Charting Our Course to the BFPs

http://www.ripleysorlando.com/images2/fertilitystatues.jpg
The fertility statues are known to work for some who rub them around the time of possible conception.
It is said that the baby is the most potent part of the statue.

So rub away! :D It's worth a shot!

Who we are:
This is a group of women using charting (temperatures, CM, CP, OPK/FM results, or a combination of these) to try to conceive and, along the way, are learning a heckuvalot about their own bodies! Many of us use a software program to keep track of our charts as well as allowing us to share them with each other. The most common ones are FertitlityFriend.com and Ovusoft.com.

Your threadmistresses for this thread are Sare79 and MichelleRenee

To our members:
This thread gets very busy at times, so in order to keep things less overwhelming and a bit more organized, we start a new thread each month as well as after 3 BFPs. A link to the new thread is always posted at the end of the current thread to help everyone find their way over. The threadmistresses would really appreciate it if everyone would post their updates in Red. That way, if we get a bit behind, it is much quicker to get the thread up-to-date.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Want to join the fun??
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter if you have never charted before or if you’ve been charting to avoid. I am sure you will find lots of help and support in this group.

If you would like to join, CD1 is the time to do it! That way, we can cheer you on
throughout your cycle, rather than 2 days before you test!

Please don't be discouraged by the number of posts in this thread. You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page. Just read through these first couple of posts and post a reply with the following information and we will get you added right away. Of course, none of this info is a must but we like to know a little bit about one another.

Things I Have Learned About TTC
by WC's Sherylb

* TTC is a journey. You will discover things about yourself that you never expected. You will face fears you never thought you had. You will find joy in little things.

* TTC can bring you closer to your DH, or it can pull you apart. If your marriage is not solid, you will find out quickly.

* No one understands exactly what you are feeling at any given moment, but someone can empathize at least a little bit.

* You will experience an emotional roller coaster ride. There will be highs and lows and fast moments and slow. Sometimes you have to wait in a very, very slow moving line. You may not even get the seat you want. It is not always fun, it can be scary, but in the end it is worth it.

* "Just relax" is the last thing in the world you want to hear from someone, but it is OK if you say it about yourself.

* There will be moments when you question your own decision to start TTC. You will wonder if you should wait or if you should just give up. Those are normal. But you will get past those feelings.

* The blue and green turtle likes to pop its head out! You will hear of someone's pregnancy and turn green with envy and blue inside because it isn't you.

* It isn't fair, it isn't easy, and it isn't pretty. But you keep doing it because the reward is worth it.

* You will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Your body will
surprise you and yet disappoint you.

* Some women do get lucky and conceive right away. Others aren't so lucky and have to struggle to get there. Hope you will be in the first category, but prepare yourself to be in the second.

* Once you decide to TTC, there will be babies and pregnant women everywhere! You could swear there is a baby boom going on!

* You will have questions. No one will ever be in exactly your position, so don't be surprised when no one can give you exactly the answer you are looking for. But there are people that can contribute, so don't be afraid to ask!

• Two lines on a pregnancy test is not the end of the struggle. Pregnancy has lots of struggles in and of itself.

- Common TTC abbreviations

This is a list of some of the more common TTC abbreviations. I know as a newcomer to the TTC threads, it can be hard to keep them all straight. I hope these will help, and if anyone has any they would like added, please let me know!

•2WW: "2 week wait" - The approximate time from possible conception to menstruation due date; Pregnancy tests should be taken near the end of the 2WW.
•AF: "Aunt Flo"; Your period; Menstruation
•AFNW: "Aunt Flo Not Wanted"; the day your period is expected to start, but you are hoping it doesn't!
•AO: anovulatory (cycle without ovulation)
•BBs: "boobs"; breasts
•BBL: "be back later"
•BBT: Basal Body Thermometer; This is used to measure your basal body temperature, when you wake up in the morning, after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around; Use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers.
•BCP: Birth control pills
•BD'ing: "baby dancing"; baby-making intercourse
•BFN: "Big Fat Neutral" or “Big Fat Negative”; Negative pregnancy test.
•BF'ing: breast-feeding
•BRB: "be right back"
•CD: cycle day; a particular day in your menstrual cycle (example: CD1 is the first day of your period)
•CL: Cover Line; a visual tool used to separate the low (pre-ovulatory) temps from high (post-ovulatory) temps; a coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation.
•CM: cervical mucous; one of the most useful clues your body can give you in predicting your fertility; it can range from dry, creamy, sticky, or (the most fertile) egg white/watery type.
•CF: cervical fluid; same as cervical mucus
•CP: cervical position; an optional, but sometimes really useful, fertility sign; CP will generally be low, firm and closed before and after ovulation, and high, soft and open during your fertile time.
•DD: "dear daughter"
•DH: "dear husband"
•DS: "dear son"
•DPO: Days Past Ovulation; number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise. (Example: 1DPO is the day after your ovulation)
•Endo: endometriosis (can be a fertility problem)
•EDC and EDD: estimated date of confinement (antiquated, but still used by physicians) and estimated date of delivery
•EPT: a brand of pregnancy test, or, generic for "early pregnancy test"
•EW or EWCM: egg white cervical mucus; the most fertile quality CM; it is slippery, clear and stretchy, like egg whites; also EWCF
•FAM: Fertility Awareness Method; the method of fertility and/or birth control that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile
•FF: Fertility Friend, an online (free, for basic services) fertility charting site (website); (could also be formula feeding; check context)
•FM: fertility monitor
•FMU: first morning urine
•FP: follicular phase; the phase before ovulation, where the egg matures in the ovaries
•FRED: First Response Early Detection (pregnancy test)
•HCG: human chorionic gonadotropin; the hormone that is present during pregnancy and what the HPT's and blood test measure to determine if you are pregnant
•HTH: "hope that helps"
•HPT: home pregnancy test; a urine pregnancy test you can take at home
•IMHO: "in my humble opinion"
•IMO: "in my opinion"
•IUI: intra-uterine insemination
•IVF: in vitro fertilization
•KU: knocked up
•LH: leutenizing hormone; the LH surge is what is measured by the OPKs; this hormone signals the egg to burst from the ovary
•LP: luteal phase; the phase of your cycle that begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period; during the LP, your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy; this is the time when a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining
•NFP: Natural Family Planning; similar to FAM, but with abstinence during the fertile period
•O, Oing, Oed: ovulation, ovulating, or ovulated
•OPK: ovulation predictor kit; tests for presence of LH surge that usually precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours; these tests are quite expensive and not always accurate (if you take medication or depending on your age); these are optional when charting with FF, but if your fertility data is not clear it can bring more light and help interpret difficult cases
•OS: Ovusoft; charting software based on TCOYF
•PCOS: polycystic ovarian syndrome (a fertility problem)
•PG: pregnant
•PIAC: pee in a cup
•POAS: pee on a stick
•RE: reproductive endocrinologist
•SA: semen analysis
•SH: "sweet husband"
•SO: "significant other"
•SYS, SYL : See ya soon! or See ya later!
•TCOYF: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler; a book and website about charting and fertility.
•TMI: "too much information" - There is no such thing when TTC!
•TTA: "trying to avoid"
•TTC: "trying to conceive"
•TTFN: "ta-ta for now"
•TTYL, TTYS: "talk to you later" or "talk to you soon"

