looks so sweet!

rest of the SO's later. I gotta run.

Wow, Maya and Megan are a lot alike. lol

No real words here yet, except mama and dada. I'm not too worried about it as I know he understands, because he can follow commands. And with his big sis, he probably can't get a word in edgewise! ;)

Starting to RUN around the house. He went pretty quickly from crawling to cruising to walking. All within about a month and a half of each other.

jess&dan
03-08-2006, 08:11 AM
Nathan is pretty much running...he NEVER sits still! This kid is in constant motion until he falls over for a nap or bed! And even in his sleep he moves all over the place! I'm hoping it's a while before he tries to climb out of his crib, but we are working on his new room now because I'm worried with all his energy that he'll try it soon!

He's saying a lot of words here and there. His favorite is Hi and Bye-Bye. He also says daddy, apple, hot, sock, dog, ball, bear and he'll even do "ah-choo" for a fake sneeze! He also says "row row" in a sing song voice for "row row your boat". It's so cute! He can point to his hair, feet, socks, belly, eyes, and nose when asked. And he loves to play peek-a-boo! He says "ba ba" for sheep, "woof woof" for dog, and "mmmmm" for a cow. He went through a period of saying nothing to just exploding! I love hearing his little voice!

HGMorgann - so cute!!!

Hmmm, now I'm beginning to worry...Maren hasn't said any words yet  I know she understands us, but she doesn't even wave "bye bye" or anything yet. No mama or dada, nothing....should I be worried?????

As for motor development...she's really starting to walk on her own now just in the last couple of days. She'll point to things that she wants and has always been a climber!

No, don't worry at all. Maren will be talking before you know it. Several months ago I was worried that Maya wasn't crawling when a lot of the babies in this group were crusing & or walking.

I'm noticing that babies that talk a lot walk later and early walkers tend to talk later.

jess&dan
03-09-2006, 06:15 AM

Morganns vocabulary really seems to expand in bursts. She will talk up a storm and add new words and then quit and then talk alot, have new words, then quit...ect.

She has about 20-30 words...but only about 10 or so she uses every day.

I defintely am liking having more communication with her.

She had her 1 year appt today:
23 lbs 4 oz - up only 8 oz. since 9 mo
29.5 inches long.
She is starting to become "average" sized instead of 97%:-)

Roman isn't talking much. He said Uh-Oh for a month straight several times a day but hasn't said it since. I think he "filed" the word away until he comes to a verbal explosion. Oh, and he mimicked "meow" a couple of weeks ago, but again haven't heard it since.

He also isn't walking yet...just cruising a long and content! I'm not too worried though. He did make the signs for "more", "milk" and "all done" in the last two weeks so maybe he is concentrating more on signing? Not sure what's going on in that little head of his!

Roman looooves books. He brings me at least five books a day and wants me to read them over and over and over. LOL, sometimes I hide them and tell him mommy needs a break...or else I'll go nuts! It is very cute though. His favorite books as of late are: Duck in the Truck, Duck Wants to Swim, Eyes, Ears and Toes, Brown Bear Brown Bear, Polar Bear Polar Bear, Goodnight Moon and Baby Bop Goes to Bed. I swear I have memorized all of these books by now. :P

Roman points out toes and belly button on himself but can point out belly button, nose, eyes, ears, mouth, teeth on me or in books when asked so I know he understands a lot! He also can understand and follow simple instructions so his receptive language is pretty good.

Nathan got a new haircut this weekend. :) We pretty much cut it all off and he looks so cute!

He nows points at every car he sees and yells "Car! RRRRMMMM" for vroom. It's so funny! He's blowing kisses to everyone he sees also! Next week they are transitioning him into the toddler room at daycare. We visited this morning and he wouldn't leave, so we left him there. The one caregiver was going to walk him back later. He was just having too much fun! It was hard on me, though. I don't think I'm ready to admit that he's not a baby at all anymore. And this also means I loose my lunch visits with him, which will just about kill me. But hopefully I'll get through it quickly! Can't believe our babies are not really babies anymore!

