Has anyone else seen this movie? When I saw it was coming out--I was SO excited! I LOVED that book in college! I had to read it for a humanities class. I LOVED the ending...the black flag. Hehehe...

Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

DH is very excited and we're planning to see it this weekend. The trailers look very good.

I found out it was playing at a near-by theater and went Friday night.

Afterwards, I was VERY glad that 5pm was still considered "matinee" and was only $2.50. It's a good story...if you haven't read the book.

I wasn't impressed. If I didn't know what I was seeing, and the names weren't used (Tristan, Isolde), I would NEVER have guessed what I was watching! NOTHING like the book AT ALL! I know, I know, the book and the screen-play are entirely different entities.

I read the script (by Dean Georgaris) when it first went around town a couple years ago. "Tristan and Isolde" is one of my favorite classic stories and I absolutely hated the script. Hated it.

That it's a January release makes me think the movie isn't good--- January is a "dumping ground" for bad films. And also, as much as I love James Franco, I think he's a poor casting choice here.

That's just my very negative two cents...

It's one of those stories you wouldn't think they could screw up! I kept waiting for the love potion to come up...and it NEVER did!! It was SO pivotal to the story itself! They couldn't help themselves! And...one of my favorite parts--the black flag at the end!!! Not there!!!

Drat. :(

We didn't get to go see it yet, and I know DH is going to be SO disappointed to hear it's nothing like the legends.

I forwarded DH the comments and he said that not all the versions of T&I are the same, so things like not having the potion, etc., don't necessarliy mean the movie is complete bunk. His main area of study was medieval lit., so he still wants to see the movie for himself. We'll make another try this wekend.