Congrats to MSH:) Sending sticky thoughts your way.

Sorry to all those that AF found:mad:

As for me..... we are embarking on our fertile period. However I don't know how productive it is going to be. DH's grandfather died on Tuesday evening so we have all the funeral stuff on the fertile days. We are still waiting to hear about DH's SA. The doctor is on vacation this week so when I called they said they would call next week. I also had to reschedule my HSG for Feb. 8th because the day I scheduled would have been after I already ovulated. One positive though, I found out that after our $200 deductible has been met (which it will with the SA and my HSG) then my insurance covers infertility treatments and such up to $10,000 a year:) With that great news I am hoping 2006 will be a great year!!

CD14 for me today. Bding every other day, until the OPKs start to show something. The last two cycles I've gotten postive OPKs around CD17, so maybe after this weekend!

I do have to admit that I feel much more relaxed this cycle, without the pressure of the holidays looming (and really, really wanting a BFP for Christmas) I feel a lot calmer!

Where to start...

Congrats to Adam's Pi and MSH.

Sorry to hear things are going well sare, glad to hear things are better polkadot.

Mine took another interesting turn today. I didn't hear back from my doctor which means I won't get my test results until Monday but my cycle has stopped, which is odd. For years when AF shows up I get a couple days of spotting then 3 days of medium flow and that's it, nothing to heavy. I usually get the tender boobs and mild cramps. So I started spotting on Monday, spotted Tuesday, spotted VERY lightly yesterday and today - NOTHING. No tenderness, no spotting, its all very strange and really starting to get on my nerves! Hopefully the doctor's call on Monday gives us some idea of what is wrong.

MSH -- Congrats on your BFP!!!!!
polkadot -- thinking positive thoughts for you. Hope your test goes well tomorrow!
lawgirl4 -- I read in the last thread you figured out how to read your cervical position. That must have felt great to have a breakthrough! I've stopped checking b/c i really can't seem to tell the difference.
jodylovesscotty -- sorry about your DH's grandfather. That's good news about your health insurance!
suiej -- glad you're feeling more calm, i hope that does the trick for you this cycle!
cowgirl -- sorry you may miss your fertile time with DH out of town :(
Adam's Pi -- CONGRATS!
TazLuv -- sorry your cycle is wacky, hopefully the dr. can shed some light on things on Monday.

Tons of BFPs lately! I hope you all have happy and healthy 9 months!

Since I updated my chart the other day, it was bugging me so I had to override the coverline, and that made me feel a lot better! I'm 11 DPO right now, but feeling very hopeful. If my temp goes up tomorrow I may test...

Sare, sorry to hear about the old hag. I was really rootin' for you this month.

polkadot, keepin' my fingers crossed for you, girlie!

Don't have much time for SO's because I'm still in St. Louis and have a final assessment for our training that I still need to study for.

Theadmistress, I'm officially waiting to test. Test date is supposed to be the 23rd, but I doubt it'll be that long.

This 2WW hasn't been so bad since I've been away from home, and I didn't even get my CL until 6 DPO. My temps are wacky this month.

My BB's are very, very sore these past two days, like I can't hardly even stand to shower and wash myself down because it hurts so much. I'm not going to stress about it though.

Ugh. I think my PNV's are making me sick. I've had a crampy, gassy feeling since I started them and tonight I have bad diarrhea. Should I stop taking them or will this taper off? I started them about 4-5 days ago.

Congratulations MSH and Adam's Pi!!!!!!

Not much going on in my end of TTC world although I do have a question. Is there any correlation between low temps above the coverline and difficulty with implantation of a fertilized egg? I am dpo4 and my temps don’t seem to be that high above the coverline. I am a little concerned. Thanks for any information anybody might have for me!

Thank you, everyone. I'm still in shock. Like I've said before, it took us 8 cycles (and 4 of those were loooooong) to concieve DS. I really expected it to take several months (I was hoping to be pg by June). I POAS again this morning, and again, it was positive. My temps are waaaaay up. Unbelievable.

My symptoms (more easily identified now that I can confirm pregnancy):
-feeling flushed in the face (this was the reason I tested)
-my bbs are growing (just noticed that one yesterday)
-no cramps, but more of a full feeling where my uterus is

MichelleRenee When do you take your vitamins? I've read that taking them at night, before you go to bed, helps.

