we had a GREAT night's sleep last night! Of course i KNOW when i post things like that in here, then the next night is awful...but here i go again!
Hayley slept from 10:30 to 7! It was so nice to not wake up in the middle of the night for a feeding! She's had these great night sleeps every now and again..so i'm hoping that it will become the norm sooner than later!

weight so i'm at a standstill w/my weight loss. I gained about 28 lbs while preg and I can't seem to get these last 9-10 lbs moving off of me! I started exercising a bit, it's so hard to do that w/an infant. i usually put her in the travel swing on the floor in front of my elliptical machine and hope that she'll be calm for a 1/2 hour or so!
So this week i'm joining weight watchers. I did WW about 5 years ago and it worked for me, so i'm hoping that it will again!

hope everyone has a great weekend!

Ok, I have to cut out all chocolate from my diet, not even a little bit. *sigh* I couldn't eat it while pg (due to acid reflux) and now because of bf. Last night I had a little chocolate and after I fed Owen he was up until 1:30am with gas, screaming. It was totally my fault and I felt bad. But he finally got to sleep. The Mylecon helped him out for a little bit but then after 15 min he would be screaming. It was not a fun night.

weight I too am struggling and am very far from my goal weight. Gained 61lbs (ugh...that is disgusting to say) and have lost 23lbs and still lose a pound and a half whether I"m doing WW or not. I can't wait to get the OK to exercise!

JRPAGV

sem426: I can't believe your little one slept that long! That's wonderful!

jaredsgirl: Sorry the chocolate upset Owen. :(

Weight Loss: I gained 38 pounds during my pregnancy. I've lost 20, but still have 18 stubborn pounds to go. I want to start WW, but I doubt my DH will pay for me to join online because he doesn't believe I'll stick with it. ((Sigh)) I love food so much! I'm hoping to get the okay to start exercising again at my 6 week pp appointment on Tuesday. I've never been big on exercising, but I'm definitely more motivated now than I've ever been.

Everyone has such beautiful babies!! This new thread is exciting!!

Sem-are you doing WW online or are you going to go to meetings and all that jazz. I'm going to join again as well, probably just online, so I was just curious.

Things with Hayden are going well. I think he went through a growth spurt the past couple days, cause he was c-r-a-n-k-y and hungry! But he seems to be back to his happy self again.

Here's what I wrote in my journal a few days ago (I'm too lazy to retype it!) to let you know what's been going on with me lately.

He's a pretty good sleeper. Michael's aunt gave us BabyWise the book as a gift and they're parent-directed feeding method has been working well. I feed him every 3 hours during the day, sometimes having to wake him up and then let him go at night. We usually put him down somewhere between 10 and 11 pm and he usually will sleep until 2-3:30 am and then he'll feed, go right back to sleep and then he's up again at 6:30-7 ish. So it's not too terrible.

One thing that has been going on with me is the breastfeeding. I just don't enjoy it. Weird I know, most women love the bonding time and "down-time" to breastfeed, but for some reason I don't. I mean we have it down pat, he's a great latcher, and I produce great milk apparently, but it's just not something I'm enjoying. I also am completely unhappy with how huge and saggy (TMI, I know) my boobs have become. All my reasons are purely selfish ones, I want the freedom, it just seems easier to feed in public, my boobs won't be so huge, things like that. I've struggled with the decision, but my sister said that if I'm going to wean him, do it before breastfeeding him becomes resentful. Where I get annoyed or angry for having to feed him. I'm not sure if this is a hormonal thing, or if breastfeeding just isn't for me, but I do feel guilty since we do it well, some other women would love to be able to do it. But it really just isn't for me. His ped said that they usually reap all the benefits of breastmilk by 6 weeks, so by the time I fully wean him, we'll have passed that mark. And I'm not worried about that. I was a formula baby, my niece and nephews were formula babies, and they are fine. It's just a tough decision I've had to make. That, and my husband and MIL really enjoy feeding him as well. So I'm sure it's the right decision for me. I went back and forth with the pumping and bottling thing, but I've decided against it.

So I've started to slowly wean him to formula. He gets it at his 12:30 pm feeding and his 9:30-10:00 pm feeding so far. And it's going well. Every few days I'm going to introduce a formula bottle instead of my boob and see how we do. That and "they" say this weaning also helps with the engorgement problem.

So that's about it for now. I'm looking forward to my 6 wk post partum doctor's appt. to get my okay to start back up with the exercising and whatnot. I'm DYING to get a pair of skis on and get my ski legs back. My wonderful husband got me the treadmill I wanted for Christmas/birthing present, and even though I probably shouldn't be, I've been walking and doing some slow jogging on it, and that has been doing wonders for my stamina and my emotional state! I feel great when I'm done.

and to be honest, the weaning has made me a happier person, emotionally. I of course, still feel terrible every now and again about my decision, I dunno, I think "the world" sometimes makes women out to be some sort of failures if they don't breastfeed. But I'm sure it's the right decision for me. And so far, he doesn't mind one bit. And he's been sleeping better at night. He'll go down at about 10-10:30 and sleep until 4ish now before he's up to eat again. Can't complain about that!

So that's about it for now, sorry for the long post! We're off for an exciting trip of grocery shopping!

ACK! Look at all the cutie-patooties we have in this thread!!!

JRPAGV thx for pointing out my incorrect stats! Will update them now! Gracias!

Sem can Hayley talk to Joey and tell him about sleeping longer stretches at night??? My little guy seems to have reverted back to 2 hour stretches from the 3.5 that we worked so hard to get too!

aprilbride2002 I've begun to slowly incorporate more bottles into DS's menu. I'm not looking to wean completely yet, but it is SO nice to not be on 'boob call' 24/7! I hear ya on the guilt though... but when those feelings start creeping in, I just think of DH getting up for the 2am feed instead of me and that pushes the guilt far far away. ;)

Alb that pic of Zoe is so cute - I love how she's laughing!

Jareds Girl I had to do the elimination thing... no milk/eggs, no citrus juices and very limited caffeine. I cheat every now and again, but DS has handled the cheat days much better since he's gotten older. Hopefully in a few weeks you can try the chocolate and have positive results.

Weight um, yeah, add me to the standstill list. I gained a total of about 46pds w/ the pregnancy. Of that, I lost 34 immediately after birth. I'm stuck w/ the last 12, plus the 10 that I was trying to lose prior to TTC. I joined NYSC last Sunday and, wanna laugh... the trainer who signed me up called on Weds to see how my workouts have been going. Umm... they haven't started yet. :o I'm determined to kick off my workouts tomorrow - Sunday's the start of the new week... why start working out at the end of a week right? HAHA! I was really hoping to have the weight completely gone by the christening, but that's in 2 weeks and I'm no Houdini. Glad to hear that everyone else is looking to lose weight - we can be each others cheerleaders!

Baby Acne I was lurking in the old Dec thread and saw that some of your kiddos have some acne. Those of you who BF - try rubbing some breast milk onto the acne. I read this tip on the parenting boards and tried it on a whim and low and behold, it worked for us. His acne wasn't very bad though so maybe thats why it worked? Who knows, worth a shot though.

Sleep - what's that? Our pediatrican told us that babes start sleeping better once they reach around 14 pounds. DS has a couple more pounds to go - sooooooo looking forward to longer sleep stretches! We've begun putting him in his crib for afternoon naps as well as for some 'play time'. We installed the symphony in motion mobile and he LOVES it! I highly recommend purchasing one if you don't have a mobile already!

