Our baby's heartbeat has consistently been around 156-160 (was 156 at my last appt at 16 weeks). Everyone keeps saying "oh, you're definitely having a girl". I would love a little girl, but just wondering if a lot of you ended up with a boy, even though the h/b was high. I know it's still 50-50 right? I just find it funny how many people are like, "Yup - girl!" :D

With our little man, his heartrate ranged from 151-168 at our appointment at 10 weeks. Just now, at 34+ weeks, his heartbeat is down in the 140's. According to that, he should be a girl. :p

And yeah, I would assume still 50/50 - not sure, though!

I'm having a boy. His HB was 16bpm0-170's and then finally at 20weeks it was 142bpm.

I'm very curious about this as well. We have 8 weeks before we find out, but s/he has a h/b in the 160s-170s and I've been wondering about this same question. :D

Well, when I told the midwife the baby's h/b was 160 at the 10 and 14 week appt, she was like "oh, usually it's higher early on", but then she checked it at 16 weeks and it was still holding steady at 156, so she was like "there's a good chance". I just thought it would be fun to see if a lot of people were coming back with high h/b's and saying girl. :) Guess I will just have to hold out til my u/s in 2 and 1/2 weeks!

beevo congrats on your boy! I followed some of your story on WC and am so happy that everything is going well for you! :D

I'm having a little girl, and her heartrate has always hung out around 130s-140s. I think it might have gone into the 150s a couple times, but in general, it's stayed on the lower end. Congrats on your pregnancy!

We are not finding out the gender prior to birth, but the heartbeat has me convinced that Peanut is a boy - at the last appointment (33 weeks) it ranged from 120-140 - leftrightrepeat you give me hope that Peanut could be a girl. Everyone is predicting boy....and I secretly would love a little girl.

At 13 weeks, our little guy was at 167 and since about week 17 and on, it's been right around 150 every time. It seems like it's hard to tell just looking at the heartrate, but it sure is fun to guess. :)

We're having a boy and his heartrate at the 8w u/s was 179. At the 11w u/s it was 167. The 15w it was still in the high 160's (can't remember the actual #). It dropped to 149 at our big u/s appt at 18w2d. I had heard the myth about rates and genders so I was really thinking "GIRL". Imagine my surprise to hear that I was wrong. :)

Based on my experience, I wouldn't put too much stock in that old wives tale. Although, it is fun to play around with! ;)

Andrew's heartrate was consistently in the 140's to mid 150's. We were not able to hear the hearbeat at the first ultrasound, only go to see it. We didn't hear the hearbeat until the big ultrasound and then after that at our appointments, so I didn't have any early data to go on.

Alex's HB was consitently above 150 and at times into the 160's and he is obviously not a girl! So for me at least the HB was not a good way to predict gender.

OK, you ladies have demonstrated that it's definitely still 50-50 and the guessing game is back on! :) I can't wait to find out what I'm having now!

Ditto for me - almost the exact same numbers, too! 180 at the first U/S....and he's definitely a boy!

Our baby's HB was always above 150, in the early stages close to 160 and we have a boy!

Our baby's HB is always over 160. I was getting excited (b/c I secretly want a girl) until I came in here! I guess it really is 50/50. Hey...boys are cool too. We'll know soon either way!

I have heard that girls tend to have higher heart rates than boys. I know this is not a fact of law, but is more of a trend. I wanted to see if the trend held true for any of the CC moms. Mostly this is out of morbid curiousity for myself. I am about 12 weeks along and my baby's heart rate has been 163 and 165 bpm.

Any takers? What was your baby's heart rate in utero and what was the sex? Does it correspond with the trend that girls have higher heart rates?

At 16 weeks, my baby's heartrate was around 160 bpm. I have a very handsome son :)

I had a bunch of NSTs throughout my pregnancy b/c of complications. My baby's heartrate was usually 140-160 and she's a girl. :)

at every appointment so far my baby's heartrate has been between 140 and 150 and she is (according to the ultrasound) almost certainly a girl...

According to the ultrasound, we have a son. I'm 21 weeks along now. His heartbeat has always been 155-160 so far; I have another appt. this week and will let you know if it changes. :)

It is totally a wives tale but it rang true for us. Our baby's heartbeat is always around 150 (or more) and we are having a girl.

With DS the HB was always above 160 and he is obviously a boy!

Now with #2 I am only 9 weeks but this HB has been consistently higher than DS so we are hoping for a girl!

We were told we're having a girl (and I saw the girlie parts myself on the sono)...her HBs have been above 140 everytime except one...that time it was about 135ish and I'm told she was asleep.

Her first heartrate at 12 weeks was over 160 bpm...all babies have a fast heart rate in the beginning as their hearts are regulating.

Since then, her h/b has been between 130-160. No rhyme or reason.

My DS's heart rate was always between 140 and 145 except for the very first one, which was 159 (as someone mentioned, the first one is always fast).

Lets see, the first one was 178, then I had an u/s at 12 weeks, and it was 171. DH was positive it was a girl. Next apointments leading up to the BIG u/s were 168. At the u/s, the HR was 149 and he was very clearly a boy! Now his HB's vary between 140 and 148.

Didn't hold true for me!

At 13 weeks, my baby boy's heartbeat was 171. :) Even at 20 weeks, his heart was beating in the 160s. Started more into the 140-150 range around weeks 25-30.

Ok, you ladies have convinced me that the heart rate vs. sex "trend" is completely bogus! As a matter of fact, it seems like the boys in this thread have higher heart rates then the girls. Interesting!

Both my kids heartbeat was 156 and I have a boy and a girl. I thought for sure I was going to have another boy sicne the eharbeat was the say but nope I had a girl the second time. My dr told me there in no truth behind the heardbeat and the gender.

Our babe's heartbeat registered as follows:

8w - 179bpm
11w - 167bpm
15w - 160bpm
18w - 141bpm

And, the 18w u/s revealed a penis. ;)

I also posted a thread about this a while back and got similar responses...it is just an old wives' tale! :D Our baby's h/b has always been around 160 and everyone kept saying "oh- you are definitely having a girl!" Well, we found out two weeks ago that we are having a boy!

According to the chinese calendar and the heart rate which was 162 at 12 weeks, I had my hopes set on having a girl. Then we had our ultrasound at 16 weeks and were (very obviously....DS is not shy at all) proven wrong. We are expecting a baby boy early this November.
