BABY GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS
Nursery Accessories

Ocean Wonders Aquarium for crib

Prince Lionheart wipes warmer

Wipe Warmer: Best $20 I ever spent. It may seem like a silly thing to buy, but the facts are that you WILL be changing baby in the middle of the night, and there's no need to shock him/her with a cold wipe if you don't have too

Strollers/Travel

Get or make some kind of carrier: Bjorn, Sling, Wrap, etc. Most babes like to be held close to mom. My slings were lifesavers when Noah was little, and I used them up until he was nearly 2.
Floppy seat (invaluable for restaurant high chairs and shopping carts)

Bundle Me (fleece covering for stroller or car seat in TODDLER size, the infant will be outgrown too fast)

Furniture/Activity centers

Pressed for space? You can easily do without a changing table. Baby can be changed in the bassinette, crib, or on the floor. Place "changing stations" (a basket with diapers, wipes, a small foldable blankie for a pad, etc) in corners around the house. Presto!

Evenflo exersaucer

Deluxe Symphony in Motion mobile by Tiny Love. Don't go for the pretty one that matches your bedding!

Graco pack n play with bassinet and changing pad attachment - especially if you have two floors in your house. makes it much easier for baby to have a place to be changed and napped downstairs so you do not have to keep running around

Fisher Price Aquarium Swing

Wait to buy a swing. Some babes love them, some hate them. Let them try it out at BRU, or try it out at another mom's house before you buy. They're pretty expensive, and they only last to about 17-20 pounds (which in my case was around 6 months.)

Noah's vibrating bouncy chair was a Godsend. I put him in it every day to take a shower. His was the kind that works from 0-3 years, not so much a bouncy seat as a rocking chair that you can make stationary for babies. I think it's made by Fisher Price. He's 2 now and still sits in it to read. Will definitely be buying another for bb#2.

Feeding

Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe High Chair. It comes with toys that attach that Dylan loves and three removeable dishwasher safe trays.

Boppy pillow

Breastfeeding Essentials (if you choose to BF) Get thee a tube of Lanolin/Lansinoh. LIFESAVER. Invest in good nursing bras. Buy or make nursing pads. I loved my Boppy for nursing when Noah was a wee one, then he used it for propped up tummy time and eventually sitting up practice. Nursing pajamas were lovely for nighttime nursing.

I'd skip a highchair. Some moms love them, but not me. I was given one, and I hated cleaning the thing. Space is also an issue for us, and I preferred putting Noah in a booster type seat that attaches to a regular chair. He used the included tray at first, and now he just sits right up to the table. By 6 months when he was eating solids, the booster seat was fine.

Bathing

Infant: Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn to Toddler Tub

then once they are sitting up the Eurotub

Toys

Gymini by Tiny Love

Leapfrog Learning Table

Whoozit

Safety/Health

Baby Quiet Sounds Video monitor by Summer Infant Products

CLOTHING

Halo sleepsacks

Registering: Other than for Sleep Sacks and the like, don't register for clothes! Especially if your baby turns out to be a girl! You will get 500 onesies & many cute outfits, but none of the things you really need.

LABOR/DELIVERY

Hospital bag: I recommend packing healthy snacks (fruit, nuts, etc) as you may be in labor for awhile and the hospital will not let you eat anything per policy (popsicles & ice chips OK, but that's it). It's a valid policy, but I was in labor for more than 24 hours and I was SO GLAD I ate on the way to the hospital and brought a few granola bars & craisins. Also glad I brought: body pillow, lip balm, unsented lotion, a med length nursing gown and long (knee/thigh high) socks.

Open for posting. :)

When the time comes and we start having our babies - please post in red which photo you want posted on the first page (if you want any posted there at all).

Please post in red if you would like a due date buddy (someone on this thread to notify when you have your baby so they can post your news here).

Welcome to the 3rd trimester! We're almost done! :) :D :)

Thanks for the new thread!

Mel Sorry your DH is being deployed. I would agree with most of the other posters and think I would stay home in your situation. For us, we debated having me stay home and decided financially and emotionally it made the most sense. Now I could not imagine having to leave Dylan every day. And I have to tell you - I am NEVER bored. not once in his almost 19 months. We do one class a session, get together with other friends and their kids...and when he naps that is my quiet time. I love SAH. Good luck with your decision

Sully So glad to hear you and baby are doing well!

GTT results I took the test on a Saturday and my OB called that monday with the news that I failed

Jane We ended up with the Pilot, but I loved the CRV when I test drove it. As far as I am concerned, you can't go wrong with a Honda ever

Mel and Jennifer I swear when I saw there was a Friendly's less than a mile away when we were househunting, that factored into my decision to buy this house! :p oh and Mel 17 pounds once you are way past the halfway mark is great!! You are not on track to gain much at all.

Jeeplover love the bedding and that lamp sounds so cute! We were so tempted to buy the sit n stroll but we do not travel enough to justify the $200. I am not sure that I would use it as my everyday carseat

Oh and someone had posted about gaining a pound a week. That is what my practice says is the perfect amount once you are out of the 1st trimester

I think I am caught up on SOs :D

mel7dog

Whoo hoo a new thread! I would like a due date buddy! I am confused though? Does it have to be someone due aorund your time, or anyone in the thread? We just call this person to post our news once we are in labor/give birth? Sorry I am new and stupid!

Ladies, thanks for all your responses with my SAH decisions. I know SAH would be best, I will just have to keep myself busy! Otherwise I will just miss DH. I do want to SAH, I just have reservations about putting my career plans on hold. I have thought about moving home with my parents, but don't know if I they would drive me crazy for 8 whole months. I'll most likely visit a few different people and stay with my parents for a month of two over the holidays. Lots going on, but at least we know now and can prepare :)

My MIL is a Friendly's addict. :p My SIL actually received gifts at her baby shower from Friendly's employees. :eek: :p

Mel - For the due date buddies you call or email them when you can to update them. Some people would rather wait and post themselves when they get home or some bring a laptop to the hospital and post from there. The goal is to pair up people who have due dates far apart so that you both aren't in the hospital at the same time and can't post for each other. Does this make sense?

Sal - DH has a Honda Civic and its been a great car - just small. He seems most comfortable going with the Honda. I liked all of our top choices so I'm pretty much leaving it up to him. And its certainly a plus that the Honda salesperson was one of the least slimy we dealt with.

Sevilla

Due Date Buddies: I don't think i need one. We'll have internet access from our hospital and if DH isn't up to posting the news from there we'll be home after just a day or two.

Weight Gain: Since 25-40 pounds overall is the typical range of a 'healthy gain' i don't think anyone has anything to worry about. I started out small (size 4) and i've put on 25 lbs. so far. I feel great and my midwife's been really pleased by my gain. People are often surprised when i tell them b/c they can't figure out where all that weight is hiding. I'm pretty sure i'll put on about 35-40 lb. total which is fine with me as long as its gained by eating healthy. That's how much my mom put on with each pregnancy and it all came off within a year each time.

QOTD: What pregnancy/childbirth books are you reading or planning to read?
I just checked a huge stack out from the library that i've been going through and wondered what others are reading :).

I would like a due date buddy!