10 weeks / 1 day
I’ve just recently joined the November Mommies thread, so am looking forward to getting to know everyone! Thank you for setting up this new thread.

Here’s a recent picture of Abby celebrating New Year’s Eve:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6df35b3127cce96ca77b03f4e00000016108BYuGzRw0a0

Weight Loss: I’m back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but wasn’t too thrilled with that, so am trying to lose a bit more. In the beginning, breastfeeding definitely helped me lose most of the weight. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed and I now can’t eat everything in the house and not exercise and still lose the weight!

April Bride – I know what you mean re: feeling pressured to do something because it’s supposed to be “the right thing” to do. My issue is using the pacifier – Abby is getting more and more attached to it and I am constantly thinking “Uh-oh, this may be an issue later” (not to mention the “tsk-tsking” from disapproving relatives). While I still have occasional pangs when I pop it in her mouth for naps, I know that we’re doing what works and what is right for our family.

Abby is doing really well sleeping and the last three nights she has slept in her crib in her room (previously she was in the PnP in our room) For two of those three nights she’s slept from 10 pm ish until 7:30 am ish! While she had done this occasionally in the past, it was much more common for her to wake at 4am to feed. In addition to sleeping longer, I think she’s sleeping more soundly. My husband snores and I don’t think I realized how it may have been disturbing her. I still run to her room with every little sound on the monitor, but I think that will pass soon and I’ll get more sleep, too!

I was really hoping to have the weight completely gone by the christening, but that's in 2 weeks and I'm no Houdini.

Ha ha ha ha! That left an image of you doing some miraculous twist, shedding your post-pregnancy skin and standing there with a fabulous new body and the old skin flopped around your feet. Miracle escape from shackles of post-pregnancy body!

Aprilbride2002 - It sounds like you gave breastfeeding an honest shot and it doesn't work for you. I think not being resentful of your DS is more important than appearing like the 'perfect' mother, god knows there is enough pressure and enough opinions out there on how to do it 'right'! Honestly, there are lots of times I don't really like breastfeeding either, especially when he is fussy while feeding for a second time in less than two hours, trying to rip my nipple off, it is the middle of the night and my dh can't relief me because he lacks the equipment. I think there is a selfish side to wanting to continue to breastfeed as well - secretly I like that I know Isaac better than anyone, that I see him in more phases and moods than anyone - the rational 'it is better for him because ad nauseum stuff' really doesn't hold much weight in the middle of the night when I'm exhausted ;) .

Advice - Anyone tired of advice already? My dear mother - who really was a great mom, especially to us as babies and children - can never have a conversation with me now without suggesting I do something differently. Today it was the suggestion that I let him go longer between feedings. So now, of course, I'm feeling paranoid and wondering if I'm causing his fussiness by making him eat too often (and fussiness is relative, he rarely fusses more than 10 minutes at a time before we get him settled or asleep). I usually only let him go a a maximum of three hours between feeds during the day, even if I have to wake him (though sometimes I will let it go longer if I'm in the middle of something I want to finish) and then let him go as long as he wants at night which has never been more than four hours. How often did you let your dc go between feeds at 3-4 weeks? We are breastfeeding and I let him eat sooner if he's rooting.

AprilBride ~

I'm glad that you're not beating yourself up re: breast feeding. It's smart of you to realize what works best for you & your family. The important thing is that you make sure you are happy. The baby will do just fine w/o the breast milk. ;) There are reasons things turn out the way they do & no one way of doing something is right for everyone.

Advice ~

I get along really well with my IL's. I have 2 MIL's (one is his stepmother) & a FIL. My FIL & SMIL have stopped by here a few times after they go out to breakfast. Anyway.. yeah I'm already getting a little annoyed & trying to ignore the comments from him. They aren't too bad but it's enough to really get on my nerves.

He thinks that the baby needs to be left alone more...even left in a room to cry so he gets used to it. He is 2 weeks old! He's been making comments like this since he was born. I mean it's not like he's 6 months old & I pick him up all the time. He's 2 weeks old & if he's crying or fussy...it means he's either hungry, tired or just needs to be held. You cannot spoil a newborn!

So I know that he's from the old school way of thinking where you should toughen up the baby..but come on! And the hard part is that him saying these things is starting to get into my husband's head too. So I have to go back & do damage control after each time his dad's been here & remind my husband...Uh no! The baby needs something that's why he's acting irritable. It's so frustrating.

My MIL (stepmother) doesn't say anything..because I think she knows that it's not wise to. She made a comment one time while we were all in the car..about how some people she knew.. DIL & MIL..were great friends until the baby came. And basically the disagreements between them about what was best for the baby was what caused the problem.

I'm thinking that she wanted my opinion on this. So I respond that..well yeah, that can really ruin relationships. I said that I was sure it must be hard for some parents to see their kids doing things with the baby that they don't think are ok & vice versa..the parents seeing the granparents with the grandkid(s).

I said that the grandparents have to realize that times have changed & that the parents are getting advice from Dr.'s & various articles..& it makes much more sense to follow that advice than it does to follow the grandparents advice. I think she got the hint. My FIL apparently did not though.

I will not be going this time around because it is getting to hard to read what my angel baby should be doing. So I am coming in to say good bye to the November Mom. It was nice getting to know you all. You can always leave me a message to see how I am doing. Maybe once we can start to try to have another one then maybe it will be easier for me to stop over. I wish you all great success with you little ones. It have been 11.5 weeks since I had the angel. I am doing well but it don't have anything contribute now as the little ones are getting bigger.

advice Well I am about ready to sock it to my mom and MIL. First, my MIL, at Christmas, told us we were not getting enough sleep. I didn't feel that sleep deprived and when I did I would nap. But I refused to nap if I didn't feel tired, why bother when I can spend time with DS. MIL went as far as to call us every day after to tell us to sleep, give DH a 5 min lecture on how much sleep we were getting and writing a letter to my mom about how much sleep we are getting. My mom even thought it was ridiculous. Then there is my mom giving me breastfeeding advice (when she never did it) and making me feel like I am not feeding DS enough (he is gaining exactly what he should be, so I know he is ok) and that it is all my fault any tiime he cries or has a little gas. I know they mean well but I specifically said no advice unless I ask for it, while I was pg. Oh well, guess I just need to learn to deal with it.

postkalidurga I would let Owen go 2-2.5 hours between feedings. If he needed it earlier, I would feed him. And I got the same advice, so I totally feel your pain (or worry) about the feedings. If he is gaining the weight he needs to, just trust that what you are doing is right.

JRPAGV/Sebskidon't be too jealous of my DD's sleeping just yet...I'm sure it was fluke and she'll go back to only a couple of hours at a time starting tonight! we shall see.

aprilbride2002 I'm planning on doing WW in person. I think I will go to meetings once a week. For me, I feel like if I do it online then there is no one "watching" me and keeping "tabs" on me..does that make sense? If I know I have to go to the meeting each week and weigh in it will help me keep on track. Hopefully, DD will be a good girl when i bring her to the meeting since I'm going in the afternoon.
I am not BF'ing and sometimes when I tell people they say "so ..you didn't WANT to BF?" with a condescending look. I give you credit for trying BF'ing and if you don't enjoy it then stopping is your decision and don't let anyone else make you feel bad about it.

symphony in motion mobile we have this too! Seb I'm so glad to hear joey loves it. Hayley is still in her bassinet, but wer are hoping to transition soon to the crib and hopefully she'll love the mobile too:)

clzj good luck to you and your family. I will try and keep updated with what is going on with you.