Andrea I really like the family picture of you all. I have never tried Morgann in the MT like that. Maren is so cute!
Jess That is so cute that Nathan blows kisses:-)

We are doing great:-) Morgann is running now and constantly is hitting her big ole head. She loves loves loves to climb everything (and falls and hits her head). She was climbing her highchair this morning. Yikes. Her favorite activity right now is to pull everything out of drawers, boxes, or bags and then put it back in. (but yet leave enough out to make a mess)
Here's a picture from Sears from yesterday. I gave up on trying to go get them done when she had no bruises, scratches, or cuts on her head!

Can't believe our babies are not really babies anymore!

nathan looks so grown up there. Meggy hasnt leaned now to blow kisses yet. but she will *bite* (just sets her teeth on no pain is acutally involved) your nose if she is willing to kiss you ;) she's a fickle fanny

just wanted to keep this thread going!

Maren still isn't talking....but I know she understands us :-) We're watching signing times videos and really working with her!

We went to VA beach this weekend and Busch Gardens. It was a lot of fun, but very tiring for DD. It totally got her off schedule!

here's a few pics!

Hi everyone! It's been a while. I usually just get a few moments here and there and check my lj before I come over here. (I'm elliottsmom over there by the way and mrst on MDC :))

LianneIt's so great to see you over here! I always think about you because I love that you had a homebirth. Allen looks adorable - it's hard to believe how big they all are now! And I had to laugh about the haircut - Elliott's mullet is turning into a full fledged ponytail. I NEED to cut it soon!

AndreaMaren is just so beautiful! I have such great fear about the MT and back carries. Is she a squirmer? I feel like E would work his way out or something....

HGMorgannLove the new pics (and the cut on Morgann's forehead is just par for the course - I've been waiting for a bruise free face to get E's 12 month pics done - he's 13.5 months now...)

JessI don't know if I already told you, but he really does look like such a little kid these days. So much hair and such gorgeous eyes!

Elliott is doing great. He walks all over the place and loves to climb on(and fall of) of everything. Brian and I got him a big climber/slide and he just loves it. It's a bit old for him, but he loves trying to climb and going down the slide. We spend a lot of time outside these days! He'll say "go" and get his shoes, my shoes, wait for me to put them on us and then go to the door and try to turn the knob. He's full of energy. He signs a lot more these days too - he's picked up two new signs this week and also said a few more words. It's insane how much they learn so quickly!

Andrea, thank you! :D I ordered the yarn from LTK and a very good friend of mine knitted them. I just LOVE them! He only got to wear them a few times though, since it's just not cold enough here. We took a trip to Chicago in Feb, though, and he wore them several times there (over sposies, since we were gone for a week w/ no washer)

MrsT! You are so sweet :D That is too funny about the ponytail! LOL

The climber/slide sounds so fun. Allen would love it. We got him a sandbox for his bday and he is always looking out the sliding glass doors saying, "BAMBOX! BAMBOX!" It's SO messy though. What were we thinking?! LOL

I'll have to make a list of these mdc names so I can look for you guys over there ;)

MrsT - I have such great fear about the MT and back carries. Is she a squirmer? I feel like E would work his way out or something....

Sometimes she likes to peer around and see what's going on, or reach for things, but not really, but I really don't see how anyone could squirm out! They're in there pretty good and secure! Give it a try! You'll love it! (just practice putting him in over the couch or bed until you get comfortable getting him on your back!)

I think that's a great idea. Lianne so great to see you again. It's been so long.

mommy2maren Nice MT's. I have a Rosie baby. We use the Patapum the most though & the Hotsling. Love the pics you mosted from vacation. Maren is such a pretty girl!

I still wear Maya quite a bit since she's not walking yet & my arms just can't hold her anymore. She's so heavy!

I'm on MDC, but don't have much internet time these days.

Maya is still not walking. She takes 2-3 steps & cruises all over the place. I really think there is a coorelation between the 2. She says at least 30 words.
A few of the latest: cool, princess, love you, Pooh & Diya (Dora)

Hi Candy!!! I can't see your pics :(

Here is one I took of Allen last night. He is sporadically using the potty! :D He tells me about half the time when he pees, but he tells me WHILE he's going. I'm hoping that soon we can move to the point of him telling me before. LOL When I see his "poo face" I try to get him to the potty. We've made it twice now :) Very nice for my CD laundry! It took him a while to feel comfortable enough to go - for a little while sitting on the potty was just *fun* LOL

Lianne, how did you get Allen to tell you when he is pee-ing? I know M.'s poop face - but the pee...I'm clueless on. She LOVES sitting on her potty...but nothing ever is deposited in it!