I am going to repost my last post from the old thread about the stroller:

Oh question on strollers, has anyone tested this stroller out in a store?

The Sit-n-Stroll 5-in-1 travel system I haven't seen it in a store around here and I was just wondering about it.

QOTD:

So far I have read
-The Mother of All Pregnancy Books: The Ultimate Guide to Conception, Birth, and Everything In Between
-Baby Bargains - aka my baby product bible!
-Exercising Through Your Pregnancy (read here and there)
-Birthing from Within: An Extra-Ordinary Guide to Childbirth Preparation
(read here and there, too "froofy" for me)
-Belly Laughs

I am currently reading
-The Pregnancy Journal: A Day To Day Guide To A Healthy And Happy Pregnancy (read each week)
-The Birth Book : Everything You Need to Know to Have a Safe and Satisfying Birth

I plan to read
-Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way
-Active Birth : The New Approach to Giving Birth Naturally

Wow, I better get reading!!

Jane - Thanks for starting the new thread! We have two Hondas (well one is an Acura but it is made by Honda) and when we get another car it will be a Honda.

jeeplover - Very cute bedding!

GTT result - I got mine right away. They used an instant reader so I knew I failed an hour after I drank that stuff. :(

QOTD - I am trying to read Breastfeeding After Reduction. Every once in a while I refer to the Pregnancy Week by Week book just to see what's going on for the week I'm in.

I'd like a due date buddy.

Happy hump day!

Jane&Andy
01-18-2006, 11:28 AM
QOTD: I've been reading WTEWYE but not reading it very much. My sister is giving me a baby sleep book - I think its Healthy Sleep Habits - as a shower gift. I'm anxious to move on to reading that one.

I'm a registry peeking loon these days. I can't stop myself. :o :p

Kopper

Yay for the new thread!

Sal03 & briamcd - Sorry about failing the GTT. Good luck on the 3 hour test!

briamcd - I love the name you picked out. :)

jeeplover - That's a great deal on the dresser/changing table combo! I'm sorry to hear about your PUPPS but glad it is a little better. My mom had it with me and she still talks about how uncomfortable she was. Congrats on the job btw.

Sully - I'm glad to hear you are doing so well!

Uskiku - Good luck in your doctor search. I hope you find one you like.

Mel - I agree with everyone else. Going to stay with family and friends sounds like a great idea.

Friendly's - Can you believe I've never been to a Friendly's? :eek: We don't have them around here. :)

New cars - We are still debating about what to get. Right now we are looking at the Toyota Prius and Matrix. I don't really want another SUV and DH is dead set against getting a minivan.

Weight gain - Yikes! After doing very well in the 1st half I gained a ton over Christmas. I'm back to gaining around 1lb per week now but I'm up nearly 25lbs. :o Since I'm measuring ~3 weeks ahead, maybe that has something to do with it. :confused:

---
Work is still pretty busy. I've made two prenatal consult appointments with pediatricians. Now I have to come up with a list of questions to ask! I was going to make an appointment with another group of doctors but they were being such a pain that I didn't even want to deal with them. The lady said she would schedule me an appointment and then call back with a date and time. :rolleyes: I guess I was just supposed to take off work whenever they could fit me in. She also gave me a hard time since I'm not due until April. Apparently they don't like to see people for consults until about a month before their due date. I told her never mind and I would call back in a few weeks if I hadn't found another doctor I liked.

Books QOTD

Read:
Mother of all Pregnancy books
Girlfriend's Guide to Preg (Hated this!)
Fit Preganancy (or some other pregancy fitness book)
Bradley birth book
Ina May Gaskin's Natural Childbirth

Reading:
Happiest Baby on the Block

Need to read:
Breastfeeding book
more childbirth books!

Jeeplover: Haven't pushed that stroller myself, but read enough reviews on baby bargains website to stay away from it -- its hard to steer, infants slump too much, and it doesn't fit down the aisle of an airplane.

Using it to get a toddler through the airport and use it as a carseat at your destination seems like its perfect use!!

Books: Weekly I read "Your Pregnancy week by week". I have also started "Happiest Baby on the Block", but we just got the DVD so I will probably just watch that. Like Mel, "Baby Bargains" is my bible! I loved having it while registering.

Due Date Buddy: I will have DH post in here (or maybe I will if we have internet access at the hospital).

Weight: As of Friday (25 weeks) I was up 14.4 lbs, but as of this morning I was up 13 lbs.

QOTD not really reading this time around. first time I read the girlfriend's guide and what to expect. And I got a little book called "my Boys Can Swim" for DH. it was hysterical. For BFing, I LOVED "So That's What They're For: Breastfeeding Basics" by Janet Tamaro. Between that book and lurking in the BFing thread for months, I truly believe that led us to such a long successful BFing experience.

For those of you reading books like Healthy Sleep Habits etc, GOOD IDEA. I truly believe it is never too early to get into good sleep habits and I will definitely be starting things like bedtime routines much earlier with this baby. Even when it seems like it is so early and it is not making a difference, I personally think it does!

I have a nosebleed right now. lovely. I got them once in a while first pregnancy and I guess they are going to appear again now. :rolleyes:

Kopper: Good luck interviewing a pediatrician! The main things i would ask about are what they recommend re: starting solids (b/c the new AAP recc's are to not start until 6 months), how knowledgable they are about breastfeeding (b/c a lot of peds don't even get much training in this area at all and i've seen them give terrible bf advice!), how they handle ear infections (if they prescribe antibiotics each time no matter what that's not good and is not recommended anymore) and just that you generally feel that they're supportive of your parenting style :). I found our ped through the recc's of a friend b/c they support and are knowledgable about some things that are important to me.

QOTD:
Read: The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth, Your Pregnancy Week by Week, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy (didn't like it!), Baby Bargains

Reading: The Birth Book by Dr. Sears, Homebirth by Sheila Kitzinger, the Bradley Workbook from our class along with a binder of articles our teacher gave us

In the que: Husband Coached Childbirth, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, and Spiritual Midwifery by Sheila Kitzinger.

For those of you who'd read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth would you recommend it? I was thinking about buying this one as well. I already have Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, Active Birth : The New Approach to Giving Birth Naturally, and The Birth Book. Do I need another birth book? Hmm I just don't want to miss any chance to make my goal on NCB a success!

Mel: The cool thing about the Ina May book is that the whole first half is dozens and dozens of real birth stories--some of the other childbirth books don't focus on that as much. Maybe you could get it from the library if you don't want to spend the $$? I haven't bought any books b/c my library has a good selection.

Yay for our new thread!! We're in the homestretch ladies!!

Updates: next appt: Feb. 6

I'd like a birth buddy too! I'm sure we'll take the laptop and be informing everyone right away of the stats etc., but it's nice to let someone know that we are in labor and on our way.. and then everyone can sit around and wait with bated breath LOL

I need to get some of these books... off to the library later.

Unfortunately my library does not carry that many books on pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. The books that I saw they had were all like published in the 70's. I decided too much has changed since then. I'm reading your preg week by week. and I just bought, so that's what they're for...