For those of your who are formula feeding how much is your baby taking?

I think I am being too hard on my little one. She is only taking 3oz and I think she should be eating more?? Before her open heart surgery she was eating 2.5oz and now she is eating 3oz but I feel like she should be eating 4oz? I dont know I am having a hard time finding a bottle that works with her. Which bottles do you find that work well. I was using the Medela and then I tried to drink out of it and I couldnt get anything. I think she is picky about the nipple but not sure. I think I am expecting her to just start eating better right away and I think I am expecting to much.

Thanks for listen to me vent, I am just worried about her.

Krystal--Kelly does anywhere from 3 oz to 5 oz. Do you make a 4 oz bottle, and she only drinks 3 oz? If so, then I wouldn't worry about it. We use the playtex drop in bottles, btw.

Weight Loss--What's that? I gained somewhere around 60 pounds ( ), and I have only dropped about 20 so far. I feel so UGLY! Nothing fits, and I can't wait to lose some more of this weight. The money just isn't there for a gym membership yet, so after taxes, that's what I plan to do.

Sleep--Ugh. Kelly sleeps off and on through the night, but wakes up a LOT more than once or twice. It seems like Ethan was sleeping a lot better at this point, but she also cries substantially less than he did.....

Hi Everyone! Subscribing and looking forward to getting to know the November Mommies!

sleep Cole has given us a hard time about going in the bassinet and crib from day one. I try to get him used to it during the day for his naps, but it is almost a guaranteed way to wake him, even out of the most deep sleep. We weren't thrilled about cosleeping, but did cave and buy a Snuggle Nest from BRU and he will go in that for about 1/2 the night...the rest is spent in my arms. He wakes every 3 hours like clockwork to eat and only gave us a couple nights were he went for 4. I'm hoping it gets a little easier in the next few weeks - he is a great baby otherwise.

breastfeeding I agree with PP's about the challenges of how demanding it is and sometimes resent it, myself. I can totally relate to your feelings of guilt about disliking it, b/c I too have been blessed with no problems with it and think I shouldn't complain for my own selfish reasons. I can't even imagine sticking with it if we were having problems, though. I give people a lot of credit!

weight loss I gained a whopping 50 lbs. I lost 28 lbs the first two weeks without even thinking about it, but have been at a standstill ever since. I think I may have even gained a pound or two back. I feel awful about the way I look and have nothing to wear. I thought about joining Weight Watchers, but DH said it would be a waste of money. I am going to get on our treadmill asap!

PHEW! One bad thing about combining threads - I was never good at shoutouts the first time around and now there are even more people to reply to! hehehe...

We are doing this too. I read awful things about Babywise but I don't see what's so horrible. We're on a pretty decent 3, 6, 9, 12 schedule...although sometimes he's made it from 12 to 4 or 1 to 5. We haven't had a straight 9pm to 6am though. Man, even though it will scare me for him to be quiet all that time, I will throw a party when he sleeps that well!

Advice: Strangely enough, in the very beginning, (the first two weeks) no one threw forceful advice at us. But..the last visit my parents made. AUGH! I thought my MIL would be the one suggesting things. The thing is - MIL nicely suggests things and you don't realize she's suggesting it, you know? But my own mom of course, is straight to the point with statements of "You need to..." and "You should be..." doing this or that. "You need to put that mobile back up" and "You guys sure do pound on him...(burping)" Or "That's what I used to do with you and your brother..."

Weight: I gained 45 lbs and have lost 27. I am stuck now at the weight I was at my 4 week pp appt. I thought it would keep falling off! LOL I plan on starting to exercise after this week ( 6 weeks on Monday! ) and get back on the WW bandwagon. I managed to lose 15 lbs pre-PG by using a copied points list from a friend, and www.dwlz.com, along with lots of WW friends on LJ and CC exchanging recipes.

birth control: Anyone else taking Micronor? (The progesterone only pill?) I want to start taking it tomorrow (Sunday) to see how it treats me. Doc said that I will probably not have much of a period and that scares me - I want reassurance I'm not PG again! LOL

THE MAGICAL 6-WEEK TURNING POINT: Andrew will be 6 weeks on Monday. I'm hoping for some magic to happen and he starts sleeping better. He has already outgrown some clothes by getting longer within a matter of days...and last night and today he woke up more often to eat...so I'm guessing it is the growth spurt. We've gone to Size 1 Swaddlers already.

FORMULA: I now only BF maybe once or twice a day, and its really only an appetizer (long story - we had to supplement for jaundice and the BF'ing went downhill from there)...but he takes 4 oz of formula every 3 hours. Doc said that's the max for right now...we'll see how it goes.

Travel.. I'm taking DS in the car, by myself on a 3.5 hr trip in a week and a half. Any tips?

I'm excited to get to know other moms :) Adorable babies everyone!

feeding intervals -- I am bfing and feed Benjamin about every 2 hours. At night it's more like 3-3.5 hours.

weight loss -- I gained about 32 lbs in pregnancy and have lost all but about 4 lbs. But my skin is very loose & I have stretch marks galore along with wider hips. I'm glad that the weight came off so quickly, but I'm still in a pants size larger than I was pre-pregnancy. I bought some skin firming lotion -- has anyone used this and does it work?

advice -- the advice that is driving me crazy is that I'm "spoiling" my 6 week old! He is sleeping in our bed and I feed him about every 2 hours. But he only sleeps in our bed because he absolutely refuses (and has since about week 2) to sleep anywhere except near us. He'll stay down in a crib for about 20-30 minutes max (more like 15 minutes and this is if he's in a dead sleep when we put him down). It's very frustrating. I'm hoping to start transitioning him out of our bed around 8 weeks and hopefully he's in his crib by 12. He's gaining weight like a champ too -- 13 lbs already!

sleep -- we're finally getting some sleep over here. As I mentioned, he's sleeping in our bed and will go right back to sleep after I feed him, at least he has for the last 3 nights. He eats about every 3 hours at night. This is a vast improvement over what he used to be doing, which was waking up to eat and then wanting to be awake and screaming bloody murder for an hour until he fell back to sleep, passed out. And this was when we were holding him in our bed! It was very frustrating.

first-time mom -- I lurked a bit in the November thread and I'm thrilled that your little girl is home & healing!

Right after I wrote my venting post dh went and modified the orthodontix nipple she has been using for six weeks. Now the formula comes out a lot faster than before (I dont think it was coming out at all before)!! She drank another 1.25oz so she drank 4.25 so I felt much better. It seems that she is a picky baby and likes the orthodontix nipples over the standard nipples. I have spent $$ on bottles tryin to find the right one ugh....

Natasha- Thanks for the info on your little one that helps. I know she isnt going to eat the same every bottle I am just having a hard time knowing how much is enough especially now that her heart is healed. I am also mixing her bottles stronger than normal so I need to remember that as well.

Kinaida-Thank you, I am so glad she is home too it has been a long 8 wks.. Now if I can learn how to chill out and not worry so much:)

Weightloss-I gained 38lbs during pregnancy and have lost all but 10lbs and I cant for the life of me get it off. Nothing fits and I feel enormous!!