MT talk - I MT-ed Morgann today as we took the T into Boston. It was such a breeze having her on my back and NO stroller. She actually slept all the way back from downtown to our stop on my back:0) Somehow I lost my super cool sling in Boston today. I'm sad, but now I can make a new summery one, right? I think I need a bigger MT too.....2 new sewing projects on the horizon:-)

Lianne
04-10-2006, 08:28 PM
I just always say, "PEE PEE!" when I catch him peeing. It never uesd to happen outside of his diaper, but lately he's been doing it more. It's part of my mechanism for not getting mad that he's peeing on the floor - LOL - I use it as a time to teach him what he's doing. He also watches me use the bathroom and I say it then, and he hears it, so he's putting it together that way too. He loves to copy us so we're capitalizing on it right now. It's only been the past few days that he's actually said, "PEE PEE!" when he's going - before he would only say it when he heard me going, so we're moving in the right direction! I can't notice any "face" for pee - I solely rely on him telling me, and if he doesn't say it or he's not naked (thus peeing on my floor) then I don't know. I'm trying to do more and more naked time - which he loves - so we can catch it more. It's not a huge deal or anything - it's just a time that he's wanting to be like us so we figured we might as well start. :)

Do any of you have a pattern for a pouch or ring sling? I want to make a solarveil carrier. Actually, I want my MIL to make it since i can't sew; although I want to learn!

HGMorgann
04-13-2006, 10:48 AM
I've made a couple of pouches. All I do is take the normal width of fabric - 45 inches? I think, fold it over, iron, do 2 sets of stiches down the lenght of the fabric (fold over so the print is not showing, stitch down twice) For the length, I fit it to my body and do 2 sets of stitches closing up the sling. That doesnt make much sense does it? Hmmph. I'll try to think of a better articulation and get back to you:-)

I can't get over the fact that we all have toddler's now. Bitter sweet!

I really love this age. Maya is so much fun. She is FINALLY walking as of 2 weeks ago & still talking SO much. When ever she is babbling, I talk back & sometimes say, "I know." She know says that. lol

She is into everything. NEVER sits still for more than a few seconds, unless she's trapped in her highchair or PNP. ;)

Well, girls, I haven't posted in a while and I haven't posted this in LJ either for another reason. I took a HPT yesterday and it came up POSITIVE!!! Actually, I took 2 tests because I couldn't believe the first one! We weren't trying and actually prevented this month. Apparently, one of the "little guys" got through...We were thinking the earliest we'd want to get pg would be October, possibly not even til Greydon was 2!

Here we go again!!

The reason I haven't posted in LJ is because one of my friends there and IRL is pg but she's having some spotting and is nervous. I don't wanna tell her just yet...but she doesn't come here, so I don't have to worry about that.

Nathan is doing great! His language is developing so quickly, it's amazing! The ladies at daycare comment on it all the time. I guess that's what happens when you're born to two of the biggest talkers in the world. :) He's starting to string words together and yesterday at daycare he said "more fruit" and "yes please". He's getting really good at saying please when he wants something. If he starts to scream for something I simply say "what do you say" and he'll stop and say "pease". He's so cute! My baby is quickly becoming a little boy! Now I can only hope that potty training goes as well as his learning to talk. :p I'm going to start that very soon. He's starting to notice when he goes to the bathroom and I make him throw out his own diapers so he's starting to slowly make a connection.

Here's a few pics...

He's obsessed with hats lately and I was trying to get a picture of him wearing one of Dan's and got this face. I laugh every time!

Ugh. Just typed out a long post and lost it.

Congrats to Tonya on the BFP! And Firefly on the new place. I'm way behind on LJ and over here - haven't had much computer time lately. Jess, MTM and HGMorgann, the babes are beautiful. Can't believe how fast they grow and how much they are communicating!!

E is doing great. Signing and talking all over the place. He is getting better at following directions and can help clean up his toys/books and like Jess, we are having him throw away his diapers (he can say "tash" and "durt" :) . I'd love to start pting, but think I'll wait until we move. He does sign "change" when he goes potty though, so he's aware. He loves to "spin" and play in sandboxes.