We had our ultrasound today, to see if our little boy is growing how he should be, and I'm thrilled to report that he seems to be thriving - he weighs 2.2 pounds! :D We were just over-the-moon happy to see him so healthy and active. He has chubby cheeks! :D And the coolest thing was that the tech wanted to test out the 3D machine and asked if we mind if she uses us to "practise" -- we didn't! ;) By the time we got the 3D machine going, baby was already trying to go back to sleep (had to drink that &^%$## sugar drink before the ultrasound -- truly the most revolting stuff I've ever tasted! -- so that must have woken him up) and covered his face with his hands, so we didn't get a very good look at his face. But we do have an absolutely adorable picture of him pressing his little nose and cheeks against his arm... awww... he looked so darn cute, I simply cannot wait to hold him in my arms!

Thanks everyone for sympathizing with DH job (non-)situation; we really appreciate it!

Sevilla Thank you! Unfortunately a doula is probably not going to be an option for me because of the $$$ issue. I just felt like that doctor was very much "I know what's best because I'm an MD" type. A bully, at worst... I really wouldn't want to fight someone while in labor, but I got a feeling that he might be pushing for a C-section at the slightest and slimmest excuse... A friend of mine recommended her doctor -- a smaller office (4 doctors instead of 7) and they also have midwives, which I think is a good sign. I'll look into it later this week.

Books I've read "Ina May's guide". Am currently reading "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth". I actually didn't finish the birth stories' section in Ina May's book, but liked some techniques she recommended. I borrowed it from a friend and have forgotten a lot, so I need to re-read some chapters nearer the time.

Book recommendation, anyone? Can anyone recommend a good book with descriptions of different stages of labor and how to cope/relax/get through them? I'm thinking of ordering Penny Simkin's "The Birth Partner" -- has anyone read it?

Due date buddy Think I'm OK -- DH can update if there's no ethernet connection at the hospital.

And last but not least -- thank you so much, wonderful threadmistress for this beautiful new thread! :) I got goosbumps seeing the "final trimester" on the title and seeing all those places reserved for baby pics...!

GTT - I haven't heard anything from the dr., so I think I passed. They only call if you have to come in for the 3 hour :rolleyes:

Mel - Just chiming in about the SAH question. I think I'd like to do it if we could afford it and still continue with our lifestyle. We made the decision before we bought our new house a few months ago that if we bought something as big as this, I'd continue working. I'm OK with that. Plus, I think for the type of work I do that it would be hard to re-enter the workforce after taking an extended time off. Now, if I won the lottery, that'd be a whole other question :p Definitely do what you feel most comfortable doing!

Books - I've read several pregnancy ones (Girlfriend's Guide; WTEWYE; Pregnancy Sucks; others) and sleep teaching ones (Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child; Happiest Baby on the Block) and of course, I love love love Baby Bargains. But I haven't even thought of reading a childbirth one. Yikes, maybe I'm just trying not to think about that part ;) Will have to look up some of your recommendations.

Kopper - Sorry work is so busy. Don't our bosses know we have more important things to think about :p Good luck interviewing peds.

Sal - I've gotten a nosebleed almost daily since 2d trimester. :rolleyes: I'm going to check out that BFing book. I know I want to BF, just not sure about the "how to" part of it.

Uskiku - Yay for a great u/s and for getting to see the 3D!

**** I can't remember if I posted, but we bought our bedding, glider, and ottoman last weekend from USA Baby. I was a little chagrined to not be able to find our bedding brand in Baby Bargains, but I think it's OK :o The glider and ottoman are Best Chair, mint green, suede-y soft material. We'll pick them up on Saturday and then hopefully post pics. We also decided to get an armoire and changing table to round out the room. I'm so excited that it's coming along.

DH is at a work event so I'm off to scrounge around for some dinner!

Txfish: From the last thread, but i wanted to say that i think your bedding is so cute!

Usiku: I hope looking into the other practice works well for you. Ugh i would definitely run from a doctor who was c-section happy, did you happen to ask what his csection rate was? My practice's rate is below 20% which was important to me, plus they offer VBACs. In terms of a book detailing the different stages of labor, i think that Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon does a great job--there are 100 pages devoted to the various stages of labor and how to cope with them, in a lot of detail. They also give exercises and such to do to help your body prepare which i've found helpful (and relaxing too!). http://www.bellywomen.net is a website to find free doula services, so maybe that could be an option for you too. HTH!

Phew - I'm glad we're in the same boat. I was a size 2/4 and I've gained 26/27 so far, good lord. But I think I'm good, and my Doc says its fine and he sees no problem. Our due dates are a week apart, and I have also kind of accepted the whole, I'm gonna gain 30 something/40 something pounds.

I just hope I can squeeze my @$$ into my old jeans at SOME point after the baby is born :-D

Yay for our new thread!!
I'm getting anxious....I want to meet the baby already!! Am I the only one who's had enough of being pg. Don't get me wrong, I love feeling the baby move around and everything,, I just feel so cumbersome and BIG, like I can't even maneuver properly, even turning over in bed is a feat in and of itself....

Not sure if I posted this in the old thread but my 3 hr glucose test came back fine, I do not have GD. I got my Rhogam shot last week and it HURT! Apparently they have to keep them refrigerated so when it goes into your muscle its really cold and you feel it!! I am normally very good with shots but that was really bad!

We registered @ Buy Buy Baby and my shower invites are out--my shower is 2/26. We picked the "Silver Lining" bedding for the crib--we have one bedroom so baby will be in our room..the walls are green in my bedroom so this matched, and it is also gender neutral.

Hope everyone is doing well! We are in the homestretch ladies!!!!

Wow - I am so behind, I have been lurking though :)

Glucose Test - I took my GTT a few weeks ago, and passesd with a 107. I was thrilled only b/c my family has a problem with high blood pressure, diabetes, and weight. So, I try very hard to not fall into that trouble.

QOTD - Books
I've been reading/have read several: Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy, Girlfriends Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood, WTEWYE, Super Nanny, Baby Bargains.

On order: Happiest Baby on the Block, Firsts Meals - Some make your own baby food book, Baby Signs, Girlfriends Guide to Getting Your Groove Back.

I'm a book junkie :)

Car/SUV Purchase - Just got the call yesterday that our RX 330 is IN!!! Yahoo, so we're picking it up Friday - oh gosh, that's tomorrow isn't it? :) Awww, I have to clean out my Prelude and say good bye :( Isn't it funny how you become attached to a vehicle?? It was my first 'real' purchase after college. I didn't sleep for 3 days b/c I had a car payment, now I have a mortgage and a baby on the way, and I'm sleeping JUST FINE haha.

Mel - As for SAH, I am one who is all for it if you can afford it. Luckily I don't have to make that tough decision, b/c I work from the house anyway, but I wouldn't be able to be a SAHM b/c we just bought a ginormous house, that came with a ginormous mortgage payment, hahaha. But I am considering going part time so I don't feel guilty for not being at full attention for work after our baby is born.

KB - Cute bedding!

Hee hee, i tried on my pre-pg jeans two days ago just to see if i'd really gotten bigger all over or just in my belly. I was still able to get them on just fine. Zipping them isn't happening, lol, but they fit my legs and butt great :). I love stretchy jeans.

Mel - yes we WILL :) I kind of see it as a game, I lost a lot of weight before my wedding, and kept it off for so long this time, well until this baby came along, hehe. So it'll be fun to do it again, knowing I totally can do it.