Adamspi Congrats!!! H&H 9 months.
TazLuv Sorry about the wacky cycle. My last cycle was a bit like that. Hope the Dr has some ideas.
mayham Hoping your temp goes up.
Michelle Are you taking them with food? I would try taking them with food if not and maybe try a different time of day.
Spencer’s girl & Sabriel thanks for all the baby dust.
Deanna Not to freak you out but I read that temps close to the cover line could be low progesterone but not sure if it true or not. As FF has charts like that that end up pg.

We sure have been having a busy 2006 so far. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I take them after eating around lunchtime every day. Honestly, in my case I don't think the time of day taking them matters because I'm not having symptoms each time I take it. It's more like I am having symptoms from the accumulation of the vitamins in my system. Does that make sense?

I already have a dr's appointment today so when I am there I will mention it. Thanks everyone!

Well, I'm out for the month. AF arrived this morning, after only a 9-day LP. I'm emailing my RE to let him know and to schedule my CD3 bloodwork for next month. I really didn't want to have to go back there for the whole series of pokings and proddings again.

DH brought up IUI this morning (I was already feeling that AF was coming on and was quite depressed about it, and he mentioned it as an option), so I know it's on his mind. I will let him make the decision about whether to go forward with that or try another Clomid-only cycle.

I probably won't be around much today; I just don't have the heart for the FP boards.

Congrats to Adam's Pi & MSH!

I hope you guys all have really good weekends. :)

Congrats Adams Pi and MSH! What a way to start my morning!

Glaringly positive OPK yesterday (CD14), along with the cramps, and a big temp jump today (I ended up throwing out yesterday's temp). So I think yesterday was my O day. Still a bit crampy today, so I'll take another OPK just in case. I'll wait for FF to give me my coverline before I call it!

Sorry about AF, gymwidow.
FF gave me crosshairs right when I thought it should, so that's good. So I'm 3dpo now. My policy is not to test till I'm late, and since I often have 30 day cycles, I'm waiting till the 27th to test. I just hate testing at CD28, getting a BFN and then having AF show up the next day.

MichelleRenee & cowgirl -- thanks for your positive thoughts, but I didn't end up testing b/c my temp went down a bit :( Still above cover, but if i see a decline over the weekend, I know AF will show next week.
MrsJackson05 -- glad your 2ww is going by fast for you. It definitely helps when you're busy to keep your mind off of obsessing!
MichelleRenee -- I had the opposite problems when I was taking PNV's daily, and my dr. did say it's likely because of the build up in my system over time. She recommended I take just the folic acid, as long as I'm eating healthy. At times when I feel like I'm not eating the best, I'll switch PNV and folic acid every other day.
gymwidow -- i'm so sorry about AF, and I totally understand your need to ignore the FP boards for a bit while you process this. That's good your DH is thinking about the next steps and being proactive.
ausi2b -- good luck in your 2ww!
jbemommy -- i know what you mean, i'm on 30 day cycles too, and early on in the ttc process I would end up testing right before AF came.

My temp went down a bit this morning, so no testing for me. I have a feeling if it doesn't go back up tomorrow, AF will be here soon. I've thought about stopping the temping once O is confirmed, but I'm such a data freak and love having complete charts, that I'm not sure I could do that. And I like having complete info to show the dr. blah.

Really weird thing yesterday. I started doing my OPKs, since I expect O this weekend or next week. It came up with a very very dark line in the "Test" window, and then a very faint line in the "Control" window. Now, had I not done these before, I'd assume it was postive, right?

But I know that the control line should come up a LOT darker, and even so, I tested with another brand (just because I had them lying around) and it was negative. Tried another test from the same box later, same thing. What gives? Did I manage to find a bum batch of OPKs at Target? Needless to say, I'm calling their customer support line, maybe they'll send me some free ones.

I'm even more frustrated now, because my chart (http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/10159a) is looking weird (it's been high since about CD7 (It's CD 15)) and now even my OPKs aren't working!

back to waiting to O. Af showed up last night. This is my heaviest, most crampy period since I stopped BCP in October. BD this past cycle was pretty poor so I didn't really think this would be our month. i am going to fix my chart this weekend to show BDing and actually start temping.

ok, i am not part of this group, but i have just been charting for two days now and i am already a worry wart. for two days now i have been showing a temp of 97.4. i am worried that this is not normal bc on the handy dandy chart that comes with the thermometer the temps don't even go that low.

eta - i have just looked at some of your charts and see your temps that low so perhaps i don't have anything to worry about and just need to use a more inclusive chart.

polkadot, hugs to you. I think it's really interesting that your doctor noted that if you weren't charting, you would never have known that you were PG - that it would have just seemed like a regular AF. I remember reading somewhere that these super-early "miscarriages" are actually very, very common, and most women never know either way. I hope that offers you some tiny bit of consolation - to know that it's far more "normal" than one would think.

Still, I'm so sorry and hope that the process passes by quickly. *hugs* again.

So, I'm still waiting to O... I have had fertile-quality CM for almost 2 weeks! I still have watery/EWCM, and my cervix is still high, soft, and very wet, so, I am guessing that O-day is imminent - but I feel that way every day! The waiting - wherever I am in my cycle - is driving me batty!!

Polkadot - you've got my thoughts too hon. Here's hoping for a better next cycle.

----------------------

So I'm not too thrilled with my chart right now. FF just gave me crosshairs, but they seem to think my O date was CD21, when I really think it was more like CD13. My chart was looking all nice until this morning - a good jump up for 7 or so days and then a really high second jump up. Until today when it dropped a good bit. We only dtd on days 6, 11, and 15 so if I o'd on day 13, like I was guessing, then I had a chance of good news this month. O'ing on cd21 just sucks because a) there's no way we bd'd close to that and b) that means that the next cycle is that much farther away. Pisser.