The biggest news is that we decided to build a house. That's why I've been MIA. We're selling ours, so it's been crazy getting it ready to show (and the showings are a PITA too!). Hopefully it will be over soon, because finding neat things for E to do is really hard work! Especially when it's over 90 every day now and we can't go on walks when we have showings. Also, we average 2 showings a day - one around nap time and one around dinner time - people have come as late as 8!! But, we're glad for the traffic. New house should be done end of September and we're really excited.

Here are some semi-recent pics of E...

Aw, everyone's TODDLERS are so cute. :)

Wagsgirl--holy cow, congrats on the BFP! I was just wondering when we all were going to start round 2 (or 3 or 4)...DH and I are probably going to TTC at the end of this year, when Roman is closer to 2.

MrsT--I'd recognize that rocking horse anywhere. :) Roman is more of a fan of the rocking boat. One of his favorite songs is Row Row Row...

Roman is doing great. He is trying to both walk and talk so things are progressing more slowly with us, but he is really trying! There are some days he almost runs and some days he reverts back to crawling a lot. He is getting more confident, though. He also signs quite a bit so he is communicating his needs and wants. He is still very addicted to books--we go through almost 20 books a day, which is just crazy!

We are going to NY in a couple of days and I am NOT looking forward to the flight. We didn't get a seat for Roman so I am praying there is a seat available for him anyway! I'm trying not to stress about keeping him occupied, but it does worry me. :)

Here's a couple of recent photos of Roman:

CONGRATS WAGSGIRL That is just awesome! I hope you have a wonderful, easy pregnancy:-)

Seattle Roman looks like he is loving the SPRING! So cute.

Jess Did I comment over in LJ? But I love those pics:-) That first one is hilarious. He looks like he is helping Dan out a lot with the gardening:-)

MrsT Good luck on the house building and moving! I haven't seen pics of E lately - he is looking much more grown up! He looks quite handsome in the shades:-)

hgmorgannthanks. he's already flirting with the girls (be glad you and Morgann are in NH :))

SGMRoman is just adorable. Love that he'll wear a hat!!

Can you guys believe there is already a Feb 2007 thread?? This time has just gone by so fast. It's really unbelieveable.

The old house is under contract and our new house is being framed. Now that I don't have to keep the house super clean for showings it's better (but I have to start packing  ). They want us out by Jul 5th - so time is pretty short!!

E is doing great. He's a handful but learning so much. He doesn't think he is a baby anymore - everytime he sees or hears a baby cry he makes the sign for baby. He's on his 4th molar and I'm just waiting for the eye teeth (not looking forward to them!!). He's been sleeping badly (but that's not new, is it:D ). He said his first two word sentence - take shower (well, "tay sh-ow?"). He's always wanting to get in the shower....

We are doing well. Morgann is teething like CRAZY. One eye-tooth and one molar broke through this past week. "Only" 7 more teeth to go. She always runs a fever while teething. It stinks.

Hi everyone!

Maya LOVES her fruit too. Her faves are blueberries & grapes. She is also teething a lot like Morhann. poor girls!

I can't get over how much Maya talks. She repeats what we are saying constantly. Her latest words are tissue, keys and kiss.

We resently swithched from disposies to cloth diapers. We really like it. Any other CDers?

I love reading about all the other kiddos in our group. They are all growing up so fast.

Thanks for the nice words about Aidan :)

Add us to the teething-like-crazy club. Aidan has 5 teeth coming in including a molar, my poor guy was not having a good day today. He's usually pretty stoic but when the molar on the other side came in, it was pretty bad, so I hope it breaks through soon. I'm almost 36 weeks now and holding him for most of the afternoon made my back feel like it was about to snap in half!

I must have missed it too!!! Oh, how I long to PG!

Maren is almost 18 months now! She's still not talking much...but she can sign over 50 signs! SO, I'm trying not to get myself too worried.

As far as teething - maren has 12 now - 4 front top and bottom and all 4 molars.

She's really starting to assert her independence now - and is starting to throw tantrums...WAH! What happened to my sweet little baby???? I'm sure it's only going to get worse before it gets better!