Sevilla - I know what you mean, my Sevens are stretchy and I could still slide those on, but those jeans without any stretch... boooo. I look at them everytime I go in my closet, haha.

I was looking at the Skip Hop diaper bags for DH and was going to order one online today. Instead I decided to see what stores in the area carry them and found that the baby shop down the street carries them. So Bella (our dog) and I went for a walk at lunch today and I stopped to see what they carried. I was shocked to find that there Skip Hop bags were on sale for 70% OFF! I bought DH the Skip Hop Dash Diaper Bag for $18! I was going to spend $68 + shipping online but I am glad I decided to wait! Here it is...

MMHinCA - AWESOME deal!!!! Can't beat that. Maybe I'll stop by the store I know sells them and see if they're running a deal too.

We're thinking of purchasing just two cheaper diaper bags, both from Lands End. I'm a purse-a-holic (but only with Louis Vuitton - so it gets pretty expenseive :(), so I'm really trying to limit my diaper bag purchases. I was going to buy the Juicy diaper bag, but decided I should spend my money more wisely, I've gotten into that good habit lately :-D.

Charissa - I don't know which Land's End bags you were looking at but I bought 2. Obviously I haven't used them yet but they appear to be very nice. I have the backpack and the little tripper. My sister has the backpack too and has been very happy with it. I have a bad back so I wanted a backpack for my larger bag.

I ordered some baskets for the nursery from JC Penny (they have a great color selection) and they came today. They're really nice.

MMH I can not believe the deal you got. That is unbelievable. In Buy Buy Baby I just looked at one for $64!

KB glad your 3 hour went well. mine is next saturday. I am dreading it

Weight I am also a 2/4 and really watched my weight with Dylan. But I am not as worried this time because after he was born I lost 20 pounds in the first two weeks and the rest of the weight and THEN some came off so fast with BFing. So don't worry! Sounds like everyone is doing fine with their weight!

MMH-Great deal on the diaper bag for DH!

QOTD: I have been reading WTEWYE, and the Mayo Book of Pregnancy, as well as WTEITFY, and some pregnancy magazines. I registered for some books on making your own baby food, as well as healthy child books and sleeping books. I love to read so anything I can get my hands on I read!

Well I spent the day running around getting our cars registered and my license changed over finally to VA. I didn't get a call from the doctor about my GTT so I am taking that as I passed it. I meet with the high risk OB tomorrow and we get to see our little boy as I am scheduled for an ultrasound! This weekend we are going to a baby "expo" at the hospital and they are going to give tours so I am excited about that. Also there are supposed to be some pediatricians there as well!

I wasn't nearly as small as the rest of y'all before getting PG, haven't been that size since before puberty! :p But I do plan to try my hardest to get in better shape after having the baby. I'm not going to make myself miserable fretting over weight gain during this pregnancy.

Jane your nursery looks soooo cute! :)

MMH GREAT score on the bag!

Sevilla I wish I'd asked him about his c-section rate, but I didn't... Part of his "problem" might have been a very pretty and young resident who was also present. This doctor seems to be a 40 or 50-something and was clearly showing off... Whatever, really.
Oh, and thanks so much for that website; I'll check it out!

Just made a couple of calls and it looks like there will be no problems with transferring to another office! :)

Confessions Hmmm... I too have not given up deli meat :eek: (Jrsygirl, I'm right there with you on this one! I mean, seriously, how many people do you know who have gotten listeria? ;) ) I've had 2-3 sips of red wine and oh, yes, not enough kegels here too... Must. work. on. that. last one.

Had the appointment with the high risk OB today, it was a different one than that last guy I met with. I like this one alot better, of course he has heard quite a bit about me from some people that work at the hospital (DH works with them as their architect). He was really nice and said that my case of pulmonary hypertension was really mild and the reason is that we were holding on a conversation while I was lying on my back and he said that if I had a severe case I wouldn't be able to converse so easily with him. We got to see our little man who now weighs 2 lb 2 oz! I am still measuring farther along than my actuall due date but that is ok.

Confessions: I have drank caffienated tea maybe once a week if that, not enough kegels, I am horrible at taking my prenatal vitamins especially when I was on 4 different prescriptions and once in a while I take a sip of my husbands Barq's rootbeer!

Jane - The nursery is looking good! I am so jealous you get to do yours now. We will not be in the our new house till the last week in March, so I have to wait. Luckily my mom is going to fly down just to help me paint and set up :)

MMH - like the others, wow what a diaper bag deal!

Sal - you have just given me so much hope about dropping the weight. I'm not too worried since I am going everything I can to stay in shape, but it's nice to hear it's possible to drop it all quickly!

Confessions
I have an occasional diet soda, lots of foods w/splenda, had sushi once (the good stuff with the raw fish wrapped on the outside), I eat deli meat every now and then, I usually forget to take my vitamins on the weekend, and I haven't done nearly enough kegals.

Diaper Bag
I bought a cheap one from Gap a while back that I really like, but I have also been craving the designer ones. Hmmm I may treat myself!

Shower
Looks like I am having a shower afterall! It will be a small work shower with another girl who is due in a few weeks, but at least it's something. I am too excited :)

Quick post to say awesome nursery Jane! You did a great job!

And since confessions are good for the soul ;) : I was pretty strict with myself during first trimester, but once the second one hit...I eat lunch meat, brie, and blue cheese (not all together). I've had 2 iced teas this week (none before tho) and probably 5 or 6 "real" sodas during the pregnancy. I haven't even started doing kegels. Whew - I feel better.

Mel - yay for the work shower! Have fun with your nursery in March. :) My sister moved 2wks before her due date and had to wait until then to get her nursery set up too - but she got it done and it turned out great.

jeeplover - I'm glad your appt went well. :)

Confessions - I still drink diet Dr. Pepper frequently (but stay well below the max recommended caffeine allowance), eat deli meat periodically, I forget to take my calcium supplements, I've had a few sips of wine, I rarely do kegals, I've eaten brie (although it was pasteurized so I don't think its really a confession but figured I'd mention it since someone else did).

My DH's work has started asking about potential days to throw us a shower. His office is only 10min from mine so its easy enough for me to get over there without taking too much time off. :)

thanks again for the nursery compliments. :)

My dog is sick AGAIN. Its seems minor this time but he still woke me up a lot last night. I didn't feel bad this morning but now the exhaustion has hit. And of course I need to clean and bake tonight in preparation for tomorrow (having a tupperware party and then celebrating MIL's birthday at my house).

oh fun...I like confessions

Confessions I eat deli meat all the time, also did with Dylan. I eat SO much sugar this pregnancy. probably why I failed my 1 hour :o I do not at all remember to bend from the knees when picking up Dylan and that is probably why my back kills all the time. I eat lots of soft cheeses like brie and goat but they are all pasteurized so I am not sure that is a real confession. I do not think I have done ONE kegel this pregnancy and though I have sworn to start it tons of times, still have yet to do my prenatal yoga video.

Jane - Your nursery looks great (from that picture!). You must be so thrilled with it and seeing it all come together.

Mel - That's wonderful about the shower. How exciting!