DPO5 here and I am a little nauseous this morning. I also have pain on the left side of my stomach(I have been having it for the past 2 days but today is worse) ...hmmm wondering what it is because I have never felt this before. Of course I am extra aware of what sensations I am having right now. I know it is too soon for implantation but a girl can dream. We have my DH's work holiday party. It is a really big blowout. I will even be able to wear the gown that I wore in my SIL's wedding last summer. It is beautiful. I hope I get rid of the nausea. Off to get some shopping done.

I am definitely having lots of FPS this cycle! I am 8DPO. A few days ago I felt some weird cramps. Then the last few days my stomach area has just felt kind of weird. Plus I had spotting on 6DPO and 7DPO that was much lighter than my "usual" LP spotting. On the early side for implanation, I know, but maybe not totally crazy given my usually short LP?

I am afraid to get my hopes up, but I am nevertheless. I keep telling myself that will just make it worse when AF shows! I am such a pessimist. :)

Polkadot, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your DH. I'm very sorry about what happened.

As for me, 10 DPO today. And finally back home. Very, very tender BB's still, and a little bit of upset stomach and cramping today.

I had a little bit of spotting last night. But I'm not sure if that was caused by the BD'ing that DH and I did last night or not. ( Mind you, we hadn't seen each other for almost a week. ;) ) Does anybody think that that the spotting was caused from the BD'ing, or something else.

FF is now saying that my chart is possibly triphasic on day 28. Never had that before. How often do people have triphasic charts? Does it happen often?

JayJay
01-14-2006, 07:55 PM
Okay, after messing with my chart a bit, I've got a question.

On days 4 and 5 DPO, I had gotten up early due to having earlier meetings those days. When I temped at 6 AM (normal time is 7 AM), my temp was 97.7. When I used the Temp Adjuster, it said it would have been around 97.9 at 7 AM.

When I changed both of the temps to the 97.9, my FF page says:

Possibly Triphasic on Day 28
Possible implantation spotting on Day 30.
Warning: This spotting may be unrelated to implantation. It is just an additional clue.

After further messing with it, my chart does say that when I leave the temps at 97.7. Is there any need to change it?

Opinions, please? :o

Just checking in...
Sounds like good FPS, Deanna, jeant, and MrsJackson! Hope they turn into RPS soon!
Also MrsJackson I'm not sure about adjusting the temps but triphasic is a good thing!!
Well today my CP was really low and my CM sticky so I'm curious to see if my temp goes up tomorrow... I never got true EWCM but it was close yesterday and my CP was really high then. Unfortunately, DH had to work nights last night so we haven't BD'd since Wednesday. I'm not holding my breath this month. (If I even O'd at all.) I do get to go to my brother and SIL's baby shower tomorrow, so getting ready for that. She is having a scheduled c-sec either the 27th or 30th, the Dr will let them know on Wednesday which day it will be. They also have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter. Hopefully one of these days we can get them a cousin!

MrsJackson You're looking good!! I say test in a day or two. The triphasic is a really good sign, as is the spotting. Very cool.

Baby Lust
01-14-2006, 09:36 PM
Mrs, Jackson, I am actually wondering if you didn't O until CD26. The previous days are still pre-O temps... Have you tried changing your tuning to see if FF changes it? You won't get solid CHs of course, because of your +OPKs much earlier, but you might be surprised at what FF says. If your O date doesn't change, I would say the .2 degree difference is not really worth adjusting for, especially if FF says triphasic either way. As far as the spotting goes, it could be implantation, which is usually brownish, or if could be from BDing, which is usually pinkish. I've had both. Anyway, good luck! Disclaimer: This is just my opinion! ;)

MichelleRenee - I hope you feel better soon!

14DPO for me, and I can't really remember if I took my temp this morning. I was so sleepy, but set the alarm to 6am since that's when I take it during the week. I think I took it, but it was also the same temp as yesterday so I guess it's possible I didn't. Drat! This is going to be bugging me all day. I guess tomorrow's temp will tell what's really going on for me this cycle.

Took a HPT yesterday and it was a BFN. It looked as negative as it could have been, I think! The control line was dark, and the - line was light. (I took an equate, so a positive would have been a cross). I'm really not sure either way this cycle, so I'll have to wait and see. AF should be here on Tuesday and so then I'd have to call for the HSG...

I got a BFP around 2:00 yesterday afternoon!

I was getting ready to use an ovulation test, and I thought, just for kicks, to try a pg test since my temps have been so dang high, and FF is telling me that my temps indicate I could have o'ed around CD 5 to CD12. It's CD 17.

Imagine my surprise when two dark lines popped up!

Okay.....when I changed the temps from 4 & 5 DPO to 97.9, and change the tuning/override to FAM, FF changes my O date to January 5th. It also puts me at only 10 DPO.

When I leave the temps from 4&5 DPO, and change the tuning/override to FAM, it moves my O date to CD 26.

I'm really confused right now. I don't know if I should leave the setting to Advanced, or change it to FAM. And I also don't know if I should change my temps, because those temps aren't accurate to the times that I normally wake.

Should I change the temps or leave them? Advanced or Fertility Awareness?

Deanna1018
01-15-2006, 12:02 PM
MrsJackson...Concerning FAM or advanced setting...when i used FF I always kept it at FAM due to me wanting to follow the fertility awareness method. I also heard that the advanced method took previous charting patterns by other FF members into consideration where FAM doesn't. I hope you understand what I meant to say. I guess it is all about your personal choice. Concerning the temps I would just stay consistent with whatever you do decide to do. So if you alter one temp due to taking it at a different time then do it with every temp that isn't taken at the right time. I personally alter all my temps that I don't take at my regular time. I don't know if what I have said has been very helpful.