ETA - Candy - we've been CD'ing since Maren was 2 months old - I'm SOO addicted, LOL!

And some pics!

pontmarie: Congrats! Thinking nothing but good thoughts for a easy delivery and healthy baby! Do you know the sex?

mommy2maren: Adorable pictures! Sounds like she is doing great!

Things are going great with Nathan. He's 17 months now...cannot believe he's just about halfway to 2! He's talking up a storm...random sentences and everything! He's even peed in the potty twice! We still have a long way to go on that one, but it's a start! He has an obssession with Superman at the moment. He flies his action figure around everywhere and says his name all day long. Superman has completely knocked out Elmo! :p My DH loves that! He's been a super picky eater lately, but we're working with it. I hide veggies whereever I can and he'll eat bananas. He'll eat way more for the daycare ladies then he will for me, but I think that's because he's around all the other kids and he does what they do. He loves swimming! He's been having a great time at the pool, which is great. He gets to go on his first beach trip in two weeks, so I'm really excited for that! He's also really into our dog. He has to hug her constantly, gives her his toys, and wants to know where she is every second. Cracks us up! I'm really loving this mom thing! :D

Holy cow Pont, congrats on the pregnancy! You are already in the home stretch!

Roman is teething these days as well. I can't count his teeth b/c he never lets me see them. :-\ It's challenging even getting his teeth brushed--he insists on brushing it himself and will clamp his mouth shut when I try to rebrush it!

He's saying about 18 words now and signing a lot too. I am impatient for his next verbal explosion--I want to know what's in that little head of his. :)

Jess, it's a boy, having a hard time with names, though!

Thank you guys, baby dropped a week ago Saturday but we're still here!!! In 100 degree weather. Gaaaa.

Aidan has discovered Teletubbies - we had a playdate and they had the TV on in the background and he thought it was the best thing ever. All I ever have on at home is Food Network :D so I thought that was funny.

His latest thing is to get on top of the coffee table or his toy box and walk backwards

Morgann hates me to brush her teeth too. I'm mean and hold her arms down and force it about every other day. Her teeth will look dirty if I don't....and all she does is suck on the toothbrush by herself and brush her hair with it.

seattleguamgirl

LOL, I'm mean too and hold him down but it's still hard to get in there. My kid's got some determination--not to mention strength! But he actually does a great job brushing his teeth (as good as he is able to do it). He brushes side to side and even moves his head side to side when he mimics me. :) So funny!

Pont, Roman caught the Teletubbies once and loved it too. He LOVED the little baby in the sun. I think kid programming is so freaking weird. He also caught the Wiggles at the IL's and loved those guys but they freak ME out. :P Overall, he loves Barney and I don't mind him watching an episode or two a day since it's all singing about friendship, sharing, numbers, shapes, etc. The only other show I can tolerate is Dora but Roman is not too interested in cartoons. He likes the real-life stuff much better. :)

Gosh, it's been ages since I've been by here!

wags and pontmarie- congrats on the pregnancies!!!!

Can't believe our babies are getting so old!!! Skylar is great.17 months now. She is such a sweet child. She says sooo many words these days - repeats eerything we say! And oh my, the teething is terrible. She is such a little monkey - climbs on anything and everything she can. Bedtime/naptime is a real bear these days. She fights sleep so bad. Have to try a new routine. Any suggestions?? We are enjoying the summer, spending time at my in-laws lake house and my grandparents beach house.

mommy2maren- Count me in on those tantrums. Oh it's terrible!

Jace is now 6 months old. Feel like going crazy sometimes with the 2 little ones, but I haven't yet! He is a great baby!

I'll stop by and catch up more a little later (maybe when the kiddies nap!)

Hello all! I am not sure if you remember me or not, but I am mom to Nathan and Catheryn (almost 18mo) and their big brother Will. I have not been able to have computer access for about 6 months, so I have been out of the loop for a long time!!! We finally got a new computer and I was hoping you wouldn't mind if I joined you again.

I can't believe how big all the kids are now!! I snooped around a bit and must say that you have beautiful children. Congrats to those of you expecting. What a wonderful time for you. I am excited to see your new additions.