MMH - What a fantastic deal on the bag! Score for you!

jeeplover - I'm so glad to hear your appointment went well.

Confessions- Prior to the drama in my life (pre-bedrest), I was not good at all. I had deli meat sandwiches once a week probably and worst of all, they usually had been sitting out for an hour before I ate them (at work, I just got something if there were leftovers). Sometimes I would heat them up, but usually not. Some had sprouts. I beat myself up about it a little bit at first convinced it had something to do with my water breaking -- which is silly. Now, I'm strictly by the book. I will drink half a Coke if I have a headache (maybe twice a month), but other than that I don't drink caffeine b/c I have to drink so much water every day and that dehydrates you.

I'm not even sure if I know how to do Kegels. And I haven't read any pregnancy books. I do have WTEWYE, but since my pregnancy has been what no one expects, I figure what's the use. ;) I still eat too many sweets.

Hi everyone,

The new thread is great and moves so fast these days. I'll try and do some SO's.

Mel--That's great about you getting a shower. I'm sure it will be fun just seeing all the baby things.

MMH--what a great deal on that bag! I know my mom is going to get me one I just can't wait to see which one it is. My mom has pretty good taste and knows what I like.

Jane--your nursery is too cute! I soo wish I was that organized and ahead of the game. Hopefully, I'll have mine done next month. DH said we might even have enough $$ to paint the baby's room too (we're having some painting done in our living room/dining room)

jeeplover--glad your appt went well and that you like your dr.

As for me still busy as usual at work. I'm really looking forward to my shower on the 11th, can't wait. I know the invites just went out but I can't help but stalk my registeries!

Here are my confessions: I've eaten salad dressing that had red wine in it a handful of times, still eat fast food at least 2x a week:o , done a few Kegels. I have had soda just in the last trimester I really didn't beforehand. Oh and I too move things above 20 lbs.

Jane - Your nursery looks great! I didn't even notice your valances need ironing. I thought they were pleats. Sorry about your dog.

Mel - Congrats on getting a shower! Can you post a pic of your Gap diaper bag? I'm looking at some of theirs right now.

Sully - I didn't do one Kegel my last pregnancy and haven't done one this one either. I don't think it affected me one bit during labor. WTEWYE probably explains how to do them. :)

Confessions - I have a Coke every once in a while when I get a craving. I'm totally addicted to HoHo's right now. It would help if they weren't on sale when I'm at the grocery. I'm also bad about Krispy Kreme donuts. Every so often I drink milk too close to when I'm taking my vitamin. And I don't drink near enough water.

Jennifer - nope, no pleats - just wrinkles from being folded in the packaging. :p but thanks! :)

I'm working on doing inventory in the lab now. This sucks. I'm just not up to crawling around on the floor and climbing on counters to reach high shelves anymore. :(

I think the qulity of the materials are very good. I was pleasently surprised considering it was only $40 or so. I will probably get another one that is a little more sophisticated, but this one is fun to start!

Question - Is anyone thinking about cloth diapering? I think DH and I might do this and i've read through the CD'ing thread in Parenting, but i wondered if anyone in here was too.

ETA: Here is my 30w0d belly shot. No stretch marks yet! And no itchy belly either (which is what i'm most happy about).

30wks today! :)

DH asked yesterday how far along I was (he knows approximate but doesn't keep track like I do) and I told him I'd be 30wks the next day. His repsonse was a very pouty - "that's not cool." I didn't point out that in only 7wks we'd be full term - I don't think he was ready to hear that.

My furniture has been ordered finally. So it should come in about 6wks, hopefully less.

The dog got better and then had a relapse last night. This is exhausting me. DH plans to rid the yard of all sticks, pine cones, etc since they seem to be the cause of a lot of his tummy issues. Hopefully that will help.

You look great Sevilla. :)

Seems like just yesterday we were posting pictures of our little bumps, my how we've grown. :)

Hooray for hitting 30 weeks, Jane!! And congrats on ordering the furniture!

Sevilla you look fantabulous! :) I've been thinking about cloth diapering, though I'd probably start after the summer (if I don't go back to work) -- if all goes well, we'd like to visit both sides of the family this summer and it'll be easier to use disposable while traveling (I know, I know, I *should* be more environmentally conscious than that... :o ). My main concern is that we live in an apartment complex and share washing machines, so I imagine I should ask everyone in the building if they are OK with us washing our um... very dirty diapers there :rolleyes: (we don't have diaper service in the area).

Mel great diaper bag!

Nothing much to report, am trying to psych myself up for cleaning the apartment... :cool:

Sal03
01-22-2006, 05:16 PM
cloth diapering we did not even consider this. not exactly environmentally friendly but with the amount of times per day I change diapers, I can not imagine not using disposables. Especially in the beginning with those huge blowout poops that are one of the joys of BFing :p

Jane YAY - so glad you finally got everything ordered!

Question for those of you who had to or have taken the 3 hour glucose test...I don't know how to eat this week. Obviously I don't want to mess around with the test and if I have GD I will take it seriously. But I just barely failed the 1 hour by a few points. Should I really limit my sugar this week? I would think so but then I have heard of one OB telling people to really carb load in the few days before the test so the glucala (spelling??) will not be such a shock to the system. My OB did not tell me anything about eating prior to the test except the annoying fasting the day of.

Sal: I would eat normally. Definitely *don't* od on carbs/sugar.

mel - I like that bag. I'm still deciding if I want something pink or neutral since I'll still have Caden's stuff in there too.

Jane - Congrats on being 30 weeks and getting the furniture ordered.

Sal - Both times I took the 3 hour I just watched what I ate the day before. I ate normal but didn't eat as much sugar as I normally would have. Of course I failed 1/4 the first time and passed all this time. Good luck!

cloth diapering - Not for me.

mel7dog
01-23-2006, 07:15 AM
Jennifer - Yes, I bought that bag before I knew it was a boy. Doesn't really matter to me, but I will most likely get another more neutral/sophisticated bag as well.

GT - Also wondering about "preparing for the test". I normally eat a a little candy almost everyday, should I skip this since my test is tomorrow?

cloth diapering - I did consider this, as I read it can save a lot of $ in the long run and be better for the baby's skin. But I am pretty sure we've desided not to use them. I can't imagine washing all those diapers everyday, espeically since we plan to be on the go a lot. I may use some every so often at home though.

charissa
01-23-2006, 07:48 AM
GT - I ate totally normal, I usually follow a "lower carb" type diet before I was pregnant. But after I found out about the pregnancy, just went back to eating normal balanced meals, and that includes candy, hehehe.

The night before my test I even shared a strawberry banana shake with DH at Rubys :), so I think if you have it you have it, if you don't, you don't.

I scored a 107 on my GT test, so I think it just depends on the individual.

Good luck ladies :)

Jane&Andy
01-23-2006, 08:32 AM
Sal - I didn't eat differently aside from following the instructions I was given the morning of the test.

briamcd
01-23-2006, 08:43 AM
I'm not eating differently b/c if i want to pass or fail based on how i'm going to be eating the rest of my pregnancy. If I eat "good" right before the test, and go back to my regular diet after the test... there really wouldn't be a point in the test. Ya know. I could still have GD and not know it that way.