OS is saying that O'ed on CD 22, but I'm thinking it was later than that (maybe CD 30, in which case we missed the egg). My temps have fallen in the past 2 days, I got a BFN, but no PMS-symptoms at all. Oh well....

Has anyone ever had really, really sore BB's to the point that they throb even when you're sitting still? I've been experiencing that today, and never have. It hurts so badly! :o I've also had some cramping and a little bit of a backache right now. But I'm not too thrilled with that, because that's what I had last month before AF showed.

I decided to use adjusted temps. All the adjusted temps on my chart are open circles so I can remember which ones they were. I left the setting to Advanced, because I really have no idea what to believe. I figured it would be better to have someone else tell me what was going on.

I'm anxious to see what my temp will be in the morning. I just hope I can sleep well so I can get an accurate reading.

Sare, thanks, girl! I'm really sorry about the old hag showing. I really thought that this was your month. I'm really not having a hard time with the tests. FF says the 23rd, and hopefully I can wait that long if AF doesn't show by then. FF says she could be here on Tuesday. We'll see.

Ladies,

I have kind of a strange question for you all. Over the years, I've heard a lot of people say that they don't want to have children after 35. I even heard someone say that if it didn't work out to get pg (in this case with a second) before then, they'd just not do it. Why are people so freaked out by having a kid after turning 35? I'm trying to understand.

Just for the record: I'm 34. And yes, I know about the risk for Down's, etc., but that's about a half a percent (1 in 200) at 35 -- not overwhelming odds.

And to be clear -- I'm certainly not opposed to people ideally wanting to have their kids when they are younger. That part makes sense to me. It's drawing an absolute line that I don't understand. But I'm totally willing to hear people's reasoning -- I'm just very curious.

******************************

girls, I am getting *so* impatient. today is CD22 and still no O. My latest recorded O date was CD 24, but this is driving me nuts! We spent last night at my BIL/SIL's house in Michigan, where our room was *very* cold and I went to bed with wet hair, so I am discarding today's temp (97.3)... So theoretically, I *could* have ovulated today and not seen a temp rise due to the freezing temperature all night. I guess I need to get to bed and see what tomorrow's temperature brings! I never thought I'd say this, but DH is getting a little weary of BDing every night (!!!), but I don't want to skip a night until I know I've ovulated... *sigh*!!!

Not much going on with me. DPO7 here and obsessing over every little twinge and pain. If AF doesn't show up by Saturday I will begin testing. My temps are staying up. First time that I have had three high temps in a row ( see how I am obsessing). Hoping it stays high or even gets higher. I have also been having low back pain and left side abdominal pain on and off all weekend. I was even a little nauseous this morning (It may have been from just being over hungry...the obsession continues). Anyway I am one of the few that has to work today (even worse it is a 10 hour day for me...the medical profession never sleeps). DH is in bed all nice and warm and I sit here writing to you contemplating when I am going to go dry my hair. Hope eveyone has a great day. Will be back later to catch up.

Polkadot:I am so sorry for you loss.

FF Question: On the calender what does it mean when turn green?
I think I will be Oing soon but will be out because DH has been gone for a week and won't be home till tuesday or wednesday.

Good luck to everyone trying to catch that egg.

Congrats, suiej!!! H&H 9 months to you!!!

Polkadot, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. *hugs*

I suspect that I O'd yesterday, because I had a gigantic temp jump between yesterday morning and this morning. Will have to see if my temp stays up over the next few days. One thing different about this cycle is that I've had spotting for the past few days...I know TCOYF says that O can cause a couple of days of spotting, but I've been spotting from Friday to Sunday. Will have to see if it continues today...

Okay I am highly upset about something I just found out re: my insurance.

I work for the Fed government and am covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I figured since I am living and working in MA, MA mandates infertility coverage, and my plan is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MA, IVF is covered.

Guess what? It isn't, or so I have been told, because its a Federal Plan and supposedly exempt from state mandates! they'll pay for the diagnostic tests, but nothing else (no IVF, no IUI, no meds)

I've been trying to find the exact text of the MA law on line. We've been discussing IVF, and I'm hoping we don't need it because it looks like I am ovulating but am wondering what the f*ck I have been paying all this money for insurance for!

Hi ladies. Happy Monday to all. I hope everyone who has the day off today is making the most of it!

Last night was rough for me. We were having dinner with some good friends and they announced that they are pregnant with their 2nd baby. We weren't even sure they would ever have another - our friend was so physically ill throughout her first pregnancy that she often has said she didn't think she could ever go through it again. So, with that and also the fact that their DD is only 18 months old, I was not expecting that news and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I kept it together till we got out of the restaurant and then cried a bit on the way home while DH held my hand and kept reassuring me that our turn will come soon. :(

Anyway, I had my CD4 bloodwork done today (since yesterday was a weekend) and am all set for another cycle. My doctor is upping my dosage of Clomid to 100mg to try and strengthen my O this month. DH and I decided yesterday that we are going to go ahead and do IUI this month. Honestly, I just don't see why we need to wait when it's a very minimally invasive procedure, is covered by my insurance, and hopefully will just serve to increase our chances of getting pg. We're not in a rush, and we've only been really trying for 2 months with the help of the drugs, but why wait, you know? This roller coaster of emotions every month is very taxing, and if we can make it end sooner rather than later, I want off! I'm glad my doc is supportive of it and that DH agreed so readily when I asked him to.

So, I go in next Thursday, CD14, for an u/s to check my follie growth and get my HCG trigger and then on Friday we'll do the IUI. In the meantime, we wait. The fun part. Hmph.

polkadot, I am so sorry! We're cycle buddies this time, so hopefully we'll end up together with true BFPs that stick!

suiej, wow, congrats! H&H 9 months to you!