Sleeping-Kaylin has always been a really good sleeper but unfortunatley this was due to her heart making her so tired. She is much more awake now (Post surgery). I have been letting her sleep in her swing and I will continue to do this until she is fully healed (six wks). Only restriction being picking her up under her arms. If she is good and asleep after a feeding she sleeps in her bassinet. I will have a bad habit to break once she is better but I will also be transitioning her to her crib once I know she is fully healed. I think it is going to be even harder transitioning her to her crib b/c of this whole heart condition. But she is fixed and I should let go now:)

Feeding-Since she was born I would wake her every 3 hrs to feed. She has never cried for food... She is just starting to but really I always get to her first. I dont think she knows how to cause I have always had the bottle there waiting for her. At night now I will let her go four hours but eventually I will let her go as long as she wants. She is still 50% percentile in weight even after surgery but the dr. wants me to still mix her formula stronger no clue why??

Hope I covered everything I am really bad at shout outs as well but I should be better now that I am not as stressed as before:rolleyes:

Hi ladies! I don't have much time so I promise to catch up later, but I have a quick question for those of you who have gotten your periods again. Mine arrived today  and my supply seems really low. Is this normal? I think I remember reading it would drop during your period, but does it pick up again? I'll probably ask in the bf'ing thread tomorrow, but thought I would ask 'my group' first.

Thanks!

Sebski
01-14-2006, 08:54 PM
fwgirl a drop in your supply is normal when AF visits. You should be back up to normal in a couple of days... you can try eating oatmeal to up yourself a bit. That's what I do when I'm feeling 'empty' and it's helped me.

first-time mom so glad your little chicklet is eating well! Joey was GLUED to his swing during weeks 7 & 8. Its the only place he would sleep - at all. We let him swing away and all of a sudden, one day last week he didn't want to swing anymore. He was done with it. Go figure. He's now very interested in his bouncer but back to sleeping in his bassinet. So, don't worry too much about Kaylin getting hooked on the swing. She'll move onto something else soon enough!

Feedings we BF every 2 hours. I wish it were longer, but what can I say, my boy's a boob man. ;) Sometimes I can stretch him to 2.5 hours, but those feedings are few and far between.

THE MAGICAL 6-WEEK TURNING POINT: Longer sleep patterns didn't develop for us at this point... The only thing that happened for us was DS finally STOPPED his early evening screaming fits. Every night from about 5 to 6/7w DS would scream like a little banchy from about 5pm - 10pm, when, he would finally pass out. *shuddering at the memory* Anyhoo - our ped told us that longer sleep stretches really don't develop by a certain age, but rather weight. She said DS will start sleeping longer for us once he reaches about 14 pounds.

Formula when he gets it, Joey will take anywhere from 5 to 6oz.

Now I have a question of my own...

What position does your child sleep in? DS wakes himself up when he's on his back. Even though we swaddle, he wiggles like crazy. He only seems to stay down when put on his side. We use a sleep positioner (the inclined to sleep one)... but I'm wondering if its bad that he will only sleep on his side. How does your kiddo sleep?

Natasha
01-14-2006, 10:56 PM
Sebski--Kelly sleeps better on her side, too.

Period--Haven't gotten mine, yet. On that subject, however...

I STILL am having PP bleeding! Kelly was 7 weeks on Friday. Can this be normal? Should I ask my doctor?

It's fun to have new moms and babies to get to know! But whoever said it will be hard to keep up with SOs, that is so true...I think probably I won't try to SO to everyone all the time, just respond to whatever comments strike me on any given day. I hope that won't offend anyone!

fwgirl, I still haven't had my period back, so I can't really help. My cousin BF for 8 months and didn't get her period back until her son was 9 months old, and I've heard of moms going 14 months or even 2 years without a period! Bizarre, huh? So I have no idea what to expect for that for myself. My mom said her period arrived right on time 28 days after I was born. Anyway, I know that wasn't your question--I think I have heard others say that the supply dipped a bit at the beginning of their period, but returned pretty much right away. I hope you'll find that your supply dip is gone by the time you come back to read this.

Natasha, I wonder if PP bleeding lasts longer for C section moms? Mine was super heavy for the first week--I was talking to my mom about how really shocked I was by all the blood in that first PP shower, and she said, I know, it's like the shower scene in Psycho, isn't it? Of course, she could have told me that *ahead* of time so that I'd have been less freaked out, but no! Anyway, my totally uninformed idea is that maybe I bled so heavily because I had a gash the size of the Grand Canyon down there from pushing out a 9 lb baby, but maybe with a C section, the flow is more of a flow and less of a gush, and therefore lasts longer? But probably you should ask your doctor because obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about...

Sebs, when you say "inclined to sleep", that means he's inclined on his side, right? Not that he's sort of sitting up a little? My sleep positioner kept her on her back...for a few weeks until she started to wriggle out of it. But now she's spitting up so much that I really have to say it's more like vomit than spit up. I need to put in another call to the doctor about it tomorrow. She spits up so much she wakes herself when she's sleeping, and I'm really worried about her choking since she sleeps on her back. I wonder if there were some way to prop her up a little if she'd spit up in her sleep less?

kinaida, and whoever said they were getting advice about "spoiling" their 2 week old baby--doesn't this make you want to scream?? Now that my mom has gone, DH's parents are coming over every freaking day now to "help" me. And their very fine advice is, don't rock her, don't dance her, you're going to spoil her. If I manage to get her to sleep, they want me to immediately put her in her crib so I don't "spoil" her, nevermind that I know damn well that if I put her down before she's settled into a deep sleep, she's guaranteed to wake up, and pissed. Well, fine, but I'm the one who lives with her, and I know that if I don't do these things she gets upset and screams her head off. So, when I stop rocking or jiggling because I just get tired of trying to ignore their comments, thinking OK she'll start screaming now and they'll see their advice sucks, then sure enough she starts screaming, and then it's: What's wrong with her?! What does the doctor say?! Why don't you go to a different doctor?! 20 freaking questions about the doctor, and I want to scream to them that **I** am this child's mother, not the damn doctor!!!UGH! I am about 2 inches from biting both their freaking heads off. Thanks so much for coming over every damn day to "help", but when you "help" me I only have to juggle making you coffee and trying to play hostess to you in addition to taking care of my baby, and your "help" so far has only consisted of playing with the baby when she's in a good mood and getting in my freaking way when she isn't and I'm trying to take care of her. They are so in my face when I'm trying to change her diaper, I have to step back and reach around them to get to the wipes, etc...and when she's really screaming, I feel like I have three screaming babies to take care of instead of one, because they're so upset I have to calm them down too. Add to that the language frustration, and that I don't particularly feel like struggling with Greek vocabularly to understand/make myself understood in the moments when Zoe is screaming her head off to talk to you about the freaking doctor!!!! UGH! [/rant]

Magical 6 weeks--there was no magic at 6 weeks, but around that time things did gradually start to get easier. The screaming sessions eased off from hours at a time to now only 10-15 minutes before I can calm her, etc. And she did begin sleeping longer and longer.

Breastfeeding--it is a huge struggle to get Zoe to take a bottle, and I'm starting to feel a little desperate about this. I am tied to this baby because she will only eat off my boob--I'm surrounded by grandparents, etc, and I would *love* to just let them babysit and take 2-3 hours as a little vacation for myself, to see a movie, have dinner with friends, just walk around the block 20 times! But no. So, the bottle battle continues. But I soooo understand feeling overwhelmed with the demands of having to be the only source of food. It's just hard to be so tied to the baby. At this point, until our bottle battles get a little easier, anyway, I have no other choice, though....

OK, baby crying....

Thank you Sebski and alb! I'm happy to report that it was just a temporary dip. By last night I was (almost) back to normal. I was hoping to be one of the lucky ladies who doesn't have to worry about AF for a few months, but no such luck. Oh well.