Cloth Diapers - I think i'm going to have a hard enough time cleaning a poopy butt, I don't think I could also clean a poopy diaper. :) So, definetly disposal for me. Weak stomach.

Hi girls!

Confessions: I am the worst mommy :o I forget my prenatals all the time (like, I think I went 2 weeks without one.) I drink a dr pepper almost every day. I did an absolute TON of iced tea in the first trimester, and occasionally eat deli meat. I have had very little wine, and I'm not worried about that one anyway -- it's just so minimal. But I eat too much sugar, and too much fast food. Kegels? Ha! And I absolutely carry around too much weight; I really try not to, but I do still pick up my DD (she's 35 lbs) -- not because she needs to be carried; please, she's 4! But because I have always picked her up and loved on her and swung her around and it's just habit. My sister totally called me out on it...

Have yet to pick out a single diaper bag... but I totally agree that it doesn't matter at all whether you have a boy or girl; just get something that YOU think is cute and want to carry!

All you teeny women are taunting me LOL I'm normally a 12/14, but I do know that all 25-30 lbs of baby weight was GONE within 3 wks last time. Eating well, drinking tons of water and nursing are really amazing for a slightly overweight body!! Now the trick is to keep that going this time... I really slacked off after I was back to my regular weight last time. Need to keep it going and take advantage of the rapid-fuel burning my body will be doing and get to my ideal weight!!

Got to visit with my sister this weekend; she brought me yet another box of baby clothes -- we now have 3 full boxes, sized up to 1 year. I think we're pretty well set for a while on clothes! DH started to (finally) clear out the study while we were out of town, so we're almost ready to paint, assuming I can decide HOW I want to paint.

I'm going at lunch to get my BRU registry fixed -- they have got it messed up somehow and I can't update it online. I think my shower is going to be 2/25, so I want to get it ready to go pronto!

OK that's all I've got for now... sorry no personals -- I really will take notes one of these days. Talk to you soon!

mel - I like the diaper bag you picked out, I just wish it came in green. Most of my stuff is neutral colors, including all of my previous diaper bag. Even though we're having a girl this time, I'd like for everything not to be pink. Besides, DH might not like carrying a pink bag. :)

Hi everyone,

I hope all of you had a good weekend. Not much going on with me, DH is on a short business trip to San Diego until Thursday, so my parents spent last night with me. Oh and DH's parents went ahead and bought us our glider! We placed the order online from babyuniverse.com. DH tried the model we liked in the store and said he can't wait to start using the chair after I'm done nursing!

Our glider should be here by the end of March. Can't wait. I'm hoping I have energy this week since I can come home straight after work and do some cleaning in the nursery.

Oh Sal, i didn't eat any different when I took my test I just ate the same food I normally had been eating.

Hi ladies. I had my weekly appointment (ultrasound) today and started my NSTs (non stress tests). Both went well and baby passed both with flying colors. It's amazing to see how much he is growing. As the dr. commented today, he is really starting to look like a baby! My fluid levels are still "normal" and everything else looks great. Placenta is finally exactly where it should be.

I did find out today that my dr. is NOT inclined to induce me around 37 weeks as I had hoped. She wants me to make it to 39 weeks if the baby will go that far, but she said she would consider taking me off bedrest at 36 weeks (though my activity will be EXTREMELY limited) as long as the baby is not breech. So I guess I have 10 weeks of bedrest down, and possibly 10-13 to go. I can't believe I might have been on bedrest for 23 weeks by the time the baby comes. Wowzers.