Michelle Rene- i have been stalking and you are looking good also...toes crossed for you....

as for me i think AF is finally trying to exit...it wasnt as bad as i thought...i had a lot more cramping than i usually do but that is to be expected...so as soon as Af is out the door...let the BDing begin...we are determined to get PG again...and Brian just keeps saying ** we ARE having a baby, we are just still working on the timeline** **swooning smilie inserted here**

It's still early, right? Plus, my alarm didn't go off this AM, so I didn't temp, so I have no idea if it's dropping or not.

If AF hasn't shown, I'll test again Wednesday.

Hey ladies! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Congrats to SuieJ! YAY! Here's to a H&H Nine Months!

As for me, I still think my chart is whacked. FF is saying I o'd cd21, I think it was more likely cd 13, 14 or 15. Partly I think that because the temps between days 15-21 seem too high to be part of the standard pre-ovulatory lower temps. And partly I think the earlier O date is correct is because, before starting the pill and then after DS was born and AF came back but before I went back on the pill my cycle was always 28 or 29 days max. So if that stays the same (and I know it doesn't have to, this last time on the pill could have screwed up something) then O'ing on cd 14 or 15 only makes sense. Whatever.

The only reason this makes a difference is that there's a possibility (albeit slim) that we could have some success if I o'd on one of the earlier dates. Just in case, I POAS this morning. The control line came right up, nice and bright vibrant pink. I could also sort of see a second line, but it wasn't pink and strong - in fact, it was gray and looked more like a shadow, or like I could tell where the die underneath was located. Like if you get a white fabric wet and then you can sort of see the color or shape below it. Does that make sense? It certainly didn't look like a positive.

Well, we'll see what my temp does over the next few days. I do have two more tests in the house, so maybe I'll test tomorrow or Wednesday if my temp stays high.

Well I have come to the conclusion that if I am not pregnant this cycle then my body is officially falling apart. I have tender breasts(pretty normal), back pain all day long (I never have back pain), left sided abdominal pain and abdominal cramping (this started tonight). Needless to say it have not been a good day. I am dpo7 and very very anxious to test but I am holding off till Saturday. I hope the pain/cramping improves soon. Only time will tell.

Well, I decided that AF never really did arrive, it was just two days of heavy spotting *TMI ALERT* with no real red blood, followed by a week of light spotting. I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that. I have an appointment for next Monday with a nurse practictioner at my Dr.'s office. I will keep you ladies updated.

I am now at dpo8. The back pain is gone as well as the abdominal cramping. For some reason I am now thinking that I am out for the count this cycle...maybe it is just me not wanting to get too excited and then getting a bfn.

Anyway the abdominal cramping and back pain that I had all day were only slightly relieved by lying in the recliner last night. It wasn't until I got into bed and was lying completely flat that the pains I had been experiencing were entirely gone. My temp was still elevated this morning (98.4) and I still have tender breasts but no back pain, nausea or abdominal cramping...hence the reason why I think AF may be coming soon.

Ovulation this cycle was very painful which is usually not the case. My pre-o temps were pretty even which is also usually not the case which may account for the symptoms I experienced yesterday. Just a good old fashion out of the ordinary cycle.

Anyway only time will tell (this now seems to be my mantra). Have a good day ladies. Be back later to catch up.

Hi Everyone! Long time no see! :)

threadmistresses, could you please take me off of "Taking a Charting Break/Temporarily TTA"

We are actively ttc again and are on 8 dpo and waiting to test. I'm trying not to obsess too much about it right now. My break was well worth while though and i have so far lost just over 30 lbs and still counting. (i have to lose another 40 more to be at a normal height/weight.

I am surprisingly calm about the whole thing, right now at least. I'm not very confident this cycle since it's our first cycle ttc since last summer/early fall. I'm trying not to make everything a symptom. I have sore bb's but checked a chart from way back when and i started with sore bb's really early that cycle. I have 2 "symptoms" that i don't recall having before but could just have been i wasn't paying attention. 1 is gassy. I burp 1000 times a day! The other is cramping. Last night i had cramping like i get right before af. It's too early for af though. I am chalking it up to gas :D Hopefully we get a BFP in the next 6 months! That would make me happy. The let downs are draining and stressful! So back to the grind. Someone smack me if i start to obsess too much! TIA. lol.

dh and i are both taking ttc a little more seriously this time and have made some life changes. I found out dh was drinking up to 6 cups of coffee a day and 2 mountain dews. I was like... "honey, your sperm are drunk and they don't know which way to go! They are probably just running into each other and swimming backwards!" So he's cut it down to 3 cups of coffee a day and maybe a soda. My diet is 100% better because of my diet and i've stopped taking my medications (allergy and psoriasis) regularly. Now i only take them when i am desperate and i have switched to caffeine free soda of which i only have 1 maybe 2 a day. I get at least 10-12 glasses of water in a day now too. Hopefully those few changes make the difference. I am going to order pre-seed for our next cycle but i don't want to jinx it so i am waiting to order until we get a bfn. ;)

Deanna1018- Looks like we are right smack dab at the same place. When are you going to test? I think i'm going to test on 10 dpo and then 12 (if i have to ;) )

hi everybody :)

quartercentury - hope you're having a great trip! our trip to india was fantastic - and after all that discussion, we wound up not taking the anti-malarials altogether... we felt it was okay to risk it. hope you're staying healthy and have fun in China!! ;)

Rachel - I hear you on the frustration. I hope that your Dr's appt brings you some reassurance!

****************************

girls, I need a little reassuring/cheering up. I am on CD 24 and still no O - though I had a slight temp increase today that could be promising, as long as it continues to rise. I totally broke down crying this morning after I took my temperature and didn't see a spike - as you can all see from my chart, DH and I have been BDing every night and I just feel like it's all a waste if I don't ovulate. DH was great and supportive, and made the point of noting that I seem very "hormonal" to him (I also had a bit of a sad fit yesterday), and I agree with his assessment - so maybe I am on the verge of O-ing. It's so hard to stay positive, though!