Natasha I've heard that pp bleeding can last from a few weeks to a few months. I think it really depends on the person and the delivery. If you are concerned though you should ask your doctor. That's what they are there for and it would probably make you feel better. I hope it stops soon!

first-time mom I also lurked in the Nov. thread and wanted to say I'm glad your little girl is home and getting better everyday. She sounds like such a little trooper!

jengen we take pictures with little signs like that too! My mom did it with me and now we're doing it too. It's a great way to track how quickly our little girl is growing and changing.

sleeping position. Lo sleeps on her back. We swaddle her and that's what works for us.

sleep. The nights have been really good for the past 2 or so weeks. Lo is going to sleep for the night around 10:30 or 11 pm after 4oz of EBM from DH. Then she'll sleep until 4 or 4:30 am. She's up for about a half hour and then goes back down until 6:30 or 7 am. It's been so nice! I'm telling myself not to get too used to it, but the longer this streak lasts the more I think it might be our new pattern.

6 weeks. This wasn't magic for us either, but the beginning of things getting a little easier. The evening fussiness has gotten shorter and shorter. She's been sleeping better. She's becoming much more interactive and during her awake periods she's getting really fun.

feedings. I bf about every 3-4 hours. At night before bed DH gives her a bottle of EBM. She takes the bottle really well. I think it's because she was jaundice after birth and we did a lot of formula supplementing to get her weight up and get rid of the jaundice. She got used to the bottle very quickly and still takes it easily.

advice. I get a ton and try to filter through it. I keep what I think is useful and mentally toss the rest. I just try and remind myself that the people in our lives that are offering it are only trying to help because they love our baby. Advice from strangers is a whole 'nother story, but luckily we haven't received much of that yet.

weight loss. I still have about 30 lbs to lose. (But it doesn't look like that much to me. Weird.) I'm trying not to focus on it. I got the okay to exercise last week so I've been using the treadmill. My goal is to fit into my jeans by the time I return to work in March. I figure that is a doable goal. Right now I'm living in yoga pants and drawstring pants. It's comfy, but I'm missing my jeans.

I know in the Nov. thread you ladies were talking about Bumbo seats and I'm really excited because the one my mom ordered for us arrived on Thursday. It's so cool! Lo doesn't quite have the head control to use it yet but she's getting close. I think she'll really like it since she loves to sit up and look around. :)

Okay, I've rambled enough. I hope everyone has a great day!

feedings We do about every 2 hours, somedays 2.5 hours...but just like Sebski, my boy is a boob man as well.

sleep position Owen will roll onto his side almost every night that he sleeps...no matter how we lay him down. So I just go with how he positions himself.

sleep Well my little guy, as long as I eat no chocolate, sleeps for almost 6 hours last night (12-5:45),eats, and then another 3 hour nap and now up. This is kind of his norm.

baby's schedule Well my little guy has a schedule where he does things within a time frame every day, but he is seriously a night owl. Anyone else have this. Since the 1st week we brought him home, he has gone down at midnight (or so). Well I guess he changed it from 2 am to midnight. But I wonder if I should try to make him go down earlier. We do a bed time routine between 8-10, but still won't go down earlier. I'm not sure where to start on trying to fix it, or if I should even bother and count my blessings that he is normally a good sleeper.

Bumbo seat What is this? I used to lurk in the Nov. Mommies thread but haven't since having Owen. So I must have missed this.

bumbo seat here is a pic of one. we got ours last week and i think once hayley has better head control it will be great!
http://www.bumboseat.com/media/bumbo-seat-blue.jpg

amount of formula i am FFing and DD will take anywhere from 3-4 oz sometimes...to up to 6 oz at other times. it's kind of hit or miss...i usually make a 4 oz bottle and then make more if she is still hungry. she's quite the little eater:) During the day we feed about every 3 hours...at night whenever she wakes up. sometimes 3-4 hours...and sometimes much longer.

sleep position hayley will sleep on her back most of the time, but she always twists her head/neck into weird positions. doesn't anyone else's DC do this? she's always squirming.

sleep so i told you it wouldn't last for 2 nights! no 9 hour stretch for me last night! it wasn't too bad though. she slept from 10-2ish, then woke up. and after feeding her she slept til aroun 6 or so. it wasn't awful, but we were spoiled for that one night!

ppp bleeding i bled for almost 6 weeks. and i just got AF back at around 7 1/2 weeks PP. it was longer and heavier than it ws before i was pg. i'm hoping that it won't be like that forever now. I am going back on BCP shortly so hopefull that will help w/cramps and length of AF.

Sam is probably one of the oldsters of the group (11w 5d), but it definitely seems like as the weeks pass the developmental differences get smaller. Here's a new photo for the thread, taken just last week. He looks HUGE here, he is 14 lbs now but I also think the car seat angle makes him look bigger too.

Sebski--Kelly sleeps better on her side, too.

Period--Haven't gotten mine, yet. On that subject, however...

I STILL am having PP bleeding! Kelly was 7 weeks on Friday. Can this be normal? Should I ask my doctor?

I have to read all the other posts, but jumping in to say I am still haveing PP bleeding too, and I will be 8 weeks PP on Tuesday  My doc said since we are BFding it can last up to 8 weeks, any longer and I am calling him again. He is very laid back & blase about everything and it makes me nuts. I did post on the parenting board about average time, and some women did go up to 8 weeks, so that made me feel better. Let me know if you cannot find it and I will bump it for you.

Bumbo seat we have one on the way, I CAN'T WAIT for it to get here!

Sleep/schedules the rule seems to be that once you start getting used to something your baby goes and mixes it up again. We had a pretty regular down at about 9 up at 3:30 to eat, then down again until 6 or 7. Then earlier this week Sam decided it would be better to wake up every hour from midnight until 6!!! That lasted for a couple nights, I was so scared he was reverting back to the super early newborn days on me. But last night he was only up once again. I try not to get too attached to whatever great sleeping thing he happens to be doing, since I know it's gonna change again soon :)

I forget who asked about babies going down late (around midnight) Sam definitely did this in the early weeks, and has slowly moved his bedtime back, so it will get better.

6 weeks no big magic for us either, things really started to get easier at 8 weeks for us. Generally things are going well now but there are still days where it's tough, like the up every hour thing this week!

Alb sorry to hear you are still struggling with the bottle battle - you have probably scoured the internet for tips already but have you tried starting out nursing and switching to a bottle midstream? I wonder if Zoe would tolerate that. I really feel for you I feel so liberated when I can just walk out the door and know that DH/my mom/etc can defrost some breastmilk and Sam will be fed. Hope it turns around for you soon!

Jaredsgirl, we have a nightowl over here. Zoe will NOT go to sleep before 2am. Sometimes 2, sometimes 2:30, sometimes as late as 4. Like you, I guess I'm just going to go with it and be happy that we seem to be getting 6-7 hours straight from her once she does go down, and on good days, she wakes after 6-7 hours, eats, and goes straight back to sleep for 1-3 hours. But then, not every day is a good day....

a few questions:

For anyone whose baby was diagnosed with reflux or prescribed Zantac or something like that, did the Zantac (or whatever) solve the spitup/vomit problem? It's just an antacid, right? How would it stop the spitup/vomit?

First time mom, how did they know about Kaylin's heart problem? I guess sometimes these things go undiagnosed, as I guess it must have for Kristen78's SIL. What did they do to find out about Kaylin's heart? What made them check? Thank God they DID find out about it!!