Everything else is going well. I picked out the paint color for the nursery last week and hopefully my family will paint it for me soon. My DH is still away for military training, but looks like if all goes well he will finish on Feb. 27 and then have a two-day drive home. Fingers crossed!

~~~~~~~~~
Gina - Congrats on the glider! I'm still trying to decide about that one.
Txfish - That's wonderful about all of the clothes!
Sal - I just avoided my OJ the morning of my test. I scored a 113...not sure if skipping the OJ helped or not. I just had an English muffin and milk (I just did the one hour...but I had ice cream and sweets the night and day before).
Gotta run!
Sully - glad to hear you had another good appt. :)
Nothing much going on here. My belly button is quickly disappearing. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow morning and after that I start going more frequently. Wow, seems so odd to be in the final stretch already.
My dog is still really sick so I'm not getting much sleep these days so I'm not feeling very talkative.
I KNOW!!! Oh gosh, I have another appointment not this Friday, but next Friday, so I'm already going every two weeks, its SO weird.
Question - Is anyone else still sleeping on their stomach? I do... is that weird? I don't FALL asleep like that, well kind of, its more that I got to sleep on my side, but wake up on my belly... I asked the Doc about it last Friday when I was in, and he said "Your body will tell you when it can't/shouldn't do it anymore, as long as its comfortable, sleep how you want to. Soon your belly will be too big for that to be comfortable at all, but for now its fine."
Txfish
01-24-2006, 08:46 AM
charissa, I still sleep on my stomach too. I usually just rest one leg up on a pillow so I'm at a bit of an angle -- I go to sleep that way. I just cannot get comfortable on my side this time.
Sully, more great news! That is a long time on bedrest -- but all worth it. How are you decorating the nursery?
Jane, (hugs) sorry pup is sick again -- hope you get to catch up on rest soon.
Gina -- awesome on the glider! They are so comfortable :)
I'm still having the stroller issue from hell. LOL So now BRU is carrying one of Combi's infant carriers, along with a stroller it attaches to -- only two colors; mango & merlot. I actually really like the mango, but I'm still not totally sold on the stroller... I'd rather get the infant carrier & a snap-n-go. Well, BRU now sells Combi's snap-n-go also -- great, right? Wrong -- the infant carrier they carry there (only 1 model of the 3 that Combi makes) is the only one that will NOT attach to Combi's own "universal stroller". WTH?? I'm about to tear my hair out, and DH threatened me with moving to Bermuda if I mentioned "stroller" and "carseat" one more time LOL..... I'm going to USA Baby today to see if I can still get the carrier that I liked, and just go with the snap-n-go. No wonder I just carried DD around, instead of fooling with strollers last time! :D
Jane&Andy
01-24-2006, 09:31 AM
TXfish - thats really bizzare about BRU and Combi. Online they give a discount for buying the Combi Connection infant seat with the car seat carrier but then the description says it works with the Tyro and doesn't mention the Connection at all. :confused: The Cosmo EX sounds like a great stroller (comes in Carribean and Mango online) but it doesn't mention which infant seat it works with. :confused: ah, just found a new infant seat - the Centre EX - that works with that stroller.
The new Combi's are tempting but I think I'll stick with the Zooper since it works with the free Snugride I'm getting from my sister.
stomach sleeping - nope. thats been too uncomfortable for a long time. I just flop over from one side to the other.
Txfish
01-24-2006, 10:52 AM
Jane, yeah that's the one I looked at -- Combi's snap-n-go will hold the Tyro and the Connection, but not the Centre (the only one BRU carries.) [I had to go to Combi's website to confirm that it will hold the COnnection, too.] Apparently the Centre will *only* go on the Cosmo stroller... so why they even bother selling the snap-n-go, I don't know. Oh, and with classic Combi forethought, they sell the caribbean & mango colors in the stroller, only the mango in the carseat, and then you can get the "travel system" (ie, the exact same two pieces, for the exact same combined price) only in merlot. Oh, and also the Centre carrier is 3 lbs heavier than the Connection and has less padding. I continue to be annoyed. :P I'd stick with the Zooper, too, if I was you!
Jane&Andy
01-24-2006, 11:05 AM
TXfish - They have the Connection availble online - in Carolina Sky but not Claret. The Cosmo sounds good but I'd rather have it in Caribbean than Mango. It doesn't make sense that they'd sell it in Mango but not Caribbean. Of course, this seems to be a common theme with BRU - they only sell the Britax Roundabout with 2 different seat covers. I, of course, prefer it with the Puma print cover. :rolleyes:
Not much going on here. I had my 28w apt today and my GTT test. To my surprise the whole testing experience wasn't bad. I should know by tomorrow if I failed the 1 hour, though I am not too worried about it. My bp was good and my weight is up 19lbs, which seems like I lot to me, but I know is right in the normal range! My next apt is Feb 21
Does anyone else feel their apt's are boring? Mine lasted all of 7 min. Asked if I was going to BF, listened to baby's hb (150's), and told me to watch for pre term labor.
Mel I keep meaning to post that I love that diaper bag. I registered for a pink multicolored stripe one this time. I am tired of my navy bag! My appointments are pretty boring. Weight, BP, listen for the heartbeat, any questions, no? okay bye. :rolleyes: that is why I am starting to get excited for my 32 week sonogram. get to see the little one looking all chubby now!
due date buddy don't need one, I have a good friend on these boards who will post for me
GTT test and eating thanks everyone for posting what I already suspected. I am just eating normally this week and trying to cut down on the sugar a little which I should be doing anyway. I just REALLY am dreading the 3 hour and hope I pass!
Sully YAY for another good report!
So I can't even believe I am going to post this because I am just so grossed out and this is SO TMI and I did not even realize I had this until I saw someone post about it in the pregnancy threads. I have been feeling all this pain and pressure just thinking everything was expanding more and earlier the second time. But now I realize I have vaginal varicose veins. I seriously SERIOUSLY do not believe this. I don't have them on my legs at all so I was shocked. I totally jinked myself by saying how uneventful this pregnancy has been compared to dylan. right after that I failed my 1 hour and then THIS. :eek: I have my next appt on monday so I will see if there is anything I can do. I know, I am just so mature complaining about this when people like Sully barely can get out of bed!
Mel - No you're definitely not the only one, I feel like my appointments are so boring, and even my Doc was like, well you just have NO problems... my DHs Best Friend is a Resident right now and he's like, well of course your pregnancy is boring, you're in good health, your blood pressure is low, you take care of yourself... you're the dream pregnant lady, hahaha. He works in a very not so affluent neighborhood, so he gets a lot of crazies and people who aren't really taking care of them or their babies... sad, but true.
Sal03 - eek, I read about that wow... I hope the doc will have some remedies for you.
As for me - I was stressing last night... x-post from Emotional Support:
So I have cousins in Chicago and I'm in SoCal...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my family to death, I really do, being filipino, its shoved down your throat from day 1, that you do anything for them, which I would...
So my cousin calls (well really his wife) on Sunday night, to say they're coming out for a short 3 day visit, Yeah! I'm genuinely excited, then I realize, they probably want to stay here at my house, which on a normal day wouldn't be a big deal, but here are some reasons I had a mini-panic attack:
We're painting the nursery and our bonus room
We're also cleaning the two garages so boxes are EVERYWHERE
I'm 7 months pregnant, and moving things just hurts... it really does
our house is in a wreck b/c we had to empty everything out of every room we were painting
my DH is in Vegas for work, so I am home alone now
the extra bed isn't set up b/c we had to break it down to get it out of the room to paint
I STILL offered them to stay here - which they are right now, but I and DH talked about and I could tell he was a little annoyed about the short notice and I honestly was too, but I still offered b/c they're family. I just wish I had had more than a day's notice to "prep" the house b/c honestly NOTHING was where it should be... including DH
I just happened to mention this to my Mom, and she got all pissy and acted like I was being a little brat about it, and that I should just suck it up, which I DID DO, shown by the fact that they're still here. What she didn't get was that I was just venting b/c I was tired and I didn't know what they're plans were, etc...
So am I being TOTALLY unreasonable for just wanting to talk to someone about it????? She keeps claiming that she would NEVER feel that way if family came to stay with her, and I'm like GEEZ, normally I'm not, its just the circumstances under which this visit is happening is what is bugging....
Plus I personally woudln't just give 24 hours notice to someone if I was crashing, but that's ME... so for her to say she'd never get upset b/c of the lack of notice, just shows we're DIFFERENT, and she doesn't get it... I kept saying, well maybe YOU would do that, but I wouldn't... like how they would come without a few days notice, but I WOULDN'T.... ugh...
What is wrong here?? I didn't tell them to get a hotel, I OFFERED, they didn't even ask, b/c of course I don't want them to stay anywhere else... My mom is just driving me crazy... HELP!!!!
Am I being totally irrational???????????
Sal03
01-24-2006, 01:47 PM
Charissa I actually read your other post and did not have time to reply. That is SO typical of the way my mom is sometimes. I call her to vent and she turns it into this whole conversation how I am selfish or even sometimes makes it about her. don't get me started...