I'm also looking at my past charts and noticing that my O-dates keep on getting later and later in my cycles (though I have incomplete data from last cycle). that, and the fact that I have shorter LPs, really disturbs me. I've started taking Red Raspberry Leaf and Vitex (Chasteberry) supplements, which are both supposed to help with ovulation and LP lengthening - but I just feel *so* discouraged.

I made a Dr's appt for February 9th so that I can show her my charts and see if she recommends anything (of course I am secretly hoping that by 2/9 I will have ovulated and would actually be PG, but I know that's delusional! but a girl can dream, no? :) )

**delurking**

Lawgirl Try not to get too discouraged (I know this is not easy to do) - but looking at your charts, you have O'd in the past at CD24 and as late as CD36 - so hang in there. BD every other day for a couple days, it might help you not feel so frustrated. I know it's tough - Heck, I haven't o'd on my own since April - so trust me... every cycle when you have great CM and then no O is really hard to look at month after month. I went to the DRs and found out that I have a higher than normal FSH number - which could be contributing to my lack of O.... So if you do "have" to go to the dr's in Feb - bring your charts and tell him/her your concerns about your late O date. They may be able to do some blood work and tell you what's going on...
Hugs though - I know how tough it is to be in limbo :)

Ellidew Congrats for being "back in the game" - That is great news on your weight loss & your hubby trying to cut back his coffee intake. I'm hoping you get a BFP soon!

Gymwidow Good luck w/ the Clomid! Hope you get your BFP this month.

I have my CD 3 bloodwork to do tomorrow - which will double check my previous FSH numbers and to do some other testing. I'll also be doing the Clomid Challenge on CD5-9. Hoping this month gives us enough info to make a plan on what to do next!

Currently on CD6, and I tend to O a bit on the late side (CD16-20) so it may be a little while before anything interesting happens. lawgirl Sorry to hear about the late O! That must be really frustrating! I agree with the every other day advice. And just FYI: I read that especially in the first cycle you take it, Vitex can cause you to O late. This happened to me: my first cycle on it I O'ed more than a week late for no apparent reason (for once, I wasn't stressed!) I actually stopped taking it because I thought it was messing with my cycles too much.

bunnybeth Best of luck to you. I am sad to hear your story. You are a very strong woman.

Hi ladies. We had our first RE appointment yesterday. We met with the nurse practicioner and went over all the tests that we'll be doing. As I suspected, I missed the CD3 bloodwork this cycle. But the good news is that they got me in for the HSG today at 1:30PM so that the bloodwork will be the last test, and we're on target to have a plan for next cycle.

Those that have had HSG's, what should I expect? Is it really painful? I'm a nervous wreck and I didn't sleep a whole lot last night. Just waiting and hoping to get it over with as soon as possible. I'm supposed to come back here to work, so hopefully I won't be feeling too terrible.

Hi ladies,

Some nice lookin' charts out there.

bunnybeth - Here's hoping for a short stay. :)

As for me, no temp today because DH got up at 3:45 to use the bathroom. I temped because I thought it was later ... my temp was 96.8 ... holy lowness. Then, DS got up at 5 or something crying, and I went upstairs to soothe him. Came back down and feel asleep, temped again at 6 when I woke up, and my temp was 97.7. So, because my sleep was so screwy last night, I'm not recording anything today. Whew, long story ... I haven't ovulated yet, anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Getting ready for a BDfest. Sort of hard to do when DH and I are both so tired at night. After DS goes to bed, we both usually fall asleep on the couch.

Welcome bunnybeth! Like everyone else has already said, here's hoping that your stay is short.

Well, my temp dipped a little this morning but is still higher than my pre-o temps. I'm trying to decide if I should test tomorrow. If I o'd where I think I did (day 13, 14, or 15) either AF should arrive or I should get a positive (not great BD timing, but possible). If I o'd when FF thinks I did, around cd21, then it would just be a total waste of a test. We'll see. I'm not having any noticeable FPS, but who knows. The only symptoms I remember from early on before were incredible naseau and car sickness. Frankly, I'm hoping to avoid those this time around so I'm not too upset to not be feeling them regardless of what that might mean.

I guess I'll just see what my temp does tomorrow.

I'm thinking good thoughts for all of you!

:(

Big temp drop today. And I'm crampy.

Here's what happened this cycle: DH and I realized how much we want a baby. I think at the beginning, we were a little nervous - like it would be okay if it didn't happen right away because we could use some extra time to prepare. Well, we're prepared! We're ready!

So next month we're going to work extra hard at TTC. ;)

lawgirl - I o'd on CD25 - I know what you mean about waiting to O. It's so frustrating. I'm bummed about having to play the waiting game again now. I've been taking vitex, so I'm hoping that my O date will either start coming earlier, or at least come around the same time.

I know exactly how you ladies feel about waiting to O and waiting so long. My last two o dates weren't until CD 28 and CD 23 the last two cycles. It feels like so much longer to me.

My AF this month was super short again- does anyone know if that is an indicator of anything different? Last month was pretty short and heavy and this month really short and pretty light comparatively.

Gee, only 20 more days til O

Polkadot …your DH is awesome!

Ellidew…I guess we are at the exact same place. I am hoping to have enough will power not to test until dpo12. My lp’s are typically 12 days. So if AF hasn’t shown up by then out comes the hpt’s. Congrats on your weight loss. I recently lost 15 lbs. I definitely noticed how much better my body functioned after the weight loss.

MrsJackson..your temp didn’t drop a lot from what I can see. You are still in the game! Try to stay positive.

Sare79…I usually find that with each cycle I alternate from a heavy AF to light AF. If I am not pregnant then I am in for a doosey (spelling ?) of a AF this cycle…yipeee…NOT!!!

Mimieliza…here’s to a lot of BD’ing!!!!! Have fun!!