We have been staying busy. Trying to get out on playdates and things to keep the kids busy. The twins are talking more and more. They still grunt a lot, but I think that is just because it works! Especially with big brother there to give them what they want. Will has turned out to be an awesome big brother, and a great helper for me. He just turned 3 last month and is acting like such a big boy now. Nathan and Catheryn are pretty fond of him too! I am still having a hard time believing the twins will be 18 months in a couple days already. I don't see any signs of things slowing down either!

I have some catching up to do, so for now I will leave you with a few pictures. :)

mommy to e&l- I am so sorry. you guys are in our prayers.

mommytomaren - maren is such a cutie!

Anyone else have trouble keeping clothes on their little ones?? DD loves to be naked, it is impossible to keep her dressed. She takes her clothes off almost as soon as I get them on!

Another question- anyone with a convertible crib turned it into a toddler bed yet? All of a sudden Skylar seems to hate her crib, and I'm wondering if changing it to a bed will make any difference? The instruction booklet says it can be changed around 15 months, but it still seems so young to me??

no probs keeping DD's clothes on, though I do let her run around naked a lot of the time anyway....now, diapers, that's another question  I have to make sure I put pants on her when she goes to sleep, otherwise I come into a wet crib, and the other day she had POOPED and taken her diaper off, and played in it, EEEWWWWW!!!!!!

HGMorgann - I am not sure what is wrong with the pictures. I previewed them when I posted and they were fine, an then I even came back later to finish reading the past posts and they were there. Now even I have those little x boxes. I will have to try them again.

blondegirl - My kids occasionally take their clothes off, but not too often. I am hoping the twinnies stay content in their cribs for a while because I am not even close to being ready to tackle real beds yet!

mommy2maren - I love the pictures you posted. And Ohhh, poop pies...yummy!

Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I have been here too. Jacob and Brayden are doing great and are just more and more fun every day (except for the occaisonal tantrums!). They are both really sweet boys and are really affectionate - it just melts me! I will try to post some pictures soon.

My other news is that I am expecting another baby on December 29th. This was a surprise for DH and I but we certainly welcome the surprise! The boys will be 22 months when the baby comes so I do have to admit I am a little scared about having 3 kids under age 2! I'm sure I will manage fine.

Journey-I am very happy to "see" you...I was wondering where you went and I was hoping everything was ok. Glad to hear all is going well with you and your little ones!

I just want to say that I love the pictures - what a bunch of cute kids!

Aidan likes to undo his diaper tabs when I'm changing him but once he's off that table he doesn't mess with them - thank goodness! He's a rather, uh, prolific child :o Clothes are no problem, he keeps them on.

We got Aidan a convertible crib since his crib will be taken over by the new baby, we weren't planning on converting until 18 months or so but since so much is going to change for him with the baby, we're going to let a few more months go by so there isn't yet another change right now.

mommy2maren - DH's friend designed the mural and DH built the parts of the ship (crow's nest, sail, side of the ship, etc.), they both painted it and another friend and I helped paint a bit. He loves the room, the day we brought him in he was jumping around, asking to be put in his new crib, it was so cute!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow, it's great to see this thread hoppin again! I've been reading along, busy as all heck since we're moving next week. Sammy is such a great helper :) Actually, I think she'll be much better at the unpacking since that's what she keeps trying to do now!

I've also just joined the April 2007 moms thread since I found out a few days ago that I'm pregnant! April 10 is the due date and we're very excited. I'm definitely nervous about going through pg this time with a toddler so it'll be interesting. Sammy has really gotten into babies recently and started signing and saying baby, as well. SarahKat - Congratulations on the pregnancy!!! Good luck with your move. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I think it is funny how different all the kids are. We went to the park today and Catie was digging around in the strollers, Natie was sucking on a plum and wandering around just watching everyone, and Will was running all over like a crazy man with his friend Thomas. They all had a great time and are snoozing away right now. I love nap time... :p Although, keeping track of them all at the park is exhausting in itself and I think I could use a nap, too!

Sarahkat, I know I congratulated you in your LJ but congrats again here. :)

Roman is doing very well. He is just about 18 months now (in two days!) and is saying about 25 words and signing a bunch too. He's still the little vulture, eating anything and everything he can get his hands on. I don't know how he is still a shrimp, though! He barely weighs 21 pounds.