We FF too and he usually takes 4 oz every 3 hours, but in the past two days he has been fussy afterwards. We're trying to limit the paci use ... but today he ate 4 oz at 10:45 and was screaming hungry by 12:30! 6 week growth spurt maybe? It seems like even though I hear he should be sleeping longer, etc etc...and fussy periods get shorter (he never has a lot of these, luckily)...does it get worse before it gets better? The ped told us that 4 oz every 3 hours is the most he should have right now (well, about two weeks ago) and I'm kind of afraid to give him 5 oz! But if it gets him to go to sleep and he's not spitting up, I guess there's no harm?

hayley will sleep on her back most of the time, but she always twists her head/neck into weird positions. doesn't anyone else's DC do this? she's always squirming.

Andrew does this. I think, "How can you breathe?" Sometimes when I go in to check on him in his crib, his neck is all crooked up like he was trying to look at something up behind him in the crib to his right. So strange.

jaredsgirl: The past week or so, Andrew wants to party between midnight and 2. He doesn't fuss...but after he eats around midnight, we can't get him to stay asleep! Even if we wait until he's dead asleep in our arms....he wakes up cooing and grunting when we put him down. Every other feeding during the night, he'll go right back to sleep....I don't know!

PERIOD/BCP QUESTION I CAN'T SEEM TO GET A COMMENT ON:
I've got Micronor (progesterone only mini pill) for BCP and haven't started taking it yet. I'll be 6 weeks PP tomorrow (PP bleeding stopped by 4 weeks and I haven't had AF yet - I was ridiculously regular pre-PG)...should I wait until I have a period to make sure all is well before I start taking this pill? The doc said I could start taking it whenever I wanted - but that when I quit BF'ing he'd give me a "regular" pill like I was on before. I won't be BF'ing after I go back to work (Feb 6)...but we are cleared for DTD after next week!

I don't know whether to start taking this pill, only to switch in less than a month...or take this pill, not have a period (doc said Micronor would make me have less of a period if at all), and freak out that I'm PG again!!!!!

My ped said at this point when they are still so young...to feed on demand. So we pretty much feed her what she wants. If she's full she won't eat anymore or if she has too much it will come up. We haven't had any major spit up issues luckily and she is a pretty good tempered baby so she can handle the extra ounces when she needs them. If after 4 oz she is still sucking and licking like a crazy woman we give her more!:)

Andrew does this. I think, "How can you breathe?" Sometimes when I go in to check on him in his crib, his neck is all crooked up like he was trying to look at something up behind him in the crib to his right. So strange.

This is exactly like Hayley. i think..her neck is going to kill her when she gets up...but she is fine. she is like a contortionist w/her head and neck.

In regards to your BCP ?....i am going to start on Triphasil once i p/u my prescription. My dr said i ddin't need to wait until AF arrived to start the pill...however I got AF last week after i went to the dr. I'm not really sure what you should do, sorry!...that would totally freak me out to not get AF...and just wonder if I were pg again so soon!

PP bleeding - I'm a little over 5 weeks PP and still have spotting daily. I am sooooo ready to be done with pantyliners. FYI - I has a c/s

For those of you with gassy babies...Last night we gave it a whirl and tried gripe water. I checked with the pedi first and she gave us the OK. It is harmless. Maya LOVED the taste and calmed down immediately after taking it. Of course this could be a one time miracle but I had to pass that along to you all. I'll report back as we use it more. We got the Baby Bliss brand.

Avoiding certain foods for breastfed babies??? - Does this really make a difference in terms of crankiness? I'd like to hear from moms who have noticed and not noticed changes. Thanks!

I've got to go back and read some posts, but wanted to answer some that I did read...

Zantac: My niece was prescribed Zantac when she was about three months old, and according to my brother and SIL, it's worked WONDERS for her. She used to get so unhappy because of reflux, gas, etc. Then they switched her formula and put her on Zantac, and she's 100% better from what I hear.

PP Bleeding: I think mine stopped around 3-4 weeks pp.

Bumbo Seat: Where do I get one?

Formula: Nathan takes 3-4 ounces every time (usually closer to 4).

Sleep Position: Nathan is still sleeping on my chest pretty much 100% of the time. :o He screams when we put him on his back. We've tried to let him CIO, but he doesn't quit. So, I've started a bad habit of giving in and letting him sleep on my chest.

period-I got mine about 6 weeks after having Kaylin. At least I think it was my period it lasted for over a week and was extremely heavy. Maybe it was still pp bleeding but I am glad it stopped:)

Alb-When Kaylin was two days old the doc heard what he thought was a murmur so he sent for an echo, only to find out she had two holes in her heart. In my opinion I think everyone one should have an echo b/c like you said you never know. Kaylin still has two tiny tiny holes in her heart and you cant hear a murmur anymore!! So that goes to show that any one could have a hole and not know it. Although Kaylin has two tiny holes they will pose no problems to her. 90% of these holes close on their own so I am willing to bet a lot of babies are born with holes but they close on their own with time. One of Kaylin's holes is called a small residual leak and it is near the patch. I guess this is common and within a couple months her heart tissue will grow over the patch covering the leak. The other small hole is a separate vsd that is extremely tiny, so tiny you cant hear a murmur when you listen to her heart. But with time this too shall close and if it doesnt she can live with it and only have to take a pill to go to the dentist. But three cardiologist's say it will close they just dont know how long it will take. A few months to a couple of years. My husband and I are going to request echo's b/c you never know. As for people going undiagnosed it is soo true my 21 year old cousin just found out she has a PFO Patent Foramen Ovale which is one of the holes Kaylin just had fixed. She never knew it until she complained about her heart and they did an echo. Its definalty scary, I am so glad they found Kaylins. As for most VSD's they usually do close on their own if they are small or moderate sized but Kaylin's was classified as large and they usually require surgery. They say the larger the hole the less noise it makes and the smaller the louder which is why I think its strange that they cant even hear Kaylin's We have an appt on Tuesday with the cardiologist and surgeon and I am hoping I will hear that the two remainin holes are gone but I am not going to cross my fingers. I can rest assure that even if they are not gone they will not cause her any problems in her future. As the cardiologist says I need to put this whole episode behind me and get on with our lives but I cant help but worry...

Question-When your babies are awake are they very demanding. It seems like when Kaylin is awake she wants to be held all the time. She used to sleep all the time but now she is more alert and awake which I am so glad for. Also how much time during a 24 period is your babies awake? I still think she sleeps a lot and I dont know how much is normal??

ktdelsur our DS gets a bottle of formula in the afternoon and evening. We told our ped that he seems like he needs more than 5oz in a feeding and she said to up it to 6 or 7 if he'll take it. She said that the worse that can happen is he'll throw up if it's too much or we'll waste some formula if he doesn't take it. If you think your baby wants another ounce, then give it a shot and see if he'll take it... our DS now goes anywhere from 5 - 7oz sometimes. Mostly he takes 5 though.

Bumbo Seat we got ours at bumboseat.com ... we only used it once though for a few min since DS doesn't have complete head control yet.

Alb sorry to hear about Zoe's stomach troubles... I don't know anything about any baby on Zantac. Hope it works for you guys though! "Inclined to sleep" is actually the name of Joey's sleep positioner... it has a teeny incline to it.