Octoberkate…when it comes to POAS I am usually the first to do it…I am an addict but I am trying to wait till dpo12 to see if AF shows up. Because there is some confusion on when your o date was I would test tomorrow just to see. If it is bfn then hold off on testing until later in your cycle. I know …easier said then done.

Jenzen01…have fun with your BD fest!!!!!

JJsanner….That is great about getting in right away for the HSG. I have never had one so I am no help there but good luck.

Jeant…that is great news about the rise in temp. It’s looking good. Keeping my fingers crossed for a bfp for you and DH.

Not much going on here. A little under the weather today. I had a little nausea this morning ..not as much as yesterday. A little bit of back pain throughout the day...again not as much as yesterday. I did have the abdominal cramping a little more often today though. It is just a wait and see game.

welcome, bunnybeth! so sorry to hear about your loss - I hope that the future brings nothing but happiness on the TTC front. :)

jeant - very interesting about your Vitex experience. Upon further research, I think I am going to try 50-100mg of vitamin B-6 - I've read a lot of positive things about it lengthening the LP. And interestingly, I had been taking "Fertility Blend" at the end of last year - I wonder if the Vitex in that had something to do with delaying ovulation...I'll hold off on the Vitex for now.

jjsanner - hope the HSG went well!

jenzen - I hate being woken up when I need to temp! that can be so frustrating. have fun with the BD fest!! :)

octoberkate - fingers crossed for a temp rise tomorrow... I am hoping for one myself as well!

mimieliza - glad you can empathize. if you read my response to jeant, you'll see I am going to hold off on the Vitex for now - I'm going with vitamin B6 to lengthen the LP instead.

sare79 - these late O-dates are really tough. I am definitely going to ask my doctor about it when I see her in february. hang in there!

deanna1018 - hang in there! the waiting is crazy, no?

*************************

so this is interesting... I did an OPK tonight and my line was very faint. towards the end of last week I had a dark line on my OPKs - though never darker than the reference line. So I am wondering if maybe I have in fact ovulated, and my temps have been screwy. my sunday morning temp was discarded as we slept in a freezing cold room and I woke up several times in the night (never had more than 2 hrs consecutive) and yesterday's temp was also iffy as I woke up, dozed for about an hour, and then temped. The majority of my temps this month were taken at weird times, with bad sleeping patterns due to post-India-trip jet lag - so in reality, I am not sure which temps were actually reliable. So I am feeling a bit more positive today. If I have a higher temp tomorrow I will feel much better.... in addition, my cervix was noticeably wetter, softer, and higher towards the end of last week than it was today - and while my CM is in the wet/creamy category, it is definitely less wet than last week. interesting!

lawgirl Yep, Fertility Blend is what I was on too (vitex is one of the ingredients). Kinda messed things up -- weird, since it was supposed to help.

I have also tried B6, which didn't work for me -- no change in my LP. But I think it's worked for other women. I tried natural progesterone cream too, which also had no effect.

My doc said that there isn't agreement about short LPs -- a lot of docs think that as long as it's over 9 or 10 days, there's no problem. And I've noticed that a lot of women on these boards with short LPs end up pg. before long.

jeant
01-17-2006, 06:37 PM
lawgirl Question for you -- have you ever asked a doc about your LP spotting, or found any good info other places? I have the same thing (spotting for several days before AF comes), and I don't know what causes it. I asked a OB GYN nurse once, but she totally blew me off (long story I posted on about a month ago; suffice to say I will never go to her again!). I have also had no luck finding anything about it in books, online, etc. I really wish I knew what caused it and what can be done about it.

jjsanner How did the HSG go?

Threadmistress you can move me to I think I O'ed. FF is calling my O at day 19, but I think it might have been earlier..

jeant - I will ask my dr about the pre-AF spotting when I have my appt in february. here's my guess, though - I think it's probably due to low progesterone levels. I would guess that the body is producing progesterone, but not enough to keep the uterine lining sustained, so the drop in progesterone causes spotting (but not full-on AF, since the levels are probably high enough to prevent AF, but low enough to start the lining to begin to shed. obviously, I am not a doctor and I know very little about all this, but it's my hunch!

Sare79, I have no idea about your AF. I have tried researching that since mine sometimes varies in length and how heavy it is. My doctor told me that I just should be happy when it is short and light and only be concerned if it lasts more than 8 days.

Deanna1018, I'm hoping those are all good signs for you. Who knew we'd one day wish to feel crappy?

lawgirl4, I think I've read that an OPK can look almost positive, or even BE positive and you still don't O until you have a temp rise. I think this is because your body can gear up to O, releasing the hormones that make an OPK + and then not O after all, due to stress or whatever. A trip to India sounds like it could be stressful. I'd keep BDing until you get that shift!

polkadot, I hope this is going to be your cycle! I'm glad everyone has been supportive for you.

jeant, I'm sorry you've been having LP troubles. Hang in there!

Bellefior, I bought the Target brand ones. There were 7 in the box for $12.99. (I think) I only ended up using 3 of them though, so they will last more than one cycle. Some people buy a bunch online really cheap, but I don't knwo where. Congrats on Oing!

I am doing OK today. I am 10dpo and super, super anxious. Anyone who reads my journals knows that I am kinda flooded with FPS right now. My boobs are pretty swollen (which is normal for me, although never this big) and really, really sore. Usually my nipples get very tender and sometimes the muscles around my boobs, but this month they are sore, sore, sore. I've been eating a ton and having cravings for specific things, and then gagging after a few bites. That could just be because of my acid reflux, but I haven't had any other AR symptoms. I'm also very tired today, but I would be lying if I said that was new for me. It is pretty normal for me to take a mid-day nap so I don't really consider that an FPS.

My chart is looking good. Everyone seems to be in agreement that tomorrow's temp is going t