You are TOTALLY justified in being annoyed about the whole thing and I think you are too nice for inviting them to stay! You have enough going on!
01-25-2006, 07:49 AM
charissa-you are not being irrational at all! I don't think that is fair to you that you were only given 24 hours notice. Who travels like that anyways unless it is a family emergency! Also my mom would be the same way especially with the whole guilt thing and family thing! Absolutely ridiculous. I hope that your cousins are not too much trouble for you and at least appreciate the trouble you went through to provide them with a nice place to stay!
Had our first childbirth class on Monday night. It was interesting. There are 11 couples total in the class with due dates starting in the beginning of March to mine in the end of April. It is funny to watch the reactions on different peoples faces when talking about various aspects of childbirth. I know I probably made some funny faces as well although alot of this does not come to much of a surprise to me. I think we will get a lot out of this class or at least that is what I hope for. The only problem is that the chairs that we have to sit in are so uncomfortable-my back was killing me!
Charissa, that's awful. I read your other post, too, but realized my only response was to complain about my own inconsiderate relatives LOL Sorry your mom couldn't just let you vent.
Mel, yep, appts are boring, pretty much. But I do try to remember that it's good, because it does mean we're healthy! And before long, it'll get more exciting, because we'll go every week and there will be the whole "status check" (ooh, an internal! FUN!) :) Honestly, I just make a little celebration for myself every time I go, whether there was anything exciting that happened or not -- take myself for ice cream, or something, just to concentrate on why I was there, kwim? I don't want OB appts to be so routine that they're meaningless. That's part of why I always try to get the last appt of the day, so I can leave work and when I get done at the dr, just play or go get DD early, etc.
Off to work; hoping dd doesn't come down with a fever today -- she was a little hot last night. Since my boss called in sick, too, it makes it difficult to leave. I hate working right now.
Sevilla
01-25-2006, 07:58 AM
Charissa: That would be so frustrating! Especially b/c you just needed to vent and your mom took it as a criticism of family instead. I hope your relatives don't end up staying too long and you're able to get some down time soon.
jeeplover: Glad the birthing class went well, but ugh on the uncomfortable chairs!
Appointments: Yep, pretty boring over here too. I'm down to every two weeks now. The most 'interesting' thing I can think of that will happen at them now will be going over my birth plan and things like that.
Birthing Classes: We just had our fourth Bradley birthing class a few nights ago and so far we're really enjoying them. There are two other couples due within two weeks of me plus our instructor. I think watching the birth videos has been the most educational part for me so far, and also for DH.
I had my appt this morning. Only gained 2 more lbs and my BP was normal (which is fairly miraculous considering the ongoing drama with my sick dog). Joey is head down with his back on my left side and feet at my ribs. I know he still has plenty of room to move but they'd never discussed his position before and I was curious. He's measuring right on target and his heart beat was 148bpm. This was my first time seeing this doctor and he let me listen to the heartbeat for longer than any of the others have - I like him. :) I got a list of recommended pediatricians and will work on that once I feel up to it (once the dog is recovered).
I'm home with the dog today. He's been having intestinal issues so they sent him home this morning (DH ran him in to the vet this morning) with laxatives (he may have something stuck in there that he needs help getting out). So I figured I should stay home and keep an eye on him and walk him a lot. If this doesn't work we move on to more detailed x rays and then surgery. He's already cost us a small fortune, I am so ready for him to get better. Oh well, I guess this is what our tax refund is for. :(
Jane Sorry about your puppy!
We're starting our childbirth classes at the end of February; I cannot wait! And I ordered the crib the other day; it's Bonavita "Carla" in pecan. I loved the material (hardwood!) and the drawer, though would have preferred the look of "Carslile", but they didn't have it in pecan. Anyway, I'm now on pins and needles, waiting for it to arrive...!
Jane - I'm sorry Butter has been sick but glad he is improving!
briamcd - Hope your kitty feels better.
---
I have to do a fly by for now. I hope to be able to catch up this afternoon.
Classes are going well. We had our third one on Monday. DH now is worried about the epidural and wants me to try to go med-free. I think all the med and c-section talk scared him.
We had our 3D/4D u/s yesterday and it was so amazing. I'll post pictures tonight or tomorrow hopefully. He wanted to keep his hand and arm in his face so it took awhile. Oh and he is definitely a BOY! :)
We also interviewed two peds and have one more interview scheduled for next week. Right now I'm not sure who we will go with.
Oh... this past weekend we ended up ordering our glider. We changed our minds and went with this Dutailier upholstered glider in a green micro fiber. We were at USA Baby and decided to look one last time and ended up liking this one more than the Shermag glider.
So much to catch up on, I had a horrible cold but am better now.
Jeeplover – So happy to hear your appt. went well with the high risk OB. Thanks for the tip on the Christmas Tree Shop, there’s one just down the road from my office, never thought to check there. Your bedding is adorable.
Txfish – love your bee bedding, I think it’ll look great with cherry. Hope dd doesn’t get sick.
Sully – glad to hear your appts. continue to go so well
Jane - oooh, a new Honda CRV, lucky you! Thanks for the new thread. Your nursery is so cute. And a big congrats on finally getting your furniture ordered, you must be so relieved.
Sevilla – you look great.
Sorry to hear about the sick fur babies.
We have our 2nd birthing class tonight, I enjoyed it last week. We have about 11 couples and all are due in March. Our chairs are terribly uncomfortable also.
I had an appt. yesterday, the babies are now 2 lbs. and 1 lb. 14.5 oz at my 26 wk u/s last week, which the midwife said is just fine and they’re doing well. They’re both in the breech position and appeared to be snuggling each other. My belly is measuring 39 cm. I, unfortunately, am not so fine. I guess there was something they found in my urine sample plus my b/p was a bit high. So I was sent to the lab immediately after my appt. for a urinalysis and some bloodwork. And starting this morning, I will be collecting my urine for the next 24 hours, ugh. I did notice after my shower yesterday when I was putting on lotion that my feet and ankles seemed just a bit puffy. I’m hoping this is all due to the cold I’ve had for the past 10 days. It’s over with now but I definitely was not eating all that much, nor getting enough fluids while I was sick. But somehow I did manage to gain 4 lbs. in 2 weeks.
uskiku-We are looking at one of the Bonavita cribs as well just can't remember the name of it.
Jane-Glad to hear your puppy is doing better-poor little guy! Cats to me seem more resilient than dogs but maybe that is because they are smaller and have less to deal with-not really sure.
relly-definitely check out Christmas Tree Shop, I was definitely surprised when they had a changing table/dresser combo there. They also had a crib but it was really not a nice one. Glad to hear that the twins are doing well and that your childbirth classes are going well. What is up with the uncomfortable chairs?
uskiku that is so funny! that is the crib we got! Except in white. We got an unbelievable deal at Buy Buy Baby. It was on sale for $199 and we had a 20% coupon. We saw it in the pecan too - so pretty!
Relly so sweet that the babies were snuggling. Hope everything works itself out and was just due to your cold
Kopper can't wait to see the u/s pics. those 3D ones are so cool!!
My 32 week u/s is scheduled for Feb 10. I am so excited to see my little one on the screen again!
Txfish - That's a great idea about the appts. I should start treating myself to ice cream too! :)
Jane - Sorry about your dog. Hope he's feeling better soon! I wish I had your problem of not napping.
Kopper - That's a great chair!
relly - Yeah for the babies growing. Collecting urine doesn't sound like much fun.
Sal - I'm jealous you get another u/s. We're going to do the 3D/4D one but we have to pay for it. The BRU near us has the 06 Peg out so we might try it out soon. I still have no idea what stroller we're going to get. Hopefully USA Baby will have the other brands in soon so we can try them all out and make a decision.
mom and relatives issue - Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the confirmation that I wasn't totally irrational. :) Everything is all good now, I think my mom was just going through some ups and downs and I wasn't helping any, she's still going through menopause.
announcements - Who is planning to do them? And how much do you plan on spending? DH and I haven't really discussed, but I want to do some simple ones, just so we don't have to call everyone and their mom, haha.
Jennifer I am definitely having more of a dilemna this time with the double stroller!! LOL We know we are getting the Graco tandem, my grandma is getting it for us. We'll use that as long as the baby is in the snugride so that buys us some time with the double. I want to wait until the 2006 Zooper tangos are out. I keep calling but they are not in stores yet.
Announcements we did ours for DS on Shutterfly. We used a really sweet picture of him sleeping on the boppy and they came out great. They were the 4 x 8 photo cards and I think were around 60 cents each. The price depends on how many you order and they are always having sales. We are going to do the same thing this time. okay shameless excuse to post photo - here is the pic we used :D
Charissa glad you are feeling better about things. and I'll repeat it again. there is NO way you were being irrational
Jane Hope your dog is doing better!!
The bedding came yesterday from Pottery Barn. YAY!! It is the pink casey striped. I love it. just what we were looking for. pretty and bright but not t