Question for the mom's whos kids are sleeping longer stretches at night... what are you daytime/early evening routines like? Joey naps about every 1.5 hours anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours during the day. At night he is still only sleeping in 3 hour stretches waking 2x's to eat. I thought by now he'd be sleeping longer... not sure if we should be doing something differently.

kamileer we also tried the gripe water, but DS hated it! I don't think it helped his gas much - sounds like it works for some babies but not others. It did work on his hiccups though, but he always gagged when I gave it to him I couldn't keep doing it and just nurse him instead when the hiccups are really bad. Glad that your baby likes it! Also your ? on avoiding certain foods - my baby was pretty gassy and unhappy from about 4 to 8 weeks or so. Kellymom.com (great resource for bfeeding if you haven't checked it out) says that food sensitivities in bfed babies are actually pretty uncommon, though dairy is the most common. Anyway I thought about totally doing the dairy elimination thing wondering if it would help but my baby stopped being so gassy about 8 weeks on his own before I did anything. I can't help but wonder if it was just a gassy phase, unrelated to anything I was eating. But some people do seem to have success with a restricted diet. If there were lots of allergies in my family I would have been more agressive about avoiding certain foods.

Seb we have no specific routine really just doing the same thing you are putting him down as soon as he starts yawning/fussing during the day and for bed anytime after 7 or 8. It was about 8-9 weeks when he started going more than 3-4 hours at a time, and still isn't doing it consistently. Honestly I think you're doing everything right he's just not ready to sleep longer stretches yet. I had no idea how tough this baby sleep business was before Sam was born, boy was I in for a shock!!

kamileer Gripe water REALLY works for DS. It usually works within 20mins of a gas attack. We still massage his belly and push his legs to work out the gas for him though. DS doesn't seem to be affected by anything I eat not even coffee. Maybe some babies are more sensitve then others.

Seb My DS is 8 weeks and is just starting to sleep longer hours 4-5 during the night. Like you we just put him to sleep when he is tired and feed him when he needs it. We are lucky because he does go down right after each feeding at night. I hope I didn't just curse us.

PP Bleeding nothing so far.

Sleep Position Jack loves sleeping on his back and hates being on his tummy. He hates tummy time. He also likes to have his own space. When I bring him into bed with us when I want to sleep a bit more he likes his own spot and doesn't want to be cuddled in our arms.

Okay, I've read through to catch up, and now my husband wants me to go to bed!

Quickly...

There was a question from Jaycee in the last thread about cloth diapering.
e&d, those are so cute! I do have a few questions. What do with the dirty diapers after Leo goes poop? I'm assuming you immediatly go rinse the diaper out? But then what happens? How often do you run a laundry load, and is the water hot enough to clean them and get the odor out? I've heard some talk about boiling them. It seems like a lot of extra work. is it?

1. Poopy diapers: I've been using a disposable liner next to his skin that catches the poo. So then I just toss that and the diaper isn't really all the dirty and doesn't need to be rinsed. I think I'm going to start using fleece liners though because from what I've been reading they seem to be better.

Once the diapers are dirty I just toss them in a plastic pail (I don't soak them or anything) and then just take them down to wash when I have enough.

2. They are remarkably clean and we've been doing it for about 3 weeks now. I'm starting to see some light staining in a couple of the dipes but I read that putting them in the sun bleaches it out quickly...haven't tried it yet.

I don't have a ton of dipes so I normally do one wash a day, but when we get more into it, I'll buy enough that I'll probably do a wash every other day. It's actually not a big deal at all though; I just throw them in the wash before we go to bed, usually.

The cloth dipes are SO cute and I like that we aren't generating tons of garbage. Not to mention it's nice not to have to keep buying bags of diapers -- it's a one time cost!

Leo has been doing really well. He's growing every day...it's amazing.

This thread has the cutest babies! Absolutely adorable. Here are a couple more shots of Leo just because he is such a character:

e&d -- leo is adorable!!!

sleep position -- Benjamin is a side/tummy sleeper. He loves to be curled up next to me in bed. He'd totally sleep on his tummy if we let him. Hates his back. DH & I joke that the sure fire way to get him to wake up is to put him on his back. He needs to be held in order for him to fall asleep. If he's not swaddled, he'll swing one of his arms to make sure that someone is there (while his eyes are still closed) and once he feels you there, he'll settle back down and fall asleep.

PP bleeding -- mine lasted about 6 weeks. No AF yet, thank goodness!

6 week mark -- as others have said, things started getting better & more regular for us around 6 weeks. He's no longer wanting to be up & partying in the middle of the night. He's sleeping longer too -- but only 3 hour stretches. I'm jealous of all of you who get 6 hour stretches!!! He's still fussy in the evenings though. I'm hoping that dissipates soon.

demanding while awake/naps -- we try to have Ben fall asleep within 1-2 hours of wakefulness, like Weissbluth recommends. Seems to work for us during the day -- the evening can be a little bit harder b/c he's more fussy then. Benjamin is very demanding when he's awake. He'll swing by himself for awhile, he'll play for a little while in his gym by himself, but he starts getting fussy around 10 minutes if I'm not around and he's not sleepy. I do hold him a lot *cue the "you're spoiling him" comments* -- which is compounded by the fact that he won't stay down in his crib or PnP. Hopefully soon....

gripe water/gassy/BFing -- Benjamin hated the gripe water! Loves the simethicone drops, although I don't think they actually do anything. I thought that he had a sensitivity to dairy & beans in the beginning, but I'm learning now that he's just fussy and that it isn't related to my diet. I haven't tried cutting things out, but from what I've read, he's just in that fussy 4-8 week period and it's fairly regular no matter what I eat. He doesn't have a rash or weird spit up. I guess it doesn't hurt to eliminate foods, but I've also read that it's fairly rare and babies are just fussy around this time. If the fussiness continues past 8 weeks, I might consider eliminating dairy to see if that makes a difference.

Wow combining the thread really makes it move fast... even on a weekend!!! :)
A few shoutouts:

First I have had such a blast looking at all the baby pictures.. apparently early winter babies are THE cutest babies... :)

e&d i remember you from TTC with charting... its like a mini reunion in here.. :) Leo is adorable!

Sebski Molly is still sleeping at least 8+ hours a night.. sometimes upto 10 hours a night  the trade off is that she really doesnt nap uring the day.. i havent done anything to encourage her sleep habits... (id actually really like her to get a good nap during the day to give me a break.. she catnaps all day.. catching under 30 minutes here and there during the course of the day... the one thing i do differently during the day is that i dont always move her to her crib during the daytime naps.. and i dont usually swaddle her during the daytime naps.. at night she always sleeps in her crib (we moved her there at about 4 weeks old) and she is always swaddled...

Alb I love that picture of Zoe!!!

Sleep position since Molly still is swaddled at night.. she sleeps on her back.. and she has seemed happy with that...

Formula Molly is taking 4-6 ounces per feeding... probably around 22 ounces a day or something like that.. though its hard to say since we always have partially filled bottles left over... i think she had a growth spurt going on alst week though because she was eating all day everyday... i feed her when she is hungry.. my ped didnt say anything about overfeeding her.. she pushing the nipple out when she is done or doesnt want it..

We accidently bought a box of Pampers Baby Dry.. and i cant believe how different they are from swaddlers! they totally dont fit Molly.. SO annoying!

Im so happy the weekend is almost over.. I feel like i have such better control over the weekdays when Molly and I are on our own.. between all the errands and socializing over the weekend i find that Molly gets cranky and i do too.. i never thought i would think taking care of her on my own would be a rest.. but with my family it is! So hooray for Monday! bring it on!;)

Thanks, everyone for the PP bleeding comments. I think I started my period today...joy!

Kelly has finally started smiling! So cute!

Alanna--I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO jealos of Molly's night time sleep! Kelly is no where near that!

Sleep position--Kelly ALWAYS arches her neck. And if your holding her, she always lays her head waaay to one side. It looks painful, but it's the only way she is comfortable.

ktdelsur Cole gets one bottle of EBM a day (I'm trying to get him used to it) and when given to him during the day, he takes about 3.5 ounces, but at night during his normal "cluster-feeding" time, he ate 4 ounces of EBM and then did 20 mins of BF'ing, so obviously, I need to give him more at certain times than others. I read in "What to Expect the First Year" that babies can take up to 9 ounces at some feeds.

spitting up Cole spits up/throws up ALL THE TIME. He seems to be gaining a lot of weight and very healthy, so I think maybe it's something I'm eating? He gets a little fussy, pukes and then all is well, so it hasn't gotten to the point where I need to give him anything for it, just creates a lot of extra wash around here. :) I'm going to ask the dr about it today.

demanding while awake/naps Cole is pretty good and will go in his swing, bouncy seat, etc so I don't end up holding him all day. However, he's a very active and alert baby, so his naps during the day are generally only 45 mins long max. I try to do the EAT/PLAY/SLEEP schedule and make sure he is only awake for 2 hours at a time and 3 hours between feeds. I want to buy the Weissbluth book, I've heard wonderful things about it.

Seb Cole only goes 3 hours or less between feeds at night. I feel your pain. :) He really doesn't go down for the night until 11 or 12 and he won't go in the crib or bassinet. I'm hoping he'll grow out of this!

sleep position My guy prefers to be on his tummy, but we stick him on his back, anyway.

My first terrible Mommy moment As I mentioned above, I think I have the most active, wiggliest little baby on the planet. He NEVER stops moving. Well, I was clipping his nails yesterday and he jerked his thumb so quick that I ended up cutting a piece of his skin! He only cried for a minute, but I felt horrible. It wouldn't stop bleeding (not heavily), so we had to put a little bandaid on it. From now on, I am waiting til he is comotose before I attempt to cut them! :(

Well, today is Cole's one-month dr's appt and he has to get some shots. I can't wait to see how much he weighs and how long he is...he definitely grew during that 3 week growth spurt!!

spitting up Owen is the worst with this. He spits up all the time. I was told it was just an immature digestive track. But I will be asking the dr. when I am in next time.

demanding while awake/naps I could totally leave Owen alone in his swing or on the floor and he is as happy as can be. He just talks and plays alone on the floor, and plays and looks at the mobile in the swing (only falls asleep if dead tired). He normally will eat/play/sleep. But right now he ate and fell asleep, which is strange for him. But normally he is awake for 1-2 hours and takes a one hour nap.

ktdelsur I am going to start taking the mini pill today. (Once I pick up my prescription!) My dr said that you can start it anytime and that unlike the regular pill it is the same all month long. She said it just depends on when I want to start it. So it's really up to you when you want to start taking it. Or if you would prefer to wait until you're done bf'ing you could just use another method of bc until you start the regular pill.

Sebski my little girl will sleep for 5 or 6 hours during the night, wake up to eat and then sleep another 2 or 3 hours. For example she'll go down for the night at 11 pm, up at 4:30 am for a feeding, back down at 5 am and then up again at 7 am. During the day I try to follow the 2 hour rule and I never wake her when she's napping. Some days are better than others. We don't really have a schedule since I feel like she's too young for that so I try to follow her cues. I'm probably no help, but hopefully that kind of answers your question. I have the Weissbluth book and am following it very loosely. Honestly, I just haven't had the time to read it but I think it will be helpful later on.

e&d Leo is such a cutie!

Alanna I feel like the weekends mess us up too! By Sunday afternoon I am almost counting the hours until Monday since that's when we can get back to our routine.

jengen I completely understand your 'terrible mommy moment!!' I did the same thing last week. Lo still has a little scab on her left thumb. I felt sick after nicking her with the nail clippers. I will not be using those for a long time! I think I'll stick with filing her nails from now on since I thought I was being so careful, but still cut her. And when I tried to put a tiny band aid on her it kept falling off and she just keep bleeding. It wasn't a lot, but everything she touched had little red dots on it. I called my mom so upset. She said every mom has been there at one time or another, but that really didn't make me feel better. Ugh, my stomach feels tight just thinking about it.

Bumbo seat. My mom ordered ours from Bumbo Baby Seat (www.bumbobabyseat.com).

demanding while awake - Count Maya in! She's content alone for about 10 mins in the swing or play gym. Doesn't have much of an attention span yet so I end up carrying her around for much of the day (luckily she likes her Bjorn). It gets quite exhausting at night when she is really needy. Yawn!!!

Gripe Water - worked like a charm again last night! I LOOOOOVE this stuff. Thank you for my sanity, gripe water creators. ;)

Sleep - Maya takes a couple long naps during the day (about 2 hours each) and then she'll take a couple short cat naps. In the evening she can go 5 or 6 HOURS without sleeping which is driving us crazy. At night she'll sleep in 3.5-4 hours stretches.

Nap question - Maya will often sleep for over 2 hours during the day. If it's been 4 hours since her last feed I usually wake her. Should I not be doing this? I hate to wake a sleeping baby but I am worried that she's either not get enough food or won't want to sleep at night. Am I approaching this wrong??? I'd love to get your opinions on this.

this thread is moving fast!

demanding while awake/naps Sam has really gotten better about not being so needy when he's awake during the day, he will play in his gymini by himself for up to half an hour now. I can tell sometimes that he's getting bored with me and wants to play in there instead! He's less willing to hang out by himself at night. His napping continues to change a lot. A couple weeks ago he was taking 2-3 hour naps every day (LOVED THAT!!) but no longer, now he can barely stay awake for an hour before he needs to sleep again. And his naps are barely an hour now.

Some of the November mommies might remember that Sam was totally fighting me to go to sleep a couple weeks ago, rocking for an hour+ at night, screaming and kicking. Well after I nursed him before bed one night my DH just took him and put him down with no rocking at all and he went to sleep within 10 minutes or so. We did have to go in a bunch of times to replace the pacifier but it was nice not to have to rock for an hour or 2! I will still rock him a bit if he's really unhappy but he's generally going down for naps and bed with no rocking now. Which is a relief to me because I was worried about how he would ever nap at daycare without someone to rock him for an hour.

Also he is totally cooing and babbling up a storm now, it's really taken off this week! It really feels like he's trying to talk to us, which just melts my heart. Which is good because his night sleeping is still kind of messed up and I need some positive feedback when I'm getting up all night!!

sleep -- Benjamin slept for 5 hours last night!!!!! It was great. And then he went right back to sleep for another 3 hours. This is a major milestone for us :)

alanna -- Baby Dry are so much different than Swaddlers, I was surprised too. But we like them now, they really are pretty absorbent. They're a lot bigger than the the Swaddlers.

weight gain -- I'm exclusively breastfeeding and I'm a little worried that Benjamin is gaining too much weight! Everyone tells me that bf'ed babies can't be overweight and he's not, but he's already over 13 lbs. Not sure how long he is -- his 2 month appointment is January 30th and I suppose he'll get measured then.

kamileer -- I have totally BTDT when it comes to the middle of the night awakenings. Just know that they don't last forever! Benjamin was terrible when he was around Maya's age. It got better for us around 6 weeks.
